Happy birthday to Prince George, he turns 13 years old today. The start of his teenage years! George’s parents released a birthday portrait today on their official social media. Since the 2024 Mother’s Day photo fiasco, the palace rarely allows Kate to release her own (highly edited) photos of her kids, so they brought in Matt Porteous for this portrait. Reportedly, it was taken in June, “just after Trooping the Colour.”

George will start at Eton in a few months, which will absolutely be a huge new experience for him. Prince William admitted that George had already begun boarding at Lambrook, so at least George will be somewhat prepared for the boarding aspect of Eton. But this is his first time at an all-boys school and Eton’s environment is reportedly like none other. Like… I’ve always understood why the Princess of Wales was so hesitant about sending George to Eton, honestly. And I still think it’s interesting that William got his way, and that George will now be distanced from the Middleton side of the family.

The Princess of Wales has been MIA since the Wimbledon men’s final, and I doubt we’ll see her in public until she and Prince William drop off Prince George at Eton. Maybe we’ll see her in a car in Scotland, but we’re probably pushing it. My point is that there’s a real dearth of royal gossip about William and Kate specifically right now, which probably explains why People Magazine decided to give us some new quotes from an appearance Kate made in June. On June 4th, Kate visited The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester, and she met with cancer patients and the oncology team. It turns out that Kate also revealed that she had difficulty reading while she was receiving treatment in 2024.

Kate Middleton turned to her creative side to help cope with cancer treatment. During a visit to the Christie cancer care hospital last month, the Princess of Wales, 44, spoke with some of the patients about her own experience with chemotherapy, revealing how the treatment left her struggling to focus.

“I don’t know about you, but I didn’t have the ability to read or really focus on anything,” she recalled, as seen in a video shared on social media.

“[Coloring] was my way of exploring interesting things and being able to do something that did not require an end product, or an end finished piece,” she added. “[It was] just a way of playing and losing yourself.”

Cognitive dysfunction, trouble focusing or clouded thinking during chemotherapy treatments is common among many cancer patients. Commonly referred to as “chemo fog” or “chemo brain,” the Mayo Clinic says that “experts don’t fully know the causes of these concentration and memory changes” and that it’s likely caused by a combination of factors, such as chemicals from both treatment and the cancer itself, stress, pain, sleep issues and more.

Prince William also revealed in 2016 that his wife was a fan of adult coloring books when he presented illustrator Johanna Basford with the OBE for her services to art and entrepreneurship.

“Prince William actually said that his wife likes to color in Secret Garden, which was really sweet,” Basford told reporters. The following year, a Kate-themed coloring book was even available to purchase at Kensington Palace.

This is just a reminder that I don’t have a particularly good excuse for why I don’t read all of the books I buy for myself. I read the book blurb and think “oh, that will be a good weekend read” and then I just…never read it. I’ve still got Yesteryear sitting beside my bed, completely unopened. I started the latest John Grisham book and I lost interest in it in, like, 50 pages? My excuse could possibly be perimenopausal brain fog. And I honestly think that might be a factor for Kate as well, though she would be loath to speak about her blessed hormones. In general, though, it feels like neither Kate nor William are big on reading. They don’t read for fun, they don’t have book clubs, they are not intellectually curious, they don’t read briefing memos or anything for work. It’s been that way for years now, even before Kate’s 2024 treatments.

“Grandma hobbies reconnect us to ourselves,” said Cal Newport, a professor of computer science at Georgetown University who writes about technology, focus and productivity. “These activities are hard, in that they require time and concentration to master. But they also offer clear and fulfilling rewards.”

Mari Sanborn, the communications coordinator for the Folk School Alliance, a nonprofit that supports folk education across the United States and Canada, said learning handicrafts offers a way to reclaim a sense of community as well as traditional skills.

“It’s a way of holding onto things that might one day be lost,” she said.

