Top 5 Methods To Make Money Online

What makes this list unique is it’s based entirely on the methods I have personally used, so I can reveal to you what I did and what my results were. Bear in mind these methods represent ten years of working online, so I do not do all of them presently. At one point in my career however they were an income stream, and are still viable options for you.

This is not an all inclusive list, which means there are plenty of other ways you can make money, no doubt many of which are potentially much more profitable or better choices for your own situation. As a result you shouldn’t base your decisions on what methods you use solely on this list. Do your research and include this article as one resource.

This list isn’t strictly ordered based on my preferences from top to bottom. What I’ve done is listed the different things I did in a chronology of time of when I did them. It’s no coincidence however that as we get closer to the present (the end of the list), the more I personally like the method, and hence still use it. Over the years I made changes to how I made money in order to get closer to what I really wanted from my business.

1. Sell products from your own website

My first successful website was about the card game Magic: The Gathering. At first the site was just a hobby with articles written by me and a few friends. Eventually as traffic grew I began making some money with the site.

Since I was already a card trader it made sense that my Magic site have a Magic card store. At first I stocked the website with my own cards, and eventually added retail “sealed” (unopened packs of cards) by buying product at wholesale from a company in Sydney.

It was a very simple card shop made up of text listings of the cards I had for sale, the quantity available and the cost per card or per pack. I maintained the inventory myself from my room, sorting and listing cards online by hand using plain text. I didn’t use any software and most of the payments I received back then was via check or money order in the mail. Some kids would even send money and even coins (!) in the mail to pay for their purchase.

My business did well enough, although the manual labor was intense. Maintaining inventory lists, packing cards into envelopes and daily trips to the post office was not always the most fun way to spend my time, though I did enjoy having my own little business while in university.

Unfortunately my store was hit by credit card fraud when I foolishly sold a significant amount of product to an unknown person in Thailand. This experience was enough for me to decide that I had had enough of running a Magic shop and it was time to move on.

Selling Products Online Is A Big Opportunity

My first three experiences of making money from the Internet all involve some kind of physical product. Online commerce obviously represents a huge opportunity to make money online, and having your own product or a passion for a product that you can source can lead to big profits.

You can sell product from your own website store, via community sites and classifieds (like Craigslist) and of course eBay and collectively make good money. The challenge, like with any business, is defining what is your competitive advantage and can you come up with a model that meets your needs. For me selling physical product was a great proving ground, but I eventually learned that profiting from information was a preferable model if I wanted to meet my aforementioned business goals.

I’ll leave it in your hands to decide whether physical commerce is the way to go for your situation.

2. Sponsorship advertising on a content site

Once my card game site was successful I began researching how to make money from it. I sold cards initially because I already knew there was a market for that and I had the cards, but I was also aware that if I had an audience I could charge sponsors money to advertise to them.

Thus began my love affair with banner advertising.

Although challenging at times to find sponsors, I was quickly able to bring in several hundred dollars per month in advertising revenue by directly approaching online companies who I considered good targets for my readership. I emailed them and asked if they would like to pay a monthly fee to place a banner on my site. Most said no, but some said yes and eventually I had a couple of loyal sponsors.

Banner income would prove very reliable over time as long as I continued to do whatever I did to maintain and build a readership. This has continued today, where several sponsors pay a fee to advertise their products and services to you, the reader of this website.

Banner advertising, when set up using a system like I presently use, can be very hands off – in fact for me it’s entirely passive – assuming there is an audience that the sponsors benefit from advertising to. It’s difficult to make loads and loads of money just from banners unless you have significant traffic, but it is easy enough to make some money from it and once you do, it generally proves very reliable unless you stop updating your website.

I’d recommend this method to you if you have some kind of content based site or a community site that attracts enough traffic to make it worthwhile for sponsors. The best thing about banners is that they don’t have to replace any other income method you use, you can use this income stream in tandem with others.

3. Sell services you provide personally

At one stage early in my career when my online income wasn’t consistent, I was part of a business grant program run by the Australian government designed to assist entrepreneurs with money to pay for life’s necessities so you can focus on growing your business. The idea is that when your business is successful you will eventually hire people and pay taxes, thus the government reaps a return on the investment.

