GIANTS, GRIZZLIES RENEW RIVALRY THIS WEEK: The defending California League champion San Jose Giants host the Fresno Grizzlies (Rockies affiliate) in a six-game series this week at Excite Ballpark. This series marks the first meeting of the season between the Giants and Grizzlies.

NEARING FIRST HALF MIDPOINT: The Giants will reach the midpoint of the 66-game first half at the conclusion of this week’s series. Entering the week, San Jose owns a 17–10 record and sits in first place in the first half North Division standings — two games ahead of second-place Fresno (15–12). First half division winners clinch a playoff berth. The Giants will play 12 games against the Grizzlies in the first half. In addition to the current series, San Jose travels to Fresno for a six-game set from May 26–31. The first half concludes on June 18.

SPLIT WITH THE ‘HIDE: The Giants split their six-game set at Visalia last week and have still yet to lose a series this season. Through five series’ played this year, San Jose has earned three series wins and two series splits. In last week’s matchup against the Rawhide, the Giants won two of the first three games, including a 13–12 slugfest last Thursday. The game 2 loss last Wednesday saw Visalia rally for six runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to post a stunning 9–8 victory over the Giants. San Jose dropped back-to-back contests on Friday and Saturday scoring a total of only two runs in the two games, but salvaged the split on Sunday when Damian Bravo hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the top of the ninth for a 7–6 win. It was the Giants’ first victory of the season when trailing after eight innings.

HIGH-FLYING OFFENSE: The Giants are off to an excellent start at the plate this season and are currently leading the California League in several notable offensive categories. Entering the week, the Giants are tops in the league in runs scored (7.3 per game), batting average (.292), on-base percentage (.387) and OPS (.854). San Jose is also second in stolen bases (40), third home runs (32) and have the fewest strikeouts of any team in the league. The Giants have already had six games this season scoring 12 or more runs.

BRAVO BONANZA: Damian Bravo has surged at the plate for the Giants over the past few weeks. The San Jose outfielder hit safely in 12 straight games from April 15–30 — the longest hit streak by a Giants player this season. Bravo then connected for the first multi-homer game of his career when he went deep twice in last Sunday’s series finale at Visalia. Over his last 14 games, Bravo is batting .340 (18-for-53) with six doubles, four home runs and 17 RBI’s. He’s raised his season AVG from .179 to .272 during the stretch.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP: The Giants and Grizzlies are meeting for the first time since San Jose swept Fresno in the North Division Series last September on their way to a league title. Since the Grizzlies joined the Cal League in 2021, San Jose and Fresno have squared off in the postseason three times over the last five years (San Jose won playoff series’ in 2021 and 2025; Fresno won in 2022).

HITTING LEADERS: Entering the week, the Giants boast six of the top 15 individual batting averages in the California League — Isaiah Barkett (2nd, .353), Jhonny Level (7th, .333), Andy Polanco (9th, .329), Cam Maldonado (11th, .321), Rod Barajas Jr. (13th, .317) and Jeremiah Jenkins (15th, .313). Maldonado also leads the league with seven home runs with all seven of his round-trippers coming during a remarkable seven-game stretch from April 15–23. Level (5th, 24 RBI), Bravo (T8th, 20 RBI), Maldonado (T8th, 20 RBI) and Hayden Jatczak (T8th, 20 RBI) all rank among the league leaders in RBI’s. Jatczak is also tops in the league in walks (25) and third in on-base percentage (.454).

PITCHING IN: The Giants’ starting rotation has fashioned a league-best 4.19 ERA this season — significantly lower than the next-closest team (Inland Empire 4.90). San Jose starters also own the lowest opponents batting average (.230) and most strikeouts (11.5 per 9 innings) of any starting staff in the league. Argenis Cayama has been especially impressive with a 30-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 23 1/3 innings (3.09 ERA). Conversely, the Giants bullpen has struggled as the group’s 6.58 ERA is last in the league. Over the last two series’ (12 games), Giants relievers have posted a combined 8.89 ERA (56 ER/56.2 IP). Garrett Langrell does lead the league with four saves and has allowed only two runs in his last 11 2/3 innings (1.54 ERA).

