Tenerife’s audiovisual sector set several historic records in 2025: 4,249 jobs were created, representing a 15% increase on 2024 (which recorded 3,696), and the sector generated an economic impact of €117 million—almost €15 million more than in 2023, the previous record year.

These are some of the figures from the sector balance over the past year collected by the Tenerife Film Commission, the department of Tenerife Tourism responsible for fostering audiovisual production on the island. The TFC partners with Spanish, international and local production companies in film, television series, animation, advertising and post-production projects.

Regional Minister for Tourism of the Tenerife Island Council, Lope Afonso, explains that “The audiovisual sector in Tenerife is no longer an aspiration, it is a driver of highly skilled employment. The Tenerife Film Commission’s 2025 balance sheet shows an all-time record for economic impact: productions generated €117 million on the island, the highest figure to date. But beyond turnover, what I want to highlight today is human capital”.

The Chief Executive Officer of Tourism of Tenerife, Dimple Melwani, notes that “these results are the outcome of a clearly defined international positioning strategy, aligned with public institutions and companies in the audiovisual sector, together with tailored support for productions and strong public–private collaboration. Beyond the figures, the true measure of success lies in the growth of human capital, with an increasing number of professionals from the island taking on key responsibilities in both national and international productions.”

In this regard, she underlines that one of the priority objectives of the Tenerife Film Commission—on which work is currently under way—is to promote, in collaboration with institutions, training centres and production companies associated with the Tenerife Film Commission, specialised training programmes that generate genuine opportunities and stable employment for young people and professionals on the island.

Melwani further emphasises that “we are championing a responsible and sustainable production model, demonstrating that growth can go hand in hand with a firm commitment to the environment. Looking ahead to 2026, our challenge is to continue improving the experience of production companies by simplifying procedures and streamlining permits, thereby strengthening Tenerife’s competitiveness as a filming destination, while also seeing the training agreements currently in progress come to fruition.”

During 2025, the island hosted a total of 166 audiovisual productions, compared with 145 in 2024, and close to the historic record of 189 productions in 2021. By type of project, 31 fiction feature films were shot, which is 20 more than the previous year. The stable figure of 15 productions in fiction series for platforms and television channels also stands out. Eight television programmes were filmed, as well as five feature-length documentaries and two docuseries. As for animation projects, companies and studios participated in nine different projects. At the same time, 35 advertising spots and 51 photography sessions were held. Likewise, there were four exclusively post-production projects.

Of the total number of projects completed, 98 – around 60% – were international productions, and 62 were Spanish productions. The new record for number of filming days logged in 2025 is also notable: there was a total of 1,526 filming days, considerably more than the previous record of 1,207 set in 2021. The significant increase in the number of shooting days, in relation to the total number of productions, indicates that shoots on the island are considerably longer, and projects spend more time here. The sector generated employment for 4,249 technical and artistic staff, also breaking a record by exceeding the 3,696 people employed in 2024.

If we analyse the daily economic impact, audiovisual activity left an average investment of €464,616 for each working day of the year, which reflects the direct and sustained expenditure in this strategic sector of the island’s economy.

Relevant feature films
The growth in the number of productions in 2025 is largely due to the increase in feature films, with 31 projects, compared with the 11 produced in Tenerife in 2024. Of these, 25 were Spanish feature films and six were foreign productions. Of the Spanish films, 23 took advantage of the Article 36.1 incentive and two of them received subsidies. Among the international feature films, four of them took advantage of the Article 36.2 incentive for foreign productions. These projects had an average duration of 16 filming days and an average economic investment of €77,457 per working day.

