First of all thank you for submitting a mix to Geecast!!

1. can you tell me abit about yourself? Whats your name & were are you from?

Hey! My name is Luke, im 30 years old and I live in Nottingham.

2. How is the scene were you live? Are there many parties?

Nottingham has never been great for hardcore, it’s mainly a drum n bass, jungle, dubtep, kind of place. But there’s the odd party, we used to have Rigormortis quite regularly. The Maze nightclub will sometimes have hardcore depending which event/sound system is hosting, Porkchopper Sounds is worth a mention. Further afield, if you keep your ear to the ground, there’s a little known place on the Derbyshire border that caters for the harder styles.

3. How did you get into the scene?

Started as a raver, had goes on decks at mates houses, then bought my own set with my student loan. Somehow got on a DJ competition playing the only gabba set, which landed me a follow up booking, and it went on from there. Up to my neck in it now!

4. Who are your heroes? Who did you look upto when you first started Spinning/producing?

Initially DJs in the Yorkshire scene like MZone, Kenny Sharp, Topgroove. I liked happy hardcore for a bit (blame the drugs) so Scott Brown, Brisk, and Sy were my favourites. As I got into the harder stuff Producer, Promo, Manu Le Malin, and anyone who was playing darker than the rest.

5. Have you produced any records? tell us were we can buy copies!

No, but there are some digital releases I’ve had a hand in producing, I can’t do it on my own. Thanks to Pete Sadistician from Braincore for those, shouldn’t be hard to find if you look hard enough!

6. Tell us abit about the mix you submitted, what are the standout tracks?

I have wanted to do an acidcore mix for a while, there’s the odd bits trickling out. I think my interest started with a Biochip C record. Then things went digital for me and Tripped’s track Acid Stacy caught my interest again, which is the first track on the mix, and available on Motormouth Records. It’s not entirely an acidcore mix but has an overall mellow feeling, I threw some new releases in the middle to flesh it out. The Dutch label Obs.cur deserves a mention, it’s still releasing vinyl only and there’s 4 tracks from that label on there.

7. Do you have a fav record of all time? What is it?

That’s a tough one! Menace To Society – Chronic Disorder springs to mind. Anything by The Outside Agency. I played Turbulence – 6 Million Ways to Die out recently. That track was released in 1994 and still everyone goes mental for it!

8. What set up do you use for mixing? Cds/ MP3? / Vinyl or a combination?

CDs and Vinyl. I don’t generally combine the two unless I’m at home you can’t rely on set ups to sound the same.

9. Have you played at any parties?

Yes, plenty.

10. what do you do you get upto when your not out playing/producing? Any other hobbies outside of djing/producing?

I do a martial art, go kayaking, and read books on occult magic.

12. Vinyl? dead or alive? what are your views on Net Labels?

I know it’s a cliche but I don’t think vinyl will ever die. I’m not one of these purists either, embrace technology. The internet has brought with it a ton of DIY net labels. I tend to avoid the crap by sticking to the areas I know I will like, unless some sends me a promo and says LISTEN TO THIS.

13. If you saw yourself in 10 years from now, what would you be doing scene wise ideally??

10 years is a long time. I might not be arsed with DJing by then, but I can’t see myself ever stopping listening to EDM or going to events.

15. Were do you see the ‘Scene’ in 5 years time?

Sporadic, disjointed? Facebook has changed things for better and worse. I don’t know I’m not a fortune teller, but 5 years ago there was like 1 small party and 1 big party a month but it felt healthy. Now there’s like 1 or 2 every weekend, and hardly anybodies doing well off it, and there’s no sign of it slowing down. Of course the underground will always be there because it’s free from popular movements. It’s amazing where it pops up, a tribe and a sound system, you can’t beat that kind of communion.

16. How do we book you for a set? do you have a website/ facebook page or other way of booking?

17. Who would win in a scrap between Jimmy Saville & Dj Sy?

Jimmy would come back from the dead swinging is heavy chains around, and Sy would be throwing vinyls at him like that scene from Shaun of The Dead. Yeh Jimmy would kick his arse, then go finger some disadvantaged children like a proper paedo.
