The Kong Extreme is an incredibly durable rubber toy that my dog can’t tear up and swallow - and it was crucial in crate-training her, as well as controlling her separation anxiety. Every day before I leave, I swab some peanut butter in the top, drop a few treats in, and plug the head with a slice of carrot. (During the summer, I prep a few ahead of time and pop them in the freezer.) Then I give her the Kong — and instead of focusing on the fact that I’m not there, she goes to town on the Kong. My wife and I immediately saw a drop-off in anxiety-related behaviors, like getting into the trash or chewing on furniture. She hasn’t done anything for years.

There is a range of daycare facilities, Vets and groomers offer day boarding, as do well-known pet stores, retailers, and open-space facilities. There are even people or a family member offering their daycare from their homes.
Use our daycare locating tool to find the perfect facility near you.
Talking with various employees about their experience and day-to-day interactions will give you the best idea of how well a facility handles the pets in their care.
A place where you can leave your pooch when you're at work where they can play and burn energy? Who could ask for more? One of the greatest pet inventions after sliced bread.
Daycare facilities have been appearing all over the country during the past several years, and they are becoming more popular. Owners find them to be the quick answer to keeping their dogs healthy and exercised when they are too busy to do it.
With all the centers out there asking for your dog, how do you know which one to choose? Can you trust a daycare center and their trained staff to take great care of your dog, keeping them safe and happy while they are interacting with other dogs?
The best way to find out about trustworthy daycare facilities in your area is through personal referrals. Use social media to do research; if you have a lot of local Twitter or Facebook associates, post a question asking for encounters with the daycare facilities in your area. Ask people you know if they have ever taken their dogs to a daycare center.
When visiting a prospective daycare center, please pay attention to the number of playgroups it has, as well as how many staffers there are in each one. The groups divided by size and personality, and the staff to dog ratio should be about 1:10, depending on the group.
Thanks to social media, you can find questions and reviews on just about everything, including doggie daycares. If you look on Google, for instance, you'll get a good idea of what kinds of encounters other dog owners have had with a particular care facility.
Visit the daycare and ask some questions regarding the day care services provided. Is there a fee for picking up a dog late? What are their operating hours? Is there a discounted rate for multiple dogs?
Is there a discounted monthly or yearly membership available? Do they require up-to-date vaccinations? Make sure that you are satisfied with all of the methods and can adhere to them. If not, take your dog somewhere else.
Grooming or other spa services available.
A swimming area.
Outside dog run.
Agility course.
Dog training or obedience classes provided.
It's nice to choose a special place that has some extra amenities, even if they are not "needed."
Does the facility work with a nearby pet hospital or veterinarian? If so, ask for the contact information of the facilities to ask about the daycare's accidents. Realize that illnesses and accidents do happen, but there shouldn't be an unusually high number of them.
Is the facility equipped with an onsite vet, daycares and boarding facilities should use a nearby pet hospital or veterinarian. If the doggy day care hesitates and doesn't want to provide this information move onto the next one, they are hiding something.
Can the staff provide meals or medication is an essential but sometimes overlooked question? Do you get the idea that if there is a problem, the team would know how to handle it? Are they friendly and well trained?
Ask for a tour of the facility. Are there any doggie smells, aside from what you might expect in a pet place? Is it clean? Ask to see where your pooch will sleep and play.
You should have access to all areas of the facility beside the back offices. If there's an area that they won't let you tour, go elsewhere.
Ask to speak with a few referrals or regular customers to get their impressions of the facility. Most daycares will have customers that are available and used to getting phone calls—and people love to chat about their pups!
Is the facility safe and secure? Is there any way for dogs to run away or get stolen?
Does the place look like your pet will have fun? Imagine that you're sending your child to summer camp away from you, wouldn't you want the experience to be excellent?
