After an unexpected vacation, we’re back with a movie we have been chomping at the bit to watch. To be honest, it was everything we hoped it would be. It was like watching an action movie dubbed by Tommy Wiseau and we have zero complaints.

We have a lot to love about Angel Town, including Jacque absolutely destroying fools. Its also the first movie where the main character is 100% optional. We only have one question…

Hey pals, we had a very busy two weeks. Between our normal schedule, John on vacation, moving and then having some dental work, the next thing we knew we were out of time. So instead, we sat down and put our heads together to find a classic episode of the podcast. Something from the archives that is one of our favorites.

I guess you can say we had pasta on the brain. In this classic rerun of the show we go all the way back to episode number 99, originally released in June of 2018. We love this episode of Miami Vice and has brought back some fun memories.

In just about every episode of GWTH this season we’ve mentioned one movie. An amazing movie with John Stamos as a high schooler who suddenly learns gymkata. With John being on vacation, Melissa and Dom see this opportunity to finally discuss Never Too Young To Die. A delightfully ridiculous movie that you should definitely watch.

With a great cast, an over-the-top story and oddly specific music, you absolutely need to check this episode out and then immediately go watch this movie. This is a perfect summer movie. So get out the White Claws and turn up your headphones.

Say what! A new episode of Go With The Heat? The last Miami Vice based GWTH came out on 03/25, so its been about six months since we last published an episode. This episode will come out on Sept. 23. On Sept. 24 we published GWTH no. 112 which was a retrospective on the Sonny Burnett arc.

We have some exciting news about this podcast! The biggest news is that new episodes of Go With The Heat will be hitting your feeds on 10/14/2019.

The glorious era of 1975 - 1995

A time when you were toast on the streets unless you knew karate or gymnastics, when motorcycle gangs roamed the earth, looking for any excuse to get mixed up into a donnybrook.
This really was a special era. It was different because you could be a big name actor and be in a very low budget, off the rails movie. It might even make money.
Background on movie night. We started in 2013, full bore in 2014. It really started becacuse we wanted to show Jenna movies which she almost never watches. It quickly changed because we realized how many amazing movies there are.
What’s different is that we love these movies. There’s lots of people who make podcasts about bad movies. They make it just to take a big ol’ dump on them. Just ranting about “how did this thing get made”. But we love the weird. We love the karate scenes. We love that JCVD always has a backstory that requires him to say that he was originally born in France and that explains his weird accent
The reason why these movies are great is because they are willing to try new things but also not take themselves so seriously

The plan

We’re gonna change this into a movie podcast, comes out bi-weekly. This will allow us to be more flexible with what movies we pick. We want to keep the Vice connection. So we’re gonna either A) Pick a movie that has a Vice star/guest star in it or B) Fits the theme of Miami Vice.
We didn’t feel that another TV show would fit. Vice was so great, we want to add to the GWTH show rather than take it to a totally new area. I know this is new, but there’s gonna be a lot of familiar faces in these movies
We also want to pick things that are deep cast, music is a centerpiece and we love for both its story plus being able to have some fun.
We already have a movie slate picked out to start, the first episode will come out on 10/14 and we’ll be breaking down Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man, one of the first movies after Vice for DJ

128 - World of Trouble

So you’re probably thinking, “Hey pals, where’s the Freefall? Why isn’t this Freefall?” We decided many weeks back that we would watch the lost episodes before getting to the final episode of season 5 and of Miami Vice. It’s the way it was written and we have the luxury to watch it in that order now.

Its a good thing too! In this, the first of the lost episodes, we get closure on one of the best villains from the show. Al Lombard makes his triumphant return and his final exit. We’re sad to see Al go, but its so nice to get closure on this story.

John is really impressed by the planning to drop a dead guy from a helicopter into a pool. Melissa thinks Al carries spaghetti in his pockets and Dominic wonders if the preschool Tommy goes to is the same with the pumping iron kid.

Its a fantastic episode of your Miami Vice podcast.

127 - Victims of Circumstance

What a lead up to Freefall! This is a stellar episode with some serious social commentary. In this episode of Miami Vice the duo (plus Stan) attempt to infiltrate the Patriot Brigade, a white supremacist group they think is attempting to murder witnesses to death camp murders during World War II. Unfortunately by the end, they’re able to bring in the actual perpetrator, but can’t do anything about a group of people who deserve to be brought down.