The grant ran for 12 months and I was under the assumption (incorrectly) that I had to show consistent income growth in order to maintain my qualification for the program. My income at the time always suffered a downturn around Christmas/Summer in Australia. To combat this problem I decided to teach English face-to-face with people in Brisbane to hopefully boost my reportable income.

To advertise my tutoring service I marketed using posters offline and eventually set up a website and marketed on classified sites as well. I charged $15 an hour and eventually had a few Korean clients. This idea eventually ballooned into a full on English school with a real world premises that I managed for eight months before closing down. It turned out to be an experiment that taught me I much preferred online business to bricks and mortar.

My English tutoring days were short lived, but that doesn’t mean selling some kind of service that you personally deliver isn’t still a viable option. The Internet is a fantastic place to market your services for free. Similar to what I talked about in the first three points, you can use online community sites, classified, forums and your own website to market your service.

The downside with this model is that you are still trading hours for dollars, which is a violation of my holy trinity concept. It’s not necessarily the worst option – and many people enjoy the life of a high-paid consultant very much – but it does have the inherent limitation that a service is not replicable unless you personally do it yourself or hire people to do it for you, both activities that take time and/or resources.

If you are good at something and enjoy helping/teaching/working on other people’s projects, selling what you do online is worth considering.

4. Sell services provided by other people

My next big success after my card game site was an online proofreading business. For this business I wanted to focus on selling something that did not require either my own labor or sourcing some kind of physical product.

The business began in very simple fashion. I created the website personally myself and advertised two services – English proofreading and language translation services. I knew how to find contract proofreaders and also had access to an online database of language translators. When a job came through I’d organize a quote, slap on a margin for myself and then return the quote to the client.

Over the years I heavily refined this business. I brought on an assistant, simplified the services, cemented a pricing model and learned what methods of marketing brought in the best type of client. The end result was a full time income for me and barely a few hours of work to maintain it.

This was the first time I found a business that met all my major criteria – except one – I really wasn’t that passionate about the industry. Initially I enjoyed being the entrepreneur, the thrill of making money and automating the business as much as I could, but after a few years my passion wained. I eventually sold the business, earning a nice payday in the process, making this one of my most personally gratifying projects.

Selling a service is a real option for making money online. The challenge is sourcing good people to do the work, learning what specific offer to make to the market, how to differentiate yourself so you earn good margins, how to market what you offer and how to automate the entire process so it becomes a passive income stream.

5. Sell On Ebay

During my pre-teen and early teenage years I went from playing with Transformers, GI-Joe and LEGO, to playing Nintendo, Sega and Gameboy. Eventually I added the card game Magic: The Gathering to the mix at about 16 years of age. All of these things were passions for me at various stages of growing up, but one thing remained consistent throughout each stage; I traded and sold toys and games I no longer wanted to make extra cash.

In Brisbane where I live, before the Internet there was a newspaper called the Trading Post that was published every two weeks. It was an aftermarket for pretty much everything. Whenever I grew tired of a game or a toy I’d sell it via the Trading Post, usually in an effort to make enough money to buy the new toy or game I had in my sights.

Eventually the Internet came along and the Trading Post no longer commanded the secondhand market like it once did (though it did successfully transition online). It quickly became clear that eBay was the winner when it came to secondhand commerce online. As a result my first experience making any money from the Internet was selling old games, toys and electronics on eBay.

EBay is still I believe the best way to gain experience making money from the Internet for two reasons –

You are pretty much guaranteed to make some kind of sale and thus experience a transaction
EBay has the traffic, so you don’t have to worry about marketing your product beyond creating a good listing, the eye-balls are already there

These two reasons make eBay a great first stop because you will learn how to list something for sale online, how to take money (possibly your first experience with PayPal) and about the importance of things like titles and copywriting, if you spend the time to study how to make your eBay listings convert better.