The folk school movement emerged in Denmark in the 1840s, when educator Nikolaj Frederik Severin Grundtvig championed learning rooted in lived experience, rather than rote study. He envisioned “schools for life” that would strengthen rural societies through craftsmanship and lifelong learning. The model spread through Scandinavia, and then to the United States in 1878. Today, more than 100 folk schools operate across the country.

…Susan Luckman, a professor of culture and creative industries at Adelaide University in South Australia and the author of “Craft and the Creative Economy,” said that analog pastimes give “a little bit of self-empowerment back in a world that can often feel overwhelming.”

“At a very basic level, I think people are looking for something to do recreationally that doesn’t involve a screen,” she added.

Grandma hobbies are all over the internet. On Instagram and TikTok, users have embraced “WIP Wednesday” (short for “work in progress”), a weekly ritual of sharing updates on projects like knitting and needlepoint. Pinterest searches for beginner sewing projects have quadrupled over the past year, driven largely by users under 34. Several of Green Door’s Instagram reels — storybook-like scenes of barn dances, plein-air painting and maple syrup tapping — have amassed tens of thousands of likes.

…After a brief sewing machine demonstration by Cody Cook-Parrott, the class instructor, students sifted through bins of fabric and fanned out across the property. Some, including Claire Erwin, 30, set up their machines at picnic tables outside. Ms. Erwin was the first student to enroll in Green Door’s inaugural class: wooden spoon carving. …Anne Kirketerp, a Danish psychologist and longtime folk school instructor who wrote a book called “Craft Psychology,” calls this phenomenon “meaningful self-forgetfulness.”

“When we create something that requires full attention, the part of our brain called ‘default mode network’ is diminished,” Dr. Kirketerp said. “The constant inner noise or negative ruminating thoughts are absent.”

She added, “That is what we need desperately.”

Among a roster of admittedly delightful crafts like Carve and Print: Block Printed Tea Towels, Beginner Sock Knitting (which can later be followed up with Whimsical Holiday Socks), and Large Willow Herb Tray/Irish Skib Weaving, to name but a few.

In all sincerity, it makes me giddy that the youngins are finding joy in detailed, handmade artistic pursuits. Hobbies that require full concentration — but softly, joyfully — are so important. In my life, it’s been watercoloring, which yes, Green Door does have a class in for botanicals. Maybe I’ll make my way to Michigan this year; brush up on my painting, and see for myself what that damn spoon is all about.

Robert Jobson is a longtime royal biographer/commentator, more closely aligned with King Charles and Camilla. I wouldn’t call him an unofficial mouthpiece for Charles and Camilla, but I do get the feeling that the bulk of his briefings come from their side of the street. So it’s interesting to see Jobson out and about right now, huffing and puffing about Charles’ relationship with Prince Harry. The Sussex family met with Charles and Camilla on July 10th, with Charles’ office controlling the messaging around the visit. That’s Charles’ big precondition for any meeting with Harry – Buckingham Palace must control what’s said (and not said) about the meeting. Last year, BP was caught leaking about Harry’s solo visit with his father, and Harry called them out publicly. My point? I think someone (Camilla) wants Jobson out here, saying all of this crap. Jobson made sure to explain why Camilla was invited to the Highgrove Summit:

King Charles made sure to have a “witness” at his July 10 reunion with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Page Six is told. When Charles met with Harry, Markle and their kids at his country estate, Highgrove House, Queen Camilla was right by his side.

“The queen was there for a reason,” royal writer Robert Jobson told us: “To make sure that everything was witnessed.”

Jobson told us this week that no one apart from those present will ever know what really went down at Highgrove. “The only people who know were inside the room,” he said.

Prince Harry has found a new way forward—and it’s through his father. The exiled prince is inching closer to Buckingham Palace thanks to the generosity of King Charles, the royal biographer Robert Jobson has revealed on The Royalist podcast.

“I think that he’s been blinded by a father’s love of the son,” Jobson, 60, told Royalist host Tom Sykes. “I think he’s impacted by the fact that he’s living with cancer, without doubt. And that the emotion is there to see his grandchildren.”

