Have a New CNC Machine and need a New Post?

A post-processor is a critical step for any CAD-CAM process. The post file converts the generic toolpath information into an NC code (G-code) format that a specific CNC machine can understand.
Our product is being constantly developed to provide users with more customizable options for safe and efficient G-code to drive the machine.

To ensure that our team gets all the information needed before they start working on your machine-specific post-processor we need the following information:
1. The CNC machine make and model (Example: INTEGREX i-150)

2. The Control make and model (Example: Mazatrol SmoothX)

3. A picture of the Axis labels and direction as you can see in this example.

4. Any unique information about the machine such as:

Does the machine come with multiple heads? What heads were purchased?

Is it a multitasking machine?

Special header needed for machine monitoring?

Rotary axis tables?

Number of turrets?

Number of spindles?
…etc.

Note: We may reach out to request a list of g and m codes and the programming manual.

What is Advanced Drilling?

The Advanced Drilling toolpath allows you to create customized drill operations for specialized applications. Advanced Drill lets you divide each hole into multiple segments and customize the machining action for each segment. This differs from conventional peck drilling because of the amount of control you have over each segment.

For holes that include a large air region between two material zones, Advanced Drill lets you divide the hole into three segments to drill through the holes and rapid between them. Other applications include spot drilling, deep hole drilling, and back spot facing.

For each segment, you can customize any or all of the following conditions:

Define individual pecks within the segment, including retracts to simulate a chip break cycle.

Set the feed rate or choose rapid motion.

Change the spindle speed and direction.

Turn coolant options on or off.

Add manual entry comments or code.

Fine-tune the order in which the commands are output

DO YOU KNOW THAT A SETUP SHEET IS INCLUDED WITH YOUR IKE POST PROCESSOR?

Starting with IKE Version 9, all the IKE Post Processors come with a free of charge Setup Sheet.

The Setup Sheet is automatically created when a file is posted. It is created as an HTML file and it is located in the same NC folder where the G-code file (NC file) is typically located:
C:\Users\YourName\Documents\My Mastercam 2024\Mastercam\Mill\NC

Support for tool images and screen shots can be added using a C-Hook, IKETools2024.exe, that is available from In-House Solutions.

The Setup Sheet can be modified to show different header, tool, and operation information. The overall format will remain the same. Please contact In-House Solutions to make these modifications.

If you would like a setup sheet with a different format, they can be purchased from In-House Solutions. For a customized Setup Sheet please contact your account manager.

HOW DO I CHECK THE IKE VERSION?

1. Open your IKE post processor in an editor. Note: You can open your post processor in either the Code Expert, CIMCO or even Notepad.

OPTIMIZE YOUR USER EXPERIENCE!

Creating Tool Libraries in Mastercam

Creating your own Mill Tool library in Mastercam is an easy task that can make your programing more efficient. Using the tools for which you already defined and tested the feeds and speeds to increase productivity. You can create a separate library for each machine tool in your shop or for sets of machines that use similar tools.

1. Creating a New Tool Library with the tools used to program a part.

The easiest way to start a new tool library in Mastercam is to use the tools from the programed part file. While you program the part you can use tools and holders from Mastercam libraries or you can define new tools or import them from tool manufacturer websites as dxf or step files. The preferred feed rates and spindle speeds can be set in the Edit tool, Finalize Properties page.

To learn more on how to import a tool from a tool maker website, click here.

Once you have the part programed with all the tools and holders defined you can open the Tool Manager. The Tool Manager is divided in two sections: the Part window in which you can see the tools used to program the current file and the Library window in which the current Mastercam library is shown.

NOTE: When you create or work on a tool in the part window, you are working on a copy of the tool definition that is stored in the machine group. That means if you edit a tool from the part window, you are only changing the definition in the machine group and not in the tool library. If you create a new tool, you need to save it or copy it to the tool library window to make it available
to other Mastercam files.

To start a new library in the Tool Manager, you have to select the Create a new tool library button.

You can name the new library as wanted. In the Part window you can then select all the tools and use the down arrow to copy them into the new library. Save the new library when prompted.