Among the foreign films that Tenerife hosted in 2025, the American feature film ‘Day Drinker’, produced by Lionsgate, stands out. The film reunites Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz as stars for the fourth time on screen in a story of intrigue on the high seas. Also notable is the film ‘The Hive’ directed by the Spanish filmmaker Martín Rosete, which had Sebastián Álvarez (Volcano Films) as executive producer, as well as production services from Maximilian Leo and Jonas Katzenstein (both of augenschein Filmproduktion). For this project, shot between July and August 2025, the production company participated in the design and creative execution of the project. The involvement of Canarian team leaders such as Iombi García as director of photography, Orlando Harris in art direction, Nuria Machado as head of styling, and Poppy Ramos and Alfredro Aguirre, as heads of makeup and hairdressing, are signs of the industry’s current transition in Tenerife. The island is more than a filming destination, and is increasingly consolidated as an active player in the design and development of creative projects thanks to skilled local teams. ‘Mojito’ was another European project produced by the Danish production company SF Studios Copenhagen, together with Sur Film as a service producer.

Among the main Spanish productions are ‘Bajo un fuego’, directed by Martín Cuervo, from Secuoya Studios and Álamo Producciones, produced with services from Riverflow Pictures. The film is a sequel to ‘Bajo un volcán’, released last May, and also stars Cuban-American actor William Levy. ‘Bajo risco’ is a period feature film set in the 17th century in La Graciosa and produced by the Canarian production companies El Viaje Films and La Banda Negra.

TV series
In 2025, 15 series were filmed in Tenerife (compared with 14 in 2024) for prominent platforms and channels such as Paramount, Netflix, Amazon Prime and Movistar. Of the total, 10 were Spanish productions and five were international. Series shoots for platforms and TV channels have had an average duration of 31 days per project and an average investment of €108,700 per day of filming. The approximate daily expenditure on the island attributable to series filming per working day was €204,000.

Among the international projects are the American series ‘NCIS Tony & Ziva’, a spin-off of the popular police series ‘NCIS’, a Paramount production released on Prime Video. Production services were provided by Seven Islands Films. There was also the German series ‘Alea Aquarius’, produced by Red Balloon and ‘Frauds’ from the British production company Monumental TV for ITV.

Some of the most significant Spanish series were ‘Aquel’, produced by DLO Banijay, a biographical series on the singer Raphael; ‘El laberinto de las mariposas’, a romantic thriller, starring Can Yaman, from Secuoya Films and ‘Yakarta’, from MediaPro Studio and Buendía Estudios Canarias for Movistar+, starring Javier Cámara, and winner of the 2026 Feroz Award for best television series.

The Irish series ‘These sacred vows’, by Treasure Entertainment and the American series ‘Wild Things’, for Apple TV+, had participation from the service production company Anima Stillking and obtained the Tenerife Film Commission’s sustainable audiovisual production label in 2025, thanks to the successful implementation of their Sustainability Plans.

Animation
The animation sector remained a significant presence in 2025, with five animated feature films – four international and one Spanish – and two series, all of which were produced under the tax incentive. The total investment in animation, taking annual and multi-year projects into account, was €15,288,275 somewhat lower than the €19 million recorded in 2024. These projects generated 2,942 working days and employed 910 people in the animation field.

Among the animation projects are the Canadian feature film ‘Tangles’, by Giant Ant, in which Tomavision Studio took part, and the German production ‘Arnie and Barney’ by Studio 100 together with 3Doubles Producciones. This Canarian animation studio also participated in ‘Evolution’ with Spain The Thinklab and in the Spanish feature film ‘Heidi. El rescate del lince’, in co-production with German and Belgium teams. For its part, B-Water Studios participated in the German feature film ‘Conni’, by Youngfilms GmbH & Co and in the film ‘Lotte & Totte’, by the Danish production company Fridthjof Animation ApS. Some of the most noteworthy animated series are the German ‘Dino Daze’, by Mack One Deutschland GmbH & Co KG and B Water Studios with Panta Rei Animation and the Swiss series ‘The Treehouse Gang’ by the production company Dschoint Ventschr Filmproduktion, with the participation of Media Solution.

