Journalist Rufai Oseni has criticised Primate Elijah Ayodele over his recent warning to President Bola Tinubu regarding the release of documents connected to an alleged past drug and criminal investigation in the United States.
Speaking during a debate on Arise News, Rufai argued that Tinubu should welcome the release of the documents instead of attempting to prevent them from becoming public.
According to him, the president should be the one pushing for full disclosure so Nigerians and the international community can see the documents and judge the matter for themselves.
“For the interest of sincerity, it is best that he is even the one not getting lawyers to be able to quash the process, but championing it to say, okay, release whatever they have of me so that I’ll be able to show to the world that it is not what a lot of people think.”
Rufai also took issue with Primate Ayodele’s position that efforts should be made to stop the documents from being released. He repeatedly questioned the cleric’s stance, asking, “Which kind of shepherd is he?”
He went on to challenge the idea of a religious leader advising anyone to conceal their past when the matter involves the leader of a nation.
“Which kind of shepherd tells people to hide their past when it concerns a nation? Is that one a shepherd? Which kind of shepherd is saying somebody should do everything to quash a case when integrity has [to be considered]?”
Rufai further asked Nigerians to consider whether they would willingly entrust their personal affairs to someone giving such advice.
The journalist stressed that the controversy is bigger than Tinubu as an individual, arguing that the actions and reputation of Nigeria’s president inevitably affect how the country and its citizens are perceived internationally.
“Whatever President Tinubu does rubs off on all of us,” Rufai said, warning that the allegations could become a source of ridicule for Nigerians abroad.
He maintained that his argument was not simply about defending or attacking President Tinubu, but about the morality, integrity and strength of a nation.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has urged former Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, to make himself available for questioning over an alleged $14.86 million fraud.
Sylva, who was recently declared wanted by the anti-graft agency, announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, August 31, 2026.
The former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources disclosed that he had forwarded a copy of his resignation letter to the EFCC. In the letter, Sylva accused the commission of being used as an instrument of the ruling party, alleging that the agency was acting as an organ of the APC.
He also took a swipe at the ruling party, accusing its leadership of abandoning the principles and ideals upon which the APC was founded. According to him, the Tinubu administration has also failed to meet the expectations of Nigerians.
In his resignation letter dated August 31, 2026, Sylva said he could no longer remain in a political party whose leaders, in his assessment, had embraced the notion that “all is fair in politics.”
He further claimed that the original ideals of the APC had been “thoroughly and unrecognisably thwarted,” leaving him with no choice but to withdraw his membership.

A TikToker has sparked an emotional conversation online after lamenting the tragic death of an Igbo businessman who reportedly passed away before he could enjoy the fruits of his years of hard work.
Sharing images of the deceased’s impressive mansion and burial site, the TikToker reflected on the painful reality of life and how unpredictable death can be.

According to the TikToker, the deceased, popularly referred to as Odogwu, worked hard for years to build a beautiful home, but sadly never got the opportunity to spend even a single night there.

A tragic afternoon in New York City turned deadly on Monday when 32-year-old Erin Piacenti, a Bank of America vice president from Chester, New Jersey, was randomly stabbed to death during a knife attack in Times Square.
Piacenti worked as Vice President for Business Selection and Conflicts at Bank of America. The bank’s headquarters is located just a block from the area where she was killed.
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Piacenti was also a member of Penn Dischord, the university’s a cappella group. She married her husband, Frank, in August 2024, and the couple had recently marked their second wedding anniversary.
According to police, 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros of Queens allegedly pulled two kitchen knives from a Target shopping bag and began attacking people at random.
At around 4:24 p.m., Cisneros allegedly approached a 68-year-old man who was waiting to cross West 41st Street near Seventh Avenue with his wife and stabbed him in the abdomen. The man survived the attack.
Less than 20 seconds later, police said Cisneros moved north toward West 42nd Street, where she allegedly attacked Piacenti, stabbing her in the abdomen. Piacenti died from her injuries.
The suspect was eventually confronted by police near an NYPD substation on West 43rd Street. Authorities said the tense standoff lasted about four minutes, during which Cisneros allegedly threatened officers, saying, “I’m not dropping anything. I would rather kill both of you.”
Officers reportedly attempted to stop her with a Taser, but when that failed, police opened fire, killing Cisneros.
Videos recorded by bystanders appeared to show the suspect swinging the knives and charging toward officers. The footage reportedly captured the sound of the Taser being deployed before gunshots were heard.
The shocking attack has left Piacenti’s family, friends and colleagues mourning a young woman whose life was tragically cut short while she was simply going about her day.

Primate Elijah Ayodele has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to do everything within his power to prevent the FBI from releasing certain documents, warning that their publication could have serious political and economic consequences for his administration and Nigeria as a whole.
The cleric made the appeal while stressing that his position was not driven by political affiliation, ethnicity or a desire to see any side emerge victorious. Rather, he said his concern was about protecting Nigeria’s stability, continuity and progress.
“For the sake of Nigeria to be moving forward, for Nigerians’ parity, for Nigeria progress, Tinubu, do everything, everything! Don’t let America expose that document,” Ayodele said.
According to the cleric, the release of the documents could create significant uncertainty and potentially trigger actions against the current administration.
“When they expose that document, anything can happen. Economy can be intercepted. America can end this government, because they can call for arrest,” he stated.

The upcoming arrival of the USS Abraham Lincoln at Thailand’s Laem Chabang port, near the popular resort city of Pattaya, is expected to bring a major boost to the local economy—but it is also prompting authorities to tighten their watch on the city’s notorious nightlife scene.
The US aircraft carrier is scheduled to dock sometime between September 2 and 6, accompanied by two other US Navy vessels. Together, the ships are carrying nearly 5,000 sailors and Marines, many of whom have spent more than 200 consecutive days at sea following military operations in the Middle East.
For businesses in Pattaya, the visit could provide a welcome financial boost. Pattaya Mayor Poramase Ngampiches estimates that each service member could spend between 1,000 and 3,000 baht ($30–$91) per day while ashore, depending on how long they remain in the city and whether they stay overnight. Overall, city officials believe the visit could inject between 5 million and 15 million baht into the local economy.
But the expected surge in visitors has also raised concerns over Pattaya’s adult entertainment industry. Although prostitution and solicitation are technically illegal under Thai law, the industry remains highly visible and operates openly in parts of Pattaya and Bangkok.
In preparation for the sailors’ arrival, more than 200 police officers and social welfare officials conducted a late-night operation around Pattaya Beach and surrounding streets on August 29. A 45-year-old Nigerian-British taxi driver, Kolawole Erunkulu, has been sentenced to six years in prison after falling asleep behind the wheel and causing the death of a 59-year-old man in Surrey, United Kingdom.
The fatal crash happened shortly before 6:30am on August 17, 2025, on the A23 in Merstham. Erunkulu’s Audi suddenly swerved across the road and crashed into Philip Dray, who had parked his Volkswagen safely in a layby and was opening the driver’s door to get back into his vehicle. Philip died at the scene.
Erunkulu later pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.
Investigations revealed that he had driven for approximately 53 hours in the three days leading up to the crash. His longest period of rest was just seven hours, while some of his other breaks lasted only four and two hours. On the morning of the collision, he had already been driving for around 12 hours with only brief breaks.
Perhaps most disturbingly, a camera inside the vehicle captured Erunkulu experiencing “microsleep” — brief episodes of involuntary sleep that can last only a few seconds. During one of these episodes, his car drifted across the carriageway and struck Philip. The vehicle continued moving for another 10 seconds before eventually stopping at the next layby.
Erunkulu was charged in March 2026 and pleaded guilty in June. On August 25, 2026, Guildford Crown Court sentenced him to six years in prison for causing death by dangerous driving. He was also disqualified from driving for eight years and will have to undergo an extended driving test if he later applies to regain his licence.
The court heard that he would have faced a nine-year sentence had he been convicted after a trial.
Passing sentence, Her Honour Judge Lees said the footage clearly showed that Erunkulu was “extremely tired” and had continued driving despite being aware of his condition.
The judge stressed that Philip’s death was preventable, saying the tragedy would not have happened if Erunkulu had simply stopped driving and gone to sleep.

Chioma Oniniwu, the Nigerian woman who accused Singapore-based Nigerian footballer Victor Ebele of rape, has withdrawn the allegation and publicly apologised to the footballer and his family.
Oniniwu first made the allegation against Victor on X in 2025. At the time, she claimed that some members of his family, including his mother and sister, harassed her after she allegedly sought justice over the matter.
She also mentioned Victor’s brother, professional footballer Frank Ebele, accusing him of protecting his sibling. Chioma further alleged that police officers mistreated her when she went to report the case.
However, on Wednesday, August 26, Chioma was arrested, taken before a court and remanded in custody. She was later granted bail.
Amid the ongoing legal proceedings, Chioma returned to X on Saturday, August 29, where she publicly withdrew her rape allegation against Victor.
In her statement, she explained that she was going through an extremely difficult period when she made the accusation and admitted that fear and emotional distress influenced her actions.
“Victor Jr Ebele did not rape me. I was going through a difficult time and so frightened I took laws into my hands and wrongly accused him.”
She added that she regretted the impact her allegation had on Victor and his family, while also apologising to the police.
Chioma went further by issuing a lengthy written apology addressed to Victor, his brother Frank and the entire Ebele family.
In the letter, she said she was pregnant at the time and under immense emotional pressure, explaining that she was afraid of being left alone to deal with the pregnancy and other challenges.
Although she cited her emotional state at the time, Chioma acknowledged that it did not excuse her actions and accepted responsibility for making the allegation.
She expressed regret over accusing Victor of rape, saying her actions caused him pain, embarrassment, reputational damage and distress to his family.
She also apologised to the Nigerian Police Force, acknowledging that her actions had placed an unnecessary burden on the authorities.
Addressing Victor directly, she wrote:
“I am truly sorry for the pain and damage my accusations caused you.”
She also apologised to Frank for the distress the situation brought upon him and asked the entire Ebele family to accept her apology for the embarrassment, hurt and disruption she said her actions caused.
Chioma concluded by saying she could not change what had happened but could acknowledge her wrongdoing and take responsibility for her actions.
She also released a video in which she personally apologised to Victor, Frank and the Ebele family.

