Elder Chris explains that we are to be observant of those who have departed from Biblical teaching. The Apostle Paul instructs us to admonish twice and then separate. Elder Chris encourages us to be like Abram, who lived as a stranger in this land, looking to eternal things rather than temporal ones.

Paul also cautions us not to love material things, but to be content with what we have, because that mindset can hinder our love for people. We should remember God’s love for us, which is a dedicated, committed, and purposeful love that can never cease.

We can rest in the fact that God made a promise and covenant with Himself concerning the eternal destiny of His saints. This truth should shape the way we walk, behave, and speak, living godly lives and looking toward the hope of eternal life in Jesus Christ.

But we can rejoice in the doctrine of free and sovereign grace, accomplished by the Lord Jesus Christ. Psalms describe Zion as a place of peace, joy, and perfect beauty—a place where Jesus reigns as the mediator of the new covenant between God and man. Let us have grace here, serving God according to the acceptable New Testament pattern, where Jesus shines upon us.

The Apostle Paul uses the account of Esau to teach an important lesson about our service. Esau sold his birthright for a single morsel of meat and was afterward denied his father’s blessing—losses he could not recover. He cautions not to drift in our Christian walk, allowing sinful influences to take root in our lives. Jesus Christ taught that the kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field, worth selling everything to obtain. Elder Chris explains that the field is the kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ and the knowledge of sovereign grace. He encourages us to remember that when we possess something of immense worth, we must not be as Esau, who sold everything for something worthless.

He explains that an ensample is like a deeply carved die that leaves an imprint or impression on others. Paul preached Jesus, and the people became followers with joy of the Holy Ghost, even in the face of affliction from those who did not believe. Brother Paul encourages us not only to give thanks to one another for encouragement, but also to thank the Lord for our church as we wait for Christ’s return. This expectation helps us endure trials and tribulations, knowing we have a home in Heaven, and makes Godly impressions on others.

Elder Chris turns to Exodus and the account at the Red Sea, where the children of Israel found themselves trapped— the sea before them and 600 chariots of skilled warriors behind them. Moses told them to fear not, to stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, assuring them that He would deliver them. They were called to hold their peace and trust that God would provide in a miraculous way. He then points to Joshua, where Israel faces its first battle. As Joshua goes out to pray, he encounters the Lord Jesus Christ, the Captain of the Lord’s host, who gives him the battle plan. Though it seemed unusual, they were instructed to march around the city six times, and on the seventh day to blow the trumpets, at which point the walls would fall. Israel obeyed, and the city was conquered. Elder Chris explains that we may not always understand how the Lord removes obstacles from our path, but we are called to trust in Him, knowing He will provide.

Elder Chris reminds us that there is a race set before us, and along the way we will face hurdles. Jesus Himself faced constant opposition, yet He never stopped. In the same way, when we meditate on that truth, we are strengthened so that we do not grow weary or faint. The Apostle Paul teaches that the child of God will encounter difficulties, but our trials have not yet reached the point of bloodshed. Even so, that is no reason to give up. Our race is not finished until we receive our honorable discharge—our final breath. Elder Chris encourages us to always be mindful that trouble will arise, consider the Rock, and not complain about our lot in life.

Elder Chris teaches that the Lord is always able and is fully capable of caring for us as well. He encourages us to trust not only in His ability, but also in His willingness.

Elder Chris turns to John 14 where the disciples were troubled as Christ’s hour was at hand. He told them to fear not, He was going to prepare a place for them. When Thomas didn’t understand where He was going or the way, Christ explained that He is the way, the truth, and the life. Elder Chris teaches that there is only one way to God—the mediator between God and men, Jesus Christ—who has reconciled our separation from Him. Though many perspectives exist, there is only one unchanging truth, not something that shifts with time or opinion. As believers, we are called not to compromise that truth, but to hold it firmly with love and humility. Outside of the Lord, there is no life; He is the giver, sustainer, and sovereign ruler over all. Even when we were not seeking Him, He graciously sought and found us. It is vital to understand that He exists eternally of Himself, possessing all power and all knowledge. In this, we find great comfort, knowing that His promises are sure and that we can fully rely on Him.

Elder Chris teaches that God has placed something deep within us that testifies to the truth of His Word. We are blessed in our time to see the promise of Christ revealed, to have God’s written Word, and to look with confidence toward what He will yet do.
