Create a cozy Christmas bedroom with these green and white Christmas bedroom decor ideas! Simple ways to bring that Christmas magic to your bedroom.

Hello! It’s been a long time since I’ve posted and I’ve missed you all! It feels like there have been so many changes in the blogging world over the past few years, but the Christmas season has always been my favorite time of the year to share my projects, so here I am!

Christmas Home Tours

Today, I’m joining Jen Rizzo for a mini holiday home tour. There are just four stops on the tour this year, so hopefully you’ll be able to check them all out. As always, they’re filled with beautiful and creative ideas to add that magical Christmas touch to your home. You can click HERE or on the button below to see everyone on the tour!

If you’re coming over from Zevy Joy – welcome! I’m sure you loved Annie’s beautiful classic Christmas home. Her Christmas trees are so gorgeous! Just click on the button below if you still need to tour her home…

Christmas Bedroom Decor

For my tour, I wanted to share some Christmas bedroom decor ideas. I always look forward to decorating our bedroom for Christmas. It creates such a relaxing and peaceful space to retreat to when the holidays start to get a little overwhelming. I love the lights and coziness so much, I typically keep a lot of the decor up throughout the whole winter season. Here are a few of my favorite Christmas bedroom decor tips if you’d like to design your own Christmas sanctuary!

Cozy Up Your Bedding

There’s nothing better than snuggling into your bed on a cold night! For most of the year, I use a white duvet cover as the base cover on our bed. I can then switch out the quilt and pillows for the different seasons to add a pop of color or pattern. I found this velvet quilt at Target a few years ago (very similar to this Pottery Barn quilt!) and love the texture and coziness that it brings.

I tend to sleep hot so I use bamboo sheets all year round, but flannel sheets are a great option if you’re looking for something warmer.

Add Some Greenery

Using greenery or other faux stems is one of the quickest and easiest ways to bring in that Christmas feel. I love all of the new “real touch” faux greenery that has come out over the last few years and try to invest in a couple of new pieces each year. The greenery above the bed is one of my only Christmas decor purchases this year and I think it makes a big impact in the room. Plus it gives me another place that I can add lights.

You can also add swags or wreaths to your mirrors, a small garland to your dresser, or put some faux stems in a vase. It’s such a simple way to dress things up for the holidays.

Put up a Tree

You can never go wrong adding a Christmas tree to your bedroom! There are many smaller options or thinner trees available if you’re short on space. I found an inexpensive tree from Walmart for our bedroom back during the “corona times” to cheer me up and I never went back. I love having a tree in our room!

I have been collecting felt mice for a number of years and they all hang out on this tree. Just a little something that makes me smile.

Bring In the Christmas Scents

There are so many amazing scents that remind me of Christmas and I love bringing a few of my favorites into the bedroom. Light your favorite Christmas candles, add some linen spray to your sheets (or create your own DIY linen spray!), or diffuse some essential oils. Thymes Frasier Fir is my favorite Christmas scent and I always splurge for a new one each year. I also use the laundry oil for our sheets and towels.

Light It Up

Nothing is more relaxing and peaceful than a pretty glow! Add candles, twinkle lights, or other lighted decor pieces to create that beautiful Christmas ambiance. I added some battery operated lights along the garland above our bed and have some decorative candles throughout the room. My favorite piece is this lighted crystal tree that I picked up from Hobby Lobby a number of years ago.

I can never seem to capture the glow of the Christmas tree on camera very well, but here she is all lit up.

I hope you enjoyed the mini tour and found some inspiration for your own Christmas bedroom decor.

Don’t forget to continue on with the remaining Christmas home tours for even more inspiration. I am tecnically at the end of the tour, but you can start from the beginning by visiting Jennifer Rizzo. Jen always has the most creative and unique decor ideas – you’ll love all of her nostalgic, vintage Christmas decor.

2025 Calendar Printable

I’m super late this year (again!!), but the 2025 calendar printable is finally here! So… here it is as a thank-you to all of you! I am so thankful to everyone that has taken the time to support me in some way throughout the year. Every comment, share, like and follow means the world to me. So thank-you from the bottom of my heart and enjoy your new 2025 desk calendar!

How to Download the Desk Calendar

I have all of the calendar months in one PDF file for you, so you just need to download the one link and save it to your files. If you’re having any troubles downloading it, try using Google Chrome for your browser {if you aren’t already} and check your security settings.

Once you have it downloaded, you can just print it off on your computer. I usually print mine four to a page {about a 3.5 x5 size}, but it works as a full size page too. If you print it as a different size, just make sure that check that you’re not cutting off any important information. Thick computer paper or cardstock is recommended for printing. Use a paper trimmer to trim the borders to your desired size.

Tips for Printing the Calendar

Every printer is a little bit different but here are a few printing tips that I use on our printer {I use a Mac}:

Always preview your images first to make sure that you like the layout before printing.

To print four to a page, go to “preview” in the printer settings and then click on “layout”. Click on 4 pages {you could do 2 to a page too if you wanted the calendar it a little bigger} and print it out.

