Scott Pilgrim VS. The World: The Game was a fairly successful video game adaptation of the Scott Pilgrim franchise, so it’s not too surprising that it would receive a sequel. Okay, it would be surprising if Ubisoft released a sequel since they haven’t had their act together in years. Instead, Tribute Games, which consists of some of the original Scott Pilgrim developers, developed and published Scott Pilgrim EX all on its own. The result is a beat ‘em up that feels like a genuine sequel to the first game but surpasses it in nearly every way.

The Raiden Fighters Remix Collection from MOSS and H2 Interactive Co. is out now on PlayStation and Switch, and each game on the collection features 2-player local co-op.

Toaplan is a Japanese developer known for creating lots of beloved shoot 'em up classics like Truxton, Out Zone, and Zero Wing. Most of these games are available in Toaplan Arcade Collection Vol.1 and Vol. 2 on PlayStation and Switch, or sold individually on Steam. Maybe Plain Jane collections aren't good enough for you, though. You want something special! Well, Kyukyoku TigerHeli - Toaplan Arcade Garage has just launched worldwide on PlayStation and Switch (after first appearing in only specific regions). This new collection was developed by M2, and it offers enhanced ports of Tiger Heli and its co-op sequel, Twin Cobra, plus a whole lot more.

Bikkuri Software is a Japanese indie developer that specializes in shoot 'em ups. Those shmups have historically been single-player affairs, but the developer's latest game (published by Henteko Doujin) is called Revolgear Zero, and it supports 2-player local co-op. It even offers the ability to simulate co-op when playing solo in some modes! Fans of 16-bit and 32-bit shoot 'em ups will want to give this one a look.

  • Two main game modes that include 6 different possible endings.

Revolgear Zero

The graphics are certainly gorgeous, and that "God of Cats" mode sounds intriguing. Revolgear Zero is the latest game in the Revolgear series, which dates back to at least 2013. Bikkuri Software and Henteko Doujin have also published the single-player Graze Counter GM on all platforms (including Xbox and PlayStation), so let's hope this game comes to more consoles as well.

Revolgear Zero costs $14.99 on Switch and Steam. The publisher is offering a twenty percent launch discount through March 4.

Nowadays, there are so many old-school console and arcade titles that are impossible to legally own and play on modern platforms. Thankfully, some publishers do strive to rescue and publish classic games for today's audiences - see Super Bomberman Collection for a recent example. Now Limited Run Games is stepping up to the plate with an impressive compilation of its own: MARVEL MaXimum Collection. The collection features a total of 13 games, five of which will support co-op!

One of last summer's most pleasant surprises was the announcement of a new Scott Pilgrim beat 'em up from Tribute Games. Well, time marches on, and Scott Pilgrim EX is soon to launch on consoles and PC. Ahead of that impending launch, players can try the Steam demo (with local co-op) right now... This very minute. Get to it, folks!

The demo begins with Scott and his band, the Sex Bob-Ombs, practicing in the frosty city of Toronto. Hey, I've been there! Anyway, the jam session is interrupted by the arrival of Metal Scott, an evil robot version of Scott Pilgrim. The bad 'bot kidnaps Scott's friends and escapes through a rift. Our hero must give chase and rescue the band!

Scott Pilgrim EX Steam Demo Intro

Two things stand out about the demo: stylish graphics that perfectly capture the look of the Scott Pilgrim comics, and fluid combat. An optional tutorial delivered by Virtual Wallace will teach players most of the game's arsenal of moves. On top of regular and strong attacks, Scott and his co-op partners can grapple foes, wield weapons, and perform flashy super moves. The original Scott Pilgrim VS. The World: The Game wasn't hard to play, but the new game adds some depth that should make for a more enjoyable experience.

Character variety should be a strong point as well. Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, Lucas Lee, and Roxy Richter are all playable in the demo, and the full game will feature a roster of seven cool characters. The soundtrack once again comes from Anamanaguchi, a popular chiptunes band.

Like the first game, Scott Pilgrim EX will support 4-player local and online co-op. Even more excitingly, it will feature cross-play!

Scott Pilgrim EX is coming to Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and Steam on Tuesday, March 3. Grab the demo on Steam ASAP and get ready for a thrilling throwdown!
