An air conditioning unit is essential in any residential and commercial space. It helps cool down the room temperature and filters the air. Here’s what the service of an air conditioner generally includes:

Checkup

The first step to any air conditioning service is the unit checkup. The technician checks the unit to identify a leakage inside the unit or from the pipes and tubes. While doing the checkup, the technician will also clean the unit by draining it and removing any accumulated dirt or debris over time. A unit checkup is necessary to ensure the system’s efficient performance and maximize its lifespan.

After the checkup, the technician will conduct a diagnostic test on the unit. This is done to identify any potential system problems and determine the best course of action to fix them. For example, the diagnostic test may include checking the refrigerant levels, testing the compressor, and checking the electrical components. Once the problem is diagnosed, the technician can recommend the best repair or replacement options.

Cleaning

Cleaning is mandatory in servicing an air conditioner. Aside from removing the dust, dirt, and debris from the unit, it is also essential to wash the fin and air filter with water and soap to remove or prevent mold buildup.

The condenser and evaporator fan also needs some cleaning, and the best time to do it is during the air conditioner service. Cleaning the fan enhances its performance, whether it is a window type or a split type.

When cleaning, don’t forget the coil. Accumulated dirt and dust on the coil may cause overheating of the system.

General Inspection

An air conditioner service includes inspection of the condenser unit, fan motor, evaporator unit, compressor, thermostat, pipes, power supply, and other air conditioning system parts. As a result, any possible problems are identified before affecting the system. Doing so ensures that the unit is fully functional. Not only does this save money on air conditioning repairs, but it also helps improve the system’s efficiency.

Benefits

Just like other appliances at home, the air conditioner naturally goes through wear and tear, thus requiring regular servicing, maintenance, and repair. One of its benefits is that it boosts the performance and function of the unit. It helps the system run more efficiently without needing major repairs and replacements. Like your car, an air conditioner needs tune-ups to function at its best. Here are several benefits of having regular AC maintenance:

1) Prevents breakdowns and expensive repairs – Regular tune-ups and maintenance can prevent your system from breaking down and needing major repairs. This is because the technician can identify any potential issues and fix them before they become big problems.

2) Prolong the lifespan of your AC unit – Just like with any appliance, if you take good care of it, it will last longer. Regular tune-ups will help prolong your air conditioner’s lifespan so that you don’t have to replace it as often.

3) Saves you money in the long run – Although you may have to pay for the tune-ups and maintenance, it will save you money in the long run. This is because, as mentioned above, it can prevent expensive repairs and replacements. Additionally, a well-maintained AC unit will run more efficiently, thus lowering your energy bills.

4) Improves indoor air quality – Not only does a well-functioning AC unit improve the temperature in your home, but it also helps to filter out pollutants and improve indoor air quality. This is especially important for those who suffer from allergies or other respiratory problems.

5) Provides peace of mind – Knowing that your AC unit is running properly can give you peace. In addition, regular tune-ups will help you to have confidence in your AC unit and know that it is working as it should.

Having the unit regularly serviced for cleaning, checkup, and maintenance also prevents the need for unnecessary expensive repair or replacement costs. It will not cost much if a repair is needed because the unit undergoes regular servicing. This is especially important for those with an older unit that may be more prone to breaking down and needing repairs.

Moreover, you can expect longer operational life and maximize the unit’s full potential by applying the right amount of care and by fixing any small problem immediately. Keep in mind that a minor irregularity can lead to a major malfunction.

Replacing an old-style water heater with a tankless water heater is a wise move, especially for homeowners with inexpensive, energy-efficient, and compact-built homes.

Although one of its downsides is its pricey unit and installation cost, having one that you can use on-demand is more convenient. Plus, a tankless water heater doesn’t require a lot of maintenance.

A tankless water heater has many benefits over the traditional storage tank type. One advantage is that you don’t have to wait for the hot water to come out because it heats water as it passes through the unit.

This means you can shower immediately after turning on the faucet, which is very convenient, especially if you have kids who need to take a bath in the morning.

