In an interview, Isayama confessed that a lot of his characters were inspired by the people he had seen in real life. For instance, he captured profiles of athletes, wrestlers, and even his friends.

Things were no different when he sketched Mikasa’s character. Isayama admitted that he got the idea for Mikasa after meeting a customer while working at a cafe.

He said: “Back then I constantly wondered, “How would I fabricate this character?” And the moment I saw that customer I thought, “Just like that!” I immediately grabbed a receipt next to me and sketched some ideas on the back. The concept for the Eastern Sea tribe, and even including how Mikasa wore her scarf, was via the details I gathered back then. Moreover, even though I would use athletes, friends from my hometown, etc. as inspiration, what I look for isn’t a well-portioned, beautiful face, but rather a strong, eye-catching face.”

MMA and WWE stars have also inspired his sketches

In the same interview, Isayama stated that MMA and WWE stars have inspired some of the characters in the story.

For instance, Eren’s Titan form was inspired by MMA star Yushin Okami. Takanori Gomi is another MMA artist whose fighting style was used as a reference throughout the storyline.

With the storyline of Attack on Titan, Isayama understood that it wasn’t important to make the character look attractive as its physique would be a dominating factor. He said: “You should draw them in a way that causes people to become preoccupied with their physiques because this is how the reader will feel more intimacy with them.”

Zapp Brannigan and the Professor get their shots, with Farnsworth saying beforehand it’s a bunch of “mumbo-gumbo, anything I can’t understand is fake.”

After the shot works, he offers Hermes an “apology for being so anti-voodoo. It may seem bat-whack crazy to a layman, but I see now that voodoo methods are built on centuries of brilliant scholarship.”

Hermes argues that “any sufficiently advanced magic is indistinguishable from science.” The episode then ends with Bender receiving the voodoo vaccine, ending the pandemic, and taking us into next week’s adventure, whatever that may bring!

He said: “I’d say I love all the characters equally and deeply. They are all my children; they are another character representing me. Well, you’d think… that’s not true. See, actually, when I draw Senku, I keep asking Senku, “Why don’t you go back to being petrified?” And when I draw Taiju, “Do you want to be stone again?” And the same with Gen, “I wish you went back to being a stone again!”

Dacre Montgomery filmed his season four scenes in a very unusual way

It was a brief but chilling cameo from Montgomery, who recently revealed the somewhat unusual way he filmed his season four scene.

He revealed that he wasn’t able to shoot the scenes in person due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so it was directed over Zoom instead.

“I knew that they wanted to figure out a way to weave him back into the storyline, especially for Sadie’s character, Max. But I was even more surprised when obviously the pandemic was happening,” Montgomery told Awards Daily. “I was in Australia, and it was very difficult at the time to get out of Oz and into the US and then back into Australia. So there was a point where I was going to try and have to figure it out, but the Duffer Brothers actually were sort of kind enough to say they’d make it happen in Oz.”

The Stranger Things set was brought to him in Australia

The solution was for Montgomery to film his new scenes in his home in Perth, Western Australia. Apparently, producers shipped in a wig and prosthetics and arranged for set construction to accommodate the needs of the scene.

Director Shawn Levy then zoomed in on an iPad to direct Montgomery in the scene, which already included half of Sadie Sink’s pre-recorded lines. However, the actress obviously couldn’t be there so instead they used a tennis ball as a stand-in to align the eyelines properly.

“It was an incredibly unique experience, but nice to do it at home. I’ve never really worked in Australia other than working on Elvis during the pandemic,” Montgomery added. “So not only was I in Oz, but I was home in Perth, which is just so rare for me. So many of the local crew were from Perth, so it was actually a really nice opportunity to be at home and work at home.”

It certainly goes to show the power of technology and the creative methods producers can go to to get the scene they require. Billy’s scene with Max is one of the most gripping and gut-wrenching moments in the whole of season four, and you’d never have guessed it was (mostly) done over Zoom.

