Chioma Adeleke, the wife of popular Afrobeat singer, Davido, has threatened legal action against members of Sophia Momodu lovers’ group.
She made the legal threat on Tuesday after chats from Sophia lovers, and TSM Lovers Whatsapp groups surfaced on social media.
Sharing screenshots from the group chats, Chioma’s manager, Ubi Franklin in a series of posts on X, tagged the development as a coordinated online attack targeting Chioma and Davido’s marriage.
While claiming that multiple groups are organised just to bully and harass Chioma, Ubi threatened every member of the group that “one after the other, you will explain to the law enforcement what Chef chi has done to all of you, just keep opening groups to bully her, Her Husband, Me as her manager and the entire family has your time now and we will follow the rules and you will be served.

Nigerian rapper and 2020 Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) winner, Olamilekan “Laycon” Agbeleshebioba, has revealed that his victory in the reality show played a pivotal role in saving his mother’s life.

Residents of Iragon community in Badagry Local Government Area of Lagos State have been thrown into mourning following the discovery of the lifeless body of a middle-aged man, John Kotin, in a nearby forest under circumstances that remain unclear.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, has sparked shock and confusion within the riverine community, as differing accounts continue to trail the cause of his death.
According to eyewitnesses, the body was discovered around noon by a resident who had gone into the forest to fetch firewood. The discovery immediately drew attention, with locals expressing mixed reactions and speculations over what might have happened.
An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said some residents suspected the possibility of suicide, citing the deceased’s recent emotional struggles.
“There are different speculations surrounding his death. Some people believe he may have taken his own life,” the source said.
The eyewitness added that Kotin had reportedly been experiencing emotional distress in recent months following a domestic crisis involving his wife, which was said to have been taken to the Baale’s palace for resolution.
Residents further noted that the deceased had recently exhibited unusual behaviour, including speaking out of context and experiencing memory lapses, raising concerns about his mental wellbeing.
Another resident said Kotin was seen earlier on Tuesday morning when he went out to eat before heading to work.
“He told people he was going to work. He was a palm wine tapper, so no one suspected anything unusual at the time,” the resident said.
However, the leadership of the community has offered a different account, dismissing claims of suicide.
Speaking on the incident, the community leader, Mr. Frances Sedowhe, said the deceased may have died in the course of his occupation.
“John is a palm wine tapper. He went for palm wine tapping, and in the process, he fell from the top of a palm tree and got entangled on the tree. He was later found dead,” Sedowhe stated.

Mr Tunji Bolaji, Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations to the Minister of Power, says the minister will be resigning his position as minister of power in the coming days.

Suspected terrorists, on Monday, launched a fresh attack on Awon community in Kaduna State, killing two residents and abducting at least seven others in what locals described as a worsening wave of violence targeting vulnerable communities in Southern Kaduna.
The victims killed in the attack are identified as Joseph Sule, popularly known as “Big Joe,” and Awilo Madugu.
A source reveals that those abducted included Gift Victor, Hannatu Yusuf, Salina Sam, Silvia Sam, Dogarah Maisamari, Hassana Bulus, and Joy Samaila.
He lamented that the incessant attacks being experienced in parts of Southern Kaduna call for serious attention by the government to save the locals from what he described as “deliberate attempts to completely wipe away the people from their ancestral home.”
According to him, “With the new wave of attacks in the area, residents are living in fear following the activities of terrorists who are killing and abducting people almost on a daily basis, thereby making life unbearable.”
A community leader, who sought anonymity, called on the government and security agencies to act swiftly and ensure the safety of the people and their property.
Residents say the latest assault has left the community traumatized, with growing frustration over what they described as inadequate and delayed security response in most of the attacks.
Awon community leaders are calling for urgent intervention by security agencies to secure the release of the abducted victims, strengthen security presence, and prevent further attacks in the area, other parts of Southern Kaduna, and the entire country.

The Nigeria Army says troops have neutralised two suspected terrorists and recovered weapons during a successful ambush operation in the Doruwa Babuje area of Kaduna State.
This is contained in an operational report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.
The report revealed that the operation was carried out on Tuesday following credible intelligence on the movement of armed criminals known for attacking residents, including cases of robbery and segxwal violence.
According to the report, troops laid an ambush around the Marit general area and engaged the suspects as they approached.
“Troops sprang the ambush and neutralised two of the armed bandits, while others fled the scene.
“Items recovered from the suspects include a fabricated rifle, five rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a cutlass, a jack knife, and a mobile phone,” said.
The report added that troops had maintained their positions in the general areas of Marit and Lajam villages, with patrols ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a fresh cabinet reshuffle, dismissing the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Umar Dangiwa.
The development was disclosed in an official memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
According to the memo, Taiwo Oyedele has been appointed as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State for Finance.
In a related move, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named Minister-designate for Housing and Urban Development, with Dangiwa directed to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry.
The memo further directed that all handover processes be completed on or before Thursday, April 23, 2026.

The identities of those who reportedly attempted to topple President Bola Tinubu's government by force have now been made public by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Among them is Chief Timipre Sylva, a former governor of Bayelsa State, who is allegedly at large in the charge FHC/ABJ/CR/206/2026, which was submitted before the Federal High Court on Tuesday.
Major General Mohammed Ibrahim Gana, Captain Erasmus Ochegobia Victor, Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim, Zekeri Umoru, Bukar Kashim Goni, and Abdulkadir Sani are among the others.
In a 13-count charge, they were accused of plotting to levy war against the Federal Republic of Nigeria to overthrow President Tinubu.
The alleged offence is said to be contrary and punishable under Section 37 (2) of the Criminal Code.
The alleged coup plotters are scheduled to be arraigned on April 22, before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
The charge was filed by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and signed by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN.
The Federal Government accused the defendants of treason, terrorism and failure to disclose security intelligence and money laundering linked to terrorism financing.
The defendants allegedly “conspired with one another to levy war against the state to overthrow the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” an offence punishable under Section 37 subsection 2 of the Criminal Code.
The prosecution further alleged that the defendants had prior knowledge of a planned treasonable act involving one Colonel Mohammed Alhassan Ma’aji and others but failed to alert authorities.
In addition to treason, the defendants are being prosecuted by the Federal Government for offenses related to terrorism under the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act of 2022.]]>
The Cross River state government has confirmed a fresh case of COVID-19 in its state. The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk, who disclosed this on Tuesday in Calabar, assuring residents that the situation is under control and does not warrant panic.
Ayuk mentioned that the confirmed case involves a 53-year-old Chinese expatriate who arrived in Nigeria via Lagos on March 17, 2026, and later proceeded to a factory in Akamkpa Local Government Area, where symptoms were first detected
According to Ayuk, the patient initially presented mild symptoms and was referred to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), where samples were collected and the infection confirmed.

The commissioner explained that the government delayed public announcement until diagnostic protocols were completed to avoid misinformation, stressing that the state remains vigilant in disease surveillance.

The Airport Police Command has brought 14 suspects before a court over their alleged involvement in the theft of building materials at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Lagos.
A statement by the command said the suspects were arrested on April 20, 2026, between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Terminal 1 of the airport, which is currently under renovation. The arrest was carried out by the Joint Monitoring Task Force (JMTF), a joint security team made up of officers from the Airport Police Command and other security agencies, during a routine patrol.
According to the command, the arrest followed repeated reports from project managers handling the renovation work, who had complained about the continuous disappearance of building materials within the Terminal 1 area. This led to tighter surveillance and increased patrols around the location.
On the night of the operation, security operatives acted on credible intelligence that some unauthorised persons were inside the restricted construction zone, leading to an immediate response by the task force.
When officers arrived at the scene, they arrested 14 suspects identified as Muhammed Sadiq, Aliu Umaru, Nuhu Muhammed, Adam Muhammed, Husaini Garuba, Suleman Umaru, Muhammed Musa, Ali Ali, Haruna Adamu, Umaru Musa, Henry Kumasen, Aliu Umaru, Idris Umaru, and Bakura Mustapha.
They were found with stolen items, including high-value copper wires, iron materials, and other construction equipment. Investigations further revealed that the suspects allegedly gained access to the site by posing as workers of the construction company, thereby violating existing security measures.
After investigations were concluded, the suspects were charged before the Magistrate Court for Special Offences in Oshodi, Lagos, on April 21, 2026.
Thirteen of the accused persons pleaded guilty and were sentenced to one year and seven months in prison. The remaining suspect pleaded not guilty and has been remanded in custody, with the case adjourned to June 16, 2026.

Suspected kidnappers have abducted a young man identified as Nanmwa Turfa, in Plateau State.
Turfa was kidnapped while on his way home from Bokkos Local Government Area of the state after writing the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exam.
It was gathered that the kidnappers are demanding N20 million ransom for his release.
Meanwhile, troops under Sector 5 of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have launched a search and rescue operation following the abduction of a civilian in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau state.
It cannot be ascertained if the victim in question is Turfa.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred at about 5:00 a.m. on April 20 at Maiduna village, where suspected kidnappers abducted the victim to an unknown destination.
Sources said troops, in collaboration with other security agencies, swiftly responded to the report and conducted search and rescue operations within the area, but no contact was made with the perpetrators.
According to the sources, the victim’s family later confirmed that the kidnappers had established contact and were demanding a ransom of N1 million for the victim’s release.
Efforts were ongoing to track down the kidnappers and secure the safe release of the victim, while security presence had been reinforced in the area to prevent further incidents.

