Real food, no recipe required

And an invitation to age mindfully together.

I had the most satisfying dinner last week. Just a simple plate filled with homemade seed crackers, store-bought herbed hummus, and a handful of strawberries. No stove. No recipe. No shame.

In the past, I might have felt a little sheepish about that. I mean, I've written cookbooks and teach cooking classes. I am, by most definitions, a Food Person. And yet there I was, perfectly content with a plate of things that just sounded really good. And were good for me.

Here's what I've realized: I have completely earned this dinner. And so have you.

I hear a version of this from clients all the time: a quiet, slightly sheepish admission that they don't really "cook" anymore, as if a real meal requires heat, effort, and something simmering on the stove. I hear it especially from people in their 50s, 60s, and 70s, people who spent decades feeding families and entertaining and making elaborate holiday spreads and who now, finally free, find that an hour in the kitchen holds exactly zero appeal.

It's not a failure, friends. It's an evolution.

The goal has never been cook tonight. It's just to eat something that constitutes the elements of a balanced "meal." And yes, you can be nourished even when dinner is leftover white beans drizzled with good olive oil, a pile of chopped leftover veggies, and maybe a few olives on top. It's good for you - and satisfying - even if it took four minutes.

Something new I'm starting

I've been wanting to find my way back to coaching in community. Not through a program or a newsletter or a course, but something smaller. More like a gathering of people who are on a similar path and may benefit from a little guidance.

So I'm starting something called Aging Mindfully. A monthly (-ish) small group of 8 or so folks spending an hour on a call together talking about what it actually looks like to age with intention. With grace, self-compassion, and the audacity to call this chapter the good one.

Judgment-free, it will be a space for real conversation with people who are navigating the same terrain.

I'll be facilitating each session, but honestly, I'm also someone who is figuring this out right alongside you.

First up: girl dinner (and yes, everyone's invited)

Our first session is this Friday, August 7th at noon ET, and we're talking about the no-cook dinner, the beautiful plate of real food that didn't require a recipe, and why we're done apologizing for it.

We'll talk about what nutritionally sound actually looks like when it's simple. We'll share our own no-fuss wins. And we'll give ourselves full permission to call a plate of seed crackers, hummus, and strawberries exactly what it is: a good dinner.