ON DECK: Following the current series against Fresno, the Giants travel to Southern California for a six-game set at Dodgers affiliate Ontario from May 12–17. San Jose returns to Excite Ballpark to host the Stockton Ports on Tuesday, May 19.

GIANTS IN VISALIA THIS WEEK: The defending California League champion San Jose Giants are back on the road this week for a six-game series against the Visalia Rawhide (Diamondbacks affiliate) at Valley Strong Ballpark. The series begins with an 11:05 AM matinee on Tuesday before four straight evening contests Wednesday through Saturday (all at 6:35 PM) and then another day game on Sunday (2:05 PM). The Giants previously won five of six games against Visalia in San Jose from April 7–12.

SETTLED FOR A SPLIT: The Giants settled for a split of their six-game series against the visiting Ontario Tower Buzzers last week at Excite Ballpark. In the first-ever meeting between the two teams, San Jose earned three straight victories to open the series outscoring the Tower Buzzers by a 25–10 margin. Ontario though bounced back to win the final three games scoring a combined 32 runs in the three contests to salvage the split. It marked the first time this season that the Giants have lost consecutive games. It was also the first time San Jose failed to win a series after opening the season with three straight series victories (2–1 at Stockton, 5–1 vs. Visalia, 4–2 at Rancho Cucamonga). Despite the three straight losses to end the series, the Giants still enter this week with the best record in the California League at 14–7.

HIGH-FLYING OFFENSE: The Giants are off to an excellent start at the plate averaging 7.6 runs per game entering the week. Last year, San Jose averaged 6.1 runs per contest, which led the California League and set a team record. The Giants are currently leading the league in batting average (.301), on-base percentage (.392) and doubles (52) while ranking second in runs scored and home runs (25). San Jose has scored at least 10 runs in six of their first 21 games this season.

MALDONADO MASHING: Cam Maldonado is in the midst of an incredible power surge at the plate as the Giants outfielder has connected for seven home runs over his last eight games dating back to April 15. During the eight-game stretch, Maldonado is 16-for-32 (.500 AVG) with 14 RBI’s. He had a pair of two-homer games during the last road trip in Rancho Cucamonga (April 16 and April 19) while his most recent round-tripper was a tiebreaking three-run blast in the eighth inning of the April 23 contest against Ontario (a 9–6 Giants win). Maldonado starts this week leading the California League in home runs (7) and OPS (1.120) while also ranking eighth in RBI’s (18).

ON THE MOUND: Keyner Martinez is slated to make the start on the mound for the Giants in Tuesday’s series opener against the Rawhide. Martinez twirled a gem in his most recent start (April 21 vs. Ontario) limiting the Tower Buzzers to one hit over five scoreless innings while collecting seven strikeouts to earn California League Pitcher of the Week honors. Last season, Martinez was the Arizona Complex League Pitcher of the Year (Rookie-level) before joining San Jose late in the campaign. Argenis Cayama, who gets the ball on Thursday, boasts a 22-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio in his first four starts this season (17 2/3 IP) to go with a 3.06 ERA. Friday starter Braydon Risley has fanned 20 batters in 13 1/3 innings while holding the opposition to a .184 AVG (3.38 ERA). Out of the bullpen, Garrett Langrell owns three saves and has not given up a run over his last six appearances (8 2/3 IP). As a staff, the Giants are leading the Cal League in strikeouts (11.4 per game) while ranking second in ERA (5.34). The San Jose bullpen did struggle though in last week’s series against Ontario posting a 9.20 ERA (31 earned runs allowed in 30 1/3 innings pitched).

LEVELING UP: Jhonny Level has continued his sizzling start at the plate for the Giants. The 19-year old shortstop, currently rated the #4 prospect in the organization by MLB.com, starts this week third in the California League in batting average (.364) and first in hits (28). Level also ranks third in home runs (4) and RBI’s (21) and fourth in OPS (1.066). He’s hit safely in 15 of his 17 games played, including nine multi-hit contests. The youngest player on the Giants roster currently, Level was named the Top MLB Prospect in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League last season.

STACKING SERIES WINS: The Giants have opened the regular season with three consecutive series wins. San Jose began the year by taking two of three games in a short series at Stockton before claiming five of six contests from the Visalia Rawhide during their opening homestand. Last week, the Giants continued their strong start by winning four of six at South Division-leading Rancho Cucamonga. The Giants have enjoyed three separate three-game winning streaks already and have yet to lose consecutive games this season. San Jose enters this week with a league-best 11–4 record.