The best thing about eBay – the abundant traffic – is also the worst thing. Barriers to entry are low on eBay, meaning competition is fierce. When competition is fierce, profit margin is slim. Unless you can find some form of competitive advantage through your supply chain, how you create listings, or you have a means to increase volume, you’re not going retire rich thanks to eBay.

I spent quite a bit of time studying eBay, both as a business model and as a means to capture new customers because of how much buying traffic is there. There is no doubt that eBay is a fantastic website that represents a huge potential to make money, but in my case I wasn’t keen to build my business there, it didn’t match enough of my criteria.

However eBay is a fantastic way to make quick money, even just as a way to turn your old items into cash to start a new online venture. If you’re brand new to Internet marketing and you don’t know your PayPal’s from your Clickbanks, or your PPC from your SEO, eBay is definitely a great place to learn some basics.

Best Keyword Research Tools (Free and Premium)

I have used each of them before writing this post and I can conclude that you should try to use one paid one (my favorite is SEMRush) and most free ones like ubersuggest or keywordtool.io to brainstorm related keywords.

You can then use these related keywords and find more hidden keywords using a premium keyword research tool.

Final words: How to use the researched keywords to grow your blog:

Only finding the best keyword using a premium tool is not enough. You have to use your keywords strategically to grow your blog.

Most keyword research tools pull out huge list of related keywords but not all keywords are worth working on. Some keywords might be having fewer searches related to others but they perform well and convert your visitors satisfyingly. This is because they have buyer intent.

Just look for an example:

A post on “how to do keyword research”, would drive me visitors that already have a tool or a means to do research but don’t know how to do it.

While, a post on “Top tools for keyword research”; would bring me traffic from users looking to buy keyword research tools.

1. SEMRush (Premium) (30 days free trial)

SEMRush is one secret weapon that you need to beat your competition with keyword research.

While most keyword research tools aim for giving you relevant keywords based on your seed keyword, SEMRush goes a step forward by helping access over what keywords your competitor site ranks.

How it works:

SEMRush helps you to keyword research like any other premium tool, but what makes it special is it helps you to track the keywords your competitors are ranking.

This can be a huge benefit in competitor analysis. And, in finding the keywords that actually are sending traffic to your competitors.

One of the most complete suite of keyword research tools in the SEO market.
Allows you to hunt for keywords of your competitors and their competitors too.

How it works:

Just type in your seed keyword and switch between five keyword suggestion algorithms depending on your needs.

Here’s what they reveal:

phrases containing your seed keyword as is;
phrases that contain terms of your seed key phrase in any order;
other keywords that Top 10 pages for your seed keyword also rank for;
search queries that Google’s Autocomplete suggests;
recently detected phrases with your exact-match seed keyword.

Every algorithm will give you thousands of ideas for a single seed keyword.

No worries. With a rich set of filters, you can weed out the trash in a few clicks.

For example, set a low search volume, and you’ll see long-tail phrases that rule the show in modern SEO.

Ahrefs keeps competitors’ keyword strategies out in the open. Whether you’re curious about their high-performing keywords or top pages by traffic, you’ll see them all.

You can also detect what keywords your competitors rank for, but you still don’t and fill in the gap.

3. Google Keyword Planner (Free)

Google keyword planner is a part of the Google adwords. It is the most popular and free keyword research tool out there. Almost any blogger, newbie or seasoned in SEO can use Google keyword planner to find out related keywords along with their search quantity.

Though the GKP was created for the adwords users to search for keywords that they can bid ads for and drive traffic to their sites, you can use it to find tons of related keywords along with their searches per month.

How it works:

To use the GKP, log in with your Google account here.

The next page is where you can enter your seed keyword and customize your filters for the resultant keywords. GKP offers a wide variety of keywords filters like location, language, negative keywords (keywords that you don’t want) etc.

I like

This is the most used keyword research tool and with the knowledge of Google, GKP gives you the largest range of related keywords.
You can actually plug in live URLs to filter out the keywords that page is ranking or trying to rank for.

I don't like

It is built for advertisers, so it has little to do with keyword competitiveness for publishers.
You may not find very unique keyword which no one is targeting. For best profitable keywords, you have to use other keyword research tools as well.