Heidi: Rescue of the Lynx. Courtesy of 3Doubles Producciones

Post-production projects
Investment in exclusively post-production projects saw notable growth in 2025, from €2.7 million in 2024 to €4.2 million in 2025, representing an increase of almost 50%. This figure highlights how Tenerife has become an established location for advanced digital post-production and VFX services. Highlights include season four of the series ‘The Morning Show’ for Apple TV+ and the feature film ‘El Contable 2’ that used post-production services from the VFX studio 22Dogs, which has offices in Milan, Los Angeles and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Increased use of tax incentives by local companies
A total of 52 productions took advantage of the tax incentive in 2025, compared with 37 in 2024 and 26 in 2023. Of particular note is the use of the domestic incentive for investment in Spanish productions or co-productions. That number has doubled compared with the previous year’s figures, going from 17 projects in 2024 to 34 in 2025. In addition, there is a growing trend on the part of long established local production companies in Tenerife to take advantage of the tax incentive, something less common in previous years. Financing contracts have been the key for increasing the number of independent projects that can access the tax incentive.

International reach and recognition
Tenerife’s audiovisual industry had a significant presence internationally over the past year. Feature films such as ‘Mariposas Negras’ received multiple recognitions on the Spanish and international awards circuit, such as the Goya, Forqué, Platino, Gaudí and Quirino awards, among others. For its part, ‘Superklaus’, co-produced by 3Doubles Producciones, was nominated for the Goya Awards in the animation category. In 2025, the Tenerife production company Sur Film, which also has offices in Barcelona and Lisbon, co-produced the film ‘Rosebush Pruning’ by Brazilian director Karim Aïnouz, which is participating in the competition for the Golden Bear at the 2026 Berlin International Film Festival.

Professional service providers with the Tenerife Film Commission
Around 90 companies affiliated with the Tenerife Film Commission work regularly on local, Spanish and international productions that take place on the island. In addition to production companies and service production firms, the VFX studios also stand out, as do digital image laboratories and service providers in sound recording, camera rental, lighting equipment, machinery, production material, film-friendly hotels, catering and logistics. In 2025, a total of 11 companies located in Tenerife became affiliated with the TFC: Crazy Meerkat, Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife, Hotel Meliá Hacienda del Conde, Hotel Silken Saaj Maar, Gran Hotel Taoro, Media Solution, Mendips Film, Pop House, Red Animation, Roamer Service and Topshot.

Promotion, training and challenges
The Tenerife Film Commission was present at six international events, and held 92 professional meetings in markets such as European Film Market, Series Mania, MIFA (Annecy), the San Sebastian Festival, MIPCOM and Shooting Locations Marketplace (SLM).

On the island, the TFC participated in seven events in the sector, including the Quirino Awards and its associated Forum, CIIF Market, Isla Calavera, Afro-indigenous Perspectives and its associated market, FICMEC, Mundos Digitales Canarias and the Audiovisual Expo.

The TFC also collaborated in numerous training actions, such as the Spanish Film Academy’s Rueda meeting, the IslaBentura and Quirino Lab laboratories, animation workshops such as ‘Santa Cruz Animada’, production management courses and various talks in educational and vocational training centres. Work was also done in coordination with the Regional Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands and with private entities to promote ongoing training in the sector.

As for the TFC’s activity, in 2025 411 applications were attended, compared with 373 in 2024. The 2025 figure was almost identical to that logged in 2023 (402), which highlights the sector’s consolidated and enduring desire to locate its productions in Tenerife.

With a view to 2026, one of the main challenges identified by the Tenerife Film Commission is to simplify administrative procedures, especially for filming projects with a relatively lower impact. The aim is to streamline permits and adapt deadlines to the real logistics of audiovisual productions. This improvement would attract a greater volume of advertising projects, which are essential to ensuring continuity in the sector’s professional ecosystem.

Barceló Santa Cruz Contemporáneo reopened its doors with a clear ambition: to stand as a contemporary reference point for Canarian rationalist architecture. The new four‑star film-friendly hotel occupies a building originally designed by Tenerife architect Félix Sáenz Marrero, whose work epitomises the rationalist style that shaped the islands’ architectural identity in the mid‑20th century. Conceived as an eight‑storey residential block, the building is defined by the restraint of its lines and the geometric clarity of its layout—hallmarks of a movement that prized function, proportion and timeless elegance.

