Al Ahly have officially ended their contract with Mahmoud Trezeguet by mutual agreement, clearing the winger to complete a move to Al Riyadh.

Al Ahly have terminated Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet’s contract by mutual agreement, clearing the Egypt international to complete his expected move to Saudi Pro League club Al Riyadh.

The Cairo giants said the decision followed “amicable discussions and a financial settlement reflecting the exceptional relationship between the player and the club,” without disclosing the terms of the settlement.

Similarly, the 31-year-old later thanked the club’s board and officials for their support and expressed his appreciation to Al Ahly’s supporters.

Al Riyadh have been negotiating with the winger and Al Ahly during the summer transfer window. Earlier reports said the Saudi club wanted to sign him on a two-year contract.

Trezeguet returned to Al Ahly in 2025 after playing in Europe and the Gulf. He had previously come through the club’s academy before leaving Egypt in 2015.

ENPPI and Petrojet will combine their top-flight football operations with El Sharkia SC and Suez SC under new regional identities.

Egypt’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has approved separate partnerships pairing ENPPI with Sharkia SC and Petrojet with Suez SC, creating two companies to operate the clubs’ football divisions, with the petroleum-sector companies retaining operational control.

The agreements will establish sports services companies responsible for management, operations, and commercial investment.

Under the ENPPI-Sharkia structure, ENPPI will own 51% of a company provisionally named ENPPI Best and will retain management control.

Sharkia’s own lower-division licence will be frozen. The new operation will effectively use ENPPI’s Premier League position while adopting a regional base and an identity connected to El Sharkia.

The arrangement, therefore, places ENPPI in the controlling position. Sharkia provides the local identity, stadium, and supporter base, but will remain the minority shareholder.

Sharkia, however, must still secure approval from an extraordinary general assembly scheduled for August 7 to reduce the club’s stake in the football company to 49%. Should the meeting fail to reach a quorum, the club’s board is expected to receive authority to decide.

The Petrojet-Suez agreement follows a similar model. Suez SC president Moataz Selim said the new company would operate under a joint name and play its home matches at Suez Stadium.

Suez has frozen its third-division licence, allowing the combined team to compete in the Premier League through Petrojet’s existing place.

Selim said the company would have a five-member board, with three seats allocated to the company-club side and two to Suez.

That structure also leaves Petrojet as the dominant partner. Suez retains its geographical identity and home stadium but does not control the new football operation.

The announcements said the decision implemented “presidential directives to support historically supported clubs, make greater commercial use of their assets, and improve the financial sustainability of Egyptian football.”

Suez SC had called an extraordinary general assembly earlier this month to discuss establishing a sports-services company. Only 94 of the club’s 4,756 eligible members attended, leaving the meeting without a legal quorum.

Omar Marmoush is reportedly seeking talks with new Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca over his role as clubs monitor the forward.

Omar Marmoush will seek clarity from new Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca over his role at the club amid reported interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.

Marmoush and his representatives want to establish whether he will receive regular playing time under Maresca before deciding on his future.

The 27-year-old remains open to staying at Manchester City if the Italian manager considers him an important part of his plans. His representatives could explore a transfer if the new manager cannot offer him a prominent role.

Manchester City appointed Maresca on a three-year contract last month after Pep Guardiola’s departure. The former Chelsea coach is expected to assess the squad during pre-season.

Marmoush joined City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025. His contract runs until June 2029.

He started eight Premier League matches during the 2025-26 season after falling behind other attacking options during the second half of the campaign.

Marmoush recently represented Egypt at the FIFA World Cup, where the national team reached the round of 16 for the first time. He started the group matches against Belgium and New Zealand and the knockout victory over Australia, but did not start the 3-2 defeat by Argentina.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino said the governing body will consider expanding the 2030 World Cup from 48 to 64 teams.

FIFA will examine a proposal to expand the 2030 World Cup to 64 teams, president Gianni Infantino said, potentially adding another 16 nations to the tournament.

“A 64-team tournament is definitely an issue that will be examined and discussed in the relevant committees after this World Cup,” Infantino said.

Infantino described the 48-team format as a success and argued that broader participation could encourage football development in smaller countries.