Game of Thrones fans on Reddit were wound up in a rather interesting discussion recently. It all started after a fan posted their opinion of the r/GameofThrones subreddit. The user named u/Lousouwayla shared a collage of images of Daenerys in the North writing, “North remembers everything except Daenerys’ sacrifice for them.” They also mention further “I always get hate for saying this but it’s true.”

The first picture is from the scene where the mother of dragons rescues Jon and his crew from the Night King. Jon and his associates head north to capture a white walker to present it to Cersei Lannister to prove to her that the threat of the ‘dead’ taking over the world is real. But they are ambushed when a large hoard of walkers appears out of nowhere. They become stranded in the center of a glacier. The white walkers begin crossing the glacier and attacking Jon’s crew from all four directions. While Daenerys swoops in and ends up saving the men, the Night King manages to kill her dragon Viserion in the process. The picture shared by the Reddit user shows Daenerys watching her dragon go down in a bloody mess.

The second set of images of Daenerys is from the Battle of Winterfell. She is holding Ser Jorah in her arms as he dies. When a white walker attacks Daenerys, Jorah who is already badly wounded ends up pushing her back and the sword ends up piercing him. The fan expresses how Daenerys lost two beings she loved the most and who were the most loyal to her, in her attempt to save the North.

Game of Thrones fans debate the theory

While the original poster’s way of looking at Daenerys’ ‘sacrifice’ for North is an interesting approach, fans added their perspective to the mix too.

One fan shared how no one in the North seemed to be caring about Jorah. “I very doubt anyone knew or cared about Jorah,” they said.

Another user shared that they don’t think anyone forgot her sacrifice. But they also shared how one has to expect casualties when there’s a war. “Nobody forgot that, where did you get your information from? Also, you have to expect casualties when fighting an enemy as strong or even stronger than you,” the wrote.

However, a third fan had a rather interesting approach to this. They noted how Daenerys hadn’t really sacrificed anything for the North but was fighting in the North because it was an “end of the world scenario.” The fan noted how Daenerys’ army would have eventually defeated too if the Battle of Winterfell was lost and the Night King’s army proceeded down south.

“It’s not a land dispute, it’s an end-of-the-world scenario. Doing this was in Dany’s best interest as well. If you help me put out a fire in my house so it doesn’t spread to yours, I don’t owe you my house,” the wrote.

The Futurama and The Simpsons creator unveiled his exciting animation project in the summer of 2018 and it certainly filled the gap, with Futurama legends like John DiMaggio (Bender) voicing King Zøg and so forth.

Disenchantment’s final season premiered on Friday, September 1st, and although it’s sad to say farewell, we still have episodes of Futurama’s Hulu and Disney+ revival to look forward to and cherish.

Season 11 has already skewered topics from Bitcoin to Amazon, and episode 6—I Know What You Did Next Xmas—drops in a Disenchantment reference that confirms a compelling fan theory once and for all.

The festive special follows Professor Farnsworth traveling in a time machine from the future, hurtling back to the year 3023 when season 11 is set. When looking out of the machine he spots none other than Princess Bean, Elfo, and Luci looking into a crystal ball.

This helps reinforce the theory that Disenchantment takes place after the events of Futurama. Rather than taking place in the Middle Ages, some suspected the series actually takes place in the Second Middle Ages, which was during the 24th century. This was facilitated by the destruction of New York in 2308.

So, we have the fall of New York and then the establishment of New New York preceding the events of Futurama. However, this new scene confirms Disenchantment takes place in the future of Futurama.

Although we don’t see the exact year of the Disenchantment time machine moment, it confirms the show takes place after the events of the latest Futurama season. A long time after too.

While this reference helps to clarify the timeframes between shows, we already knew they were set within the same universe thanks to a delightful reference to Futurama in Disenchantment season 1 episode 10 where Fry, Bender, and the professor are seen in a time machine through the lens of a crystal ball.

The Dr. Stone manga was released in 2017 and was serialized into an anime in 2019. Since then, fans have been curious to find out how Senku Ishigami will restore civilization with the power of science. To make sure the storyline resonates with the audience, author Riichiro Inagaki ensured that he was able to easily explain the scientific terminologies to his audience.