“I think at this moment, I think that the king has got to wise up,” Jobson said. “Now, because he needs money, and because he needs brand and because he needs exposure, he’s sucking up to his father again,” he went on, slamming it as a “very dangerous situation.”

He added, “His father has to realize he’s not just Pa, he’s not just grandpa, he is the king. And he is there as a guardian and also a steward to the crown for his other son, Prince William, who is the heir to the throne.”

“His slow creep of allowing back Harry back into the fold is not what the public in this country want,” Jobson said. “They feel Harry has trashed the monarchy…..cashed in on the monarchy.”

Still, the biographer, who was once dubbed the “godfather of royal reporting” by the Wall Street Journal, recalled that the king once said he does not pay attention to polls, preferring instead to “play the long game.”

“But look at the, look at the long game as well as the polls sometimes, your majesty,” he added.

Elon Musk has been hyper-fixated on Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey for months. Musk and various alt-right commentators have tried to make their racist tantrums about Greek mythology into the latest culture war. No one cares – The Odyssey is already a huge hit and awards-watchers are predicting tons of Oscar nominations. Nolan has handled the situation correctly – he didn’t ignore Musk’s tantrums, but he just shrugged it off with what boiled down to “everyone’s got an opinion, and some opinions are dumb as hell” (I’m paraphrasing). Well, Musk’s panties are still in a twist about it. So much so that Musk will make a “full-length” version of The Odyssey himself. Using his AI bot, Grok.

And so Elon Musk‘s anti-Odyssey campaign continues: The X owner and recently-anointed trillionaire has vowed that his AI social media bot, Grok, will make “a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer” before the end of the year.

His post on Wednesday was accompanied by a three-minute AI-generated short that a follower had made using Grok Imagine.

It comes as the South African businessman continues to rile up his supporters in a real culture war over Christopher Nolan‘s box office behemoth. His commentary on the film dates to January, when rumors of Lupita Nyong’o’s casting as Helen of Troy first began circulating. He has criticized Nolan and Hollywood for their “woke” agenda, despite wide acknowledgement from actual historians that Homer’s work is, of course, a piece of fiction.

One of the funniest parts about the past six-and-half years of Sussexiting is how thoroughly it broke royalists’ brains. After all this time, they cannot entertain one single theory that Prince Harry and Meghan are perfectly happy in California, and they have absolutely zero desire to live under the Windsors’ thumb in any way. There’s just a flat refusal to acknowledge that as a possibility, if not the most likely scenario. Hilariously, they always cast Prince Harry as “at his wit’s end” with all of his freedom, money and self-determination. Six-plus years of freedom, and Harry is simply desperate to be back under the Windsors’ control, being told what to wear and how to work and how he needs to divorce his American wife. Well, Rob Shuter’s sources claim that Harry’s latest thing is begging his father to allow him to move to Australia.

Prince Harry may have found what he believes is the perfect path back into royal life—but palace insiders say it’s little more than wishful thinking.

Sources tell Naughty But Nice the Duke of Sussex has privately floated the idea of serving the Crown in an overseas role, with Australia emerging as his dream destination.

“Meghan has no interest in moving back to Britain,” one insider tells Naughty But Nice. “Harry believes an overseas role, particularly in Australia, would allow them to serve the King while keeping the life he has built with Meghan and the children.”

The idea isn’t without precedent. After abdicating the throne, the Duke of Windsor—formerly King Edward VIII—was appointed Governor of the Bahamas in 1940, a wartime posting widely seen as a way to keep the former king at a safe distance while still giving him an official role within the Empire. Insiders say Harry views that chapter of royal history as proof there can be alternatives to life inside palace walls. Palace officials, however, aren’t buying it.

“The Palace isn’t entertaining the idea,” a royal source says. “The late Queen made it crystal clear there would be no half-in, half-out arrangement. That policy didn’t end with her.”

There’s also a practical obstacle. The Governor-General of Australia is appointed by the King only on the advice of the Australian Prime Minister. Buckingham Palace does not choose the candidate or influence the selection, making any such role effectively out of the King’s hands.

