How to get the most from your Apple smartphone

APPLE HAS ADMITTED to a battery life fault affecting the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus handsets. The problem, which occurs when the time or time zone on the handset is changed manually, sees the iPhone's battery percentage level stop updating, fooling owners into thinking that they have more juice left than they actually have.

With this in mind, we've rounded up six of the best tricks for extending the battery life of your iPhone as, let's be honest, even without this latest problem, the Apple smartphone isn't known for its stellar battery capacity.

Turn down brightness

The iPhone 6S has almost as many pixels as an 11in MacBook Air with its 4.7in 750x1334 326ppi display, so it will come as little surprise that the screen is the biggest drain on the battery.

You can change the vibrancy of the display to get around this. A quick way is to turn down brightness using the slider in Control Centre, accessed by swiping up from the bottom of the display. You should also go to Settings > Display and Brightness to make sure you have the Auto Brightness feature switched off, as this will stop your handset cranking the brightness levels back up.

Switch off parallax

Parallax is a feature introduced in iOS 7 that adds depth perception and 3D effects to the iPhone's display. This makes some people feel seasick, but it's probably also having a detrimental effect on battery life given that it constantly uses your iPhone's graphics processor.

Thankfully, it can be switched off. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > and switch on Reduce Motion to temporarily turn off all the parallax effects.

Disable location services

One of the biggest battery draining features of any smartphone is the location-tracking crap that apps load onto them. If you want to save some extra juice - and your privacy - this feature can be switched off by going to Settings > Privacy > Location Services.

If there are some apps you want to be able to use your location, such as Apple Maps, there's also the option to switch off the feature on a per-app basis.

Stop quitting all of your apps

Yep, we all do it, but quitting all of your apps from the multitasking menu doesn't actually increase battery life. When you do this - by double tapping the Home button and swiping upwards on open apps - it means you take it out of RAM, which in turn means that when you open it again the iPhone has to load it back into memory.

Put it face down

Disabling Notifications is an obvious way to extend your battery life, and you can do so by simply placing your iPhone 6S face down on a surface. As soon as you do this, iOS 9 stops the screen lighting up when you receive a notification of any kind. You will be notified instead via sound or vibration.

Low Power Mode

Apple introduced a new feature in iOS 9 called Low Power Mode that promises to take some of the pain out of trying to extend your iPhone's battery, and the firm claims that it will provide three extra hours of life.

Unfortunately, the battery-saving feature doesn't save itself on, and you'll instead have to do it manually if you fear you're going to run out of juice. Go to Settings > Battery > Low Power Mode. AT A GLANCE

The iPhone 5se is rumored to be the name of Apple's upcoming 4-inch iPhone. It is said to look similar to an iPhone 5s, but with slightly curved cover glass and some upgraded internal specs, including an A9 processor and support for Apple Pay.

What to expect?

Since the launch of the 4.7 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in September of 2014, there have been rumors suggesting Apple plans to introduce a new 4-inch device aimed at those who want something both more affordable and smaller in size. Despite rumors, no new device materialized in 2015, but as of 2016, rumors have ramped up and it appears a new 4-inch iPhone will launch in March of 2016 at an event to be held on the 21st.

For several months, rumors about the 4-inch iPhone were all over the place, perhaps as Apple itself worked to solidify a design and internal specs. With parts for the device now in production ahead of the March launch, we're getting a clearer picture of what we can expect from the 4-inch iPhone.

Said to be called the "iPhone 5se" or simply the "iPhone SE," the new device is modeled after the iPhone 5s. The name is meant to denote its position as a second-generation upgraded version of the iPhone 5s. Earlier rumors about the 4-inch iPhone said it could be similar to the iPhone 5c, leading the media to refer to 4-inch device as the "iPhone 6c" over the past year, but that name was later abandoned in favor of iPhone 5se or iPhone SE. iPhone 6c, iPhone 5se, and iPhone SE rumors refer to the same 4-inch device Apple is developing.

Rumors suggest the iPhone 5se will be the close in size and shape to the iPhone 5s, with the same general dimensions. It will include a display that curves slightly at the edges, but the curve is said to be less dramatic than the curved display on Apple's newest devices.