If you plan to replace your old water heater device with a tankless one, here is a list of the best tankless water heaters on the market this year.

You will also find a brief review of the unit to help you decide and choose which one meets your requirements.

Ecosmart ECO Electric Tankless Water Heater, 27 KW at 240 Volts, 112.5 Amps with Patented Self Modulating Technology

Aside from its trusted name, EcoSmart ECO 27 is a top pick because it has a heating efficiency of 99%. In addition, it features a high-technological design that self-modulates when the unit is not in use.

Its 27k of electricity can supply up to 6 or 6.5 gallons of heated water in a minute. So this one is an excellent choice for endless hot water without too much electricity consumption, especially at its affordable price.

Among other pros include space-saver, time-saver, and limited lifetime warranty. It is recommended for a family of four or five.

Eemax 240-Volt 27-kW 5.3-GPM Tankless Electric Water Heater

Eemax 240-volt 27-kW provides instant, endless heated water on demand. It is an ideal unit for residential homes with four or five family members.

The unit’s compact design is not only stylish and resistant, it is also made with high technology features such as digital temperature control and simple installation.

In addition, the single-degree accuracy can be adjusted from 80°F to 140°F based on demand.

Although it requires three electrical breakers to operate, it offers 99% efficiency. It is great for whole house use with a hot water production of 3 up to 7 gallons per minute. In addition, Eemax provides five-year warranty protection on leaks and one-year warranty protection on parts for this unit.

Rinnai RU199iP Propane Gas Condensing Tankless Hot Water Heater, 11 GPM

Generating 11 gallons of hot water per minute, the Rinnai RU199iP is a beast. It is propane-fueled and compact, making it a perfect pick for home and indoor use. In addition, it is energy-efficient because it only consumes electrical energy when in use, thus saving water and electricity.

This unit has a ThermaCirc360 technology for recirculation benefits, making hot water readily available when needed. So you will never run out of hot water again.

Another significant pro of using Rinnai RU199iP is that it is more durable than other units and has a quiet sound. The warranty protection on heating parts is 15 years, while on other parts is five years. Rinnai also provides one-year warranty coverage on labor charges. It is a great option for home use with four or five members.

On the other hand, the downside of installing this unit is its expensive price compared to other competitors and brands in the market.

Based on the US Air Quality Index or AQI, an index of 50 and below is a good sign, while an index above 300 indicates hazardous air quality due to pollution. Also, the AQI is categorized into 6 different color-coded levels, and each category reflects a level of concern.

Air Quality Index Categories:

  • Good – 0-50 Value – Color code: Green

The green color code indicates that the air is good to satisfactory with an index value of 0-50. At this level, the air contains zero to lesser air pollution that poses no risk to little risk to health.

  • Moderate – 51-100 Value – Color code: Yellow

The air quality at this level is relatively acceptable. However, to some people who are unusually sensitive to pollutants and particles in the air, this level is considered poor and may cause risks to health.

  • Unhealthy (to sensitive individuals) – 101-150 Value – Color code: Orange

Coded orange at 101-151 AQI, this category is unhealthy to members of sensitive groups due to bad air quality.

  • Unhealthy (to almost everyone) – 151-200 Value – Color code: Red

Almost everyone is at higher risk if the air quality is at this level. However, at an AQI value of 151-200, a more significant number of individuals may experience serious health effects. In addition, those who belong to the sensitive groups may experience the worst impact on health.

  • Very Unhealthy – 201-300 Value – Color code: Purple

The health risk is significantly increased for everyone if the air quality is at this level. Therefore, necessary precautions and protection are imposed.

  • Hazardous – 301 and Higher Value – Color code: Maroon

Hazardous air indicates terrible air quality or even worst. It is an emergency condition, and everyone is affected.