Set on Santa Cruz’s emblematic Rambla, alongside García Sanabria Park, the hotel offers 135 rooms 135 rooms designed to accommodate technical and artistic crews from any audiovisual production, as well as guests seeking an urban stay. Facilities include a state‑of‑the‑art fitness area, three distinct dining venues celebrating local gastronomy, and a series of flexible spaces designed to host meetings and corporate events with ease.

Gastronomy stands as one of the cornerstones of the Barceló Santa Cruz Contemporáneo project and one of the most significant milestones of its reopening. At the heart of the hotel is Sanabria Típicamente Santa Cruz, its à la carte restaurant led by the Padrón brothers—leading figures in contemporary Canarian haute cuisine. Here, they unveil their first urban gastronomic concept in Santa Cruz, embracing a more relaxed, accessible format without sacrificing culinary excellence.

Completing the transformation is B·Heaven Macusamba, the hotel’s rooftop venue, conceived as a place to experience Santa Cruz as day turns to evening. Blending leisure, social life and sweeping panoramic views, the space is open to both hotel guests and the wider public.

This elevated setting is also home to the hotel’s new swimming pool: an exclusive, serene enclave designed for disconnection, with the city unfolding below. The experience is further enriched by Breeze, a fresh and creative food offering tailored to after‑work gatherings and social encounters, alongside a signature cocktail programme curated by Yoni Mesa—Spain’s 2023 Long Drink Champion (ABT/FABE) and finalist at the World Cocktail Championship Madeira 2024. Together, these elements position B·Heaven Macusamba as one of the capital’s most compelling new social destinations.

Filmed in Tenerife over a three‑month period, from 7 April to 4 July, the production operated across 14 different locations, none of which were situated within protected natural areas. Local production services were provided by Piano Films, the Tenerife‑based division of Spanish production company Anima Stillking.

A Long-Running Production with a Positive Local Impact
The extended duration of the shoot generated a significant positive impact on the local economy. This was achieved through the direct hiring of Tenerife‑based audiovisual professionals and close collaboration with local companies that supplied essential services and equipment for the production. Such partnerships have contributed to strengthening the island’s audiovisual business ecosystem. Key collaborators included Rims, The Boss, Easy Filming, Macan Transitarios, Gomeralia, Air Media and Canary Film Sound.

Sustainability Protocols and Resource Efficiency
From an environmental perspective, These Sacred Vows implemented tailored sustainability protocols across key areas of production, including catering and energy consumption. Resource use was monitored continuously throughout the shoot, with the aim of maximising efficiency and minimising environmental impact.

Notable initiatives included internal measures to reduce food waste, encouraging the use of reusable containers among the crew, and the engagement of local catering services through Gomeralia. On the energy front, the production prioritised local power supply points and the use of portable energy stations (EcoFlows), significantly reducing the shoot’s environmental footprint.

An International Production Company of Reference
Treasure Entertainment is one of Ireland’s leading independent production companies, with a strong track record in film and television at both national and international level. Its credits include Flora and Son and Power Ballad by John Carney; John Butler’s feature film trilogy (Papi Chulo, Handsome Devil and The Stag); Viva by Paddy Breathnach, shortlisted for the Academy Awards; Good Vibrations, nominated for a BAFTA; and all three seasons of the IFTA‑winning series Smother.

The company is currently in post‑production on These Sacred Vows, a project that demonstrates a clear commitment to sustainability without compromising creative excellence, developed in close collaboration with the local audiovisual sector.

Sustainable Production Label
Tenerife Film Commission provides a Decalogue of Good Practices for sustainable audiovisual productions, alongside a verification checklist designed to assess the social, economic and environmental impact of each project and determine eligibility for the Sustainable Production label. Full conditions and requirements can be consulted here.

