The Association of Firearms and Ammunition Dealers of the Philippines, Inc. (AFAD) officially opened the 32nd Defense and Sporting Arms Show (DSAS) last July 22 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, with Senate Majority Floor Leader Juan Miguel "Migz" Zubiri leading the opening ceremonies as guest of honor.

For more than three decades, the Defense and Sporting Arms Show has served as the country's premier firearms exhibition and the flagship event of AFAD, bringing together the firearms industry, government agencies, sports shooters, collectors, retailers, manufacturers, distributors, and responsible firearm owners to promote responsible gun ownership, public safety, and continued industry development.

This year's event also highlights AFAD's long-standing legislative advocacy for policies that protect the rights of responsible, law-abiding firearm owners while encouraging the growth of the Philippine firearms industry.

"We have consistently advocated for laws that improve compliance, simplify lawful ownership, and recognize that responsible citizens should not be punished for crimes committed by those who choose to violate the law."

He emphasized that AFAD supports strong enforcement against criminal misuse of firearms while opposing policies that unnecessarily burden legitimate firearm owners without addressing the root causes of violent crime.

"Our position has always been clear: enforce the law vigorously against criminals while respecting the rights of qualified, law-abiding firearm owners. Effective legislation should encourage compliance, not discourage it through unnecessary regulation," Topacio said.

Throughout the years, AFAD has worked closely with legislators, the Philippine National Police - Firearms and Explosives Office (PNP-FEO), local government units, and other government agencies to improve firearm laws, streamline licensing processes, strengthen safety education, and encourage greater compliance among firearm owners.

"Good legislation makes compliance easier for responsible citizens while allowing authorities to focus their resources on those who possess and use firearms illegally," Topacio added.

The five-day exhibition will feature leading local and international firearms manufacturers, importers, distributors, retailers, and industry partners showcasing the latest firearms, ammunition, optics, tactical equipment, sporting accessories, and outdoor gear.

The new HONOR 600 Series might just be your next obsession. I know it's mine, and not just for that well known camera and image to video feature! I'm here to show you my review of the HONOR 600. After spending days with the device, from binging on different anime series, casual gaming to café-work runs and endless camera testing, the HONOR 600 felt less like a “look what AI can do” phone and more like a genuinely convenient everyday companion.

What’s Inside the Box?

Inside the box, you get the HONOR 600 unit itself, a USB-C cable, charging brick, SIM ejector tool, documentation, and a clear protective case. It’s a straightforward unboxing experience, though the inclusion of essentials like the charger already feels like a small win these days. What I currently have on hand is the Orange colorway.

Design and Display

The HONOR 600 is undeniably sleek. It has that polished finish with its curved edges, slim profile, and minimalist rear camera module that give it a clean and modern aesthetic. But its overall look may feel a little too familiar to users who closely follow smartphone design trends. That I think is its double edged sword, as while it feels familiar enough, it doesn’t carve out as strong an identity as it could have.

Still, the build quality itself is impressive. The phone comes with SGS 5-star drop and crush resistance certification alongside IP69, and IP69K water and dust resistance, which adds peace of mind for people who are constantly outdoors or traveling. The “K” part means that the phone can also withstand high temperature water jets.

The 6.57-inch AMOLED display is one of the HONOR 600’s strongest features. With a 120Hz refresh rate, 2728 x 1264 resolution, and HDR support for Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, watching content on this phone feels immersive without trying too hard. The 8000-nit HDR peak brightness is especially useful outdoors, while features like AI Brightness Adjustment and Ultra Dark Mode make late-night scrolling far less stressful on the eyes.

If you’re someone like me who gets dizzy in moving vehicles, it quietly becomes a game-changer, making screen time on the road actually bearable instead of uncomfortable because of its Motion Sickness mode for the display.

But the real wow factor here is battery life.

