Our Verdict

Excellent deal for Ulta purchases. As always, keep in mind that Capital One Shopping portal does not require having a Capital One card or bank account. Also remember that the rewards are not cash but rather they cash out as gift cards for various brands.

Bank of America Offering $175 Retention Offers

This is not new (Chuck posted about it back in 2023) but seems some people are unware but Bank of America is offering retention offers of $175 when you spend $1,500 within three months. Interestingly it seems that these offers are being extended to cards without an annual fee and the chat bot is able to extend the retention offer.

Ask chatbot to close credit card
Go through steps until you see the offer OR it says submit (submitting will close the card)

We do have a post about retention offers and tips although it’s 11 years old so probably needs some updating. Before closing any card it’s always a good idea to see if you can get a retention offer.

Not Using A Rideshare Credit? You Can Tip Past Drivers

Reddit user SquareImperfect has shared a tip for unused monthly rideshare credits (e.g American Express Delta Gold). If for some reason you’re unable to use the credit that month you can add an extra tip for a previous ride that was up to 30 days in the past. Not as good as the Instacart tip where you can donate unused credits to charity but better than it going to waste entirely. Have any other good uses for unused credits? The Fine Print

The $300 Gift Card bonus offer is available, at the eligible locations, for new 1st Source Bank Cubs 1st Club or Easy Banking Club personal checking accounts opened by December 31, 2018.
Required for gift card is a minimum opening balance of $50; and the setup and initial deposit of an ACH direct deposit of at least $250, each within 65 days of the account opening.

Avoiding Fees

Easy Banking Club has a $15 monthly fee, this is waived An ongoing, monthly ACH direct deposit in the amount of at least $250 (must be paycheck, pension, Social Security or other government benefit). There is a $25 early account termination fee if the account is closed within 180 days of opening.

Our Verdict

It seems like the online account opening is still really in branch, I’d personally just open in branch directly as I think you will have a lot less issues that way. Overall a nice big bonus, although the monthly fee is annoying to avoid as it requires a direct deposit. I’ll add this to our list of the best checking bonuses once we can confirm it’s a soft pull.

The Offer

The Square Cash Debit Card is now offering all customers something called ‘Cash Boost’. Basically you choose one place or category to earn cash back in. Some examples:
- $1 off at coffee shops ($1.5 minimum spend)
- $1 off at Subway ($1.5 minimum spend)
- 5% off at Whole Foods
- 10% off at Chick-fil-A
- 15% off at Chipotle
- 10% off at Panera
- 15% off at Shake Shack
You can change your boost once every 24 hours and you can use it once every 2 hours

Our Verdict

They tested a similar feature on a small subset of users, offering $1.5 back at coffee shops. $1 back at coffee shops is still great though, especially since those transactions are usually small and frequent (e.g daily cup) rather than one large purchase less often. Quite sad that this debit card has a better rewards program than the Chase Starbucks card. You should also still be able to get a $10 bonus for sending money via Square cash the first time.

The Fine Print

To qualify, you must be a new FMB business checking client. Existing business checking customers or those who have closed an FMB business checking account within 12 months of the offer start date (on or after 3/1/26) are not eligible.
The primary account holder must be at least 18 years old. FMB employees are not eligible. This offer is limited to one per client and is not valid for Public Funds, Estate accounts, U.S. Government entities, other banks, or financial institutions.
To earn this offer you must ask an FMB banker to enroll you in the “MICH-BUS Checking Offer” when opening a new Basic Business Checking account between 3/1/26, and 12/31/26.