If the calendar is not filling as much of the space as you would like, click on scale to fit or increase the scale percentage.

I have left the calendar borderless so you can trim to whatever size you would like; however most printers will allow you to add a border when you print. This is under the layout section as well for our printer.

Calendar Gift Idea

These little calendars make a cute little gifts for friends or coworkers. They’re really cute and everyone can use a calendar! Once you have all of the months cut out, just add the title page to the top and package it all up. For a pretty presentation, add it to a little clipboard or clipboard frame, tie it up with some baker’s twine or narrow ribbon, or use a cute bulldog clip tied with some bells and ribbon.

How to Display Your Calendar

There are so many different ways that you can use this calendar! I like to use it as a small desk calendar – usually right on my work desk or at our kitchen command center – but I’ve loved hearing about all of the different ways that you’ve displayed yours and packaged them up for gifts. Here are some of my favorite ways that I’ve used this calendar in previous years…

Place it on a wood slice holder. A wood slice makes a really cute calendar holder! Just cut off a 4-5 diameter piece of wood {I just found a big branch in my parent’s backyard} and then use a saw to make a small groove in the center to hold your calendar. You can dress it up with some ribbon or twine if you would like.

Display it in a frame. Keep all of the months in the frame and then just rotate them around each month.

Create a mini calendar for your purse.

Use a clipboard. A clipboard is a quick and easy way to display you calendar. Just grab one in a similar size to what you print your calendar at and clip it on. {This is last year’s calendar!}

Pin it on a pinboard.

Download Your 2025 Calendar Printable

To get your own calendar just click on the link below. All of the months and the cover title are all in the one file, so you can just download, save, and print.

Winter Woodland Christmas Dining Room

I wanted to create kind of a winter forest feeling in our dining room this year. I used mostly items that I already had and searched through all of my Christmas decor to find pieces that would go with my vision.

To start with, I brought in lots of earth tones like forest greens, browns, whites, and silver to capture the essence of a snowy forest. I also included a variety of natural elements such as faux greenery, twigs, pine cones, snowflakes, and trees. Lastly, I added in twinkle lights and candles to bring in a little warmth. In the end, I think it turned into the perfect cozy space to celebrate the holidays.

If you’re looking to create a similar vibe in your own space, I thought I would break down the various spaces in the room for you. I think these ideas can really be used in a variety of different decor styles, so go ahead and put your own spin on them!

Christmas Centerpiece

I got these black candlesticks a couple of months ago and knew that I wanted to use them for a Christmas centerpiece. The candles are battery operated and have a pretty faux candle flicker. They’re easy to turn on and off with a remote control and even have a timer function.

I placed some faux touch greenery around them along with a snowy pinecone lighted garland for that perfect woodsy touch. And, it looks so pretty when it’s all lit up!

Christmas Sideboard

Our Christmas sideboard holds a variety of functional pieces that I will be using throughout the holidays. I kind of love how it all came together.

I added a swag to the large hanging basket above our sideboard using greenery, pinecones, and some green velvet ribbon. The swag is just hung over the top of the basket by folding down the stem of the greenery.

I also put together a little hot chocolate bar using a couple of glass tree jars to hold the hot chocolate powder and marshmallows. I love adding different coffee syrups for a little flavor variation and used these DIY coffee bar labels to decorate the pumps.

You can find lots of other ideas for how to put together a hot chocolate bar HERE.

This cute glass tree beverage container is another favorite of mine from this year’s purchases. I need to come up with some green Christmas punch to put in it. lol!

Christmas Cabinet

Our Pottery Barn cabinet is one of my favorite things to decorate each season. I found these juniper berry mugs and platters at Superstore {it’s a local grocery store if you’re not in Canada!} and they kind of set the tone for the rest of the dining room.

I love the whites and greens together while the wood pieces add a touch of warmth. The juniper berry pieces from Superstore went perfectly with these faux juniper sprays that I purchased a couple of years ago.

Decorated Light Fixture

One of the first things I thought when I saw this light fixturethis light fixture was how pretty it would look draped in a Christmas garland! I used a real touch Norfolk pine garland twisted together with a twig garland over the top, and then hung some paper snowflakes using clear fishing wire.

Winter Wonderland Christmas Tree

We have our main Christmas tree up in our family room, but I love having a tree in the dining room so you can see it as soon as you walk in the house.

I used mostly white and silver ornaments on the tree to mimic snow and icicles, along with some snowflakes and a few woodland critters. For a little color, I added some green ribbon and a sprinkle of green ornaments.

I also like to dress up underneath the tree. I used my favorite antique train, along with some faux presents and a wood sled.

And the last thing that I wanted to show you are these cute pinecone candles. I purchased these last year and used them throughout the year. They ended up going perfectly with this winter woodland theme. They’re battery operated and come on automatically each day for a nice glow right when you enter the house.

Thanks for joining me for our Christmas dining room tour. I hope you enjoyed it and found a few ideas that you can use in your own home. Have a wonderful holiday season!