Dr. Stone’s storyline was inspired by the Dragon Wuest video game

In a 2019 interview, Inagaki confessed that the idea of petrification came from the Dragon Quest video game. Fans would know that petrification has been an important part of the storyline as it focuses on the restoration of humanity by turning them back into living beings from statues.

He was also focused on building a storyline where an average person took charge of things and saved mankind rather than a superhero. He said: “For the average person to accomplish something, you need to keep working and build up towards whatever your goal is. I think that’s cool, and wanted to write about that.”

“I started wondering, “What’s a cool way to portray that average person working hard for their goal?” To amplify that idea of not being able to do anything was the idea of petrification; when you’re petrified, you can’t do anything. But you can count on that situation. That’s what the main character, Senku does. He embodies the idea of working diligently by counting for a couple of thousand years.”

How Dr. Stone’s two creators work together

Inagaki, the writer of the story, has been working with Boichi, the illustrator for the manga for a long time. One would think it would be difficult to bring the idea to life with two people working on different things, but the duo has managed to do a tremendous job.

Inagaki explained that once he has an idea about a character he draws a rough sketch of it and sends it to Boichi. The manga illustrator then proceeds to make a couple of changes to ensure that the design is perfect.

However, Boichi noted that his job is not too hard as Inagaki manages to draw all the crucial details as well. He said: “Inagaki-sensei said what he gives is simple but that’s not true. I’m thinking, “Wow, this is already complete, perfect. So what can I do? Maybe I can just submit it?” But then I won’t be paid. So I make some little subtle changes and add my own stylistic changes, too. However, he does everything.”

What to expect from Season 3 Part 2

Season 3 Part 2 of the anime is going to conclude with the Treasure Island arc of the manga. With episode 12 being titled ‘The Kingdom of Science Strikes Back’ one can expect Senku and his team to revive other people as well.

Up until now, they have managed to invent cameras, a radio-controlled drone, wireless headphones, and even crop rotations. Seeing their growth, fans can expect many more interesting inventions in Part 2.

George RR Martin reveals his favorite Game of Thrones episode

Martin scripted four episodes for the show namely The Pointy End, Blackwater, The Bear and the Maiden Fair, and The Lion and the Rose. He has revealed in his August 29 blog that his favorite out of the lot was Blackwater.

“Blackwater is my own favorite of those, although I thought The Lion and the Rose turned out very well too, and I have a soft spot for that one,” he wrote.

The episode was a part of the GOT’s second season’s ninth episode. It featured the show’s first battle sequence and set a gold standard for the upcoming battle sequences throughout the show.

What goes down in the Battle of Blackwater?

The episode aired on May 27, 2012, and is now11 years old. It was helmed by director Neil Marshall and features the battle between the Lannisters and Stannis Baratheon. Following King Robert Baratheon’s death, Joffrey takes over the throne giving the Lannisters a huge access to the throne too.

Robert’s brother Stannis who thinks he is the right heir to the throne now brings his army via sea to attack King’s Landing. It is Tyrion Lannister who fights off Stannis’ forces.

Tyrion who is astute with his strategy and planning blows up Stannis’ fleet with an enormous explosion.

Not only does the episode feature high adrenaline shots of the battle but also a rousing speech by Tyrion to King Landing army. What’s more he earns the Lannisters a victory despite having no prior battle experience. With Jamie Lannister not being around, Tyrion has not one to turn to and is responsible for protecting the capital all alone.

What you will remember when watching, on the other hand, is Zoidberg’s girlfriend. When the professor tells the gang they can spend Xmas with their loved ones, it’s established that Zoidberg and Bender don’t have anybody they can share it with.

“I like the new Futurama episode but I can’t help but note that Zoidberg does have relatives and a girlfriend,” one fan tweeted, referencing Zoidberg’s girlfriend Marianne (voiced by Emilia Clarke) from Stench and Stenchibility, the penultimate episode of season 10. The episode was followed by Meanwhile, which marked the beginning of a ten-year absence in response to the series’ second cancellation.

Recapping the season 10 installment, Zoidberg struggles to date due to his stench. However, he discovers that a woman named Marianne he earlier bought flowers from is unable to smell him at all.