2. Create Tool Assemblies in Mastercam.

The Tool Assemblies can be created in the Tool Manager. In the Part window, right mouse click and select Create tool assembly to open the Mill Assembly Designer. First you should add a tool. You can choose to define or import the tool from a library. Then define or import a holder. You can also add a component above the tool, like an extension. Furthermore, Mastercam allows you to edit the tool extension.

With the goal to have you transition to the latest Mastercam version, we have prepared instructions that will guide you through the most important steps to succeed in your transition.

DOWNLOAD THE SOFTWARE

You can easily download the installation files for Mastercam 2024 by following this link.

FIND YOUR CURRENT TYPE OF INSTALL

Is your current Mastercam installed using a Shared Mastercam folder located on the company network to be shared among other programmers or simply to be regularly backed up or is it stored locally on your workstation? To find out, you can simply open the Mastercam configuration page (ALT+F8 when in Mastercam) and look at the following section:

The default location can be found locally in the following folder: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Shared Mastercam 2023

If the path shown in the configuration is different than the default, take note of the location (Full UNC and not the shortcut of the mapped drive), it will come in handy in the installation process of the new version.

INSTALLING THE NEW VERSION

Before starting the install make sure you have all the administrator rights to proceed to the full software installation, this includes the local rights to install the software locally on the PC but also the read and write permission to the location where you plan to set the Shared Mastercam 2024 folder location, especially if you plan on putting it on the server.

STEP 1: Download Mastercam 2024 from mymastercam.com

STEP 2: Double click on the downloaded file of Mastercam 2024 to launch the installation process.

STEP 3: Choose the package you want to install, then select Mastercam 2024

STEP 4: Select Mastercam installation language and click on Next

STEP 5: Click on the Configure Mastercam button (as highlighted in the image)
Review the following items:
The default unit system to be used
Username and Company Name
The path to the location of the \Shared Mastercam 2024. Here it is possible to change the path in the cases where you would like to put this folder on the network or on a different drive.

Keep in Mind: The \Shared Mastercam 2024 folder must be accessible at any time whenever you want to use Mastercam, so if you are using a portable computer, make sure you have a proper connection to the Company Network if you choose to change the default location, especially if working outside of premises. Otherwise, Mastercam won’t be able to start.

STEP 6: Finally, click on Done to close the Configuration page and click on the Next button.

STEP 7: Accept the License agreement and click on Next to start the installation.

MIGRATION PROCEDURE FOR MASTERCAM

Here is, in few simple steps, our preferred way to proceed to the migration of your important files between 2 Mastercam versions. (Posts, Tool libraries, operation libraries, machine files, etc…) The example will be shown for a migration from Mastercam 2023 to Mastercam 2024 but can be used for any other transition to a more recent version.

STEP 1: Create 2 new folders on your computer desktop. The first one will be identified M2023, and the second will be M2024

STEP 2: Open the \Shared Mastercam 2023 (or the version you are migrating from) and within the following sub folders, make a copy of the files you use and paste them into the M2023 folder you previously created on your desktop.

In the folder \Shared Mastercam 2023\CNC Machines\
Look for files with the following extensions: mcam-control, .mcam-mmd (mill), .mcam-lmd (lathe), .mcam-rmd (router) ou .mcam-wmd (Wire)

In the folder \Shared Mastercam 2023\(Lathe, Mill, Router, Wire)\Posts\
Look for files with the following extensions: .PST et .PSB (if present) that you use

In the folder \Shared Mastercam 2023\(Lathe, Mill, Router)\Tools\
Look for files with the following extensions: .Tooldb that you use

In the folder \Shared Mastercam 2023\(Lathe, Mill, Router, Wire)\OPS\
Look for files with the following extensions: .mcam-operations et .mcam-defaults that you use

If you are using a custom setup sheet, don’t forget to look in the folder \Shared Mastercam 2023\common\reports\SST for the files with .RPX extension
that corresponds to the setup sheet you use

If you are using the Mill-Turn module, make sure you look into the following folder \Shared Mastercam 2023\Mill Turn\Machines for files with the following extension: .machine that you use

STEP 3: Once all the important files have been copied into the M2023 folder on the desktop, you can launch the M2024 (or the version you want to migrate to).

STEP 4: In Mastercam 2024 Go to the File

STEP 5: Select Convert>Migration Wizard