Thank-you to everyone that visited our gingerbread inspired Christmas kitchen! If you haven’t had a chance to tour around, I hope you’re able to check it out.

Gingerbread Printables

One of the things I typically do in our kitchen is to create a new seasonal printable to share with you every year. This year, of course, it was a gingerbread theme! I kept them pretty simple with a neutral color scheme so they will easily go with any style of Christmas decor.

I always like to have options before I choose “the one” so I created three different gingerbread styles: gingerbread men, a gingerbread wreath, and a gingerbread village. Maybe I’m biased but I think they came out pretty cute! I still haven’t completely decided which one I’m using and have been switching between the village and the gingerbread men.

Even though I used mine in the kitchen, these printables can really be used in any room of the house and with a variety of Christmas decor. You can even print them smaller and use them for gift tags.

Download the Free Gingerbread Christmas Printables

If you’d like to add a little gingerbread decor to your own home, I have all of the printables available to you. To download your copy, just click on the design and size that you’d like and save it to your computer. Each printable is available in an 8×10 or 11×14 size. You can then print them out on your home printer or send them out to any digital photo service to have them printed. {NOTE: I always specify to NOT color correct if I’m sending them out for printing.} Please note that these printables are FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY.

Hello and welcome! It’s hard to believe that it’s already December, but I’m excited to finally start sharing some seasonal ideas with you! I’ve gotten a much later start on the Christmas decorating this year and have been trying to find little pockets of time to add some cozy seasonal touches throughout our home.

Holiday Housewalk

Today, I’m so happy to be joining Jennifer Rizzo again for her annual Holiday Housewalk. I look forward to this Christmas home tour every year and hope that you enjoy all of the beautiful Christmas decor ideas and inspiration as much as I do. If you’re coming over from City Farmhouse, thank-you for stopping by! I have been a huge fan of Jen’s for many years now and love her style and design tips. I know you will be inspired by her beautiful east coast home and Christmas decor.

Gingerbread Inspired Christmas Kitchen Decor

Today, I’m going to be sharing our gingerbread inspired Christmas kitchen decor with you. When it comes to Christmas decor, you can’t really go wrong with a classic gingerbread theme. I think it adds that festive, whimsical touch to any room in your home!

Gingerbread decor seems to have become extra popular over the past couple of years, so there are lots of options to purchase in stores. You can also make your own homemade gingerbread or DIY some gingerbread crafts. Check out our felt gingerbread garland HERE and our faux gingerbread cinnamon ornaments HERE.

If you’re looking for some simple ways to add some gingerbread decor to your own kitchen, here are some easy ideas for you…

Style a tray.

Using a tray as a base for your holiday decor allows you to keep everything corralled together and creates a less cluttered look. It’s also a lot easier for cleaning! I always start our kitchen decor with this corner tray and have lots of fun coming up with different ways to style it. You can find all of my tips for styling a wood tray HERE.

For this gingerbread tray, I used a lighted gingerbread house (purchased at Canadian Tire) and a little gingerbread candy dish from Target. The gingerbread man hanging from the tree is actually a chip bag clip that I found at Walmart. I thought that were so cute! Finally, I added some coordinating ribbon, a faux gingerbread snowflake, and some greenery to the back for an extra pop of color.

Dress up the kitchen sink.

I love switching up our hand and dish soaps for the different seasons. Washing dishes is definitely not my favorite activity but having a cute sink display makes it a little more enjoyable. I found these adorable gingerbread soap dispensers at HomeGoods and added some Mrs. Myers gingerbread dish soap and hand soap to them. I placed them on a cake stand with a scrub brush and sprig of greenery for a pretty Christmas touch.

I also added a little tree with some DIY faux gingerbread cinnamon ornaments to tie the display all together.

Mix in Decorative with Functional

Finding functional decor for the kitchen is a practical way to add some seasonal touches. I always like to add some Christmas decor to our utensil tray and switch this up every season. I’ve had this gingerbread man cutting board and rolling pin for a few years (both from HomeSense) and added these gingerbread salt and pepper shakers this year.

Display some gingerbread artwork.

I always create some kind of seasonal printable for our kitchen so, of course, I had to make some gingerbread artwork this year. You can find all of the free printable gingerbread designs HERE. I’m currently torn between displaying one of the gingerbread men prints or the gingerbread village. What do you think?

Decorate a bowl.

One of the simplest ways to add a little Christmas decor, is to fill a bowl with some faux greenery and ornaments. It’s easy to customize to any color scheme or holiday theme. For our kitchen this year, I added more of the gingerbread snowflakes to the bowl.

Add a cookie jar.

I purchased this gingerbread house cookie jar last year and it was the starting point for our gingerbread inspired dining room last Christmas. Not only is this cookie jar super cute, it also works as extra storage when not being used for cookies. I’ve used cookie jars to store seasonal cookie cutters/baking supplies, kitchen linens, and other treats in the past. They’re perfect for keeping things handy but out of sight!

