Earlier this month, ’68 announced that they were hanging it all up and going on a final farewell tour. The announcement bummed out plenty of folks that didn’t want to see the band go anywhere, but they at least have one thing to get excited about — new music. Today, the band revealed that they’ll be releasing one last album, titled They Are Survived, on May 28. Not only that, but they released its first single “ALWAYS LOVE”.

The noise rock duo’s album will be released while the band is out on their final run of shows. That tour will begin on May 13 in Orlando, Florida, with the band’s “very last show” taking place in Atlanta on June 20. They’ll make sure to hit a number of key cities along the way, including Baltimore, Philly, Toronto, Detroit, and Chicago.

With The Dillinger Escape Plan having toured all over the place for the last couple years celebrating Calculating Infinity with original vocalist Dimitri Minakakis, some fans have continued to ask the obvious question: what about Greg Puciato? The question on everyone’s mind really should be, “would Greg Puciato ever come back to TDEP?”

Well, we now have a bit of an answer from the man himself, as Puciato addressed the question while speaking with Lochlan Watt on Music Is My Life (as transcribed by Blabbermouth). And what we got was a lengthy, albeit in-depth, look into his thought process about the end of Dillinger and his relationship with the band he fronted from 2001 to 2017.

“It’s hard [not to] because it’s in your face all the time. It’s in my face all the time. It’s impossible [not to think about it]. Every single show, there’s people with the shirts, every single show there’s people outside that [have] a record [for me] to sign. They’ve got Ire Works, they’ve got One Of Us Is The Killer, or they’re asking me about it. But I’m proud of it. I’m not, like, ‘Fuck, that’s not me anymore. No one talk to me about that.’ I’m proud of it. It made both of our, and everyone involved, lives possible to a degree. Everything that anyone who is majorly important in that band has done since stemmed from our involvement with each other. So I look at it positively. There’s not a single ounce of me that has any negativity towards it.

“And, yeah, I would say that every day of my life, I’m aware of it, but I’m not thinking about it, if that makes sense. Because you can’t — you need to let yourself be who you are right now. I think the only way to do that is to keep looking forward. You can be aware of what happened behind you, but you don’t wanna like turn around and look at it. Just kind of be aware of it. It’s no different to me than high school or middle school or elementary school. You know that you went through it, it’s a huge part of your development, you’re proud of everything that happened during that time, or an ex or something like that, but you gotta keep going that way.”

We get older, we change and that’s ultimately for the best. Read ya loud and clear, man. But what about his thoughts about Minakakis’ return to the band? Surely he’s got some thoughts about that.

“Calculating Infinity is massively important. I bought it the day it came out. I was a fan of that band… But, yeah, Dimitri was perfect on that record. That record’s got a vibe that, unlike all of our other records, it’s a very isolated vibe, whereas after that, we started becoming a different band, where we had pretty much a lot of different possibilities vocally and creatively. But I think that that record is so pointed — it’s such a pointed vibe — and for me it’s still cool.

“It’s so funny ’cause people expect me to have some negative [opinion of what they are doing], like, ‘Fuck that.’ But I wasn’t on that record. What would be goofy is if I was included in that. I don’t have anything to do with that record. Why would I go out and play that record? If they’re doing like a playthrough of that record, I don’t need to be there just for the fuck of it. If they went out and did a Miss Machine playthrough, or a One Of Us Is The Killer playthrough… I mean, they, obviously that’s not gonna happen, but…”

Puciato fronted the band for 16 years, with his final album being the 2016 album Dissociation. That album ended up getting a year long tour, with the band playing three final shows at New York City’s Terminal 5. As for whether he’d ever join the band to celebrate one of the albums he was on, Puciato sounded less sure that it would be a thing at all.

“There’s something about doing that, to me, that you really gotta put a cap on it if you were to do it. I feel like it would be a concession in a way to like be, like, ‘Oh, I’m no longer…’ That’s what I used to think. I would be, like, ‘Oh, I, I need to be creatively valid now.’ It doesn’t really interest me, ’cause it takes a lot of your time to do that. And I have a lot of gas for doing new things. I wanna write new music. I wanna write new songs, do new things, collaborate with new people. I’m excited about music, I’m excited about art, and I’m excited about singing. You already have to drag around something you already did when you go on tour. We already were playing songs from 15 years ago when the band was still going. We were playing Panasonic Youth every night, and it started to become, like, ‘Fucking hell, man. How many times…?’ … So you gotta step away. So when the band ended, I would’ve told you no way. There’s no fucking way. It’s gonna take too much of my time. I came outta that band just feeling like I was shot out of a rocket and like I had so much fuel for doing new shit. There was no question. I wasn’t, like, ‘What am I gonna do now?’ I was filled with fuel.

“Now — would I do it? I wouldn’t do a Miss Machine playthrough, ’cause I think that’s a little weird. There’s no real need. They’re doing a one album playthrough, because that’s the only album really that there is [with Dimitri], besides the EPs and stuff. It would have to encapsulate everything from Miss Machine to Dissociation, and it would have to have a cap on it. Because the more you start doing that — it’s easy money too, and then you’re, like, you start feeling, like, you’re getting this money, but your life is passing. I’m 46 almost, and it’s, like, what am I gonna do? Do it for a couple years, then suddenly you’re 48. You can’t let it take up too much of your time. You gotta just keep doing new things. And then you get hooked… There is something about it where you have to feel good about the fact that you got enough new things going that that’s not your whole identity anymore, and you could still go back to it without it sucking up all your time.”

Back in the day, bands that had women in them were more of a precious commodity than ubiquitous without notice. In the rock world, we had women like Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett, and Blondie holding it down with the masses. Despite the late ‘90s and early 2000s giving us releases from legends like Lacuna Coil and Evanescence, metal especially has always been dominated by men. White, straight men. And when it came to attending shows back in the day, the audiences (especially the pits) were much of the same, drenched in sweat and an offensive lack of deodorant.

No matter what section of the metal world you’re sitting in, I’d venture to say you’ve definitely seen, heard, or experienced some level of adversity as a non-man at some point. The invalidation; the belief that a woman could never (or at least, rarely) do anything remotely more brutal than bubblegum pop or something hyper-sexualized. There’s nothing wrong with either of those things, but the inherent dismissal of women being able to do anything other than those things, is. A term like “female-fronted” or emphasizing that a band has a “chick” playing any instrument, has usually served as a way to throw some sort of congratulatory shade at a woman doing anything other than what widely we’re accepting of them doing. It’s reductive, especially when we’ve had so many queenpins throughout the years.

Take Maria Ferrero, aka Metal Maria, for instance. She’s been, as she’s said herself, “turning artists into household names since 1983,” and that’s no joke. Maria’s been around the metaphorical metal block working with bands through her company Adrenaline PR and more. But, even though she’s played a large hand in literally all of our favorite names (she literally SIGNED Ministry in the ‘90s, y’all), that doesn’t mean she’s immune to the bullshit. She just doesn’t take it lying down.

“I’ve been around for over 45 years going to shows like Metallica, Plasmatics, Black Flag, Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, and Godflesh. There were barely any other women at shows as fans, let alone as artists on stage taking a leap to share their talent onstage or to become music industry folk. That’s why I pride myself on being a part of the metal music industry at an actual level of importance such as signing bands like Testament and Vio-lence  and all as a suburban New Jersey woman, all before I was 21.”

Y’all better put some respect on her name and, for the most part, you have. It’s all the other women in the genre whose, though it has improved, flowers deserve to bloom outside of festival and award seasons.

Many of us, while likely nowhere near possessing as awesome of a resume as Ferrero, started our relationship with metal as angelic, angry little shits looking for an escape. And, since we started so young, we have literal years of worth of chauvinism to reference. That makes it hard NOT to get giddy about seeing another lady actively doing what they’re try so hard to exclude us from doing, so in that sense, using a descriptor like “female-fronted” could be like a somewhat welcomed dogwhistle.

At least, that was more of the case before the internet allowed for you to look up bands yourself, or find people who were able to freely speak on which artists are phenomenal without being bound by the confines of editors or media conglomerates with less supportive agendas and penchants for suppression.

Like Ebonie Butler, better known online as Metal and Coffee. She’s a streamer and music appreciator, since her content focuses more on uplifting voices in metal than outright critiquing them. Her beginnings in metal will likely sound very familiar to many of you gals, and especially us Black ones.

“In the beginning, I was treated like a foreigner in the space. Men used to ask me about the shirt I was wearing because they thought I stole it from a partner or something. And people often thought that I just wanted to be white so bad and that’s the reason I would go to shows. Which I always found funny because who would intentional put themselves in a space where no one looks like them, just to kiss people’s asses and try to be accepted? That shit is so uncomfortable. 

“I went to shows by myself for the music. I would find my little corner and block everyone out. A perfect night would be where I was literally invisible and it was just be engulfed in gutturals and blast beats.”

I’d say “engulfed in gutturals” is a fair assessment of what it’s like to be at a show for sure, but it’s not taken as seriously when women try to do it. Now at 38, Butler’s alienation has morphed further into a means of supporting others who’ve gone through much of the same thing.