Many daycares have an admission process that involves a questionnaire and an evaluation of the dog. The surveys and assessment of the dog aren't to try to eliminate your dog. Care in an open facility with other dogs isn't for every canine, and the daycare has to make sure that Tilly will play nicely with others.
]]>It keeps their weight down, their muscle toned up. It keeps your dog social. So what are you waiting for let's get going?
We highly recommend an ID or name tag with your pets contact information engraved on it. Include the dog's name, phone, and address at a minimum. Some ID tags allow for more information, including your name and a new phone number can’t hurt. A pet collar and sturdy leash for non-enclosed “leash dog parks.”
Finding your local dog park is as easy as clicking the link: “Dog Parks Near Me,” finding the right one is always the hard part. There are many sites on the web for people parks, just not so much for our furry friends.
Dog Parks Should Have These Standard Amenities
Garbage cans and doggie bags for cleaning up after dogs are essential for basic good health for both dogs and humans. Many canine diseases spread through feces, and feces attract insects which can spread the virus to humans. Remember the old guy yelling at you to clean up after your dog; this is a demonstration of good citizenship we all should practice.
Parks with a two-gate system are something you should look for; this system helps avoid the possibility of dogs escaping from the park, the second gate also increases the safety of all the dogs.
There should be a pleasant shady area where dogs can lay down, cool themselves, and rest before continuing their active play. Dogs must often drink to cool themselves; dogs can’t cool themselves as efficiently as humans. Dogs play very strenuously in dog parks. Water is an absolute necessity; if there is no water available, it is possible that dogs may suffer from extreme heat stroke, which can be fatal.
Get some elbow room to avoid crowding. If dogs become too grouped up, it is much easier for a “bad dog” or a pack of evil dogs to corner and harass other dogs. Fights break out more often under overcrowded conditions.
Exceptional Park Features
Round fences help to prevent mean dogs from bullying or attacking dogs compared to barriers which have 90-degree angles; these corners allow dogs to corner other dogs. Fencing without a 90-degree perspective makes it easier for a dog to escape the bullying or attack.
Several entrances and exit gates if the park is fenced - If there are one entrance and exit gate, or one door and one exit gate, the dogs in the enclosure quickly learn where newcomers enter. Dogs assemble at the one entrance, which can result in dogs escaping or fighting on the way in, targetting a particular gate if there are several entrances.
A separate enclosed area for small dogs, under 20 lbs is ideal. It can be very treacherous to take a little dog to a park frequented by large dogs. The big dog may not mean to hurt the smaller dogs, but they can play too rough, or they may see the little dog as a prey animal and pick it up and shake it, which can be fatal.
Great dog parks have enclosed areas specifically for small dogs. The new enclosure keeps them safe, yet still allows them to socialize, which is especially important for smaller dogs.
Fun stuff (agility equipment, pools, and more) A park that provides material for dogs to practice their fundamental skills is exceptional. Having some essential agility equipment and exercise equipment is a fun way for dogs and owners to interact together. It also shows signs of a good dog park by providing its users what they seek to enhance their experience.
A pet park is either the perfect place to socialize and exercise your dog, or the best place to traumatize your dog. That perception is a reality, but these two perceptions are worlds apart. Which one is right?
They both are. Your local dog park can be a terrific place to take your dog, throw a tennis ball around and play catch, provided it is well-constructed, well-maintained, and well-monitored. It can also be you and your dog’s worst nightmare.
What determines which perception is your reality?
The bummer reality is that fenced dog parks are not the oasis; most people think they are. However, they can be. Here are the most common mistakes people get wrong, so you can avoid repeating.
A dog or pet owners number one priority at any park is a dog or pet, not a conversation with other pet owners. Think of it like taking a baby to a beach, putting them in the water with other children, and then turning your back on them to chat with other parents - not a good idea.
Too many people let loose in dog areas if their dog is in a fenced park and then have a friendly chat with other dog owners. Unless you have eyes on the back of your head, your chatting, and not watching, you can take your pet to a leash area for a conversation. Dog parks are for dogs; social media is for chit chat or a coffee shop.