I kind of turned this into a little hot chocolate bar and added our white Santa mugs, some gingerbread men napkins and my DIY felt gingerbread house coasters. The cookie jar currently holds hot chocolate packets, a bag of marshmallows, and a jar of crushed peppermint.

Glow it up.

Lastly, you need a little glow! I love adding twinkle lights at any time of year, butI think they’re even more magical at Christmas. The glow of the lights perfectly compliments the gingerbread colors.

Candles are another easy way to add some glow – along with a nice scent! I have been searching for a gingerbread scented candle that I like but ended up going with a good pine scent instead.

Thank-you all for joining in the tour today! I always love sharing our home with you and hope that you find a little Christmas decor inspiration that you can use in your home.

I’m technically the last home on the tour, but please head over to Jennifer Rizzo to start from the beginning. She always has the most unique and creative craft and decor ideas – you won’t want to miss it!

I wish you all a magical Christmas season and hope you can find some time to just relax and take in all of the beauty that the season has to offer.

Merry Christmas!

Learn how to style a wooden tray for Christmas with these simple tips and tricks. Customize your own tray to fit any style or color scheme.

One of my favorite things to do with seasonal decor is to put together cute vignettes. This corner tray in our kitchen is always lots of fun to decorate and typically one of the first things I style each season. Today, I thought that I would share some of my Christmas tray designs from over the years and give you a few tips for styling your own wooden tray.

How to Style a Wood Tray

Wooden trays are a wonderful way to add a seasonal touch to your home. Using a tray as a base for your holiday decor allows you to keep everything corralled together and creates a less cluttered look. For smaller spaces, look to combine decorative elements with more functional items to create a pretty and useful tray.

Pick your tray.

Obviously, the first thing you’ll need is a tray to style! I like round or oval trays for fitting into corners or as a centerpiece on a kitchen island. A rectangular tray would work best if you’ll be placing it along the back of a kitchen counter. Be sure to take the size of the tray into consideration. You want to make sure that it’s proportional to the space you will be displaying it in and will be able to fit the items you want to display.

I purchased my wood tray a number of years ago from Decor Steals, but you can find some fabulous, inexpensive trays at HomeSense (or HomeGoods in the States). Amazon has lots of great options as well.

Choose a color scheme or theme.

Choosing a color scheme or theme (or both!) helps to give you direction for picking what pieces you want to display on the tray. This creates a cohesive look and really helps to draw the eye. This green and white tree themed tray from a couple of years ago. was a favorite of mine.

You can also use a tray to pull together items for a common function such as a hot chocolate bar or this Christmas milk and cookie bar.

Pick your items.

I usually start with one larger item that I want to use on the tray and then build around that. Cookie jars are a frequent item that I like to use. Not only do they work for cookies, but they can also be used to store any other items that you want to keep handy but out of sight. For example, I have stored seasonal cookie cutters, kitchen linens, other food items, etc. This Nutcracker cookie jar ended up being the inspiration for our whole Nutcracker kitchen decor last year.

Vary the height and depth.

When styling a tray, look to group items together, varying the heights and depth of the pieces to create more visual interest. If you have multiple items that are all the same size, add a cake stand or riser to create more height. To add height in the back, I often use a wood towel ladder. This one is from Sugar N Milk Co. but they have them on Etsy and Amazon too. It’s easy to find inexpensive towels in a coordinating color or theme and it adds a nice pop of color.

Add filler.

Once you have added the major components to your tray, add smaller items to fill in any gaps. I like to use smaller bits of greenery to fill in blank spaces or add smaller decorative pieces that coordinate. This really helps to pull it all together! If you still need a little more color or texture, roll up kitchen towels or find some coordinating napkins.

I hope you find that helpful and are inspired to put together your own seasonal tray! Let me know if you have any questions.

Welcome back to our fall home tour! I’m continuing on with the tour today and moving into the dining room. If you missed our fall living room decor, you can check out the post HERE.

Modern Fall Dining Room

Last year we did a few major renos to our home including some big changes in the dining room. We finally got rid of the wall to wall carpet in the dining room and replaced it {along with the rest of the flooring on the main floor} with natural hickory wood. We also updated our dining room furniture for a bit of a more modern look. Our previous furniture was over 20 years old, so it was definitely exciting to have a new room to design! {You can see our previous dining room decorated for fall HERE}.

When I was designing the space, I knew I wanted to keep things fairly simple with just a few key furniture pieces that I loved. I also wanted to to make sure that there was room to create some seasonal displays and switch around the decor. The black bar cabinet and sideboard have been lots of fun to decorate and it was pretty quick to pull everything together.

Simple Fall Dining Room Decor Tips

Today, I thought I would share some simple fall dining room decor ideas and the thought process that I typically go through when I’m decorating a space. Seasonal decorating doesn’t have to be anything big – just a few little touches can still make a big impact!