After not homering in his first nine games of the season, Maldonado blasted his first career homer in last Wednesday’s contest against the Quakes. He then homered twice on Thursday for the Giants’ first multi-homer game of the year. After taking Friday off, Maldonado returned to action on Saturday with another long ball. He then capped the series with a two-homer game on Sunday. Over the final four games in Rancho, Maldonado was 10-for-17 (.588 AVG) with two doubles, six home runs and 10 RBI’s. His six homers overall this season are leading the California League.

WE LIKE THE LONG BALL: The Giants hit a whopping 14 home runs during last week’s six-game series at Rancho Cucamonga. Individually, San Jose boasts several players on the California League home run leaderboard this season — Cam Maldonado (1st, 6 HR), Rod Barajas Jr. (T2nd, 4 HR), Jhonny Level (T2nd, 4 HR), Damian Bravo (T6th, 3 HR) and Jeremiah Jenkins (T6th, 3 HR). The Giants enter this week having hit 23 home runs as a team in their first 15 games. Only this week’s opponent, Ontario, has hit more home runs in the league with 25 round-trippers.

HOME SWEET HOME: The Giants are off to a 5–1 start at home this season following a dominant 2025 campaign at Excite Ballpark in which the club finished with a 47–21 (.691) record in the South Bay (including the playoffs). CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES REMATCH…SORT OF: This week’s matchup between the Giants and Quakes serves as a de facto rematch of last September’s Championship Series after the Angels switched their affiliation from Inland Empire to Rancho Cucamonga prior to this season. 14 of the 29 players currently with San Jose were on the Championship Series roster last year when the Giants swept the 66ers to take home the title. Keyner Martinez, who is scheduled to start Tuesday’s series opener versus the Quakes, was San Jose’s starting pitcher in Game 1. He pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed three runs with three strikeouts in the postseason contest. Ricardo Estrada, who starts Sunday’s series finale this week, was the winning pitcher out of the bullpen in Game 1 — a 7–3 Giants victory. Current Giant position players Jhonny Level, Lorenzo Meola and Cam Maldonado all played in the championship-clinching Game 2. Inland Empire’s two starting pitchers in the Championship Series — Dylan Jordan and Trey Gregory-Alford — are both scheduled to start games against the Giants this week (Friday and Saturday respectively).

Jeremiah Jenkins hit his first two home runs of the season last week against Visalia and is batting .400 overall (8-for-20). SERIES WIN IN STOCKTON: The Giants opened the regular season last week by winning two out of three games in Stockton. San Jose’s 12–8 victory on opening night was the club’s first win in a season opener since 2019. The Giants scored a total of 29 runs during the three-game set last week, including a 15-run outburst in the series finale last Saturday. San Jose hit an impressive .295 as a team, connected for four home runs and was 7-for-8 in stolen base attempts during the series. The Giants’ top hitters individually in the season-opening series included Jhonny Level (.538 AVG, 7-for-13, 2B, HR, 4 RBI, 2 SB), Hayden Jatczak (.500 AVG, 4-for-8, 2B, 3B, HR, 5 RBI, 7 BB, .733 OBP) and Rod Barajas Jr. (.455 AVG. 5-for-11, 3 2B, HR, 7 RBI). On the mound, Giants starting pitchers fashioned a 3.38 ERA in the three games, however the bullpen struggled to a 7.63 ERA with 13 walks in 15 1/3 innings. Dating back to last June, San Jose is 16–2 in their last 18 games versus Stockton.

He hit .288 with nine home runs, 38 RBI’s and 17 stolen bases in 58 games for the ACL Giants before a late-season promotion to San Jose (.236 AVG, 3 HR in 31 games with the Giants). Level is the youngest player on San Jose’s opening day roster. Other top 30 prospects beginning the year in San Jose include pitchers Keyner Martinez (#11) and Argenis Cayama (#13) along with infielder Lorenzo Meola (#19). The Giants swept the Inland Empire 66ers two-games-to-none in the best-of-three Championship Series to complete a perfect run through the playoffs and win their eighth title in team history. San Jose opened the series with a 7–3 Game 1 victory at Excite Ballpark before securing the championship on the road following a 4–2 win in Game 2 down in San Bernardino.