When taking into account all of the different rumors we've heard, the iPhone 5se may be on par with Apple's larger-screened devices when it comes to performance, but it's not going to share all of the same features as Apple's flagship devices. Internally, the iPhone 5se is likely to have the same A9 processor used in the iPhone 6s, but it may be limited to 1GB RAM and it may only come in 16 and 64GB capacities, with no 128GB option.

The iPhone 5se is rumored to include the 12-megapixel rear camera found in the iPhone 6s. It will include improved autofocusing, support for larger panoramas, and the ability to capture Live Photos. While it can take Live Photos, the iPhone 5se will not be receiving 3D Touch because 3D Touch is a flagship feature in the iPhone 6s.

Like all of Apple's recent iPhones, the iPhone 5se will include an NFC chip and Touch ID to support the company's Apple Pay payment service. It will also include the latest iPhone features like Bluetooth 4.2, fast 802.11ac WiFi, and VoLTE. Rumors suggest it could have a 1,624 mAh battery, which is larger than the battery in the iPhone 5s.

The iPhone 5se will be available in the same colors as the iPhone 5s, offered in Silver, Gold, and Space Gray, along with a possible Rose Gold option. As for pricing, rumors suggest the entry-level device could be priced at $400 to $500.

Apple's new 4-inch iPhone is expected to launch in the spring, at an event that will take place on Monday, March 21.

Design Drawings and Mockups

A set of iPhone 5se mockups based on information sourced from accessory makers depicts a design that is very similar to the iPhone 5s. The dimensions for both phones are said to be the same, measuring in at approximately 123.8mm tall, 58.6mm wide, and 7.6mm thick.

One of the mockups (above) depicts an iPhone 5se body that is almost identical to the iPhone 5s, while another (below) features a body melding iPhone 5s design elements with design elements taken from the iPhone 6, such as the curved cover glass and a slightly protruding rear camera.

The differences between the two separate iPhone 5se concepts can be seen clearly in renderings created by designer Martin Hajek. The image below compares a mockup made by 9to5Mac and a mockup made by OnLeaks (both designed from independently sourced information). Also included is a rendering designed by Curved Labs, which is purely fictional and not based on actual information about the device.

Rumors about the iPhone 5se have indicated it will be of a similar size and shape to the iPhone 5s, with the two even able to share cases, but that information doesn't line up with rumors suggesting it will have a curved display, a feature that would result in an iPhone 6-style design. Taking all of the different rumors into account, we commissioned a set of renderings based on the OnLeaks drawing that combines a curved front display with an iPhone 5s-sized body. It is not clear if this is the design the iPhone 5se will adopt, but it is our best estimation of what it might look like based on current rumors.

We've heard plenty of rumors about the iPhone 5se's design, but we have seen no part leaks that depict the back of the device, which is another factor that contributes to uncertainty about its look. With no visual evidence, it's still difficult to determine whether the iPhone 5se is an iPhone 5s clone or if it features a fresh design that takes cues from multiple devices.

An exact design for the 4-inch iPhone isn't yet pinned down, but rumors seem to agree that it will include a pill-shaped flash as on the iPhone 5s and a power button located at the top of the device. It will reportedly come in standard iPhone colors -- Silver, Space Gray, Rose Gold, and Gold.

Apple's new 4-inch iPhone is expected to launch in the spring, at an event that will take place on Monday, March 21.

This story gets better the more you read. An inmate at DuPage County, Illinois, wants to be released within 14 days. He says that unless his the personal effects taken from him during his July 2015 arrest are retuned within that period, he will leave prison in a huff and moan a lot.

Ignatius "Michael" Pollara, 50, of Tamarac, Florida, wants returned his three pairs of underwear, a "Mr. Froggy" plush animal and concert tickets.

Mr Pollara is being held on $125,000 bail on a burglary charge, accused of stealing several paintbrushes and a box of pencils from a Lombard Hobby Lobby store.

Pollara argued in court on Thursday, against the advice of Assistant Public Defender Mark Lyon, that the Oak Brook Police Department's "negligence and carelessness" in failing to safely store his items has deprived him of his due process. In a written motion, Pollara also demanded to be discharged from jail within 14 days if the items are not returned. DuPage Judge Brian Telander warned Pollara that his antics frequently come close to trying his patience. But he also asked prosecutors to try to find Pollara's missing property not considered to be evidence.