The South American Football Confederation had previously proposed a one-off 64-team tournament in 2025 to mark the World Cup’s centenary.

At the time, CONMEBOL president Alejandro Domínguez said the expansion would allow more countries to participate in the anniversary edition, 100 years after Uruguay hosted the inaugural tournament.

The proposal has faced opposition from senior football officials. UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said a 64-team competition would weaken both the World Cup and regional qualifying tournaments.

The 2030 World Cup will be hosted primarily by Morocco, Portugal, and Spain. Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay will each stage one opening match as part of the centenary celebrations.

Under the existing 48-team format, the tournament would feature 104 matches. A 64-team competition would require FIFA to revise the qualification system, tournament structure, and match schedule.

Celtic are reportedly preparing an €8 million offer for Egypt winger Haissem Hassan, although no improved bid has yet been confirmed.

Celtic are expected to return with an improved €8 million offer for Real Oviedo winger Haissem Hassan, according to reports.

The proposed bid, worth about £6.8 million, would be roughly double the value of Celtic’s initial approach for the winger.

The previous offer by Celtic was reportedly about £3.4 million for Hassan. Real Oviedo rejected the proposal and have indicated that they expect interested clubs to meet the player’s release clause, worth about £10 million.

Moreover, reports of interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey have emerged, with clubs from both countries approaching Oviedo for the 24-year-old.

Marseille has also been linked with Hassan. However, no formal offers from any of the interested clubs have been confirmed yet.

Hassan’s value increased following Egypt’s run to the World Cup round of 16. He started against Argentina and assisted Mostafa Zico’s goal during Egypt’s 3-2 defeat.

The France-born winger joined Oviedo from Villarreal in 2024 and is under contract until 2027. Villarreal retain a share of any future transfer fee.

The FIFA disciplinary committee is facing questions over its independence and opaque procedures after suspending Folarin Balogun’s red card.

FIFA’s disciplinary committee has come under renewed scrutiny over its structure and decision-making after it suspended the enforcement of United States striker Folarin Balogun’s one-match ban during the World Cup.

The 18-member body is chaired by Mohammad Al Kamali, an Emirati lawyer and former lawmaker who is permitted to issue decisions alone or delegate that authority to another committee member, the Financial Times reported.

Although the committee includes lawyers and football officials from several countries, its past 110 published decisions were each issued by a single adjudicator.

Balogun received a straight red card during the United States’ round-of-32 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina. The dismissal ordinarily should have triggered an automatic suspension from the next match.

However, the committee kept the disciplinary measure in place but suspended its implementation for a one-year probationary period under Article 27 of FIFA’s disciplinary code. The decision allowed Balogun to face Belgium in the round of 16.

FIFA announced the decision after US President Donald Trump contacted FIFA president Gianni Infantino and asked the governing body to review the red card.

The committee’s opaque procedures had intensified concerns over whether FIFA’s judicial bodies operate independently. Legal experts also questioned whether Article 27 could be used to override a suspension under World Cup regulations.

FIFA’s official description of the committee says decisions should normally involve at least three members, but allows the chairperson to rule alone in special cases. FIFA has not identified who personally decided the Balogun case or published the full reasoning.

Al Kamali said the committee acted independently and described the suspended sanction as a balanced measure permitted by FIFA’s rules. FIFA also said similar disciplinary mechanisms had been used in European football and in the earlier case involving Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo.

UEFA accused FIFA of crossing a “red line,” while the Belgian Football Association said the decision undermined fair play and complained that it had not received sufficient information to challenge the ruling.

The United States lost 4-1 to Belgium despite Balogun’s inclusion and were eliminated from the tournament.

Mamelodi Sundowns and South Africa midfielder Jayden Adams has died aged 25, weeks after making three appearances at the 2026 World Cup.

South Africa and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams has died at the age of 25, the South African Football Players Union (SAFPU) confirmed on Saturday.

In its statement, SAFPU said Adams’s death is an “immeasurable loss” to his family, teammates, clubs, and South African football.

Jayden Adams had just returned from the 2026 World Cup after helping South Africa reach the knockout stage for the first time.

He made three appearances during the group stage, starting the 2-0 defeat by Mexico and the 1-1 draw with Czechia. He later came on as a substitute in the 1-0 win over South Korea, which secured qualification.