Former British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced his decision to step down as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Holborn and St Pancras, bringing his 11-year representation of the constituency to an end.
Starmer, who left office as prime minister in June, said he made the decision after taking time to reflect on what he wants to do next.
In a statement released on Tuesday, September 1, the former prime minister said his next chapter would focus largely on international affairs, particularly defence, security, trade and technology.
“I will now focus on other things and that will be international affairs including defence, security, trade and technology in a fast-changing world,” he said.
Starmer also said he would continue supporting efforts to tackle violence against women and girls, an issue he described as being particularly important to him.
“I will also continue, as I have done for a long time now with others, to work on combating violence against women and girls; that is an issue that matters to me hugely.”
His resignation from Parliament comes just hours before his successor, Andy Burnham, was expected to make his first statement in the House of Commons as prime minister.
Starmer had previously suggested that he planned to remain in Parliament until the next general election in 2029. His decision to leave earlier than expected means a by-election will now be held in Holborn and St Pancras to choose his successor.
It is not unusual for former British prime ministers to remain in Parliament after leaving Downing Street. Former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, for instance, continues to serve as MP for Richmond and Northallerton, while Liz Truss remained in the Commons until she lost her seat to Labour in the 2024 general election.
Theresa May also stayed on as an MP for five years after leaving the prime minister’s office.
However, Starmer’s decision puts him in the company of former prime ministers such as Boris Johnson and David Cameron, who both left Parliament relatively soon after stepping down as prime minister.]]>
A 34-year-old Lagos driver, identified as Segun Falola, has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre following his arraignment over the alleged abduction and segxwal assault of a 14-year-old girl.
Falola was brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court by the police on charges of abduction and defilement.
According to the prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, the alleged offences took place between April 3 and April 24 in the Alakuko area of Lagos.
The prosecutor told the court that Falola allegedly abducted the teenager while she was travelling from Alakuko to Agege. He was accused of luring her into a house, where she was allegedly segxwally assaulted.
Ademigbuji further stated that the defendant was eventually arrested after the victim’s phone was tracked to Oyo State, where she was allegedly being kept.
The prosecution said the alleged offences contravene Sections 137 and 268 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
However, Chief Magistrate Mrs C.M. Kushanu did not take Falola’s plea. She subsequently ordered that he be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

At least 15 people have died, while another 117 are suspected to have contracted diphtheria following an outbreak reported across several communities in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The figures were disclosed on Tuesday, September 1, by Baks Bulus, the council’s Disease Surveillance and Notification Officer (DSNO), at the local government secretariat. He warned that the number of cases could rise as health officials continue to monitor the affected communities.
“According to the data we have, 117 people from the affected communities are suspected to have the disease. Out of this number, 15 have already died,” Bulus said.
He explained that diphtheria is a bacterial infection that can spread from person to person, especially through close contact. Sharing household items such as utensils and towels can also increase the risk of transmission.
Bulus noted that children who have been vaccinated are more likely to experience milder symptoms, while unvaccinated children or those who have not completed their recommended doses face a much higher risk of severe illness and death.
He stressed that diphtheria is preventable through vaccination, adding that children who receive all three recommended doses are considered well protected against the disease.
Residents in the affected communities were urged to take precautionary measures by maintaining good personal hygiene, avoiding overcrowded places and using protective equipment when caring for anyone suspected of having the infection.
Bulus also advised anyone experiencing symptoms or who believes they may have been exposed to the disease to seek medical attention immediately rather than relying on self-medication or visiting chemist shops.
“We advise that people go to the nearest health facility because early detection is key to saving lives,” he said.
The warning comes just two days after a family in Jos reportedly lost two children, aged between 12 and 17, to the infection.

A 32-year-old Nigerian care worker has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment for burglary and bobbery offences targeting vulnerable people in Liverpool, United Kingdom.
Ediongseyene Essien, of Hornby Road, Walton, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday 28 August, 2026, where he was sentenced to three years for burglary and five years for robbery, to be served consecutively.
The Nigerian national will serve 30% of this sentence before being deported.
A restraining order has been put in place in relation to his six victims.
Essien was a carer until 9 March, when he was suspended by his employers following theft allegations.
The following day, Tuesday 10 March, Essien committed four separate burglaries in the L6 area against elderly and otherwise vulnerable persons for whom he had previously been a carer for.
Firstly, Essien stole a bank card from a vulnerable, blind man and used the card in multiple transactions nearby.
Later, he gained access to another address and entered the bedroom of an elderly resident, although nothing is believed to have been stolen.
The same evening, Essien carried out two more offences, firstly gaining entry to the home of a severely disabled occupant at around 7.30pm, with nothing believed to have been taken.
At around 9pm, he smashed the rear patio door of an elderly couple, who watched Essien enter their living room and stole a wallet containing cash.
On 16 March, Essien was arrested in connection with these offences, and was conditionally bailed pending further enquiries.
On Friday 15 May, two robbery offences took place.
At around 2.20pm, a report was received of Essien attending the home of a vulnerable man with numerous health conditions, pushing into his address and taking cash from the living room.
At 5pm the same day, Essien approached a vulnerable woman with a walking stick in the Fairfield area, and grabbed her handbag forcibly, stealing cash and bank cards.
He was arrested on Sunday 17 May and charged with both offences, before being remanded in custody.
Detective Inspector Kevin O’Rourke said: “Essien committed a series of reprehensible burglary and robbery offences against people he had previously cared for, and other vulnerable victims.
"It is frankly beyond comprehension for someone with this job to go on and target those same people, and then push and grab other elderly and unwell victims in his desperation for money.
"Like all victims of burglary and robbery, they have suffered a great deal of distress from Essien’s crimes and I am grateful for their patience and help in bringing him to justice.“
"Essien has today been given a significant prison sentence, which we hope brings a measure of comfort to those he harmed.
“We hope that this result shows the extensive work that our officers and staff carry out to put offenders before the courts.

A man has decried the level at which herds of cows move freely on the road in Abuja.
Taking to his TikTok account, he shared a video of herds of cows moving along a busy road in Wuse 2, within the Federal Capital Territory. The footage shows motorists forced to slow down as the cattle take over the lanes.
“Cars have to wait for the cows to pass. Just imagine,” the man said in frustration.
He noted that this was happening in the heart of Abuja, where there is a large amount of vehicular and human traffic, raising concerns over road safety and city planning.

A Nigerian woman has opened up about the dark experiences she encountered while desperately trying to have a child.
She said that at one of the lowest points in her life, her desperation for a baby exposed her to a troubling world of people and services targeting women struggling to conceive.
According to her, she received numerous suggestions and referrals and was asked to do unusual things, including fasting and praying what she described as strange prayers. She also said she almost became entangled in an alleged illegal adoption ring.
The woman urged people not to judge women who find themselves considering such options, explaining that desperation can make people think and act differently.
She said that while situations may appear illogical to outsiders, people who are deeply desperate for a child may see things differently because of the emotional pressure they are facing.
“Until you are inside that situation, you cannot judge,” she said.

Former Nigerian international, Obafemi Martins has disclosed that the Super Eagles need to develop another top striker to give Victor Osimhen direct competition, just as he had to fight for his place against Yakubu Aiyegbeni during his playing days.

The Intelligence Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 12 Headquarters, Bauchi State, has arrested five suspected ritualists found in possession of human organs. NigerianState Updates
The Public Relations Officer of Zone 12 Headquarters, SP Jalige Mohammad, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, August 31, 2026.
According to Mohammad, two human eyes, white and red cloth, and other materials suspected to be used for money ritual purposes were recovered from the suspects.
“The Zone 12 Intelligence Unit has recorded a major breakthrough with the arrest of five suspects on 26th August, 2026 found in possession of suspected human organs in Bauchi,” the statement read.
"During the operation, the following suspects were arrested: Abdullahi Idris ‘m’, Sani Haruna ‘m’, Auwal Umar ‘m’, Abubakar Yusuf ‘m’, and Sharu Sale ‘m’.
"Several exhibits were recovered from the suspects, which includes two human eyes, white and red cloth, and other materials suspected to be used for money ritual purposes.
"The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation. Investigation is ongoing to unravel further facts about the case, and the possible arrest of other accomplices and the source of the recovered exhibits.
"Upon completion of investigation suspects will be charge to a court of competent jurisdiction.
"The Assistant Inspector General of Police has condemned the act in strong terms and urged parents, guardians, and members of the public to remain vigilant.
"He further advised citizens to report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest Police formation immediately.

A suspected family member of terrorists, Mrs Yaganama Abdul, 45, has surrendered to troops of the Nigerian Army alongside her two children in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama reports that Abdul surrendered to troops of 112 Task Force Battalion at about 4:00 p.m. on Auguat 28, 2026 after escaping from the Burari terrorist enclave.
The two children who accompanied her were identified as Yafatai Abdul, 9, and Guja Abdul, 4.
Preliminary interrogation conducted by the troops indicated that the family escaped from the enclave following violent clashes between rival terrorist factions operating in the area.
The escapees were subsequently profiled and documented by the troops as part of ongoing security and intelligence procedures.
According to Zagazola, the development provides security agencies with an opportunity to obtain further information on activities and internal dynamics within the terrorist enclave, particularly amid reported clashes between rival factions.
The surrender also underscores the continued pressure being exerted on terrorist groups through sustained military operations and intelligence-led activities across the North-East.

Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) presidential candidate, Donald Duke, has warned opposition parties against waiting until after the 2027 presidential election to complain if they fail to unite against President Bola Tinubu.
Duke said a divided opposition could hand Tinubu victory at the polls, stressing that the opposition must resolve its differences and agree on a common candidate before the election.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, the former governor said opposition politicians should focus on preventing defeat rather than raising allegations after the election.
“Absolutely, with the chequered opposition it won’t work; Tinubu might win,” Duke said.
He warned that opposition parties had repeatedly made the mistake of remaining divided until election periods before questioning the outcome of elections.
“The reality is that things are bound to happen on that day, how to mitigate those things should be the major concern of the opposition. I don’t like people who cry wolf after it has happened,” he said.
Donald Duke said the opposition must begin preparations early and learn from previous political contests, adding that unity would be critical if they want to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress.
“We have done this several times over, we should anticipate it, and united we stand if we do it. If we don’t, then we will only have ourselves to blame because it has repeated itself,” he said.
The PRP presidential candidate also said he would be willing to withdraw from the 2027 race if opposition parties agree on a candidate capable of defeating Tinubu.
Asked if he would step down for another contender, Duke replied: “Absolutely.”
He said the priority should be finding the strongest candidate rather than protecting individual ambitions.
“Once we have commonality in objective, the next question is who is best suited for this?” he said.
While acknowledging Tinubu’s political strength, Duke criticised the President’s performance in governance.
“Give it to him, he is a formidable politician, my issue with him is governance not politics. He is weak on governance,” Duke said.
He argued that Nigeria needed a different leadership approach, claiming that the country’s economic challenges showed the consequences of poor governance.
Donald Duke said Tinubu should not be given another four years in office, warning that continued hardship and rising poverty could worsen if the country’s leadership direction does not change.