You are not picking up after a dog.
Let's start with something simple like sanitation. First, it's merely good manners to scoop up after your dog. It's gross to walk into a park full of dog poop mines everywhere and worse; it's awful for your pets.
There are a lot of viruses, bacteria, and parasites living in dog waste that other dogs can contract when they eat it, roll in or even touch. Gross any way you look at it. So let's avoid the spread and follow this simple etiquette rule. Bringing extra poop bags for other owners gives you some props.
Be part of your fur babies life, put the phone down.
Don’t be playing a round of Fortnite while your pooch manages to steal someone’s purse right off their shoulder and then does a victory circle around the park, keeping their prize in its slobbering mouth out of reach. That’s an offense worthy of some significant dog-house time for humans.
Your dog doesn’t have to have an obedience school diploma to do well at the park, as long as he knows the most basic command - “come.” Remember the story about putting the kids in the water with other kids to play all alone, same goes for dogs in heat, don’t bring them. Sorry, not spayed or neutered, your pet and others are at risk.
Owners should oversee their dogs at the park (instead of looking at their cellphones), so they can break up play frequently, calling their dogs back for a quick check-in. A game that has lots of breaks does not result in dog fights, as situations de-escalate this way.
I am bringing puppies less than three months old or unvaccinated.
There are many parasites, bugs, and diseases in a dog park to begin with - I spared you the details, it just makes you shudder. Older puppies and adult immunized dogs can mostly handle the grossness, and will maybe only pick up worms which, as an adult with a healthy immune system, they can easily survive with treatment.
However, for new pups that haven't completed their vaccines, they could pick up something like worse that their little bodies have a difficult time handling or preparing. Puppies under 12 weeks, not immunized against common diseases need to be kept well away from dog parks.
Thinking all dog parks are the same.
Well-designed parks have a double entrance with two gates. Don't run through both gates at once. First, enter the gate with your dog on a leash, then pause to look around.
A short pause allows other excited dogs to get used to yours. This slight pause helps other dogs not go hyper when your dog does come in.
Most problems are easily avoidable with simple manners. A little extra caution on your part is beneficial. However, don't go to the park if your furry baby:
You need to show your dog you are the alpha animal all the time. That’s key when other dogs are around. Teach your buddy to come to you when called.
Make up a word your pooch is not likely to hear at the park. Reward him with extra-special treats during training.
Be a lover, not a fighter.
It was once your puppy phase at a dog park. Not everybody knows their way around the facilities. If you see someone looking a little confused, show them the ropes! Your pooch may be sporting the latest dog clothes fashions and can skateboard, great for you, but not everyone has Spuds MacKenzie as a pet.
Shop your favorite college team or sports team pet clothes and accessories.
Newbie alert: if you see someone not following the specific rules of the run, assume maybe they don’t know they’re doing wrong.
At the park, pay attention to your dog's behavior and his playmate’s body language to make sure they’re not showing signs of anxiety. Enjoyable, relaxed play is relatively easy for dog owners to spot. One dog may let out a bark, if things get a little too rough, or give their playmate a signal to provide them with space. If you notice things getting chaotic, immediately defuse the situation and take a walk with your dog.
Animal injuries are possible even worse, please if your dog is aggressive, train it not to be or bring it to obedience school before attempting to go to a dog park with other friendly dogs.
Pet owners should make sure they have a dog collar on with tags. Bring poop bags and water, as your puppy gets thirsty after playing at the park. For the dog owner, it’s a good idea to dress comfortably and wear closed-toed shoes - you (and your dog) can work up a sweat playing fetch!

]]>Use a traditional leash that is nonretractable for your dog walks. Bring an ample supply of water and ALWAYS, please pick up after your dogs, no one likes getting poop on their shoes. Now that you know the basics lets dive deeper into how do you walk a dog.
