Rock star Derek St. Holmes with some of the kids at Fazio's Frets and Friends in St. Louis for the first weekend of the Ready-Set-ROCK! Tour.
Camp Jam and NAMM's Ready-Set-ROCK! Tour just wrapped up its first successful weekend and crowned the first Guitar Hero III and Rock Solo contest winners of the tour. We got the word from B&G Music and Fazio's Frets and Friends music store in St. Louis that those places was packed out with kids wanting to take part and jam with a real rock star.
The Rock Solo contest at Fazio's was taken down by Mason Williams, who absolutely tore it up on the guitar. He won a week at Camp Jam 2008 in St. Louis this summer. Check out this video of his performance:
The Guitar Hero portion of the tour stop at Fazios was won by Tim Wilhelm, who gets a $100 gift certificate to Fazio's for the accomplishment.
The Guitar Hero contest at B&G Music pulled in 19 kids battling for a chance to play up against rock star Derek St. Holmes. In the end, it was James Louvier who beat out everyone else to take on Derek and win a $100 gift certificate to Fazios. Here's a pic of the triumphant victor:
The Rock Solo contest at B&G Music was won by Colin Lawrie, who also got a week at Camp Jam 2008 rock music camp in St. Louis.
After the jump are a couple more pics from the stop at B&G Music in St. Louis:

Music often makes for odd bedfellows, like Jack White and Loretta Lynn or Lisa Marie Presley and Michael Jackson (shudder), and it looks like release dates are no exception. Today, we find Weezer front man Rivers Cuomo and his solo effort in amongst some hip-hop giants.
Not sure what it is about Christmas that brings out the hip-hop albums, but there you have it.Maybe for next year they can arrange a Rivers Cuomo rap album....weeee.
Anyway, here are today's new releases:
Mary J. Blige Chingy Rivers Cuomo Jaheim G-Unit Lupe Fiasco |
Growing Pains Hate It or Love It Alone--the Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo The Making Of A Man Shoot To Kill The Cool |
Suggestion: get the Rivers Cuomo album, that is all.
We've mentioned the band Care Bears on Fire before, but just to remind you they are three kids who started playing together in fourth grade and have since become something of a phenomenon. They have been featured in USA Today, SPIN Magazine and Vanity Fair, along with countless other print and online publications. They even found themselves in Billboard's Top Ten Critic's Choice list. They have become the defacto "It" band of the kidcore scene.
Recently, Sophie was filmed by Converse playing their hit song "Everybody Else" acoustically for a commercial. Check it out up top and make sure to check out their MySpace page. These kids are going to be huge, or maybe they already are. The original video for the song is below:

The Gibson Robot Guitar. No, it doesn't unfoldand help you save the world from the Decepticons, but it will help your frustration level when your guitar slowly goes out of tune while playing it. Why? Because the thing freakin' tunes itself.
That's right. The. Guitar. Tunes. Itself.
Don't believe us? Watch the video titled "Instructions" here. And, while you're there, why not take a look at the amusing video ads for the guitar and then take their challenge to "do better" and come up with one yourself and submit it on the site.
Seriously, what's next? A guitar that plays itself? Are musicians becoming obsolete?

There's actually quite a few recommendations that we can make for you today, even though the release of a new Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys album makes us cringe and feel like we're back in 1999. Avenged Sevenfold (known to the cool kids as A7X) and Saves The Day should make for good purchases, although probably very different so take a listen first before purchase. You can't go wrong with Duran Duran and then along with ex-Talking Head David Byrne are bringing back the 80's this week.

The six members of the Camp Jam Allstars pulled off this summer what most bands twice their age would have a hard time doing. Never having played together as a group, these talented teens from towns across America got together for the first time in Atlanta this July and in a matter of days united as a band to learn, rehearse and record the song “Money In a Card.”
When “Money in a Card” is released this November exclusively online, a portion of the proceeds from each download sale will go to Little Kids Rock, a program that provides free instruments and instruction for public school students.
CampJam.com is currently having some minor technical issues with our server, so the site is down for the moment. Should be back up ASAP, so don't panic. We know, we miss you too.