His smell foils Roberto’s plans to rob her and, as a token of her appreciation, she agrees to meet up with him outside of work. She confides in Zoidberg that she’s always wished to be able to smell the flowers that she sells, which compels Zoidberg to give her a nose transplant.

After the procedure, she finds that she hates the smell of flowers but likes Zoidberg’s smell, saying she likes him and therefore enjoys his smell. The pair continue dating and we depart on them when she drives a garbage truck to his dumpster home. “I’ve got a new job… I’m going to have to dump you.” She’s not referring to a breakup though, only to cleaning out his dumpster. The pair kiss and the episode ends with them happily still together.

After that, it’s no surprise that audiences are let down by her omission. Where could she be? Perhaps future episodes will follow up the unfinished Marianne storyline. We sure hope so, let Zoidberg be happy!

Jujutsu Kaisen is back with season 2 and fans have been loving every bit of it as the anime allowed viewers to go back in time and witness the friendship between Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto. Since the release of the manga in 2018, the show has managed to gain more followers and become one of the most-watched series. However, there was a time when it was at the edge of ending as there was a possibility for the manga to get axed.

Jujutsu Kaisen was nearly canceled

In an interview with Mando Kobayashi, Akutami admitted that Jujutsu Kaisen was going to get canceled and that was one of the main reasons he decided to kill Yuji Itadori.

Volume 1 of the manga ends with the sentence “Among them, one died.” Undoubtedly, it was enough to create chaos among the fans who wanted to know what would happen next. This tactic worked well as the manga was given the green light to go on.

Just like the manga, the anime managed to generate a shocking reaction from the fans when the scene was serialized into an episode. Fans loved the plot twist and were eager to watch the rest of the story.

The manga is set to end soon

Previously, Akutami had noted that the manga would be finished at the end of 2023. However, things changed around 2023 as the manga had to go on a short hiatus.

Due to this, it has been confirmed that it will not be coming to an end in 2023. Nonetheless, the author has already planned the ending for some of the characters. As per reports, Akutami confirmed he had an ending decided for Yuji and Megumi Fushigoro.

However, one character that he is still unsure of is Sukuna, the antagonist who has been playing a major role throughout the storyline.

What chapter of manga will season 2 cover?

The first five episodes of season 2 cover chapter 65 of the manga. This looks into Geto and Gojo’s friendship. Meanwhile, the remaining episodes will cover the Shibuya Incident, that is, chapters 83-152 of the manga.

Mike could be Vecna’s first target in Stranger Things season 5

Vecna firmly established himself as the Big Bad at the end of last season, with the series’ terrifying antagonist leaving Hawkins in ruins despite being momentarily defeated.

Mike has been the leader of the group that has consistently messed up Vecna’s plans over the past few seasons, and so singling out Wheeler as his first target could send a message that Vecna isn’t playing around.

Essentially, Mike has been foiling Vecna’s plans without even realizing it, taking down the vast array of sinister villains and minions that have all been part of Vecna’s plans.

Another clue that Mike will be on Vecna’s radar first is that he was included in Nancy’s vision of her family dying, given to her by Vecna himself. He’s clearly made himself known to Vecna who isn’t shy about revealing his grand plan.

His relationship with Eleven could be his undoing

Furthermore, Mike is perhaps the person closest to Eleven, and given El is Vecna’s arch nemesis, the antagonist may want to deal out maximum damage by targeting El’s loved ones first. It’s hard to imagine the demise of any other character affecting El quite like Mike’s would.

Additionally, Mike may have somewhat of a redemption arc following the events of season four. Throughout season four, he frequently rushes through the California deserts mindlessly after getting worried about Eleven and not thinking about anyone else. Plus, he heart-wrenching scene between Mike and Will in the car, which left the latter crying into his hand, made Mike look rude and selfish. 

If Mike needs a redemption, what better way to save the group by pitting himself against Vecna right away. It may be futile but if it means saving everyone else, a leader like Mike might just do it for the greater good.

