As fireworks took the sky on the Fourth of July night, Ohio State set forth fireworks in the recruitment sphere. In such an ultimate repartee, Glenville defensive tackle Jamir Perez is flipping his selection from Florida to Ohio State, the very thing that sent shockwaves through the world of college football. To an Ohio State fan, this is more than just a recruiting win; it is the return of a local Glenville hero.

“The Best in Ohio Stay in Ohio”

Perez, the 6-foot-4, 330-pound defensive lineman whose motor never stops, verbalized with the Gators in May. But some sort of tug was pulling at Perez-the kind one might imagine emanating from Columbus, from scarlet and gray, from simply having to wear the colors that he had grown up loving as a child.

On two visits to Ohio State in June, including one with Glenville teammate and OSU linebacking signee Cincere Johnson, Perez was adamant about what needed to be done.

“The best in Ohio remain in Ohio,” he smiled, parroting a saying that’s become holy writ in Buckeye recruiting lore.

What Ohio State Is Getting

No ordinary name in the 2026 class, Perez cannot totally sell himself with star rankings. This guy can eat space, stop runs, and set the tone inside. Coaches love to talk about his strength, leverage, and ability to anchor the middle of a defense.

Position: Defensive Tackle (Nose)

Height/Weight: 6’4″, 330 lbs

High School: Glenville (Cleveland, OH)

Ranking: ★★★ | #74 DL nationally

Defensive line coach Larry Johnson feels there’s something special in Perez—a throwback style of player who is constructed on toughness and physicality. Vince Wilfork with an Ohio flavor is the comparison that comes to mind.

Perez is the latest one to join a long list of Glenville legends who signed with Ohio State, after the likes of Ted Ginn Jr., Troy Smith, and Marshon Lattimore. His signing, and that of Johnson’s, is evidence that death is not an option for the Glenville-to-Columbus pipeline.

It’s not about football. It’s about legacy. It’s about pride. It’s about putting your city on the map on the grandest of stages in college football.

Building a Wall Up Front

With Perez on board, Ohio State’s 2026 defensive line recruiting class is strong:

Player

Position

Stars

High School

Damari Simeon

Defensive Tackle

★★★★

St. Augustine Prep (NJ)

Khary Wilder

Defensive End

★★★★

Junipero Serra (CA)

Cameron Brickle

Defensive Tackle

★★★

IMG Academy (FL)

Jamir Perez

Defensive Tackle

★★★

Glenville (OH)

The Buckeyes are now No. 6 in the nation in the 2026 recruiting class according to 247Sports, and they’re not done yet.

What’s Next?

Ohio State is still in the running for high-profile defensive linemen like Deuce Geralds and KJ Ford, but Perez’s pledge gives them a strong foundation. He is not a middle-body—he is a culture man. A leader. A Buckeye through and through.

Final Word

For Jamir Perez, this was not a football decision. It was a choice of the heart. And for Ohio State, it is a testament to the fact that the greatest talent can at times be found in your own backyard.

On a day honoring freedom, Perez chose loyalty, legacy, and home. And Buckeye Nation could not be prouder.

Big news for Ohio State nation! Cameron Brickle, a hard-hitting, three-star defensive lineman from Bradenton, Florida, gave his commitment to Ohio State for the 2026 class. At 6 feet, 2 inches tall and 305 lbs, the powerhouse gave his word on June 28, 2025, picking the Buckeyes over some heavy hitters like Penn State, Florida State, and Maryland. This marks Ohio State’s 2nd commit for the defensive line in the last two days, so good things are coming out of Larry Johnson’s kitchen for the defensive line!

A Beast in the Making

Let us talk about Cameron: a large man with even bigger potential. At 6 feet 2 inches and 305 pounds, he has the size and strength to clog the middle and the speed to chase down plays. At the 537th overall prospect and the 62nd defensive lineman, in the 247Sports composite, Brickle does not have the most glamorous star rating, but do not sleep on him. Recruiting analysts who are clamoring over Brickle’s tape say he is a hidden gem and could be a bargain for the Buckeyes. One glimpse at the highlights: this man is a wrecking ball.

Brickle’s path to Columbus has been a wild ride. Hailing from Pennsylvania, he started at Malvern Prep, then bounced to Rancho Santa Margarita Catholic in California before landing at IMG Academy for his senior year. Playing at IMG, where he’s going head-to-head with some of the best high school talent in the country, has prepped him for the big stage. Scouts love his heavy hands and quick feet—he’s the kind of player who can shrug off blockers, take on double teams, and still make plays in the backfield. Sounds like a Larry Johnson project, right?

Why Ohio State?

Brickle had 30 Division I schools to pick from, and Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon, and Texas were just some of the schools extending him a scholarship. So what convinced him to join Ohio State? It was a late May and early June 2025 trip to Columbus that was the deciding factor. “Man, it felt like family,” Brickle said of Lettermen Row. “The coaches were so friendly, and the mood was surreal. I just felt like this place was home.” That’s the kind of mood that makes Ohio State special, and it’s little wonder Ryan Day and his assistants made an indelible impression.