Oak Brook police Sgt. Ben Kadolph said on Thursday afternoon his department has "a lot of property" taken during Pollara's arrest, including a stuffed animal. "We have several boxes of stuff that was taken as evidence in this and possibly other cases," Kadolph said. "And we have a box of his personal property." In the motion filed on Feb. 10, Pollara identified the missing items he wants returned. Included in his list were a backpack and a suitcase, a laptop computer, several clothing items, "one Hearst Castle plush blanket," "tickets to U2 and Grateful Dead concerts" and "one stuffed 'Mr. Froggy' plush animal with tag"…

"I think I've been here long enough for two paint brushes and a bag of pencils," he said, before being warned by a deputy to calm down and lower his voice.

After waiting hours on line or waiting patiently at home for your order to be delivered, you finally have the new iPhone 6 or 6 Plus in the palm (or palms) of your hand. But you may have noticed that the latest iOS 8 software is draining the battery life out of your Apple device.

The software update— which can also be downloaded on older Apple devices— includes new features that make the operating system work harder, which in turn sucks up more battery. Unlike older models, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus that run on iOS 8 are less likely to suffer from this problem because of stronger batteries. But no matter what iPhone you have, it's still a good idea to know how to keep battery use efficient. Here are some ways to preserve your iPhones battery life so that you do not face the fatal situation of a dying phone.

1. Identify what is draining the battery

The updates to iOS 8 allow Apple users to see a breakdown of what apps are using the most power. To find which apps have been draining your devices battery over the last 24 and up to a week, go to Settings > General > Usage > Battery Usage. Close the applications or delete any that are not needed.

This feature may take some time to start working if your iPhone is new because it needs enough data to pull from. Let your new phone run for a few hours first.

2. Turn off location-tracking apps

When you are in need of GPS directions, location-tracking apps are a necessity. However, tracking each move you make is one of the phone's biggest battery drainers. The updated iOS 8 allows users to select a "While Using" option for some apps like Facebook, which will let you see locations for nearby friends when the app is open.

To monitor this feature, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services. Apple users can still leave on functions like Find My iPhone from this menu. Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Share My Location, to turn off another battery draining feature. Just turn it back on when you want to share your current location through messages.

You can also turn off your Wi-Fi from the Settings menu, which can save battery life when you aren't using your phone.

3. Manage notification widgets

Apple users can access the Notification Center easily by pulling down the menu from the top of the screen and customizing your 'Today' view. These widgets include weather updates and sports scores, which can use up some valuable battery life. You can now select which widgets you want to turn off by tapping the "Edit" menu.

You can also go into Settings > Notifications and scroll through to turn off notifications from apps like Netflix.

4. Turn off Handoff

Handoff allows Apple users to seamlessly move from device to device, such as when you are writing an email and switch off between your iPhone and iPad. If you are not planning on multitasking between devices, turn off this battery draining feature by going to Settings > General > Handoff & Suggested Apps.

5. Stop fetching

The fetching function pushes email notifications to your home screen, a process that drains your battery. Instead, manually check your email and turn off this feature by going to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data.

Other more obvious ways to get the most battery life out of your new iPhone is to turn down the brightness in Control Center by going to Settings > Wallpapers & Brightness and disabling Auto-Brightness. Apple Watch has been on sale for almost a year, with new models added to the line up a few months back in September 2015. There are numerous models to choose from, with three main ranges available, two sizes in each range and multiple straps, making choosing the right one for you quite tricky.

With the additional models, there are now 12 models to choose from in the Watch Sport range alone, 20 models in the Watch range, eight models in the Watch Edition range and 10 models in a new Hermès range. Yes, 50 standard models in total, and if you mix and match by adding extra straps to the first three ranges, this figure quickly goes up.

Of course, it doesn't just come down to which model you like the best in terms of the design because the one we like the most costs over £10,000. And no, we aren't joking. This feature aims to make it easy for you to see what models are available, how much they cost and what the differences are between them all in order to find the right one for you and your budget.

Apple Watch Sport

The most affordable of the three ranges is the Apple Watch Sport. It costs £299 for the 38mm version and £339 for the 42mm version.

There are 12 models available comprising of four aluminium body colours, 38mm or 42mm sizes and various straps that come with respective models. All the Apple Watch Sport models come with a Sports Band included in the price, but you are restricted to the band Apple choose with each model.

For example, the new rose gold 38mm model comes with a Lavender Sports Band. If you wanted a White Sports Band or another colour instead, you'd have to pay extra £39, rather than swap it out.

