Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said that they will teach Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State a political lesson.
Fayose said this during an interview on Channels Television.
According to him, Makinde has stolen the land of the deities, warning that the deities will retrieve their land from him.
“We will teach Makinde a political lesson. If you respect me, you will get all my values and support, but if you disrespect me, you will get the downside of Fayose. I’m not a politician that is taken for granted.
“Makinde destroyed the South West Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and took my structure. When we are in politics, we are meant to be fair.
“Declaring for presidency was his undoing. He has the right to contest for president but we don’t betray trust. Elections are not far away again. We will get there,” he said.]]>
The Kano State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has responded to recent comments made by the state governor Abba Yusuf, regarding the party’s decision not to field a candidate in the just concluded Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency bye-election.
Gistmania earlier reported that the governor had, in a statement by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, claimed that NDC’s absence from the by-election was a sign that the All Progressives Congress, APC’s would emerge victorious in 2027.
Reacting, the NDC Chairman in Kano State, Hussaini Isa Mai Riga, said the NDC is not distracted by political statements aimed at scoring cheap points.
According to him, the party’s energy is currently directed at building a solid, people-centred structure across all 44 local government areas of Kano State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“NDC is a party of strategy and discipline. Skipping one bye-election does not mean we are weak. It means we are focused on the bigger picture. Our priority is to consolidate our grassroots base, unite our members, and present credible candidates that Kano people can trust in 2027,” he said in a statement by his media aide, Adam Said Adam.
The Chairman emphasised that the party has learned from the political history of Kano and Nigeria at large, and will not waste resources on contests that do not align with its long-term vision. Instead, NDC will invest in mobilisation, political education, and policy development that addresses unemployment, insecurity, and economic hardship facing ordinary citizens.
Mai Riga expressed confidence that with the support of Kano residents and the strength of the Kwankwasiyya movement within the party, NDC will emerge victorious in the next governorship election.
He urged NDC members across Kano to remain calm, avoid provocation, and continue lawful political engagement. He also called on security agencies to remain neutral and ensure a level playing field as political activities intensify.

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji has expressed gratitude to the people of the state for their overwhelming support, which culminated in his re-election in the June 20 governorship poll.
Governor Oyebanji said he remains deeply appreciative of Ekitikete for standing united in giving him a renewed four-year mandate and for ensuring that the election was conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner across all the 16 local government areas of the state.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, in Ado-Ekiti on Monday, the governor said he is indebted to the people not only for the historic re-election but also for setting what he described as a benchmark for peaceful elections in the country.

Manchester City and Chelsea have reached a €20 million agreement for the termination of Enzo Maresca’s contract.

A tragic incident of mob violence has sparked widespread condemnation in Kaduna State after a woman was killed following allegations of child theft that have yet to be substantiated.
The victim, identified as Malama Ummulkhairi, reportedly lost her life in Maraban Jos after an angry crowd accused her of attempting to abduct children.
The deceased, an Islamic teacher and mother of more than five children, had travelled from the New Maraban Jos area to attend an Islamic lecture said to have been organised at a school in the old Maraban Jos community.
According to accounts from witnesses and family members, she became separated from those she travelled with and was trying to find her way when she approached some children to ask for directions.
Moments later, rumours allegedly began circulating that she was attempting to steal children. Relatives and eyewitnesses have maintained that the accusation was unfounded.
As tensions mounted, residents reportedly escorted the woman to a nearby police station, where she was placed under protective custody while authorities sought to investigate the claims.
However, the situation took a deadly turn when a large crowd allegedly descended on the station. In a statement issued on Sunday, the Kaduna State Police Command confirmed that the mob overpowered officers on duty, forcefully removed the woman from custody and attacked her.
Police said the victim was subsequently killed and her body set ablaze by the mob.

The Oyo State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspected armed robbers, alongside the recovery of firearms and other incriminating items linked to their alleged operations.
The disclosure was made in a statement signed by the Command's Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, and made available to DAILY POST on Sunday.
According to Ayanlade, the suspects, identified as Ibrahim Mohammed Dabban and Ndako Sulaimon, both residing in the Sabo area of Sagamu, Ogun State, were arrested on June 15, 2026, along the Oyo/Ogbomoso road axis.
He explained that operatives attached to the Command's Safer Highway Patrol team, while carrying out routine surveillance along the route, intercepted a gold-coloured Nissan Maxima vehicle bearing registration number FKJ 666 KA at about 10:48am.