The midfielder has previously started both legs of Sundowns’ CAF Champions League semi-final against Al Ahly. The teams drew 0-0 in Pretoria and 1-1 in Cairo, sending Sundowns through on away goals.

Adams then appeared in both legs of the final against Pyramids. He came on during the first leg, which ended 1-1, and started the return match in Cairo, where Pyramids won 2-1 to claim the title 3-2 on aggregate.

Jayden Adams earned nine senior caps for South Africa and scored twice after making his international debut in 2022.

Marseille have reportedly joined the race to sign Egypt winger Haissem Hassan after Real Oviedo rejected an opening offer from Celtic.

The Scottish giants submitted a bid worth about €4 million, or £3.4 million, for the 24-year-old following his performances at the World Cup.

Oviedo rejected the approach and are referring interested clubs to Hassan’s €12 million release clause. The clause had previously been set at €18 million, but fell in value after the Spanish club’s relegation from La Liga.

Oviedo sporting director David Fernandez said the club would retain control over any departure. Fernandez made the comments during his presentation as sporting director amid reports linking the Egyptian winger with Celtic and other European clubs.

Marseille are monitoring the winger’s position, according to French reports, while clubs in England and Saudi Arabia have also been linked with a move.

Hassan’s transfer value increased after Egypt’s run to the World Cup round of 16. He started the 3-2 defeat by Argentina and assisted Mostafa Zico’s second goal after a counterattack led by Mohamed Salah.

The France-born winger joined Oviedo from Villarreal in 2024 and is under contract until 2027. Villarreal are entitled to 40% of a future transfer, according to Spanish reports.

Zamalek defender Hossam Abdelmaguid has agreed to join Bulgarian club Ludogorets on a three-year contract after his departure was approved.

Zamalek defender Hossam Abdelmaguid has agreed to join Bulgarian club Ludogorets on a three-year contract, his agent and brother, Islam Abdelmaguid, said on Friday.

Islam Abdelmaguid said the 25-year-old had completed negotiations with Ludogorets after Zamalek approved his departure and would join the Bulgarian side for the new season.

The two clubs have reportedly agreed on a transfer fee of €1.5 million.

The agreement includes a further €250,000 payment linked to Ludogorets’ participation in European competition and €300,000 if the club reaches the UEFA Champions League.

Zamalek will also receive 20% of the profit from a future sale if Ludogorets sell Abdelmaguid for more than €4 million.

However, neither Zamalek nor Ludogorets had formally announced the transfer yet.

The defender had previously rejected interest from Gulf clubs because he preferred to continue his career in Europe.

Abdelmaguid came through Zamalek’s academy and made his first-team debut in 2020. He helped the club win two Egyptian Premier League titles, two Egypt Cups, the CAF Confederation Cup, and the CAF Super Cup.

He was also part of the Egypt squad at the World Cup, scoring the winning penalty against Australia in the round of 32, taking them to the round of 16, the country’s deepest run in the tournament.

Celtic have reportedly contacted Al Ahly to explore a potential £4 million move for Egyptian midfielder Emam Ashour.

Celtic have made initial enquiries over a possible transfer for Al Ahly and Egypt midfielder Emam Ashour, according to Scottish reports.

The Scottish champions contacted Al Ahly and Ashour’s representatives to establish the financial conditions of a possible deal.

The report said Celtic believe a deal could be completed for about £4 million, with Ashour’s wage demands considered affordable. Al Ahly have the midfielder under contract until 2028 and remain in a strong negotiating position.

Celtic view the 28-year-old as a midfielder capable of operating as a number eight or providing defensive cover. Ashour is now the second Egyptian to be linked with the club, after reports emerged a few days ago of a bid for Haissem Hassan.

Ashour scored twice during Egypt’s run to the World Cup round of 16. He opened the scoring in the group-stage draw with Belgium and also scored against Australia in the round of 32.

His goal against Belgium earned him the player-of-the-match award.

Ashour previously played in Europe with Danish club Midtjylland before joining Al Ahly in 2023. He helped the Cairo club win the 2024 CAF Champions League and finished as the Egyptian Premier League’s leading scorer in the 2024-25 season.