Apple Watch

The Apple Watch models are the mid-range Apple Watch, opting for stainless steel body over the Sport's aluminium. The Apple Watch models start at £479 for the 38mm model and £519 for the 42mm version, both of which come with a Sports Band as the strap.

As we mentioned, there are 20 models available in total and as with the Apple Watch Sport, if you want a different strap, you'll have to pay more. For example, a Classic Buckle or Milanese Loop rather than a Sports Band will set you back £559 for the 38mm and £599 for the 42mm.

Top of the Apple Watch range is the 42mm Space Black stainless steel case with a Space Black Link Bracelet, which costs £949.

Apple Watch Edition

The Apple Watch Edition is the most expensive of the Apple Watch models available and as we said, it comes in eight models. The cheapest in this range is the 38mm 18-carat rose gold model that comes with a Sports Band and costs £8,000 in the UK, while the 42mm model costs £9,500.

Interestingly, the priciest models of this range are both 38mm options rather than 42mm. There is an 18-carat yellow gold model and an 18-carat rose gold model in both 38mm and 42mm but there is a £1,500 price difference.

The 38mm options come with Modern Buckles in Bright Red and Rose Grey respectively, while the 42mm models come with Classic Buckles in Black and Midnight Blue respectively. Despite the 42mm normally costing more however, the 38mm models are £13,500, while the 42mm are £12,000.

Apple Watch Hermès

The Apple Watch Hermès is only available in selected locations and as you may have guessed from the name, it is a specifically-designed Apple Watch that has been created in collaboration with Paris fashion brand Hermès.

There are 10 models to choose from, as we mentioned, and along with a special Hermès watch face, the Apple Watch Hermès models also feature leather straps handmade by the fashion company's artisans in France. Each Apple Watch Hermès has the Hermès logo on the underside of the watch body, as well as on the strap. You can read our hands-on here.

There is the Double Tour model for the 38mm size only, which comes in four strap colours and wraps twice around the wrist. The Single Tour model comes in 38mm and 42mm options, with the 42mm available in two colours and the 38mm in three colours. The last model is the Cuff, which is only available in 42mm and the Fauve colour. It features a strap within a strap. Prices start at £1,000 with the most expensive Apple Watch Hermès hitting £1,350 so significantly less than the Apple Watch Edition, but a little pricier than the mid-range.

Straps

There are six straps available for the Apple Watch, each of which is compatible with all three of the main ranges.

The cheapest is the elastomer Sport Band that comes in 16 colours and costs £39. The Milanese Loop, which is a flexible magnetic stainless steel mesh, costs £129, as does the traditional-designed Classic

Buckle that comes in two colours.

The Leather Loop is a soft, quilted leather that conceals magnets for quick fastening and adjustment. It comes in four colours and also costs £129, but it is only available for the 42mm model. The alternative for the 38mm is the Modern Buckle with two-piece magnetic closure that also comes in four colours but it's a little more expensive at £209.

The most expensive strap is the 316L stainless steel alloy with custom butterfly closure Link Bracelet, which comes in black and silver, and costs £379.

Best Apple Watch and strap combinations

Let's quickly do the maths: the cheapest Apple Watch Sport is £299 (38mm) and the cheapest strap that isn't a Sports Band is £129, a total of £428. That's £50 cheaper than the most affordable Apple Watch, which starts at £479 (38mm) and also has the Sports Band.

If you can live with the aluminium body rather than stainless steel, then the Sport is cheapest route and with the newer aluminium colours, it's an appealing route now too. For example, you could get the 38mm rose gold Apple Watch Sport with Modern Buckle for £508, which is a lot cheaper than the £13,500 lookalike. Granted the materials aren't as premium, but we're talking about £13,000 extra dollar in your pocket here.

Another good combination is the Space Black Apple Watch Sport 42mm with the Space Black Link Bracelet. The body costs £339 and the strap, which is now sold separately costs £449, for a total of £788. The black stainless steel option costs a total of £949 with the Space Black Link Bracelet so you save around £160 opting for aluminium over stainless steel.

The Watch Sport and its additional colours make the Apple Watch more accessible, but be prepared for splashing some cash if you want to upgrade it with a more premium strap as they don't come cheap and are therefore the Sport isn't always the better option.