The Giants posted a league-best 81–51 record during the regular season and then went undefeated in the playoffs with back-to-back sweeps of Fresno in the Division Series and Inland Empire in the Championship Series. It’s also San Jose’s second league title in the last five years (2021).

Both games of the Championship Series saw the Giants use decisive sixth-inning rallies and dominant work from the bullpen to secure victories. The series opened with San Jose’s final home game of the season and a pitcher’s duel between the Giants’ Keyner Martinez and Inland Empire’s Dylan Jordan. Martinez began his start by retiring 11 straight Sixers hitters before a two-out run in the top of the fourth gave Inland Empire a 1–0 lead. The Giants, meanwhile, had been held off the board until the bottom of the fourth as a single from Trevor Cohen and a pair of walks to Diego Cartaya and Walker Martin loaded the bases with two down. Then with Cam Maldonado at the plate, an errant pick-off throw down the right field line from 66ers catcher Marlon Quintero allowed both Cohen and Cartaya to score for a 2–1 Giants advantage.

Martinez maintained the lead with a scoreless top of the fifth, but a two-run home run from Inland Empire star center fielder Raudi Rodriguez in the sixth inning put the 66ers back ahead at 3–2. Martinez finished his start surrendering three runs over 5 1/3 innings with three strikeouts.

San Jose though immediately answered with a two-run home run of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning. Cohen led off the frame with a single and then with one down, Cartaya stepped to the plate and launched a towering two-run homer to left. The home run was Cartaya’s first hit of the playoffs and it put the Giants in the lead at 4–3.

San Jose would then add-on in the seventh and eighth innings to increase their advantage. In the bottom of the seventh, Jhonny Level singled, stole two bases and scored on Cohen’s two-out single to make it 5–3. Cohen would finish the night 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Then in the eighth, three straight one-out singles from Martin, Maldonado and pinch-hitter Jose Astudillo produced another run. Moments later, a wild pitch brought in Maldonado for a 7–3 cushion.

Ricardo Estrada earned the win out of the Giants bullpen after tossing 1 2/3 scoreless innings. With the lead at a single run, Estrada pitched around a leadoff double in the top of the seventh to maintain the San Jose advantage. Closer Cade Vernon then fired two perfect innings to finish the game notching the Game 1 victory.

Needing just one more win to take home the title, the Giants traveled to Southern California and San Manuel Stadium in San Bernardino for Game 2 of the series. Luis De La Torre was San Jose’s starting pitcher and yielded a single run in the bottom of the first on a two-out RBI single before firing back-to-back scoreless frames in the second and third. The Giants then tied the game in the top of the fourth when Lisbel Diaz blasted a one-out triple off the left center field wall and scored a batter later when Cartaya grounded an RBI single into left. The Sixers, however, quickly responded in the bottom of the inning with a run of their own to take back the lead at 2–1.

De La Torre pitched four innings in his start allowing two runs with five strikeouts.

Hunter Dryden, who shined in Game 1 of the Division Series out of the bullpen, relieved De La Torre to begin the bottom of the fifth and promptly struck out two in a perfect inning to keep the deficit at a run. The Giants then pushed across three runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead for good.

Three straight walks to Lorenzo Meola, Cohen and Diaz to start the pivotal sixth inning loaded the bases with none out. Cartaya then added to his Championship Series RBI total with a single into shallow right plating Meola to tie the game 2–2 as the bases remained loaded. Martin was up next and he worked a full-count walk scoring Cohen to give San Jose their first lead. A Maldonado line drive single to right then brought home Diaz for a 4–2 advantage.

The four runs scored would prove to be enough for the Giants in Game 2 as Dryden continued his dazzling postseason. The right-hander, who was exclusively a starting pitcher during the regular season (2.90 ERA in 21 starts), fired a quick 1–2–3 bottom of the sixth to preserve the two-run lead. The 66ers collected a leadoff single in the seventh, but Dryden responded by setting down the next three hitters on only seven pitches. In the eighth, there was another leadoff single, but the Inland Empire runner, Harold Coll, was later thrown out at second attempting to steal as part of another scoreless inning.