A fan theorized, “Henry is the sentient consciousness controlling the particles’ hive mind so our main characters need to understand him and his psyche in order to try and make him stop using Dimension X organisms to take over our dimension. By “if there’s still any humanity left in him” Matt was probably hinting at the idea of the characters planning to stop the Upside Down without killing/defeating Henry, but I doubt they’ll be able to make him shift his thinking/plans.”

So Henry getting back his humanity and changing for the better could be a more emotional ending and shape the plot in a different way than fans imagined.

Is Vecna truly in control?

Another theory suggests that instead of Vecna, the Mindflayer could be actually in control, so that could also serve the plot twist that viewers will not necessarily predict. Matt Groening’s iconic animated sci-fi sitcom Futurama is host to so many amazing characters, but Bender and Zoidberg are often cited as two of the very best—and for good reason.

With the announcement of the Hulu and Disney+ reboot, audiences were eager to learn what to expect from season 11, and so far we’ve had episodes from everything as diverse as Dune parody to a satire on Amazon. However, episode 6 may be the most special yet because it gave the fandom something it’s always wanted… a Bender and Zoidberg episode in the truest sense.

I Know What You Did Next Xmas finds the unlikely pair becoming friends in bizarre circumstances when they’re faced with having to dispose of Santa. They close in on him as Zoidberg jumps to the rescue. “No, don’t hurt him, he’s my best friend!” Plotting his escape, Bender shoves him to the floor without a word and cheeses it.

The Deep South

Just one episode on from the previous entry on this list, the unforgettable episode in which the crew finds themselves trapped at the bottom of the ocean boasts an iconic Bender and Zoidberg moment. More than one, actually.

Zoidberg finds a shell to live in and makes himself at home. “Say Robot, old buddy, could you help me move a couch?” he asks.

“Errr,” he replies hesitantly. “Okay, but I’m not carrying it upstairs.”

We see Zoidberg gardening outside with the shell decorated later on, but towards the end of the episode he discovers in horror that it’s been burned down. “How did this happen?” he asks.

“That’s a very good question,” Hemes admits. However, it was Bender. “So that’s where I left my cigar,” Bender says while gazing at the wreckage. “That just raises further questions!” Hermes shouts standing next to a furious Zoidberg.

Anthology of Interest I

We couldn’t bid farewell to season 2 without tipping our hats to the fight between a giant Bender and Zoidberg in the very first Futurama anthology episode, which ultimately felt like the show’s answer to The Simpsons‘ Treehouse Of Horror.

Bender asks the professor’s ‘What If’ machine what it would be like if he was 500 feet tall but when he goes on a rampage as a giant the crew decides to enlarge Zoidberg to the same size.

“Hey, I called this city, quit touching my stuff,” Bender tells Zoidberg, who has also decided to wreak havoc.

“Tell it to the claw,” he tells him, triggering a Kaiju-style showdown in New New York.

The Birdbot of Ice-Catraz

When Leela is protesting an oil tanker, her absence gives Bender the bright idea of appointing himself captain of the Planet Express, making Zoidberg his steward and giving Fry the nickname Wiggles.

He goes mad with power, but Zoidberg’s persistent obedience is basically comedic gold in every scene they share. “Brilliant,” he cheers after Bender tells an obviously bogus story.

After a fallout with Fry, Bender refuses to drink and Zoidberg tries to get him back on the wagon (in robot fashion). “Have some liquor, you robots need alcohol to function.”

“Get out,” Bender snaps at him. “I once knew a guy, you look like him. He wasn’t neither.”

It’s episodes like this that tease the mismatched comedic potential that the recent Xmas special absolutely delivers on.

Overclockwise

Bender evolves into an all-powerful being in this much later installment of the series.

Speedily reading through a book, he says “I’m processing information so fast it’s like I can anticipate that the ceiling fan’s gonna fall and knock Zoidberg unconscious.”

The ceiling fan falls but lands next to Zoidberg. “Wrong Mr. Genius,” he tells Bender, who points out “Not that ceiling fan” just before another plummets straight down onto him.