Operatives attached to the Delta State Police Command's Anti-Cultism Unit (CACU) have apprehended two suspected cult members during a late-night raid in Ibusa Community, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state.
DAILY POST reports that the suspects were arrested on June 19, 2026, at about 11:45pm, following a tip-off that led police to a suspected criminal hideout in the area.
During the operation, security operatives recovered an English-made pump-action gun loaded with five live cartridges, a cutlass, charms, and substances believed to be illicit drugs from the suspects.
Confirming the development in a statement issued on Sunday, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the raid was part of ongoing efforts by the Command to stamp out cult-related violence and criminal activities across the state.

Civil servants recently employed into the Oyo State public service have kicked against the newly introduced contributory pension scheme, warning that the policy would worsen the economic struggles already confronting workers in the state.
The affected workers, who were employed into the civil service in January this year, raised their objections in a petition titled "Save Our Souls," addressed to Governor Seyi Makinde and made available to DAILY POST in Ibadan on Sunday.
Their grievance follows the state government's announcement last week introducing the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) for newly recruited civil servants. Rejecting the policy, the workers appealed to the governor to allow them to remain under the previous pension arrangement that was in place before the new scheme took effect.
In the petition, the workers stated: "We have carefully studied the Circular Letter referenced OYPB/G/24/VOL.IV/11 concerning the re-commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) for Oyo State Civil Servants. While we acknowledge the noble intention behind the policy and the government's commitment to ensuring a sustainable pension system, we respectfully seek your compassionate consideration regarding its application to officers employed into the Oyo State Civil Service in January 2025.

Operatives of the Force Intelligence Department have uncovered an alleged baby trafficking syndicate operating within a hospital in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, leading to the arrest of several suspects and the launch of a major investigation.
According to police authorities, the operation was carried out on June 12 following intelligence reports suggesting criminal activities were taking place at the medical facility. The investigation gained momentum after a number of women raised concerns over claims by the hospital that their newborn babies had died shortly after delivery.
Police said undercover officers were deployed to the facility and allegedly uncovered a scheme in which live babies delivered by mothers were secretly removed and trafficked, while the women were falsely informed that their infants had died during childbirth.
During a raid on the hospital, officers reportedly discovered an embalmed infant stored inside a bucket in the office of the facility’s medical director, 66-year-old Elizabeth Obot. Investigators alleged that the preserved body was shown to mothers as proof that their babies had died.
Further findings indicated that the deceased infant was allegedly rented out to other trafficking networks and women seeking to deceive relatives by claiming they had suffered a stillbirth.
Speaking during interrogation, Obot admitted that she had once handed over a dead infant to a woman in exchange for N10,000. She also disclosed that babies could be sold for as much as N3 million, with a large portion of the proceeds allegedly going to the biological mothers while the remainder covered logistics.
The suspect explained that the preserved infant was the result of a miscarriage and claimed the child’s father had consented to its disposal. However, she admitted that the body was never buried.
Obot further stated that some women facing pressure from partners to have children used the deceased infant to stage fake pregnancy losses. She maintained her innocence, insisting that she only assisted women desperate to have children and that mothers who sold their babies did so willingly.
One of the other suspects, Uffiong Ubong Anthony, told investigators that she had worked as an auxiliary nurse for 21 years despite lacking professional nursing qualifications. She said she learnt the role by observing trained nurses at a private hospital.
The police have appealed to anyone who experienced a stillbirth at the facility to come forward and assist with ongoing investigations. Authorities also advised expectant mothers to ensure a trusted relative is present during delivery and urged hospitals to maintain adequate security measures in maternity wards to prevent the theft of newborns.
Investigators said preliminary findings suggest that poorly monitored delivery rooms create opportunities for criminal elements within healthcare facilities to carry out baby theft and trafficking activities.