Dog walks are essential for the proper growth of your pooch. Walking on a leash teaches your dog you are in charge, do not harshly use a rope, we will explain better ways for training your dog. You should walk your dog at least once every day; we should at least shoot for every other day if every day is not possible. Remember you are getting the same exercise as your dog, so why not.
Hydration, Water and a Healthy Dog
Before even thinking of going for a walk, water should be the first thing on your mind. Carry plenty of water and food. Along with poop bags, carry a portable bowl and a bottle of water for your pet. Keeping your dog hydrated is essential when walking for more extended periods or during the hotter times of the day.
During the summer months, it is extra important that your dog has plenty of water. Your pets hydration is the essential part of dog walking that some people often overlook.
Food to Keep Your Dog Focused
Your dog learns by repetition, providing a treat or a particular food after or during your walk will trigger a memory in your pet's brain telling them, if I do this I will get that special treat. Dogs with behavior problems will take more training and attention. If you can teach your dog to sit, loose leash walking will be no problem.
Protect Your Pooch's Paws Properly
Say that three times fast, I know you did. Your pet doesn't enjoy wearing the latest Nikes or Converse on those hot days. Do you want to know if the pavement is too hot for your dog? Place the back of your hand or barefoot on the asphalt for a couple of seconds. If it’s too hot for your skin, it’s too hot for your dogs' feet.
Warning! Hot Pavement Can Cause Burns | disclosure. We just added that in case you did not know you can burn yourself on the hot pavement. Be careful is the lesson here.
Use a Dog Harness, and Never a Choker
Introduce him to the collar or harness and leash. Dog leashes come in all kinds of designs, colors, and lengths, make sure to use a size chart to get the size for your dog. Teach a cue. Make him come to you. If your dog starts pulling in the other direction, turn yourself into “a statue.”
Do not give into your dog, or he or she will continue to draw you around and never learn to walk in the future appropriately. A statue doesn't move, so when your dog pulls, stand firm.
Practice inside. Take it outside. When you feel comfortable walking around your place, introduce your pet to new experiences and locations. Bring new "dog friends" over for "pet dates" and enjoy your time together or take a break and let your dog enjoy there time. Using a leash and harness are not difficult if you follow some simple rules.
Put a leash and harness on the dog. Keep the harness tight, but not too tight. Choose the side on which you want your dog to walk. Pull the leash close to your body. Talk to your dog. Reward your dog with special treats and never harm your pet with a choking device.
You can use a collar to walk your pet, but always be careful when you or they stop walking or runs off to chase a squirrel. You do not want to choke your pet in any way. Pulling your dog's neck in a strong force could cause lasting harm.
Dog Collars and Id Tags
Make sure your dog is wearing proper identification every time you leave the house with your dog to ensure that they’re wearing ID tags. Pet ID tags come in many shapes and sizes and also provide the options to have your information engraved on them. Unfortunately, you can’t control everything that happens, and sometimes dogs get lost — sad face.
Be prepared by making sure your dog is wearing tags that are up to date. You can write on the inside of the collar with a sharpie your information as an extra precaution to a pet tag malfunction. And since collars can break or wiggle out of, talk to your veterinarian about getting a microchip.
The microchip will store the dogs' id tags in a universal database that helps to track your dog down much more accessible than visiting every animal shelter in town.
Have Fun, Talk to Your Dog
Your dog understands the tone in your voice. Don’t get frustrated. Encourage your dog with a “what a good boy/girl” or “who is the best dog, you are, that's who” when it does something right. Use a STERN voice when instructing it not to do the wrong things, like pulling too hard on the leash to force control, barking at people passing by or growling at other dogs.
Use this time to train and love your pooch at the same time. If you are both having fun, soon you will be the top walkers of the neighborhood.
What Are Your Favorite Dog Walking Tips?
Do you have any additional dog training tips? Do you let your dog sniff around on walks? Let me know in the comments below.