I Know What You Did Next Xmas may be the funniest and most satisfying shared screen time yet, but there were some great moments leading up to it over the years.

Isayama stated that several aspects of MMA helped him shape the characters in a way that would benefit the storyline the best. At the same time, he wanted to capture the idea of allowing weak characters to transform into strong beings. This is clearly depicted in Eren’s character who starts off as a timid young kid who goes on to become a strong mastermind boy.

At the same time, Isayama also spoke about the ginormous Titan design stating that he wanted to capture things that were “idiosyncratic to [him] in its ugliness.”

There is WWE inspiration as well

MMA is not the only fighting technique that inspired Isayama. In the same interview, he commented on the influence of WWE.

Reiner Braun aka the Armored Titan was inspired by Brock Lesnar. The amateur wrestler and professional football player managed to send shivers down people’s spines as he entered the WWE ring. To this date, people love it when he is set to appear on Raw and SmackDown.

It looks like Isayama too is a fan of him as he managed to embody his characteristics in the Armored Titan.

Mikasa has a different inspiration

While WWE and MMA have played a crucial role in the design of Titans, Mikasa’s character has a very different inspiration.

Her character design was inspired by a customer that Isayama had met while he was working at a cafe.

Unfortunately, the author has not spilled a lot of beans on this topic, but it is definitely interesting to know that a real-life Mikasa is somewhere out there.

George R. R. Martin’s approach to storytelling and writing is as fascinating as the worlds and characters that he creates. The popular author has celebrated two authors in particular as the godfathers of fantasy naming and has given an intriguing insight into his methodology.

Whether it be for characters, places, or political systems, George R. R. Martin’s iconic Game of Thrones features some fantastic fantasy names; however, the popular author has admitted that he finds coming up with series-specific designations extremely tricky.

During a live Q&A with fans back in 2020, Martin explained how he “doesn’t have an easy answer” for how he came up with terms such as Winterfell, Targaryen, or White Walker, but that he was vastly envious of authors who did: such as The Lord of the Rings‘ J. R. R. Tolkien and The Last Castle’s Jack Vance.

“The names are hard. I don’t have an easy answer for that. I vastly envy someone like Jack Vance, who I think has just a magical gift for names. One of the things I love most about Jack Vance is the character names and the place names. They’re just wonderful. They just ring off the ear.”

Jack Vance was a critically acclaimed American mystery, fantasy, and science fiction author who sadly passed away in 2013 at the age of 96. Vance was best-known for creating iconic stories: The Dragon Masters, The Last Castle, the Lyonesse trilogy, The Dying Earth, The Demon Princess, and The Man in the Cage – all of which we would highly recommend to any new writer starting out in this industry.

Martin also, unsurprisingly, cited J. R. R. Tolkien as one of the godfathers of fantasy naming, which he puts down to Tolkien’s experience as a linguist – especially within ancient languages such as Old English and Norse.

“Tolkien was similarly gifted, you know if you read some of that and you say, well, it’s like [with] Tolkien there’s like three names for everything, and you know this is what the elves call it, this is what the dwarves call it this is what the men of west used to call it a thousand years ago but today’s men call it something else, and you know, it’s like a hill. But fantasy names are tough because you know if it was easy. I mean Tolkien, there wasn’t much that come before him, and he was also a linguist he spoke languages. He spoke old Norse and old English and was familiar with linguistic theory I don’t have any of that stuff.”

Martin also jokingly acknowledged that there is a difficulty when creating fantasy names now compared to when Vance and Tolkien were putting pen to paper. He laughed, “I have all this other fantasy stuff that’s come between Tolkien and my work, and these guys have like used all the good names.”

At a 2005 convention, Martin noted that his character names couldn’t be too ‘weird’, describing weird as having a slew of too many apostrophes and that they couldn’t sound too ‘real’ less the reader ingress themselves from the world he created.

Around nine years later, Martin also confessed that “a lot of fantasy names are too much for me, they’re too difficult to pronounce” but he had a trick-or-the-trade at hand:

“I wanted the flavor of medieval England, so that was my goal. I took actual medieval names, some actual names that we still use today, like Robert, and in some cases I tweaked them a little, like I made Edward into Eddard [because] if you actually look at medieval history, people didn’t know how to spell their own names. There were a million variants [available].”