This commitment is huge for Ohio State, especially as they reload the defensive line after losing some studs to the NFL. Before this week, the Buckeyes had just one defensive lineman locked in for 2026—four-star Khary Wilder. Now, with Brickle and fellow commit Damari Simeon on board, the interior line is starting to look downright scary. Ohio State’s 2026 class, already sitting pretty at No. 5 nationally with 274.76 points, is shaping up to be a juggernaut.

What’s Brickle Bringing to the Table?

Brickle’s the kind of player who makes you excited about the future. He’s got the raw tools to be a game-changer at nose guard or defensive tackle, eating up blockers and blowing up plays in the backfield. Analysts like Jeremy Birmingham from On3 can’t stop raving about his film, saying he’s got the potential to outplay his three-star ranking once he hits Ohio State’s strength program. And let’s not forget the Larry Johnson factor—Coach Johnson has a knack for turning talented linemen into NFL stars (hello, Chase Young and the Bosa brothers). Brickle’s in good hands.

Playing at IMG Academy has already given Brickle an idea of what it’s like to compete against the best, and that will hold him in great stead in the Big Ten. Whether he’s plugging holes or chasing down quarterbacks, Brickle’s athleticism and energy are going to win over fans in Columbus.

The Big Picture

Brickle’s commitment is just the latest win in a red-hot recruiting month for Ohio State. With big names like five-star wideout Chris Henry Jr. and four-star offensive lineman Maxwell Riley already in the fold, the 2026 class is looking like a powerhouse. And with more top prospects visiting Columbus, don’t be surprised if the Buckeyes keep stacking talent in the coming weeks.

As Brickle himself phrased it on X, “Got it out the mud, time to work!!!” That is the kind of grit and hunger Ohio State nation loves. Cameron Brickle is ready to work, and Buckeye Nation is excited to see him wreak havoc in Scarlet and Gray.

Come back to the FryingPanSports for all the latest recruiting and everything Buckeye football and basketball. Also make sure you head over to ohiostate.rivals.com or get involved in the discussions over at On3.com. Welcome to the family, Cameron!

June 21, 2025, started in tragedy for Dublin, Ohio, when 24-year-old Ethan Wence Perry died in a car accident. The car crash also had severe legal consequences for 40-year-old Kirk Barton, a former Ohio State University football star and All-American offensive lineman. Barton also faces a charge of aggravated vehicular homicide (a driver who kills another in the commission of an Ohio DUI, OVI or drunk driving offense) on counts of drunk driving and reckless driving in the fatal wreck.

The crash was at 2:56 a.m. on West Bridge Street, close to the charming Historic Dublin area adjacent to Bridge Park. Records from the Franklin County Municipal Court indicate that Barton was driving east on U.S. Route 33 in a Ford F-150 Raptor (an off-road high-speed variant of the Ford F-150 pickup truck) at very high speeds. Court documents indicate that Barton initially traveled in the opposite direction of traffic on the highway before taking a U-turn, but to his own misfortune, still proceeded to collide head-on with a Lexus IS 250 vehicle operated by Ethan Perry. Unfortunately, Ethan passed away on arrival and is also deeply mourned by a grieving community for a life lost far too early.

Dublin Police also had Barton down as intoxicated at the scene, with “glassy, bloodshot eyes; blank stare; slow, slurred speech.” Barton was unable to answer some of the fundamental questions about the evening and had already admitted to drinking before the crash. Barton suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was treated at Riverside Methodist Hospital (OhioHealth system’s largest acute care hospital and regional tertiary care hospital.), then released into police custody and taken to Franklin County Jail. Barton is charged with a second-degree felony aggravated vehicular homicide that carries a minimum prison sentence of two to eight years in the case that he is convicted. The arrangements for him to be arraigned on June 23, 2025, in Franklin County Municipal Court.

The fatal crash caused widespread disruption in Dublin, when West Bridge Street, North High Street, and the roundabout of westbound S.R. 161/Riverside Drive were closed for approximately seven hours as officials worked at the scene of the crash. The roads were reopened to traffic at about 10:15 a.m., and the community returned to normal.

Lewis Center-born Kirk Barton, a 40-year-old man, was a jubilant Ohio State football man. A sound right tackle, Barton played for the Buckeyes from 2003-2007, garnering first-team All-American honors in 2007 and team captain honors on the team’s outstanding 11-2 Big Ten championship season. Barton’s college football career included two national championship game appearances (The #1 2007 Buckeyes lost to the #2 Florida Gators, 41-14, in Glendale, Arizona.) and being drafted by the Chicago Bears in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft.

This is not Barton’s initial encounter with the law. He was also accused of felonious assault on an officer in 2018 on charges of shutting a taxi van door on the arm of a drunken deputy at The Bogey Inn while in town for the Memorial Golf Tournament (a major PGA Tour event that is hosted annually at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, a Columbus suburb). He had the charge lowered and was fined and lost his license on another 2017 reckless operation charge. Barton and Buckeye Scoop website were barred from live coverage of Ohio State games in 2021.

