The only thing I can do to improve my mood is to create an adorable bulletin board. It includes editable name tags and the cutest pieces you’ve ever seen! And guess what? It isn’t JUST for summer. I included an optional set of letters to use it anytime during the year in case you have a beach or ocean theme!

I even added additional choices for the editable name tags. Of course, I chose to keep it simple and only use the car, but you can use them as you choose! The pack also includes two choices for the hashtag title.

Teaching during the summer wouldn’t be at the top of my bucket list of things. But sometimes you have to do what you have to do….might as well make the best of it! I love how this Summer School Bulletin Board turned out, I hope you do, too!

Beach Day

This is the first year for me to try Beach Day and it did not disappoint. First I had parents and friends donate inflatables (I asked on FB) and of course I couldn’t resist buying some from Target (they were on sale!) and Temu had some cute ones as well (if you don’t mind the shipping wait). All in all we had about 15 floats…of course, a portion of those were small ones from Dollar Tree, but the kids loved them just as much as the big ones. Kids could bring one, too! What’s a fun day without special snack?

Now let me be transparent, I have NEVER been the person that is good at blowing up inflatables at the beach. That’s why I purchased the most amazing device! It is a mini portable air pump. You can see it HERE on Amazon!

End of the year gifts: we used permanent markers to autograph beach balls!

Memory Books

Being new to second grade, I needed to update my end of the year memory books. This new book was fun and easy to complete. You can use as many or as few of the pages as will work for your class, you can even add work from the year to the end of the book. There are a variety of covers to choose from, giving you a lot of flexibility and choice. Students can choose their own cover, or you can. See the MEMORY BOOK HERE on TpT!

Glow Day

This is an activity I have done for the last 4 years and it is a HIT every time, no matter how much or little I do! My advice if you are just starting? Begin simple, get a couple of glow lights and create a lot of the decor yourself with neon bright paper. Purchase a cheap pack of highlighters and reuse them! Then each year, add to your supplies. Amazon has so many great options! Here is my list if you’d like check it out!

Board and Craft

I used a frame found here. Last I glued the portrait to a sheet of black cardstock and then added the poem to the back. Last, I laminated it.

The poem is one I found years ago online. I am sharing the copy I used HERE in my TpT shop. (You can see the original blog post where I first saw the poem HERE and in the comments is the woman whose mom wrote the poem…I don’t know what her name is.)

Shrinky Dink Keychains

The other gift is a keychain using shrinky dinks. Materials needed: Shrinky dink sheets found HERE on Amazon. I used Sharpie markers to trace and colored pencils to color. First, I used this template HERE and gave it to my students to write a message to mom. Next I traced blue and red lines with the Sharpie markers (page turned landscape). I cut each line apart (there were three on a a page. Use a hole punch to make a hole in the top corner of the strip. Trim edges as necessary. Next I traced their message in black.

I set the temperature of the toaster oven to 325 degrees. Next I put aluminum foil on the tray and put two lines in at a time. I waited and watched each bake. They would curl up and then uncurl, eventually flattening out. DO NOT panic! Trust the process and they will flatten. When they come out, I laid parchment paper on them and flattened out alkl the way using a spatula. I used the keychain sets I bought on Amazon HERE to make the keychains you see! I think the tassel adds just enough detail to make them look perfect!

End of Year Bulletin Board SEE YOU LATER, Second Grader! (or any grade pre-k to 5th!) I know I say this a lot, but this really is one of my favorites! The craft turned out cute, too! The writing prompt is “What I will most about _____ Grade is…” And then the alligators added to it makes it even more adorable. The bulletin board is perfect for the end of the year. State Testing Encouragement: In Alabama, we take our state testing (ACAP) in April. We test the week we come back from spring break *insert rolling eyes* so I am trying to get my kids ready. We have been reviewing skills like crazy, but we need some encouragement. What did we do? I had kids draw names from a hat and write a not of encouragement to their friend. They had the best time coming up with things to say and then to surprise the friend with the note! I added these around the edge of the bulletin board. The board is perfect for any grade or state test…or even just some spring encouragment for anything really! You can find my newest bulletin board HERE on TpT.