4. Keywordtool.io (Free)

Keywordtool.io is what you should be using when you want to get tons of long tail keywords for your seed keywords. This tool gives you keywords based on Google, Bing, Yahoo and apple app store for free. It provides a huge resource of keywords that would otherwise never see the daylight.

How it works:

Keywordtool uses Google’s auto complete and ubersuggest’s letter adding features (more on Ubersuggest in the next point) to pull out such huge keyword variety. Adding alphabets to the beginning and end of your seed keywords gives a natural keyword resource that can be used in your blog posts.

Keywordtool is free, but you have to pay (upgrade) to access the search volume, CPC and competition. For beginners, the free version is enough to give you large keyword sets for your keyword research projects.

5. Long Tail Pro (Premium)

Here comes my most favorite and powerful keyword research tool. Long tail Keyword is a premium tool for all the good reasons.

Many SEOs (including me) believe that LTP helps us find keywords that could never be discoverable with Google keyword planner.

How it works:

After downloading your copy from here, you have to allow it to access your Google adwords account so that it can find the best keywords from it.

Then you start a new keyword research project with any name.

Enter your Project title

After this, LTP asks you to enter your seed keywords (can be anything – even completely unrelated niches like health and blogging).

Generate Keywords using Long Tail Pro

You can allow it to find long tail keywords containing a definite number of words. Further customizable search options include giving a definite range of searches per month, the country to target etc.

You can also filter the results based on EMD available (exact match domains), Google and Bing title competition and much more.

Long tail pro helps you to find upto 800 keywords per seed keyword entered. But the main trick here is to find relevant keywords and reuse them as seed keywords until you reach at the mine of keywords that yield pure gold.

6. UberSuggest (Free)

Ubersuggest is a basic keyword research tool that gives you more than enough keywords by simply appending letters to the end of your query. This helps you to get access to so many long tail keywords that can be used in your upcoming niche sites or even the main blog.

Ubersuggest has been useful if you have writer’s block too. You can use this tool to get lots of blog posts ideas that will boost your creativity.

How it works:

Ubersuggest works on the principle of Google autosuggest. It appends letters alphabetically to your seed keywords and then finds all the keyword strings that come with the same letter set.

The only reason I said this tool as basic is it gives no idea about the monthly searches or competition of the displayed keywords. You can however, use these keywords in other tools like GKP or long tail pro to find the search volume and competition easily.

7. KWFinder (Freemium)

KWfinder is a tool I have recently been in love with. This premium keyword research tool also has a free version that is quite good in its job.

How it works:

Just enter the seed keywords and select the country and language you want to target your related keywords.

It calculates the long tail keywords that have a relatively less competition and are easier to rank.

KWfinder also shows an “interest over time” graph that tells you the popularity of your long tail keyword over time (from 2004 till date).

Additionally, KWfinder shows the top sites that rank for the given term along with their social metrics.

In my example, I wanted to create a niche site on “dog grooming” so I entered my seed keyword “dog grooming” in the search bar. I set United States as my targeted country and English as the preferred language.

Instantly, I got some of the keywords that have quite low competition.

“Mobile dog grooming” for example has a high rising trend as is shown on the right side. It has decent searches (8100 in US alone which could increase globally) and a low SEO score of 20.

You can further dig in using this keyword as a seed keyword to find more hidden treasures.

8. Serpstat (Paid)

Keyword research is one of 6 tools that online platform Serpstat offers.

There are a couple of different ways to collect keywords there. What is unusual is that Serpstat shows data from Google search suggestions and from your competitors semantics as well.

How it works:

The most reliable way to collect keywords via Serpstat is by exploring competitors semantics. After you find your competitors for a keyword you target, you also get a list of keywords they rank for.

And super easy way to find keywords you should have added is the tool Missing keywords. You’ll see keywords for which your competitors rank in top 10 and which are not present on your website.

So, if you’ve come up with at least one keyword for you website, you can get matched keywords, search suggestions (with search questions), top pages, and competitors for the this keyword.

9. Jaaxy

This one is relatively a new tool in my keyword research arsenal. I like it because it doesn’t rely on Google keyword planner (and hence no shady hiding of keywords).

