If you’re a senior, we’re thinking you won’t be spending as much time on inverted loops, but we could be wrong! Senior Season Passes include all the great perks of our regular Season Pass, at a lower cost, because you’ve earned it! A photo ID is required.

Founded in 1898 as a small trolley park near Pittsburgh, Kennywood Amusement Park is now considered to be one of America's "finest traditional amusement parks." Its collection of old wooden coasters and newer, faster steel coasters also makes it a favorite with roller coaster connoisseurs. Although it features many state-of-the-art rides, Kennywood still retains a nostalgic atmosphere and is a designated national historic landmark.

OPERATING HOURS:

The entrance gates at Kennywood open daily at 10:30 a.m. (rides begin to open at 11:00 a.m.) from mid-May through the third week of August. Closing times vary depending upon weather and crowd conditions, but closing time is generally around 10:00 p.m.The season at Kennywood opens on May 7 for weekends only (May 7-8 and May 14-15) before opening on a daily basis beginning Thursday, May 19, 2011. The daily schedule continues through August 23. After that, Kennywood is open August 27 and 28, September 3-5, 10-11 and 17-18, 2011. September 18 is the last regular operating day for 2011 (and last day for Season Pass admission).

Exceptions to Regular Operating Hours: Friday, May 6 and Tuesday, May 24 are Education Days, with Kennywood closing early at 6:00 p.m. Phantom Fright Nights: Phantom Fright Nights begin Friday, September 30 and run Friday and Saturday nights from 7:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. through October 29, plus Sunday, October 9 (7:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. only).

Admission to Kennywood is via a one-price FunDay pass. The basic cost of the FunDay (ride-all-day) pass is $37.99. For those shorter than 46 inches, a Junior FunDay pass is $24.99. Those 55 and older pay just $18.49 for a Senior FunDay pass. Children 2 and younger can enter and ride for free at any time. General admission without rides is not available.Night Rider Evening Price: Admission after 5:00 p.m. is $21.99 (available at the gate only). Seniors 55+ get in after 5:00 p.m. for just $10.49.

Kennywood Season Pass: Back for 2012, Kennywood Park is offering a Season Pass! Each Kennywood Season Pass is $99.99 per person and includes unlimited trips to Kennywood for the 2011 summer season (excluding Phantom Fright Nights), as well as select Bring a Buddy discount days, $10.00 discount on regular admission to Idlewild & Soak Zone or Sandcastle, and other perks. Quantities are limited so get them early!LOCATION / DIRECTIONS:

Kennywood amusement park is located in West Mifflin, just 12 miles southeast of downtown Pittsburgh on PA 837 along the Monongahela River. From Interstate 376 (which runs from downtown Pittsburgh to Monroeville) you'll get off at the Swissvale Exit (No. 7). Then, just follow the well-marked arrow signs to Kennywood. Preferred parking is $5 per vehicle; the rest of the parking lots are free. PAT bus 61C also stops in the Kennywood parking lot when the park is open.BEST TIMES TO VISIT:

According to the folks at Kennywood, the lightest crowds tend to be on Sundays in May or June, and most weekdays throughout the summer. Memorial Day and the 4th of July are also, surprisingly, not very busy. If you don't mind a few raindrops, then try the park on days when the weather forecast calls for some rain. If the majority of the rides end up having to close for weather for a continuous two hours, Kennywood will offer a free return visit ticket (you'll have to ask at Guest Relations).

The all new Kennywood Season Pass at $89.99 pays for itself in less than three visits!

If you have a student who attends one of the school districts that participates in Kennywood's school picnic program, you can purchase Kennywood School Tickets for just $22.00-- that's a savings of $14.99 off the regular gate price. These School Tickets are valid any operating day in May, June or September plus weekdays in July and August. If presented on a Saturday or Sunday in July or August, a $10 surcharge must be paid. Also available at participating Giant Eagle locations while supplies last.

Founded in 1878 as a simple picnic ground along the Ligonier Valley Railroad, Idlewild & SoakZone is the oldest amusement park in Pennsylvania and third oldest in the United States. Located about 50 miles east of Pittsburgh, Idlewild Amusement Park is located on Route 30 in Ligonier, Pennsylvania. From Pittsburgh, take I376 (Parkway East) to the PA Turnpike to the Irwin Exit (#67). Then east on Route 30 to Ligonier.