“The people that have recognized me at shows have been really sweet,” Butler says. “I especially love it when a woman and/or Black follower comes up to me to share how me being vocal online has made them feel welcome in the space.”

Needless to say—since it’s kind of the point of this whole article—that exclusionary energy also extends its grubby little negative hands to the talent sector of the metal world as well. Apparent talent aside, when it comes to women playing in bands, the hands that hold the instrument bear more weight than what they do with it.

Emma Boster, the vocalist of Portland, Oregon-based metalcore band Dying Wish, is a good example of this. Boster’s got some powerful cords in that throat but, especially when the band first started, it didn’t seem like that mattered as much as that it came out of her specifically.

“I’ve been screaming in a band for almost ten years and the amount of times I’ve heard ‘I don’t usually like when girls are in bands but I like your band’ is seriously disheartening. I fear that people think women being in bands feels like a trend to some people. There isn’t as much violence around being a woman in the scene as there used to be and in that way it has gotten better. But I think there is still a lot for us to unpack and work towards treating women in bands equally.”

From the stage to the pit to the page, women’s presence in metal have been treated like a trope. Like the red-headed stepchildren of metal’s family tree, if you will; an afterthought of consideration and appreciation in terms of talent, no matter how evident. Recently though, metal in general has been getting more recognition on a larger scale, like Gojira’s visually stunning 2024 Olympics performance, or Knocked Loose’s Jimmy Kimmel performance from that same year. Still, those accolades have by and large been reserved for metal men, save for Poppy’s 2021 Grammy nom for “Bloodmoney” and Spiritbox’s 2024 and 2025 nominations for “Jaded” and “Cellar Door,” respectively (though Poppy was also nominated along with Knocked Loose for “Suffocate” last year as well). While women being in bands has always been a thing, appreciating them has risen in popularity, especially with names like Poppy and Courtney LaPlante gaining such household recognition.

The positive shift surely isn’t lost on Boster:

“The overall vibe is much more positive but there are still a lot of nasty comments (which I don’t read anymore). I think the biggest thing I’ve noticed lately is our expectation of perfection is a different standard than our male counterparts. We are expected to be pretty and in good shape as if our job is to appeal to the male gaze and not play breakdowns. We also are criticized vocally far more than men who scream. I think overall the popularity of women in bands is responsible but I also think what’s really critical is how MANY women are in known bands as opposed to a decade ago you could almost name them on one hand.”

Now that publications are getting better at using different descriptors and expanding the repertoire of who they cover in general, the bias is thankfully becoming slightly less discernible. That doesn’t mean we’re in the clear yet though, so normalizing women’s presence in the genre should always be a priority. I know I, much like Butler, will continue to scour the ends of the internet in search of what’s good:

“I think it’s slowly becoming less shocking to see women in metal although I still personally get excited when I see it. We are still a minority so effort still needs to be put in to bring us to the forefront. I think the media has been doing a better and better job with diversifying the bands they highlight instead of just sticking to the most popular women in the scene. It’s all about doing the work and not being lazy about seeking it out in underground music.”

With all that said, what will the next decade of metal look like for us ladies? Well, on the assumption that the world even still exists by then, hope for continued recognition really rests in what’s going to maintain as a society in general—acknowledging that we’re ALL in this together, as hokey as I know that definitely sounds. Creativity can thrive in solitude, but teamwork really does make the dream work, or however the saying goes.

And, to be a team, you have to be inclusive not just of all genders and identities, but of all races, too. As a Black woman who writes about metal, and has for over 15 years, it sucks that this entire discourse is one I’m still having to partake in. Let’s keep it a buck though—it sucks that we’re still having conversations about rights, equality, and recognition at large, in general. Butler agrees.

“I think as long as we continue to realize that acceptance of all people in the genre will lead to growth and true community, we will continue on the ups and boot all those ugly ass Nazis out.”

That, and staying open-minded while still acknowledging how closed off metal started at its core. You can’t change form without looking at how you formed in the first place and part of that, at least in this context, involves developing and maintaining a willingness to accept our differences. Being “different” from the norm is what this music was all about in the first place, right? To Boster, that answer is yes, of course.

“I think what’s important is that we don’t lose sight of the roots of metal and hardcore as a movement of some kind to be the antithesis to modern society. As long as we can maintain that mentality in the balance of growth I think we’ll head in an inspiring direction. Ideally we would see an equal representation of all kinds of people across the board so that we wouldn’t need to emphasize when someone looks different than the usual cis white male.”

For Ferrero, that future involves expanding the boundaries of your expectations and creative approach. Metal has always been homogenous in looks and lately, in sound, and you can’t call for change if you’re just trying to do the same thing as everyone else.

“I feel like it’s deja vu. Too many bands releasing music. Too big of a lack of support by labels and managers since they’re more interested in what they’ll make versus what they’ll invest in to get a different return…Too many artists trying to be like other bands or have similar careers. The magic happens in the unexpected. The uniqueness is what rewrites new directions. Why label it? Why say ‘female-fronted?’ Why say ‘post-hardcore?’ Can’t it just be blank and androgynous? Here it is, just go listen.”

Last year, mathcore outfit The Callous Daoboys released what was one of the best albums of 2025 with I Don’t Want to See You in Heaven. It was wild, it was sonically interesting, and really set the band forward in a number of ways. Now it’s 2026 and they’re back on the grind, teasing a new song for the masses coming this Thursday.

Earlier today, the band took to Twitter to share a 19 second clip of the new single that — if the tweet is to be believed — is titled “Gigantic Parasite Tongue”. Don’t quote me on that, but it’s the only text that’s included with the snippet of the song. Well, that and the date 4/2, which is this Thursday.

As you’ll definitely hear below, this sounds like it’s going to be an absolute monster. I personally cannot wait to hear what they’ve got in store for us with this new track. Is it a new album? A new EP? Is this just a standalone single to release for the fuck of it? What about more tour dates? Will Carson Pace be my friend?

Only time will tell.

Earlier this month, we were all shocked to learn that Neurosis was back and had not only recruited Sumac’s Aaron Turner as their new vocalist, but had also recorded a new record and released it that day. It was a fucking whirlwind of excitement that swept across us all, especially given the fact that most people thought that band was doneski following how Scott Kelly’s exit went down.

In the days since all that went down, fans have shown nothing but love for the album and the band. In both instances, the guys knocked it out of the park and folks are excited to catch Neurosis live. All the outpouring of positivity and excitement has apparently affected the members of Neurosis greatly, as they made a sincere, heartfelt post on Instagram thanking fans for their support.

I’m not one to pretend I can speak for the mighty Neurosis, so here’s their statement:

“We want to offer you all our deepest and most heartfelt gratitude. We are quite overwhelmed and more than humbled. Never in our wildest imagination could we have foreseen that our return and new album would have such a deep resonance and emotional impact. We have always tried to hold to an artistic ethos of ‘give everything, expect nothing’ and have always made this music for ourselves, making the music we need to make at any given moment.

“This experience is making it abundantly clear that what we have tapped into is much larger than ourselves or our band and that we are involved in a mutual exchange of cathartic energy that we haven’t often witnessed, especially on the cesspool of the internet. Anyone giving a piece of art or music their time and attention should never be taken for granted and you have given us more than our share.

Australian progressive rock instrumentalist Plini is back with a brand new album named An Unnameable Desire and it’s coming out on April 24. That’s not a whole lot of time to wait.

Spanning 10 new tracks, his third full-length album continues to show off Plini’s impeccable guitar prowess, bringing a whole new sound to the fore.

“Something I’m very happy about, after many years of making music and the ‘career’ aspect of it becoming a whole lot more serious, is that the process hasn’t changed – still just me sitting in a room, tinkering on a guitar until I come across an interesting idea, and then following it down various rabbit holes until it starts feeling like a song.

“The intention with this album was to let that side of the process be as playful as possible, and then when it came to executing these ideas as finished songs, trying to expand the music in every direction possible: the heavier parts should be heavier, the pretty parts should be prettier, the hard-to-play stuff should be harder to play… and also in being as thoughtful and intricate as possible in relating the songs to each other through various themes and references. I hope it’s as enjoyable to listen to as it was to make!”

In addition to today’s announcement, Plini released the album’s title track as its first single. You can check it out down below, but he’s also got some insight to share about the song:

“I picked this as the first single because it sets the tone/sound of the album without really giving anything away. I’m known as a guitarist, but this song doesn’t even really contain a guitar ‘solo’. Much like the video, it’s the whimsical first chapter of an adventure, and hopefully gives a false sense of security for what’s to come.”

Time is getting closer to the end of Sepultura, as their world tour winds down later this year, they’re going to hang it up for good, but not before releasing one last bit of new music. Hence the upcoming April 24 release of The Cloud Of Unknowing EP. Today, the band released another track off of that in the form of a sort of somber track, “Beyond The Dream”.

What’s on offer today is a somewhat moody track that at times has hints of Type O Negative in it. Listen to the track, you’ll hear it kinda. I’m not saying Derrick Green sounds entirely like Peter Steele, but that guy goes deep on this one.