Dryden returned to the mound in the bottom of the ninth with the score still at 4–2 as the Giants needed only three more outs for the championship. A one-pitch out on a fly ball to right off the bat of Kevin Bruggeman started the inning before Quintero bounced out to Martin at third for the second out. Johan Macias kept Inland Empire in the game with a single to left, which brought the potential tying run to the plate. San Jose manager Ydwin Villegas would then summon Vernon from the bullpen to face Caleb Ketchup, who hit a soaring fly ball to deep left center that was caught by Diaz on the warning track to end the game and spark a Giants championship celebration.

Dryden was the winning pitcher in the clinching victory after tossing 4 2/3 scoreless innings with three hits allowed, no walks and three strikeouts. In his two postseason relief appearances, Dryden did not allow a run in 8 2/3 innings and struck out 13. Vernon collected the save in both Championship Series wins and had three saves total in the Giants’ four playoff games.

REGULAR SEASON REVIEW: The Giants finished the regular season with a league-best 81–51 record and qualified for the playoffs after winning the first half North Division title. The 81 regular season wins were the most by a Giants team since 2013 (83–57). San Jose was 24 games above .500 at home this season (45–21) and six games above .500 on the road (36–30). The Giants went 42–24 in the first half and won the division by four games over Modesto. After starting the year 21–19, San Jose won 21 of their final 26 games in the first half to claim the division crown and clinch a playoff berth. The Giants’ 39–27 second half record put them two games behind Fresno for the top spot in the North Division. San Jose had a remarkable nearly three-month stretch from May 21 through August 17 in which they posted a 54–20 record (.730) and lost just one out of 14 series’. The Giants, however, did struggle late in the regular season going just 6–12 in their final 18 games.

LEAGUE LEADERS: The Giants led the California League in several key statistical categories during the regular season, including runs scored (6.1 per game), batting average (.261), home runs (101 — tied), ERA (3.50) and fewest home runs allowed (50). San Jose’s run differential of +251 also led the league by a significant margin (Rancho Cucamonga next-closest at +89). The Giants had the best overall record among all 30 Single-A teams this season (California League, Carolina League, Florida State League).

FAMILIAR FOE: The Giants and Grizzlies met 24 times during the regular season with San Jose holding a slight 13–11 head-to-head advantage. San Jose went 9–3 against Fresno during the first half on their way to the division title, but were just 4–8 versus the Grizzlies in the second half. Fresno won five of six games at Excite Ballpark from August 19–24 during the final meeting of the regular season between the two teams.

PLAYOFF HISTORY: The Giants are in the playoffs for a sixth consecutive season (2019, 2021–25) — the longest active streak in the California League. Since 2004, the Giants have reached the playoffs an impressive 18 times out of 21 seasons. San Jose last won a league championship in 2021 when they swept Fresno in the best-of-five Championship Series. However, the Giants have not won a playoff game since their 2021 championship clinching victory. San Jose has been swept two-games-to-none in the last three North Division Series’ (2022 by Fresno, 2023 and 2024 by Modesto). Since their inception in 1988, the San Jose Giants have won seven league championships (1998, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2021).

DE LA TORRE GETS GAME 1 NOD, BRESNAHAN IN GAME 2: Luis De La Torre is the Giants’ scheduled starting pitcher for Game 1 of the Division Series on Tuesday night. De La Torre excelled with the Giants after joining the team on July 6 from the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. In eight starts for San Jose during the regular season, De La Torre fashioned a 1.77 ERA with 47 strikeouts and only 11 walks over 35 2/3 innings. He also limited the opposition to a .173 batting average. De La Torre allowed no earned runs in five of his eight starts. Jacob Bresnahan, a Pitcher of the Year candidate in the California League this season, will get the ball in Game 2 on Thursday night at Excite Ballpark. Bresnahan spent the entire season with San Jose and posted a 2.61 ERA over 22 starts. He struck out 124 batters in 93 innings and had a stellar .201 opponents batting average. Bresnahan ranked first in the league in wins (9) and third in strikeouts. From June 1 through the end of the regular season, Bresnahan was 9–1 with a 1.62 ERA over 13 starts. Giants starting pitchers owned a league-best 3.03 ERA during the regular season (Rancho Cucamonga next at 3.74).