Unidentified gunmen stormed the home of a former Ogun State Television (OGTV) staff member, Mrs Kitan Oyesiku, fondly known as "Aunty Kitan," and killed her in the early hours of Sunday, in an attack that has left the media community in shock.
DAILY POST gathered that the attackers invaded her residence in the Kobape area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, with both Oyesiku and her security guard found dead at the scene.
The veteran broadcaster, who had retired from OGTV after years of service, was a well-recognised figure in Ogun's media landscape. Investigators found the guard's body within the security post, while Oyesiku's lifeless body was discovered inside her apartment.
Confirming the killing, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed that detectives were dispatched to the scene as soon as the alarm was raised, where they found clear indications of forced entry and a struggle within the premises. He added that the victim's car had also been stolen by the perpetrators.
Babaseyi appealed for calm among residents, assuring that a full-scale investigation had been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
According to him, the incident was first reported at the Owode Egba Divisional Police Headquarters on Sunday, June 21, 2026, after a resident of Iyana Agodo Village raised the alarm over suspicious movements around the late broadcaster's residence.

A Fulani socio-cultural body operating under the banner of Concerned Fulani People of Nigeria has appealed to President Bola Tinubu and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to caution Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, over what it described as inflammatory comments targeted at Fulani communities in the state.
The appeal was contained in a statement issued by the group's Convener, Ibrahim Barkindo Chubado, on Sunday, following reports that Igboho had given Fulani leaders in Oyo State a two-hour ultimatum over the alleged kidnapping of a woman and her children.
Igboho was reported to have threatened to personally confront those he suspected of involvement in the abduction should the victims not be released within the given timeframe, with a further pledge to storm a forest reserve allegedly serving as a hideout for the suspected kidnappers.
Responding to the development, Chubado cautioned that singling out Fulani communities over crimes attributed to certain individuals could worsen ethnic relations and jeopardize ongoing peace and security efforts in the region.
The group stressed that Fulani people, as a community, stand firmly against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and all forms of criminality, insisting that the actions of a few should not be used to indict an entire ethnic group.

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of eight individuals suspected of cult-related activities and political thuggery following coordinated raids carried out in Ilesa town and the state capital, Osogbo.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, said the operations were carried out by the Command's Anti-Cultism Unit acting on credible intelligence, as part of broader efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
According to the statement, the first breakthrough came on June 17, 2026, around 6pm, after police received reports that a notorious cult member was terrorising residents of the Iloro area in Ilesa. Acting swiftly, the Anti-Cultism Unit's patrol team moved in and arrested 30-year-old Abiola Osobu Michael, popularly known as "Small."
During questioning, the suspect reportedly admitted to being a member of the Eiye confraternity. Items recovered from him included an axe, a live cartridge, and several caps bearing the cult group's insignia, including one in blue.
The statement further revealed that on June 19, 2026, at about 1am, operatives acted on another tip about cult members harassing residents in the Sasa area of Osogbo. The raid led to the arrest of seven more suspects: Afolabi Samson, also known as Elesi (29); Ojute Imoleayo (28); Jimoh Olayinka (48); Oluwasesin Niyi (40); Robin Akeem (19); Robin Selim (19); and a woman, Nurudeen Kafayat (39).

A man identified as Jacob has approached a Grade A Customary Court, Court 2, sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking the dissolution of his marriage to his wife, Mercy, citing cruelty, false accusations of using charms against her, and threats to his safety as grounds for the divorce.
Addressing the court, Jacob accused his wife of showing no compassion toward him despite her financial comfort and full awareness of the hardship he was going through.
He claimed there were numerous instances where he went without food at night while his wife, who had sufficient resources to cater for the family, deliberately withheld assistance.
According to the plaintiff, instead of offering him emotional support during his trying period, Mercy subjected him to constant intimidation and threats that left him in distress.
He further told the court that he was deeply hurt when his wife branded him diabolical, alleging that he employed charms to seduce her and drain her wealth.
Jacob explained that her behaviour eventually made the matrimonial home unbearable, compelling him to relocate elsewhere, and accused her of subsequently barring him from seeing their children.
Stating his desire to move forward with his life, Jacob urged the court to grant the dissolution of the union. In response, Mercy indicated her consent to the divorce proceedings.
Narrating his account before the court, Jacob said: "I got married to my wife in 2012 after paying a bride price of N2,500. For a long time, our union was peaceful and joyful.