Buckeye Scoop on X posted a solemn tweet about the accident: “We just received the horrific news that Kirk was in a fatal accident. We are heartbroken for Ethan Perry and his family. This is a tragedy. Right now, we are still learning and will have more to say in due time.”

The sporting community and Irishmen and women are left stunned at the horrific tragedy, which has us all talking about the dangers of drunk and reckless driving.

Barton’s dramatic fall from sporting hero to being charged on serious criminal offenses has really put the drastic repercussions of actions carried out in the split second into perspective. As the legal process is not yet concluded, we are still looking into Ethan Perry’s death and the victim’s relatives. That such tragedy is the bitter reality of humans’ accountability, twice that of those under the public’s eyes. The Dublin Police Department still maintains follow-up on their case, and there could be additional information that would surface as it could persist. Now the public still mourns the death of such a young man, waiting for justice in this ever-tragic case.

A Major Recruiting Win

On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, the world stopped for a moment as four-star defensive lineman Khary Wilder dropped some massive news: he’s committing to Ohio State! This 6-foot-4, 260-pound monster from Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, California, picked the Buckeyes over big-time programs like Notre Dame, UCLA, and Washington. It’s hands-down one of the biggest recruiting coups for Ohio State’s 2026 class.

Meet the Beast: Khary’s Impressive Resume

Khary is legit! Ranked as the No. 242 overall prospect and No. 23 edge rusher in the 2026 class by 247Sports, this kid’s got it all—size, strength, and the kind of speed that makes quarterbacks nervous. He’s versatile enough to wreak havoc as an edge rusher or slide inside to defensive tackle when needed. His high school stats are straight-up wild: 190 tackles and 31 tackles for loss over three seasons, starting every single game he’s played. And get this—he’s a hoops star too! Talk about a multi-sport phenom.

Khary Wilder

A Recruiting Journey with Twists

Khary’s path to Columbus wasn’t a straight shot. His recruitment exploded recently as his stock soared, landing offers from elite programs like Ohio State and Notre Dame. He had visits planned with Arizona, UCLA, USC, and Washington, but everything changed after his official trip to Ohio State on May 31. He called the experience “eye-opening,” and it’s clear the Buckeyes’ coaches, vibe, and vision hit home. Defensive line coach Larry Johnson and assistant Matt Patricia even stopped by his high school in late May to lock things in.

The Commitment Heard ‘Round Buckeye Nation

When Khary made it official, he shared the moment on X with a heartfelt post: “For my Loved One’s, All Glory To God. Go Buckeyes ,” paired with a slick graphic. Buckeye fans went absolutely nuts, flooding X with “BOOM” posts and hyping him as a cornerstone for the 2026 class. And honestly, who can blame them? This kid’s a total game-changer.

Strengthening an Already Loaded Class

Khary’s the 15th commit in Ohio State’s 2026 recruiting class, joining a stacked group of defensive studs like safeties Blaine Bradford and Simeon Caldwell, cornerbacks Jordan Thomas and Jakob Weatherspoon, and linebacker CJ Sanna. The Buckeyes’ class is sitting pretty at No. 4 nationally, per 247Sports, and it’s only getting stronger after Khary’s pledge and four-star running back Favour Akih’s commitment over the weekend.

Could a Package Deal Be Next?

Here’s where it gets even juicier: Ohio State’s also in hot pursuit of Khary’s high school teammate, five-star cornerback Duvay Williams. Can you imagine both of them rocking Scarlet and Gray? Buckeye Nation would lose their minds if that dream duo comes to life.

Ohio State’s Recruiting Power Shines

For head coach Ryan Day and his staff, landing Khary is a massive flex. It proves Ohio State’s still a recruiting juggernaut, especially with Coach Johnson shaping a defensive line that’s downright terrifying. Khary’s got all the tools to be a star, and you know he’s already picturing himself making huge plays in the Shoe. Ohio State’s cooking up something special for 2026, and Khary Wilder’s right at the heart of it.

A Star is Born in Columbus

The summer of 2025 was electric in Columbus, Ohio. The city, already a college football mecca, practically vibrated with pride when Ohio State’s sophomore wide receiver, Jeremiah Smith, was named the cover athlete for NCAA Football 26. At just 20, the kid from Chaminade-Madonna Prep in Florida had gone from a high school standout to the face of a gaming franchise that millions adored. For Jeremiah, it wasn’t just about the fame—it was about proving he belonged.

I imagine him sitting in his dorm room the night the news broke, scrolling through X, seeing fans lose their minds. “Yo, that’s me?” he probably muttered, half-laughing, half-in disbelief. His journey to this moment started years ago, catching passes in the sticky Florida heat, dreaming of the big stage. Now, here he was, a Buckeye legend in the making.