Common Indoor Air Contaminants

  • Carbon Dioxide or CO₂ – from fuel combustion and gas from furnaces and heaters
  • Carbon Monoxide or CO – from vehicle exhaust
  • Dust, gases, asbestos, fiberglass, and formaldehyde – building materials
  • Vapors, volatile organic compounds or VOC – from cleansers and disinfectants, solvents, paints, pesticides, carpets, printing machines, and more
  • Dust mites – dust from the fabric, chair cushions, and carpets
  • Microbial contaminants – include bacteria, molds, and fungi.
  • Ozone – from electrostatic air cleaners, electric motors, and photocopiers
  • Other sources of contaminants such as tobacco smoke, perfume, food odor, body odor, and more

Potential Symptoms

Bad air quality is not good for the health, but it may not affect every person with the same issues. Moreover, knowing the symptoms is safe to take the right action and professional medical attention.

  • Shortness of breath
  • Headache
  • Dryness/irritation of the eyes, throat, and skin
  • Sinus congestion
  • Allergic reaction
  • Fatigue
  • Coughing and sneezing
  • Nausea and dizziness

Even those who claim they are physically healthy and fit can be affected by the risks and health effects of lousy air quality. Therefore, it is best to know what actions to take to improve air quality and protect yourself from the dangers.

Does AC improve air quality?

Yes, air conditioners can improve air quality by filtering out pollutants and circulating clean air throughout a room or building. Air conditioners work by drawing in hot, humid air and running it through a cooling coil. This process not only cools the air but also removes impurities such as dust, pollen, and mold spores. The filtered air is then circulated back into the room or building, providing cleaner, healthier air for everyone to breathe.

Does a UV Air Purifier Help?

A UV air purifier can help improve the air quality of an AC unit. Using ultraviolet light kills bacteria and viruses. A UV air purifier can help reduce the number of harmful particles in the air, making it safer to breathe. UV air purifiers can also help remove odors and other contaminants from the air, making it fresher and more pleasant to breathe.

Will a HEPA Filter Improve My Air Quality?

A HEPA filter can help improve your air quality by trapping and removing harmful particles and contaminants from the air. HEPA filters are designed to remove 99.97% of particles that are 0.3 microns or larger, making them an extremely effective tool for improving indoor air quality. HEPA filters can also help reduce dust, pollen, pet dander, mold spores, and other airborne allergens that can trigger asthma and allergy symptoms.

The air conditioning system is an essential and valuable piece of equipment in any home. It helps cool down the temperature, and it keeps the air filtered. Similarly, regular air conditioning service is also necessary to ensure the unit’s efficiency. In addition, air conditioning repair service helps keep the unit trouble-free.

AC Checkup

The most common type of air conditioning service is preventative maintenance. In this case, the technician will come to your home and check the unit for any potential problems.

To determine the status and condition of the unit, the technician has to give it a thorough checkup:

  1. They will clean the coils and blower and test the Freon levels. This is important because low Freon levels can cause the unit to overheat, leading to a breakdown.
  2. He will check the pipes to see if there is a leakage.
  3. He will check the filter to see if mold is building up.
  4. He will also check the coolant level and all the other important parts to ensure the unit is operating normally.

Overall inspection of the unit means checking the thermostat, compressor, fan motor, evaporator unit, and condenser unit.

AC Cleaning

Cleaning is an important step in any air conditioner repair service. This will help eliminate mold buildup and remove dirt and dust that may go with the air. Unfortunately, dust and dirt also cause overheating of the system. If not removed, it may even cause fire at home.

Cleaning also helps improve the operation of the unit and prolong its lifespan. Among the parts that the technician cleans while doing the air conditioner repair service are the tubes and pipes, fin and filter, evaporator coils, and condenser fan.

Repair and Replacement of Broken/Damaged Parts

If a part is broken or damaged, the technician will take action immediately. However, if the unit is new and fully functional, it is worthwhile to spend some amount for the repair.

Advantages of Air Conditioner Repair Service

Getting your air conditioning system serviced and checked provides many advantages.

  • It saves future expensive repair costs.

Some seemingly small problems become big troubles if not addressed right away. If not fixed at the right time, it will accumulate into a bigger hazardous and costly problem.

