Rather than giving away the plot, the teaser focuses on establishing its central relationships. Set against a nostalgic backdrop, it introduces Karthi and Subbu as two inseparable friends who spend their days getting into mischief. Their carefree camaraderie, however, appears destined to change with the arrival of Dorothy, played by Keerthy Suresh.

As the teaser unfolds, it hints at growing tensions between the two friends, suggesting that Dorothy's presence could become the catalyst for an emotional rift. Without relying on lengthy dialogues or dramatic reveals, the teaser builds intrigue through expressive visuals and understated moments, leaving much of the narrative open to interpretation.

Set for TIFF premiere before theatrical release

The teaser follows Wednesday's announcement, when Karthik Subbaraj revealed Dorothy as the title of his landmark 10th feature. The filmmaker also confirmed that the film will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival before arriving in theatres on September 25.

While Karthik directs the film, he is also producing it under his Dhammam Films banner alongside Guneet Monga and Achin Jain of Sikhya Entertainment. Jyoti Deshpande is producing on behalf of Jio Studios.

Behind the camera, Dorothy brings together a seasoned technical team. S Thirunavukkarrasu serves as the cinematographer, while Ganesh Siva handles editing. Kumar Gangappan is the production designer and Dinesh Subbarayan has choreographed the action sequences. Ilaiyaraaja composes the music, marking another significant collaboration for the veteran composer.

Although the makers continue to keep the story under wraps, the teaser makes it evident that Dorothy is built around relationships as much as spectacle. Director Madhu C Narayanan has officially begun work on his much-awaited second feature. The filmmaker, who made an acclaimed debut with Kumbalangi Nights, commenced production on his new, yet-to-be-titled Malayalam film on Wednesday with a traditional switch-on ceremony held in Fort Kochi.

The launch event was attended by members of the cast, crew and several well-wishers from the industry. Adding a sentimental touch to the occasion, filmmaker Dileesh Pothan, under whom Madhu previously worked as an assistant director, performed the customary switch-on, marking the beginning of the film's shoot.

The project stars Naslen in the lead and features an impressive supporting cast that includes Soubin Shahir, Baby Jean, Chandu Salimkumar, Poornima Indrajith, Haniya Nafisa, Franco, Anoop Mohandas and Alister Alex, who was last seen in Joji.

Madhu's return behind the camera has generated considerable excitement among Malayalam cinema enthusiasts. His debut feature, Kumbalangi Nights, released in 2019, went on to become one of the industry's most celebrated films in recent years, earning widespread acclaim for its layered writing, emotionally rich characters and nuanced exploration of masculinity and family dynamics. Expectations are naturally high as the filmmaker embarks on his sophomore outing.

The film is jointly produced by Dr Ananthu Productions and Madhu's own banner, Silent Cat Films. It also marks the first production venture under the Silent Cat Films banner.

Academy Award-winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao's Hamnet is set to premiere on OTT on August 7, bringing one of the most acclaimed literary adaptations of recent years to Indian audiences. Based on Maggie O'Farrell's bestselling 2020 novel of the same name, the historical drama reimagines the personal tragedy that is believed to have inspired William Shakespeare's Hamlet.

Rather than focusing on the playwright's legacy, the film centres on his wife Agnes, their son Hamnet and the devastating grief that reshapes their family after the young boy's death during the plague. Led by Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal, Jacobi Jupe and Emily Watson, Hamnet explores themes of love, loss, faith and creativity through an intimate portrait of the Shakespeare family. Ahead of its streaming debut, the cast and director opened up about the film's emotional core, their characters and the relationships that brought the story to life.

Director Chloe Zhao, who adapted the novel for the screen alongside Maggie O'Farrell, said she was immediately drawn to the story's exploration of grief, and the role imagination can play in making sense of loss.

"I was very excited because the story touches on death and impermanence and grief and how the act of creativity and imagination could give meaning to the inevitable suffering that we go through in life. When you have source material like that, it's gold."

Jacobi Jupe, who plays Hamnet, recalled how naturally his bond with Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal developed during filming, helping them portray a believable family on screen. "We imagined we were this family, and we would all say things and have memories about what had happened. Jessie and Paul, they instantly felt like my mum and dad, and I'm not even kidding. We've been like a real family."

Emily Watson, who plays Mary Shakespeare, sheds light on a character whose protective instincts often come into conflict with Agnes. "Mary is incandescent partly because she's terrified by the news. Agnes represents everything that is dangerous. This is a time when anything outside religion is not safe. This isn't the plan she's had. When Will was a baby, the plague was in Stratford, and Mary was sort of in lockdown with him and managed to keep him safe. That's an incredibly intense connection, I think, between a mother and child, however your relationship develops over time."

Jessie Buckley, who stars as Agnes Shakespeare, also reflected on the trust she shared with her co-stars, describing how their connection helped shape some of the film's most emotional moments.

"He is such a gentle, sensitive, gigantic force of a man. The trust we had between each other as actors allowed us to totally shed our skin and give each other our hearts. Jacobi, he is such a clever, deep little man who knows exactly what is required of him and has such access to go somewhere so deep. He's so special; my heart is just blasted open by him."

Hamnet will now be available to stream on Lionsgate Play in India from August 7.

In a recent interview with Galatta Plus, Madhavan addressed the criticism surrounding the film and also responded to being labelled a "Sanghi."

‘No political party approached me’

Responding to the criticism surrounding Dhurandhar on social media, Madhavan maintained that his views stem from personal values rather than political affiliations. He explained why he believes in standing by democratically elected leaders.

"The easiest way to find out is to check the username and see how many followers they have. You can figure out if it is a bot or a paid post," the actor said.
Reflecting on his upbringing, Madhavan shared that he was taught from childhood to put the country first. He pointed out that he has never spoken negatively about any political party or politician in his interviews or on social media.

"No political party has asked me to join them. So, when I read such comments, I feel they are coming out of frustration, but they don't affect my decision-making," he said.

He further added that if a sportsperson makes the country proud, it is only natural to celebrate the achievement. "If someone feels bad about that, then their intent has to be questioned," the Tanu Weds Manu actor remarked.

On being labeled a 'Sanghi'

Madhavan also spoke about frequently being labelled a "Sanghi" because of his social media posts celebrating India's achievements. He recalled that even Rocketry: The Nambi Effect was criticised by some for showcasing "too much Indian tradition and culture."

"How is it wrong to be an Indian? Why can't I show that I'm Indian? We are only showcasing what happened," Madhavan said.

Referring to Dhurandhar, he argued that the film depicts real events and questioned how that amounts to propaganda. He added that Rocketry faithfully portrayed the life of scientist Nambi Narayanan. "We have not manufactured it, and I have to be true to the character," the actor concluded.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day collected a record-setting $360 million in North America, beating Avengers: Endgame's $357 million benchmark set in 2019. In India, Spider-Man: Brand New Day collected Rs 309 Cr in the opening weekend, breaking all records set by Hollywood films in India.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day released in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