The Ondo State Police Command has dismantled a human trafficking syndicate operating across international borders, rescuing a 21-year-old woman who was allegedly deceived and trafficked to the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire under the pretence of securing legitimate employment.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.
According to the statement, the victim, Akinwunmi Faith, was reportedly lured abroad on February 22, 2026, by three suspects identified as Akinlaja Blessings, Johnson Ahomari, and a third accomplice, Grace, who is currently at large. They allegedly promised her a job as a supermarket sales assistant.
Her mother, Akinwunmi Olubunmi, had earlier reported her disappearance at the Okitipupa Police Division on April 13, 2026, triggering investigations into the case.
Police findings revealed that upon arrival in Côte d’Ivoire, the victim was instead forced into prostitution and subjected to exploitative conditions. She reportedly endured severe abuse and was controlled by her traffickers in inhumane circumstances.
In a dramatic turn, the victim escaped on April 6, 2026, trekking through a bush path to a nearby community, where she contacted her family. She was later returned to Nigeria on April 11 and taken to the State Specialist Hospital, Okitipupa, for urgent medical and psychological care.
Acting on intelligence, operatives of the Command arrested two suspects, Akinlaja Blessings and Johnson Ahomari, who are currently in custody assisting with investigations. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect, Grace, and dismantle the wider trafficking network.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP logistics courier in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State.
The suspect, identified as Chari Kura from Gajiram in Nganzai LGA, was apprehended at about 6:20 p.m. on April 20, 2026 at Charlie 19 location in Monguno town.
The arrest followed credible intelligence indicating that the suspect was en route to deliver logistics supplies to terrorists at Bindur village in Kukawa Local Government Area.
Items recovered from the suspect include 180 mosquito coils, 12 packs of Jolly Jus, one Itel mobile phone and the sum of N500.
The suspect is currently in the custody of Sector 3 for further interrogation and necessary action.

The flogging continued even as she pleaded and she almost fell into the gutter while trying to run away from the beatings.
The masquerade eventually stopped and was led away by his handler.

Justice Darius Khobo of the Kaduna State High Court has deferred the bail application of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to the first week of June 2026.
El-Rufai is currently being prosecuted on several counts relating to alleged financial impropriety and abuse of office by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Speaking with journalists after the session, El-Rufai’s counsel, Ukpon Akpan, faulted the continued postponement of the bail hearing by the presiding judge, describing it as “politically motivated”.
The former governor reportedly arrived at the court around 9 a.m. in a convoy, accompanied by officials of the ICPC and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
During the proceedings, El-Rufai’s supporters assembled outside the courtroom, while security agencies maintained order and restricted movement around the court vicinity.

In anticipation of the African Democratic Congress presidential primaries, supporters of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso have formed a new political pressure group called the Obi–Kwankwaso Movement.
In addition to appointing state and zonal coordinators to spearhead its mobilization, the group, which declared its formation in Abuja on Monday, claimed to have created structures throughout the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
In a statement released in Abuja, the movement's National Publicity Secretary, Justin Ijeh, revealed this. He described the initiative as a coalition of political groups that includes the African Democratic Congress, Kwankwasiyya, the Obidient Movement, and the New Nigeria People's Party.
In the midst of mounting doubt about who will secure the ADC presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections, the development denotes a new level of realignment within the opposition coalition.
The Obidient Movement, whose spontaneous and youth-driven mobilization changed Nigeria's political landscape during the 2023 elections, seems to have a structure and grassroots appeal similar to the OK Movement.
Ijeh clarified to reporters that the new platform is made up of members from the Kwankwasiya, Obidients, NNPP, and ADC.
Nigeria is at a pivotal crossroads, he declared. Today, as our people endure the weight of unprecedented economic hardship, the soaring cost of living, and the persistent shadow of insecurity, the Obi–Kwankwaso (OK) Movement formally announces the unveiling of its national and state structures.

“We recognise the exhaustion felt in every Nigerian household. Yet, in this moment of darkness, the OK Movement stands as a beacon of resolute hope.

“This is an open invitation to every Nigerian who believes that our current reality need not be our final destiny. “Through solidarity, purposeful leadership, and the courage to demand better, we will prevail.
“The structures are set, the vision clear, the movement is here and together, we will make Nigeria OK,” he noted.
When contacted, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr Yunusa Tanko, confirmed that the group was working in alignment with existing Obi support structures toward a joint presidential ticket under the ADC.
“Yes, Ijeh and others are some of our people. There is no division. Both the OK Movement and The Village Boys Movement are working for the same purpose,” he said.
The emergence of the OK Movement comes against the backdrop of rising tension within the ADC over the ambition of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who recently declared his intention to contest the party’s presidential primaries.
Atiku, in a controversial interview, insisted he would not step down for any aspirant, a stance that has triggered unease among supporters of other leading figures within the coalition.
Additionally, the former vice president dismissed the chances of other northern aspirants, stating that none matched his level of political popularity.
Among those speculated to be eyeing the ADC ticket alongside him are Obi, Kwankwaso, former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal.

Atiku, in an earlier interview, said he felt “terribly disappointed” in Tinubu’s government, describing it as the worst administration he had seen.
Reacting, DeeOne said, “Do you want to bring back subsidy? This is not about me, but about our children. Do you know that the monthly allocation the government receives has increased tremendously?
“There are many things we blame the president for that governors and local government chairmen are supposed to handle.
“For me, if nobody can give us a tangible way forward, then this government should continue.”
Speaking on the president’s visit to the United Kingdom, DeeOne said he felt proud of the reception accorded to Tinubu.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has countered ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar who criticised his leadership of the country.
Atiku, who is seeking the presidency under the African Democratic Congress, had recently described Jonathan as inexperienced, saying his tenure was marked by notable missteps.
“I know Goodluck Jonathan very well. He is a decent young man, but also inexperienced, and I believe that contributed to his inability to manage the affairs of the country, particularly when he was faced with challenges,” he said on Arise TV.
Reacting at the 2025 Association of Retired Career Ambassadors of Nigeria awards ceremony in Abuja on Monday, Jonathan acknowledged that leadership inevitably involves errors, but rejected the notion that his age undermined his performance.
“So not too long ago, a very senior politician said, ‘Oh, Jonathan was too young and probably that’s why he made mistakes.’
“If I made mistakes, yes, nobody who becomes a governor or a president will say you did not make mistakes. Even when you promote yourself to the level of a god, you become a deity.
“All human beings must make mistakes. I became president in 2010 at the age of 53. I left in 2015 at the age of 58, and they say I was too young. Must it have been 100 years before I ran the affairs of the state?”
The former president maintained that, despite any shortcomings, he made decisions he believed were in the country’s best interest. He pointed to Nigeria’s diplomatic strides during his tenure, including its election to the United Nations Security Council.
“I’m talking to diplomats, so I can say that during my period, I knew what I did for us to appear in the UN Security Council two times… If I were so naive, I don’t think I would have been able to navigate through that process,” he said.
Jonathan also spoke on regional affairs, warning that political instability remains a major obstacle to economic growth across West Africa. He stressed that without stable governance systems, meaningful development in the sub-region would remain elusive.
“We cannot progress economically if we are very unstable societies politically,” he said.
Jonathan noted that while the founders of ECOWAS envisioned strong economic cooperation, persistent political crises have hindered progress, particularly in enforcing democratic standards among member states.
“That means that ECOWAS must interfere with the internal affairs of the states, and the issue of sovereignty becomes a problem,” he said.
Jonathan urged leaders in the region to work collectively towards stability, saying, “The heads of states of ECOWAS must continue to work together and agree on concrete terms and make sure that the sub-region is politically stable.”
He added that economic integration efforts would falter without solid democratic institutions and called on Nigerian diplomats to properly document foreign policy experiences for future leaders.
Paying tribute to ECOWAS founders, including former Head of State Yakubu Gowon, Jonathan described the creation of the bloc in 1975 as a bold and necessary step toward regional unity and economic integration.
Gowon, who was also honoured at the event, recounted the origins of ECOWAS, linking its formation to post-war diplomatic engagements across West Africa.
According to him, “It was as a result of the various efforts of all Nigerians when we went through a very difficult period, and I had to go to the various countries to say thank you.”
He said discussions with regional leaders at the time led to a shared vision for broader cooperation.
“Why don’t we also think about having something that we can at least have in agreement for all of us when we are working together?” he said.
Gowon emphasised that ECOWAS was the product of collective effort rather than individual ambition, crediting government institutions and civil servants for its success.
“This would not have been possible without the support of all the staff of the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Economic Development,” he stated.
He added that the recognition bestowed on him should be shared widely.
“The honour that is being done to me today should really go back to all the staff that worked so hard to make sure that this became a reality,” he said.
Also speaking, the President of the Association of Retired Career Ambassadors of Nigeria, Joe Keshi, highlighted the importance of honouring excellence in diplomacy, noting that the awards celebrate dedication and service to Nigeria and the continent.
“Diplomacy is one profession where success is often invisible, reflected not by news coverage, but by maintained stability, prevented conflicts, cultivated partnerships,” he said.
Keshi noted that the event coincides with the 50th anniversary of ECOWAS, describing the organisation as “a bold experiment in regionalism,” and urged diplomats to adapt to evolving global challenges.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Waheed Shaibu, also praised Gowon, describing him as a symbol of national unity and visionary leadership.