The convoy was racing to the community after gunmen stormed the village in the dead of night, opening fire indiscriminately and prompting terrified residents to call for military backup, locals said.
According to villagers, the assailants struck Bargaja between 12:30am and 3:00am on Saturday, June 21, unleashing gunshots that sent residents fleeing and triggering urgent appeals to nearby troops stationed in Isa town.
A villager, who asked not to be named, claimed the bandits had secretly buried an explosive device along the Isa-Bargaja highway hours before soldiers arrived to repel the attack.
"The soldiers were rushing to save us when their vehicle ran over the bomb. Several of them were caught in the blast. One soldier managed to stagger into our community afterward, badly wounded in the leg, begging for assistance," the resident narrated.
He disclosed that the explosion occurred along the stretch of road connecting the two communities, warning that bandits in the area are increasingly resorting to explosives in their attacks. "We saw two soldiers' bodies ourselves, though we can't say for certain if others died too. The government needs to act fast before this gets worse," he appealed.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ikeje Asogwa, as the winner of the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election after securing a landslide victory at the polls.

A survivor of a deadly assault by suspected Fulani militia on Rantiya community in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State has recounted how he narrowly escaped death by feigning to be a corpse during the attack.
Isaac Dung, a 37-year-old father of three, shared his harrowing experience in a telephone interview, detailing the events of Thursday night when armed assailants stormed the Rangarasa village within Rantiya, leaving two vigilante members dead and approximately 15 others injured.
According to Dung, he was returning home from work when he first spotted the attackers approaching the community on motorcycles in overwhelming numbers, with multiple riders packed onto each bike. Sensing imminent danger given the visible weapons carried by the assailants, he immediately understood the gravity of the unfolding situation.
He described the chaos that followed as the attackers opened fire indiscriminately, shouting religious chants while residents scattered in different directions, desperately seeking shelter among rocks and bushes to escape the gunfire.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been returned for a second term as governor of Ekiti State after recording a resounding victory in Saturday’s governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially announced the result on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti, declaring Oyebanji winner after he dominated the poll across all 16 local government areas of the state.
According to the final figures released by the electoral body, Oyebanji secured 319,224 votes, far ahead of his closest challenger, Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 40,543 votes. Oluwadare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished in third place with 12,872 votes.
The APC candidate achieved a clean sweep of the election, winning in every local government area and maintaining strong support in both urban centres and rural communities.
Announcing the outcome, INEC’s State Collation Officer confirmed that Oyebanji satisfied all constitutional requirements and was therefore duly elected governor of Ekiti State.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has taken into custody two elderly men, aged 84 and 75, over allegations of supplying illicit substances to teenage secondary school students in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
Identified as Godfrey Orji, 84, and Godwin Obulunbiya Obiora, 75, both men now face scrutiny following separate arrests linked to drug trafficking activities targeting young students within the area.
According to NDLEA operatives, Obiora was apprehended on Friday, June 19, 2026, after credible intelligence pointed to his alleged involvement in selling illicit substances to students and other residents from his patent medicine store located on Club Road, Umuahia. A search of the premises reportedly led to the recovery of 4.64 kilograms of opioid substances, including tramadol and diazepam.
In a separate but related case, Orji, a pensioner, was caught by security personnel at Saint Silas Secondary School in Old Umuahia, where he allegedly supplied illicit drugs to two teenage students. Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Igboho has issued a stern two-hour ultimatum to Fulani leaders in Igboho town, Oyo State, demanding the release of a pregnant woman abducted alongside her sibling by suspected herdsmen.
The kidnapping, which occurred in the dead of night within the Igboho area, saw armed gunmen initially demand a ransom of ₦300 million, an amount later slashed to ₦150 million.
Rather than direct the victims' family to source the funds, Igboho insisted that Fulani leaders within the community should personally raise and settle the ransom, declaring that those affected have no means of paying such a sum.
Speaking in Yoruba before community leaders, the activist did not mince words: "You can't be kidnapping in my father's land and expect me to keep quiet, I'm an original indigene of Igboho land."
He further alleged that those who attempted to deliver an earlier ransom payment, alongside the pregnant woman herself, had been killed by the kidnappers, questioning the boldness of the perpetrators operating within his ancestral territory.