The screening drew a full house at the museum’s auditorium, becoming far more than a simple premiere. It unfolded as a vibrant cultural gathering that brought together filmmakers, artists and audiences around a story rooted in identity, migration and belonging.

Directed by Shirly Millo and Gadi Cimand, ‘Back to the Roots‘ follows Senegalese musician Birane Wane on an intimate physical and emotional journey from Seville back to Senegal. Through his personal story, the documentary offers an unfiltered exploration of migration, addressing its causes, challenges and possible paths forward. Along the way, it gives voice to artists, activists and local fishermen, weaving together perspectives that are often overlooked.

The release of Back to the Roots underscores Canary Productions’ commitment to storytelling with depth and social relevance, reinforcing its role as a production company capable of combining strong cinematic craft with meaningful narratives that resonate beyond the screen.

From Tenerife, Tomavision Studio continues to strengthen its presence in the international animation scene, taking part in exciting productions and collaborating with world-class partners.

The studio recently completed its work on ‘Tangles’, a traditionally animated feature film based on the graphic novel ‘Tangles: A Story About Alzheimer’s, My Mother and Me by Canadian’ author Sarah Leavitt. This heartfelt adult “dramedy,” produced by Giant Ant (Canada), Point Grey Pictures, Lylas Pictures and Monarch Media (USA), featured Tomavision’s artistry across the Clean Up, Ink & Paint, and Animation departments.

Tomavision is also co-developing ‘Las Dos Fridas’, an animated feature inspired by the life and artistic universe of Frida Kahlo, directed by Paloma Baeza and produced by London-based Lupus Films. The project has received development support from the Cabildo de Tenerife.

Meanwhile, the studio is also currently working on a new 2D animated series for children, in collaboration with an international production company. In this project, Tomavision offers rigging and animation services, exploring new visual storytelling approaches while showcasing the studio’s technical and creative versatility.

These projects -and more currently underway- reflect Tomavision’s ongoing passion for creative collaboration and meaningful storytelling — bringing animation from the Canary Islands to the world.

The drone services company has made investments in technical upgrades of more than €3,500 per aircraft to comply with new European regulations. The company is able to guarantee normal operations in urban environments after the expiration of the STS-ES-01 national scenario, thanks to having overhauled its entire documentation framework: new Operations Manuals, Operational Statements and EARO studies. This means that Airmedia360 is the first operator in Spain to complete the complex transition to the new European regulatory framework, effective from 1 January 2026. The company accordingly has overcome the two-part barrier facing the sector at the start of 2026: the supply chain crisis and the administrative block on equipment such as the DJI Inspire 3.

The expiry of the standard Spanish scenario STS-ES-01 on 31 December 2025 has invalidated previous permits, forcing operators to migrate to the new European scenarios. This process requires a profound technical and administrative restructuring that has brought activity to a halt in much of the industry. To take the next step, Airmedia360 has executed a comprehensive modernisation plan in record time. The company has made physical adaptations to each of its aircraft, installing state-of-the-art flight termination systems and parachutes, at a cost of more than €3,500 per unit.

On top of this, there is the supply chain crisis, which is keeping many European fleets grounded due to lack of component parts. Likewise, there were obstacles in moving forward with the registration of essential cinema drones such as the DJI Inspire 3, whose legalisation was delayed during the transition period.

Beyond hardware, Airmedia360’s engineering team has completely rewritten its operational safety architecture to align with European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) standards. This technological and documentary adaptation has come alongside a rigorous training plan for the human team. Airmedia360 pilots have revalidated their accreditations for compliance with the new requirements of the EASA ‘Specific’ category. They’ve become one of the few teams in Spain with authorisation for high-risk operations in urban areas.

With a hybrid profile that combines cinematic sensibility with the discipline of aeronautics, the staff of pilots and camera operators have logged thousands of hours of experience on film sets. They now also have the specific technical training to manage the new impact mitigation systems and coordination protocols in CTR environments required by the new regulations, ensuring that operational safety never compromises the creative vision of the director.