HITTING NOTES: The Giants set a team record this season by averaging 6.1 runs per game (previous record was 5.9 runs/game held by the 2021 championship team). San Jose though scored only 3.8 runs per contest over their final 18 games of the regular season. Standouts among players who spent the entire season with the Giants included Lisbel Diaz, who led the Cal League in hits (139) and doubles (32) this year while also ranking third in RBI’s (72). Diaz hit .304 with seven home runs in the second half (62 games) after batting only .234 with three homers in the first half (60 games). Walker Martin was fifth in the league in RBI’s (70) and sixth in home runs (12) while Robert Hipwell finished third in doubles (28), sixth in RBI’s (66) and eighth in home runs (11) to go with the fourth-best OPS among qualifying hitters (.824). Among recent additions to the club, 2025 third round pick Trevor Cohen batted .327 with a .438 on-base percentage in 28 games played for the Giants. 2025 fourth round selection Lorenzo Meola hit .400 over his final seven regular season games with two home runs in 30 at-bats. 18-year old shortstop Jhonny Level was named the top prospect in the Arizona Complex League this season and batted .236 with three home runs in 31 games for the Giants after a promotion on July 31. San Jose also added catcher Diego Cartaya during the final week of the regular season. GIANTS HOST GRIZZLIES THIS WEEK: The San Jose Giants are back at home this week for a six-game series against the Fresno Grizzlies (Rockies affiliate) at Excite Ballpark.

PLAYOFF PREVIEW?: This week’s matchup could serve as a preview of next month’s North Division playoff series. The Giants have already clinched a playoff spot after winning the first half North Division title back in June. Meanwhile, Fresno is currently leading the second half North Division playoff race and enters the week with a six-game lead over Modesto. There are three weeks remaining in the regular season. The Giants and Grizzlies last met in the postseason in 2022 when Fresno swept San Jose in the North Division Series. The Giants have a 12–6 record against the Grizzlies this season, including a 5–1 mark at Excite Ballpark.

STACKING SERIES WINS: The Giants won another series last week when they took four of six games in Lake Elsinore. The Giants finished the series with three straight victories scoring a combined 31 runs in the three contests. LEAGUE LEADERS: At the start of the week, the Giants are leading the California League in several key statistical categories, including runs scored (6.5 per game), batting average (.265), home runs (92), OPS (.772), ERA (3.40) and fewest home runs allowed (39 HR). San Jose’s run differential of +266 is also tops in the league (Rancho Cucamonga next at +119).

SECOND HALF STANDOUTS: Despite a flurry of recent promotions and injuries, the Giants have remained an offensive force in the second half averaging 6.9 runs per game (6.3 runs/game in first half). Individual leaders in the second half for the Giants include Lisbel Diaz, who is hitting .313 with six home runs and an .848 OPS (.234 AVG, 3 HR in first half). Diaz now leads the California League in hits (122) and doubles (30). Walker Martin is batting at a .288 clip with an .834 OPS in the second half after hitting .218 in the first half. Martin ranks fourth in the league in home runs (12) and RBI’s (67) this season. Robert Hipwell owns a sizzling .940 OPS in the second half with a .272 AVG and five home runs (.238 AVG in first half). Jeremiah Jenkins, who joined the Giants on June 13, is hitting .294 since the All-Star break with 23 RBI’s in 22 games.

RUNS RECORD WITHIN REACH: With three weeks remaining in the regular season, the Giants have an opportunity to break their team record for runs scored that has stood for 37 years. Entering the week, this year’s Giants team has scored 742 runs. That puts the Giants on pace to finish the regular season with 859 runs, which would surpass the team record of 836 runs set in 1988. Of note, the ’88 team played 143 total games — 11 more than the 132 games this year’s team will play.