How it works:

Like any other keyword research tool, you enter a seed keyword to jaaxy and check out the relevant boxes (criteria to filter your keyword results into) just like we did in long tail pro.

I have often found some high quality hidden gems with Jaaxy that no other keyword tool has given me. Some additional results, which Jaaxy shows up during your keyword research, are:

QSR: which is the quoted search result. This shows you the number of web pages that target the exact keyword set.
KQI: The KQI or Keyword Quality indicator is shown as lights of red, green an amber color. Red light for the keyword with least quality and green for the best keyword to target for.
SEO: It is similar to the keyword competitor filter of other premium keyword research tools like Long tail pro. Jaaxy ranks the keyword SEO scores from 1-100, where the keyword with the score 100 is the easiest to rank.

10. Keyword Revealer (Preemium)

A fancy keyword research tool worth trying is Keywordrevealer.com. This is so fast that it doesn’t have an okay button for starting your research campaign.

How it works:

Whenever, you start typing the seed keywords and filters, the keyword revealer finds out the relevant keywords instantly.

Its keyword competition indicator is like a speedometer in your car dashboard and indicates if a keyword is worth ranking.

Another cool feature of keyword revealer tool is it literally brainstorms keyword ideas for you if you get stuck finding new keywords with buyer intent.

Keyword revealer tells you the CPC and estimated potential earning a keyword will give you.

HOW TO SET UP GUIDED ACCESS ON YOUR IPAD OR IPHONE

Whether you are setting this up on your iPad or iPhone, the general directions should be the same. It may vary a bit depending on what operating system you are on. I took these screen shots with my phone and am on update 9.3.2.

Directions

1 Open up settings in your phone.
2. Click General > Accessibility > Guided Access.

3. Then under passcode settings, set a passcode and save.

4. From there head to the app you want your child to play with and open it. Allow the app to load and then hit your iPhone Home Button rapidly three times. The guided access should pop up after the third button press.

5. From here select the area of the app your child can play with. This is also a really neat way to make it so your child cannot click on stuff such as in-app ads. Personally, I will use this a lot if I need one of my kids to be doing a non-preferred activity within an app that way I know they are completing the task at hand before opening it up to a preferred activity.

Then let your kids play! Once your kids are done playing on the app simply press your iPhone Home Button rapidly three times again and the passcode exit screen will pop up.

How to Run Automatic Repair in Windows 8

If you’re ready to run automatic repair at startup, you’ll need to manually enable it.

OnePlus 3 and 3T enthusiasts have been able to benefit from the company's OxygenOS Open Beta program for quite some time now, and its latest release, Open Beta 6 (Open Beta 15 for the older OnePlus 3), once again brings in a number of improvements to the company's own take on Android.

While the previous build, Open Beta 5, focused mostly on squashing bugs from earlier releases, the newest OxygenOS version introduces a number of new features as well, mostly focusing on the user interface of built-in apps. Some of the biggest changes come to the Dialer app in the form of a couple of new gestures: when receiving a call, users will be able to swipe down to answer it, or swipe up to reject it.

The UI in several apps has also been tweaked: the in-call interface has been changed to reflect the new answering gestures, while Messages and Settings have received a new, collapsible action bar which OnePlus says will be making its way to other apps in the future.

Another important change is buried under the tag "Bluetooth optimizations". This is, in fact, the addition of support for the aptX codec, which was recently released for OnePlus' China-only HydrogenOS as well. In practice, this means that users with compatible headphones will be able to benefit from better overall audio quality. The feature is enabled by default, but can be turned off from the Developer Settings menu, should one choose to do so.

Other improvements listed are optimizations for Night Mode and high power usage notifications, as well as bug fixes. Users of OnePlus' forums report the update fixes a major bug with duplicate contacts in the Dialer app caused by third-party apps such as WhatsApp.

As usual, users of previous Open Beta releases should start receiving the update via OTA soon, while those running the stable version of OxygenOS will have to migrate manually. However, keep in mind that doing so disables the ability to migrate back to the stable channel without performing a full wipe of the device.