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested one Awwalu Aliyu, for the m8rder of his ex-wife in Taura Local Government Area of the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna A Yahaya, disclosed this during a press briefing on Monday, April 20, 2026.
The lifeless body of the victim was found at the outskirts of Gurjawa village on April 3, 2026.
According to the CP, investigation revealed that Aliyu, in company of one Hudu Alhassan, had earlier taken the victim under the pretense of conveying her to her family residence.
“On 3/4/2026, at about 0730hrs, information was received at Gujungu Division that, a lifeless body was seen at the outskirts of Gurjawa Village,” the CP stated.
"Upon receiving the report, Patrol Team swung into action and proceeded to the scene.
"On reaching the scene, they discovered the body and evacuated it to the hospital where it was certified d3ad by a medical practitioner.
"Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was last seen in the company of her former husband, Awwalu Aliyu ‘m’ of Yalleman Village.
"Further investigation uncovered that one Umar Suleiman, an okada rider, had earlier lent his motorcycle to the said Awwalu Aliyu, and blood stains were observed on the motorcycle, thereby raising suspicion of his possible complicity in the commission of the offence, so he was arrested.
"Sustained investigation revealed that the prime suspect, Awwalu Aliyu, in company of one Hudu Alhassan, had earlier taken the victim under the pretense of conveying her to her family residence at Gurjawa Village.
“It was further established that the suspect subsequently dropped his associate midway and proceeded alone with the victim, after which the offence was allegedly committed. Both suspects were charged to court.”]]>
Kimberly Daniels, a United States Democratic member of the Florida House of Representatives for District 14, has alleged that Nigeria’s minister of state for defense, Bello Matawalle, attempted to bribe a US official to deflect the narrative of the United World Congress of Diplomats, UN-WCD, report.
The lawmaker made the claim in a viral video released on her official Facebook account on Monday.
She said Matawalle’s alleged move was to cover up the UN-WCD report on Christian genocide in Nigeria, which indicted him.
Daniels insisted that no amount of pressure can silence her stand against the killings of Christians in Nigeria.
“A US elected official was offered money by Nigeria’s minister of state defense, Bello Matawalle, to change the narrative of the UN-WCD Christian genocide in Nigeria report,” she said in the viral video.
Recall that Daniels, who doubled as the chairperson of UN-WCD, had called for President Bola Tinubu to remove Matawalle over alleged complicity in the killings in Plateau, Benue, Kaduna, and other parts of Nigeria.

The Pilgrims Welfare Board in Kano State has expressed grief over the death of two intending pilgrims who lost their lives in a tragic road accident.
The victims were identified as Alkasim Ibrahim Walawa, 48, and his mother, Hajiya Hadiza Garba, 73.
The incident occurred along the Rimin Gado road leading into Kano, where both victims reportedly died on the spot.
Family sources said Alkasim is survived by two wives and seven children, while Hajiya Hadiza left behind five children.
Both victims were natives of Walawa village in Kabo Local Government Area of Kano State.
The board described the incident as deeply painful, noting that the deceased were on their way to undertake the sacred pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.
In a condolence message signed by its spokesperson, Alhaji Suleiman A. Dederi, the board prayed for forgiveness for the deceased and for their admission into Aljannatul Firdaus.
“We are deeply saddened by this loss. We pray that Almighty Allah forgives their shortcomings and grants them eternal rest, while giving their families the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement read.

Following the kidnapping of passengers when gunmen assaulted a commercial bus along the Lagos–Benin Express Road in Iguobazuwa axis, the Edo State Police Command reports that a coordinated rescue operation is underway.
Suspected kidnappers attacked a GUO Transport Company bus with registration number FA 280 YJ on April 18, 2026, at approximately 6:00 p.m., according to a statement released by the Command on Tuesday and signed by ASP Eno Ikoedem, the Police Public Relations Officer.
According to the statement, five passengers were inside the car when the attackers opened fire, killing the driver.
It further stated that a female passenger was shot. was rescued by responding officers and taken to a hospital, where she is “receiving treatment and responding positively,” while three other passengers were forcefully taken into a nearby forest.
After the assault, the statement said the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, ordered an immediate escalation of rescue efforts across adjoining divisions along the Ore–Benin axis.
“The Commissioner of Police has directed all adjoining divisions along the Ore–Benin axis and boundary forests to embark on intensive bush combing operations to rescue the victims and arrest the perpetrators,” the statement said.
It further noted that operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit have been deployed to reinforce the ongoing search, alongside tactical teams working with local hunters and vigilantes to comb the surrounding forests.
The statement additionally verified that the driver’s body had been deposited at a hospital mortuary, while the recovered vehicle had been secured as investigations continue.
The Command reassured the public, saying, “The Command remains resolute and will not relent until the victims are safely rescued and the criminals brought to justice,” adding that members of the public should support ongoing operations with “credible and timely information.”
Earlier accounts of the incident circulating online described heavy gunfire during the attack, with an eyewitness saying, “the kidnappers shot and killed the driver. They also took passengers into the bush.”
However, the police insisted that rescue operations are ongoing and efforts are being intensified to ensure the safe return of the abducted passengers.

A married woman in Souza, in the Littoral region of Cameroon has been arrested while fleeing to Nigeria after she allegedly k!lled her husband's pregnant side chick.
It was gathered that the suspect allegedly k!lled the woman after discovering that her husband had impregnated her.
According to local reports, the confrontation reportedly took place on a farm, where the wife violently assaulted the alleged side chick.
Tragically, the pregnant woman, who was reportedly carrying twins, lost her life during the attack.
After the incident, the suspect attempted to flee toward Nigeria but was intercepted by security forces at the border.
Authorities were able to locate and arrest her following information reportedly provided to the police.

The ongoing trial over the killing of Super TV boss, Usifo Ataga, is approaching its final stage as the third defence witness took the stand.
Chioma Ebuche, sister to the prime suspect Chidinma Ojukwu, appeared in court and addressed questions surrounding a phone allegedly linked to the case.
During her testimony, she stated that she did not know the phone given to her by her sister was stolen. According to her, Chidinma invited her over and handed her the device, which she accepted without questioning its origin.
Under cross-examination, she maintained that she had no knowledge of how the phone was obtained.

For two hours early yesterday, terrorists and soldiers were engaged in a fierce firefight at Kemanji community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The clash came as terrorists also killed no fewer than 11 persons in fresh attacks in Plateau and Benue communities, while several others were injured.
In the Kwara attack, the terrorists reportedly carted away weapons and an army gun truck in the process.
The attack, which occurred around 3am yesterday, lasted till 5am and left several security operatives and terrorists injured, while motorcycles and ammunition belonging to the security team were taken by the assailants.
However, efforts to get the military high command to react to the attack at press time yesterday proved abortive.
Calls also placed to Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, and the Chairman of Kaiama Local Government Area, Abubakar Abdullahi, were unreplied.
But former council chairman, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the gunmen stormed the community in large numbers and directly targeted the security formation, comprising soldiers, forest guards and vigilantes.
“They came into Kemanji around 3am and attacked the security post. They killed three soldiers and two vigilantes, while many others were injured.
“They also took about twelve motorcycles, guns and ammunition, and even went away with the army gun truck,” he added.
He said the injured were evacuated to hospitals, while those with severe injuries were referred to Ilorin for further treatment.
“Some of those injured are on their way to Ilorin for treatment, while others are receiving care at Kaiama General Hospital,” he said.
Residents not attacked, only the security men
While noting that residents were not attacked during the incident, a source said: “The terrorists did not kidnap or harm any residents. They only engaged the security personnel.’’
A resident, Mohammed Mohammed, who corroborated this account, said the attackers initially overwhelmed the troops and escaped with military equipment.
“They invaded the community and killed three military officers. They took their armoured vehicle along with motorcycles, arms and ammunition,” he said.
He added that security forces had launched a pursuit operation into the surrounding forest, saying
“we learnt that the bandits are many in number, and the military are already in the bush pursuing them.’’
Another resident, who preferred anonymity, said the attackers also evacuated their casualties, raising concerns about possible local collaboration.
“Three soldiers were killed. The army also neutralised some of them, but they carried their people away using the army vehicle they took. That raises suspicion that they may have informants around,” he added.
The village head of Kemanji, Alhaji Sanni Zikki, also confirmed the attack, attributing it to terrorists operating from a nearby forest.
“The terrorists came from the Kainji National Park and attacked our security men. We lost three soldiers. Some others were injured,” he said.
According to him, the security operatives resisted the attack, despite its intensity.
“There were heavy gunshots everywhere. It was intense, but the security men tried,” he said.
Zikki also dismissed claims that the attackers had issued prior threats to the community, insisting there were no civilian casualties. There was no casualty among residents,” he added.