If you are a budding writer yourself, Martin has a titbit of information that might help your approach to naming characters:

“One of the things about names is that when you are a wee tiny little writer just starting out, one of the things they teach you, when you are writing a story, never give two characters in the story whose names begin with the same letter. Because the reader will confuse them.”

On the contrary, Martin “followed that rule for many years but then when I was writing A Song of Ice and Fire novels” but stopped when he realized that, “I’m planning on having more than 26 characters, what am I gonna do here? Am I gonna name them like X Fred? So I decided to ignore that rule.”

‘Manga to live action’ fever has gripped the entertainment industry, but Netflix’s One Piece isn’t the only series that fans should be excited about – a live action adaptation of Naruto is in the works, with reports citing that the next draft script has been completed at Lionsgate.

Naruto live action movie confirms scriptwriter Tasha Huo

The announcement concerning a live action movie adaptation of Naruto was revealed all the way back in 2015 with Avi Arad, the founder of Marvel Studios, coming on board for Lionsgate.

In 2016, it was confirmed that manga author Masashi Kishimoto was also joining the team to develop the live action movie alongside director Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman).

Gracey celebrated the partnership in an interview with Collider a few years later, stating that Kishimoto was a “genius” and that they needed to find the right balance between authenticity and Hollywood creativity, in order to do Naruto justice:

“So many Hollywood adaptations of really popular manga series just don’t get it right, and for me what was really important was that if I was gonna do Naruto, I wanted to actually work with Kishimoto and get a script to a stage where he would look at it and be excited about realizing it. Because no one knows the world better than the person who created it.”

This brings us to 2023, with inside reports claiming that the first draft of the script had finally been completed by veteran writer Tasha Huo. As one fan account shared: “Big News Alert! A Naruto Live Action Movie is in development by Lionsgate. Tasha Huo, who wrote The Witcher on Netflix, has completed a new script draft! Who’s excited?”

This report is being celebrated by fans as in the aforementioned interview with Collider, Gracey reaffirmed that the script would only be developed under the tutelage of Kishimoto himself, and only if he gave the thumbs-up:

“Because until that script is at a level that I’m excited about, I have no interest in destroying an amazing franchise, as has happened before…At this stage, no one is going to go into production until we’ve got a script that excites everyone. So whether it’s my next one or not, I don’t know. We’ll have to wait and see.”

Huo previously worked as a writer on the documentary Women in the Dirt (2011) and is best-known for writing episodes of The Witcher’s prequel series Blood Origin (2022).

Whilst The Witcher: Blood Origin was widely criticized for its quality and consistency, Huo was described as a “demon writer” by creator Declan de Barra before the show was cut from six episodes to just four.

Thankfully, fans will get the chance to see more of Huo’s work on both the big and small screen before physical production on the Naruto movie takes shape.

Not only is Huo is currently working on the Naruto live action movie, but also the upcoming Tomb Raider TV series, the theatrical reboot of Red Sonja, and Mighty Nein (the second campaign of Critical Role’s iconic series).

Naruto delays four new anime episodes indefinitely

Unfortunately, it’s not all good news for the global Naruto community as the four new anime episodes from the original TV series have sadly been delayed indefinitely.

The four new episodes were originally scheduled to start their domestic broadcast in Japan on September 3 and were produced in celebration of the series’ 20^th-year anniversary.

However, the production team at Studio Pierrot have decided that the best course of action is to postpone this broadcast “in order to improve the quality of this work”, as shared in an official statement shared to the project’s social media channels.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support. We have decided to postpone the broadcast of “NARUTO: The Complete New Animation Commemorating the 20th Anniversary of Naruto”…in order to further improve the quality of this 20th anniversary work, which is the first work produced in approximately six years and five months. We sincerely apologize to the fans who have been looking forward to the broadcast.”

The statement noted that a new broadcast schedule will be shared “as soon as it is determined” and that the animators will “do our utmost to meet your expectations, and we would appreciate your understanding in this matter.”