According to Igboho, tracking efforts traced the victims' movement from an "Alhaji's" residence to "Bani's" compound, and finally to the Baale's compound, where they are currently believed to be held.
He reiterated that the financial burden of the ransom rests squarely on the Fulani community, warning of dire consequences should the victims come to further harm.
"We don't have any ransom to pay, you Fulanis should raise that ransom among yourselves and pay because we don't have such money to pay... If they are killed, we will have a problem," he warned.

The Oyo State Police Command has announced the arrest of a suspected gang member linked to the abduction of a 20-year-old farmer from Igboti village in the Oorelope Local Government Area.
The suspect, named as 23-year-old Yahaya Auta, was picked up following a swift police response after the abduction was reported at the Okaka Police Division on June 19.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed that the victim was forcefully taken around 1 a.m. by roughly eight armed assailants who invaded Igboti village via the Okutalogun route. The attackers, wielding firearms and machetes, reportedly bundled the farmer away to an undisclosed location.
The hoodlums were also said to have made off with ₦1.24 million in cash alongside 50,000 CFA francs during the raid.
Reacting to the development, Commissioner of Police Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga directed an extensive search operation involving police personnel, Amotekun corps members and community hunters. The combined security team scoured nearby forests and surrounding settlements in efforts to locate the victim and apprehend those responsible.

In a video that has since gone viral on X, formerly known as Twitter, the cleric recalled that the church member had volunteered to help him secure a Dubai visa, framing it as an opportunity for a brief, relaxing getaway lasting just a few days.
He explained that he was instructed to hand over his passport in preparation for the supposed trip. Filled with excitement at the prospect, he shared the news with family members and even travelled ahead to Lagos to be ready for his scheduled flight.
Narrating the experience in Yoruba, the pastor recalled being told that all he needed to do was submit his passport, after which arrangements would be made for him to enjoy a short stay in Dubai.
However, on the agreed travel date, he arrived at the airport only to find that the church member who had promised to assist him was nowhere in sight. His repeated attempts to reach the man by phone proved futile, as the calls went unanswered before his number eventually became completely unreachable.
The cleric expressed deep frustration over never recovering his passport, noting that he was instead forced to endure the stressful and costly process of obtaining a replacement.
He insisted that the disappearance of the document was no accident, stating firmly that the man had intentionally held onto it, leaving him stranded without a trip and betrayed by someone from within his own congregation.

The Federal Government has restated its commitment to protecting refugees and asylum seekers, pledging to keep Nigeria’s borders accessible to those fleeing conflict and persecution while adhering to international humanitarian obligations.
Speaking ahead of the 2026 observance of World Refugee Day, Tijani Ahmed, Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, said Nigeria remains committed to the principle of non-refoulement, which prohibits the forced return of refugees to countries where their lives or freedom may be at risk.
Ahmed disclosed that thousands of refugees from Cameroon and Niger Republic have been registered in several states, including Benue State, Borno State and Cross River State.
He also revealed that approximately 3,000 Nigerian refugees voluntarily returned home from Cameroon in January 2026, emphasizing that repatriation efforts involving Nigerians abroad would continue to be based strictly on consent rather than coercion.
Also speaking on the issue, Sebastian Sanni, Executive Director of the Justice Development and Peace Commission, called for stronger partnerships among stakeholders to improve support for displaced persons.

An Abuja High Court has sentenced 27-year-old Immaculate Chukwudi, a mother of three, to ten years in prison after finding her responsible for the fatal stabbing of her neighbour, Salamatu Yunusa.
Chukwudi had been arraigned by the FCT Commissioner of Police on a charge of culpable homicide in connection with the incident. Delivering judgment, Justice Idris Mohammed ruled that the convict was indeed responsible for causing Yunusa's death.
In passing sentence, the judge relied on Section 225 of the Penal Code, which provides that anyone who causes death through an act not classified as culpable homicide, but carried out with intent to cause hurt or grievous hurt, is liable to imprisonment for up to fourteen years, a fine, or both.
Prior to sentencing, defence counsel O. Oluwakemi urged the court to show leniency, describing Chukwudi as a first-time offender with strong potential for rehabilitation. Oluwakemi further appealed to the court's sense of compassion, noting that the convict's three young children depend entirely on her for their care and upbringing.