RIDES & GAMES:

Popular with families because it rolls amusement park and waterpark into one, Idlewild is broken into several different themed areas.

Olde Idlewild holds most of the traditional amusement rides, including two roller coasters and an antique merry-go-round. Story Book Forest brings favorite story book characters to life in a shady walk-through format.

Based on the popular children's show, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood of Make-Believe features a trolley ride through the famous neighborhood.

Soak Zone features 14 wet, wild water slides and a fun water activity area with tipping cones, hydro soakers, and a large Tipping Bucket that dumps out hundreds of gallons of water. There's a swimming pool, plus a water activity for the little ones too. Captain Kidd's Adventure Galley, features six water slides, crawl tunnels, net climbs, bridges, a giant tipping bucket and plenty of water spray features. ALL NEW FOR 2013, Float Away Bay offers a classic way to chill in the sun aboard a tube while floating down a lazy river.

Geared toward children, Jumpin' Jungle is a giant shady play area full of ropes, ladders, nets, slides and a ball pit. Nearby Raccoon Lagoon is filled with rides and children's shows designed for children. Hootin' Holler emulates a turn-of-the-century mining town, complete with the Loyalhanna Limited Railroad, the Paul Bunyan's Loggin' Toboggan water ride, and the Mine Shaft Kitchen with a variety of food choices.

Here's a few helpful hints for you to keep you new scooter running great for years to come....

Scooter Maintenance:

Scooter maintenance is pretty important. It's even more important than on a car because the engine has to work harder and component failure can more easily lead to loss of control.Perhaps the most important and easiest item of maintenance is to regularly check the oil level and change the oil at frequent intervals. I think changing the oil at least every 1000 miles is a good idea. The oil capacity is less than 1 liter and so an oil change costs about $3 and takes about 5 minutes. It's cheap insurance to keep your engine running for as long as possible. My manual recommends changing the transmission oil every 2000 miles or 6 months. Since it only takes about about 100ml of oil (which costs under $1) and takes a couple of minutes to do, don't skimp on transmission oil changes. I use Castrol 10-30W engine oil and Castrol 80/90 transmission gear oil. Which oil you use is less important than how often you change it, though I'd probably avoid using pure synthetic oil in a scooter, especially during the break in period. Once you have several thousand miles on the engine, a synthetic blend may be OK, but you should still change the oil regularly.For details on how to change your oil see the Scooter Oil Change page.Checking tire pressure regularly is also very important. Unlike a car, a scooter only has two wheels and tire problems can lead more easily to a loss of control and possible injury, so making sure your tire pressures are correct makes sense.Though a standard maintenance schedule calls for checking bolt tightness every 1000 miles or 6 months, it certainly doesn't hurt to do it more frequently.With any luck your "manual" will have a maintenance schedule in it, but if it doesn't here's the very minimum that you should do: Every 250 miles or every month:
Check engine oil level
Check tire pressure
Check lights and horn
Check battery level
Every 1000 miles or every 6 months
Change engine oil (details here)
Check tires for wear
Check valve stems for splits or cracks
Check brakes and throttle operation. Lubricate cables if required
Check all screws nuts and bolts and tighten. Especially check muffler and exhaust fasteners and front and rear axles
Every 2000 miles or every year
Change the transmission oil (details here)
Check and adjust valve clearance
Clean air cleaner
Check and clean (or replace) spark plug
Check brake linings.
Check/clean/lubricate brake and throttle cables.
Check CVT drive belt for wear and cracks
Check wheel and steering bearings
Though not exactly maintenance, I'd recommend carrying a basic tool kit at all times. That would include the following items:
3/8" drive metric socket set
Flat blade and Phillips head screwdrivers
Roll of electrical tape
Roll of duct tape
Pair of pliers
Pair or wirecutters
Flashlight (LED type for long battery life)
Short length of wire
Set of metric wrenches
Short length of fuel/vacuum hose
Spark plug wrench and spare spark plug
A few nylon cable ties