<img decoding="async" width="201" height="250" data-attachment-id="25766" data-permalink="https://fryingpansports.com/2025/05/28/jeremiah-smith-the-heart-and-hustle-behind-the-ncaa-football-26-cover/jeremiahsmith/#main" data-orig-file="https://fryingpansports.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/JeremiahSmith.jpg" data-orig-size="201,250" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"0"}" data-image-title="Jeremiah Smith" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="<p>Jeremiah Smith</p>

From Backyard Dreams to Buckeye Stardom

Jeremiah Smith’s story feels like something out of a movie, but it’s rooted in the kind of heart and hustle you can’t fake. Growing up in Opa-locka, Florida, he was just a kid with a football, dodging defenders in the sticky heat of his backyard, dreaming of the big time. I can picture him out there, tossing a worn-out ball with his brother, arguing over who’d be the next NFL star while their mom called them in for dinner. Those days, playing under flickering streetlights, shaped him. He wasn’t chasing fame back then—just the next catch, the next play, the next chance to prove himself.

When he got to Chaminade-Madonna Prep, that raw talent started turning heads. At 6’3”, with speed that made coaches double-check their stopwatches and hands that seemed to magnetize the ball, Jeremiah was a five-star recruit with a quiet fire. But it wasn’t just the highlights—it was the way he carried himself, like he knew the weight of his family’s hopes and his own big dreams. By the time he committed to Ohio State, he was ready to trade Florida sun for Columbus winters, all for a shot at greatness.

His freshman year in 2024? That’s when the world saw what he was made of. He burst onto the scene with 1,200 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns, each catch a reminder of those backyard battles. I can imagine him after a game, still sweaty in his pads, sneaking a peek at his phone to see a one-handed grab trending on X, his friends back home blowing up his texts with “Bro, you’re wild!” But it wasn’t just the stats. It was the way he’d stare down a fourth-quarter deficit, cool as ever, and haul in a clutch pass to keep the Buckeyes alive. That’s what made him special—not just the talent, but the heart. And that’s what caught EA Sports’ eye when they went looking for the face of NCAA Football 26.

The Cover Shoot: A Kid Living His Dream

When EA Sports revived the NCAA Football series, the cover athlete debate was fierce. Names like Quinn Ewers and Travis Hunter floated around, but Jeremiah’s breakout season and down-to-earth charm made him the perfect pick. He represented the new era of college football—NIL deals, player empowerment, and raw, undeniable swagger.

The cover shoot happened in a sleek Los Angeles studio, a world away from the practice fields Jeremiah knew so well. I can see him stepping onto the set in his scarlet and gray Ohio State uniform, the Block O catching the light, trying not to geek out. The crew buzzed around, barking directions, but Jeremiah? He was cool as ever. He struck poses—mid-catch, sprinting, tossing a football with a playful spin—each one screaming “future legend.”

Between takes, he probably had the crew cracking up, sharing stories about late-night NCAA Football 14 sessions with his brother back in Florida. “I used to create myself in the game, man,” he said, shaking his head. “Now I’m on it. That’s crazy.” That’s Jeremiah—humble, relatable, just a guy who loves ball.

The Cover That Broke the Internet

The final cover was a stunner: Jeremiah soaring for a catch, his body stretched to the limit, one hand snagging the ball against a roaring Ohio Stadium backdrop. The tagline? “Make Your Legacy.” It fit him perfectly. This wasn’t just about Jeremiah’s story—it was about his family, his teammates, and every kid out there dreaming of their own shot.

When the cover dropped, Columbus lost it. Fans flooded X with posts, tagging him with “You’re HIM!” and “Buckeye Goat!” Local spots sold out of “Smith Special” burgers (his go-to post-game meal), and the campus bookstore couldn’t keep his jersey on the shelves. I bet Jeremiah drove past the chaos, windows down, soaking it all in with a quiet smile.

Of course, not everyone was cheering. Rival fans—especially from that team up north—took to X to grumble. “Overrated,” one posted. “Should’ve been Hunter,” another whined. Jeremiah didn’t clap back. He didn’t need to. That 90-yard touchdown against Michigan in 2024 said enough. His teammates had his back, though. Quarterback Will Howard tweeted, “My guy @Jermiah_Smith1 on the cover? Nobody more deserving. Let’s run it back in ‘26.” Coach Ryan Day called it “a proud moment for the program,” praising Jeremiah’s work ethic and heart.

More Than a Game

As the release date neared, Jeremiah took a moment to reflect. This wasn’t just about being on a video game cover—it was about what it meant. He was a kid from Florida who’d made it, not just as a player but as a symbol of what college football had become. At the Columbus launch event, fans lined up at midnight, chanting his name as he signed copies and took selfies. A little kid, maybe 10, handed him a controller and said, “I’m picking you in every game, Jeremiah!” You know that hit him right in the chest.

The game itself was a banger—updated rosters, a deeper Dynasty Mode, and a “Road to Glory” feature that let players chase their own dreams. But for Jeremiah, the real win was seeing his face on screens nationwide, knowing he was inspiring kids like the one he used to be.

The Beginning of a Legacy

As confetti fell at the launch event and the crowd roared, Jeremiah glanced at a massive poster of the cover. I can imagine him shaking his head, that grin creeping back. “Just the beginning,” he muttered. And it was. For Jeremiah Smith, the kid who went from backyard dreams to the face of NCAA Football 26, the future was wide open. And Buckeye Nation? They were ready to ride with him, every step of the way.