“Harry thinks there’s a creative compromise,” another source tells Naughty But Nice. “The institution believes the rules already exist. They’re not going to reinvent the monarchy for one family member.”

While King Charles is said to remain open to repairing his personal relationship with his youngest son, insiders insist reconciliation and a return to official royal duties are two entirely different conversations.

“Harry may still dream of being a working royal again,” one insider says. “Inside the Palace, that chapter has already been closed.”

The sad thing is this scenario was actually discussed… in 2019, when it was clear that Harry refused to divorce Meghan on his family’s orders, and the family was looking to “send” the Sussexes to another country. Australia was a possibility, as was Canada. Reportedly, Prince William was the one who said no to both – he didn’t want the Sussexes so close to American media markets in Canada, and he thought that sending the Sussexes to Australia would be like giving them their own fiefdom. That’s when “send the Sussexes to Africa” became a big discussion point. God, I’m so glad that they got the hell out of there. Obviously, Harry is not currently begging his father to appoint him Governor-General of Australia. That being said, Harry & Meghan’s visit to Australia this spring caused a huge amount of internal drama within the monarchy and the press. Those people were so mad that Australians were happy to see the Sussexes.

Shiloh Jolie was the first of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s kids to go the legal route to change her name. In 2024, on Shiloh’s 18th birthday, she hired a lawyer and began the process to drop the “Pitt” surname from her legal name. Brad was furious. Then, in April of this year, Zahara and Maddox both began their name-change process too, after years of dropping “Pitt” from their names socially and academically. Brad was also furious about that. Then, just two weekends ago, Knox and Vivienne turned 18 years old. Angelina is finally free of any and all custodial arrangements, and all of her kids are now legal adults. Well, not even two weeks after her 18th birthday, Vivienne has now filed to change her name too.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s daughter Vivienne is seeking to legally remove “Pitt” from her last name. The 18-year-old has filed a petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court requesting that her legal name be changed from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie. The reason for the name change is listed as “personal,” according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.

A hearing on Vivienne’s petition has been scheduled for Nov. 2, according to the court documents.

The filing marks the latest indication that Vivienne has distanced herself from the Pitt surname. In May 2024, Vivienne was credited as “Vivienne Jolie” in the Playbill for Broadway’s The Outsiders, which she helped produce alongside her mother.

Vivienne also isn’t the first of Jolie, 51, and Pitt’s six children to take steps toward dropping “Pitt” from her name. Zahara is seeking to legally change her name to Zahara Marley Jolie, while Maddox is requesting to become Maddox Chivan Jolie. In 2024, Shiloh filed to drop Pitt from her name and change it to Shiloh Jolie.

“It’s sad to see someone repeatedly publicize their successful alienation of their children from the other parent,” a source close to Pitt previously told PEOPLE.

Shiloh’s petition was granted in August 2024. Zahara and Maddox’s petitions remain pending, with Zahara’s hearing scheduled for Sept. 28 and Maddox’s set for Sept. 14, according to previous court documents obtained by PEOPLE.

It’s worth noting that when Knox graduated from high school, he used the name “Knox Jolie,” so he’s dropped “Pitt” in his personal life too. I actually think the fact that the kids are doing this in their own time indicates that Angelina is not coordinating it or directing her children to do it. Reportedly, Shiloh didn’t even tell her mom at first, she just went out and hired a lawyer herself, with her own money. Zahara waited until this year, the year she graduated from Spelman. Maddox waited until now, and he’s 24. And Vivienne was like… let’s just get this done right this year, less than two weeks after my 18th birthday. These kids haven’t been “alienated” from Brad, they’ve spent the last decade seeing what Brad has done to their mother. And they were all on that plane in 2016 as well.