  • It improves the performance of the unit.

Routine checkups and inspections ensure that every single part of the unit is functioning well. A little cleaning and maintenance help improve the operation. When the unit is in its best condition, you can expect better cooling and filtration.

  • It prolongs the life of the unit.

Air conditioners need regular maintenance to maximize their efficiency and protect it from breaking down. A professional technician knows how to keep it intact for its longevity.

What are the Signs that Tell Your Air Conditioner Needs Immediate Repair?

If you hear a strange noise when you turn it on, or if there is a squeaking or squealing sound as it operates, there is a possibility of a loose belt or screws. Also, if the cooling cycle seems to shorten, it could be an issue in the control board or the filter is clogged. It could also be a problem with the refrigerant level. Finally, a fluid leaking in the condenser also signals something is wrong. Fortunately, these problems can be addressed if immediate attention is provided.

Years before an air conditioner was officially invented, some great scientists and inventors had marvelous ideas about cooling the air to reduce the heat inside the house.

Their ideas contributed a lot to the invention of an actual air conditioner. When was air conditioning invented? Read on…

Benjamin Franklin and Professor John Hadley in 1758

Benjamin Franklin and Professor John Hadley once touched on experimenting with quick evaporation and freezing using alcohol and other liquid elements to freeze water.

They wanted frozen water to cool down the room or lower room temperature. They probably did some exciting experiments, but they found that frozen water was insufficient.

John Gorrie in 1840

Because of the grueling heat in Florida, Dr. John Gorrie picked the pieces from Franklin’s experiment. His idea was about artificial cooling, which became the groundwork for an ice machine. He made a device that used compressor technology to produce ice.

Although the experiment was not a big success in air conditioning, it was used as the basis for the invention of modern air conditioning.

Willis Carrier in 1902

Working at a publishing company was extra demanding for Mr. Willis Carrier. The heat affected the quality of the paper and the ink on the prints. Willis Carrier’s job was to design a system that would help keep the temperature and humidity steady so as not to damage the paper or the ink. After much trial and error, Willis Carrier eventually came up with a solution that worked, and his invention changed the printing industry forever.

During those times, they used an apparatus that blew air into the room while working. The cool air from the device managed to keep the papers flat and smooth and the ink intact. The employees also benefit from the said device, making it a little less irritating.

Meanwhile, Mr. Carrier came up with a notable idea from the apparatus.

He also borrowed some concepts from the mechanical refrigeration developed in the previous years. He then created the first-ever electrical air conditioner, which was intended for industrial purposes and not for personal or home comfort.

The device was designed to control the printing plant’s humidity and temperature and improve its manufacturing process. It was a machine that sent cool air through some coils that were filled with ice-cold water.

Through this invention, Mr. Carrier established the first-ever air conditioning company in the US, the Carrier Air Conditioning Company of America. He adopted the term “air conditioning” from Stuart W. Cramer.

In 1933, the company developed a device that became the model for the modern air-cooling systems in the US. The device was made using a belt-driven condenser, a blower, and some mechanical controls and coils for evaporation.

More developments came up, which include Thomas Midgley, Jr.’s discovery of freon refrigerant in 1928, the rotary compressor in 1957, heat pumps in 1977, R-22 alternative refrigerants in 1992, chlorofluorocarbon in 1995, and more. The simple concept of blowing cool air to protect the paper from wrinkling became a big achievement in air conditioning technology that homeowners and commercial businesses now benefit from every day.

When your air conditioner stops working correctly, and you have no idea what to do about it, calling a professional air-conditioner repair service for help is the best decision you can make. However, since there are many AC repair services out there, you should be careful in choosing who to hire. Make sure to do extensive research and compare several candidates before choosing one.

As a guideline, here are the factors you need to consider:

1 – License and Certification

Every HVAC company requires a license to work. Each technician must also have a certification to prove their eligibility to perform the necessary tasks. HVAC systems can be complex, and one mistake can lead to significant long-term consequences. Therefore, hiring an uncertified technician or an unlicensed company is not worth the risk.