United States-based policy advisory and lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, says Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu may face criminal charges after he leaves office.
Von Batten-Montague-York made this submission in a post on its verified X handle on Tuesday.
The firm stressed that the filings it has reviewed do not explicitly establish that the US government intends to charge Tinubu.
It, however, said the responses of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, DEA, headquarters to certain enquiries raise serious questions about their future intentions and whether a law enforcement investigation or proceeding may still exist.
According to the firm, on two separate occasions, the FBI and DEA were asked to agree that, more than 30 years later, no investigation is pending and no enforcement proceeding is ongoing concerning the crimes described in the underlying cases.
The firm added that the agencies refused to confirm either assertion, noting that instead, they both stated that they are “not obligated to comment on whether a law enforcement investigation or proceeding may exist.”
It said, “Based on our reading of some of the case filings, we believe President Tinubu may face criminal charges after he leaves office, when he no longer has immunity ratione personae, in connection with the heroin-trafficking allegations.
“From the records, we know that some individuals associated with the underlying investigation are dead and that the FBI and DEA filings reference wiretaps.
“The FBI and DEA’s refusal to confirm that no investigation or enforcement proceeding exists is noteworthy.
“Their refusal doesn’t prove charges are coming against President Tinubu, but given how President Donald Trump operates, it raises the question: Why won’t the FBI and DEA simply say that no current investigation or proceeding connected to these cases or involving President Tinubu exists?”]]>
A two-storey residential building has collapsed in Anambra, but no life was lost.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development in the state, Mr Chijioke Ojukwu, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Monday.
Ojukwu said that the building, located at Inyaba-Umudim Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area, reportedly collapsed on Sunday.
The commissioner, who visited the scene for on-the-site assessment, described the incident as unfortunate.
He, however, expressed joy that no fatality had been recorded in the incident.
He said that notice had been served on occupants of a nearby three-storey building for their safety and to make way for an integrity test on the building.
According to Ojukwu, the buildings in the neighbourhood will be subjected to a mandatory integrity test, and those that fail the test will be demolished.
“The building was poorly constructed; it was built without the requisite approval of the ministry.
“It was built on a wall fence of an existing three-storey building by a developer.
“We will evacuate all the occupants of the three-store building, which shares the same compound with the collapsed building.
“We have not been able to confirm if there was any casualty,” Ojukwu said.
He said there would be statewide demolition of buildings that rest on perimeter fences of existing buildings, those that violate setback rules or those without the requisite approval.]]>

Special counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Aloy Ejimakor on Tuesday told the Nigerian government that imprisoning popular leaders would be of no benefit.
Ejimakor said such usually created problems for the government.
Posting on X, the constitutional lawyer cited the cases of freedom fighters like Obafemi Awolowo and Nelson Mandela.
In his post, Ejimakor called for the release of the IPOB leader.
He wrote: “On this #XTuesday for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, let the government be reminded that the imprisonment of a popular leader never did any good for the government.
“Instead, it brought more problems than it solved. Examples are the cases of Obafemi Awolowo and Nelson Mandela. #FreeNnamdiKanu.”
On November 20, 2025, an Abuja Federal High Court sentenced Kanu to life imprisonment.
Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court found Kanu guilty on all seven counts related to terrorism, treason and the illegal importation of broadcasting equipment.
The judge sentenced the IPOB leader to life imprisonment on counts 1, 4, 5 and 6 instead of the death penalty.
He also sentenced Kanu to 20 years’ imprisonment on count 3 and five years on count 7, with all the sentences ordered to run concurrently.]]>
Veteran Yoruba actor and immediate past President of the Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP), Adewale “Baba Elesho” Adeoye, has dismissed speculation that he is battling cancer after a visible wound on his face sparked concern among Nigerians.
Speculation about the 67-year-old actor’s health followed the circulation of videos and photographs showing the wound, with some social media users suggesting, without medical evidence, that it could be a sign of skin cancer.
The wound had attracted attention when Baba Elesho appeared at a prayer gathering organised for his then-ailing colleague, veteran actor Taiwo “Ogogo” Hassan. Concern over his health continued as more images of the actor circulated online around events following Ogogo’s death.
The timing heightened concern among some fans because Ogogo had himself been battling cancer before his death on 23 August at the age of 66.
However, Baba Elesho dismissed speculation about cancer during an interview with BBC Yoruba on Monday, describing the condition as minor and assuring Nigerians that the wound would soon heal.
“Concerning the wound on my face, it’s not cancer, and it won’t be there next week, by God’s grace. If someone has cancer, can they move around? We won’t see cancer in Jesus’ name,” he said.
“It’s a minor thing. When it happened, I didn’t go through the right channel; I went to the pharmacy. You won’t see it on my face again soon.”
The actor did not disclose what caused the wound or specify the medical condition responsible for it. His comments represent his account of his condition; no medical report confirming a diagnosis has been made public.
Meanwhile, ANTP has confirmed that its immediate past president underwent surgery following concerns about his health.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Adejonwo Oluwafemi, the association said the operation was successful and that Baba Elesho was stable and recuperating.
“We give all glory to God for the successful completion of his operation. In recent days, there have been several posts on social media concerning the health of our dear brother, Prince Adewale Adeoye Elesho, the immediate past President of the Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP), with many speculations, including skin cancer.
“We hereby confirm that the operation was successful. He is stable and recuperating well. We sincerely appreciate everyone who called, prayed, and showed concern. Your love and support are deeply valued.”
The association, however, did not disclose the nature of the operation or the medical condition that necessitated it.
It also did not cite a medical diagnosis while addressing the cancer speculation. Baba Elesho’s own comments remain the clearest public explanation of his condition.
The concern surrounding Baba Elesho emerged against the backdrop of Ogogo’s illness and death, which had already drawn significant attention within the Yoruba film industry.
Baba Elesho was among the industry figures who participated in efforts and prayers for the actor while he was ill.
Ogogo died on 23 August after battling stage-four cancer and was buried the following day in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State.
His death prompted tributes from colleagues, political figures and fans, while his family subsequently announced further funeral activities in his honour.
The proximity of both developments appeared to fuel concern after Nigerians noticed the wound on Baba Elesho’s face. There is, however, no evidence linking the two actors’ medical conditions.
Baba Elesho is one of the longstanding figures in the Yoruba theatre and film industry, with a career spanning several decades.
In a June interview with PREMIUM TIMES, the actor recalled the role the late filmmaker and theatre icon Adeyemi “Adelove” Afolayan, father of filmmakers Kunle and Gabriel Afolayan, played in advancing his acting career.
Baba Elesho said his encounter with Adelove helped expose him to opportunities that eventually established him as a professional actor. He subsequently became particularly recognised for his comic performances in Yoruba-language productions.
His television appearances in the early years of his career also helped expand his popularity, particularly as Yoruba theatre increasingly moved from stage productions to television and home video.
Over the years, Baba Elesho has appeared in numerous Yoruba productions, including Koto Aye, Aro Meta, Lalude, Iru Esin, Aye Akamara, Blacksmith: Alagbede, Ayitale, Kakatu and Sibe.
Beyond acting, he has played a leadership role in the industry through ANTP, serving as the association’s president before leaving office and becoming its immediate past president.

A rescued National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, David Ayodele, has recounted the terrifying ordeal he and other victims endured after being abducted and taken into a forest in Kogi State.
Ayodele revealed that the kidnappers threatened to hold them captive for a month before killing them. He added that the abductors warned the victims not to move without permission, threatening to shoot anyone who disobeyed their orders.
The corps member was among 15 NYSC members and six other Nigerians rescued from a kidnappers’ den in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
He said the victims were abducted while travelling from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing their NYSC orientation programme and undergoing relocation.
Recounting the incident after his rescue, Ayodele said the driver of the vehicle attempted to escape when the kidnappers emerged, but the occupants were eventually forced out at gunpoint.
“Driver tried to escape, but he said, Who’s the driver? Who’s the driver? And I held the driver, then they opened the door, and they started leading us to the bush while they were shooting, you know, rounds of bullets in the air,” he said.
According to him, the victims were subjected to flogging, kicking and verbal abuse as they were forced deeper into the forest.
“Then we made our way to the bush with flogging and kicking and shouting and stuff,” he said.
Ayodele said the kidnappers later told the victims they would remain in the forest for a month before being killed.
“We reached one kind of bushy area; they asked us to sit down, they asked us who would drink water, that we would be here for one month, so they would kill all of us,” he recounted.
He said the threat left the abductees too frightened to move without permission.
The victims were subsequently made to trek for a considerable distance through the forest before security operatives eventually reached them.
“So we moved a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot and then thank God the Nigerian Army came to meet us,” he said.
Ayodele praised the security agencies involved in the rescue operation, including the Nigerian Army, police, Department of State Services and local hunters.
He said he had completed his NYSC orientation programme in Bayelsa State before being relocated to Abuja.
“I did my orientation camp in Bayelsa camp,” he said.
Explaining how he joined the vehicle that was later intercepted, Ayodele said corps members were transported in organised vehicles to various states after the orientation programme.
So, on our way from Bayelsa, because we did relocation back to Abuja, so we were going to Abuja from Bayelsa camp. There were organised vehicles going to different states, so luckily we saw an Abuja vehicle,” he said.
The rescue brought an end to the ordeal of the 21 victims who had been held by the kidnappers in the Ofu area of Kogi State.]]>
Tension has continued to mount in Port Harcourt following the reported police shooting that claimed the life of 22-year-old University of Port Harcourt graduate Anthony Obodo.
The incident has sparked protests and raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the young man’s death, with his family calling for justice.
Anthony’s father, Princewill Obodo, alleged that the police officers involved were paid to kill his son.
Speaking with journalists, he claimed that the officers were initially deployed to provide security at the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, conference at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Elekahia, before they were later moved to the area where his son was shot.
Obodo also alleged that police authorities who visited his residence confirmed that Anthony was innocent.
He said the family had been left deeply traumatised by the death and called for a thorough investigation and justice for his son.
On Monday, youths protested at Agip Junction, Ada George, over the killing.
The protesters blocked parts of the road and reportedly set tyres on fire, disrupting traffic and movement in the area.
The situation was later brought under control following the arrival of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju.
Addressing the protesters, Adepoju condemned the incident and assured them that justice would be served.
He disclosed that the police officers allegedly involved in the shooting were in police custody.
The commissioner also said he had been in contact with Anthony’s father, adding that a meeting involving the family and the suspects would be held at the command headquarters.
The incident reportedly occurred around 5 pm last Thursday after Anthony allegedly failed to stop when he was flagged down by police officers at the junction.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that one of the officers opened fire at the vehicle, hitting Anthony.