We all loved this episode of Miami Vice and how it could still fit in today’s political climate. Dominic is stuck on that car door that keeps making an appearance. Melissa takes a swipe at Quantum Leap and John reviews all the other times we’ve seen these guest stars in Miami Vice.

With the extended period between Vice episodes last week there was more news to cover than time on this show. This week we’re going to go back to mid-April to look at a story I missed. On April 19, Trisha Meili was attacked in Central Park, New York and was eventually dubbed the Central Park Jogger Case or the Central Park Five.

After the attack 5 juvenile men where apprehended, charged and convicted of the attack. Through the rest of 1989 and beyond this case has been one of the most covered and perhaps the biggest crime story of the 80’s. In 2002 the confession and DNA evidence from another man found the real attacker and the Central Park 5, who were wrongly convicted, had their charges vacated.

In Music…

I mentioned last time there was one song I skipped to cover this time on This Week In Vice. From the album of the same name, Madonna’s smash hit Like a Prayer takes over the Hot 100 and keeps it for three weeks. Considered one of Madonna’s best, the song was not without controversy. The music video, directed by the Mary Lambert, was protested by The Vatican and other religious groups. Like a Prayer endured the controversy and is still one of the best pop songs of a generation.

In Movies…

Speaking of Mary Lambert, Pet Semetary would be number one a the box office until mid-May so we go to the archives and holy smokes there’s a lot to choose from.

There are some amazing movies hiding behind Pet Semetary including The Dream Team, a comedy starring Michael Keaton and Christopher Lloyd. Also playing is the legendary sports drama Kevin Costner, the third greatest sports movie behind Major League and of course, Bull Durham. Third on the list of classics is the Jean-Claude Van Damme scifi camp classic Cyborg. I don’t care if a lot of people don’t like Cyborg, in my house we love JCVD and everything he does.

Which brings me to the final classic to review this week. Starring John Cusack and directed by Cameron Crowe is the fantastic romantic dramedy Say Anything…. The story, the music, Lloyd Dob

Okay, okay… No one freak out. Yes, we are having a “meh” few episodes of Miami Vice as we near the end of season three. But, that doesn’t mean that’s how Go With The Heat isn’t closing out the season with a bang! This episode revolves around a crooked DEA agent. I know, another dirty cop. The episode does have Izzy, deep music selection and an I.A.D. officer who gets really close to finally nailing Crockett.

John introduces Dominic to Grace Jones and finds a way to work in a meat fondler reference. Dominic professes his love for Bryan Adams and Melissa is REALLY upset no one is thinking of Brian.

Just three episodes left in season three of Miami Vice.

In news…

There is a lot of news to talk about in the month and half between Miami Vice episodes so lets rapid fire a few stories. On March 26 the USSR held its first free elections, selecting Boris Yeltsin. On April 15 96 people died in a FA Cup match later called the Hillsborough Disaster. The on April 19 47 crew members of the USS Iowa died in an explosion in the Number Two gun turret.

The biggest news of this timeframe was the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Prince William Sound, Alaska. The ship struck the Bligh Reef, spilling 10.8 million gallons of oil into the sound. Duo to its remote location, the spill cover 1,300 miles of coastline and 11,000 square miles of ocean. Numerous oversights led to the disaster including a drunk captain and the senior officer who was supposed to be in charge asleep in his bunk.

In Sports…

On March 22 goalie Clint Malarchuk suffered a life threatening injury after two St. Louis Blues players crashed into the net. During the hit a skate from Blues Steve Tuttle cut Malarchuk’s carotid artery. Malarchuk lost 1.5 liters of blood and 300 stitches to patch the 6 inch wound.

In Music…

In this time period there are technically five songs that would reach number one on the Hot 100, one of them I will skip until next time. First up is The Living Years by Mike + The Mechanics. This is one of many number one hits from the band who makes constant appearance in Miami Vice.

Up next is The Look by Roxette and rounding out our rapid fire look back is She Drives Me Crazy by Fine Young Cannibals. The last song and the one I’ll spend a little more time talking about is Eternal Flame by The Bangles.

From the album Everything the love song would be a worldwide phenomenon. The Bangles were perfect for the MTV generation and this music video played around the clock throughout 1989.

In Movies…

As with music there are four movies that would claim the top spot at the box office during this timeframe. First up is the unnecessary comedy sequel Fletch Lives starring Chevy Chase

We’re back after a week off during the holidays and its straight down to business. Its another artsy-fartsy episode that also includes a dirty cop… You think the Vice team would question anyone’s willing involvement from outside the team as they’ve been burned so many times. I guess they just have a good heart and really, REALLY want to trust people.