Fix Restore Point Not Working in Windows 10: System Restore not working in Windows 10 is a very common issue which user’s encountered every now and then. Well, system restore not working can be classified into following two categories: system restore is not able to create restore point, and system restore fails & unable to restore your computer.

There is no specific reason as to why system restore stopped working unexpectedly but we do have quite a few troubleshooting steps which would definitely fix the system restore issue permanently.

The following error message may also pop up which are all fixable by the below-listed troubleshooting steps:

System Restore failed.
Windows cannot find a system image on this computer.
An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. (0x80070005)
System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer’s system files and settings were not changed.
System Restore failed to extract the original copy of the directory from the restore point.
System Restore doesn’t appear to be functioning correctly on this system. (0x80042302)
There was an unexpected error in the property page. (0x8100202)
System Restore encountered an error. Please try to run System Restore again. (0x81000203)

Fix Restore Point Not Working in Windows 10

Method 1: Run CHKDSK and System File Checker

1.Press Windows Key + X then select Command Prompt (Admin).

2.In the cmd type the following command and hit enter after each one:

sfc /scannow
chkdsk /f C:

3.Let the above process finish and then restart your PC.

Method 2: Enable System Restore

1.Press Windows Key + R and then type “gpedit.msc” and hit enter to open group policy editor.

2.Now navigate to the following:

Computer Configuration>Administrative Templates>System>System Restore

3.Set Turn off Configuration and Turn off System Restore settings to Not configured.

4.Next right click This PC or my computer and select Properties.

5.Now select System Protection from left pane.

6.Make sure the Local Disk (C:) (System) is selected and click on Configure.

7.Check “Turn on system protection” and set at least 5 to 10 GB under Disk Space Usage.

8.Click Apply and then restart your PC to apply changes.

Method 3: Enable system restore from registry

1.Press Windows Key + R then type regedit and hit enter to open Registry editor.

2.Next, navigate to the following keys:

Step-1: Open Network and Sharing Center - click your "Wifi Name" - Propeties - Internet Protocol Version 4 - Propeties -

Configure your network settings to use the IP addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as your DNS servers.

Step-2: Launch Command Prompt as Admin. For this, right-click Start button from there and
select Command Prompt (Admin) from the drop-down menu or...
Step-3: Execute the following command and then press Enter

ipconfig /release

Step-4: Enter the bellow command and press Enter

ipconfig /renew

Now restart your PC and check the Wi-Fi settings.

Is your computer running more slowly than it used to? It may be because you have enabled too many startup programs, that is, programs that launch automatically when you start your computer. These programs can bog down your system resources, and removing them can free up space. This article provides methods for users of Windows, Mac OS, and GNU/Linux.

Before You Start

Use the programs themselves. Many programs that start automatically will include and option not to start automatically. Search through the program settings first to see if this option is available before using any other method.
- It may be helpful to Google for this setting as well ("Dropbox start up settings", etc.).

Examine which programs start automatically. How many programs start automatically really won't have a huge effect on your computer. What really matters is how much processing power they take up. Take a look at how much processing power they're using and find the biggest culprits. Those are the programs you should stop from starting automatically.
- For Windows computers, you can look into this by opening the task manager (ctrl+alt+del) when the computer first boots and look at which programs are sucking up the most processing power.

Research before stopping programs. You should always do a little homework before you stop a program from starting when you boot up your computer. Certain programs are necessary to the normal function of your computer and stopping them can cause serious harm. Don't remove anything unless you know exactly what it is. Google is your friend.

Avoid utilities for this purpose. There are many unofficial utilities or programs which will tell you that they can streamline the process of changing your startup programs, and they may work. However, you should always be extremely cautious of free programs or even paid programs which come from places other than your computer or OS's manufacturer. Read the directions below to find out how to change the startup programs without risking getting a virus or otherwise compromising your system.
- One program which is generally reliable and safe is CCleaner, which you should always download from a reliable, safe source like CNet. Go to Tools->Startup to change the programs.

- If you don't want any of those programs to start up, simply right-click the file(s) you don't want and select "Delete."