Nearly three decades after the d3ath of legendary rapper Tupac Shakur, Duane “Keffe D” Davis has been found guilty of first-degree m¥rder in connection with the 1996 k+lling.
Davis, who is the only person ever charged in Tupac’s m¥rder, was accused of being involved in the plot that led to the fatal drive-by sh%%ting near the Las Vegas Strip in September 1996.
During closing arguments, prosecutors argued that a combination of circumstantial evidence and Davis’ own statements linked him to the crime. They portrayed him as a key figure within the South Side Compton Crips and claimed he played a central role in the events that led to Tupac being targeted.
Prosecutors also pointed to Davis’ memoir, which contains details about the night of the sh%%ting. They argued that the book amounted to an admission of his involvement, even though Davis credited a co-writer for the memoir.

Fear has continued to grip parts of Kano State as suspected bandits reportedly attacked another community for the third consecutive day, killing at least one person and abducting the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in Rogo Local Government Area.
The latest attack reportedly took place in Beli village, Rogo LGA, around 1 a.m. on Tuesday.
According to a source who spoke with DAILY POST on condition of anonymity, the gunmen stormed the community and began shooting sporadically before heading straight to the residence of the local APC chairman, Alhaji Audu Fanka Salisu Yahaya.
The attackers were said to have forced their way into the house, brought Yahaya out and whisked him away.
Yahaya is reportedly a close associate of the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Ismail Falgore, who hails from the same local government area.
A young resident, believed to be under 25 years old, was also shot during the attack and reportedly died instantly. Several other residents were said to have sustained gunshot injuries.
“They came in, firing sporadically, and went straight to the chairman’s house. They broke down the door, brought him out and took him away. On their way, they shot a young man, who was not more than 25 years old, and he died instantly,” the source said.
Residents have also taken to Facebook to raise the alarm over the incident, calling on security agencies and relevant authorities to urgently intervene and protect communities in the affected areas.
The attack comes amid a troubling wave of violence reported across parts of Kano State since Sunday.
On Sunday, suspected bandits reportedly invaded Chiromawa in Garin Malam Local Government Area, killing three people and abducting an elderly resident. The abducted man was later reported to have escaped from his captors.
The following night, Monday, the attackers allegedly targeted the neighbouring Rantan community in Bebeji Local Government Area, where two people were reportedly killed.
With the latest incident in Beli, residents are now facing their third consecutive day of reported attacks, heightening concerns over the worsening security situation in parts of the state.

Nigerian singer Crown Uzama, popularly known as Shallipopi, has revealed that he can no longer speak publicly about his ongoing dispute with his former manager, Damilola Akinwumi, also known as Dapper.
The singer explained that his legal team and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have advised him to stop making public comments about the matter while the investigation is ongoing.
The development comes weeks after Shallipopi publicly accused Dapper Music and Entertainment Limited of withholding royalties from 46 of his songs.
On August 14, Shallipopi accused Dapper of allegedly withholding his earnings and threatened to involve the EFCC in the matter.
However, in a recent statement to his fans, the singer said he has decided to allow the legal process to take its course, stressing that making further public statements could interfere with the pursuit of justice.
“My legal team and the EFCC have advised me that, for justice to be served, I need to step back and trust the legal process,” he said.
Shallipopi added that his allegations against Dapper Music and Entertainment Limited would now have to be properly investigated. He also made it clear that he would no longer use his music, social media pages or other platforms to address the dispute.
“Because of this, I cannot fight for myself using my music nor my words. I cannot sing about it, talk about it, or share it on any media platform for now,” the singer stated.
Despite stepping back from the public conversation, Shallipopi maintained that he still stands by the allegations he previously made.
He said he now understands why it would be inappropriate to publicly comment on an issue that is under active investigation or use his artistic work to address it.

Troops of 3 Battalion (Motorised) have arrested five suspects and intercepted suspected logistics allegedly intended for terrorist couriers and vendors during a targeted operation in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State.
The operation was conducted at about 5:35 p.m. on August 28, 2026 in Ladari and Gamboru Garage areas of Gamboru-Ngala.
During the operation, troops arrested Ali Dala, 35, in Ladari.
Four other suspects Babagana Amarja, 41; Garba Mohammed, 37; Abdullahi Mohammed, 53; and Mado Ali, 39 were arrested at Gamboru Garage.
The troops also confiscated several vehicles and logistics items suspected to have been intended for delivery to terrorist couriers and vendors operating within Gamboru and adjoining communities.
The vehicles included a white Volkswagen Golf 3 wagon with registration number A877 DKW, a black Golf 3 wagon with registration number ACA 787 AAC, a red Golf 3 wagon with registration number GAS 35, and a brown Vendon saloon car with registration number KBG 14 XA.
Other items recovered included eight jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and a sack containing assorted medicines concealed inside a sack of charcoal.
The suspects and recovered items are currently in the custody of 3 Battalion for further investigation and necessary action.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by troops to disrupt terrorist logistics and supply networks across the theatre.

Gunmen, suspected to be cultists, have killed two persons at separate locations in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
The incident, it was gathered, occurred on Sunday within the Amaenyi Area and S.M. Okeke Street, both in Awka.
Residents told this newspaper that although several persons were shot during the encounter, two persons have been confirmed dead as of Sunday night.
One of the persons killed during the attack was identified as Isaac Nwosu, an elderly man.
A resident, who asked not to be named for fear of attack, said the gunmen were believed to be members of Aye, a dreaded cult group.
The resident said that although Mr Nwosu was not a cultist, the attackers were said to have targeted one of his sons, named Chinedu, who is reportedly a member of Vikings, another cult group.
The police in Anambra State confirmed the development in a statement on Monday.
In the statement, the police spokesperson in the state, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the police command condemned the deadly attack.
Mr Ikenga, a superintendent of police, confirmed that two persons, including Mr Nwosu, were killed during the attack, but did not state that cultists carried it out.
“The Command has consequently intensified the ongoing manhunt for the perpetrators and is calling for the support and cooperation of members of the public to assist in bringing the suspects to justice,” he said.
The spokesperson narrated that police operatives immediately stormed Awka upon receiving information that gunmen had attacked and killed two persons in the area.
Upon arrival at the scenes, the operatives recovered the bodies of the victims along Capital City Road, Amaenyi, and S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo, Awka, respectively.
“The victims were taken to a hospital, where they were subsequently confirmed dead by medical personnel.
“While one of the victims is yet to be identified, the second victim has been identified as Isaac Nwosu, male, also known as ‘Azia,’” he stated.
“The operatives also recovered from the scene the sum of ₦7,550, one Moniepoint ATM card and a pair of slippers.”
Mr Ikenga said the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnanna Ama, condemned the deadly attack, describing the killings as “unacceptable and a direct affront to the peace and security of the state.”
Mr Ama directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for discreet and comprehensive investigation.
The commissioner also ordered operatives to intensify patrols, surveillance and intelligence gathering across Awka and adjoining areas.
The police chief called on community leaders, residents, motorists, business owners and other members of the public who may have witnessed the incidents or have information regarding the suspects, their movements or the vehicle used in the attacks to come forward and assist the police.
“Such information will be treated with utmost confidentiality,” he assured.

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has said the commission has dismissed more than 40 of its staff members for corruption and financial malpractice in the last three years.
Olukoyede made this known on Monday in Abuja during a media interactive session held to mark his three years in office.
He also disclosed that about five EFCC officials are currently facing prosecution for alleged corrupt practices.
He said, “In the past two and a half to three years of my service, I have asked them to dismiss over 40 staff on account of corruption and financial malpractice. More than five of them are being prosecuted at the moment.”
According to him, some of the affected officials are already in court, while case files involving others are being prepared for prosecution.
Olukoyede said the commission would not protect its own staff from prosecution when they are accused of corruption.
He explained that if the EFCC investigates and prosecutes people outside the commission for corruption, its own officials must also face the law when they engage in similar acts.
The EFCC chairman said the disciplinary measures were part of efforts to ensure that the commission’s officers maintained the same level of integrity expected of other Nigerians.
“You must be sure that your hands are clean. You can’t be fighting corruption when your hands are soiled with corrupt practices,” he said.
Olukoyede also announced that the commission had renamed its former Internal Affairs Department as the Department of Ethics and Integrity.
He said the move was part of efforts to strengthen internal discipline and promote integrity among EFCC personnel.
The commission has also introduced a gift policy to improve transparency and prevent conflicts of interest among its officials.
Under the new policy, EFCC staff will be required to declare gifts above a certain value, including gifts received from friends and relatives in Nigeria and abroad.
Olukoyede said the commission would also determine the types of gifts its officers could accept and require them to explain their sources of income and standard of living.
He called for stronger institutional reforms and better policies to tackle corruption, saying law enforcement alone could not end financial crimes.
According to him, the best way to fight financial crime is to put policies and institutional reforms in place to block loopholes and prevent public funds from being stolen.
Olukoyede also urged the media and civil society organisations to strengthen their watchdog roles in the fight against corruption.]]>
The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested four suspects over the alleged breaking and entering into the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, office in Jega Local Government Area, where six generators were stolen.
The command also recovered all six generators, although one had already been dismantled into scrap parts for sale.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, adding that the arrests followed separate operations involving the theft of government property and cable vandalism.
According to him, detectives were deployed after the command received a report of breaking and entering into the INEC office in Jega, leading to the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of the stolen generators.
Usman said one of the generators had been dismantled into scrap parts for sale before it was recovered by the police.
In a separate operation, police operatives on August 28, 2026, at about 7:30 a.m., arrested 24-year-old Aliyu Muhammed of Dudduke Village, Jega LGA, while he was allegedly in possession of bundles of aluminium cable wires concealed in a sack.
The police spokesperson said Muhammed confessed during interrogation to conspiring with Yusuf Dudduke, also of Dudduke Village, to vandalise and steal cables from an electric pole in the community.
He said Yusuf was subsequently arrested, bringing the total number of suspects arrested in the two separate cases to six.
The command said all the suspects remain in custody and would be charged to court upon completion of the investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, warned that vandalism of critical infrastructure, breaking and entering, and theft of government property would attract severe penalties.