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has handed down a death sentence by hanging to 37-year-old Zakaria Garba over his role in the devastating 2014 bomb attack at Nyanya Motor Park, an explosion that claimed the lives of no fewer than 70 people and left many others nursing injuries.
Delivering judgment in the recently concluded Abuja mass trial of suspected terrorists, Justice James Omotosho also sentenced Garba to life imprisonment on a separate count, after the defendant pleaded guilty to all five charges brought against him by the Federal Government.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the verdict was delivered in a case filed under charge number FHC/KNJ/CR/985/2026 by the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
In total, Garba received a 35-year prison term each on the first two counts, life imprisonment on the third count, and the death penalty on both the fourth and fifth counts. Pronouncing sentence, Justice Omotosho told the convict, "May God have mercy on you."
Court documents revealed that Garba, a resident of Jambutu Park in the Jimeta area of Adamawa State, conspired with others still at large to plan and execute the bombing of Nyanya Motor Park using explosive devices, an attack that resulted in more than 70 deaths and numerous injuries. The conspiracy charge falls under Section 17 of the Terrorism Prevention (Amendment) Act 2013.
The fourth count, which also carried the death sentence, accused Garba, who reportedly described himself in his confession as a tea and bread seller, of knowingly detonating explosives at the park with clear intent to kill and cause serious harm to members of the public. This charge was brought under Section 1(3) of the same Act.
The fifth count similarly held him responsible for participating in an act of terrorism that led to over 70 deaths through the detonation of explosives, also punishable under Section 1(3) of the Terrorism Prevention (Amendment) Act 2013.
Beyond Garba's case, Justice Omotosho handed down sentences to several other defendants who pleaded guilty to separate terrorism-related charges during the same trial session. Ali Mohammed received 25 years on one count and 15 years on another, under charge number FHC/KNJ/CR/1020/2026. Isa Saleh was sentenced to 20 years on a single count under charge FHC/KNJ/CR/973/2026, while Tujan Mohammed received a similar 20-year term under charge FHC/KNJ/CR/954/2026. Salisu Bala was convicted and sentenced to 20 years on one count but was discharged and acquitted on two other counts in charge FHC/KNJ/CR/963/2026.

In the heart of Jos Metropolis, at the busy Old Airport Junction, stands an unremarkable one-storey building known as Nana Plaza. By day, it houses shops on the ground floor and offices, including a law firm, upstairs — the picture of an ordinary commercial property.
Behind the plaza lies an open space, roughly the size of a single plot, where food canteens and beer parlours operate, offering quick meals and drinks to passersby. But once darkness falls, the area transforms entirely.
As evening sets in, vendors selling roasted fish, chicken, dog, and pork meat take over the front of the building, while a group of young men known locally as "Michika Boys" begin trading cigarettes, alcohol, and illicit drugs under cover of night.
These activities, though questionable, are only the surface. Investigations by DAILY POST uncovered a far more troubling reality unfolding behind Nana Plaza after dark: an active commercial sex trade involving teenage girls, some as young as 14, who gather in the open space from around 8pm until the early hours of the following day to solicit paying customers.
Speaking to several of the girls undercover, our correspondent found a pattern of circumstances pushing them into the trade — among them parental neglect, hunger, drug dependence, displacement caused by communal violence, poverty, joblessness, peer influence, and in some cases, susceptibility to material temptation.
One of the girls, identified as Rachael, a 16-year-old already a mother, explained that she turned to the trade out of desperation to support her child after the man responsible for her pregnancy denied responsibility and her own parents disowned her. She recounted becoming pregnant at 14 while still in junior secondary school, only to discover the man was already married. Forced out of her home and out of school, she said a neighbour brought her to Nana Plaza to assist with a fish-roasting business, where she later learned that the same woman supplemented her income through transactional relationships with men who visited nearby hotels. It was through this exposure, she said, that she was eventually drawn into the trade herself, describing it as something she does without pride, but sees no alternative to, given her responsibility to her child.
Another girl, 15-year-old Linda, said her path to Jos began with violence back home in Riyom Local Government Area, where an attack by armed herders killed several residents, including her elder brother who had been her guardian after their parents' deaths. Forced into an IDP camp afterward, she described facing severe hardship, including alleged exploitation by camp officials who withheld food unless girls complied with their demands. She said she eventually fled the camp with a friend, first ending up in Kugiya, Bukuru, where they began engaging in transactional sex before a police raid scattered the group, eventually leading her to Nana Plaza, where she says she continues out of necessity to support her younger siblings.
Afiniki, an 18-year-old mother of two, attributed her situation to negative peer influence following her father's death. She said she dropped out of school and travelled to Abuja with friends who were involved in the trade, eventually becoming pregnant and returning home to her mother, who took her and her child in despite her disapproval. She later returned to Abuja, became pregnant a second time, and came back to Jos. She disclosed that her earnings vary significantly by night, sometimes reaching N5,000 to N10,000, but on slower nights dropping as low as N200 to N500, just enough, she said, to afford a meal the next day. She expressed deep regret over her circumstances but said she felt trapped with no viable alternative.