Get Inspired

When I’m decorating any seasonal space, I always like to start off with some kind of inspiration piece, theme, or color scheme. maybe it’s a tablecloth, a favorite seasonal piece, or a pumpkin theme. This year I decided to go with a color inspiration and wanted to work around the beautiful plum color of this cimicifuga leaf garland. I love the rich hue and thought that it was the perfect pop of color for a more modern fall look.

I ran one garland along the sideboard and draped another one over our light fixture. In the corner, I also added some coordinating cimicifuga stems in a vase in the corner to tie the whole room together.

Shop Your Home

Before you go out and purchase anything new, play around with what you already have. Other than the garland, I didn’t purchase anything new this year. Switching up where and how you use your seasonal decor can make it all seem like new again! If you look around at my previous fall home tours, you can see many of the items here in other rooms or displayed a little differently. Be creative and see what you can come up with using what you already own.

Be Intentional with Purchases

I’ve always enjoyed decorating our home for the different seasons and love scouring the stores for the perfect find. I’m the first one to admit that I have gathered way too much stuff over the years and have actually been working on donating or selling items that I no longer need. I’ve also really been scaling back what I purchase and have been much more selective with what I buy. For fall, I like to decorate primarily with classic, neutral items that can be styled a variety of ways along with natural elements and some pretty pops of fall colors.

If you do want to purchase something new, look for more classic items that you will love for years to come. Curate little collections that you can gradually add to over the years. I love my squirrels that you can find scattered throughout the house and they would still work for decor even outside of the fall season.

Decorate with Functional Items

There are so many cute fall items that can serve as both decor as well as being useful. Think pumpkin tureens, fall colored glasses or dinnerware, seasonal cookie jars, or pretty fall towels for a pop of color.

This bar cabinet has been really fun to decorate for the seasons. Mixing in neutral everyday items with a few seasonal touches, creates an easy fall display while still keeping needed items easily accessible. You can find the free printable coffee bar labels that I used for my fall syrups, HERE.

Embrace the Glow

I love using twinkle lights any time of year, but I think they look extra pretty agains the rich, fall color palettes. Look for twinkle lights that are on a timer, so you can just set and forget about them. I set ours to go on around 5:00 as it gets dark, and love coming home from work to a little twinkle. For items that need to be plugged into an outlet, use smart plugs to easily turn them on and off with your smart phone.

I have made some kind of variation of this amber glass centerpiece a couple of times now as I just love how the lights glow against the amber. And I love my squirrels!

Shop the Post

If you’re looking for any of the items in our dining room, I’ve tried to link what I can. Most of the fall decor items have been gradually collected over the years. In general, I love Afloral for any faux flowers and stems, but have also found some nice options at Michaels and Urban Barn. HomeSense, Target, and West Coast Gardens {a local garden centre} are my favorite places for seasonal decor. You can really find some great seasonal pieces almost anywhere these days though – I’ve even found some cute items at our local grocery store! Please let me know if you have any questions about anything specifcally.

Fall Home Tours

As soon as September 1 arrives, I start to get that itch to bring out the fall decor! I have been doing a little fluffing here and there over the past couple of weeks, and I’m excited to start showing you what I’ve been working on.

Today, I’m joining Marty from A Stroll Thru Life and 15 other talented friends for a cozy fall home tour. We’re all sharing simple touches we have added to our homes for autumn and hope that you can join us! If you’re coming over from Chalking Up Success – welcome! I’m sure you enjoyed Jayne’s beautiful home and fall table decor ideas.

Our Fall Living Room

If you haven’t already guessed it, today I’m sharing our fall living room with you. I don’t think I’ve actually showed our living room since we put in our new flooring and staircase last year so there are some pretty big changes. I was planning on doing a full post on the staircase but haven’t gotten around to it yet. In the interim, you can see what it looked like a couple of years ago HERE.

Due to a flood from our new washing machine, we had to get the flooring replaced on our main level last year {after taking almost a year to decide what we wanted to do!}. With the flooring on the main floor being replaced, we really needed to do the staircase and upstairs hallway as well. I had been wanting to do this for years so it was the final push that I needed! After countless samples and hours researching, we ended up deciding on hickory wood and I have been very happy with it!

I’m still looking for the perfect area rug to complete the space, so let me know if you have any ideas!

How to Create a Cozy Fall Living Room

I love decorating for fall! The colors and textures are so pretty and help to create such a warm and cozy space. If you’re ready to transition to your home to fall, try these 5 simple ways to add that beautiful fall touch to your living room. It’s amazing what a few simple swaps can do!

Fall Florals

Adding some fall blooms and stems to your decor is one of the quickest and easiest ways to add a pretty touch of fall. Faux florals have come a long way over the past few years and you can find so many pretty, realistic options. They’re a great way to add a pop of color and I love all of the different textures. If you happen to have some real branches or fresh clippings from your yard, even better!

Faux florals is one area that I will often invest a little more money to get higher quality pieces that will last over the years. I’ve had some of these for almost 10 years. Afloral is one of my favorite places to purchase faux stems but I’ve also found some great ones at Target, Urban Barn and Michaels. Shop the seasonal sales and you can find some good deals.