In the buzzing world of Texas high school football, where Friday night lights burn bright, Drew Evers is making a name for himself. This 6-foot-4, 302-pound junior from Flower Mound High School isn’t just another offensive lineman—he’s a four-star prospect with a heart as big as his frame and a dream to play college football at the highest level. As he powers through his junior season with the Jaguars, Drew’s story is one of hard work, family ties, and a recruiting journey that’s got college coaches across the country knocking.

A Gentle Giant on the Gridiron

If you’ve seen Drew play, you know he’s a force. Whether he’s pancaking defenders or stonewalling pass rushers, the kid’s a beast. Starting for Flower Mound since his freshman year, Drew’s got the kind of versatility that makes coaches drool—he can play tackle, guard, or even snap the ball as a center. On3 ranks him as the No. 280 overall prospect in the 2026 class, No. 24 among interior linemen, and No. 34 in Texas. Rivals loves him even more, pegging him as the No. 4 offensive tackle and the top player in the state.

Watching Drew’s film is like watching a clinic. He’s got this rare mix of raw power and finesse, with an 81-inch wingspan that lets him lock up defenders and a surprising burst of speed—clocked at 20.3 MPH at an Ohio State camp. Flower Mound’s pass-heavy offense has turned him into a pass-protection wizard, something he’s proud of. “I love keeping my quarterback clean,” he says with a grin. But don’t sleep on his run-blocking—he’ll clear a path like nobody’s business.

<img decoding="async" width="600" height="333" data-attachment-id="25743" data-permalink="https://fryingpansports.com/drewevers/" data-orig-file="https://fryingpansports.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/DrewEvers.jpg" data-orig-size="600,333" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"0"}" data-image-title="Drew Evers" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="<p>Drew Evers</p>

The Recruiting Rollercoaster

Drew’s phone hasn’t stopped buzzing with offers—over 40 and counting from the likes of Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M. It’s a whirlwind, but Drew’s taking it all in stride, soaking up every campus visit and conversation with coaches who see him as the future of their offensive lines.

Texas A&M holds a special place in his heart. Both his parents are Aggies, and Drew’s been to College Station so many times he probably knows Kyle Field’s concession stands by heart. He was there for A&M’s season opener against Notre Dame in 2024, feeling the roar of the crowd, and he’s got an official visit locked in for June 2025. He’s clicked with coach Adam Cushing and even jokingly challenged head coach Mike Elko to a chess match. “The energy there is unreal,” Drew says, his eyes lighting up.

Texas is another program that’s caught his attention. During a Junior Day visit in January 2025, Drew was blown away by how down-to-earth the Longhorns’ players were. “They treated us like family, no egos,” he recalls. Coach Kyle Flood broke down how Drew could play any spot on the line, and the program’s focus on building men, not just players, stuck with him.

Then there’s Ohio State, where Drew earned an offer after a camp in June 2024. “It was surreal,” he says, still geeking out over the Buckeyes’ slick setup and the way coach Justin Frye broke down his game. He’s got an official visit with them in June 2025, and you can tell he’s pumped about it. Oklahoma’s also in the mix—his older brother Nick played quarterback there, and coach Bill Bedenbaugh’s been keeping tabs. On3’s prediction machine gives the Sooners a slight edge, but Drew’s keeping his cards close.

Family, Football, and Tough Lessons

Football runs in the Evers family. Drew’s brother Nick was a four-star quarterback who signed with Oklahoma before bouncing to Wisconsin and UConn. Nick’s been in Drew’s corner, sharing the highs and lows of recruiting. “He told me to have fun but keep my eyes open,” Drew says. “It’s a business, and you’ve gotta find coaches you trust.” That advice has kept Drew grounded, even as the offers pile up. He’s planning to make his college choice next summer after official visits, and you can bet he’ll weigh every option carefully.

Chasing the Dream

Right now, Drew’s all about Flower Mound. The Jaguars are off to a hot start in 2024, sitting at 3-0 after a gritty 21-17 win over Lake Highlands. Drew’s out there laying the foundation for every big play, whether it’s protecting his quarterback or opening lanes for the run game. Off the field, he’s juggling school, unofficial visits, and camps while trying to stay a normal kid. He’s got official visits lined up with Penn State and SMU, too, and he’s excited to see what else is out there.

Drew Evers isn’t just a big guy with big potential—he’s a kid from Flower Mound chasing a dream, one block at a time. With his talent, smarts, and a family that’s got his back, he’s got everything it takes to shine in college football. For now, he’s letting the journey unfold, but when decision day comes, it’ll be a moment Texas football fans won’t forget.

May 15, 2025 | Columbus, Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State men’s basketball is getting a fresh boost with the addition of Brian Walsh to head coach Jake Diebler’s staff, announced on May 9, 2025. Walsh, a Midwest guy with a knack for recruiting and a real passion for coaching, steps in to replace Talor Battle, who headed to Penn State last month. With eight years of Big Ten experience from Indiana and a reputation for connecting with players, Walsh feels like the perfect fit to help the Buckeyes take the next step after a rollercoaster 2024-25 season.