]]>Visit the Vet: Ask your veterinarian some critical questions before you and your dog head into the wilds:
Is your dog physically ready?
You need to wait until a young dog’s bones are developed and ready for strenuous activities. That might be at a year of age, plus or minus several months, depending on size and other factors. Pet owners that push their pets before they are ready can see long term health problems for their dog.
Does your dog need any specific vaccinations or preventative medicines?
Ask the vet about preventative measures for outdoor destinations and city streets. Pet care starts with the drinking water, make sure the water is fresh, and your dog is vaccinated. Pet first aid care will give you years of enjoyment with your favorite sidekick.
Is your dog’s immune system ready?
Factoring in the rate of natural immunity development and your dog’s vaccine schedule, your vet can advise you about the safe age for you two to hit the trail.
Know Your Trail Regulations: Always check on the regulations for the areas where you’ll be hiking or backpacking. Most U.S. national parks, for example, do not allow even dog on a leash to share the trail.
Many national forests in the United States, as well as state and local parks, do allow dogs on their trail systems, though rules vary. Leashes are mandatory almost everywhere, as are poop bags, so you leave no trace. Please follow the dog-friendly regulations for your country.
Food and Water Guidelines to Follow
Being on the trail all day requires you to provide more food and water than your dog typically consumes. All dog walkers should have dog packs that include a pool for any outdoor adventures.
Larger dogs might drink 0.5 to 1.0 ounces of water per pound per day. Dogs 20 pounds and lighter will be closer to 1.5 ounces per pound per day. These are general guidelines, though, so you need to be watchful and offer water often, especially on hot days. If the nose is dry, then you’re under-hydrating your dog.
The rule of thumb for feeding is that you need to start with the usual amount of food, then add one cup for every 20 pounds of dog weight.
Tip: If you’re thirsty, hungry or tired, then the chances are that your dog is, too. Take a trail break to chow down, drink up, and catch your breath together.
Essential Items for Hiking with Dogs
Leash: Avoid long straps. A better choice is either a short leash or a moderate leash under 10 feet long. Note: Some state parks require dogs to be on a leash that is 10 feet or shorter.
Dog brush and comb: This will help to keep your dog’s fur deburred. On some long-haired breeds, if their coat gets knotted enough, they will refuse to move another inch even if they are 10 miles from the car.
Your pet should have a collar with your phone numbers and your dog’s name, rabies tag, and dog license on it for any emergencies.
Dog booties are almost impossible to get on your pooch but are great to protect sensitive dog paws or if your dog cuts a pad or tears a claw.
Water: Carry at least a quart of water for your dog for every 3 miles you plan to hike if there are no reliable water sources along the route check your hiking guide and plan accordingly.
Water dish ;)
Dog food/snacks: Bring real dog food and dog biscuits, which are nutritionally balanced (fewer carbs and more fat, protein) and more manageable for dogs to digest than human food.
Spare rope: Depending on what you carry for a leash, an extra line is helpful for times when you need to tie your dog to a tree or another fixed object.
Poop bags: if your dog does its business anywhere above treeline, along with a trail, or in a camping area, and you need to pack it out.
Dog first-aid kit: Basic components should include the following:
These simple beginners guide can take your knowledge level from total newbie to at least beginner, if not intermediate. Knowing these things will also help make the hike more enjoyable, and safer, for both you and your dog.

]]>The type of exercise you choose depends on the age and fitness of your pet and your lifestyle. Dogs are adaptable and are happy to play Frisbee in the park or take long walks in the neighborhood. Cats might need you to play with them, fish, well sprinkle some food in the tank and watch them swim.
Exercise is one of the best ways to spend time with your pet. It's especially crucial for a large breed, working, and active breed types. Dogs are beautiful athletes and must adapt to even strenuous exercise, provided they have had adequate opportunity to "train" and the environmental conditions are not too extreme.