Cozy Textiles

Create a warm and comfy space to relax by adding layers of cozy textiles. It’s amazing how much of a difference a few throw pillows and blankets can make! Swap out your summer pillows for more cozy fall cushions in cozy materials such as faux fur, velvet, or knits. Drape soft, inviting throw blankets over your sofa to grab as the evenings get a little chillier. There are so many beautiful rich color options that fall has to offer, so embrace a little color!

The only new things that I purchased for the living room this year were these knit rust-colored pillows from HomeSense. I loved the color and the soft, cozy fabric so I couldn’t resist.

Fall Scents

I love all of the scents of fall! Even if you’re not a fan of pumpkin spice, there are still many other classic fall scents to suit everyone’s tastes. Cinnamon, apple, maple, cloves, and warm, woody amber scents all invoke that cozy autumn feeling. I love using a diffuser in the living room and can customize it with whatever scents {and intensity of scents!} that I like.

Candles are obviously another easy option for adding scent to your space. Plus, the glow that it creates is always so warm and relaxing. Again, Homesense and Target are probably my favorite places to grab a good candle. They always have lots of pretty options for seasonal containers and so many good scents to choose from!

Art Work

Swapping out some of your photo frames for seasonal artwork or photos is a very inexpensive and easy way to add that seasonal touch. Plus, you can always store them away in the back of the frame in between seasons so it doesn’t take up any storage space. I have tons of free fall printables on my blog and you can also find lots of inexpensive options on Etsy too. I loved the color and design of this terracotta landscape and it was just that pop of color that I was looking for.

A Few Fun Seasonal Decor Pieces

I didn’t add a lot of extra decor pieces this year, but you can’t have fall without a few pumpkins popping up here and there! I have had these battery operated pumpkins for a number of years now and love the glow that they produce at night. There’s one downstairs on the cabinets behind the sofa as well.

I also have a few textured pumpkins around the space – a few scattered through our mantel shelves and one on top of our coffee table baskets {these store our remotes and some magazines}.

Thank-you so much for stopping by today. I hope you enjoyed the tour and are inspired to add some fall touches to your own home.
If you’re ready to make a change and get rid of all of that unwanted clutter in your home, start the year off with this January decluttering challenge! This home decluttering “detox diet” will help to jumpstart all of your decluttering and organization habits and set the tone for an ongoing organization plan!

The Household Organization Diet 2024 officially kicks off on January 1 with my January decluttering challenge – The 31 Day Home Detox Diet! Whether you just have a few trouble spots in your home or are completely feeling overwhelmed with all of the clutter, this challenge is for you. Who’s ready to make 2024 the best organized year yet?

What is The Household Organization Diet?

The Household Organization Diet is basically a year-long, systematic plan to get every room in your home decluttered, cleaned, and organized. You’ll receive monthly to do lists, tutorials and tips to get it all done, and tons of cleaning and organization inspiration! It’s designed to help you learn strategies and systems to create your ideal home and {most importantly!} how to keep it up on an ongoing basis. You can read more about it HERE.

What is The 31 Day Home Detox January Decluttering Challenge?

The 31 day detox decluttering challenge is designed to jumpstart your decluttering and organization habits and will help you clear out all of that obvious unwanted and unused “stuff” that is clogging up your home. For the next month we will be doing a quick rundown of our homes and getting rid of at least 10 items per day {feel free to do as many as you would like!}. The idea is to keep it simple and easy to keep up with. We will be going more thoroughly through each room during the year, so this is not the time to be taking on any time consuming projects or major re-organizing. Just 15 minutes per day – anywhere you would like.

Inevitably, I always get at least a few comments from readers laughing that they would never be able to do this in 15 minutes per day. While it’s true that you may not be able to completely declutter and organize the space – we’ll actually be doing that later in the year – this will hopefully give you a good head start and inspire you to keep going. It feels SO good to start clearing that extra weight out of your home and the benefits you see should encourage you in the year to follow.

What do I need to get started on this decluttering challenge?

All you really need are some garbage bags for trash and recycling and some bins or boxes for items that you will be donating. If you’re going to be following the full Household Organization Diet, I also recommend that you get a binder to keep all of the printables in. You can find the title page OVER HERE and the January printables below. This year I will be releasing the WHOLE YEAR of printable calendars and monthly tasks so you’ll have even more flexibility in designing what works best for you. They should be out mid-January so be sure to follow along!

Let’s Get Started!

Free Decluttering Challenge Printables

Before you get started, print out the organization printables below. You can use my pre-done challenge or use the blank plan to create your own areas to declutter. If the daily plan doesn’t work for you, spend a little longer once or twice per week and work on a few tasks at a time. Whatever works best for you!

Tips for a successful home decluttering challenge.

Remember that this is just a quick decluttering – NOT an organization project!

We have a whole year of organization ahead of us so don’t get burned out now! Remember that it has likely taken you years to accumulate all of your stuff so don’t feel bad if it takes you some time to get rid of it!