What are all the differences between the iPhone 5 and the iPod touch 5th Gen?

Please note that the iPhone 5 and iPod touch 5th Gen models have been discontinued. However, this Q&A has been updated with current iOS support details and is quite useful for anyone buying or selling either of these devices on the used market.

With a quick glance at any iPhone 5 model -- the iPhone 5 (GSM/North America), (GSM/CDMA), (GSM/International), (CDMA China), or (GSM AWS/North America) -- or an iPod touch 5th Gen model -- the iPod touch 5th Gen (32 GB/64 GB), (16 GB/No iSight), or 16 GB (2014/iSight) -- it would be easy to mistake the devices for one another.

Of course, the iPhone 5 provides mobile phone capabilities and the iPod touch 5th Gen does not, but there are many more major and subtle differences alike that are well worth evaluating in detail.

External Housing Differences

From the above photos, it is clear that the iPod touch 5th Gen (on the left) and the iPhone 5 (on the right) look quite similar apart from color scheme. In fact, the two devices share a 4" (diagonal) widescreen "Retina" display with a 1136x640 native resolution (326 ppi). However, the housings are quite different from one another.

The iPhone 5 models only were issued in demure dark gray "slate" with a black glass front or silver with a white glass front.

By contrast, the subsequent 16 GB and 32 GB and 64 GB iPod touch 5th Gen (A1421) models were issued in six different "fun" color choices -- gray (which has a black glass front) along with silver, pink, yellow, blue, and red (which have white glass fronts).

For those interested in minutiae, in addition to the more colorful options, the 32 GB and 64 GB iPod touch 5th Gen configurations originally were offered in a dark gray "slate" and this was replaced with a medium colored gunmetal "space gray" on September 10, 2013. The subsequently introduced 16 GB configuration just was available in space gray along with its more colorful brethren.

The 16 GB iPod touch 5th Gen (A1509) only was sold with a black glass front and a silver back.

Although both devices use anodized aluminum "unibody" housings, the iPhone 5 models have essentially flat sides with "diamond cut" chamfered aluminum around the edge and an aluminum back with glass portions at the top and bottom to allow mobile and data signals to penetrate the case. The iPod touch 5th Gen models have almost an entirely aluminum back with gently rounded sides and a small plastic cutout in the upper right hand corner for signal penetration.

The A1421 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB iPod touch 5th Gen models also have a pop out "nub" in the lower left hand corner to attach an "iPod touch loop" (sold separately for the 16 GB model) whereas the A1509 16 GB iPod touch 5th Gen without a rear camera and the iPhone 5 do not accommodate this wrist strap.

Although the overall dimensions are similar, the iPod touch 5th Gen is 20% thinner and when combined with the gently tapered edges, the result "feels" significantly thinner than the iPhone 5. In fact, the iPod touch 5th Gen is so thin that the camera lens "pokes out" from the case enough that it doesn't lay flat on a table.

Both devices also include Apple's "EarPods" headphones, but the iPhone 5 EarPods have an integrated microphone and inline remote whereas the iPod touch 5th Gen has a cheaper variant that lacks the microphone and remote capabilities.

Camera Differences

There are significant camera differences between the iPhone 5 and the iPod touch 5th Gen models.

The iPhone 5 has two cameras -- a front-mounted 1.2 megapixel 720p "FaceTime HD" camera and a rear-mounted 8 megapixel 1080p "iSight" camera.

The 16 GB and 32 GB and 64 GB configurations (A1421) of the iPod touch 5th Gen also have two cameras -- the same front-mounted 1.2 megapixel 720p "FaceTime HD" camera as the iPhone 5, but it has a lower quality rear-mounted 5 megapixel 1080p "iSight" camera.

The lower-end 16 GB iPod touch 5th Gen (A1509) also has the same front-mounted 720p "FaceTime HD" camera, but it does not have a rear camera at all.

Identification Differences

Although the iPhone 5 and iPod touch 5th Gen models are simple to differentiate when they are side-by-side, specific identification details still can be useful when the devices are not next to one another. The easiest external identifier to use is the Model Number listed in small type on the back of each device toward the bottom.

There are five different iPhone 5 models, and precise differentiation is complicated, but for the purpose of this Q&A, they can be collectively identified by the A1428, A1429, and A1442 model numbers.