A bride-to-be has reportedly called off her wedding after her fiancé allegedly spent a large portion of the money meant to support their marriage on suits for his groomsmen.
According to a social media user who shared the story, the couple received ₦5 million from the groom’s brother as financial support for their wedding. The money was reportedly given to the groom in the presence of his fiancée, with a clear agreement on how it should be spent.
The groom was allegedly instructed to use ₦3 million for the wedding, give his wife-to-be ₦1 million, and keep the remaining ₦1 million for himself.
However, things reportedly took a different turn.

Six opposition political parties have proposed a new power-sharing arrangement they are calling a “government of national competence”, which would run for a single four-year transition term if the coalition wins the 2027 general election.
The proposal was unveiled on Monday at an opposition parties’ summit organised by G100 in Abuja, bringing together representatives of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Presenting the proposal at the summit, former All Progressives Congress (APC) vice-chairman for the North-West, Salihu Lukman, said the proposed government would be built on four major principles: competence, integrity, national inclusion and fair representation.
The coalition also wants to establish an enforceable transition charter that would legally bind all participating parties to the terms of their agreement and prevent disagreements from derailing the arrangement.
Under the proposed structure, the coalition would create a central leadership committee, alongside publicity and communication and legal committees. It would also establish specialised working groups to focus on areas including democratic renewal, the proposed single-term transition, national reforms, opposition unity and the process of selecting a common presidential candidate.
However, Lukman made it clear that the initiative is not about merging or dissolving the participating political parties. He also said the coalition is not asking any presidential candidate to step down from the 2027 race at this stage.
According to him, the immediate goal is to create a solid framework for cooperation among the opposition parties before discussions over leadership positions and candidates begin.
Lukman further clarified that G100 is only facilitating the process and is not backing any particular party or candidate.
He said the ultimate aim of the initiative is to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative government ahead of the 2027 general election.]]>

AAC presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the alleged tear-gassing of protesting pensioners at the Lagos State House of Assembly, describing the incident as being “equivalent to pushing them into a gas chamber.”

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, has questioned why President Bola Tinubu is seeking to withhold records concerning his past from a foreign court, saying Nigerians deserve answers on matters of public interest.
Obi raised the issue in a statement posted on his official social media page on Monday, August 31, 2026, where he expressed concern over the reported legal move and issues surrounding the President’s educational records.
The presidential candidate said a sitting President should have the courage to confront questions about his past rather than prevent such records from being subjected to legitimate scrutiny.

Former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the ruling party of abandoning its founding ideals.
In a resignation letter dated August 31, 2026, the former Bayelsa State governor said he could no longer remain in the party.
The letter, electronically delivered and addressed to the APC Chairman of Ward 4 in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, stated that the former governor, who described himself as a founding member of the APC, made the decision after wide consultations with his family, associates, colleagues and sympathisers.
“Having consulted widely with my family, associates, colleagues and sympathisers, I wish to formally tender my resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), with immediate effect,” Sylva said in the letter.
He recalled that, as a founding member of the APC, he had helped build the party.
The former minister also took a swipe at the APC leadership, alleging that its approach to politics had eroded basic standards of decency and morality.

A Kaduna farmer, Flow Ginger, who has been lamenting over theft of produce from his farm, finally caught one of the suspects on Sunday.
According to him, the suspect, an elderly woman, had allegedly stolen corn, groundnut and yam, claiming she was driven by hunger.
He stated that the incident initially angered him but his anger melted away once he heard her sad story.
The elderly woman explained that her children live far in the city and never visit or check on her.

A 47-year-old mother beat younger, stronger participants to emerge winner in a marathon.
Ramabai Ranveer, who ran barefoot and in a sari, beat younger participants running in sports shoes and track suits.
She began running in slippers but when they kept slipping off, she removed them, held them in her hands, and ran barefoot.
The mother from Ambajogai in Maharashtra's Beed district, India, has set an inspiring example of determination and a mother's commitment to her children's education.
She participated in the 'Amrit Daud' organised as part of the Amrit Mahotsav celebrations of Kholeshwar Educational Complex of Bharatiya Shikshan Prasarak Sanstha.
She won the race and received a Rs 3,000 cash prize, which she plans to use towards her daughter's education.
A large number of local young men and women participated in the race.
Ramabai arrived at the venue wearing a simple sari and slippers. She joined the competition as an ordinary participant, and there was little indication that she would eventually emerge as the winner.
When the race began, she ran with determination. However, her slippers started slipping during the run and affected her pace. Instead of stopping, she removed them, held them in her hands and continued running barefoot until she reached the finish line.
Her victory drew an emotional response from spectators and organisers, who applauded her determination and dedication towards her daughters' education.

The Kogi state police command has rescued ten out of the fifteen corps members abducted by suspected k!dnappers along the Aloma-Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State last Wednesday, August 26.
The victims were travelling from the NYSC orientation camp in Bayelsa State when they were abducted.
The corps members were reportedly on their way to Abuja after completing the three-week orientation programme in Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA of Bayelsa when armed assailants attacked the vehicles.
The state Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarufi, who confirmed this development to newsmen, said security agents are combing the surrounding forests and intensifying efforts to rescue the remaining victims.

Troops of the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, alongside the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) Tactical Team, have killed a terrorist identified as Smally, said to be a lieutenant to a terrorist commander known as Kachalla Muhammed Filani, during a clearance operation in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (NorthWest) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, disclosed this in a statement on 30 August 2026.
According to the statement, the troops conducted the operation at about 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 29 across the general areas of Farin Tafki, Maharba Adua and Soro Daya.
At Farin Tafki, the troops encountered heavy resistance from armed terrorists, resulting in a fierce exchange of fire.
“Troops of Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA sustained offensive operation against terrorists in Katsina State, neutralising a key terrorist lieutenant and recovering machine guns, arms, ammunition and other items during ongoing clearance operations on 29 August 2026,” the statement read.
"Troops of Sector 2, while conducting clearance operations in identified terrorist enclaves within Matazu Local Government Area, encountered stiff resistance from armed terrorists.
"Troops however, responded decisively and engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to flee the area.
"During exploitation of the area, troops confirmed the neutralisation of a terrorist identified as SMALLY, a lieutenant of notorious terrorist leader Kachalla Muhammadu Filani. Troops also recovered 3 machine guns, 2 AK-47 rifles, 11 magazines, 180 rounds of ammunition and 6 motorcycles used by the terrorists for their nefarious activities.

Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has revealed that he stopped attending church 13 years ago because he no longer felt comfortable with the practice of restricting worship to a particular day.
The 66-year-old actor disclosed this during a recent interview on Curiosity Made Me Ask.
Solade said his decision to stop attending church did not mean he had abandoned his faith, insisting that his relationship with God remained central to his life.
“God created me in His image. I stopped going to church 13 years ago because I was not finding it funny any longer. Though I am a child of God,” he said.
“My life is not orchestrated towards a particular day. There is no Sunday in the Bible. Without God, I will not be alive.”
The actor argued that worship should not be confined to a specific day, saying his faith extends beyond formal church attendance.

Four suspected robbers allegedly involved in hijack, diversion and stealing of trucks in Oyo state, which are then moved to receivers in Kwara have been arrested.
The suspected robbers were arrested by operatives of Oyo Police Command following intelligence and a tip-off from members of the public that the syndicate intended to carry out another operation on Aug. 24 at about 11:00 p.m.
Their arrest was confirmed in a statement by the spokesperson of Oyo police Command DSP Olayinka Ayanlade issued on Sunday in Ibadan.
Ayanlade said following the information on their intended operation, the State Commissioner of Police immediately directed operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to mount an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
He added that based the directive, operatives of the VCRU swung into action and successfully intercepted a white-coloured SINO HOWO truck and arrested two male suspects, identified as Ojedokun, the motorboy, attached to the driver of the truck, and his accomplice, Ismail.
“The recovered truck had already had its bucket removed and was being driven towards the Ogbomoso/Ilorin axis for onward delivery and sale to a criminal receiver,” the spokesperson said.
Ayanlade said that investigation revealed that the motorboy masterminded the hijacking of the truck from his master along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The Oyo police spokesperson added that further investigation helped police operatives to track and arrest two other members of the syndicate, identified as Adekunle and Music.
He said that the suspect identified as “Music” specialised in removing vehicle trackers and other electronic devices used for the identification and location of the trucks, thereby frustrating efforts to trace or recover the stolen vehicles.
Ayanlade said that efforts were currently ongoing to recover the detached buckets of the truck and apprehend other members of the syndicate who are still at large.
He said that CP Abimbola Olugbenga, thanked members of the public for their timely and credible information which contributed to the arrest of the four.]]>
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has ordered security agencies to stop the activities of a group operating as Hisbah in parts of Jos North Local Government Area.
The governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, announced the directive in a statement on Sunday.
According to him, the decision followed reports that Hisbah members were allegedly intimidating, harassing and extorting residents, while also enforcing rules that were not authorised by law.
Governor Mutfwang warned those involved to stop immediately or face arrest and prosecution under Nigerian law.
He said Plateau State has only “one constitution, one legal system and one legitimate authority”, adding that no group has the right to take on government powers without legal backing.
“No individual or group has the authority to appoint itself the government of Plateau State. The responsibility for enforcing the law belongs to duly constituted authorities acting within the law,” Mutfwang was quoted as saying.
He also ordered security agencies to identify and investigate those involved in the reported activities, stressing that the investigation will also cover anyone accused of supporting, funding or helping the group operate.
Mutfwang stressed that the directive was not aimed at any particular religion, ethnic group or community.
“The Governor wishes to make clear that this directive is not directed at any religion, ethnic group or community. Plateau State remains home to people of diverse faiths, ethnicities and backgrounds, all of whom are entitled to equal protection under the law,” he said.