As I’ve said before, I 100% enjoy the storyline about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex possibly buying a second home in Portugal. In 2024, the Mail was the first outlet to say that the Sussexes purchased a luxury villa at the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club in Melides, Portugal. At the time, the British press was in a tizzy about EU passports and/or Golden Visas, which would enable the Sussexes to travel with a lot of freedom around Europe. Allegedly, Meghan hired Soho House’s interior designers to work on the villa. It’s more than likely that the Sussex family also vacationed at the villa earlier this month, basing themselves in Portugal ahead of their UK visit. It’s worth noting that the Sussexes have never confirmed anything about purchasing a villa. But it’s win-win for them, and it’s a tacit admission by the tabloids that, actually, the Sussexes are doing very well financially, well enough to buy a villa in a fancy resort community in Portugal. Well, much like their Montecito mansion, it looks like the Portuguese villa was probably a fantastic investment.

After the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, had a private meeting with King Charles and Queen Camilla earlier this month, there have been rumours about Harry making a potential comeback to the UK. Insiders have suggested that the royal couple purchasing a property in Portugal in 2023 was a way to be closer to Britain. But could their real estate move actually have a different hidden motive?

Knight Frank’s Global House Price Index revealed in Q2 of 2025 that Portugal had an 18 per cent annual growth, being one of the fastest-growing European housing markets. Therefore, it would be an extremely savvy place to make a purchase.

Data from the Institute of National Statistics for Portugal suggests that a property in Portugal bought at the beginning of 2025 would now already be worth 20 per cent more just a year later.

Portugal would also have been a desirable location due to the ease of the buying process there. Both UK and US citizens can freely purchase property with no restrictions on type or quantity.

The couple have also been working on renovations, overhauling the interiors, according to reports, which will, of course, also raise its value. The MailOnline reported that their property is currently undergoing a design makeover. It’s a special project because Harry and Meghan have brought in designers from Soho House, the members’ club where they had their first date in 2016, to spearhead the transformation.

It is also probably no coincidence that Princess Eugenie also has a base in Portugal, considering that she and Prince Harry have remained close despite his estrangement from the rest of the family. Eugenie has been seen to have taken many trips stateside since Harry relocated in 2020. Eugenie and her family are based on the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club in Comporta. It is not known where the exact location of Harry’s home is.

Hello Magazine then tried to make it sound like the Montecito real estate market is facing a downturn, but come on – they bought that place in 2020 for $14.65 million and even in a weak buyer’s market, I’m sure that their mansion has easily doubled in value. If they bought the Portugal villa early, in 2023, as the properties were likely first coming to market, I’m positive that this was an excellent investment for them as well. Notice how they deflect away from admitting what the Portugal property means financially too – that the Sussexes don’t actually need money, therefore they’re not desperate to get back in the Windsors’ good graces and beg for scraps. But… but… they’re broke, the Mail swears!!

[Melinda French Gates] shared she was in her early 40s when she began experiencing symptoms of perimenopause, the time leading up to menopause when women can experience a range of symptoms, including irregular periods, hot flashes and bone loss.

French Gates said that although she “knew what to watch for,” getting the right help wasn’t easy.

“It was kind of unbelievable to me that, even in this, you know, unbelievably privileged situation I’m in, where I feel like I can get some of the best health care, it took me three doctors to really diagnose what I was going through and to get the right treatments for where I was,” she said.

She went on to explain to the CBS News senior correspondent that the delay “wasn’t because anybody was doing the wrong thing.”

“It’s because of what I now know, which is only a third, one third, of OB-GYNs in this country are trained in menopause,” she said.

French Gates didn’t disagree when O’Donnell, 52, asked if conditions like menopause could be preventing some women from achieving senior leadership roles.

“It could be one of the things holding women back,” said French Gates, a longtime advocate for women and girls. “We know that one in ten women step back from the workforce during their years of perimenopause or menopause because of severe symptoms that they’re experiencing.”