The HONOR 600’s battery and charging setup feel more than just competitive, it genuinely changed how one would use the phone day to day. It has a 7000 mah capacity, 80W Wired HONOR SuperCharge and 27W Wired Reverse Charging. With my regular use that included WiFi, Netflix, casual photography, social media scrolling, and light gaming, the phone comfortably lasted me around a day and a half before I even started thinking about charging it. Most days, I’d only plug it in sometime around midday the following day, which slowly removes the low-battery anxiety modern smartphones have trained us to live with.

Camera and AI Features

The HONOR 600 carries a 200MP Ultra-clear Night Camera with OIS alongside a 12MP ultra-wide and macro camera, while the front gets a sharp 50MP selfie shooter. Daylight photos come out crisp and vibrant, though the camera is also confident in not so well-lit environments.

That low-light performance is a very welcome and decent surprise. Night shots keep a fair amount of detail without looking too soft, and the exposure is pretty consistent even in difficult lighting. The OIS also makes a difference when taking handheld photos at night as it reduces the chances of blur and makes shots easier to capture on the first try.

What makes the experience more fun, however, are the AI-powered editing tools built directly into the phone. AI Image-to-Video can transform still photos into short animated clips for social media, while AI Erase helps clean up unwanted objects in seconds. It has different iterations from removing wrinkles in clothes to removing passersby and reflections. There’s also Magic Color, which subtly enhances tones without making photos look overly processed.

They’re the kind of features that sound gimmicky at first, until you realize how often you actually use them.

Performance and AI Experience

We're currently using one with 8GB RAM and 256 GB storage. This one you can upgrade to 16 GB via the HONOR RAM Turbo. It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 processor which lets the HONOR 600 handle everyday tasks smoothly. Apps open quickly, multitasking feels seamless, and casual gaming runs reliably without excessive heating.

One standout feature is the dedicated AI button located separately from the power and volume keys. It can be customized to launch camera functions, video recording, AI tools, Google Lens, and other HONOR shortcuts. While it would’ve been even more useful if it supported launching third-party apps, having quick access to built-in AI functions still makes the experience feel more streamlined.

I also love the fact that you can use this phone not just as a remote for your TV but other appliances as well like your Dyson fan or the Air Con.

This is through HONOR AI Space app. A better alternative instead of buying another universal remote.

And honestly, that’s where HONOR’s AI approach works best. Instead of replacing creativity or human input, the AI tools simply remove small everyday inconveniences. Features like AI transcription for meetings and voice notes, real-time translation, and AI-generated summaries help simplify routine tasks without forcing you to jump between multiple apps.

The HONOR 600 isn’t trying to reinvent the smartphone, or replace creatives with AI. Instead, it quietly focuses on making daily life feel a little smoother—and sometimes, that’s exactly what people need.

That's where the HONOR 600 finds its sweet spot. It's a smartphone designed for people who move seamlessly between work, play, and everything in between—whether you're a student juggling deadlines, a young professional constantly on the go, a content creator documenting everyday moments, or a frequent traveler who needs a phone that won't quit before the day does.

My takeaway here it that the HONOR 600 gives us an AI experience that feels genuinely useful. Mental health continues to decline globally, according to the latest Mind Health Report from AXA, a worldwide leader in insurance. Conducted in partnership with IPSOS, one of the world’s leading market research companies, the 2026 study also points to the growing use of artificial intelligence for mental health consultations and underscores the role companies play in supporting people’s well-being.

Global pattern, local intensity

Mental health continues to decline globally, with 10 of the 16 countries in the study posting their lowest mental health scores since the first survey wave in 2021. Nearly half (46%) of respondents say they are either struggling or languishing, reinforcing what researchers describe as a long-term trend fueled by mounting stressors that continue to erode psychological well-being.

In the Philippines, the number of people classified as struggling has seen slight improvement, but concerns remain. Around 31% of Filipinos are still considered languishing, amid ongoing worries about financial instability and rising social unrest. While there has been some progress, it remains fragile, particularly among younger Filipinos. As digital life becomes increasingly inescapable, 72% of Filipino youth report feelings of loneliness or sadness. For many, being online is no longer a choice but a constant presence—shaping conversations, identities, and daily experiences, while also creating a space where pressure rarely lets up.