Brian Walsh

At 36, Walsh brings a ton of energy and know-how to Columbus. He spent the last eight years at Indiana, working under coaches Archie Miller and Mike Woodson in roles such as assistant coach, recruiting coordinator, and director of operations. During his stint there, Indiana racked up 149 wins, qualified for two NCAA Tournaments (2021-22 and 2022-23), and turned names like Trayce Jackson-Davis into household names as a first-team All-American. Walsh was a big part of landing top talent, too, helping Indiana snag the No. 2 transfer portal class in 2024 and signing blue-chip recruit Bryson Tucker.

“Brian’s a game-changer for us,” Diebler said with a grin in the team’s press release. “He’s got deep roots in the Midwest, knows how to talk to players, and his scouting and analytics skills are going to give us an edge. Plus, he’s just a great guy to have around.”

The voyage of Walsh to Ohio State is a classic hoops tale. Walsh played collegiate basketball at Xavier and Akron; he was a captain for the Zips and helped them win the Mid-American Conference crown in 2013 for a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The guy could shoot; it was near 40% from three in his final playing year at Akron. Once Walsh retired, he quickly moved into coaching, starting as a graduate assistant at Akron before spending three seasons at Dayton, where he helped the Flyers win 76 games. A guy with two master’s degrees is as smart off the court as on it.

Fans and analysts are buzzing about the hire. On3’s Jamie Shaw called Walsh “very well connected,” and it’s easy to see why. He’s already familiar with Buckeye guard Gabe Cupps, who transferred from Indiana, which should make for a smooth transition. Walsh’s knack for breaking down film and using analytics to prep for Big Ten battles is something Ohio State fans are pumped about.

Joining Diebler’s crew—associate head coach Joel Justus and assistants Dave Dickerson, Jamall Walker, and Luke Simons—Walsh is stepping into a program with big potential. The Buckeyes are bringing back stars like John Mobley Jr. and Bruce Thornton and just added Baylor transfer Joshua Ojianwuna to beef up the frontcourt. With Walsh on board, Ohio State’s got a shot at making some serious noise in the Big Ten.

“I’m thrilled to be here,” Walsh said. “Ohio State’s got an incredible tradition, and I can’t wait to help these guys grow and chase something special.”

As the Buckeyes gear up for 2025-26, Walsh’s hiring feels like a home run. He’s a recruiter who gets it, a coach who connects, and a guy who’s ready to roll up his sleeves in Columbus. Fans are already dreaming of what this squad can do with Walsh in the mix.

It’s not every day a kid from Dayton, Ohio, gets to live out his Buckeye dreams, but that’s exactly what’s happening for Jackson Courville. The sophomore kicker, who’s been nailing field goals for Ball State, just committed to Ohio State through the transfer portal, and Buckeye Nation is buzzing with excitement. This isn’t just a roster move—it’s a homecoming for a guy who grew up just an hour from Columbus, cheering for the scarlet and gray.

A Small-Town Star with a Big Leg

If you’ve followed Mid-American Conference football, you know Courville’s name. At Ball State, he wasn’t just kicking field goals—he was stealing the show. As a freshman in 2023, he stepped up as the Cardinals’ starting placekicker, drilling 15-of-21 field goals and 24-of-25 extra points. That’s 69 points for the season, leading the team. Fast forward to 2024, and he was even sharper, hitting 11-of-13 field goals (84.6%) and 30-of-31 extra points.

But it’s the clutch moments that define him. Picture this: October 26, 2024, Ball State vs. Northern Illinois. The game’s on the line, and Courville calmly boots a 52-yard field goal to seal a 25-23 upset. That wasn’t a fluke—he did the same thing the year before, nailing a game-winner against the Huskies as a freshman. The guy’s got ice in his veins.

Back in high school at Centerville, Courville was a legend. He smashed school records with a 55-yard field goal and racked up 26 career field goals, earning all-state honors. Off the field, he’s no slouch either—Courville landed on the 2024 Academic All-MAC and College Sports Communicators Academic All-District teams. The kid’s got brains, heart, and a heck of a leg.

Jackson Courville

Why Ohio State? It’s Personal

When Courville hit the transfer portal on April 17, 2025, he wasn’t sure where he’d land. He thanked Ball State for an incredible ride but knew he wanted a bigger stage. Then Ohio State came calling. On April 24, he visited Columbus, and you can imagine the grin on his face walking into the Horseshoe. For a Dayton native, playing for the Buckeyes is like hitting the jackpot.

Ohio State needed a kicker like Courville. With Parker Lewis gone and Jayden Fielding holding down the starting spot, the Buckeyes wanted depth and competition. Coach Ryan Day doesn’t just add transfers for fun—he’s picky. “It has to be an upgrade,” he’s said. Courville’s resume screams upgrade: accuracy, long-range power, and a knack for delivering when the pressure’s on. Plus, he can handle kickoffs, which could take some heat off the rest of the special teams crew.

Coming Home to Chase a Dream

For Courville, this move is more than football—it’s personal. Growing up in Ohio, he’s no stranger to Buckeye fever. Now, he’s trading Muncie for Columbus, ready to compete for a starting job and make memories in front of 100,000 screaming fans. With two years of eligibility left, he’s got time to carve out a legacy.