This time around, the band issued a joint statement on “Beyond The Dream”:

“‘Beyond the Dream’ emerges as one of the most emblematic moments of Sepultura’s final chapter, serving as a poetic reflection of a journey shaped by decades of albums, tours, and life on the road.

“This previously unreleased composition fulfills a long-standing desire of the band to explore the ballad format, blending Sepultura’s identity with the melodic sensitivity of renowned collaborators. To bring this project to life, Sepultura enlisted the essential collaboration of Sérgio Britto and Tony Bellotto of Titãs—musicians who share a long history with the band and are widely recognized as specialists in the genre, as well as composers of classics such as ‘Polícia.’

“The result of a direct partnership between members of Sepultura and Titãs, the song celebrates the connection between artists who share the stage and a deep passion for creation. The outcome is a piece that brings great satisfaction to everyone involved, establishing itself as both an emotional and historical milestone featured on the band’s final EP, released in this very year that marks Sepultura’s official farewell.”

Awww shit, guys. Swedish doom metal titans Monolord is looking to make 2026 their year. Not only are they going to have a huge list of tour dates to go through, but they’ve also got a brand new album coming out on May 29 via Relapse Records titled Neverending.

Boasting eight new songs, Neverending is Monolord’s first new album since the release of 2021’s Your Time To Shine. To celebrate today’s announcement, the band released the album’s first single, a track titled “You Bastard”. It’s a loud and heavy one, so enjoy.

Speaking of how things have been in the band since 2013, drummer Esben Williams said things have been pretty great.

“It’s been a wild ride and still is. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished along the way, and in many ways, this album feels like the essence of everything we’ve done so far. My mindset is the same it’s always been, to be the absolute best the three of us can be.”

Neverending will be released on May 29 via Relapse Records, but you can preorder your copy today.

Kawaii-metal is going to be heading out across the world yet again, as Babymetal announced they’ll be heading out on a world tour this year. And they’re going to start the whole thing off in North and Latin America.

Kicking off on August 30 in San Diego as a supporting act for My Chemical Romance, Babymetal will then play a total of 20 shows in North America. That run will come to an end on October 3 in Sacramento, California. Supporting Babymetal on their North American run will be Halestorm and Violent Vira.

As for the Latin American run, those dates will begin more than a month later on November 28 in São Paulo, Brazil and will run until December 12 in Mexico City, Mexico.

Tickets for dates in the US and Canada will be available starting with an artist presale that begins on Monday, April 6 at 10 a.m. local time, and you can sign up for that presale now until April 5. A Citi presale will begin on April 6, with additional presales running throughout the week ahead of the general on-sale starting Friday, April 10 at 10 a.m. local time.

Tickets for the Latin American dates will be available starting with an artist presale on Monday, April 20 at 10 a.m. local time through April 21 at 11 p.m. local time. Tickets go on sale to the general public starting on April 22.

In a post on their Instagram account, Japanese deathcore band Crystal Lake announced that they’d be splitting up with vocalist John Robert Centorrino three years after he joined in 2023. But don’t worry if you have a ticket to one of their upcoming shows — they’re going on without him by utilizing “special guest vocalists” at each upcoming gig.

For those keeping score, Centorrino joined the band when Ryo Kinoshita left in 2022 after being there since 2012. Rather than paraphrase what they said regarding Centorrino’s exit, in their post, here’s the text in full:

“We have an announcement to share. It has been an incredibly busy few years leading up to the release of our album The Weight of Sound. We started the year on a high, releasing the record in January and having a great time together with fans across Europe and the UK. 2026 is shaping up to be one of the busiest years we’ve ever had.

“Last year was also nonstop for Crystal Lake. We were writing and recording while moving from continent to continent playing some of the biggest shows of our career. During this busy time creating The Weight of Sound album, John welcomed his child into the world. That brought a deeper meaning to the core idea behind the song and album title, the weight that comes with balancing life, family, and being in a touring band

“Some of us in the band and on our team are fathers, so we understand both the joy of those short moments at home and the challenge of being away for long periods of time. John has given everything to make it work for us and his daughter, but the international distances and schedule demands have made it increasingly difficult for him to balance the two.

“So, it is with a heavy heart that we are announcing the mutual decision to part ways so John can focus on a path that allows him a healthier balance in his life and music career. We truly want this for John and, as hard as it is for both of us, we know it is the right decision.

“We want to thank John for the past three years and for everything he has brought to Crystal Lake. We are also grateful to all of you who welcomed him into this band, as well as our team and partners who continue to stand with us through every step.

“Crystal Lake has no intention of stopping. Our band is fortunate to have talented friends, and some of them have offered to fill in until we find our new singer. John remains part of our extended family, and we know you will continue to support him in whatever comes next.

File this one under ‘if there’s smoke, there’s fire’, but it’s looking like Converge isn’t done releasing new music. Just a little more than a month after the release of their latest album Love Is Not Enough, it seems the Massachusetts-based band is going to announce their next studio effort, Hum Of Hurt — along with its title track — tomorrow.

Though it’s not been officially announced just yet, album details have made their way online through sources like the French premium music streaming service Qobuz. Thanks to that and similar listings, we know that the new album will be released on June 5 via Epitaph Records. We also know it’s once again produced by Converge’s guitarist Kurt Ballou, and we know it features 10 new tracks totaling just about 33 and a half minutes of what’s sure to be unadulterated chaos.

There’s even an unlisted YouTube video for the title track that’s currently unavailable for viewing, but was uploaded a few hours ago. That’s apparently supposed to go live tomorrow, but here’s the rub: tomorrow’s April Fools’ Day, so I’m going out on a limb here to post this as a rumor and potentially get burned by some massive prank.

Either way, the prospect of new Converge music is too exciting not to share with you guys. If it all turns out to be a ruse, good job Converge. You got me. If not, then we’re all winners because fuck yes, new Converge!

Stoner rock group Gozu are gonna be taking their fuzz-laden tunes out on the road this summer by joining Restless Spirit for a co-headlining U.S. tour. And the good news is you won’t have to wait long for shows to start up.

Set to kick off on May 24 in Providence, Rhode Island, the tour will run until June 27 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Along the way, the pair will hit venues in Chicago, Denger, Seattle, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Philly, just to name a few stops.

With his eye on the road ahead, Gozu frontman Marc Gaffney said he and the guys were excited to head out.

“GOZU is incredibly excited to get back on the road and get it going. The new album [Gozu VI] will be prominent in the set, and we will be playing songs from all of our albums. So, get ready to shake your ass and top that glass. Eat a peach!”

Similarly, Restless Spirit vocalist and guitarist Paul Alosio echoed Gaffney’s enthusiasm, since they too will be bringing new tunes out on the road.

“We are beyond excited to bring our new songs on the road after working so hard to create what we feel is our best album to date. [Restless Spirit is set for release May 8th]. We’ll be curating a setlist that will cater to fans of all eras of the band, both old and new. And by joining forces with GOZU, we know for a fact that there is going to be an abundance of heaviness each night. Don’t miss this tour!”

Popular djent (or maybe not djent) band Periphery is back and they’re going to be releasing a new album pretty soon. But sooner than that, we’ll be getting a new track from ’em titled “Mr. God” this Thursday.

All of that information, as well as the album title A Pale White Dot was announced earlier today over on the band’s official Instagram page. When it’s released on May 15 via 3 Dot Recordings, it will be the band’s first new studio effort since 2023’s Periphery V: Djent is Not a Genre.

You can pre-save the single today on the digital music platform of your choice, but you’ll have to wait until the full album is announced to take advantage of any preorders that come up. All you gotta do is wait until Thursday for more details.

And if you’re wise enough, you know the state is home to many killer metal bands like death metal outfit Funebrarum, who’s planning to release their first new album since 2009.

Announced earlier today, the band revealed that their forthcoming album Beckoning the Void of Eternal Silence will drop on May 29 via Pulverised Records. Not only is this their first new album in nearly 20 years, it’s also the first new music they’ve released in seven years. Yet today they’re back and the underground death metal scene is officially on notice.

“We, Funebrarum are stoked to be sharing our third offering, Beckoning the Void of Eternal Silence with the world. We are proud of the work overall and the final result. We look forward to desecrating stages worldwide with the new material.”

Having been around since 1999, Funebrarum have played with some of death metal’s best over the years. To get folks stoked about the new album, they released the first new track from that release, “Anhela Odor Mortuorum (The Adepts)”.

Described as a “suffocating descent into morbid atmosphere, heaving riffs, and sepulchral intensity” that heralds the band’s return, the single is basically Funebrarum’s way of kicking the door in and announcing their intentions.

“‘Anhela Odor Mortuorum (The Adepts)’ is a track we completed while on tour in Mexico several years ago. The song was written, mostly, by our bassist, Winslow. It is a great track that we enjoy playing live. It outlines the ancient journey of an occultist deep in connection to and in contemplation of, the shadowed mysteries.”

Listen, you and I both know there’s something fishy going on with this whole President thing. Maybe it’s the gimmick. Maybe it’s the fact that they were suddenly popular despite never putting out a song. But for many, their reasons don’t extend beyond the fact that they feel like an industry plant.