Filipino youth now spend an average of 7.5 hours a day on screens, and 98% say this negatively affects their daily lives. The impact is not abstract. It shows up in disrupted sleep, fractured attention, and emotional overstimulation that lingers even after the screen is turned off.

Beyond fatigue, many also reported elevated levels of stress, anxiety, and poor well-being, leading to more frequent sick leaves. This suggests that emotional strain is no longer confined to digital spaces but is increasingly affecting performance in school and at work, as well as day-to-day functioning.

A double-edged development

As emotional pressures continue to rise, more Filipinos are turning to AI for emotional guidance and everyday support. In fact, 29% regularly use AI tools to help manage their mental health—higher than the global average of 21%. This is especially common among Filipinos aged 18 to 34 and those who self-report having a mind health condition.

But while AI has become a go-to source of support, it isn't without risks. Around a third (33%) of Filipinos said they felt uneasy or concerned after receiving AI guidance, while 25% reported that AI recommendations had led them to harmful behavior.

The study also highlights a major gap between the Philippines and the rest of the world: cost remains the biggest barrier to accessing mental health support locally. Globally, lack of awareness is the more common challenge. The findings suggest that while many Filipinos recognize their mental health needs and are open to seeking help, affordability and accessibility continue to stand in the way.

This is where practical, everyday support can make a difference. AXA Philippines is expanding access to mind health solutions through initiatives such as the Mind Health Self-Check tool, which helps individuals assess and monitor their mental wellbeing. The company also offers health plans that include free mental health consultations and coverage for select mental health conditions, part of a broader effort to make mental wellbeing a more accessible part of everyday health protection.

For Ayman Kandil, President and CEO of AXA Philippines, the findings reveal a deeper shift in how Filipinos experience emotional pressure. “This year’s findings show that stress is no longer showing up one challenge at a time. Filipinos are carrying multiple pressures at once and still trying to keep up with school, work, and daily life. When emotional strain starts affecting how people function every day, support cannot wait for burnout or crisis. We need to make it easier for people to seek help early and nurture communities where mental well-being is treated as a shared responsibility,” said Kandil.

In the end, this year’s AXA Mind Health Report underscores a simple but uncomfortable reality that Filipinos are not just stressed; they are managing multiple, overlapping pressures with limited space to recover in between. Istorya LV, a pop-up restaurant and cultural storytelling hub, brought together Isang Kusina, a collaborative dinner honoring Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. The evening traced the journey of Filipino food in America — from its first recorded landing in 1587 at “Morro Bay to the bayous of Saint Malo and beyond.”

Its latest gathering, the Community Bubble Bash, turned an ordinary weekend into an afternoon filled with laughter, play, and plenty of bubbly fun.

On a sunny Friday, May 22, Bubbles filled Amiya Raya’s infinity pool, welcoming the weekend. With a spectacular mountain view as its backdrop, time slowed town, bringing relaxation and calm to the event’s attendees. Aside from the community's homeowners, invited guests were also welcomed to the event. The sun shone brightly as everyone enjoyed access to the pool, fun games, and the bubble bash, which was enjoyed by both kids and adults. Refreshing and relaxing in the pool’s cool waters, laughter, great energy, and family-friendly fun, filling the space.

“We hosted a Bubble Bash for everyone to enjoy. As with our other events, this one also aimed to bring the community together and encourage more people to visit and experience Amiya Raya. We also want everyone to know that there are a lot of fun and exciting activities they can look forward to here in our community,” shared Dawn Bernardo, Banquet Sales & marketing Manager of Amiya Raya.

The Bubble Bash, which took place at Club Vihara, highlighted Amiya Raya as a perfect place for family bonding, relaxation, and recreation.