The 16 GB and 32 GB and 64 GB iPod touch 5th Gen models with dual cameras share model number A1421 whereas the discontinued 16 GB iPod touch 5th Gen without a rear camera is model number A1509.

Everyi.com's Ultimate iLookup feature -- as well as the EveryMac app for iOS 5 or later, Android, and Kindle Fire -- also can identify these iPhone and iPod touch models by Order Number (launch the Settings app and then select General > About and finally scroll down to what is referred to as "Model" in the iOS). For example, the 16 GB iPod touch 5th Gen without a rear camera is ME643LL/A.

Both the site and EveryMac app additionally can identify these devices by their Serial Numbers, as well.

Internal & Technical Differences

Internally, the iPhone 5 and iPod touch 5th Gen models have little in common other than storage capacity options and shared support for 802.11a/b/g/n (including both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies of 802.11n) and Bluetooth 4.0.

Different iPhone 5 models support differing cellular connectivity, but all have cellular capabilities (voice, text, and data, on basic terms), whereas the iPod touch 5th Gen models do not. The iPhone 5 also supports GPS and GLONASS and have a compass, whereas the iPod touch 5th Gen models do not.

The iPod touch 5th Gen models have a 1 GHz dual-core A5 processor and 512 MB of RAM whereas the iPhone 5 has a much faster dual core 1.3 GHz Apple A6 processor and 1 GB of RAM.

iOS Support Differences

Both the iPhone 5 and the iPod touch 5th Gen models fully support iOS 6 and iOS 7. The iPhone 5 fully supports iOS 8 and iOS 9, but as they do not have cellular capability, the iPod touch 5th Gen models do not support the Instant Hotspot, Phone Calls (from Mac), or SMS features. The iPod touch 5th Gen also does not support Transit running iOS 9.

However, altough the iPhone 5 is fully supported, it is significantly slower running iOS 9 than iOS 8

As the iPod touch 5th Gen is substantially less powerful than the iPhone 5, with a slower processor and half the RAM, iOS 9 definitely is slower than iOS 8 or iOS 7 on this device, as well. If performance is most important to you, it would be best to run iOS 7 on the iPod touch 5th Gen. However, this unfortunately means that the most up-to-date apps will not work. Note that if any of these devices have been updated to a later version of the iOS it is not simple to "downgrade" to an earlier version without resorting to "jailbreaks" or other hacks, either.

Historically, also note that Apple tends to discontinue iOS support more quickly for the iPod touch than the iPhone, at least partially because the iPod touch generally is less powerful than iPhone models available at the same time. It is a reasonably safe bet that this pattern will continue and Apple will support the iPhone 5 longer than the iPod touch 5th Gen. In fact, it seems unlikely that the iPod touch 5th Gen will support the next version of the iOS.

Pricing Differences

Originally, the 16 GB iPod touch 5th Gen without a rear camera was US$229 and the 32 GB and 64 GB iPod touch 5th Gen models with dual cameras were US$299 and US$399, respectively.

On June 26, 2014, Apple discontinued the 16 GB iPod touch without the rear camera, replaced it with a 16 GB iPod touch with a rear camera for US$199 and lowered the price of the 32 GB and 64 GB iPod touch 5th Gen configurations to US$249 and US$299, respectively. These remaining iPod touch 5th Gen models were discontinued on July 15, 2015.

The iPhone 5 models originally were available for US$199, US$299, or US$399 -- with 16 GB, 32 GB, or 64 GB of storage, respectively -- locked to a mobile phone company with a two-year service contract. Unlocked and contract free, the iPhone 5 models were originally US$649, US$749, and US$849. The iPhone 5 was discontinued on September 10, 2013.

Friday the 13th: 13 Facts About the Unluckiest Day in the Calendar

1. It's Unclear Why It Is Feared
Very little is known about the origins of the day's notoriety. Some historians believe that the superstitions surrounding it arose in the late 19th century. The first documented mention of the day can be found in a biography of Italian composer Gioachino Rossini, who died on a Friday 13th. A 1907 book, Friday the Thirteenth, by American businessman Thomas Lawson may have further perpetuated the superstition.
Others believe that the myth has Biblical origins. Jesus was crucified on a Friday and there were 13 guests at the Last Supper the night before his crucifiction.
Another account suggests that the day has been associated with misfortune since 1307, when on a Friday the 13th, the French king gave the orders to arrest hundreds of Knights Templar.