All of that is prologue to say that the band is going out on tour in North America for the first time in its seemingly short existence. Coming along for their headline tour through the U.S. will be Cenobia and Showing Teeth on select dates.

The tour itself will kick off on September 4 in Nashville, Tennessee and come to a close on October 14 in Dallas, Texas. Along the way, they’ll make stops in places like St. Louis, Missouri; Toronto, Ontario; and Denver, Colorado, just to name a few.

British doom metal outfit Godthrymm haven’t released a new album since 2023’s Distortions, but that’s all going to change pretty soon with the May 29 release of their newly announced record Projections. And if that bit of news isn’t enough to get you doom heads excited, the release of the album’s first single “Truth In My Own” surely will.

Set to be released through Profound Lore Records, Projections boasts six new tracks that’s sure to be heavy and doom-y as hell, if the lead single is any indication. Speaking of the album itself, frontman Hamish Glencross explained the emotional weight that went into its creation.

“On this new album we present to you songs that channel our passion, our sorrow, our love, our fury — the very essence that makes us who we are, and we hope you find some kindred reflection in yourselves on this journey. Our first album, Reflections, was a rekindling of our passion and fire for the music we love, the second album, Distortions, took that template and evolved it ever further with grandeur and vision. Projections takes everything that has brought us to this point and delves into our very musical souls with the appropriate introspection, diversity, and contrasts of our emotions that define us. This is who we are, and we project all of this through our new album.”

This album is the first one to include the band’s newly expanded lineup, which features Glencross on guitar and vocals, Shaun Taylor-Steels on drums, keyboardist and co-vocalist Catherine Glencross, bassist Bob Crolla, and new second guitarist Kris McLaughin.

Additionally, the new record features guest vocal spots from original English Dogs vocalist Adie Bailey and Xentrix vocalist Jay Walsh on “Trenches Deep,” as well as former My Dying Bride vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe appears on “Endure My Skin”.

When it comes to the album’s lead single “Truth In My Own,” Glencross said the choice to make it the public’s first taste of the new album just made sense.

“We picked ‘Truth In My Own’ as the lead single as it is the most fist clenching and head banging song on the album! Projections brings much contrast and diversity as we’ve pushed the sonic extremities of our sound, and we hope you enjoy this first very direct heavy metal song complete with a suitably frenetic video directed by the masterful Ash Pears. Certainly not a country where Ringworm frontman James “Human Furnace” would need to use the aforementioned service to help cover rising medical costs…

“James ‘Human Furnace’ Bulloch is a talented tattoo artist and, as many of you know, the singer for Ringworm and Gluttons. Recently, James had to undergo surgery, which has put his life and career on hold. As a result, he is unable to work at the tattoo shop for at least a month, and it will be several months before he can return to performing with his bands. This sudden change has created a lot of uncertainty and stress, both emotionally and financially.

“During this recovery period, the bills don’t stop coming. Medical expenses are adding up, and without his regular income from tattooing and performing, it’s tough to keep up with everyday living costs. We (Frank and Dwid) started this fundraiser to help ease that burden, so James can focus on healing without the added worry of how to pay for essentials.

Created just two days ago by Hatebreed (and former Ringworm) guitarist Frank Novinec and Integrity vocalist Dwid Hellion, the GoFundMe page initially asked friend and fans to help raise an initial amount of $1,800. By the end of that first day, that amount had jumped up to $5,500 as donations came in. Then yesterday, the amount jumped to $10,000. Today, as of 9:44 a.m., that amount has once again gone up to $15,000.

As of this posting, 169 donations have come in and totaled $10,055. Normally this is where I’d suggest you chip in if you can, but it seems the donations have been paused at this time. So if you were one of the folks that helped out, kudos.

Noise peddlers Chat Pile are in the studio. They’ve been working on their follow up to 2024’s Cool World. And it turns out that according to a post this past weekend, they’re done recording and moving on to mixing and mastering the upcoming release.

Over the weekend, the most Canadian thing happened at the Canadian equivalent of the GRAMMYs, as the mighty Rush played live as a complete unit for the first time in 11 years and for the first time since Neil Peart’s death in 2020.

Playing the TD Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario, founding Rush members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson were joined by their new drummer Anika Nilles and keyboardist Loren Gold. And in a fitting moment, the band played the opening track from their 1974 self-titled debut, “Finding My Way”.

While speaking with reporters prior to their performance, Lee said the song choice was deliberate.

“You really can’t ask us what song to play. If we have to choose one song, it’s almost impossible. We have so many. So we just asked management, and they said first song, first album.”

Ever the joker, Lifeson chimed in saying it was “the only song we know how to play.”

Leading up to the award show performance, Rush sent a newsletter out to fans hinting that they’d be playing. Similarly, the Juno Awards Instagram post shared a photo of the 1975 Juno for Most Promising Group Award.

Essentially, the Juno performance serves as a warm-up for the band’s Fifty Something tour announced last year. With 58 dates in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, it’s going to be a super important year for Rush. And I don’t know about you, but I’m stoked to hear these songs live again.

German thrash metal band Kreator dropped a new album earlier this year in Krushers of the World and they’re currently out on tour, so they’ve released a music video for the track “Loyal To The Grave.”

With this particular track showing off a different side of the band’s intensity, “Loyal To The Grave” is one of the more soaring, anthemic tracks featured on the album. It’s aggressive and emotional at the same time, giving fans more to the band’s sound.

Speaking of the video itself, Mille Petrozza explained the inspiration behind it:

“The video was inspired by the movie The Crow this time. I hope you enjoy our little journey into obscurity as much as we do.”

Kreator is currently ripping through Europe with Carcass, Exodus, and Nails. They’ll be heading out to the U.S. for a run with Carcass and Cold Steel this May, so be sure to check the dates below and get your tickets today.

Over the weekend, our friends to the North got to celebrate the artists that call Canada their home during the annual Juno Awards. Just like our GRAMMYs, the event was chock full of celebrities and famous artists looking to celebrate their achievements. And for the dudes in Despised Icon, their achievements got them the ‘Metal/Hard Music Album Of The Year’ award for last year’s Shadow Work.

Despised Icon’s latest album went up against Counterparts’ Heaven Let Them Die, Cryptopsy’s An Insatiable Violence, Silverstein’s Antibloom, and Unreqvited’s A Pathway To The Moon. All albums deserving of recognition, but Shadow Work got the nod in the end.

It’s great to see those guys take home a major dub, as Shadow Work was their first new music since 2019. Has to feel good to come back after several years and land a major award.

As for the ‘Rock Album of the Year’ category, The Beaches’ No Hard Feelings bested Bryan Adams’ Roll With The Punches, grandson’s INERTIA, The Blue Stones’ Metro, The Damn Truth’s self-titled album, and Three Days Grace’s Alienation.

Last week saw the beginning of the 2026 Major League Baseball season. Teams got hot starts like my New York Mets, while others spun their wheels at the starting line, but that’s not why we’re here. This past Saturday, the San Diego Padres utilized their star closer Mason Miller for the first time at home and as a result, the world witnessed one of the coolest entrances in baseball in a long time.

That’s all because starting the 9th inning in a high leverage situation, the TV production team followed Miller out from the bullpen to the mound on the field as Korn’s 1994 classic “Blind”. Lights turned on and off along with the music, folks got hyped up and cheered loud, and as just before he got to the mound, Jonathan Davis’ scream “ARE YOU READY” filled the stadium.

It’s super cool to see this sort of thing happen at a major moment in a televised game. Metal in baseball isn’t entirely rare, though the sport is absolutely dominated by pop, rap, and Latin music fans. Still, some folks like Miller, former Washington Nationals reliever Sean Doolittle, and former Red Sox player Mike Lowell were known for metal entrance songs. Hell, Hall of Fame ex-Yankees closer Mariano Rivera used to come out to Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” and former Houston Astros outfielder Josh Reddick used to come up to bat to “You Know That Ain’t Them Dogs’ Real Voices” by iwrestledabearonce on the regular.

In the case of Miller, using Korn as an entrance song plays double duty when playing at home. Not only is it a badass entrance for a closer jogging to the mound to slam the door on a game, but it’s also getting to highlight a home-grown band like Korn — even though Bakersfield is an almost four hour drive to San Diego…

The Padres would end up holding on to their three run lead against the Detroit Tigers thanks to Miller’s lights out performance. Though most will attribute the save to Miller’s dominant pitching performance, I’ll give Korn a little nod here too. There’s no way Miller wasn’t fired up after that introduction.

Though they announced their intention to play the ProgPower USA festival this September, Nevermore had to backtrack that announcement over the weekend because of bureaucratic bullshit. More specifically, U.S. work visa problems.

According to a post on the band’s Instagram page, their plan to come to the U.S. got the kibosh when they were unable to secure a work permit in time for their new vocalist Berzan Önen. Though Nevermore is a Seattle-based band, Önen is a Turkish citizen and as such is required to obtain a permit to work in the U.S. if Nevermore decides to tour this part of the world.

Though everyone else seemingly managed to get their visas, including Önen’s countryman and Nevermore bassist Semir Özerkan, for some reason the vocalist’s passage was taking longer than folks had hoped.