In Plateau State, no fewer than six persons were reportedly killed, while eight others sustained varying degrees of injuries, following two separate attacks on communities in Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas.
It was gathered that four persons were killed, with five others got injured during an attack on Hurum Gashish community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
Sources said the incident occurred at about 10 pm on Sunday when gunmen invaded the area and opened fire on residents.
In a related development, two persons were confirmed dead, while three others sustained injuries in another attack on Shonong Bachi community of Riyom Local Government Area.
The attack in Riyom was said to have taken place around 11 p.m. on the same day, with gunmen reportedly storming the community and shooting sporadically.
Residents said the attacks caused panic, forcing many to flee their homes for safety.
Confirming the incidents, the National Publicity Secretary of Berom Youth Moulders Association, Rwang Tenglong, said the attacks had thrown the affected communities into mourning.
He condemned the attacks, describing them as worrisome, and expressed concern over the recurring violence in rural communities across the state.
Tenglong added that the injured victims had been taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
Efforts to reach Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, for confirmation were unsuccessful.
Also, suspected armed herders weekend killed five people in a fresh attack on Tse Ameen community in Mbapa Council Ward, Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to locals, some suspected armed herders invaded the community on Saturday night and unleashed an attack on the sleepy community.
One of the locals who did not want to be named, told journalists yesterday that five bodies were recovered on Sunday, while many were still missing.
The local said: “Five corpses, which included three males and two females, were recovered on Sunday.”
Spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Udeme Edet, who confirmed the attack yesterday, said four bodies were recovered.
She said: “The incident is confirmed, four dead bodies were recovered.”
The state governor, Hyacinth Alia, sympathised with the people of the local government and urged security agents to ensure the perpetrators were apprehended.
We were beaten with cutlasses, rescued Benue JAMB candidate recounts ordeal
In a related development, a rescued candidate of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Agatha Buter, yesterday recounted the terrifying experience she and other passengers endured after armed men attacked a Benue Links bus along the Makurdi-Otukpo highway.
Agatha was among passengers abducted last Wednesday while travelling from Makurdi to Otukpo in an 18-seater bus.
Eight of the victims were JAMB candidates en route to write the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, in Otukpo when they were abducted.
The victims were later brought to Benue State Government House, where they were presented to Governor Hyacinth Alia after their release.
Speaking about their time in captivity, Agatha said they were subjected to severe intimidation and physical abuse by their abductors.
“They threatened us with guns and bullets and beat us with cutlasses to force our parents to raise the ransom of N10 million they demanded,” she said.
She added that the male victims were particularly targeted during the ordeal.
“The boys among us suffered the most. They were beaten repeatedly with cutlasses because the kidnappers were pushing for the ransom,” she explained.
She also said the captors were armed herdsmen men operating from a forest-based settlement.
Agatha, who noted that they were poorly fed throughout their captivity, recounted further: “They gave us garri with salt and sometimes mangoes. On the third day, we had no food and were forced to drink unsafe water,” she said.
She described the experience as deeply traumatic, saying it felt unreal and left them emotionally shaken.
Agatha expressed gratitude to security agencies and the Benue State government, noting that their intervention contributed to their eventual release.
Police arrest 42 illegal miners over fresh abduction of Kwara monarch
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Kwara State Mr Adekimi Ojo, has confirmed that 42 illegal miners had been arrested, following the abduction of His Royal Highness, Oba Salman Olátúnjí Aweda,of Olayinka community in Ifelodun Local Government area of Kwara State.
The Police Commissioner in an exclusive interview with Vanguard yesterday, said the monarch was abducted by ten fully-armed terrorists on Saturday evening, following the royalty earlier paid him in the day by the miners.
He said the terrorists broke down the door of his palace, fetched him from one of the rooms and demanded for the money the miners gave him earlier in the day.
Adekimi added that the monarch immediately gave them the money and was, thereafter, taken away with his brother, who was with him.
“Immediately we got wind of the development, we swung into action, using drones and other logistics and we eventually arrested 42 illegal miners in the community.
“I cannot confirm whether those who abducted the monarch were among the illegal miners we arrested.
But investigations still continue on the development. All the suspects are currently at the police headquarters in Ilorin,” the CP said .
He, however, said that while the monarch was being taken away, his brother was also abducted but reportedly refused to continue with the long trek to the forest, having been worn out.
He was said to have told the terrorists to kill him if they wished, complaining that he was tired of going ahead with the journey. The police commissioner said , instead of killing him, the terrorists tied him to a tree and went away with the monarch.
It was however gathered that the terrorists reached out to the community weekend demanding N400 million before the monarch can regain his freedom.
Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government Area in Kwara State, Abdulrasheed Femi Yusuf, who confirmed the abduction of the traditional ruler, raised fresh concerns over insecurity in Kwara South.
Describing the development as unfortunate, he said the local government was already working with security agencies to secure the monarch’s release.
“We are deeply concerned about this incident, and we are taking swift and decisive action in collaboration with security agencies,” he said.
He added that security personnel, alongside forest guards and local vigilantes, had intensified search efforts across the surrounding areas.
According to him, the combined operation is aimed at ensuring the safe rescue of the abducted monarch.
The council boss also called on residents to support ongoing efforts by providing useful information, stressing that “community cooperation remains critical in addressing security challenges and restoring peace.”
Yusuf urged the people of Olayinka to remain calm, despite the situation, assuring them that authorities were fully committed to resolving the crisis.
He said every necessary step was being taken to ensure the monarch’s safe return.
CDS tasks troops to crush terrorists, ensure lasting peace
After reviewing the security situation in the country yesterday, Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, General Olufemi Oluyede, charged troops to intensify ongoing operations against terrorists and other criminal elements in the North West and crush them, stressing that Nigeria must be made safe at all costs.
Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said General Oluyede gave the charge during his operational visit to the Headquarters Theatre Command, Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fasan Yamma, OPFY, in Gusau, Zamfara State.
“The visit was aimed at assessing operational readiness, addressing challenges confronting troops and boosting morale in the ongoing campaign to restore peace and security in the region,’’ he said.
Addressing troops, General Oluyede commended their resilience, courage and sacrifices in the defence of the nation, urging them to remain disciplined, professional and relentless in the fight against banditry and terrorism.
“The safety of our citizens rests on our shoulders. You must remain resolute and go after these criminals until they are eliminated. We must make Nigeria safe at all cost,” he said.
The CDS assured the troops of continued support in the areas of welfare, training and provision of necessary operational equipment to enable them discharge their duties effectively.
He also reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to sustaining pressure on criminal groups until lasting peace was restored across the North West and the entire nation.
General Oluyede acknowledged the importance of air support in ongoing operations, noting that efforts were underway to enhance operational capabilities through additional platforms and improved coordination across theatres of operations.
As part of the visit, the CDS paid a courtesy call on the governor of Zamfara State, Mallam Dauda Lawal, and appreciated him for his continued support to Operation Fasan Yamma as well as the military generally.
He also commended the people of Zamfara for their cooperation and called for sustained collaboration, particularly in the area of timely and credible intelligence sharing.

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja yesterday admitted nine exhibits against former Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, alongside his wife, Hajia Bashir Asabe, and his son, Abubakar Malami.
Trial judge is Justice Joyce Abdulmalik.
The exhibits were tendered before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in its ongoing trial of the former AGF, his son and wife.
EFCC is prosecuting the defendants on an amended 16-count charge bordering on conspiracy, procuring, disguising, concealing and laundering proceeds of unlawful activities to the tune of N8,713,923,759.49 contrary to the provisions of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
The exhibits, which are documentary evidence, were tendered through the 4th prosecution witness (PW4), a compliance officer with Zenith Bank Plc, Mashelia Bata, while being led in evidence by the prosecution counsel, Jibrin Okutepa, SAN.
The witness told the court that, in the course of his official duties, he received correspondence from the EFCC requesting documents relating to several accounts linked to the defendants and associated entities.
He said, as a compliance officer with Zenith Bank, Maitama branch, his duty include receiving correspondence from law enforcement agencies and responding accordingly.
The witness further disclosed that the bank complied with EFCC’s requests by providing both soft and hard copies of documents relating to accounts belonging to the defendants and companies such as, Rayhaan Hotels Limited, Rayhaan Bustan Agro Allied Limited, Nashab Limited, Golden Age Global Ventures, and Rahamaniyya Properties Limited.
He told the court that, the documents were nine in number that, he can identify them when presented in court.
Upon an application by the prosecution counsel, the court admitted the documents, dated between July 19, 2024 and March 12, 2026, as Exhibits D1 to D9, despite an initial objection by defence counsel, Joseph Daudu, SAN, who noted that the dates are almost in the month of March.
Continuing his testimony under further examination by the prosecution counsel, Ekele Iheanacho, SAN, the witness provided details of transactions contained in the exhibits.
He identified Exhibit D1 as containing account opening documents and statements for accounts belonging to Abubakar Malami and A.A. Malami & Co, including a naira account and a dollar account.
According to him, the statement of account for one of the accounts covered the period from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2023 and confirmed that the accounts were active between 2015 and 2023, noting that “there were transfers within that period.”
The witness also revealed that total credits into one of the accounts stood at N383,637,21.55 between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2023, while total credits from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2015 amounted to N560,506,465.12.
On debits, he stated that N384,322,120.85 was recorded between 2016 and 2023, while N571,891,174.08 was debited between 2012 and 2015.
Giving further breakdown of transactions, the witness told the court that on November 11, 2020, the account received N194,791,608.00 from New Horizons Limited, and on June 24, 2022, it received N622,500,000.00 from Rayhaan Bustan Agro Allied Limited.
He added that on July 1 and July 7, 2022, the account received N250 million each from Rayhaan Hotels Limited, while on December 22, 2022, there was an inflow of N500 million linked to Rayhaan Bustan Agro Allied Limited.
The witness further identified so many transactions running into billions.
Following the testimony, the defence counsel, Daudu, SAN, sought an adjournment to enable him study the exhibits and prepare for cross-examination.
Justice Abdulmalik subsequently adjourned the matter till May 13, 2026, for cross examination of the 4th prosecution witness.]]>
The Nigerian police on Monday detained an Abuja-based shop owner, Love Dooshima, who critically reviewed an unnamed bread brand online.
Ms Dooshima was freed from custody at about 1 a.m. Tuesday, Inibehe Effiong, a lawyer who joined other activists in working for her release, said.
Mr Effiong said the businesswoman was detained by operatives at the Zone 7 Police Headquarters after she honoured an invitation regarding a complaint filed by BON Bread against her.
The bread company claims Ms Dooshima’s review, which did not mention any brand, was hurting its business.
“We received a distress call this night that she honoured police invitation since 12pm on Monday, April 20, 2026, but she was detained afterwards,” Mr Effiong wrote on Facebook early Tuesday morning.
“I came to Zone 7 this night along with MamaPee and Randy-Peter Akah. Following the intervention of the IGP, Tunji Disu, she has been released at 12:30 AM today, Tuesday, April 21, 2026. We will be back by daybreak.”
A viral claim by Love Dooshima that a loaf of bread remained fresh on her shelf for two months had sparked controversy and discussions about food safety practices in Nigeria.
Following the viral post, Ms Dooshima alleged that Bon Bread demanded the video be taken down and that the bread company later threatened or initiated legal action seeking damages.
The bread company has denied any wrongdoing and defended its production processes.
A food science expert also said the kind of scenario painted by Ms Dooshima is highly unlikely under normal conditions.
To understand standard bread production practices, Gistmania spoke to Christine Ikpeme, a professor of Food Science at the University of Calabar, who said bread typically has a short shelf life even when preservatives are used.
Ms Christine explained that, normally, bread without preservatives lasts about two days, whereas bread with approved preservatives can last two to three weeks at most.
She noted that any claim that bread remained fresh for up to two months on a shelf suggests either excessive use of preservatives or the use of substances that may not be approved for food production.
She explained that food safety regulations in most countries are guided by internationally recognised standards, including Codex Alimentarius-type frameworks, which are adopted and enforced locally by agencies such as the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
“These approved preservatives are safe only within recommended limits. When used properly, they do not harm human health,” she said.
The professor listed common preservatives used in bread production, including calcium propionate and sodium benzoate, noting that they are designed to inhibit microbial growth such as fungi.
“These preservatives help prevent mould, but only for a limited period. They are effective for maybe two to three weeks under normal conditions,” she added.
She further said that potassium benzoate and similar compounds are also used in food preservation, but all must remain within regulated safety thresholds.
Gistmania has no evidence at this point that Bon or the bread brand reviewed by Ms Dooshima used excessive preservatives or compromised standards in its products.
However, Ms Christine warned that deviations from approved food safety standards could pose serious health risks to consumers, while specifically referencing bromate, a substance once used in baking but now banned due to health concerns relating to cancer.
She also warned that the use of unapproved preservatives or excessive chemical additives could expose consumers to long-term health risks, including potential toxic effects.
She urged consumers to be more attentive when buying packaged bread, especially regarding texture, freshness, and labelling, adding that bread should remain soft and moist for a reasonable period after production, depending on its formulation.
“When bread becomes rubbery, it may indicate internal mould growth, even if it is not visible outside,” she said.
She also stressed the importance of checking “best before” dates on packaging and being alert to unusual changes in texture or smell.
In response to the controversy, the Chief Executive Officer of Bon Bread, Maria Umeagwukadilo, has publicly defended the safety of the company’s products.
In a video statement, Ms Umeagwukadilo said the viral claim had caused significant damage to her business, which she said she has built over nearly 20 years.