Surely you’ve heard the favorite pet saying, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” Pet training is not easy, by any means. However, whether you are dealing with a senior pet who has developed bad habits over the years, or you are training your new puppy or kitten to help avoid these bad habits altogether, the best time to start teaching your pet is now – no matter what their age.
The perfect spring training
If you're a fitness trainer, this information is not new to you, but if you are like most people with fitness levels in the basic range continue reading. Training your dog should be fun and not seem like work, some aerobic exercise, pet care, and strength training for 30 minutes a day could be enough aerobic activity.
A happy and healthy lifestyle with regular exercise is essential for both you and your canine companion. Basic manners and the training program we have put together should make this spring and summer more enjoyable.
But to get the best out of your training, you have to do it right! Many workout principles that apply to humans apply to our dogs as well. For the complete training, you have to be aware.
Warm-up & cool-down! Begin all workouts with a warm-up period of brisk walking or easy jogging before running or doing other exercises. Even a dog bred for running cannot immediately start on a lengthy run. You have to start slow and light before you go on a 5 km run. Don’t forget a similar cool-down after your workout.
Rest & recovery are essential to improve the fitness of both you and your dog. If you just started your training, it is wise to run with your dog every second day. Taking a break between workouts will allow time for muscle recovery. And to avoid injury while building endurance.
Certain dog breeds are better running companions than others. Some dogs were bred to perform different jobs, which means each kind has its strength and endurance for exercise. Large dog breeds may be more suitable for longer runs than smaller dogs.
How far, how long, and how often? The dog’s age determines the number of km, minutes, or hours you want to run with your dog, size, breed, and body strength. It is vital that you are aware of your dog’s limits when exercising.
Dogs, like humans, have physical and mental differences that influence performance. If you keep an eye on your dog’s behavior, it is simple to figure out if he or she is comfortable with the amount of training.
Running each day is often not a problem for younger, healthy, athletic dogs, as long as the workouts are not successively intense. If you, for example, run a hard, fast, 8 km run on Tuesday, an easy 4 km recovery run would be perfect on Wednesday. A longer race, around 15 km, should be followed by a slow, comfortable series.
If your dog shows any signs of muscle soreness after a long exercise session, or lacks his usual enthusiasm for going out running, it is time to take a day off or to go for a leisurely walk. For beginners, it is best to start with easy workouts and accessible routes three times a week.
If both you and your dog feel comfortable with the amount of training, you can add another day and an extra km to your schedule. It might take a few weeks, but soon you’ll have a training plan that both you and your dog enjoy.
The weather! Always keep the weather in mind before your next outdoor activity. You may feel comfortable running on a hot sunny day, but don’t forget that your dog is wearing a warm, furry coat. If it’s too hot, your pet could suffer from health complications or get injured.
Conversely, running when it’s too cold or icy can be very hard and uncomfortable for your dog – especially for the paws. Dehydration, always make sure your dog is hydrated while running. Pack a bottle of water for you and one for your dog. Be aware of your dog's behavior and make a few water breaks.
Begin all workouts with a warm-up. Even a dog bred for running cannot start on a lengthy run.
Almost all dogs, especially older dogs, those with heart and lung problems, and those with thick hair coats, are likely to have trouble with hot and humid conditions. It's better to exercise in the early morning or evening when the heat is less than 80 degrees, and the humidity is less than 30 percent thus avoiding the hot and humid conditions.
Negative Reinforcement Does Not Stop Bad Behavior
Most times when pets display behavior that their pet parent is trying to discourage – jumping on the furniture, scratching the carpet, having a potty accident inside the home – they do so when they are alone. So when the “crime” discovered, many pet owners will show their pet the evidence of the incident (such as a wet spot on the floor) and discipline the pet then.
Unfortunately, the “crime” is already long out of the pets' mind by this time, and the discipline only confuses him; it does anything but creates a clear message, which is necessary when training a pet. Rather than negative reinforcement, reward your pet’s positive behavior for encouraging him to repeat the act in the future.