Rather than mince their words, here’s Nevermore’s official explanation:

“A MESSAGE FOR OUR US FANS

“We hear your requests for a US tour loud and clear, and we want it to happen just as much as you do. The reason it hasn’t yet is simple – getting the work permit for our singer is taking much longer than anticipated. We’ll get it done, but unfortunately we aren’t quite there yet.

“Sadly, it also means that we won’t be able to perform at ProgPower USA this year.

“Sincere apologies to Glenn, the ProgPower USA crew and our US fans, and thanks for understanding.

“New music is forthcoming, and we’ll finally be back on stages in the states performing it live in 2027. We owe it to all of you and promise we’ll make it worth the wait.

“In light of all of this, we are actively booking more international shows for later this year. Announcements for those will happen soon.”

This isn’t the first time a band has had to alter their touring plans thanks to the U.S. visa process. There have been numerous times in recent memory where bands either can’t get their visas processed in time or the costs became too expensive to make the trip viable. Either way, you hate to see something like this happen — especially when there’s so much hype for this new iteration of Nevermore.

Just look back at all the arguments we’ve gotten into with our parents as teens—the music we listened to helped (and still does) help us, even if some of it sounds like literal death. We’ve now got a new documentary to point to that supports our longstanding knowledge, called Heavy Healing.

Heavy Healing features fans, artists, and other industry big and small wigs going off on how much heavy music has helped and healed them in various ways. You’ll see quite a few familiar faces: Lou Koller (Sick of it All), Jesse Leach (Killswitch Engage), Jaret Reddick (Bowling for Soup),Mike IX Williams (Eyehategod), Vinnie Stigma (Agnostic Front), Eddie “Sutton” Pomponio (Leeway),Jesse Malin (Heart Attack, D-Generation), Jimi Hazel (24-7 Spyz), Michael Alago (former A&R executive, Metallica, White Zombie), Michael “Kaves” McLeer (Lordz of Brooklyn), Jimmy G. Drescher (Murphy’s Law), Brian “Mitts” Daniels (ex-Madball), and Adam Blake (H2O) among others. You also hear from one of the documentary’s makers and a considerable veteran of the music business Seth Abrams.

Abrams commented:

“I’ve survived several severe, life-altering medical ordeals. When you strip away the doctors and family and friends’ support, it’s the music that gets you through it all. In my case, I specifically leaned on Suicidal Tendencies’ ‘You can’t Bring Me Down’. ‘Heavy Healing’ gives a voice to those who have relied on heavy, aggressive music to recover from any number of things — medical, emotional or both.”

The documentary’s director Howie Abrams added:

“As someone who has worked with underground bands for over four decades, I’ve encountered far too many musicians who are forced to cope with one disorder or another. That said, it’s incredible to see how they’ve been able to rely on the extreme music we grew up with to help them remain motivated and to recover. Our hope with the film is that others can draw just as much inspiration from the music as our interviewees have.”

Heavy Healing has been accepted into the ReelAbilities Film Festival in New York City, which is the world’s largest film festival dedicated to having a disability. The doc will screen at the festival two different times:

Heavy Healing will also be showing at the New Jersey Punk Rock Flea Market in Edison, New Jersey on April 11 (with a portion of the proceeds from said showing will be donated to Lou Koller’s Sweet Relief fund as he continues battling esophageal cancer), as well as at the Punk Rock Museum in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 18.

Neurosis releasing a new album was the best thing to happen in like, the last 10 months, let’s be honest. We didn’t see it coming, like we also didn’t necessarily see Aaron Turner (Sumac, Old Man Gloom, ex-Isis) becoming a permanent vocalist in the band coming, though it makes an apparent amount of sense. Both welcomed surprises, and ones that the band expanded more upon in a new interview with Bandcamp.

Part of the surprise is due to how silent the band has (understandably) been since their founding (and now former) vocalist Scott Kelly admitted to abusing his wife and kids back in 2022, to which the band OBVIOUSLY to fuck off for. Which leads us up to now, where they’ve since released An Undying Love For A Burning World on March 20 which features Turner, and added him to the band.

Vocalist/guitarist Steven Von Till and Turner drove the Bandcamp interview, with Till saying this about why they chose Turner to take Kelly’s place:

“We were thinking about how we could reinvent ourselves with the same energy that we reinvented ourselves with when I first joined, when we went from ‘The Word As Law’ to ‘Souls At Zero’. But we’re no longer young men. What kind of puzzles could we put in front of us to create that level of reinvention when time doesn’t move the same way it used to? It came down to finding the right energy.

“Honestly, the only hesitation about Aaron at first was that it seemed so obvious. And we weren’t convinced that he wasn’t too busy with his own work to just want to drop everything and join our dysfunctional old man band.”

When it comes to how Turner himself feels about the situation, he said this:

“It’s not like Steve and I had never spoken, and he all of a sudden asked me to join. Our paths became interwoven a long time ago. Numerous projects of mine released stuff on [Neurosis’s label] Neurot. I did some artwork for Neurosis. Neurosis took my old band [ISIS] on tour. I don’t know if Steve remembers this, but in the early 2000s, he proposed that I come up to the Bay Area and do some stuff with him and one of the guys from Enablers.

“This is a relationship of community where everybody is doing stuff with each other constantly, and there are always ideas flowing back and forth. In that way, it wasn’t surprising to me. I’d had an open dialogue with Steve for many years. At the same time, it was definitely a what-the-fuck moment for me because this is a band that I had been deeply influenced by in many ways, both musically and ideologically.”

They may no longer be younger men, but they still play like they’ve got all the energy in the world, and Aaron surely adds to that.

It seems unimaginable that we’ve lost yet another musician yet, here we are. And, of course it hurts. Yesterday (Saturday, March 29), Boysetsfire shared on their Instagram that their founding drummer, Matt Krupanski, has sadly passed away. No cause of death has been given.

The band’s statement reads:

“We hate to write this. Today the BSF family lost one of our founding members, our drummer Matt Krupanski.

“Words are failing us. Snapshots of memories skitter through our mind.
Picking him up for our first tour from high school which his parents had to give permission to leave early.

“Writing ATE and Rookie in his parents’ basement.
Smoking cigars on the beach in North Carolina after playing a very misleading Bed and Breakfast (no bed no breakfast).

“His weird ass drummer gang with Tucker from Thursday, Mike from the Souls and Brandon from Rise Against.

“Abusing Tony Victorys open bar tab in Chicago
Our intense madden games which often led to near violence (not even kidding).

“Matt playing guitar in Pussy Tim and the Mother Fuckers; a side project that wasn’t real at what we thought was a sparsely attending festival but when the lights came up there were 25000 people there.
There is so much more.

“We are so fucking sorry George. We are so sorry Carla. We are so sorry Marc and Melissa. And our heart breaks for his daughter Georgie. We are so sorry.

“We are gutted. Our hearts are shredded. We lost a brother today.

“We are planning on a fund raiser for Georgie maybe for college or whatever the family decides.

Absolutely gutted for sure. Even though Krupanski left the band in 2012 to pursue architecture and eventually become a Director of Engineering position at Hadley Exhibits Inc. Regardless of him leaving music, his impact will never be forgotten. RIP, Matt.

We knew it was coming, but that doesn’t make it any easier to watch. Imagine what it must have felt like live, in the moment! Black Label Society have not only been talking about their new album Engines of Demolition, which they just released yesterday, but mainly about the sweetly sad tune that closes it out—”Ozzy’s Song.” They made the choice to premiere the single by performing it live, and have now shared the official Justin H. Reich-directed music video for it, that you can watch below.

Of course doing a little something in honor of Ozzy was in the cards for BLS frontman Zakk Wylde, who was Ozzy’s bandmate for basically forever, was bound to happen. As he told São Paulo, Brazil’s 89 FM A Rádio Rock recently, it’s kind of been a longtime in the making. Or, at least, parts of it have been.

“ Yeah, I had the music written ’cause we’d been writing this album for the last three and a half years, almost four years. So, we stockpiled all these songs. And I was real happy with the way the music came out. And then I figured eventually I’ll finish the song. But then after we laid Ozzy to rest, when we got back home, we took a break from Pantera celebration [touring with the reformed Pantera]. I sat in a little library room in our house. I just put the headphones on at about one o’clock in the morning and I was looking at a book of Ozzy and I just wrote the lyrics. And that’s what came out.

“My wife would always be listening to it in the truck, Barbaranne, she’d be, like, ‘Babe, put on Ozzy’s song again.’ So that was pretty much just the working title. It’s just, like, well, it’s Ozzy’s song. So, people would always be asking, like, ‘I wonder since Zakk wrote a song for [late Pantera guitarist] Dimebag [Darrell Abbott],’ and now we sing it for [late Pantera drummer] Vinnie [Paul Abbott] as well, ‘with ‘In This River’, I wonder if Zakk will write a song for Ozzy on the new album.’ So, it’s only fitting. We just called it ‘Ozzy’s Song’. So that’s how we ended up with ‘Ozzy’s Song’.”