As Fran Salazar, managing director of Airmedia360, says, “The entry into force of the 2026 regulations has not been a simple formality, but a formidable barrier to entry for the sector. With the end of STS-ES-01, it was not enough to have good pilots; a capital investment and a complete document reengineering with new EAROs and manuals were needed. While other operators are still looking for components or fighting with bureaucracy, we are already running in city centres with the fully legalised Inspire 3”.

Airmedia360 offers film and advertising production companies the assurance that their filming plans will not be affected by inspections, enforcement actions or stoppages for administrative reasons.

The spirit of Carnival once again takes over Tenerife, and the streets transform into a vibrant stage where anyone can feel like the star of the show. Nothing stands in the way of immersing yourself in this celebration, which has filled the island with rhythm, colour and joy for centuries. Between 16 January and 22 February 2026, Santa Cruz once again becomes the epicentre of one of the world’s most renowned festivities, declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest and capable of attracting thousands of visitors who come to enjoy an unforgettable experience. The city bursts with life, music and fantasy, as tourists and locals blend into an atmosphere that only Carnival can create.

3, 2, 1… let the show begin!

The opening on 16 January officially launches a month full of excitement. The first week is dedicated to children and choreographic talent, with the children’s murgas on 23 and 24 January, followed by the Choreographic Groups Competition on 25 January. From 26 January onwards, the spotlight shifts to the adult murgas, who will showcase their wit and satire in four consecutive rounds until 29 January, culminating in the eagerly awaited final on 31 January. The musical atmosphere continues on 1 February with the Musical Groups Competition, an event that reflects Santa Cruz’s deep passion for its ensembles.

February arrives packed with shows that form an essential part of the Carnival spirit. The election of the Children’s Queen opens the month on 2 February, followed by the coronation of the Senior Queen and the Seniors’ Festival on 4 February. The “Song of Laughter” competition takes to the stage on 6 February, just before the comparsas fill the city with rhythm on 7 February, and the costumes and rondallas shine on 8 February. The following week continues with the Los Fregolinos concert on 10 February, the eagerly awaited Carnival Queen Gala on 11 February, and the Zarzuela Festival on 12 February—nights when monumental costumes, feathers and sequins transform the Exhibition Centre into a magical universe.

Put on your costume, we’re heading to the streets!

From 13 February onwards, Santa Cruz explodes into a whirlwind of music and costumes with the Opening Parade, the Float and Decorated Cars Competition, and the first big Carnival Night. The rhythm continues on 14 February with the Rhythm and Harmony Contest and another night of dancing, while 15 February brings the traditional Ni Fú Ni Fá concert alongside Los Fregolinos and the first Daytime Carnival, an event that gathers entire families in a festive, sunlit atmosphere.

The celebration carries on 16 February with the Drag Gala and another night of partying, and on 17 February with the Apoteosis Parade, one of the most popular processions, once again accompanied by Ni Fú Ni Fá. On 18 February comes one of the most symbolic events: the Burial of the Sardine, where inconsolable widows, eccentric characters and caricatured figures accompany the funeral procession that bids farewell to Don Carnal with humour and tradition.

The final stretch keeps the festive pulse alive with the Inclusive Carnival and the Rondallas Festival on 19 February, the Children’s Parade and Piñata Friday on 20 February, and the second Daytime Carnival along with another night of celebration on 21 February. On 22 February, Santa Cruz bids farewell to its Carnival with performances by Ni Fú Ni Fá and the Zarzuela, a fireworks display and the traditional vintage car parade—a perfect ending to an unforgettable edition.

Keep on dancing!

Beyond the capital, the whole of Tenerife dresses up. In Güímar, the performance of Las Burras turns the streets into a unique theatrical spectacle. Puerto de la Cruz celebrates its galas, parades and its famous Mascarita ponte tacón race, as well as the vintage car rally and the Drag Gala. In Tacoronte, the Piñata Chica takes over the weekend after the Santa Cruz Carnival, with a special focus on children and their vintage car parade.