A dispatch rider has lost his life in a fatal road accident along the Motorways inward Estate axis of Alapere, Lagos, after being struck by an empty tanker reportedly moving at high speed.
Preliminary findings indicate that the tanker, branded “NIPCO” and bearing registration number TTN-776ZQ, rammed into the rider, leading to his instant death at the scene.
Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, responded swiftly to the incident, working to stabilise the situation as fellow dispatch riders gathered at the scene and confronted the tanker driver in anger.
LASTMA operatives were said to have intervened to rescue the driver, who sustained injuries, and subsequently handed him over to personnel of the Lagos State Ambulance Service for immediate medical attention at a nearby hospital.
Police officers from the Alausa Division were also deployed to the scene to restore order and disperse the crowd.
Reacting to the development, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended condolences to the family of the deceased and urged motorists, particularly tanker drivers, to adhere strictly to traffic regulations.
“This unfortunate incident underscores the urgent need for heightened vigilance and collective responsibility among all road users to safeguard lives,” he said.

Nollywood actor Daniel Etim-Effiong has recounted how his father was arrested, tried, and sentenced to death during Nigeria’s military era over alleged links to a coup plot against former head of state Ibrahim Babangida.
Speaking on The Diary of a Naija Girl podcast two days ago, Etim-Effiong revealed that the incident happened when he was just an infant.
“I was one year old when he was arrested for a coup against President Ibrahim Babangida. His best friend in the army had told him of plans that he had to kick Babangida out of power. And the big question became for him, should he tell on his friend or should he not tell on his friend?” he said.
The actor explained that the situation escalated after the alleged plot was uncovered by authorities.
“When the whole thing was leaked, my dad’s best friend was arrested, and they asked him, ‘Who did you tell about this coup plot?’ And he said he told my dad. My dad was arrested as well, and he was tried and sentenced to death by a firing squad. Miraculously, he survived that ordeal.
“He was released in 1993 but waited until 2020 before he was granted a presidential pardon”, he added.

A Lagos-based businessman, previously declared wanted over allegations of multiple killings and property destruction, has been arrested in the Benin Republic and extradited to Nigeria through the efforts of the International Criminal Police Organization, INTERPOL.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos, Moshood Jimoh, confirmed the development on Monday during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters, where the suspect was officially handed over to Nigerian authorities.
According to him, the suspect, Ahmed Akanbi, 38, was apprehended on April 15, 2026, at a hotel in Cotonou after months of coordinated tracking by international law enforcement agencies.
He noted that Akanbi had been moving across several countries, as indicated in his passport records, since he was declared wanted in connection with a series of violent crimes in Lagos State.
“This case involves multiple murders, attempted murders, and destruction of lives and property spanning several years. The suspect, Ahmed Akanbi, was earlier declared wanted alongside other accomplices, Safiu Fatai, Yusuf Ismaila, Soji Mascot, and one Kenny.
“I can confirm to you that he has now been arrested by INTERPOL operatives in Benin Republic and handed over to INTERPOL Nigeria, and today handed to us at Zone 2 command. Investigations will be concluded before he is charged to court,” Jimoh said.
The AIG explained that the case regained momentum following a petition addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, which triggered a renewed and discreet investigation into a series of killings in the Ojomu area of Lagos.
Preliminary findings, he said, revealed that some arrested accomplices had confessed to carrying out the attacks on the instructions of the suspect, who allegedly financed the operations.
Providing details of the incidents, Jimoh stated that Sheriff Ishola was killed on April 18, 2023, while Prince Ademola Akinloye was murdered on August 26, 2024, both within the Eti-Osa axis of Lagos, in what he described as coordinated and premeditated attacks.
He added that earlier investigations conducted by previous Commissioners of Police in Lagos had made significant progress, with additional evidence later emerging to further implicate the suspect.
Jimoh also warned against the spread of misinformation or attempts to politicise the case, assuring that due process would be followed to ensure justice is served.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to ensuring that no individual, regardless of status, escapes justice. We will follow due process and ensure that all those involved are prosecuted,” he said.
He further called on individuals who may have been affected by the suspect’s alleged activities to come forward with relevant information to support ongoing investigations. He encouraged victims of property destruction, financial interference, personal harm, or attempted murder to submit complaints without fear.
According to him, petitions can be directed to his office, the AIG in charge of Special Operations, or Commissioners of Police in Lagos and Ogun states, with assurances that all submissions will be thoroughly investigated and treated with confidentiality.
Describing the alleged crimes as harmful to national development, Jimoh said such activities undermine efforts to attract investment, support small and medium-scale enterprises, and promote housing development. He assured that the identities of complainants would be protected.
“Victims should not be afraid. They can submit their petitions, and their identities will be adequately protected,” he added.
Also speaking, the Commissioner of Police, INTERPOL, Fidelis Ogarabe, attributed the arrest to effective international collaboration.
He explained that intelligence received by INTERPOL in Nigeria led operatives to the suspect’s location in Cotonou, prompting swift action to apprehend him.
“Our counterparts in Benin Republic cooperated fully. After due processes, the suspect was handed over to our team and brought back to Nigeria. We have now transferred him to the AIG in charge of the case for continuation of investigation,” Ogarabe said.

Operatives of the Yobe State Police Command have cracked down on criminal syndicate involved in burglary, theft, and phone snatching.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, State this in a statement issued on Tuesday and made available to newsmen in Damaturu.
According to the statement, seven members of the syndicate were arrested, and stolen phones recovered.
“In a coordinated operation carried out by operatives of ‘A’ Division, Damaturu, between 16th and 19th April, 2026, a notorious criminal syndicate operating within Nayinawa, Bindigari, One Million Road, and Pompomari wards of Damaturu was successfully dismantled.
“The operation led to the arrest of seven (7) suspects identified as: Usman Mohd, 20 years; Abubakar Adamu, 20 years; Mohd Ibrahim, 22 years; Mohd Goni, 19 years; Khalifa Mohd, 19 years; Abubakar Mohammed, 19 years and Ali Mohammed, 23 years,” the statement added.
It said during interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in a series of burglary, theft, and phone snatching incidents within Damaturu metropolis.

Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised many bandits and destroyed their camps in coordinated operations in Bauchi State.
Governor Bala Mohammed confirmed this while briefing newsmen at the end of a closed door security meeting on Monday in Bauchi.
Mohammed said the military conducted successful operations in synergy with the Police, other security agencies and vigilantes.
“The operations routed bandits’ enclaves in Dajin Malam Forest linking Bauchi, Plateau and Taraba.
“The troops neutralised thousands of bandits, destroyed camps and motorcycles. They also disrupted their supply routes, forcing many of them to flee.
“The troops dismantled several bandits camps.
“Four war planes bombed the bandits and successfully cleared several camps, disrupting criminal activities within the forests. Several bandits were neutralised while others fled under sustained military pressure.
“Several motorcycles used by the criminals were destroyed, limiting their mobility and operational capability,” he said.
According to the governor, the state government had provided a temporary surrender window to the bandits, and urged them to lay down their arms, to consolidate recent security gains.
He stressed the need for a balanced approach that combines enforcement with an opportunity for rehabilitation.
He said that arrangements were being made to relocate surrendered bandits and their families, adding that most of them were not indigenes of the state.
The governor announced plans to conduct a biometric data capture of residents in the affected communities as part of broader security reforms to end banditry, ensure peace and stability.
Mohammed said the government would adopt strict surveillance mechanisms, intelligence-led monitoring and verification of activities in markets, motor parks and public spaces.
He said the state government would also strengthen community-based security systems via recruitment and support to vigilantes to enable them to complement security agencies.]]>
Residents of Maya Olorijo Estate in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, on Monday, staged a peaceful protest over a prolonged power outage that has persisted for about 18 months.
The demonstrators said the extended blackout has disrupted economic activities, weakened livelihoods, and created severe hardship within the community.
The protest, which involved landlords and youths, saw participants march to the Ikeja Electric Business District in the Alogba area, displaying placards and chanting in unison to draw attention to their plight.
Some of the placards bore messages such as, “18 months in darkness, killing Olorijo” and “18 months, no light for creditworthy customers, bring back our transformer.”
Speaking during the demonstration, Chairman of the Olorijo Community Development Association, Victor Ologhobo, explained that the crisis began after a transformer serving the estate developed a fault.
He said officials of Ikeja Electric removed the faulty transformer on January 13, 2025, for repairs, but it has yet to be returned.
According to him, the absence of electricity since then has made daily living and business operations increasingly difficult for residents.

Members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa State, on Monday held a peaceful demonstration at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Dutse, calling for the recognition of what they described as the party’s authentic national leadership.
The protesters marched to the commission’s state office and submitted a petition, accusing INEC of undermining democratic principles in its handling of the party’s leadership matter.
They maintained that the David Mark-led leadership remains the legally recognised authority of the ADC and alleged that the electoral body was showing institutional bias.
Speaking with journalists during the protest, they argued that INEC lacks the constitutional right to interpret court judgments, insisting that such powers belong solely to the judiciary.
According to them, the commission’s actions pose a threat to democratic governance, political neutrality and public confidence in the electoral process.
Among their demands were the immediate reinstatement of the recognised ADC leadership on INEC’s official portal, a public apology to Nigerians, and accountability from the commission’s leadership.

Anambra Central Senator, Victor Umeh, has said that he expects former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to step down for younger presidential candidate in the African Democratic Congress, ADC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Senior Fellow, Centre for Democracy and Development, Prof Jibrin Ibrahim, has accused the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Joash Amupitan of partisanship.
Ibrahim made this allegation on Monday when he appeared as a guest in an interview on ‘Prime Time’, a programme on Arise Television.
According to him, though the INEC Chairman is new, there have been numerous evidence of partisanship within a short time.
Ibrahim, who is the chairman of Premium Times Editorial Board, attributed his allegation to Amupitan’s intervention in terms of targeting the main opposition party without a legal basis.
“This indicates we have a partisan person, who has come to do the job of his master. He had partisan opinions in the last election and showed that partisanship openly on X.
“I think the chairman of INEC is relatively new. He’s just been appointed, but in a very short time, we’ve seen numerous evidence of partisanship.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has refuted what it characterized as a malicious video circulating on the internet, attributed to the commission.
It stated that the visuals, names, and information presented in the video were fabricated and, in certain cases, generated by artificial intelligence, intended solely to mislead unsuspecting members of the public.
In a statement issued by J. Okor Odey, Head of Media and Public Communication, the Commission clarified that it had not released any report or statement endorsing the claims made in the video, including the purported involvement of any individual or judicial officer.
“To clarify, the ICPC is not conducting an investigation into any individual, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), group of lawyers, or judicial officer concerning the fictitious N50 billion bribe mentioned in the video,” the statement emphasized.
“No such case, transaction, or investigation is recorded within the Commission’s files. These assertions are completely false and should be ignored,” it further stated.
The ICPC reaffirmed its commitment to fulfilling its mandate of conducting credible, evidence-based investigations in accordance with the law.
It cautioned individuals or groups responsible for the creation and distribution of the video to cease their actions immediately.
“The ICPC will not permit the misuse of its name and institutional integrity to propagate disinformation under the guise of ‘content creation’,” it added.

Ordinarily, I would never have dignified such an insanely mischievous diatribe with a response, but due to its extremely divisive nature, it is only natural that I put this down.
The writer’s mission has exposed the attributes of someone who might perhaps be suffering from pseudologia fantastica. His mission was not only mischievous and dishonest, but also erroneous, laced with incorrect narratives that can only be spun by unctuous, dissipated, debauched, and desperate elements attempting to turn a perfectly organised APC Ogun East stakeholders’ meeting—where His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, was endorsed as the senatorial candidate of the APC in the upcoming 2027 general elections into something mendacious and devious.
There is a season for politics, and then there is a season for statecraft. The two are not the same, though mischief-makers delight in blurring the line. We are entering the latter—a period when far-reaching decisions are made for the good of the state, when roads must be laid, hospitals stocked, salaries paid, and oil wells brought to life. Yet here comes an article dressed as investigation, parading as conscience, that offers nothing but hearsay, envelopes, and anonymous threats. This is not journalism. This is the politics of the poisoned well, and those who drink from it will find only thirst.
The piece titled “Ogun East Ticket: How Dapo Abiodun Is Buying, Threatening, and Manipulating His Way to a Senatorial Showdown” can best be described as mischievous politics taken too far. Let us name what is happening. Governor Dapo Abiodun has performed creditably well in infrastructure, education, health, and aviation. The Gateway International Airport is not a rumour; it is tarmac and terminal. Two oil wells have been discovered in Ogun State, and soon the state will be counted among Nigeria’s oil-producing entities. Salaries are paid as and when due. Pensions are paid. Gratuities are paid. When last did Ogun workers go on strike? When last did the ghost of unpaid wages haunt the corridors of power? The governor has turned the state into a construction site, not a conspiracy theory. Yet the article mentions none of this. Why? Because facts are inconvenient. Envelopes sell.
The writer claims that Governor Abiodun is bribing 400 persons at the Adeola Odutola Event Hall in Ijebu-Ode. Four hundred names? No list. No photograph of an opened envelope. No bank statement.
The truth is that the hall held the full complement of Ogun East’s leadership: every councillor, all ward chairmen, all ward executives, all local government chairmen, all local government executives, all serving members of the National Assembly, all serving members of the State Assembly, all past members of the State and National Assembly, and all members of the State Advisory Council.
Therefore, what manner of slumber produces a dream where an entire political class sells its honour in full view of one another, with not a single dissenting voice or leaking hand?
This article is part of the damage bad politics inflicts. It does not seek truth; it seeks traction. It does not serve Ogun East; it serves the writer’s appetite for influence and whatever mission he pursues. The governor’s office had not responded as of press time, the article admits. Then why publish? Why not wait for a reply? Because waiting is honourable, and honour is not the currency here.
The most audacious paragraph accuses the governor of colliding with President Bola Tinubu. “He is calling Aso Rock’s bluff,” a “senior party figure” says—anonymous, of course. The Presidency has not commented, the article concedes. So, the writer manufactures a collision between two leaders who have worked together to stabilise the party and the state. This is not politics. This is pantomime.
And what of the “ranking senator” argument? The article insists that sacrificing a ranking senator for a first-term aspirant is self-harm. A fair point—if delivered in good faith. But this is not good faith; this is a cudgel. The same writer who weeps for senatorial seniority says nothing about the seniority of development—the roads, the schools, the airport, the emerging oil economy. Ogun State has taken on a new look. That is the ranking that matters.
Let me say this plainly: playing politics with everything around us—with every rumour, every anonymous whisper, every imagined slight—is the fastest way to fracture a state. The political season demands vigilance, yes, but it also demands restraint. Decisions are being made for the good of the state: budgets approved, roads awarded, schools renovated, health centres equipped. If we drown these in hearsay, we lose the signal in the noise.
The governor, Dapo Abiodun, has run this race and continues to run it—toward a gold medal, as his supporters would say. That is not empty praise; it is the testimony of visible works. The airport did not build itself. The oil wells did not discover themselves. Salaries did not pay themselves. If opponents wish to contest, let them present their own performance index—their own roads, their own schools, their own record on pensions. But do not bring envelopes without evidence. Do not bring threats without names. Do not bring anonymous chieftains who speak only in shadows.
The article ends with theatrical gravity: “The real verdict on who enters the Red Chamber will not be delivered in an envelope at the Adeola Odutola Hall. It will be delivered at the ballot.” Agreed. And not every journalist who shouts “fire” in a crowded theatre is a hero. Some are simply arsonists with bylines.
Give honour to whom it is due. Governor Dapo Abiodun has performed. Let his works be his witness. And let this article be remembered for what it is: mischief dressed in a trench coat, caught in the rain without an umbrella.

The Nigeria Police Force has announced a significant operational success with the rescue of all individuals kidnapped in the Otukpo incident.
This event involved passengers from a Benue Links bus and occurred on April 15, 2026.
A statement issued by DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the Force Public Relations Officer, indicated that based on reliable intelligence, the operatives of the Benue State Police Command initiated coordinated clearance operations throughout the Amla Forest corridor and surrounding regions.
He noted that these actions resulted in the safe recovery of the remaining 13 victims, which included eight students traveling to Otukpo for their UTME examinations.
“In total, all 18 passengers have now been accounted for. Each rescued individual has undergone medical evaluation, is in stable condition, and will be reunited with their families following debriefing,” he stated.
He further elaborated that during the operation, seven suspects were apprehended, three of whom have been positively identified as members of the kidnapping syndicate.
He added that investigations are ongoing to capture additional accomplices and dismantle the broader criminal network responsible for the attack.
He confirmed that the suspects are in custody and are being interrogated in accordance with legal procedures.
According to Mr. Placid, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, praised the professionalism, resilience, and bravery exhibited by the officers and personnel of the Benue State Command.