The squeaky wheel gets the grease, right? Or, I guess, the unliked mix gets the redo, in this instance. Boundaries released “Skies Cast Amber Black” a couple weeks ago to quite the bit of criticism from fans, who for whatever reason weren’t feeling the track’s original mix, which was done by Drew Fulk. The band’s vocalist Matt McDougal has been engaging in the discourse online since it all started, and now he’s back with a new mix and new commentary. Listen to it below, as well as on streaming services.

Here’s what McDougal had to say about this hot, fresh off the press-ass mix:

“Hey guys, i’ll try to keep this as brief as possible. The connection we have with people who listen to us has always been at the forefront of our intentions behind what we make. We love you guys and everyone who has ever bought a shirt or sang a lyric at a show or just listened at home, ultimately this doesn’t work without either of us, its 50% us 50% you in a weird type of way. Obviously we’ve seen how all over the place the reaction to the latest song mix has been.

“When we reached the finish line for turning in this latest song we had two mixes we were in love with and we were going back and forth over and over on which to put out. We felt the one that came out was something we identified with and love the sound of and are still completely willing to stay with. That being said there was the other mix that didn’t make the cut. We loved it just as much to the point where i was sending both to friends and asking them to pick one because we just couldn’t.

“In this thread i am putting the other mix, do you guys like this one more because we loved both and could be happy with either, especially if one makes our listeners happier, in a way that might make us like it even more. Just to be clear its the one that’s out or this one, there are no other versions we liked and we don’t want to bring this to anyone else to mix, that’s not fair to who we made this music with. I know this is a unique situation we’ve found ourselves in but we did not want to ignore how gentle and loving a lot of the reactions were to what we put out.

“It seemed to really come from the hearts of people this band means a lot to, that liked the song and wished they could like it even more. And also its obviously completely fine to not like either mix i’m not looking for people to feel like they need to say one is better to them, this is just such a specific situation where we happened to have two mixes we really liked haha. Anyways thanks for your time and continued support, ya’ll are our world. Also idk how to make posts with links in them and stuff so i just did my best.

“Truly and absolutely from my heart thank you guys for everything. From your patience to your feedback to the respect you’ve given us by being so flexible and kind. Another Saturday, another bit of sad news I have to share with you all because our world sucks. This time, it’s Manowar‘s founding guitarist Ross “The Boss” Friedman, who has unfortunately passed away at 72 after a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

The Metal Hall of Fame announced his passing yesterday (Saturday, March 27) in a Facebook post that reads as follows:

“It is with deep sadness that we confirm the passing of legendary guitarist, our dear friend, Metal Hall of Fame Inductee, and Global Metal Ambassador Ross “The Boss” Friedman.

“Ross was a pioneering force in both punk and heavy metal, best known as a founding member of The Dictators and Manowar. His powerful playing, unmistakable tone, and uncompromising spirit helped shape generations of musicians and fans around the world.

“Earlier this year, Ross publicly shared his diagnosis with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), facing it with the same courage and honesty that defined his life and career.

“Ross’s impact on music is immeasurable. From the raw energy of early punk to the epic scale of heavy metal, his work left a lasting mark on the genre and on everyone who experienced it.

Last month, Arch Enemy announced to the world that their new vocalist was now ex-Once Human frontwoman Lauren Hart. She was coming in to fill the void left by Alyssa White-Gluz’s departure last November and right away they released a new track with Hart’s vocals, “To The Last Breath”.

Of course people online were a mixed bag of reactions to Hart’s inclusion, but a lot of what people were going to judge her on was always going to be her live performances with the group. Now, with the band touring through China, we finally have some live footage of her fronting the band at Dongsan Live in Beijing.

It feels like we’ve been talking about a new King Diamond record for a while now. Too long, really. At least since 2022, if not well before that. Well, it sounds like we might finally be getting closer to that album’s release, according to King Diamond guitarist Andy La Rocque.

La Rocque recently appeared on the Pod Scum podcast (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), where discussion fell onto the new record. When asked about a possible 2026 release, he was hopeful that things could end up that way.

“I really hope so. That’s our goal. We have most of the songs. I sent [King Diamond], I think, eight songs, like, four years ago, and we decided to use three of those. And we actually played one live from those songs.

“As soon as he’s done with this stuff — he’s gotta write five songs, I believe, and he’s got a lot of the stuff already written down, with the lyrics and everything. As soon as that’s recorded and arranged from his side, we can put the right guitars on, the right drums, bass, and everything. So I really hope it won’t take very long before we can continue working on that. And if that’s the case, we can start recording soon, and during the summer, then we have a chance for it to be released at the very end of the year.”

Also during that interview, La Rocque explained how he tackles writing music for a King Diamond record versus how he does so for his own pieces.

“It depends. Nowadays, King usually has a request for me to play the song the way he would like it to be played. So I probably play my songs a little bit differently than his songs, because I know that, for example, he doesn’t like when I play the rhythms with a vibrato kind of thing at the end of a riff or whatever, because that might be interacting with his vocals that come on later.

“But on my songs, I just do what I feel is right to do. I mean, if it’s good for the song, it’s probably good. And if it doesn’t fit, when he puts the vocal on, I change it. But first of all, I just write what comes out of the heart. I don’t really care what other people think about the style or whatever. I just write my stuff, and it’s kind of based in the ’80s. I mean, standard tuning — we don’t tune down with King Diamond, so it’s standard tuning, pretty straightforward. And melodies are super essential. I think it’s so important to have melodies in the songs and create space for melodies, too, for the vocals. That’s really important.”

Hopefully we’ll know more about a potential King Diamond album release. Fingers crossed that it happens this year… Finally…

Coming this June, Napalm Death bassist Shane Embury is going to release his debut solo album Bridge To Resolution, giving fans a glimpse into a period of reflection and upheaval in his life.

According to Embury, the collection of eight songs was written and recorded during the nightmare period a few years ago when COVID-19 murdered millions and shut everything down for an extended period of time. As his livelihood and plans of going on the road evaporated, Embury chose to get introspective and question himself on the topics of identity, family and creativity. And he did so by using the psychological concept of “shadow integration” — the idea that self-discovery comes from confronting the darker parts of one’s personality.

The result is a solo album that follows Embury’s sojourn from despair into resolution. You can hear part of that journey by checking out the album’s first single “Spasm Prayer”. The clip of that is below.

Though we all know Embury for his work in extreme metal, Bridge To Resolution falls more into his personal appreciation for atmospheric goth and post-punk. Citing influences like Cocteau Twins, Killing Joke, and The Mission, what resulted was a span of songs that sees Embury experimenting with synthesizers, guitars, bass, and layered vocals throughout.

Ex-Cancer drummer Carl Stokes contributed to the project on the drums, while Crowbar, Paradise Lost, and Amorphis producer Simon Efemey handled, well, production. Other than that, the rest of the album is all Embury.

Bridge To Resolution will be released on June 5 via Dissonance Productions, but you can preorder your copy today.

Progressive black/viking metal outfit Enslaved are showing off their cred as salty dogs, as they released a pair of sea shanties earlier today. Recorded in collaboration with Bergen, Norway’s Storm Weather Shanty Choir, “Fire Marengo” and “Anna Lovinda” share a deeply Norwegian connection.

According to the band, “Fire Marengo” is a standard, traditional shanty while “Anna Lovinda” is different. That song was written by Norwegian sailor and cultural figure Erik Bye. The incorporation of the aforementioned choir is particularly special, because they’re the same choir that sails on the Statsraad Lehmkuhl, a great Bergen tall ship that still sails the world’s oceans.

Considering the fact that this sort of thing might not be the most common avenue for a band like Enslaved, the band explained why they chose to seek out this collaboration and produce these shanties.

“Enslaved was formed on the western edge of Norway, where mountains fall into the sea and history is carried by wind and tide. Bergen is not simply a coastal city; it is a threshold — between land and ocean, between myth and lived experience. The sea is not scenery here. It is memory, labour, departure and return.

“Among the most powerful living symbols of this heritage is Statsraad Lehmkuhl, the great Bergen tall ship that still sails the world’s oceans. Around this vessel lives and breathes the shanty tradition — songs born of rhythm, rope, salt, and collective effort. From this environment emerged Storm Weather Shanty Choir.

“Our connection to the ship began in 2014, when the Tall Ships Races concluded in Bergen. We were invited to compose and perform a commissioned piece on the deck of Statsraad Lehmkuhl. Metal echoed across the harbour that evening — a meeting of ancient wind-powered technology and modern amplified ritual. It felt less like contrast and more like continuity.”

Enslaved said they grew close with the choir, especially with the director of the ship’s foundation Haakon Vatle. Eventually, Enslaved said they were asked to play with the choir and today’s release stemmed from that.

“In November 2025, during the choir’s 20th anniversary concert in Bergen, we joined forces on the traditional “Fire Marengo” and the Norwegian shanty “Anna Lovinda,” written by the late sailor and cultural figure Erik Bye. The collaboration felt less like fusion and more like recognition — two expressions of the same coastal inheritance meeting at the centre.

“After the performance, it was clear that this convergence should not remain ephemeral. We met again in early 2026 to record the material — not as novelty, but as continuation

“Because at the centre — at mið — we find not isolation, but shared origin. Wind, rhythm, voice. The same pulse that once moved sails now moves amplifiers. The same call-and-response that coordinated labour now shapes modern ritual.