Get rid of any possible distractions.

Put away your phone, turn off notifications, and keep your kiddos busy with something else for 15 minutes {or better yet, get them involved if they’re old enough!}.

Work quickly.

Put on a timer and work as quickly as you can for the full time. Don’t spend time debating about things that you’re not sure about. Instead, target all of those obvious items that you know need to go. There will be more time for other items when we work on the individual rooms.

Stay focused.

If you have a lot of decluttering to do, it can be easy to get overwhelmed. Just remember – it’s only 15 minutes and it is only one small space. Pull out only what you have time for. You don’t want a bigger mess in the end than what you started with!

Have a donate bin {or two!} handy.

Trust me. You will probably be making multiple trips down to The Salvation Army this month. Have a bin or tote {and garbage bag!} nearby when you are decluttering to sort out all of your items that you will be getting rid of as you come to them.

Don’t let perfection get in the way.

Again, this is a quick decluttering. Spend all of your time getting rid of things and we will be coming back to make things look pretty later. Don’t think about it too much – just get started!! If you come across items that belong elsewhere when you are decluttering, put them away where they belong!

If you need a little extra motivation to get your going, read this post on tackling procrastination and this post on conquering your decluttering paralysis to help get your started on your way.

The Home Decluttering Diet Book

For those of you that really want to get your home decluttered and organized, my book, The Home Decluttering Diet, is the perfect companion to the plan! You can find it on Amazon, {plus it’s currently on SALE!} as well as Barnes and Nobles and many other online retailers. While the blog is a great place to get inspiration, I really wanted to create a book that had all of my thoughts and organization ideas in one place and would allow my readers to easily keep referring back to the information that they needed to keep them motivated and encouraged. The book is based on the basic idea of The Household Organization, but is filled with additional organization inspiration, strategies, and simple DIY projects. Think of the book as your ultimate organization text book and the blog as your workbook.

What’s the plan for the decluttering challenge?

To help get you started, I have a daily plan set up to cover pretty much every area of your house. Feel free to just use this as a guideline though. You can really pick and choose whatever areas of your home need the most work. For extra cluttered spots, you may want to spend 2 or 3 days going through things and skip some of the other tasks. It’s all up to you!

Here is the plan that I will be following for this year’s decluttering challenge…

Day 1: Paperwork.

Do you have a pile of paperwork {or two?} collecting on your kitchen counter or in your home office? Go through bills, receipts, and any other paperwork, tossing {or shredding} what you don’t need and sorting whatever is left over into its proper location.

Day 2: Front entry way and coat closet/mudroom.

Donate any coats, shoes, or accessories that you no longer use. If you are short on space, put items that are out of season into storage somewhere else in your home.

Day 3: Purse.

Empty out all garbage and items that you do not use regularly. Sort through any receipts and either put them into paper recycling or file away. Use a small pouch to hold make-up and other essentials that can easily be transferred from purse to purse. Donate any purses that you no longer use or love.

Day 4: Cleaning supplies.

Go through your cleaning supplies {wherever they may be!} and get rid of all of those products that you don’t use. Try to use multipurpose cleaners or green cleaning products whenever possible. If you have multiple partially filled bottles of the same product, combine them into one bottle. Toss any old rags or cloths that are at the end of their use. You can see our organized cleaning cabinet HERE.

Day 5: Fridge and Freezer.

Remove all items from that are expired or you know you will not use. Minimize packaging when possible to save space. Find other organization ideas HERE. Does your fridge need a deep cleaning? You can check out my fridge cleaning tips HERE.

Day 6: Pantry and other dry food storage.

Toss all items that are expired and get rid of anything that you know you will not use. Don’t forget to go through all of those spices too! Place items that will be expiring soon towards the front of the cupboard.

Day 7: Free for All.

This is your catch up day if you didn’t finish any of the above areas. If you’re all caught up, pick the most cluttered area in your home and spend a little extra time there.

Day 8: Kitchen Cabinets.

Look for any kitchen items that you do not use or have room for. Ensure that all Tupperware has matching lids and eliminate as many unnecessary kitchen gadgets, cookbooks, and duplicate utensils as you can. You can see how ours are organized HERE.

Day 9: Medicine Cabinet/First Aid Supplies.

Medicine is actually best stored outside of the bathroom in a cool, dry place out of the reach of children. Go through all medications and look for items that are expired or that you no longer need. Return expired medications to your local pharmacy for proper disposal. Find more ideas HERE.

Day 10: Dining Area.

Commit to keeping your table clutter free. Find storage solutions for all items that frequently find their way to the table. Donate any dishes, serving ware, or other items that you do not use.

Day 11: Entertainment Area.

Make sure all CDs, DVDs etc are in their proper cases and evaluate what you really will use. Music and videos are so easily accessible through our computers and mobile devices, that your CDs and DVDs may be a thing of the past.

Day 12: Magazines and Books.

Let go of your magazine hoarding and get rid of any outdated editions. Cut out pages that you would like to keep and sort into a filing system. Recycle or donate old books that you will no longer read and sort the rest in a logical order.