The US–Israel–Iran conflict has triggered major external shocks, disrupting energy markets, tightening global financial conditions, and introducing renewed inflationary pressures across economies.
This is according to the Minister of Finance, who echoed the threats at the just-concluded IMF / World Bank Spring Meetings, saying the shock comes amid economic reforms aimed at lifting millions out of poverty.
He noted that the disruptions have led to high fuel prices, increased food costs and placed inflationary pressures on Nigerian households.
Edun, who led the Nigerian delegation to the meeting, said amid the challenges, the Nigerian government is working to improve the country’s macroeconomics and attract and scale investments required to lift millions out of poverty.
Addressing the Nigerian delegation, Edun noted that crude oil prices have experienced significant volatility since the start of the conflict, rising between 35% to over 50%, driven primarily by disruption in the Strait of Hormuz.
“Bonny Light, Nigeria’s kind of oil, jumped from around $70 – $73 a barrel to highs exceeding $110 – $120.
“Volatility in global energy markets is already influencing domestic energy-related commodities, with direct implications for prices and the standard of living of Nigerians.
“Petrol prices rose by over 50%, from about N890 – N900 to N1260 – N1330. Diesel prices surged by over 70%, from N1,100 per litre to about N1,550 at the peak,” Edun said.
Despite the challenges, Edun told the IMF delegates that Nigeria entered the global uncertainty period from a strengthened economic fundamentals standpoint compared to recent economic shocks such as COVID–19 and the Russian / Ukraine war.

Suspected armed herders have k!lled five people in a fresh attack on the Tse Ameen community in Mbapa Council Ward, Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to locals, the assailants invaded the community on Saturday night, April 18, 2926 and unleashed an attack on the sleepy community.
One of the locals who did not want to be named told journalists in a telephone interview on Monday, April 29 that five bodies were recovered on Sunday and many others were still missing.
“Five corpses, which included three males and two females, were recovered yesterday,” the source said.
The spokesperson for the state command, DSP Udeme Edet, who confirmed the attack to journalists on Monday, said four bodies were recovered.

A driver of a GUO Transport Company bus was over the weekend killed by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.
An unspecified number of passengers in the bus were also abducted by the gunmen.
The incident occurred on Sunday along the Benin-Lagos highway, when the gunmen ambushed the bus heading toward the Eastern axis of the country from Lagos
It was gathered that the assailants opened fire on the vehicle, forcing it to a halt, killing the driver at the spot, and the passengers were reportedly whisked into the bush.
A video of the incident has since gone viral on various social media platforms.
The Edo State Police Command’s, Spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, who confirmed the incident disclosed that the police operatives have commenced bush combing to rescue the kidnapped passengers and possibly arrest the perpetrators.

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former special adviser on political matters to Vice-President Kashim Shettima, has said President Bola Tinubu is disconnected from the realities facing Nigerians.
Speaking on The Morning Show, Baba-Ahmed criticised recent remarks by the president suggesting that Nigerians who do not see progress under his administration are either biased or unable to recognise development.
Tinubu had dismissed critics last week, saying those who fail to see the “hope” in his policies may need prescription glasses.
“If they don’t want to see the hope… we shall lend them ‘jigi-bola’… eyeglasses,” the president said.
Reacting, Baba-Ahmed said the comment raises serious concerns about the government’s awareness of current economic and security challenges.
“There is no way you can live in this country, see the level of poverty and unaccountability, and still expect Nigerians to applaud your performance,” he said.
The national chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party added that the administration’s reforms have not translated into improved living conditions for citizens.

Popular Nigerian cryptocurrency entrepreneur, Linus Williams Ifejirika, better known as Blord, has finally been released from the Kuje Correctional Facility.
Blord was released after meeting his bail conditions on Monday evening.
This came 20 days after he was remanded for allegedly impersonating VeryDarkMan.
Gistmania recalls that the entrepreneur was granted bail and was also ordered to deposit his international passport as part of his bail conditions on Friday.
However, he was returned to prison after his passport could not arrive in Abuja from Anambra State on time.

Troops of the Nigerian Army have intercepted suspected logistics couriers and recovered ammunition during operations carried out in parts of Kogi State.
The development was disclosed in a statement shared on April 20, 2026, on the official page of the Army.
According to the statement, the operation followed a series of intelligence-led efforts conducted over recent months aimed at disrupting supply routes linked to suspected terrorist activities within the state.
It was gathered that on March 29, troops deployed along the Jamata Owara Road in Lokoja Local Government Area intercepted a suspect riding a motorcycle allegedly modified with a concealed compartment used for transporting ammunition.
The Army said preliminary findings linked the suspect to known criminal elements, leading to further operations in the area.
In a related development, troops reportedly mounted a checkpoint along the Obajana–Kabba Road on April 20, where a Toyota bus conveying two suspects was intercepted.
It was further noted that the suspects, identified as Mallam Zubairu Abubakar and Adamu Abubakar Abdullahi, were arrested during the operation.
“A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 314 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and three AK-47 magazines concealed behind the driver’s seat,” the statement said.
Other items recovered from the suspects include mobile phones and identification documents.
The Army added that the suspects have been handed over to military intelligence authorities for further investigation.

Nafiu Bala, the former deputy national chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has alleged that Ralph Nwosu, former national chairman of the ADC, deceived him into attending the adoption ceremony of the party by the coalition.
In an interview with AIT, Bala said he was unaware that Nwosu, had planned to appoint David Mark, former senate president, and Rauf Aregbesola, former Osun state governor, as the party’s chairman and national secretary, respectively.
Bala said that he attended the ceremony because they had planned to announce the adoption of ADC by the coalition for the 2027 general election before the twist.
“The day the coalition said that they wanted to adopt ADC as a party, and announced to the world… Ralph Nwosu announced his resignation and announced that David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola had been appointed as the chairman and national secretary of the ADC on the same day. I was surprised because that was not what took me there,” Bala said.
“They only came to introduce themselves and adopt ADC as a party for the 2027 general election.”
Bala noted that after the incident, he notified and organised a meeting with the national working committee (NWC) and the national executive council (NEC) of the party before seeking redress in court.
“One week later, I met with the national working committee across the country for consultation before taking action,” he said.
“After the consultation, I wrote to INEC as the deputy national chairman, acting as the chairman of the party. After the consultation, I went to court.”
ADC has been embroiled in internal disputes with Bala and the David Mark-led faction both claiming the party’s leadership.
Bala rejected reports that he resigned his position as deputy national chairman of the ADC, alleging that his signature was forged.
He has also asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise him as national chairman of the ADC.]]>
Nigerian media personality Roby Ekpo has opened up about the breakdown of his marriage with his estranged wife, Mayowa Lambe, accusing her of infidelity, deception, and financial strain in a deeply emotional account.
Roby Ekpo, who appeared and spoke in an unreleased episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, said he was shocked to discover that his wife had remarried another man after more than a decade together.
“After 11 years of marriage, I woke up to videos and pictures of my wife on Instagram getting married to another man,” he said.

“If I send my wife a message on her Instagram DM, she would question me why I was sending a message there. She would say ‘they (immigration) check’,” he said.
He further alleged that Lambe shared personal complaints about their relationship with others.
“10 years of my life. If I had a kid out of wedlock, I would have justified that Mayowa can do whatever she likes, what did I do, but just love. Mayowa travelled for six years; with the little money I was earning, I was sending money to Mayowa every time. I was sending flowers,” he said.
“Since 2021, I have not seen Mayowa again, until last year, I sent her ticket money to come to Nigeria. I went to the airport in two cars. I could not get a clip of hugging my wife. She did not kiss me. I slept in the living room for two days. I will send her N200k from the N500k gig.”
Ekpo also claimed financial strain during the marriage, saying he regularly supported her despite his own earnings.
The media personality alleged that Lambe once told someone he was not meeting her needs.

Pandemonium broke out at the Owo Local Government Secretariat in Ondo State on Monday as suspected thugs descended on the council chairman, Mr Tope Omolayo, ass@ulting and str!pping him almost n@ked in a brazen show of force that left workers in shock.
Omolayo, who was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was earlier suspended by elected councillors of the council over allegations of gross misconduct.
After serving the suspension, the embattled chairman resumed duties on Monday when the thugs allegedly pounced on him, b3ating him mercilessly.
According to an eyewitness, Omolayo arrived at the council secretariat in the morning to resume duties after about six months of suspension when the suspected thugs allegedly invaded the secretariat in a bid to stop him from entering the office, leading to an argument and later a free-for-all.
“They beat him mercilessly, tore his clothes and left him almost completely n@ked. It was an embarrassment. The entire secretariat went into commotion as people were running for safety while the thugs fired shots into the air,” the eyewitness stated.
Speaking with punch on the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the command swiftly reacted to the matter by deploying personnel to the secretariat to forestall a breakdown of law and order.
“The attention of the Command was drawn to this report. Upon receipt, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, promptly ordered the immediate deployment of security personnel and operational assets to the scene,” the PPRO said.
“This swift response has successfully restored calm and normalcy in the area.