The world in which J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings is set is both vast and rich, and while much of it was explored in Peter Jackson’s trilogy, there’s still a lot to uncover. Jackson did so himself, splitting children’s fantasy novel The Hobbit into a blockbuster trilogy. Amazon also got in on the act with their own TV series, The Rings of Power, which was met with mixed reactions ahead of a second season being confirmed.

New Lord of the Rings animated film will focus on the Rohirrim

Warner Bros and New Line Cinema’s plans to expand Tolkien’s universe don’t end there though, with several movie additions planned for the Lord of the Rings franchise.

One of the most eagerly-anticipated projects is The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, an animated film that will serve as a sort-of prequel to Jackson’s original trilogy. The anime is set 183 years before the events narrated in Peter Jackson’s trilogy, and will tell the story of Helm Hammerhand, the ninth king of Rohan, whose Rohirrims are at war with a tribe of wild men called the Dunlending.

New Lord of the Rings movie falls victim to ongoing strikes

Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich promised in an interview The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will be “an epic portrayal unlike anything audiences have ever seen”.

It was also revealed that The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim would arrive on big screens on April 12, 2024.

However, it has now been reported that the movie has been pushed back to the end of next year amid a slew of movie delays from Warner Bros.

It’s essentially due to a knock-on effect from the ongoing actors’ strike. Warner Bros has delayed the release of Dune 2 because of the SAG strike, with the film being moved from November 3, 2023, to March 15, 2024.

That’s affected the release of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire  which has been moved from a March 15, 2024 release to an April 12, 2024 release.

With the April slot now taken up, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim has been pushed back to 13 December, 2024.

What we know about The War of the Rohirrim

Philippa Boyens, one of the Oscar-winning screenwriters for The Lord of the Rings will serve as an executive producer on the film. Her daughter, Phoebe Gittins, and Arty Papageorgiou will write the screenplay based on a script from Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews. Kenji Kamiyama, who directed the beloved anime series Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and the recent Blade Runner: Black Lotus, will also be at the helm.

Sola Entertainment will be the anime studio bringing the film to life.

Brian Cox, the award-winning Scottish actor, known for his role as Logan Roy in the hit drama series Succession, will be be the voice of lead character Helm Hammerhand.

The Golden Kamuy manga and subsequent anime adaptation is one of the best historical adventure series that you can read/watch online; a live action movie is currently in development and alongside a new teaser, the main cast has finally been confirmed – here is everything that fans need to know.

The live action movie adaptation of the Golden Kamuy manga series was publicly announced in April 2022; however, since then, new information on the film had been suspiciously lacking.

That is until August 29 when fans of Satoru Noda’s popular historical adventure series were treated to a brand new teaser trailer for the Golden Kamuy movie, see below.

The upcoming theatrical adaptation is scheduled to premiere on January 19, 2024, in Japan; an international release date and associated distributor has not yet been revealed.

Unfortunately, fans outside Japan will likely have to wait until Spring 2024 or more likely, Summer 2024 before the film is made available either in theatres or via streaming platforms – Crunchyroll is arguably the most likely destination for the film, with the anime currently being broadcast.

In a celebratory comment shared to the recently launched website, lead actor Kento Yamazaki acknowledged that he has “felt a lot of pressure because ‘Golden Kamuy’ is a very popular original story, but when I heard about the project, I was convinced that it would be fun” adding that, “It was also great for me to be able to take on a new challenge with a team that I trust.”

“In the role of Sugimoto, I wanted to portray a man who overcomes obstacles and regains lost or forgotten senses. As I got older, I think I was able to show a lot of things that I have never shown before. When I met the original author, Mr. Noda, he told me that he was on my side, which made me very happy and reassured me. During the filming, I felt a sense of accomplishment as we carefully created each scene one by one in the great outdoors and on gorgeous sets. I am looking forward to the completion of the film.”

The Golden Kamuy live action movie will be directed by Shigeaki Kubo, who is best-known for producing the High & Low films as well as the 2020 movie God of Novels.