Melaye said only President Tinubu could embark on a three-week leave outside Nigeria at such a time.
Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had disclosed that the President departed Abuja for Europe to begin his three-week vacation as part of his annual leave.
Onanuga said the Nigerian President would make his first stop in London, United Kingdom.
Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria after the leave to join the hectic campaign for the January 2027 election.
However, Melaye, a former Kogi West Senator, posted on X: “Which President will leave his country for 3 weeks? Only Tinubu. Oga, dem no dey treat old age. You can only manage it. Agbalagbi.”
Melaye’s assertion comes as the ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar claimed that Tinubu is 90 years old.

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a 22-year-old man, identified simply as Daniel, over the alleged drugging and defilement of a 15-year-old girl in Ogun State.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to Iniedu, the suspect allegedly gave the teenager a malt drink laced with an unknown substance, after which she reportedly became unconscious.
He was then alleged to have had unlawful segxwal intercourse with the girl without her consent.
Following the incident, the victim was taken to the Olikoye Ransome-Kuti Memorial Hospital in Asero for medical examination, while police officers took the suspect into custody.
The statement quoted Iniedu as saying, “Police operatives arrested Daniel, 22 years, for allegedly drugging a 15-year-old girl with a malt drink, causing her to lose consciousness, and subsequently having unlawful carnal knowledge of her without consent.
“The suspect is in custody.”

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, has questioned the benefits of fuel subsidy removal in Nigeria by President Bola Tinubu.
Featuring in an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Falana raised concerns, calling on Nigerians to demand accountability from the national, state and local governments over how increased revenues were being utilised.
He questioned why such funds could not be used to address infrastructure challenges.
According to him, state governments previously repaired roads and would later seek refunds from the Federal Government.
The senior lawyer warned against returning to the “era of the fuel subsidy scam,” arguing that Nigerians deserved to know how the savings from the subsidy removal were being spent.

A former Dunamis Church pastor, Hills Emmanuel, has been found dead after he was reportedly abducted by gunmen on the Barkin Ladi-Bokkos road in Plateau State.

The incident was part of a series of attacks reported in three local government areas of the state between Friday night and Saturday, with four other people also said to have been killed.
Pastor Hils Emmanuel, who previously served as a pastor with Dunamis Church, was the founder of The Wonderful Grace of God Evangelical Ministry in Bokkos.
Reports from conflict journalist Masara Kim and other media sources said Emmanuel was travelling from Jos to Bokkos on Friday with another cleric, Gabriel Dipak of the Christ Apostolic Church.
The two pastors were reportedly among nine passengers in a commercial minivan when gunmen stopped the vehicle along the Barkin Ladi-Bokkos road.
The attackers allegedly collected money and mobile phones from the passengers before allowing them to leave.
Police were later said to have recovered the stolen belongings from the scene, while Emmanuel’s body was reportedly discovered early Saturday close to the location where the passengers were stopped.
Gabriel Dipak, however, was still reportedly being held by the abductors as of Saturday afternoon.
The kidnappers were said to have contacted his family, although it was unclear whether they had demanded a ransom.
Other attacks were also reported in Riyom, Barkin Ladi and Mangu local government areas.
In Fang village, Bachi District of Riyom, a woman was reportedly killed at about 9 p.m. on Friday.
Two more people were said to have been killed in Radura village, Fann District of Barkin Ladi, while another person was reportedly injured during an attack in Chakfem village, Mangu.
If confirmed, the separate incidents would put the reported death toll at five, including Emmanuel.

Three persons were reportedly shot dead in Awka, Anambra State on Sunday by suspected cultists.
The killings first occurred in the Amaenyi area of Awka, a densely populated neighbourhood, where two men were reportedly shot, leading to a stampede that left many people injured.
The second incident occurred on SM Okeke Street, where a popular comedian in the town, Mr Aiza Nwosu, fell victim to the assailants.
Sources said the suspected cultists had monitored Nwosu and trailed him from his house to the street before attacking him.
Aiza Nwosu was a comedian and popular town crier in Awka who carried out his duties using his Hilux truck, which was fitted with loudspeakers.
He was popularly known in Awka for driving around town and blaring loud music.
He was driving through SM Okeke Street when the men who had trailed him in a Toyota Corolla with tinted windows attacked him, shooting him dead.
He died in his car while music still blared from the sound system, leaving the car in a ditch, an indication that he was caught unawares.
Although many people have testified that Nwosu had no history of cult membership, others claimed that his son was a known member of the Vikings Confraternity.
Awka has a long-standing reputation for cult clashes, which have claimed several lives.
As of the time of filing this report, police authorities were yet to speak on the incident.

Three girls from the same family have died after a boat they were travelling in capsized at Tiga Dam in Tudunwada Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, according to information from relatives of the victims.
The deceased were identified as Murjanatu, Atikatu and Bilkisu, popularly known as Amira, all from Yalwan Rugu-Rugu community.
The chairman of Tudunwada Local Government Area and the chairperson of the Association of Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria (ALGON), Kano State chapter, Hajiya Sa’adatu Salisu Soja, confirmed the incident in a statement.
She expressed condolences to the victims’ families and the people of the community.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and the people of Yalwan Rugu-Rugu over this painful incident.”
She also prayed for Allah to forgive the deceased and grant them eternal rest.
“May Allah forgive them, have mercy on them and grant their families the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” she prayed.

Ogun State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS, has arrested a female visitor, identified as Mrs Iyabo Sowunmi, for attempting to smuggle suspected illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, MSCC, Ibara, Abeokuta.
The suspect was apprehended at about 1:33 pm on Friday during routine screening at the facility’s main entry point, after officers detected suspicious substances hidden inside a 1kg sachet of Milo beverage powder.
The substance is believed to be the psychoactive synthetic drug commonly known as “Colos”.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Odukoya Olayinka, confirmed the incident to DAILY POST on Monday.
Olayinka stated that the suspect was attempting to deliver the package to an inmate, Dare Sowunmi, who is currently on death row at the facility.
Following the interception, the officers detained Mrs Sowunmi and handed her over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA) for comprehensive investigation and prosecution.
Reacting to the incident, the State Controller of Corrections, Abioye Adesina, commended his personnel for their vigilance and adherence to security protocols.
Controller Adesina reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and the introduction of any other illegal substances, warning that anyone caught introducing contraband into the facility would face the full weight of the law.
“Our custodial facilities exist to ensure public safety, reformation, and rehabilitation. We maintain an absolute zero-tolerance policy for drug trafficking or any illegal acts designed to compromise security.
“Attempts to introduce contraband into our facilities will be met with swift legal action,” Controller Adesina stated.

Armed bandits have launched a deadly reprisal attack on farmers in Gandi community, Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing no fewer than eight people and leaving five others with gunshot wounds.
The bloody assault, which occurred on Sunday afternoon, is believed to be linked to recent security operations in the area in which scores of suspected bandits were reportedly killed by security agencies.
Residents said the attackers descended on the farming community at about 3:00 p.m., opening fire on unsuspecting farmers and throwing the area into panic as people scrambled for safety.
A local source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the assailants deliberately targeted farmers, describing the attack as an apparent revenge mission following heavy casualties suffered by the bandits during recent military and security operations.
“The bandits came around 3:00 p.m. and started shooting at people. No fewer than eight farmers were killed, while at least five others sustained gunshot injuries,” the source said.
The source added that the timing and circumstances of the assault strongly suggested that the attackers were seeking to avenge the deaths of their members during security operations conducted in the area over the past several days.
“We believe this was a retaliatory attack because some members of the group were killed by security personnel in the last few days,” he said.
The latest violence has raised fresh fears among residents of Gandi and neighbouring communities, where farmers have increasingly become vulnerable to armed groups operating across parts of Rabah and adjoining areas.
The incident is particularly significant coming on the heels of intensified security operations against bandit groups in Rabah Local Government Area, where security forces have recently mounted aggressive clearance operations against criminal elements.

A newborn baby girl abandoned shortly after birth has been rescued alive by a passerby at Ashar forest in Wuese community, Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to report, the infant, believed to have spent about three days in the forest, was discovered on Saturday, August 29, 2026 by a resident, Mrs Mbakasev Yisa, who reportedly heard signs of life from a carton.
The baby was said to have been wrapped in clothes and placed inside a carton, with maggots allegedly found around her body and a foul smell emanating from the carton.
A witness, Terkumbur Gabriel Mbaukaan, who confirmed the incident to journalists by telephone in Makurdi on Sunday, said the baby was in critical condition when she was rescued.
Yisa, who discovered the baby, said they immediately reported the discovery to the police outpost in the area, after which policemen visited the scene, documented the incident and directed that the baby be taken to a medical facility.
While Mbaukaan, who represents the area as a councillor, said he also visited the scene to assess the situation before joining efforts to secure urgent medical attention for the infant, he added that the first clinic they approached could not admit the baby because of her critical condition, prompting them to move her to Dooshima Clinic in Wuese, where she was admitted.
Similarly, the youth leader of Wuese community, Udigi Waya, confirmed the rescue, saying the baby might have remained abandoned for approximately three days before she was found.
However, the Benue State Police Command said it had yet to receive an official report on the incident.]]>
Anambra State Police Command has reacted to the shooting in Awka, the state capital, on Sunday evening, insisting that only two persons fell to the bullets of suspected cultists.
The command, in a press release by the state police command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, condemned the gunshot attacks in the strongest terms.
The command said it had intensified the manhunt for the perpetrators and called for the support and cooperation of members of the public to assist in identifying the culprits.
The statement read: “Information gathered so far reveals that three unidentified persons, travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla, with the registration number yet to be ascertained, reportedly shot two persons at separate locations within Awka.
“Upon receipt of the distress information, command operatives immediately mobilised patrol teams to the affected areas and commenced efforts to track down the assailants.”
The command said it took the victims to hospital, where medical personnel confirmed them dead.
It said while the first victim remained unidentified,while the second was identified as Aiza Nwosu, a popular personality in Awka.
“The operatives also recovered from the scenes the sum of N7,550, one Moniepoint ATM card and a pair of slippers.
“The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has strongly condemned the dastardly act and described the killings as unacceptable and a direct affront to the peace and security of the state.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has raised concerns over the recent xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks targeting Black Africans in South Africa, calling on the African Union (AU) to take urgent action.
Tinubu’s position was conveyed by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented him at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union in Luanda, Angola.
The President warned that repeated attacks against Africans and other foreign nationals in South Africa threaten the spirit of African solidarity, unity and peaceful coexistence.
While acknowledging South Africa’s sovereign right to enforce its immigration laws and recognising the country’s contributions to the continent, Tinubu stressed that xenophobic attacks should not be ignored.
Nigeria has therefore called on African leaders to place the issue on the agenda of the AU’s 40th Ordinary Session of the Assembly, scheduled for January 2027, so that the matter can receive proper consideration and appropriate action.
Tinubu also urged stronger continental efforts to tackle xenophobia and Afrophobia, stressing that dialogue, diplomacy and collective action remain essential to preserving African unity.
Speaking on the broader security situation across the continent, Nigeria also backed the adoption of the Luanda Action Plan as a practical framework for strengthening conflict prevention.