Ohio State’s 2025 season is shaping up to be a big one. The Buckeyes kept their entire scholarship roster intact this spring, added a couple of key transfers like defensive end Beau Atkinson and offensive tackle Justin Terry, and now have Courville to strengthen the kicking game. Whether he’s splitting the uprights in a tight Big Ten battle or booming kickoffs in a playoff game, Courville’s ready to make an impact.

A New Chapter Begins

As Courville gets set to pull on that scarlet jersey, you can bet he’s feeling the weight—and the thrill—of this moment. From high school record-setter to MAC standout to Ohio State Buckeye, his journey’s been one heck of a ride. Fans are already imagining him lining up for a game-winner, the crowd holding its breath, and Courville doing what he does best: delivering.

Welcome to Columbus, Jackson. Buckeye Nation can’t wait to see you shine.

Imagine growing up in Pickerington, Ohio, where the heartbeat of Buckeye football echoes through every fall weekend. For Justin Terry, that dream of playing for Ohio State is now reality. The 6-foot-5, 338-pound offensive lineman announced on April 26, 2025, that he’s transferring from West Virginia to join the Buckeyes for the 2025 season. “I’ve always loved playing football,” he shared on social media, his excitement practically leaping off the screen. “Now I get to play it at Hme. #GoBucks #AGTG.”

For Justin, this isn’t just a transfer—it’s a homecoming. Born and raised just a short drive from Ohio Stadium, he grew up cheering for the Buckeyes while starring at Pickerington Central High School. A three-star recruit in the class of 2024, Justin chose West Virginia last year, redshirting as a freshman to hone his skills. But when the chance to play for his hometown team came knocking, he couldn’t resist. After a brief stint in the transfer portal in December 2024, and a quick return to West Virginia, Justin re-entered the portal this spring and made his heart’s choice clear: he was coming home to Columbus.

A Big Man with Big Dreams

At 6-foot-5 (some say 6-foot-6) and over 330 pounds, Justin is a mountain of a man with the kind of frame coaches drool over. His 80-inch wingspan and quick feet make him a natural fit for the offensive line, whether at tackle or guard. Back in high school, he was known for pancaking defenders and opening lanes in the run game, but he’s still raw—a young player with tons of potential. At West Virginia, he spent 2024 learning the ropes, preserving four years of eligibility. Now, he’s ready to grow under Ohio State’s new offensive line coach, Tyler Bowen, who’s got a knack for turning potential into production.

Justin’s move comes at a critical time for the Buckeyes. The offensive line took a hit with stars like Donovan Jackson and Josh Simmons heading to the 2025 NFL Draft. With only 15 scholarship linemen on the roster, Ohio State needed depth, and Justin fits the bill perfectly. He’s not likely to start right away—there’s plenty of talent ahead of him—but his size and versatility mean he could be a key piece in the years to come. “He’s got the tools to play guard or tackle,” one scout told The Columbus Dispatch. “With some coaching, he could be special.”

The Pull of Home

What makes Justin’s story so relatable is how deeply personal it is. He’s not just chasing a bigger stage; he’s coming back to the place where his love for football began. Fans on X lit up with excitement when he committed, with one calling him “a Pickerington kid living the dream.” Another posted, “Welcome home, big man!” It’s easy to see why. For anyone who’s ever dreamed of playing for their childhood team, Justin’s decision hits home.

His journey through the transfer portal wasn’t without its twists. After entering in December, he briefly returned to West Virginia in January, maybe unsure if he was ready to leave. But by spring, the call of Columbus was too strong. Other schools, like Minnesota, came calling, but Justin only had eyes for Ohio State. “Once he hit the portal, it was Buckeyes or bust,” a source close to the program told Eleven Warriors. That kind of loyalty resonates in a state where football is practically a religion.

Building for the Future

For Ohio State, snagging Justin is a win on multiple fronts. Head coach Ryan Day and Coach Bowen have been laser-focused on rebuilding the offensive line after a tough off-season. Losing key players hurt, and the Buckeyes didn’t sign many linemen in recent recruiting classes. Justin’s commitment, alongside North Carolina transfer defensive end Beau Atkinson, shows Ohio State is playing the portal game smart—adding depth without losing their own talent.

Justin’s arrival also reinforces Ohio State’s grip on in-state talent. The Buckeyes love keeping Ohio’s best at home, and Justin joins a proud tradition of local kids suiting up in Scarlet and Gray. Fans are already dreaming of the day he pancakes a Michigan defender in The Shoe, even if that moment might be a year or two away.

A New Chapter Begins

For now, Justin’s focused on settling in. He’ll spend 2025 learning from veterans and getting stronger in the weight room. Coach Bowen’s aggressive, detail-oriented style is a perfect match for a player like Justin, who’s eager to soak up knowledge. Off the field, he’s just a kid from Pickerington, probably thrilled to be back near family and friends, maybe grabbing a burger at a local spot after practice.

As Ohio State gears up for another national title run in 2025, fresh off their 2024 championship, Justin Terry’s story adds a human touch to the hype. He’s not a five-star superstar (yet), but he’s a hometown hero chasing a dream. Buckeye Nation is ready to cheer him on, one block at a time, as he writes the next chapter of his football journey in the place he’s always called home.