Yvette Flunder, the senior pastor of the City of Refuge United Church of Christ (UCC) in Oakland, California, as well as the Presiding Bishop of The Fellowship of Affirming Ministries, made the statement during a recent message for the Center for Public Theology & Public Policy.
She stated that some parts of the old and new testament are "problematic". She went on to state that a third testament is needed because the second testamemt is not the word of God, rather it is the word about God.

The Nigerian Navy has successfully rescued three individuals who attempted to travel illegally to Europe by hiding aboard a merchant vessel in Lagos.
According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria, the stowaways were discovered on board the MSC STELLA (IMO No. 9279988) during a routine naval operation conducted near the Lagos Fairway Buoy. The operation was carried out by personnel of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT following credible intelligence provided by the Western Regional Control Centre.
Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho disclosed that the alert was received at approximately 5:05 p.m. on April 19. Acting swiftly, a Quick Response Team stationed at Tarkwa Bay was deployed to the scene. The team successfully intercepted the vessel and rescued the suspects about five nautical miles off the Lagos coastline.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the individuals had boarded the ship at about 1 a.m. on April 17 while it was docked at Tin Can Island Port in Lagos. Their intention, authorities say, was to stow away undetected and travel unlawfully to Europe.
The rescued individuals have been identified as Aguru Michael (27), a national of the Benin Republic; Soye Monday (25) from Ondo State; and Kentobou Peter (22) from Delta State.
The Nigerian Navy reiterated its commitment to maintaining maritime security and preventing illegal migration through the nation’s waterways.

Suspected terrorists attacked Kaiama Local Government of Kwara state in the early hours of today April 20, reportedly k!lling some persons including soldiers.
According to Punch, the attack, which occurred at about 3:00 a.m., was allegedly preceded by a threat letter reportedly sent to the community by the assailants, raising tension among residents in the days leading up to the incident. The attackers eventually struck under the cover of darkness, firing gunshots indiscriminately and throwing the community into panic as residents fled for safety.
According to sources, security operatives, including personnel of the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, swiftly responded and engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel that lasted until about 5:00 a.m.
“Our security agents, including the army and local vigilantes, engaged the attackers in an intense gun battle that lasted till about 5:00 a.m.,” a representative from Kaiama TV said
The source added that the attackers, upon arrival, allegedly launched an explosive device at a military camp in the area, causing significant damage before advancing further into the community. During the exchange of fire, casualties were recorded among security personnel.
“They k!lled some of our soldiers, but we still cannot ascertain how disastrous the attack was until daybreak,” the source stated.

Adekimi Ojo, Kwara State Commissioner of Police, has confirmed the arrest of 42 illegal miners after the abduction of Oba Salman Olátúnjí Aweda, of Olayinka community in Ifelodun Local Government Area.
The Kwara Police chief said the monarch was abducted by 10 fully armed terrorists on Saturday evening following the payment of royalty earlier to him in the day by miners.
“The terrorists broke down the door of his palace, fetched him from one of the rooms and demanded for money the miners gave him earlier in the day.
“The monarch immediately gave them the money and he was thereafter taken away with his brother who was with him.
“Immediately we got wind of the development, we swung into action, using drones and other logistics and we eventually arrested 42 illegal miners in the community.
“I cannot confirm whether those who abducted the monarch were among the illegal miners we arrested.
“But investigations still continue on the development.
“All the suspects are currently at the police headquarters in ilorin” the police commissioner disclosed.
The CP, however, added that while the monarch was being ferried away, his brother who was abducted barefoot without any sandals, told the bandits he was worn out and refused to go ahead with the journey.
The monarch’s brother reportedly told the terrorists to kill him if they wish, complaining that he was tired.
The police commissioner revealed that instead of killing him, the bandits tied him to a tree and went away with the monarch.
Meanwhile, it was gathered that the terrorists reached out to the community on Saturday, demanding N400 million before the monarch can regain his freedom.
Similarly, Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government Area in Kwara State, Abdulrasheed Femi Yusuf, confirmed the abduction of the traditional ruler, raising fresh concerns over insecurity in Kwara South Senatorial District.
Yusuf spoke on Saturday during a meeting with residents in the wake of the incident, which has unsettled the area.

Boko Haram has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Nigerian government over 416 captives in its custody.
The terrorist group had asked for ransom for the release of the captives, abducted in Borno State.
In a video, a masked spokesperson of the terror group, speaking in Hausa, warned that failure to meet the group’s demands within the stated deadline would lead to the killing of a large number of those being held, including women and children.
The group claimed it is holding 416 captives and insisted that urgent steps must be taken before the time runs out.
The spokesman said in Hausa, “We are Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidwatu Wal-Jihad under Imam Abu. Today being 19th April 2026, we are giving out a new message to Borno South Youth Alliance (BOSYA) also to the Nigerian government who are not our government.
“This is our first and last message. We give you 72 hours if you do not meet our demands we will share out the woman and children to different locations. All of them. You have made your decision, and we have made ours. We instruct you, in the name of Allah, not to exceed the given time.”
Boko Haram did not specify its demands in the video.

Nollywood actress, Toyin Abraham, has appealed to her supporters to stop attacking social media influencer Pelumi Olawuni, popularly known as Abike Shugaa, amid their ongoing public fallout.
In a short video shared on Snapchat on Monday, the actress urged her fans to forgive Olawuni and move on from the controversy that has dominated social media in recent days. Abraham also acknowledged that anger is a natural reaction but stressed the need for restraint.
“Please, to everybody, it’s okay. Please forgive her.
“There is no one that cannot get angry. Even Jesus was angry… let everything slide. This is a new week. Toyin Titans, no distractions, please,” she added.
The actress also called for a shift in focus, hinting at upcoming projects and a busy release schedule.
“We have a big task ahead of us. We have a lot of YouTube movies coming, and we have a bigger task ahead of us in December,” she said.
Abraham further reflected on past controversies, referencing the backlash she faced online after supporting Bola Tinubu. She, however, said the recent controversy had reshaped her approach to relationships and boundaries.
“For those asking why I didn’t spill the tea in 2023 and 2024… they were bashing me that period, they wanted to kill me,” she said.
“You said create boundaries, I will create boundaries. You said I should stop helping people, no problem. I have learnt my lesson, her too has learnt hers. Let it slide, let us change the topic,” she added.
Abraham’s plea comes after Olawuni had earlier released a lengthy video detailing her experience working with Abraham.

Retired personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and their families on Monday blocked a gate of the Presidential Villa in Abuja in protest against their continued inclusion in the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
The protesters, under the aegis of the Police Retired Officers Forum of Nigeria (PROF), described the scheme as “fraudulent, illegal, inhumane, and obnoxious,” calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to assent to the Police Exit Bill.
According to the retirees, the bill—passed by the National Assembly on December 4, 2025, and transmitted to the Presidency on March 16, 2026—would remove police personnel from the CPS if signed into law.
Leading the protest, the National Coordinator of PROF, CSP Raphael Irowainu (retd.), said the demonstration was aimed at urging the president to act on the legislation.
“Our major aim here is to prevail on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sign our bill—the bill exiting the police from the Contributory Pension Scheme—passed by the National Assembly on 4th December 2025 and transmitted to him on 16th March, 2026, into law, nothing more than that,” he said.
Irowainu lamented that while other security agencies have been removed from the scheme, police personnel remain included.
“The soldiers have been exited, the SSS has been exited, the Air Force has been exited, the Navy has been exited, the National Intelligence Agency has been exited. The police, who are the father of them all, are trapped in this obnoxious Contributory Pension Scheme,” he added.
The retirees argued that the CPS has adversely affected their welfare, describing it as a “slavery and untimely death-inducing pension scheme.”
Monday’s protest is not the first by retired police officers over the issue. In July 2025, retirees staged a similar demonstration at the National Assembly, demanding their removal from the scheme.
Some of the demonstrators, many of them elderly, also protested at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, decrying what they described as poor pension conditions under the CPS.

She stated that while in transit, the elderly woman complained that her phone was making so much noise and asked her to reduce the volume. She claimed she complied and reduced the volume, however, the elderly woman continued to complain before raining curses on her, while accusing her of being badly behaved.
She said that a heated argument between her and the elderly woman ensued and in this process, the woman allegedly gave her a sl@p. According to her, she didn’t retaliate but berated the lady for assaulting her.
She said things took a different turn when the elderly woman gave her another sl@p. She said it was at this point she got angry and descended on the woman.

The police have confirmed the abduction of 15 passengers on the Calabar-Oron waterways.
Some gunmen, on Friday, ambushed a ferry travelling from Calabar, Cross River State, to Oron, Akwa Ibom State, and abducted the passengers, the News Agency of Nigeria quoted an unnamed naval officer as saying.
The police spokesperson in Cross River, Sunday Eitokpah, confirmed the abduction in a statement to reporters on Monday.
“The command is working in collaboration with the Akwa Ibom Command and the Navy.
“Coordinated search-and-rescue and tactical operations are currently ongoing to ensure the safe recovery of the victims and the swift apprehension of the perpetrators,” Mr Eitokpah, an assistant superintendent of police, said in the statement.
There have been frequent abductions of passengers on Calabar-Oron waterways lately, especially as Nigerians have resorted to travel by water because the Calabar-Itu Federal Highway is dilapidated.
The latest incident occurred seven months after 17 passengers were abducted in September 2025 on the same waterways.
Also, gunmen, in April 2025, abducted 20 passengers who were travelling in a boat from Oron to Calabar.
Abduction for ransom has become a prevalent crime in many Nigerian cities, with just anyone, including students and clerics, as targets.]]>