2. Yet, the Fear is Very Real
So real that one scientific name wasn't enough. The fear of Friday the 13th is also called friggatriskaidekaphobia or paraskevidekatriaphobia. Now say that 10 times really fast!
Friggatriskaidekaphobia comes from Frigg, the Norse goddess of wisdom after whom Friday is named, and the Greek words triskaideka, meaning 13, and phobia, meaning fear. Paraskevidekatriaphobia is also derived from Greek: paraskeví translates as Friday, and dekatria is another way of saying 13.

3. ..And Very Common!
Experts say that friggatriskaidekaphobia affects millions of people and estimate that businesses, especially airlines suffer from severe losses on Friday the 13th.
Triskaidekaphobia, or the fear of the number 13 is even more widespread. So much so that many high rise buildings, hotels and hospitals skip the 13th floor and many airports do not have gates numbered 13. In many parts of the world, having 13 people at the dinner table is considered bad luck.

4. Friday the 13th Can Come in Threes
A bit of a bad news for all of you who suffer from friggatriskaidekaphobia – all years will have at least one Friday the 13th. The good news is that there cannot be more than three Friday the 13ths in any given calendar year. The longest one can go without seeing a Friday the 13th is 14 months.

5. Blame Sunday
For a month to have a Friday the 13th, the month must begin on a Sunday. Don't believe us? Check out our Calendars and test it for yourself.

6. Friday the 13th Patterns Repeat in the Calendar
There is a calendaric method to the madness of Friday the 13th. Whenever a common year begins on a Thursday, the months of February, March and November will have a Friday the 13th. This will happen 11 times in the 21st century.
The February-March-November pattern repeats in a 28 year cycle. In the 21st century, the cycle began in 2009. In 2015, 6 years later, Friday the 13th will occur in February, March and November. This won't happen for 11 more years until 2026 and we'll have to wait again for 11 years until 2037 to see the February, March and November trilogy. This pattern will repeat itself starting 2043, 6 years after 2037.

7. Even During Leap Years
Three Friday the 13ths can occur in a leap year as well. If January 1 of a leap year falls on a Sunday, the months of January, April and July will each have a Friday the 13th.
In the 20th century, this happened in 1928, 1956 and 1984. And in the 21st century this will happen four times in 2012, 2040, 2068, 2096. Notice something interesting? Yes, it is the 28 year cycle again!

8. Fittingly Alfred Hitchcock Was Born on the 13th
The master of suspense was born on August 13, 1899 – so Friday, August 13, 1999 would have been his 100th birthday. He made his directorial debut in 1922 with a movie called Number 13. Unfortunately, the film was doomed from the start and never got off the ground due to financial troubles.
Other celebrities and well-known personalities born on a Friday the 13th include actors Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, novelist and playwright, Samuel Beckett and former President of Cuba, Fidel Castro.

9. It's an Unlucky Day Only For Some
Friday the 13th is not universally seen as a day of misery. For example, in Italy, Friday the 17th and not Friday the 13th is considered to be a day that brings bad luck. In fact, the number 13 is considered to be a lucky number!
In many Spanish speaking countries and in Greece, Tuesday the 13th is seen as a day of misfortune.

10. And Research Suggests That It May Not be Unlucky After All
There is very little evidence to show that Friday the 13th is indeed an unlucky day. Many studies have shown that Friday the 13th has little or no effect on events like accidents, hospital visits and natural disasters.

11. The Day Inspired One of the Highest Grossing Film Series
The commercially successful Friday the 13th enterprise includes 12 horror movies, a television series and several books that focus on curses and superstitions. Even though the films and the television series consistently received negative reviews from critics, they have a huge following. The mask worn by the key character in the films, Jason Voorhees, is one of the most known images in popular culture.

12. And a Country to Raise Safety and Accident Awareness
Since 1995, Finland has dedicated one Friday the 13th in a year to observe National Accident Day. The day aims to raise awareness about safety – on the roads, at home and at the workplace.

13. An Asteroid Will Safely Fly By the Earth in 2029
On a Friday the 13th! Friday, April the 13th, 2029 to be exact. When 99942 Apophis was discovered in 2004, it was thought to have a small chance of colliding with Earth. But you can rest easy because since then, scientists have revised their findings which show that there is absolutely no risk of the asteroid impacting the Earth or the Moon.