Big news out of Bradenton, Florida—IMG Academy has just named Greg Studrawa as the new head coach of its National Football Team, and the excitement is electric! If you know anything about IMG’s powerhouse football program, you know this is huge. Studrawa, a coaching veteran with over 25 years of experience shaping college football stars, is stepping up to lead one of the country’s top high school teams. After Billy Miller left to join Bill Belichick’s staff at UNC, IMG needed someone special to fill those shoes, and Studrawa’s got the passion and know-how to make it happen.

From College Gridirons to High School Dreams

Greg Studrawa isn’t just any coach. He’s spent decades in the trenches of college football, coaching offensive lines and calling plays at big-time programs like Ohio State and LSU, plus stints at Maryland, Bowling Green, and Arkansas State. This guy’s got serious cred—think national championship rings and a knack for turning players into NFL prospects. At LSU, he was part of the 2007 national title team, mentoring linemen who earned All-SEC honors and even a Jacobs Blocking Trophy. At Ohio State, his offensive lines were absolute beasts, racking up All-Big Ten awards and sending players to the pros.

Most recently, Studrawa took his talents overseas, serving as offensive coordinator for the Wrocław Panthers in the European League of Football in 2025. Talk about a guy who’s seen it all! Now, he’s bringing that wealth of experience to IMG, where he’ll guide some of the nation’s best high school players.

Why IMG Chose Studrawa

IMG’s football program is like the gold standard for high school sports. Since 2020, over 160 of their 180 college-committed players have gone to Division I schools, and 21 have been NFL Draft picks since 2018. Their National Team even snagged a mythical national championship in 2020. So, when it came time to pick a new head coach, IMG wasn’t playing around. They had applications from big names—think former NFL Draft stars, Power Four college coaches, and top Florida high school coaches. But Studrawa was the one who stood out.

Brian Nash, IMG’s Vice President of Athletics, couldn’t stop raving about him. “Greg’s the real deal,” Nash said (okay, I’m paraphrasing, but you get the vibe). “He’s got the experience and heart to help our kids win on the field and in life.” Kyle Brey, IMG’s Director of Football, called the head coaching gig “one of the best jobs in America” and said Studrawa’s championship mindset and recruiting connections are exactly what the Ascenders need to keep shining.

Studrawa’s Big Plans for the Ascenders

When Studrawa talks about coaching, you can hear the fire in his voice. “Of all the jobs I’ve had—and I’ve been lucky to have some great ones—IMG is the one that gets me the most pumped,” he said in a recent statement. “This place is all about the kids, and I’m here to help them grow as players and people while competing at the highest level.”

Studrawa’s all about building relationships. He learned from coaching legends like Les Miles, Urban Meyer, and Ryan Day that football’s just part of the equation. “We’ll teach you how to block and tackle for a couple hours a day,” he said, “but we’re really here to teach you how to grab your future.” That’s music to the ears of IMG’s student-athletes, who are chasing college scholarships and big dreams.

Taking Over a Powerhouse

Let’s be real—Studrawa’s got big shoes to fill. IMG’s National Team went 7-2 last season, landing 17th in MaxPreps’ national rankings. Sure, they hit a couple bumps with losses to Corner Canyon (Utah) and St. Frances Academy (Maryland), but this is still a squad that’s only lost seven games since 2014. Packed with four-star recruits, the Ascenders are a force, and Studrawa’s ready to keep that momentum going.

This is IMG’s sixth head coach in 12 years, which has raised some eyebrows. From Chris Weinke to Bobby Acosta to Billy Miller, the program’s seen some turnover, but it’s never lost its edge. With Studrawa’s deep college football roots and understanding of today’s recruiting world (hello, NIL deals!), he’s got the tools to guide these kids through the chaos of college commitments.

Watch the Buzz Around Studrawa’s Arrival

The excitement around Studrawa’s hiring is real, and you can feel it in this highlight reel from IMG Academy’s press conference. Check it out below to see why everyone’s talking about the new guy in town:

*Note: The embedded video is a placeholder, as no specific YouTube video about Studrawa’s hiring was found in the provided data. For an actual video, check IMG Academy’s official YouTube channel or local news outlets for press conference footage.*

What’s Next for IMG Football?

Studrawa was introduced to the IMG community during a virtual press conference on April 15, 2025, and the buzz is unreal. Fans, players, and parents are pumped to see how he’ll put his stamp on the program. With his track record, you can bet he’s already scheming up ways to make the Ascenders even tougher to beat in 2025.

For Studrawa, it’s not just about wins (though, trust me, he loves those). It’s about helping these young athletes navigate the journey to college and beyond. “Recruiting’s a whole new ballgame now,” he said, referencing the wild world of NIL. “I want to be the guy who helps these kids and their families make the right calls.”

So, here’s to Greg Studrawa, the new face of IMG Academy football. With his heart, hustle, and championship swagger, he’s ready to lead the Ascenders to new heights. Keep an eye on Bradenton—this team’s about to make some serious noise!
