In this week's episode my brother (Gavin) and I (Noah) reach the end of the line, the last film in Carpenter's Filmography (for now) 2010's The Ward. In this week's episode my brother (Gavin) and I (Noah) give you a double dose of Carpenter as we discuss both of his episodes of Showtime's (short-lived) Masters of Horror, Cigarette Burns and Pro-Life. We both were fairly familiar with Cigarette Burns but neither of us had seen Pro-Life so this marks yet another blindspot in the filmography for both of us. Ultimately we came away feeling like there just wasn't much meat on the bones of either story (forgive the terrible pun) However, we do find time at the top to pay tribute to yet another fallen Horror Icon and Carpenter contemporary, the late great Tobe Hooper, RIP.

In this week's episode my brother (Gavin) and I (Noah) discuss another Carpenter "Remake" 1995's Village of the Damned. While the cast is stacked with interesting actors and the set-up is definitely there, this one still ends up feeling a bit half baked / incomplete. Perhaps that has to do with some of the studio interference and edits the film suffered. Regardless, we still have a fun time running through this one (my first proper, unedited viewing) and we have a particularly fun time with our Remake / Recast discussion, #wingsofthedamned.

In this week's episode my brother (Gavin) and I (Noah) discuss Carpenter's 1993 failed Showtime Pilot turned TV-Movie, Body Bags. It gives us not one but two vastly different segments from Carpenter (The 3rd segment "The Eye" is directed by horror icon in his own right, Tobe Hooper) and also introduces Carpenter "the actor" as the would-be crypt keeper, The Coroner*. Revisiting Body Bags, we both come away still having a blast with it; and it's certainly a nice palate cleanser after last week's Memoirs episode. This one's definitely a "for fans" kind of project and admittedly we grant it more than a little slack for what it could have been, rather than what it ultimately is. We briefly run through each segment and also spend a good bit of time ruminating on what a modern Carpenter Anthology Series could look like. Hopefully we'll know more soon as news of his recent deal with SyFy develops.

In this week's episode my brother (Gavin) and I (Noah) try to give a fair shake to the much maligned 1992 Chevy Chase vehicle (vanity project, jerk-off session) Memoirs of an Invisible Man. Regular listeners will know this one has been a longtime coming, and that it's one of the last of our mutual blindspots in Carpenter's filmography. After finally catching up with it we can firmly say that Carpenter's legacy remains firmly intact. The same can not be said for the film's lead, apologies to Chevy Chase (but not really).

In this week's episode my brother (Gavin) and I (Noah) get around to discussing another one of our all-time favorite Carpenter films, 1988's They Live. In this week's episode my brother (Gavin) and I (Noah) tackle one of the most original and polarizing films of Carpenter's career, 1987's Prince of Darkness. We try to boil down the plot but get a little lost along the way; ultimately we come away thinking this might be the most underrated Carpenter film we've covered so far. I would say we end with our "usual" Remake / Recast Debate; but honestly (Spoiler Alert) we somehow just end up demanding a Remake of Prince of Darkness made solely using the cast of Parks and Recreation (#parksofdarkness)*

In this week's episode my brother (Gavin) and I (Noah) finally get the chance to discuss, the it could only happen in the 80's-genre bending-cult classic-masterpiece, 1986's Big Trouble in Little China. Full disclosure, this one is very much a love-fest. We've both adored Big Trouble since childhood and that simply has not changed, so this is mostly an excuse to revisit some of our favorite scenes/moments, discuss where the film sits contextually in Carpenter's career, and of course our usual Recast/Remake debate.

In this week's episode, my brother (Gavin) and I (Noah) get around to some blind-spotting with Carpenter's 1984 genre-bending-sci-fi-action-adventure-drama-romance-road-movie Starman. We were absolutely floored by this shade of Carpenter which simultaneously feels like a huge departure and a film he was born to make, Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen's performances are off the charts, and we're totally kicking ourselves for not seeing this gem of his filmography till now. Better late than never. We get more plot heavy in this episode, given it's our first viewing, go in-depth discussing those amazing performances, and of course wrap things up with our usual Recast / Remake Debate.

Halloween is such an important and integral part of Carpenter's filmography we simply couldn't boil it down to one episode. Our first episode features my brother (Gavin) and I (Noah) jumping into an admittedly brief discussion of Dark Star (more to come in future bonus episodes) before launching into a more in-depth chat about one of our shared favorites, Assault On Precinct 13. We wrap things up in typical Carpenter Revisited fashion, sharing our suggestions for future remakes/recasting and giving our individual star ratings for each film.

Carpenter Revisited features my brother (Gavin) and I (Noah) revisiting the filmography of our shared favorite childhood director; the man, the myth, the Master of Horror himself, John Carpenter. Each week we'll be taking you through his career, in chronological order, diving into our favorite scenes, performances, original scores, etc. We'll cover all 23 film credits (including his TV movies and Masters of Horror episodes) and we'll also have a few BONUS episodes devoted to specific Top 5s (Favorite Protagonists, Themes, Russell / Carpenter Collaborations, etc.) We hope you'll join us on our journey of revisiting and reevaluating a man that fundamentally shaped our view of cinema and who, despite his many hardcore fans, has never, in our eyes, gotten the true recognition he deserves as one of the greatest directors in the history of film.