Candelaria organises parades, competitions and musical performances that run from the week before Ash Wednesday. Los Gigantes concentrates its festivities in La Buganvilla Square, while Los Cristianos opens its Carnival with the election of its queen and continues with a programme that attracts thousands of visitors.

The 2026 Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival promises to be an extensive and diverse edition designed for all audiences, combining tradition, creativity and a programme that once again places the island’s capital as an international benchmark. If you’re thinking of experiencing it, this is the perfect year to let yourself be carried away by the magic of the celebration.

Tenerife wines are the result of more than five centuries of tradition and passion. In this volcanic land, bathed by the trade winds and the Atlantic, the vines are not just a crop: they are a landscape, culture and memory. Every glass calls up the power of the volcano, the freshness of the sea and the know-how of generations of winemakers who have turned the island into a unique mosaic of vineyards and wines.

A diverse territory, infinite richness

In just 3,200 hectares of vineyards—17% of the cultivated area—there is a surprising variety of microclimates and soils that give rise to wines with their own character. Red, white, rosé, sweet or sparkling… every one of them brings the volcanic and Atlantic essence of Tenerife to their flavour. More than a hundred wineries offer unforgettable experiences: tastings in volcanic settings, guided tours, pairings with Canarian cheeses or wine routes that allow you to discover the island from a new perspective.

Iconic varieties and Designations of Origin

Black listán and white listán are the most representative grapes of the archipelago. They are the source of young and aged reds with notes of earth and black fruits, and fresh or sweet whites with vibrant acidity and fruity aromas. Alongside them, the golden and aromatic malvasias recall the historical legacy of the famous Canary Sacks, which were coveted by European courts of the 16th and 17th centuries and even mentioned by renowned authors including Shakespeare.

The island has five Denominations of Origin that reflect its diversity:

Tacoronte-Acentejo: in the north, with fruity and aromatic reds representing 80% of production, plus young whites and rosés as well.

Valle de La Orotava: in the shadow of Mount Teide, with elegant and slightly bitter whites, raspberry-coloured rosés and soft reds. The iconic feature of its viticultural landscape is the traditional braided cord growing method.

Valle de Güímar: in the south, where fresh and fruity whites predominate (80% of production), along with earthy reds, rosés that feature red fruit flavours, sweet wines with hints of honey, and fine-bubble sparkling wines.

Ycoden-Daute-Isora: in the northwest, heirs of the fabled ‘Canary wines’, with dry whites with distinct freshness, golden and tropical pink malvasias, as well as intense reds with a long aftertaste.

Abona: in the south, with vineyards at the highest altitudes in Spain in Vilaflor. Its whites offer shades of almond, mango and banana, and it also features full-bodied reds and rosés.

In addition to the local indicators, there is also the Canary Islands Protected Designation of Origin. This was created in 2011 as a unifying project backed by the Canary Islands Association of Wine Growers and Winemakers. Its objective is to strengthen the regional market and bolster the archipelago’s wines on the international stage.

Tradition and modernity

Tenerife viticulture combines ancient techniques with sustainable practices. Systems such as the low trellis and the braided cord are truly agricultural works of art that adapt to the volcanic terrain and allow the land to be used for other crops. At the same time, the wineries are exploring new premium lines that consolidate the wines’ defining traits while increasing quality.

An experience that excites

To discover the wines of Tenerife is to explore the island through its aromas and textures. It is feeling how each sip connects with the volcanic land, the trade winds and the dedication of generations of winemakers. An authentic experience that makes Tenerife a destination where you don’t just drink wine: you live it. It is also a story of effort and tradition that can be experienced up close on the wine routes that are organised in a number of cities and towns, on visits to the wineries scattered throughout the island and in spaces such as the Casa del Vino.

Each visit opens the door to unique experiences such as walks through vineyards and wineries, guided tastings where you can try the wines of every winery or samplings paired with local products such as cheese, almogrote, gofio and honey. All this makes wine a common thread that allows you to discover Tenerife from a sensory perspective, awakening emotions in every glass.