A 57-year-old farmer identified as Akan Patrick has been taken into custody by the Cross River State Police Command in connection with the alleged killing of two individuals in the Odukpani Local Government Area.
State Police Public Relations Officer ASP Sunday Eitokpah confirmed the development to journalists, explaining that the case first came to light on May 25 when the suspect's wife, Regina Akan Patrick, filed a missing person complaint at the Odukpani Divisional Headquarters. She told police that her husband had not returned home from his farmland in the Okong community, noting that he usually spent about a week there before coming back. After repeated failed attempts to reach him, she decided to involve the authorities.
Following intelligence gathering and further investigative work, police eventually traced and arrested the husband.
Under interrogation, Patrick reportedly admitted to killing the two victims but insisted he had acted in self-defence. According to his account, two young men from the community had confronted him on his farm back in November 2025, demanding 14 bags of cannabis while allegedly brandishing firearms. He said he reported the threat to community leaders, who responded by detaining and restraining the two youths for questioning. However, after finding no proof that the men were armed, the community leadership dismissed the allegations and directed that they be released.
Patrick claimed that as he walked away from the meeting, the two men turned on him and attacked him. He alleged that in the ensuing struggle, both men ended up being pushed into a nearby river, where they subsequently drowned. He admitted to withholding the incident from law enforcement at the time, citing fear of exposing his own involvement in illegal cannabis cultivation.

Reports circulating on social media on Thursday alleged that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control arrested the entertainer over the purported importation of bread and brownies allegedly infused with cocaine from Mexico.
However, in a statement issued on Saturday through his legal representatives, Versed Attorneys, Officer Woos strongly refuted the allegations, insisting that the reports were fabricated and aimed at tarnishing his image, business interests, and professional reputation.
The legal team described the publication as defamatory and warned that those responsible for creating and spreading the claims could face legal consequences if corrective steps are not taken immediately.
According to the statement, the content creator is demanding an immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the reports from all platforms and accounts that published or circulated them. He also requested a public apology to be issued on the same platforms within 48 hours.
As of the time of filing this report, neither NAFDAC nor the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency had released an official statement confirming or denying the alleged arrest.