Now that Apple has finally announced the iPhone 6s, answers to the big 'should I upgrade now or wait for another year?' question start to emerge. As is now tradition, the 'tock' of Apple's tick-tock update cycle sees the iPhone 6s retain the same design as its predecessor, but with some key upgrades.

As you can see from the spec box on the right, on the surface very little has changed for the new iPhone 6s. But the 3D Touch technology is what really separates the two handsets. Apple has implemented 3D Touch into almost every aspect of iOS 9 – and feedback from the iPhone 6s' haptic engine (vibration motor) has been tuned to be more accurate.
It is disappointing to see Apple sticking with 16GB of storage for the base model of the iPhone 6s, when sure an increase to 32GB isn't too much to ask – especially since that is what you get from Samsung and Sony these days.

iPhone 6s vs iPhone 6: Display
The biggest different between the iPhone 6 and new iPhone 6s is their screens. They both measure 4.7in and have a resolution of 750 x 1334, but the major update here is 3D Touch. A development of Force Touch on the Apple Watch and newest MacBooks, 3D Touch knows how much pressure you are putting on the screen. This gives developers a whole new set of gestures to work and make their applications (and games) react to.
Apple has embedded 3D Touch deeply into the new iPhones' iOS 9 software, where it can be used to 'peak' at content such as the contents of message and links.

iPhone 6s vs iPhone 6: Design
As is usual for Apple's 's' upgrade the new iPhone is almost identical to the year-old iPhone 6. The only real change is the use of a stronger 7,000 series aluminium to reduce the risk of the phone bending when sat on in your pocket; this adds a fraction of a millimetre to the thickness of the handset (0.3mm to be precise, taking the iPhone 6s up to 7.1mm). Otherwise you will be hard-pressed to tell the difference between the two phones – good news for iPhone 6 owners not wanting to look out of date, bad news for any 6s buyers hoping to stand out.
Although the design is unchanged, Apple has introduced a new rose gold colour for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, which complements the equally new rose gold and regular gold Apple Watch Sport.

iPhone 6s vs iPhone 6: Camera
Another noticeable improvement is the new iPhone's camera. At 12MP it has a larger sensor than the 8MP iPhone 6, and Apple has worked hard to improve the way it uses every single one of those pixels. After explaining each improvement, Apple eventually resorted to assuring us that the 6s's camera is much better, and that's all we need to know.
A new software feature of the 's' phones is Live Photos, where the camera records a second of video before and after you take each photo, which can then be played to help bring an image to life. This feature isn't a million miles away from the animated photographs seen in the Harry Potter films.As for video, the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus can now shoot 4K video – a first for any Apple handset. The front camera has also been improved, up from just 1.2MP on the iPhone 6 to a much more respectable 5MP on the iPhone 6s.

iPhone 6s vs iPhone 6: Processor and storage
Apple will have upset many by yet again failing to increase the minimum iPhone storage from 16GB to 32GB. The new iPhone 6s gets the same storage options as its year-old predecessor – 16GB, 64GB and 128GB. As has always been the case with iPhones, the new model does not include a microSD card slot to increase this. Apple will point to its iCloud online storage system as an alternative to storing files on the phone itself, but for areas of poor 4G coverage – or for customers with a low monthly data cap – this will not be seen as an adequate solution.

5th November, 2015: A returning corporate client dropped by our repair centre today to get his daughter's White Apple iPhone 5C cracked screen repair, Model A1529 repaired. The iPhone 5C was dropped accidentally from the kitchen counter top. We managed to repair it with an hour and gave her a free tempered glass on the new lens/digitizer replaced. Due to demand in corporate repair, insurance claims and tertiary sector, we open up our third branch in Wellington City, Te Aro, New Zealand. It not easy to start a sustainable business in New Zealand, less than 20% of new startup can survive the first year business operation. On the second year, the survival rate hovers around 27.5% to 31.2%. The bigger challenge is how to expand the client base and increase the monthly sales target!

Client came in with her Samsung Galaxy S4 yesterday. She bought a new New Zealand SIM card and placed it in her phone but it does not show any network signal.

We have inspected it and found out that the Galaxy S4 is locked to a network in Spain. We engineers managed to perform a factory unlock for the client within one and a half hour.

Feel blissful to see the happy smile on the client!