Professional Pet Care
What is the difference between Pet Sitting and Boarding?
Pet Sitting is when a pet care technician goes to the pets’ home for care. Boarding is when the pet goes somewhere other than their home to have cared. With this in mind, always find a boarding company or professional that expresses the need for physical activity in your pet.
Understanding the need for exercise and your pet, many boarding companies will offer a group fitness instructor with loose leash walking.
In conclusion, whatever you decide on in regards to training classes and getting your pet outside this spring remember to make it as fun for both you and your best friend. Check out one of our previous articles "Take Me Out To The Ballgame, Major League Sports Pet-Friendly Events" in regards to bringing your pet to the ball game, or some spring training games.
]]>Those people who take it super, really, astonishingly personally when the college they dropped out of 12 years ago is down by a field goal after, like, the first two minutes? Yeah, don't invite them. Nothing kills that party spirit like those dudes who lash out at everyone around them like sullen jerks just because their fantasy RB1 fumbled. On the other hand, the guy in the cardigan who doesn't even own a TV and thinks sports are just a bunch of neanderthals carrying a ball around. Yeah, he's not fun anywhere, let alone a sports party.
Fun games happen when you have a right mix of people - casual sports fans, hardcore enthusiasts with some self-awareness, and people who don't really care about the game but won't spend three hours loudly proclaiming it -- is what will make this party fun.
Always include your best friend and make sure to deck them out in all the best Official Sports Gear for your pets sports teams. You can go as simple as a new collar or to hats, food bowls, and of course a new pet jacket designed for sports and easily found on our online store with many customization options.
Layout any tables you'll need, bring along chairs and bring out the barbecue set. Cover the tables with tablecloths (choose ones that are easy to remove stains from) and tuck several garbage bags somewhere close to the table for easy access. When creating drink and food space, bear in mind where people will stand so that you won't have them blocking the TV view.
The best advice is – don't fuss over much. This sports club is a friends and fans party, and the idea is that everyone is free to help themselves and enjoy the informality of the occasion. You don't need to choose which chips you'll open first; open everything and put some of each in large bowls, selecting the number of containers depending on how many people are coming over for the game. Place the drinks in coolers or plastic bins first, then dump ice over them. Ensure that there are places to set down the hot food when it comes out, and leave plates, cutlery, napkins, and seasoning out for everyone to help themselves.
Serve a mix of items to satisfy everyone, and go for both finger foods that are easy to pick up and eat - think sandwiches, chips and dips, wings, and pizza - and heartier fare like chili and barbecue to balance out all that beer. Make sure you have plenty of food; guests will want to replenish often during the game. It’s best to set up a buffet off to the side where people can load up on main-course items, then have several smaller tables in the TV room with snacks that people can have a bite during the game.
After food and beer, this is an essential element of your party. Make sure you have enough seats in front of the TV for everyone who’s attending. Ask friends to bring over folding chairs if you don’t have enough, and don’t forget to dig up those lawn and camping chairs you’ve stored for the winter. Put out throw rugs or blankets and scatter some large pillows so that even those seated on the floor can get comfortable.
Make your guests feel at home when they arrive. Talk about the game while the pre-show is going on. Make bets to see who thinks which team is going to win. Add side bets, for example, point spreads, and the number of yards the MVP (most valuable player) ran. Talk about how you think the whole season went generally.
Create a Party Hashtag.
The best party about a party - except for being there, duh - is reliving the fun the next day. Make it easy for your guests by providing a hashtag for them to use when they post photos. Everyone there (and those who missed out) can scroll through the next day to see what they missed. #MajorLeaguePetsParty is a good one to try out. Make sure to provide your multi-purpose WiFi information.
Serve Your Drinks *IN* Fruit.
What's more Instagrammable than turning tropical fruits into cocktail glasses? Whether it's pineapple skin or a watermelon rind, no one will be able to resist snapping a few shots.