The Southeast chapter of the Renewed Hope for Greater Nigeria (RHGN) has appealed to former Anambra State governor and Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
The group made the appeal in Owerri on Saturday following a meeting centred on mobilising support for President Tinubu across the five Southeast states.
Speaking after the meeting, RHGN Southeast leader, Mazi Franklin Ngoforo, said the group intends to reach out to influential Igbo leaders, including the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo under Senator John Azuta Mbata, Chief Emeka Anyaoku and Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe.
According to Ngoforo, the leaders would be approached to help persuade Obi to reconsider his decision to contest the 2027 presidential election.
He stressed that the proposed intervention was not an attempt to diminish Obi’s political influence or presidential ambition. Rather, he said, the goal was to encourage him to consider what RHGN believes would be the long-term political interests of the Southeast.
Ngoforo argued that the region could gain more politically by building a strategic alliance with the Southwest and supporting Tinubu in 2027. He pointed out that, if re-elected, Tinubu would be constitutionally limited to just one more term.
He believes such an alliance could create political goodwill that would eventually benefit the Southeast when the presidency next rotates to another part of the South.
“Supporting the Southwest now could help position the Southeast for reciprocal support in the future,” Ngoforo said.
He also urged Obi to view stepping aside in 2027 not as the end of his presidential ambition, but as a strategic decision to wait for what he described as a more favourable political opportunity.

Nigerian businessman Obinwanne Okeke, popularly known as Invictus Obi, has reportedly been released from a United States federal prison, according to records from the US Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP).
Okeke was sentenced to 10 years in prison in February 2021 after pleading guilty to his involvement in a multimillion-dollar business email compromise scheme that defrauded companies of more than $11 million.
Under the original sentence, he was expected to remain behind bars until September 3, 2028. His reported release, therefore, has raised questions about what led to his early exit from federal custody.
The businessman was arrested in August 2019 by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) at Dulles International Airport in Virginia. He was taken into custody while attempting to leave the United States.
Court documents revealed that Okeke and his co-conspirators used phishing attacks, compromised email accounts and fake wire transfer requests to carry out the fraud.
One of the schemes targeted Unatrac, where an executive reportedly fell victim to a phishing email in April 2018. The attack gave the conspirators access to the executive’s sensitive login credentials.
With control of the compromised account, the group allegedly sent fraudulent wire-transfer instructions backed by fake invoices. The money was then redirected into bank accounts controlled by members of the syndicate.
The elaborate operation ultimately resulted in losses running into millions of dollars and became one of the major fraud cases involving a Nigerian businessman in the United States.

Three young men have reportedly been killed after gunmen attacked Chiromawa community in Garin Malam Local Government Area of Kano State. During the incident, one of the village chiefs, Alhaji Yusif Nadabo, was abducted and later found alive in a nearby village.
The attack occurred around midnight when the gunmen reportedly stormed the community and opened fire, according to a resident, Mustapha Ibrahim Imam Chiromawa, who spoke to GISTMANIA on Sunday morning.
Mustapha said the attackers shot at people in the community, killing three young men and injuring two others who were subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment.
“They came in the middle of the night, around 12am, and started shooting. They shot three people and they have died. Two others are currently in the hospital.”
According to the resident, the attackers subsequently proceeded to the residence of Alhaji Yusif Nadabo and abducted him.
However, Mustapha said the traditional ruler was later found alive in a nearby village after security personnel and local vigilantes mounted pressure on the kidnappers.
“The security personnel and vigilantes put pressure on the kidnappers, which made them release him.
“Alhamdulillah, he has been found. They are currently preparing to take him to the hospital to check his health.”
The attack has heightened concerns over the security situation in parts of Kano State, where communities have increasingly raised concerns about attacks by armed groups.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kano State Police Command had not issued an official statement confirming the attack, the reported deaths or the circumstances surrounding the release of the traditional ruler.

A student of the Osun State Polytechnic, Ademiju Ayeni, has died after he was allegedly stabbed during the convention of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Joint Campus Committee, Osun State Chapter, in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
The incident occurred on Saturday during the students’ convention held at the Osun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Press Centre in Osogbo.
The Osun State Police Command confirmed the death, saying the deceased sustained a stab wound to his chest following a disagreement during the programme.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the disagreement involving Ayeni and some individuals had initially been resolved before the convention participants dispersed.
According to Ojelabi, “There was a little disagreement during the convention, and it was settled. After they dispersed, the deceased complained of chest pain, and when it was checked, he had a stab wound on his chest.”
He added that Ayeni was subsequently rushed to a hospital in Osogbo, where he was confirmed dead.
“He was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead. The body has been deposited, and an autopsy will be conducted,” the police spokesperson disclosed.
Ojelabi said the police were aware of the incident but did not confirm whether any suspect had been arrested in connection with the student’s death.
However, the NANS South-West Coordinator, Josiah Adeyemo, said preliminary reports indicated that the incident was cult-related and that the alleged perpetrator had not been identified.
“According to reports reaching me, it was cult-related. They fought for a few minutes, and then he was stabbed,” Adeyemo said.
Adeyemo said the convention itself had proceeded peacefully before the incident occurred outside the venue.
He added: “It is quite unfortunate because the proceedings went peacefully. Hence, I don’t know what could have caused the fight outside the gate.”

Two suspected robbers were reportedly lynched by a mob on Sunday morning in Calabar, Cross River State capital.
Police authorities said they could not immediately identify the robbers but warned against jungle justice.
The incident occurred along Ekpo Abasi road, near Yellow Duke Street in Calabar South LGA.
It was gathered that the robbers may have been lynched while attempting to snatch mobile phones from residents as the area is notorious for petty and armed robbery attacks.
A statement from the police spokesman, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, said preliminary information indicated that the two men were allegedly apprehended and attacked by a mob after they were suspected of being involved in a robbery.
Akata disclosed that police operatives have visited the scene and documented the incident.
“We have commenced preliminary investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths and identify the deceased.
“The remains have been evacuated from the scene with the assistance of the relevant local government authorities for appropriate preservation.”

The Taraba Police Command has arrested two women for allegedly abducting three children in Jalingo and attempting to traffic them f to Adamawa.
It was gathered that the suspects, who are from one of the states in the South-East, were arrested at a filling station while travelling in a commercial vehicle with the three girls.
The women were reportedly taking the girls to Adamawa State when the driver of the vehicle became suspicious because the girls do not look like them.
The driver subsequently alerted members of his union, who then informed the police, leading to the arrest of the two women.
It was gathered that the suspects, both of whom are single, had rented a room in a house where the parents of the three girls reside about two weeks ago.
It was gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday morning when the women allegedly deceived the mothers of the girls by asking them to allow the children to accompany them to the market.
Instead of taking the girls to the market, the women reportedly took them to a motor park in Jalingo, where they chartered a vehicle to transport them and the children to Adamawa State.
At the police station, the women allegedly admitted that they took the girls away from the compound where they had rented a room after deceiving their mothers.
The girls, identified as Ummul Shuaibu, Ummul Baba Gasal and Amina Abubakar, are aged between five and six.
Abubakar Kwalli, the father of one of the girls, told Daily Trust that he and the fathers of the other two girls were invited to the Taraba State Police Command headquarters.
“We were surprised to see our children at the police headquarters. We were asked to identify them, which we did, but we were directed to bring our wives to further identify the children before they would be released to us,” he said.
He said when the girls saw their mothers, each of them rushed to her mother crying.