2 – Ratings and Reputation

Find out what people say about the HVAC companies you are considering hiring. In this era, finding reviews from real customers is not difficult anyway. However, it is also necessary for you to check the company’s rating on the BBB website to make sure.

3 – Experience and Expertise

Someone with many years of experience in the field is likely more reliable than newcomers to the industry. It is even better if the technician has expertise in fixing the specific problem you are experiencing. However, it is also important to remember that more experience does not always equal better skill and service. Checking out a service provider’s reviews can help prove their experience matches customer expectations.

4 – Availability

The ideal air conditioner repair service will quickly answer your calls and reply to your messages. How soon they can perform a task after you request it is also vital. Sometimes, an AC unit breaks suddenly and requires immediate action to avoid more significant consequences.

5 – Inspection

Understandably, you want the task to be done as soon as possible. But, don’t fall for a service provider that gives you a quote over the phone and offers to start working immediately without even inspecting your AC unit. Any AC technician will need to check the condition of the AC unit before giving you a quote. Any provider that provides you with a quote, prior to inspecting a unit and the other components that make up a proper installation, is most likely going to cut corners and not give you the proper engineering necessary to avoid costly issues down the line.

6 – Written Quote

Don’t approve any offer unless it comes from a written quote. Ensure it includes itemized services, fees, and other contact points. The more detailed the quote, the better prepared you will be with cost expectations and all the work that will go into installing your new AC unit.

7 – Warranty

Repairs won’t always work. Sometimes, the problem will reoccur, even within a few days. Even worse, the repair service may cause a new unexpected problem. A service warranty will protect you from such risks. Most professional HVAC companies will offer a service warranty with repairs, however, they don’t usually cover anything outside of the specific repair performed. HVAC installation is not as simple as mounting a TV to the wall and seeing if it will turn on. Even if you get the best unit in the right size, many other mistakes in the installation process may lead to a variety of problems. This is why it’s important to find the right installation contractor for the job who has the skills and experience to engineer and design the perfect AC system for your home.

Here are some common mistakes that can occur with improper AC installations. Each point will explain what HVAC problems are associated with improper installation:

1 – Poor Ductwork Design

Your HVAC unit only does half the job. The rest of the process goes through ductwork. The ductwork design is crucial to distribute the treated air evenly and thoroughly.

Ductwork is a crucial part of any HVAC system as it is responsible for distributing conditioned air throughout the home. That said, it is important to ensure that it is properly designed and installed to avoid any issues.

Here are some common mistakes when building ductwork:

  • Incorrect size

One of the most common mistakes in ductwork is using the wrong size. This often happens when homeowners try to save on costs by using smaller diameter ducts. However, using smaller ducts will only lead to problems down the line as it will restrict airflow and cause your HVAC system to work harder. This will not only lead to higher energy bills but will also shorten the lifespan of your HVAC system.

  • Terrible placements of vents

When it comes to ductwork another common mistake is poor vent placement. Vents should be placed in strategic locations to ensure that conditioned air is evenly distributed throughout the home. However, many homeowners make the mistake of putting vents in hidden or hard-to-reach areas, making it difficult for the air to circulate correctly.

  • Inefficient routes

Yet another common mistake when designing ductwork is taking inefficient routes. This often happens when homeowners try to save on costs by using shorter or smaller pipes. However, using smaller pipes will only lead to problems down the line as it will restrict airflow and cause your HVAC system to work harder. This will not only lead to higher energy bills but will also shorten the lifespan of your HVAC system.

  • Not sealing the ducts

One of the essential aspects of ductwork is making sure that it is properly sealed.

  • Poorly insulated ductwork

Another common mistake when it comes to ductwork is not correctly insulating it. This can lead to higher energy bills, drafts, and condensation. Make sure to have your ductwork adequately insulated to avoid these issues.

