According to the report, the deadly explosion occurred around 7:00 a.m. on May 16, 2026, in Jubilaram community, where the insurgents were allegedly preparing an explosive device.
Sources revealed that the group was led by a suspected bomb specialist identified as Abu Umar, who died alongside five other members during the blast. Three additional suspects reportedly sustained severe injuries in the incident.
Security operatives said the deceased were members of an ISWAP bomb-making unit believed to be operating within the Marte–Kerenoa–Wulgo corridor of the Lake Chad region.
“The explosion reportedly occurred while the device was being assembled, leading to a sudden detonation that destroyed their location and killed those inside,” Makama stated in his post.

A 49-year-old Nigerian national has been arrested in New Delhi by India's Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) for his alleged role in an international cyber fraud syndicate that creates fake social media profiles of American and British citizens to emotionally manipulate and financially defraud unsuspecting victims.
The suspect, identified as Uchenwa, was apprehended on Friday, May 15, 2026, from a residence in Khanpur, South Delhi, following an investigation triggered by a complaint from a Lucknow resident who was allegedly swindled out of nearly Rs 68 lakh — equivalent to tens of millions of naira.
According to STF officials, the syndicate's modus operandi involved creating convincing fake profiles of citizens from the United States and United Kingdom on social media platforms and using them to befriend Indian men and women. Once an emotional bond was established, victims were told that expensive gifts, luxury items, or large sums of foreign currency were being sent to them from abroad.
The victims were subsequently contacted by gang members posing as customs or income tax officials, who demanded payments for clearance charges, GST, or other fabricated fees before the supposed gifts could be released.
In the specific case that triggered the investigation, the Lucknow victim received a Facebook friend request in August 2025 from a woman calling herself "Doris William," who claimed to be from England. After months of emotional grooming, he was told she planned to visit India carrying pounds worth nearly Rs 3 crore. He was then informed that she had been detained at Delhi airport for carrying a large sum of foreign currency and was asked to pay Rs 61,500 in clearance charges via a UPI account.
The payments did not stop there. Fraudsters made repeated demands under various pretexts, with the victim transferring nearly Rs 40 lakh to multiple accounts. A separate fraudster posing as a remittance officer later extracted an additional Rs 28 lakh. The deception continued until January 2026, when the victim finally realised he had been scammed and approached the authorities.
Three mobile phones and four SIM cards were recovered from Uchenwa at the time of his arrest. During interrogation, he admitted to having arrived in India in 2010 for legitimate garment business but said he turned to cybercrime after suffering financial losses.

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the death of 17 of its officers following a deadly terrorist assault on the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, in the early hours of May 8, 2026.
According to a statement signed by Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the slain officers were undergoing specialised counter-terrorism and tactical training at the institution when terrorists launched a coordinated, multi-directional attack on the facility at approximately 1:15 a.m. Several Nigerian Army personnel also lost their lives while repelling the assault.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, described the fallen officers as patriotic and dedicated professionals who gave their lives in the line of duty. He extended the condolences of the entire Police Force to the families of the deceased, pledging that their sacrifice would never be forgotten.

Three aspirants of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who were anointed as consensus candidates by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State for House of Representatives seats have been disqualified by the party.
The three aspirants endorsed by Aiyedatiwa, who have been screened out, were identified as Tajudeen Adefisoye (Idanre/Ifedore federal constituency), Victor Ategbole (Akoko South-East/South-West federal constituency) and Samuel Arowele (Owo/Ose federal constituency).
Others not cleared along with the governor’s preferred aspirants are Seun Ajongbolo (Akoko South-East/South-West federal constituency), Morufu Ibrahim, Oyeniyi Oseni ((Akoko North-East/North-West) and Olaleye Adedipe (Akoko North-East/North-West).
With the reasons for the disqualification of the aspirants not revealed in a statement issued on Saturday by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Felix Morka, some aspirants in the state have kicked and condemned the endorsement of the anointed aspirants.