This episode has drugs, has art, has buying art with drugs! The team gets double-crossed leaving Sonny to make a middle of the road Florida Gators level tackle.

Dominic wants to spend the whole time talking about Sigmar. Melissa defends Sonny’s lack of art knowledge and John gets another chance to talk about ol’ Slow Hand.

Its a quality episode of Vice and a fantastic episode of your Miami Vice podcast.

Hey pals, with the holidays and kids and family and… Well, you know all the excuses. We took a week off to take a break around the holidays and decided to look back to a CLASSIC RERUN of your favorite Miami Vice podcast. The Cell Within put us into a Tubbs mood and instead of leaving you high and dry without a Go With The Heat podcast this week, we’re bringing back one of our favorite Tubbs episodes in Tale of the Goat. This episode of the podcast came out almost 2 years ago and we have to say its real obvious how much Vice has changed.

This was a fun episode, mostly for Tubbs’ “I’ve been drugged” acting and Santeria hitmen riding dirt bikes.

We hope you all had a great holiday, we’ll be back next week!

Voodoo. VOODOO. Tubbs has some bad loas and we have what might be our favorite episode of the season so far. Legba (the villains real name) is out to get revenge and only Tubbs’ cocky attitude and breezy suit can stop him. Right from the get go we fall in love with this episode of Miami Vice… For all the wrong reasons.

Bad lines, awkward scenes and Tubbs getting a case of the Yips make for one of our funniest episodes of Go With The Heat. Melissa couldn’t wait for us to see Tubbs leg cramp acting, John is concerned about people turning into goats and Dominic still hasn’t stopped laughing about “Yips”.

Its a Tubbs-tastic episode of Miami Vice that also includes one of the greatest music guests ever. In this episode Tubbs finds himself locked in the sex dungeon of a psychopath who has made it his personal mission to hold the world accountable for their sins against society. Tubbs is left with little choice but to witness countless horrors all while trying to manipulate Manning to let him go or at least let his guard down.

Dominic feels really bad for Manning's assistant and tells him to go ahead and get revenge. Melissa reminds us that Tubbs took night school and knows his way around an electric chair. John... John is forced to talk about Yanni.

A combination of both ground and aircraft crew errors led to the aircraft to crash into Pico Alto Mountain. In Sports… The NBA announces the Hall of Fame class of 1989. This group includes the Boston Celtics great KC Jones and journeyman Lenny Wilkens. Both Jones and Wilkens led prolific careers as both players and coaches. In Music… Goodbye Phil, Two Hearts finally gets knocked off the top of the Hot 100 and in-between Collins and Paula Abdul is a true one hit wonder. Sneaking in for just one week is When I’m With You by the arena rock band Sheriff. From their self-titled album the song originally hit the Hot 100 in 1983 but in 1988 found new radio play, years after the band had already broke up. To add to the strangeness of this song, in the era of video killed the radio star, this song was released both in 1982 and 1988 without a music video. In Movies… Rain Man finally relents at the top of the Box Office and a new film finally takes number one. Starring Nick Nolte and Martin Short is the crime-comedy film Three Fugitives. The film follows one career criminal just released from prison and one desperate father robbing a bank to help his sick daughter. The film performed well, regardless of the poor reviews from critics. But as I mentioned before, critics are a bunch of jerks. And that’s everything you need to know that was happening when Miami Vice was king. We knew Stan’s troubles would finally be exposed but none of us were ready for this. Stan is in real trouble and not just because someone is trying to kill him. He’s drinking, gambling and in general falling apart. He’s in a bad, bad place. This story might be about the mobsters he owes money to, but its so much deeper than that, exposing all of his problems. Worst of all, by the end nothing is better. What year is it? Did we transport to 1984? In this episode of Miami Vice we have two cases of Deja Vu. First, this is the final episode for the evil Frank Mosca & he definitely gets what he deserves. Yes, we’re excited we actually get closure to the story. But, this episode is almost a mirror image of “Give a Little, Take a Little” from season 1. Yet, we have a ton of fun with this episode that tackles a very serious topic. Dominic is impressed with the use of a forklift as a torture device. John is seriously concerned for the spaghetti factory now that both Cook and Mosca are gone. Melissa has some strong words for the Vice teams judgy-faces. Plus we all learn about the show we desperately want to revive that includes Frank Stallone, Don Swayze and Joey Travolta.