“The sea remembers. And so do we.”

Metalcore outfit August Burns Red announced the impending release of their newly announced album Season Of Surrender, coming out on June 5. It’s the band’s first full-length release since returning to Fearless Records last month.

Boasting 11 brand new tracks, the album also includes the previously released song “Behemoth”. Today’s announcement brought a second track to light — “The Nameless”. That particular track you can check out below.

Bassist Dustin Davidson spoke about the new track, calling it a “hard-hitting, heavy bruiser that doesn’t let up for one moment.”

“[‘The Nameless’] combines classic ABR elements with dark moody technical rhythms, and fast paced vocals to keep the intensity up for the full three minutes of the track. To me it showcases our roots of where we’ve come from, and the future path of where we’re heading.”

While Davidson addressed the song’s vibes, vocalist Jake Luhrs explained the lyrical content found within the track and what it means.

“Lyrically, ‘The Nameless’ is a song about not wasting your life away for the sake of acceptance and comfortability. Sometimes it takes detaching from what you’ve been told, or from the beliefs you are no longer aligned with, in order to face your own weaknesses. In doing so you can break free to live a life you are proud of.”

Last month, progressive doom metal band Elder announced their new album Through Zero was coming out on May 29. At the time, that was pretty much all the information we had. We had no single to get us hyped up even more (if that’s even possible), but now that’s changed. The band released the title track earlier today and it’s available to check out right now.

Speaking of the track, vocalist and guitarist Nick DiSalvo explained how it fits within the total Through Zero package:

“In a diverse album, the title track of our new album sits on the middle of the spectrum and is a perfect first impression of what’s to come. Dreamy, heavy, raw, electronic, there’s a bit of everything that makes this album special to us. Through Zero is about impermanence, coming to terms with mortality and the long struggle to not only make peace but to find a sort of solidarity with the dead. The more time passes, the more this theme returns to me, and always in a new light – much as our music always returns in a slightly changed state reflecting who we are becoming.”

I want to know who decided “V” was the new “U”, but I guess that’s just how things go these days. Such is the case anyway for Hellripper’s post-album release and the single that coincided with it, “Blakk Satanik Fvkkstorm”.

This new single is described by Hellripper’s mastermind/dude that plays everything on the recording James McBain as a tale of witchcraft and possession through the lens of some schlocky horrof flixrd.

“‘Blakk Satanik Fvkkstorm’ is “a tale of witchcraft and possession set in a bleak moorland village inspired by Victorian Gothic Literature – particularly the ghost story of ‘Thrawn Janet’ by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson. Lyrically, to match the vibe and energy of the track, I wanted my interpretation of the tale to feel like an 80’s horror film. This is perhaps the most “full-on” track on the album, and that’s reflected in its shorter length. It’s motor-charged, black ‘n’ roll in the vein of Venom, with a dose of classic heavy metal for good measure!”.

Earlier today, Horse The Band frontman Nathan Winneke revealed that he’s been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) and as a result, he needs help covering his medical bills since he can’t work at the moment. As a result, it’s time for our community to do the right thing and break out our wallets to help an artist in need, as he’s since launched a GoFundMe page to help crowdfund his medical expenses.

Now, I’m not gonna go on a political tangent about how it’s criminal someone needs to go to GoFundMe to cover health costs when they live in the most wealthy nation on the planet and could have their needs met, but it should go without saying at this point. Still, Nathan needs our help and here’s his explanation of what went down and what he needs:

“My name is Nathan, and I’m reaching out for support as I navigate life with Multiple Sclerosis. Since my diagnosis, the medical bills have piled up quickly, and the illness has made it impossible for me to continue working. On top of managing my health, I also have a family who depends on me, which makes this journey even more challenging.

“The funds raised will go directly toward my ongoing treatments, medications, and the monthly expenses that have become difficult to manage. Every bit of support will help ease the financial burden on my family and allow me to focus on my health and well-being. Horse The Band reunited back in 2024 after taking a five year hiatus to play a buncha shows the following year celebrating the 20th anniversary of their 2005 album The Mechanical Hand. They’ve since been playing shows here and there, with plans to play this year’s Aftershock Festival in October. They also have plans to go on tour with Dance Gavin Dance, The Fall of Troy, Wolf & Bear, and Novelists starting in May. There’s no news at this time as to what Winneke’s diagnosis will do to those plans, but once we know we’ll keep you informed.

Earlier today, it was announced that Halford would be working with the Shat on a reimagined version of the classic Judas Priest song “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’.” According to the announcement, the track will feature “Shatner’s unmistakable spoken-word intensity with Halford’s soaring, powerhouse vocals, creating a bold and unexpected take on one of heavy metal’s most enduring tracks.”

I, for one, can’t wait for the absolutely unhinged Shatner energy this project’s going to have — especially now that Halford’s going to be involved. In a prepared statement, Shatner said he was thrilled to have someone like the “Metal God” involved in his project.

“I’ve always been drawn to the energy and storytelling of heavy metal. Working with Rob on this track brings that intensity to life in a way that feels both timeless and entirely new.”

Apparently, the album’s going to have a who’s who of names attached to it. We’re talking the likes of Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Osbourne), Ritchie Blackmore, Edgar Froese (Tangerine Dream), Wayne Kramer (MC5), and Henry Rollins (Black Flag, The Rollins Band).

Likewise, it sounds like Halford is excited to be involved as well. I mean, I would put money on the fact that Halford at least enjoys Star Trek in some capacity, so it would be like working with a hero. But that might be a little projection on my part…

“One life I’m gonna live it up!’ William Shatner is boldly doing that more than ever, and I am honored to reinforce this message with him – ‘taking flight I said I’ll never get enough!’”

There’s not a whole lot else to go on about this record. It’s currently in production and it will feature other high-profile collaborations and reworking of classic metal songs.

If this isn’t the best/worst thing to come out in the metal scene whenever it does, I’ll be shocked.

In what might be one of the most bonkers advertisements for a corn-based snack you’ll probably ever see, Canadian rockers Nickelback were featured alongside pop star Megan Thee Stallion for the return of the Cheetos Flamin’ Hot Dill Pickle flavor.

The whole conceit about the ad is that Stallion is filming a music video and snacking on Cheetos when she learns the dill pickle flavor’s been discontinued. Upset, she says she wants to bring the “pickle back” and that the assistant on set should just “do it”. Naturally, she misheard Stallion and got Nickelback for a duet instead. What follows is a totally bonkers series of events involving a song called “Pickle’s Back” that sees Stallion doing her thing while Nickelback plays a Cheetos-based version of “How You Remind Me”.

Then bash cut to Stallion and Nickelback storming the Cheetos warehouse to steal the Flamin’ Hot Dill Pickle Cheetos. What follows is a wild chase through a city that ends in a massive Cheetos dust-filled explosion. People go grab the snack, everyone’s stoked, and the suits at Frito Lay decide to bring the flavor back.

Seriously, you should check out the fever dream below. It’s maybe not the most metal thing posted on this site today, but it will be among the weirdest.

Thrash metal titans Anthrax have a new record coming out later this year. It’s been 10 years since the release of their previous record For All Kings, so people are curious what this new offering will be like. During a recent interview with Hot Metal, drummer Charlie Benante shed a little light.

“There’s elements of the [album] that are very abrasive. There’s elements of the record that … wow, we haven’t gone in this area. And a lot of it, it’s a more grown-up kind of sound. I don’t mean that in a way where it sounds like a Little River Band or anything but it’s just we’re more mature now, and I think the writing shows it. It’s so good. And I’m not gonna say ‘it sounds like this’, ‘it sounds like that’. It’s just a collection of songs where each one stands up right next to the other one.  

“There will be three songs that come out before the record comes out. So you will get samples of what this record is before it comes out.”

Originally there was talk that the album would be out around May, but that’s actually not happening. We learned earlier this month that the new record will finally see the light of day in or about September.

According to Benante, the choice to move things back wasn’t the result of any issue in the writing or production side of things, but rather a managerial issue as the band recently changed things up with their team.

“It’s been pushed back because we recently changed the team, management and stuff like that. We wanted the new people coming in, the new team coming in, [to] really know what’s going on, just kinda of have more of a strategic plan.”

Honestly, it’s been a long time coming since we all had some new Anthrax. It’s been far too long if you ask me. Just a handful of months remain, so now all that’s left to do is wait a little while longer.

For a band that’s been doing this for 50 years, Judas Priest shoes very little sign of slowing down. I mean, just listen to Invincible Shield and tell me they don’t absolutely kill it. Well, according to guitarist Richie Faulkner, they’re still moving full-speed ahead working on their 21st album.

Faulkner let the update slip while appearing on The Metal Voice to chat about the band, the upcoming documentary, and more.

“We’ve started recording it. Yeah, we were in the studio for a month in February laying the foundation. I don’t know if I’m allowed to say that, but I’ve said it.”

Whoops. Well, the cat’s out of the bag now, so here we are. Twenty-one albums is impressive, to say the least, but again — this is Judas Priest we’re talking about.