Day 13: Junk drawer.

Get rid of everything that is not needed. If you have time, use inexpensive plastic containers to store similar items together. Put items that belong elsewhere away.

Day 14: Free for All.

This is your catch up day if you didn’t finish any of the above areas. If you are all caught up, pick the most cluttered area in your home to go through.

Day 15: Desk.

File away any needed paperwork and shred remaining papers. Sort smaller office supplies and only keep products that you use. Get rid of those 2014 calendars!

Day 16: Bathroom cabinets.

Go through all beauty products and keep only what you really use. Do you really need all of those hotel shampoo bottles?

Day 17: Linen closet.

Donate any linens that you no longer use that are still in good condition. Toss any items that are really dingy or have holes.

Day 18: Make-up.

Toss anything that is expired, cracked or no longer your style. Pick your favorites and get rid of those other 10 lipstick tubes that you never wear! To find out more about the recommended shelf-life for various make-up, check out this post on how to organize your makeup.

Day 19: Jewellery.

Sort through all of your jewellery and decide what items you still wear. Donate or toss the rest! If anything you would like to keep needs cleaning or repairs, put them aside to take care of as soon as you can.

Day 20: Bedroom closet.

Sort through all clothing and ask yourself if you would still buy it today. If not, it is time for it to go!

Day 21: Free for All.

This is your catch up day if you didn’t finish any of the above areas. If you are all caught up, pick the most cluttered area in your home to go through.

Day 22: Sock and underwear drawer.

Go through all of those socks and underwear. Make sure you have matching socks with no holes and only keep what you still wear.

Day 23: Nightstand.

Clear off table top and sort through drawers keeping only what you would need before bed or during the night.

Day 24: Kids’ Toys.

This is always a fun one. Sort through toys to see what your kids still use {and have your kids help out on this one if they are old enough}. Check to see that toys have all parts and are in working order before donating or selling. Toss the rest!

Day 25: Kids’ Closets

Check to see what clothes still fit and donate the old ones or sort them into a labeled storage bin if you are saving them for younger children. You can find more kids closet organization tips HERE.

Day 26: Craft space.

Be ruthless and really evaluate what items you still need and use. Schools will often take extra supplies that you are looking to get rid of.

Day 27: Laundry Room.

Sort through cupboards for any laundry products that are old or not used. Toss any unpaired socks that are hanging around.

Day 28: Free for All.

This is your catch up day if you didn’t finish any of the above areas. If you’re all caught up, pick the most cluttered area in your home to go through.

Day 29: Basement.

Chances are this is one of the biggest source of clutter. Set a timer and try to get rid of as many items as possible. Use large storage totes to store seasonal items together.

Day 30: Garage.

This one is also a big clutter offender. Again, set a timer and collect as many items as you can that you no longer use or need.

Day 31: Car.

Grab two bags – one for garbage and one for anything that needs to go back in the house. Put everything away in its proper place that you bring back into the house.

Get a support team.

The best way to stick with any new plan or habit is to find a support team. Try doing this challenge with all of the members of your household, a friend, or an extended family member. And for even more support and inspiration, follow along with Instagram or Facebook and subscribe to my emails {the sign up is right on the side bar!} so you won’t miss a post! There is definitely strength in numbers and I love to hear how things are going for you all! Please email me with any questions you may have or tag me in your social media posts.

Happy Organizing!!

I love the look of gingerbread decor. There’s something just so cozy and nostalgic about it. These cute faux gingerbread ornaments smell amazing and can be used for many Christmases to come. There are so many ways that you can incorporate them into your Christmas decor too. Get creative and have fun with them!

How to Make Faux Gingerbread Ornaments

Supplies

apple sauce

cinnamon

plastic wrap

cookie cutters of choice {I used a couple of sizes of these snowflake cookie cutters}

white puffy fabric paint

twine, ribbon, or clear fishing wire to hang

To Make

Preheat the oven to 200 F.

Using your hands, mix the applesauce and cinnamon together until a smooth ball of dough is formed. If the dough is feeling a little crumbly, you can add a small amount of

Place about 1/3rd of the dough between 2 pieces of plastic wrap and roll into a thin sheet approximately 1/3rd of an inch thick.

Remove the top layer of plastic wrap and cut out dough with the cookie cutters. Repeat as needed until all of the dough has been used.

Place the ornaments on a cookie sheet and use a skewer to make a hole if you would like. For my snowflakes, I chose to wrap them with fishing line to hang instead of making a hole.

Bake for 2 hours and 30 minutes and allow to cool. Ensure that they are loosened from the cookie sheet prior to cooling. {NOTE: If you are doing this for a school project and you don’t have access to an oven, let them air dry for at least 2 days until firm}

Add details with the white puffy paint and allow to dry.

Add baker’s twine or ribbon to hang.

You can make these faux gingerbread ornaments into any shape you would like – gingerbread men, little trees, even gingerbread houses! I can’t wait to make more!