Give your guests something to remember your awesome party, a small trinket to continue with the sports theme like a ticket stub with your party information on it and contact details. As always if you have ideas or something to add, please feel free to share and comment using the links provided below.

]]>Well, there you have it. Let us know what you think and make sure to #GearUp with #MajorLeaguePets this football season.
]]>And who are we to deprive you of that conversation? Here is a list of the top sports teams with dog mascots in the NCAA, along with a brief explanation for each.
Uga X aka "Que," Hairy Dawg – Georgia
Hairy Dawg is the costumed mascot of the University of Georgia Bulldogs. Hairy Dawg made his first appearance at the 1981 Sugar Bowl and has been an official mascot of UGA since. Hairy Dawg attends all Georgia Bulldogs football games and most home athletic events. Forbes ranks Hairy Dawg No. 3 in their list of "America's Top 10 Sports Mascots".
Georgetown's current Jack the Bulldog was born on June 29, 2013, and arrived on campus in October of that year. Jack the Bulldog is the university’s official mascot – a well-known figure who is a beloved presence at Georgetown sports events.
According to the American Kennel Club, Jack ranks eighth among the 125 most famous dogs in pop culture. The class of 1964 brought the first Jack the Bulldog to campus in 1962.
Bully XXI aka "Jak" – Mississippi State
Jak is the 21st English Bulldog to serve as the official mascot of Mississippi State University. His formal name is Cristil’s Golden Prince named in honor of the long-time radio voice Jack Cristil.
Smokey is the mascot of the University of Tennessee sports teams. These teams, named "The Volunteers" and nicknamed "the Vols," use both a life and a costumed version of Smokey. There is an actual Bluetick Coonhound mascot, Smokey X, who leads the Vols on the field for football games.
Bonus: Arizona Wildcats Wilbur and Wilma
We couldn't leave without at least one cat team. In 1915, the school's first mascot, "Rufus Arizona" was brought to campus. He was an alive desert bobcat, named for U of A president Rufus von KleinSmid. For the next fifty years, the school used live mascots, a practice which discontinued in the 1960s.
However, in 1959, Wilbur, the costumed version of the live bobcat mascots, began appearing at football games. He was extremely popular and has stayed ever since. In 1986, Wilma Wildcat was created and was even married to Wilbur.
Thank you for taking the time to read our top mascots. If you have any comments or suggestions, feel free to share or post below. To read more about college sports like football, check out our Sports Help Guides.

Being a pet of a sports fan means there’s no jealousy. There’s no competition between fans. No one cares who loves Aaron Rodgers the most. Sports have always brought people and their pets together, even in the toughest times.
Finding someone who loves your team as much as you do means you have someone to watch games with, talk about their season and pretty much anything else that happens to the side. There is no jealousy between fans because they all want the same thing: to win.
Major League Pets brings the true sports fan and their pet to the next level. Are you a fan of the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, MLS, or NCAA? Shop Officially Licensed Sports Team Apparel by category for all of your pets sports gear needs including Team Jerseys, Team Bandannas, Team Bowls, Plush Team Toys, Cheerleader Uniforms, Team Sweaters, Team Sweatshirts, Team Caps, Team Jackets, Team Rope Toys, Team Leashes, and Team Collars.

Finally, being a fan of sports means you have crazy loyalty. These teams and games have been around for the longest time, so the odds of your favorite team up and quitting are very slim. A lot of people have become fans of their sport/team because of their parents and families.
The loyalty people and families have for these teams are ridiculous. Even if the unit is having a terrible season, we will always stay loyal to them because there’s still another season, another trophy, and another chance.

7 Tips for Taking Your Dog to the Tailgate
When tailgating, the last thing you want to do is to chase after your dog in a huge, noisy crowd. Tailgating often takes place in parking lots and can be a hazardous environment for pets. To keep your dog safe, keep him on a sturdy leash and supervise him at all times, especially around hot, BBQ grills and human food and alcohol.
