It is the morning after an election, and the Arizona Secretary of State's fancy new voting results website is broken.

There aren't many days that large numbers of people care to visit websites like this. Today happens to be one of them. Today, the website fails to fulfill its purpose.

There are no election results to be found.

Google Photos fills up phones

This Samsung phone has 8 gigabytes of internal storage. The system files consume about a third of that space. Preinstalled Google and Microsoft apps take another third. Google Photos keeps gobbling up the remaining storage space until the phone becomes unusable. There is no option to configure Google Photos to put this data on an SD card; it insists on using internal storage memory.

On my Android devices that have more storage space, Google Photos consumes nearly 4 GB of space. This is not the space consumed by my photos on the device. This is space consumed by the Google Photos app data. I assume this is for storing thumbnail and index information for the thousands of photos and videos I have stored in Google Photos.

Boarding Pass

My late night flight was delayed into the next morning.

When midnight came, boarding passes for my delayed flight disappeared from the Southwest Airlines app. Instead of being able to view my boarding position and display a boarding pass, the app only showed flight status.

The app won't show the boarding pass link for flights scheduled on previous days. I and some other passengers had to get paper passes to board the plane. How could Southwest fail to sufficiently consider the case of a flight being delayed into the next day?

This was a known problem to the Southwest gate agent. She printed boarding passes for everyone to be ready to give boarding passes to those of us who were expecting to be able to pull up a boarding pass in the mobile app. However, whatever software feature she used to print boarding passes for the entire flight didn't print the boarding passes in alphabetical order, or any other useful order. This created a need to rifle through nearly 200 boarding passes to find each boarding pass as customers who had intended to use the app requested paper passes.

Don't send promotional emails from the same email address from which you send business transaction emails.

It complicates cleanup of unwanted promotional emails, and leads to accidental deletion of important email that should be kept.