A woman has been k!lled by suspected fulani bandits in Batok 2 Village, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 2100 hours on August 28, 2026 when troops of Sector 6, Operation ENDURING PEACE, responded to reports of sporadic shooting in the community, security analyst Zagazola Makana reported.
The troops moved to the area and conducted a search of the general vicinity, where they discovered the corpse of a native identified as Mrs Helen John.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the assailants allegedly laid an ambush and concealed themselves in a maize farm close to the victim’s residence before attacking her while she was engaged in household chores.
The circumstances surrounding the attack are still being investigated.
The corpse was subsequently handed over to community leaders for further action.
Security forces have commenced efforts to track down and arrest the assailants, while patrols and surveillance have been intensified around the community and adjoining areas.]]>
A 70-year-old man, Omodele, has dragged his wife, Irede, before the Grade A Customary Court sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking the dissolution of their marriage.
Omodele accused his wife of being troublesome, violent and destructive, alleging that her conduct had caused disaffection within his family and subjected him to public humiliation.
He also accused her of alleging that he was s3xually incapable.
The plaintiff described Irede as uncouth and a nightmare to live with, claiming that nothing he did pleased her and that she was constantly angry and eager to pick fights.
Omodele further alleged that his wife had threatened him with a knife on two occasions during confrontations, adding that he had become so afraid of her violent nature that he now slept with one eye open.
He told the court that Irede fought him during his 70th birthday celebration, tore his clothes and destroyed his birthday cake.
According to him, his wife had also embarrassed him before neighbours and relatives by claiming that he was segxwally inadequate.
Omodele said he had endured enough humiliation and threats to his life and could no longer tolerate the situation.
He, therefore, prayed the court to dissolve their marriage and restrain Irede from threatening him or infringing on his privacy.
Irede consented to the dissolution of the marriage, but alleged that she had also suffered greatly at the hands of her husband.
She accused Omodele of neglecting her and their children, failing to provide adequate financial support and physically assaulting her.
According to Irede, her husband was morally bankrupt despite his advanced age.
She alleged that she caught him exchanging n*de pictures with a woman he met on Facebook.
Testifying before the court, Omodele said: “My wife and I have been married for almost 30 years, but these years have been filled with pain and regret.
"Irede conducts herself in an uncouth manner. She is rude and always ready to pick fights.
"She also shouts me down during disagreements and insists on having her way.
"Irede is violent and uncontrollable.
"She has drawn a knife on me twice during our arguments. I would have been a dead man by now but for the timely intervention of our neighbours. I reported her to the police, but she bragged that she would do something worse.
"I sleep with one eye open because I fear she could stab me to death in my sleep. My wife has become a thorn in the flesh of everyone who interacts with her.
"She has succeeded in tearing my family apart by turning one member against the other.
"Irede engaged me in a fight during my 70th birthday celebration and turned the joyous event into a nightmare. She tore my beautiful and expensive attire to shreds and ruined my cake.
"My wife never stops humiliating me. She tells anyone who cares to listen that I am s3xually inadequate, which is a lie.
"Even at 70 years of age, I remain strong and capable in bed.
"My lord, I have endured my wife’s behaviour long enough. I pray this honourable court to dissolve our marriage.”
Irede, responding, said:
“My husband has been irresponsible since the outset of our marriage. He neither carried out the necessary marital rites nor paid my bride price.
"He rented a house for me because he already had a wife. He did not make himself available when I had our first child.
"He surfaced five days after I put to bed. My husband does not give me and our children feeding allowance.
"The only time he did was between February last year and May, when he gave us N120,000 per month.
"He is a brute and regularly dealt me blows when fighting me. He beat me to a pulp in the presence of our guests during his 70th birthday celebration.
"I retaliated by tearing his new attire sewn for the occasion and ruined his birthday cake.
"My husband, at his age, is morally bankrupt. I caught him exchanging Nood pictures with a lady he met on Facebook. He later gave this lady my name, and that of our children and my mother, for diabolic means.
"My lord, I am through with the relationship with my husband. I give my consent to the dissolution of our marriage.
"I implore the court to grant me custody of our children, but make my husband responsible for their upkeep.”
The court president, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, subsequently adjourned the case for further hearing. ]]>
Singer Kelly Hansome has alleged that Flavour struggled to sell out his London show because Yoruba fans did not support him, claiming that the situation would have been different if the artist were Wizkid.
Speaking about the Nigerian music scene, Kelly Hansome questioned why Yoruba fans who support other Nigerian artistes would not turn out for an Igbo artiste.
“Flavour went to London. Flavour could not sell out the same venue where Wizkid sells out easily. Who are the people who were supposed to buy those tickets? Yoruba people. But when it’s an Igbo artist, they don’t want to buy tickets. That’s why he could not sell out the show,” he said.
The singer also defended his decision to speak openly about issues he believes are true, saying he could remain at home, make music and still earn his money.
“If you don’t want to come to my show because I said something that is the truth, then why are we playing Fela’s music now?” Kelly Hansome asked.

An associate of NDC’s 2027 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, identified as MamaPee, has said Obi would defeat any politician in Nigeria if elections were free and fair.
Speaking on the current political climate, MamaPee stated, “In a free and fair election, Peter Obi will win any politician right now in Nigeria that contests against him in a free and fair election.”

A 200-level Political Science student of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University (MOAUM), Rose Adikwu, has been hospitalised in Makurdi after she was allegedly scalded with a hot mixture during a disagreement with her cousin and co-tenant, Agbo Felicia.
Felicia, a 500-level Chemistry student, was arrested by the police following the incident, which occurred on Friday, August 28, 2026.
According to Adikwu, the disagreement between her and Felicia had lasted for some time and worsened over personal matters, eventually prompting her to ask Felicia to leave their apartment.
She alleged that after packing her belongings, Felicia went to a neighbour’s room, boiled water and mixed it with pepper, salt, onions and seasoning before returning and pouring the h%t mixture on her. Felicia allegedly locked the door and left her inside as she cried for help.
Neighbours reportedly heard her cries, intervened and rescued her, while Felicia was intercepted as she attempted to leave the area. Adikwu was subsequently taken to a private hospital, where she is receiving treatment for severe burns.
Benue State Police spokesperson, DSP Peter Aondongu, confirmed the incident and arrest, saying preliminary information showed that the two students lived together before the disagreement. He said an investigation was ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Niger State Police Command has arrested six suspected members of a notorious kidnapping syndicate allegedly operating along the Suleja and Kontagora axes, with links to Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi states.
The spokesperson for the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, who disclosed this in a statement at the weekend said the syndicate used private vehicles to lure unsuspecting victims under the guise of offering them lifts before allegedly drugging and abducting them to hideouts in neighbouring states.
According to the PPRO, istigation began after a case of criminal conspiracy and suspected kidnapping was reported at the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Minna, on May 14, 2026.
The police said the case involved a woman and her infant who were allegedly abducted by unknown gunmen in Suleja on February 7, 2026, while on her way to the market.
Two days after the abduction, the victim’s relatives reportedly received a call from an unknown number demanding N50 million ransom for her family.
Relatives allegedly raised N9.5 million, which was paid in instalments into three different bank accounts bearing different names.
Despite the payment, the victim was not released and the abductors allegedly threatened to k!ll her.
The victim eventually managed to escape, leaving behind personal belongings.
“In continuation of its sustained efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes, the Niger State Police Command has burst a notorious kidnapping syndicate operating along Suleja and Kontagora axis, with links extending to Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi States,” the statement read.
"The suspects arrested are; -Amira Yusuf 23yrs of Kano State -Abdullahi Garba 40yrs of Sokoto State -Ibrahim Mohammed 37yrs of Kano -Maijida Abubakar 26yrs of Kano -Abdullahi Sani 40yrs of Zamfara-Bello Shehu 22yrs of Sokoto State.
"Investigation revealed that the syndicate adopted a deceptive modus operandi, using private vehicles to lure unsuspecting victims under the guise of offering lift assistance, after which the victims would drugged and taken to hideouts in neighbouring states.
"On 14th May 2026, at about 2p.m, a case of criminal conspiracy and suspected kidnapping was reported at Anti-kidnapping Unit, SCID Minna and the report indicated that, on 7th February 2026, at about 7p.m, a female victim and her little baby were kidnapped by unknown hoodlums in Suleja while on her way to the market.
"Two days later, being 9th February 2026, at about 9:20p.m, a phone call was received by the relatives from a strange phone number demanding a ransom of fifty million naira to secure her release.
"The relatives sourced for funds and raised nine million, five hundred thousand naira which was paid to the abductors in installments into three different accounts bearing different names, but the victim was not released rather, they threatened to k!ll her.
"Fortunately, she managed to escape, leaving her personal belongings behind which include phone, ATM card and other items. It was later discovered that the hoodlums exploited the victim's abandoned banking details to demand ransom of ten million, five hundred thousand naira from another woman abducted from Shagari, Sokoto State, while she was travelling to visit her husband in Kontagora area of Niger State.
"On receipt of the report, detectives from the Command's Anti-Kidnapping Unit immediately commenced intensive investigation and analysis of the accounts through which ransom payments were made and one Amira Yusuf Aliyu, 23yrs, of Kano State, was arrested on 2nd July 2026.
"During interrogation, she claimed that she was deceived by one Mustapha Yusuf, the suspected leader of the syndicate who is at large.
"She added that Mustapha lured her to Sokoto under the pretext of introducing her to his family with a promise of marriage, but subsequently abducted her and used her account details to demand ransom from her parents.
"Follow-up investigation led to the arrest of one Abdullahi Garba a.k.a. Zidane, 40yrs of Sokoto State on 26th July 2026, who was arrested at the residence where Amira was kept after her abduction.
"During interrogation, Abdullahi admitted knowledge of the incident but claimed that Mustapha had also deceived him into believing that Amira was his fiancée and had used his phone to communicate with her parents without his knowledge.
"Further investigative efforts led to the arrest of one Ibrahim Mohammed Kote 37yrs and Maijida Abubakar Yusuf 26yrs; both of Kano State on the 7th and 10th of August 2026 respectively.
"Findings revealed that Ibrahim is the brother-in-law of the suspected kingpin and had stood as a surety for him when Mustapha was arrested and detained by another security agency in Kano and Maijida was also identified as a member of the syndicate and wife of Mustapha.
"Her account was reportedly used to receive several ransom payments from victims which she confessed to, adding that proceeds from the criminal activities were used, among other things, to purchase a Honda Civic vehicle, renovate her room and acquire household items.
"Additionally, in a further breakthrough to the investigation, another top member of the syndicate, one Abdullahi Sani a.k.a. Samaila Atulu, 40yrs of Zamfara State, was also arrested in Zaria on 19th August 2026 and when searched, assorted charms were recovered in his posession.
"During interrogation, he confessed to using the charms to defraud members of the public under the guise of providing spiritual assistance and subsequently arranged with Mustapha for some of his clients to be kidnapped.
"He was later identified in the Police Command Headquarters during an identification parade by a victim, who pointed him as one of the persons involved in the abduction of her and her baby in Suleja.
"Following the disappearance of the second victim from Shagari, Sokoto State; another suspect, one Bello Shehu 22yrs, of Gangam Village, Shagari LGA, Sokoto State, was also arrested on reasonable suspicion of providing information about the victim's whereabouts to Mustapha, with whom he was acquainted.
"The investigation has so far resulted in the arrest of the six suspects mentioned above, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the alleged syndicate leader, *"Mustapha Yusuf"* and two other members identified as *"Jafar"* and *"Fatima"*, who are currently at large.
"The suspects arrested are in police custody undergoing further investigation and interrogation as the Command intensifies efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects and recover other relevant evidence, after which the case will be charged to court for prosecution.
"The Police Command reassures members of the public of its commitment to dismantling criminal networks and protecting lives and property by bringing perpetrators of kidnapping and other violent crimes to justice.

Pastor David Ibiyeomie has sparked reactions with his remarks on the kind of message Christians should preach to Nigerians when trying to win souls for Christ.
Speaking about the effectiveness of preaching about hell, the pastor argued that many Nigerians are already going through severe hardship, making the threat of hell less effective in convincing them to accept Christ.
He said Nigerians need to hear messages of hope, love and transformation rather than messages that remind them of further suffering.

Gunmen who abducted members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have demanded N20m ransom each.
GISTMANIA reported that the 15 corps members travelling from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing their three-week orientation exercise were abducted along the Aloma-Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
A family member of one of the victims told Daily Trust that the abductors had contacted them to make known their ransom demand.

the family source said.The development comes after the Kogi State Police Command confirmed the abduction of some passengers, including NYSC members, along the route.

Families of some of the victims have since appealed to the Federal Government, the NYSC and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the release of those still being.