The Anti-Robbery Squad attached to the Ogun State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, has cracked down on a vehicle theft and armed robbery gang, arresting three suspects operating around Abeokuta and surrounding communities.
Those taken into custody include 38-year-old Ismaila Israel Sokunbi, 37-year-old Kayode Adeyemi who is believed to be the gang's leader, and 55-year-old Kola Taiwo. Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, in a statement issued to journalists on Saturday, confirmed that a stolen Toyota Corolla along with multiple incriminating items were recovered during the operation.
Babaseyi explained that the breakthrough began with a distress call from Obantoko Division, where armed men attempted to seize a resident's vehicle just as he was opening his compound gate. The victim's screams drew neighbours to the scene, and as the suspects tried to make their getaway, they lost control of the vehicle and rammed it into a fence before fleeing on foot.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and escaped using a waiting getaway car as officers closed in. In the chaos, one of them dropped an Infinix phone and a Wema Bank ATM card, both of which were retrieved as evidence.
Detectives used the recovered items to trace phone records, which ultimately led them to Sokunbi and connected him to Adeyemi, identified as the syndicate's kingpin based in Ibadan, Oyo State. Both men were tracked down and arrested in the Oke-Jigbo and Isale Abese neighbourhoods of Abeokuta.
Under questioning, the duo confessed to being part of a wider criminal network responsible for a string of vehicle thefts across Abeokuta and nearby areas, revealing that their method involved manipulating ignition wiring to steal cars.
In a related operation, police also apprehended Kola Taiwo and recovered another stolen Toyota Corolla. Investigations showed he had been targeting parked vehicles in the Osiele area using master keys to break in.
All three suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are completed. Authorities say efforts are underway to recover more stolen vehicles and track down other members of the syndicate still at large.

A former driver identified as Owolabi Moses has been arrested for allegedly plotting to kidnap and murder his ex-employer, Mr. Chidozie Joseph, in a scheme aimed at seizing control of his assets.

The statement sparked swift backlash from Rome, with Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani describing the remarks as serious and offensive to both Prime Minister Meloni and Italy as a whole. Tajani also cancelled a planned trip to the United States scheduled for the weekend in response to the dispute.
In a video message, Prime Minister Meloni firmly dismissed Trump’s account, saying she felt compelled to respond publicly.

This is an incredible statement in itself, as Yohanna was playing non-professional football in 2025.
The 18-year-old began his career at the Ikon Allah Football Academy in Nigeria, before being recruited by Swedish club AIK last year.
It was in Sweden that Yohanna’s career took flight.
The teenager made his breakthrough in the first team, scoring twice and providing three assists in 13 appearances.
In June 2026, Yohanna signed for Brighton & Hove Albion for €28 million, breaking the Swedish transfer fee record.
“His trajectory within a year has been phenomenal. I think it is a pointer to how quickly things can change for people. I also think it’s a reflection of time and chance,” Wale Agbede, a renowned sports broadcaster, told Gistmania.
“I don’t necessarily think his pathway is the standard route, through which amateur players from places like Africa, the hinterlands of Asia and South America will land in the Premier League.
“But it is a lot of work done by agents, who deserve some credit.

Despite the incredible talent pool in Nigeria, there is no steady stream of young academy products getting these moves abroad.
There used to be a time when Pepsi, for instance, funded one of the best academies in Nigeria, and they consistently produced top players for even the national teams.
Names like John Obi Mikel, Osaze Odemwingie, Sunday Mba and Elderson Echiejile quickly come to mind.
“With football academies in Nigeria, it is just the sheer corruption and commercialization of everything in the country,” Agbede explains.
“There are so many football academies in Nigeria, which are only academies on paper. They don’t have where they train. They are just academies that own the sporting rights to players.
“It’s a cesspool of corruption.
“You’ll hear that this academy has loaned a player to an NPFL team. If you go and investigate, you will find out it is just somebody somewhere in Agege or the depths of Ibadan, who has registered an academy on paper but is not actually teaching the kids anything.
“Especially with the FIFA ruling that academies that own the economic rights for players who move to Europe or abroad for big fees will get a percentage, Nigerians have now bastardized this academy system in our football.
“And because it has been polluted by all of these non-existent academies, there is no motivation for the real ones to invest in Nigerian football.
“So, it boils down to a failing ecosystem.
“What is the motivation for me to invest in an academy, than for me to gather the best young prospects and prepare to sell them?

The two countries are Haiti and Turkey.
Haiti was the first country to be mathematically eliminated from the World Cup.
This follows a 3-0 defeat to Brazil in Philadelphia earlier today.
The result left Haiti with zero points after two Group C matches, guaranteeing they cannot progress to the Round of 32 stage.