STARTING STRONG: The Giants starting rotation has been a strength throughout the season. Entering the week, Giants starters own a combined 2.96 ERA — significantly lower than the next-closest team (Rancho Cucamonga 3.78). Rotation standouts include Jacob Bresnahan, who is fourth in the Cal League with 104 strikeouts over 78 2/3 innings to go with a 2.86 ERA and .192 opponents batting average. Since the beginning of June, Bresnahan owns a 1.74 ERA over 10 starts. Hunter Dryden (2.33 ERA, .204 opp. AVG) and Niko Mazza (2.31 ERA, .209 opp. AVG) have also helped anchor the rotation. Dryden has allowed two earned runs or fewer in 16 of his 18 starts while Mazza has given up one or no earned runs in 15 of his 18 starts. Luis De La Torre has excelled since joining the club last month with 33 strikeouts and only four walks in 24 innings to go with a 1.50 ERA (five starts). Additionally, Keyner Martinez has not allowed an earned run in his first 10 2/3 innings with the Giants.

NEW FACES: Since the last week of July, the Giants have added 13 new players to their roster. Seven of the players — infielders Jhonny Level & Dario Reynoso, outfielder Jose Astudillo and pitchers Argenis Cayama, Keyner Martinez, Melvin Pineda & Fernando Vasquez — have come from the Arizona Complex League (Rookie-level) following the conclusion of their season. Pitcher Yunior Marte joined the Giants after he was acquired in a trade from the Kansas City Royals at the deadline. San Jose has also added four players from this year’s draft class, including the top three picks — infielder Gavin Kilen (1st round), outfielder Trevor Cohen (3rd round) and infielder Lorenzo Meola (4th round). Outfielder Cam Maldonado (7th round) and catcher Daniel Rogers (non-drafted free agent) are other newcomers. Kilen has since been placed on the injured list. 10 Giants players have been promoted to High-A Eugene since the start of the second half.

ON DECK: Following the current series against Fresno, the Giants embark on their final road trip of the regular season with a six-game set in Visalia from August 26–31.

A STORM IS BREWING: These two teams previously met from May 6–11 with the Storm winning four of six games against the Giants at Excite Ballpark. The Giants had a lead in the seventh inning or later in all four of the games they lost. That series marked the last time San Jose has lost a six-game series. The Giants are 9–0–3 in their last 12 six-game series’. San Jose did drop two of three games in a brief three-game set to Modesto coming out of the All-Star break last month.

SUCCESSFUL HOMESTAND: The Giants posted a 10–2 record during their season-high 12-game homestand that concluded last Sunday. The Giants swept a six-game series from Stockton to open the homestand outscoring the Ports by a 60–16 margin. San Jose followed that up by taking four of six from Visalia last week. The Giants averaged 8.0 runs per game and hit 15 home runs during the homestand. San Jose is now 41–13 at Excite Ballpark this season.

WINNING WAYS: The Giants enter the week with a 71–37 overall record — the top mark in the California League and the best record among all 30 Single-A teams (California League, Carolina League & Florida State League). BRESNAHAN NAMED PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Jacob Bresnahan was named California League Pitcher of the Week on Monday after a stellar start against Visalia on August 8. Bresnahan fired five shutout innings versus the Rawhide and surrendered only one hit with no walks and eight strikeouts. He retired 15 of the 16 batters he faced. Bresnahan now ranks fourth in the league with 99 strikeouts in 73 2/3 innings to go with a 2.93 ERA and a .189 batting average against. After posting a 5.63 ERA in four April starts, Bresnahan has fashioned a 2.18 ERA in 14 starts since. Bresnahan is the seventh Giants player to win a weekly award this season joining OF Lisbel Diaz (4/28), RHP Niko Mazza (5/12), LHP Charlie McDaniel (5/19), RHP Darien Smith (6/2), INF Jean Carlos Sio (6/30) and INF Robert Hipwell (8/4). Bresnahan also won it previously on June 9 and was named the June California League Pitcher of the Month.

FIRST HALF CHAMPS: The Giants won the first half North Division title back in June and secured a berth in the California League playoffs. San Jose finished the first half with a league-best 42–24 record — four games ahead of the Modesto Nuts (38–28) for the top spot in the North Division. The Giants clinched the division crown on the second-to-last day of the half. It’s the sixth consecutive season (2019, 2021–25) that the Giants have reached the playoffs and the second time in the last three years winning the first half. San Jose was 21–19 and three games behind Modesto in the standings on May 20 before finishing the first half with 21 wins in their last 26 games. The Giants open the playoffs on Tuesday, September 9 with Game 1 of the best-of-three North Division Series.