The suspect, Isioma Anthony, a native of Ndokwa West Local Government Area, was intercepted at around 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2026. Security operatives recovered 40 grams of crack cocaine, 240 grams of cannabis sativa, 12 grams of heroin, and 17 grams of methamphetamine from his possession.

A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has sentenced two security guards to life imprisonment without the option of fine for the repeated segxwal abuse of a young girl that spanned six harrowing years, beginning when she was just six years old.
Justice S.M. Mayana handed down the sentence against James Sule, 30, and Adamu Yau, 25, following their conviction secured by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
According to NAPTIP, the ordeal began in 2016 when Sule, who was employed as a security guard at the victim's family residence in Penthouse Estate, Lugbe, Abuja, was asked by the girl's grandmother to fix a faulty toilet. Seizing the opportunity, he lured the child into the toilet under the pretence of shielding her from punishment, before locking the door, removing her clothing, and molesting her while covering her mouth. He subsequently threatened her with a knife to ensure her silence.
Sule later drew two other estate guards — Adamu Yau and one Muhammed, who remains at large — into the abuse, with the trio repeatedly assaulting the victim over the following years whenever she returned from school before her parents arrived home.
The agency disclosed that the victim endured the trauma in silence for approximately six years. Her parents eventually grew suspicious after noticing disturbing changes in her behaviour — particularly her visible agitation whenever Sule entered the house and her refusal to allow him escort her to or from school. She eventually disclosed the abuse to a pastor at a prayer house to which her parents had taken her.
The suspects were arrested and charged to court in February 2023 before being formally arraigned in October of the same year. Real Madrid forward, Kylian Mbappe, has revealed that the mistake he made at the club this season was his failure to help the Los Blancos win trophies this season.
The Frenchman spoke at his post-match interview after Real Madrid’s LaLiga 2-0 win against Real Oviedo on Thursday.
“My mistake was not helping the team win titles. The rest is just opinions,” Mbappe said.

Benfica manager, Jose Mourinho, has revealed that he turned down the chance to discuss a new contract with the club this week.
According to Mourinho, the fresh terms were put on the table this week.
However, the 63-year-old has claimed it is the wrong time to negotiate with the Portuguese club.
Mourinho, who is expected to leave for Real Madrid in the summer, has now said he will make a definitive decision next week.
He told reporters: “Yes, on Wednesday I received a contract extension offer from Benfica.
“The offer was given to my agent, but I didn’t want to see it, find out about it or consider it.
“I’ll only do that from Sunday onwards; I’d say on Sunday.”

Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has opened up about growing up without stable electricity in Nigeria, recalling how her grandmother had to quickly sell tomatoes and pepper because there was no power supply to preserve them.
The Afrobeats star shared the experience while speaking on equitable energy access at the Global Citizen NOW event in New York City during a conversation with Zain Asher.
Reflecting on her childhood, Ayra Starr said the absence of electricity shaped her resilience and forced her to find ways to adapt to difficult living conditions.
“My grandma used to sell tomatoes and pepper; we had to sell it quick because we didn’t have electricity to store them. I had to find ways to do what I had to do,” she said.
“Growing up, having electricity would’ve made a big difference.”
The singer explained that simple comforts many people take for granted, including fans and air conditioning, could have significantly improved her learning experience as a child.
“The experience for me definitely made me who I am today because I’ve had to find ways to do things. I had to do without the comfort of electricity and all of that,” she stated.
“If I came back from school and I was able to have AC or even fan in the heat and do my assignments, that would have made a big difference.”
Ayra Starr noted that unreliable electricity is a common reality for many Nigerian children.
“Every Nigerian child has faced some type of electricity issues or not having to depend on electricity to do a lot of things,” she said.
The music star also admitted that before participating in the discussion, she had limited knowledge about global energy solutions, but described the experience as eye-opening and inspiring.
“Before this, I didn’t really know much about global energy solutions, I’m not going to lie. But I’m learning so much and it’s so inspiring. We are a lot of young people in Africa. They are very eager to work and change the continent for the better,” she added.]]>
