Somehow, one of most challenging and unnatural tasks of adulthood is making new friends. Most of the time, we think friends are just people to hang out with, or do things with. While that often is the context, the ultimate aim of a friend is to provide warmth, a shared space where you can both just be “your true selves.” Being a conscious friend, and being yourself in a friendship is no easy task. No wonder why most of us bail on them in light of other adult responsibilities and demands. Often, we don’t want to do the “hard work” of sustaining realness with another human being, or coordinate around each other’s lives.

But when we do, the results are no less than magical. Julie and I happen to be friends, and we happened to meet at work. Last year, we took a roadtrip and during the drive, taped our conversation about my leadership model on friends. Here we chat about how friends are one of the most valuable indicators of engagement in a workplace culture, and one of the most precious treasures of a meaningful, whole life.

We hope it inspires you to call an old friend, or invest in building new ones.

Change is always possible. The kind of change that is built to last occurs with an internal transistion of some sort. A new identity, a new belief state, a new mental frame, a new you. Think of all the ways you’ve transitioned from one version of yourself, to another…and think of all the ways that you haven’t. We all know people who say they are “done” or have “moved on” but haven’t truly disengaged with a previous season of their life. (Wasn’t there an entire movie about a 40 year old virgin?). The cost of not internally transitioning is high….especially when it comes to relationships. I know that I have held onto versions of myself far past their expiration date just to keep someone, or a group of people, comfortable.

What is something that youre transitioning away from right now? What prevents you from back sliding?

Listen in to Amiel and I chat about this amazing season where change moves from “possible” to “IMPERATIVE.” Amiel Landor is a trained intuitive, teacher of spiritual concepts, and a global traveler….You’re going to be engaged and have an “aha!” moment listening in.
“It’s Available.”

So often, it’s easy to focus on our lives with “not-enough” mind. We quickly see how we don’t have enough time, money, understanding, passion, meaningful conversation, patience, health, teamwork. Everywhere we look, we can find problems to solve and things to overcome. We can even apply this way of seeing to being “aware” “mindful” “healthy” “<g class="gr_ gr_39 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="39" data-gr-id="39">growth oriented</g>.”

This mindset is helpful when its used in small doses, and inspires or motivates us ahead. All too often, It can spread and creep over everything we experience, narrowing our presence and burdening our perspectives.

These last few weeks, I’ve struggled against myself, feeling that I was behind a lot. I noticed that I had “could have” or “should have” brain too much, and it dominated my conversations. I should have hired out an assistant to make program handouts, I could have said no, I should have had more fun, I could have gotten more sleep.

Honestly, once this brain wave takes over, it requires repetitive force to overcome. The best way to do it is together.

We know that there’s another way, which pays attention to what’s present and good. This way steps into the flow of what is, and rests there, embraces there, becomes <g class="gr_ gr_46 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace" id="46" data-gr-id="46">more free</g> there.

During a Letter Code workshop, one powerful participant bravely called out “It’s Available” when I <g class="gr_ gr_44 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="44" data-gr-id="44">asked</g> “what do you believe about love?”

It’s a pretty amazing moment when you free yourself from the struggle between your demanding ideals, and the reality of what is.

What if you saw that everything your heart truly wanted was available to you?

What difference would that make?

Yes. It is Available. This is my mantra <g class="gr_ gr_56 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar replaceWithoutSep" id="56" data-gr-id="56">in</g> this month. And such a short phrase gives me the empowering energy to step into a bigger truth. It calls me to operate from a place of a wise heart, rather than react from <g class="gr_ gr_55 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace" id="55" data-gr-id="55">a place anger</g>, fear or despair.
Thank you, loved ones, for cheerleading me to see bolder, bigger, bad-<g class="gr_ gr_40 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling" id="40" data-gr-id="40">asser</g>.

Excited to share here a handful of conversations that aim to do the same for you.

Episode Five

“What advice would you give yourself 20 years ago?” Antez and Krystal each reflected on this question over the Holiday season, as each of them experienced a major life transition. The topic of life-long development revealed to each of us what our major seasonal life lessons are. We encourage you to take a few minutes, a long walk, or a series of journal entries to answer this question for yourself before listening.