As Melinda mentioned, it’s much harder to work when you’re going through this and can’t always concentrate. I’m grateful every day that I work from home and have a flexible job. As for Melinda’s situation, it sounds like she got off easily. I don’t mean to be dismissive but I’ve heard many similar stories about health issues and especially menopause. Remember when Halle Berry said her doctor told her she had herpes and she was just dry down there? I often think about how Catherine Zeta-Jones said it took doctors months to notice that Michael Douglas had a walnut-sized tumor under his tongue. He had been complaining of ear and throat pain but it took several doctors to figure it out. (Douglas had stage 4 throat cancer in 2010 but went into remission and is doing well now at 81.)

I’m 53 and had a hysterectomy two years ago. While I kept my ovaries, the transition to feeling “normal” again involved so much trial and error. I’m on the Dotti .1 estrogen patch and use progesterone cream. No doctor told me how to do this or mentioned the work it could take. Last week, Chloe Fineman announced her departure from Saturday Night Live. She had been a cast member for seven seasons and she became reasonably famous during her tenure. According to Fineman, it was her choice to leave, and she called Lorne Michaels personally to tell him last week in the middle of a World Cup game (England-Argentina). My point is that Chloe is really emphasizing that it was her choice to leave SNL. And I think the timing is interesting, because just a few months ago, Chloe screwed up in a huge way and it became a really big deal. She told a horribly offensive story about her camp-counselor days and what she did to “get back” at a child who she didn’t like. Vanity Fair first published the video, then one week later, VF edited out Chloe’s story, which effectively Streisand-Effect’d the controversy. Anyway, everything around Fineman has felt different since then. And now she’s getting some shady reporting from Page Six:

Chloe Fineman’s relationships with her “Saturday Night Live” castmates weren’t always smooth sailing. Just a day after the comedian announced she was leaving NBC’s iconic late-night sketch show after seven seasons, a source exclusively told Page Six that while Fineman, 37, formed close friendships with some co-stars, she didn’t necessarily mesh with everybody.

“Chloe could rub people the wrong way at times,” our insider said. “She got along really well with some cast members, but not everyone clicked with her.”

According to the source, “Some cast members felt like she expected people to accommodate her and assumed everyone would adjust to her schedule and preferences.”

However, the insider noted, “It wasn’t some huge feud or anything like that.”

Meanwhile, a second source close to the show exclusively told Page Six: “There’s no truth to this.”

Representatives for Fineman or NBC did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.

Going back to the Vanity Fair controversy, I thought it was revealing about her dynamic with her SNL costars – all of whom were horrified by her story and the way she presented information about herself – and it was also revealing about her whole deal. Like, an amped-up theater kid who thinks life is one big look-at-me skit. Maybe that’s unfair, but it is what it is. As for this P6 story, I would guess that she made some friends at SNL but most people will be happy that she’s leaving.

This coming Sunday, the Duchess of Sussex’s guest-judge episode of MasterChef Australia will air. Meghan filmed this episode in April, during the Sussexes’ week-long tour of Australia. People were really upset in April, and they’re going to be even more upset on Sunday when the episode airs. Meghan did the same thing most guest-judges do on cooking competitions – she spoke to camera about cooking and the competition. She also chose the ingredients for the competition! We know because the producers released a preview of Meghan’s episode.

You know what? I’m mad! I’m upset that Meghan doesn’t appear on these kinds of cooking shows in America. She would be an amazing “judge” on Beat Bobby Flay or Guy’s Grocery Games or one of those kids’ cooking competitions. I might need to start a petition to convince Meghan to guest-star on some Food Network competition! Anyway, this looks very cute and I’m sure Meghan had a great time doing it.

Meanwhile, Aussie tabloids are desperately trying to make it sound like Meghan’s appearance was controversial in various ways. One story is that Meghan requested that MasterChef make zero mention of royalty, except she was introduced like this: “We’ve had MasterChef royalty in the kitchen before but no one like this… All the way from sunny California, please welcome to MasterChef Australia … The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle!” The tabloids say that Meghan was “frustrated” with this and Poh Ling Yeow was “upset” about it. Come on. Meghan was not upset about that, and she didn’t make other people upset about it either. Meghan knows some people are going to use her title and some won’t, and whatever, who cares.