Ductwork is a crucial part of any HVAC system, but it is important to ensure that it is properly designed and installed to avoid any issues. If you are having trouble with your ductwork or think it may be inefficient, make sure to contact a professional for help.

2 – Bad-Quality Sealing of Ductwork

A ductwork leak is one of the most common HVAC problems associated with improper installation. Unfortunately, many irresponsible technicians use improper tapes or similar products to seal the duct connections. Improper tape may work, but only temporarily.

Eventually, it will wear off and expose the gap between ducts. The leaks may also cause humidity problems that lead to mold infestation. You can avoid such issues by using the proper sealant product for the ductwork installation.

One of the most common sealant products used in ductwork installation is mastic. Mastic is a pliable, tar-like substance that can be spread over the joints between pieces of ductwork. It dries quickly and forms a tight seal lasting many years.

Another popular sealant product is fiberglass tape. Fiberglass tape is coated with an adhesive that bonds it to the ductwork. As a result, it forms a strong seal that won’t break down over time.

Either of these products can be used to seal duct connections and prevent leaks.

3 – Wrong Choice of Condenser Placement

Your condenser unit requires space to dissipate the heat without any problems. Give it at least two feet of clearance on each side. Placing it near obstacles may cause the machine to overheat and break more easily.

4 – Wrong Choice of Thermostat Placement

Indeed, even this small device requires thoughtful placement to ensure your system runs optimally. For example, the sensor won’t work well if placed nearby vents or heat-generating electronics. Sun exposure may also affect its performance.

As a result, your system might produce too much cooling and inadequate heating. If possible, place your thermostat in the middle of the most commonly used room on the property. That way, it can accurately gauge the temperature, and your HVAC system will function more efficiently.

If you need to place the device near a window, shade it from direct sunlight to maintain optimal performance. You should also avoid placing it too close to doors or vents since that might skew the readings. Ultimately, you want the sensor to be in an area that best represents the space as a whole.

5 – Loose Parts

Mistakes as little as not tightening the parts well can lead to problems. For example, your system might make noises when operating due to the clanking between parts. This problem may cause wear and tear sooner if the loose parts are crucial.

Many people understand how crucial it is to buy a suitable HVAC unit and choose the right size. But unfortunately, many people still fail to realize how important it is to install it properly.

DIY installation may do more harm than good unless you have the proper skill, knowledge, and license. However, hiring unlicensed technicians is also just as dangerous. Not only will they likely make mistakes, but they will also not take any responsibility if you encounter any HVAC problems associated with improper installation. Therefore, you need a seasoned HVAC service company with the experience to avoid these issues.

Call ECM for all of your AC engineering & installation needs.

Air conditioner vents refer to the panel with holes that close the air duct openings in every room. Thus, they are only present in the central AC systems and not in mini-split installations. These panels look simple and insignificant. But, there are several things you need to understand about them.

Types of Air Conditioner Vents

Two types of air vents work simultaneously yet have opposing roles. However, both are equally important in the process of air conditioning.

Supply Vents

Supply vents are attached to the supply ducts where the conditioned air flows from the central HVAC unit to the rooms. If you put paper over the supply vents, you will see it gets blown away. You can also feel the airflow with your palms.

You can notice that supply vents have dampers or slats to control the amount and directions of the airflow. Also, supply vents tend to be smaller than return vents.

Return Vents

Return vents are attached to the return ducts where the room air is pushed into and sent to the central HVAC system for conditioning. If you put paper over the return vents, you will notice a gentle suction. You can barely feel it using your palms.

Dampers and slats are unnecessary for the return vents. Thus, these items usually look more straightforward than the supply vents. Return vents are also generally larger compared to the supply vents.

Closing Air Conditioner Vents When Not in Use

Some people like closing their air conditioner vents in unused rooms. They believe doing this trick on supply vents would lower energy consumption and save them money. Some even think it would send more cool air to other rooms as compensation. Unfortunately, this assumption is far from the truth.