Speaking of the documentary, Faulkner said The Ballad of Judas Priest is a must-watch for fans.

“Well, it’s really well put together, and it goes through the story, obviously, of where they started and what they went through and everything like that and talks to different people about Priest’s influence on them. And there’s a great bit in it where they go back to, I think it’s a working man’s club in Aston [United Kingdom] or somewhere like that, where they played their first show, and Ian’s [Hill, Priest bassist] in there and he’s sitting down, and it’s still there. And he’s in the club, and you can see the stage where they performed and everything. It’s still there, man. And it’s great, as a fan, to see that stuff. I haven’t seen that stuff before. So it’s really good. When it comes out, you should definitely check it out.”

The Judas Priest documentary is co-directed by Sam Dunn and Tom Morello and will make its North American debut at the annual Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Film Festival in Toronto, which will be running from April 23 to May 3.

Though the film debuted earlier this year at the 76th Berlinale – Berlin International Film Festival, this will be the first time North American audiences will get to catch the story of Judas Priest’s rise to metal godhood over the last 50+ years.

After hinting at it a couple days ago, Norwegian black metal outfit Dimmu Borgir not only released a new track titled “Ulvgjeld & Blodsodel”, but they also announced the impending release of their next album Grand Serpent Rising.

Set for release on May 22 via Nuclear Blast Records, Grand Serpent Rising is the band’s first new album since 2018’s Eonian. Featuring 13 new tracks, vocalist Shagrath said this new offering was a particularly exciting one for him and the rest of the band.

“I truly feel we’ve outdone ourselves musically on this album. It’s been a long and demanding process, but seeing how it all came together makes it incredibly rewarding. Grand Serpent Rising reflects every era of Dimmu Borgir – This album carries echoes of every chapter of Dimmu Borgir’s legacy – I believe our fans will recognize that, and find something within it that truly resonates.”

As for the album’s title, guitarist Silenoz explains why it fits so well for what the band’s offering.

“It fits perfectly. Dimmu Borgir is a leviathan of a band on a grand scale and we are rising once again. While the serpent represents evil to some, for us it symbolizes something else: renewal, growth, knowledge, and liberation. Shedding our skin, so to speak. And let’s not forget that February 2026 marks the end of the Year of the Snake, roughly the same moment this album was completed.”

When we last posted about death metal outfit Frozen Soul, they’d released a single featuring My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way as a featured vocalist. This time around, they’re back with a new single and a new collab with Machine Head frontman Robb Flynn.

The new track in question — “Invoke War” — is a heavy hitter by any measure. Beefy riffs, thunderous rhythm, and the kind of dark and deep vocals you’d expect from Frozen Soul. According to frontman Chad Green, the track is all about perseverance.

“It’s about getting back up. It’s meant to be the anthem to your day, the background music to your story, the extra weapon you might need to help conquer whatever you’re struggling with. Robb’s lyrics add a whole new layer of power and emotion to the song. This is a follow up to ‘Arsenal of War,’ which was about remembering and carrying the light and memories of your lost loved one with you.”

Hardcore stalwarts Pro-Pain aren’t slowing down at all. After coming back and announcing their first new album in 11 years, this quartet of old dogs show they’ve still got plenty of pissed off energy to throw right in your face.

Released as the second single off their forthcoming album Stone Cold Anger, due out on May 15 via Napalm Records, “March Of The Giants” is roughly four minutes of righteous fury. Speaking of the track itself, vocalist/bassist Greg Meskil said the track’s all about standing your ground against oppressive forces.

“‘March Of The Giants’ [is] a song about standing tall and moving forward together to challenge oppressive forces and create real change. It was the first track completed for the new album, written with assistance from Eric Klinger and our former guitarist, Matt Sheridan.”

According to Meskil, the new album focuses on a lot of the fucked up energy that’s going around the planet today, stating that it was “forged from global tension and the rising demand for accountability.” Shouldn’t surprise anyone, really.

Atlanta-based deathcore band Left To Suffer are laying down the tracks for their next studio effort. We know that because they posted about their time in the studio with producer Josh Schroeder on the ‘gram. Thanks, social media!

In the short clip they posted, you can hear some brutally heavy shit going on through the monitors. Sounds like an absolutely gross break down, if you ask me.

Whatever they’re working on, it will be their fourth full-length effort and their first official release since 2024’s Leap Of Death. There’s not much else to go off of regarding this news, so yeah — they’re in the studio. That means new music is on the way. Get hyped.

Swedish death metal outfit Vomitory have a little over two weeks until the release of their forthcoming album In Death Throes, so naturally they dropped another brutal new track. This time, it’s “Wrath Unbound”.

Released alongside a Marcus Svensson-directed music video, drummer Tobias Gustafsson said “Wrath Unbound” was written from the ground up to get people moving wherever they hear the song.

“‘Wrath Unbound’ is inspired by dark powers and built for headbanging! This is probably the heaviest song on the album. The catchy melody combined with lots of double bass drums will roll over you like a tank. Musically it’s influenced by British giants like Iron Maiden, Bolt Thrower, and Carcass. Lyrically, I don’t really know where [vocalist/bassist] Erik [Rundqvist] found the inspiration. Probably somewhere far, far away…”

It seems like we’ve got another somewhat anti-consumer thing that people have to consider when buying anything they enjoy, as Black Label Society becomes another band with an anticipated album that’s offering a limited digital bonus track. You may recall that Lamb Of God did this with Into Oblivion and the bonus track “Wire” earlier this month and it’s looking like BLS’ Engines Of Demolition will follow suit.

According to the band, the digital deluxe edition of the forthcoming album will feature two exclusive tracks: “Broken Pieces (Unblackened)” and “Back To Me (Unblackened)”. The catch, however, is that the digital deluxe edition is only available for pre-order until midnight tomorrow. After that, you’re shit outta luck.

It’s very similar to the situation with Lamb Of God’s Into Oblivion, which confused fans so much that the band had to issue a statement explaining what was going on with the bonus track.

With this Black Label Society release, fans are vacillating between frustration, anger, and confusion over the bonus track situation. Some are complaining that they only buy physical media so they were screwed from the start, while othesssady preordered the standard edition because it was the only one available at the time feel like they were duped. It’s not a good look, really.

For the longest time, bonus tracks were used as a way to incentivize people to buy the physical version. Now, it’s just an attempt for bands and record labels to tap into consumers’ sense of FOMO and pushing them into preordering a more expensive version of the album.

And though Black Label Society is also offering some cool physical versions of the album, including a limited edition vinyl that includes even more unique bonus tracks in “Name In Blood (Unblackened)” and “Lord Humungus (Unblackened)”, it might have soured some people to the entire situation.

In a time when people are getting pinched financially, it’s totally reasonable to see why people would be frustrated by this whole ordeal.

Earlier today, British metalcore outfit Sylosis released a live video to get folks hyped for the band’s impending month-long North American tour with Bleed From Within, Great American Ghost and Life Cycles. The clip features The New Flesh track “All Glory, No Valour”.

Filmed at London’s O2 Forum, the band says this new clip features some wild footage of their most impressive headlining show ever. The band say they hope to carry that energy across the pond for their next run.

“‘All Glory, No Valour’ is a collective favourite from The New Flesh. Since the early demos, the song always stood out as one of the most aggressive that the band has ever put together. Instead of a standard video, we agreed that releasing a live version of it at some point would be best so listeners could really connect with the energy of the track.

“Filmed at our biggest headline show to date at London’s O2 Forum in Kentish Town, this video really captures the essence of our live performance. Catch us live across North America over the next couple of months with Bleed From Within and across UK & Europe early next year with Whitechapel. We’ll see you soon.”

Sylosis’ North American tour will kick off next week on April 2 in Worcester, Massachusetts and will come to an end on May 7 in New York City. There will be 27 stops in total, with some of the shows taking place in Philly, Chicago, Denver, and Baltimore, among other locales. Ready or not, Slayer guitarist Kerry King is gearing up to get working on his sophomore solo album and follow up to his 2024 debut From Hell I Rise. And whether that excites you or not probably depends on whether you like Slayer lite or are holding out hope for some of the more punky elements of that record to make an appearance on the second one.

News of King’s plans came about from an announcement from talent agency Independent Artist Group (IAG) who revealed that King, Slayer, and Mastodon all recently signed with the organization for representation outside of North America.

IAG global head of artist development Nick Storch and global touring executive vice president Mike Arfin both expressed excitement regarding the signings.

“Slayer, Mastodon and Kerry King have passionate fanbases based on their incredible artistry, discographies and track record of extraordinary live performances. We can’t wait to get started building upon their tremendous international popularity to create memorable tours that match the scale and legacy they have created.”

King’s solo band is comprised of well, King, as well as Slayer drummer Paul Bostaph, Death Angel vocalist Mark Osegueda, ex-Machine Head/Vio-lence guitarist Phil Demmel, and HELLYEAH bassist Kyle Sanders.

King’s debut album was largely okay, though I personally felt it didn’t really separate himself from his later Slayer output. Which is to say it was kinda meh. Considering how talented we all know King really is, I’m holding out hope that this second attempt is a banger straight through.