Air conditioner vents do not send out the air. They only work as a door. Closing supply vents may block the cool air from entering the room, but it will not affect the AC operation. Your central system will still produce the same amount of cooling. If anything, the closing trick may instead do more harm than good.

The conditioned air will be forced back to the ductwork network with the airflow blocked. As a result, the air pressure will increase in time. Eventually, it will seep through duct leaks instead of rerouting to the following rooms. Thus, the undelivered cooling will go to waste rather than adding extra cooling to other rooms.

The system would spend more energy than it needs to compensate for the heat loss. Not to mention that the HVAC cycle might get unstable, which puts it at risk of early breakage and malfunctions. If you have rooms you rarely use, you can consider calling a professional HVAC company to create a zoning system instead.

Every part of the HVAC matters, including the air conditioner vents. Although they may not hold a vital role in the system, you will eventually experience problems if you don’t care for them well. If you have any trouble or doubts with your vents and are unsure what to do, you should call a professional to resolve it.

The primary purpose of an air conditioner thermostat is to keep your energy consumption as efficient as possible, which will help you save money. Most people do invest their money in one of these little devices. Yet, few of them know how to manage their thermostat to get the most out of it.

Familiarize yourself with the different settings on your thermostat. There are usually three settings on most air conditioner thermostats: auto, cool, and heat. The auto setting is the most energy-efficient, as it will only turn on the air conditioner when the temperature in the room rises above a certain point.

The cool setting is less energy-efficient, as it will keep the air conditioner running even when the room is cooler than the set temperature. Finally, the heat setting is the least energy-efficient, as it will keep the air conditioner running even when the room is warmer than the set temperature.

So, here are some tips to live by:

1 – Invest in a Programmable or Smart Thermostat

A programmable thermostat is much easier to manage because a conventional one requires you to readjust it daily manually. But if you don’t want to worry about doing that, a smart thermostat is all you need.

It is even better if it has a Wi-Fi feature, so you can even control your home temperature if you are far away.

If you are looking for a programmable thermostat, there are many different types. Some have basic features, while others have more advanced features that allow you to control your home temperature precisely.

Some come with Wi-Fi connectivity, so you can manage your home temperature even when you’re away from home. No matter which type of programmable thermostat you choose, it’s important to find one that is easy to use and program so you can get the most out of it.

2 – Set It Slightly Off of the Ideal Temperature

In summer, set your cool temperature to 78 instead of 72 degrees. Or, set it even higher if you can handle it. This can save you up to 30% of your energy costs without your body noticing the difference. You can also use the same trick for your heating system during the winter. Remember that every extra degree you tolerate means 3-5% more efficiency in energy consumption.

3 – Sleep Mode

If your air conditioner thermostat has a sleep mode feature, it is highly advisable to take advantage of it every night. Otherwise, you can set it manually. Setting back your thermostat by 10 degrees for 8 hours while you sleep can help preserve another 10% to 15% of energy. According to studies, our bodies can tolerate higher temperatures. Therefore, we likely won’t even feel the temperature rise.

4 – Don’t Turn It Off While You Are Away

Shutting your air conditioner thermostat off when you leave the house may reduce energy consumption. But, it is not practical in the summer. Due to the extreme heat, your system will consume way more energy to reach your ideal temperature again when you get home. In addition, it may take a long time before your indoor air is thermally comfortable.

It is much better to mildly increase your temperature while away, like in sleep mode. Thus, when you get home, your AC can return to your desired temperature without working too hard.

5 – Adjust the Temperature Gradually

When you change the temperature drastically over a short period, your AC needs a lot of energy. Meanwhile, you can significantly reduce energy consumption by readjusting the temperature little by little until it reaches the level you want. This may take a little patience, but it is effective to avoid a spike in your energy bill. Preventing your system from overwork like this will also keep it in prime condition longer.

The more effort you put into managing your air conditioner thermostat, the more energy you can preserve. That means lower energy bills and lower carbon emissions at the end of the month. You will also put less strain on your AC system. Thus, your system may last long and keep performing optimally.
