Directors Note on the MEX Office Relocation

After over 15 years in the Annerley head office, MEX is moving!

We have found a new premises that will serve us and hopefully our customers better. More centrally located in newstead in Brisbane. So, now we are closer to the city, hotels and food options. We will have improved training facilities and a very fast internet connection to make it easier to serve everyone. Parking may be a bit harder, but we could not have everything.

Our new office will be 64 Commercial Road in Newstead and we will be operating from there on the 5th of September, 2016.

This relocation will occur on the 2nd of September, 2016 and we expect this to be a smooth transition, allowing us to continue to provide high quality sales and support services as per usual.

The MEX phone number will remain the same at +61 7 3392 4777 as well as the Fax number of +61 7 3392 4888.

Our address details are as follows:

64 Commercial Road, Newstead, 4006

P.O.Box 3322, Newstead, 4006

We look forward to this change and settling into our new office, taking MEX into the future.

If you have any questions about this move please contact our Admin Team at admin@mex.com.au.

Thanks,
Directors Note on the Release of MEX Version 15

MEX 15 is here.

The newest, and I think the best ever version of MEX, has hit the streets. Released on May the 4th, V15 has really been accepted well by the users with over 1,000 already upgraded and taking full advantage of the new version.

I think it is the best version ever because of two things. It looks great and is super-fast. The boys and girls at MEX have really created a piece of software that I am immensely proud of.

Also, it has reduced the requirement of Microsoft Silverlight. As we have gone for a complete web based front end. We have even added in all the things users wanted from version 12 into it, such as keystrokes, Instead of having to use a mouse.

The testing period has been over 6 months and went through a rigorous beta and testing stage before going out live. So, we feel it is the cleanest release in our history.

To upgrade just go into version 14 and on the home screen you will find an Upgrade to MEX 15 button that will give you access to the upgrade. Our support team has prepared an upgrade guide that you can follow, here’s the link: Upgrade to MEX Version 15

There are quite a few new things that have been added. And these can be found in our MEXV15 Release Notes.

Also, there has been some talk about the iPad app, as some users want to know whether we are going to still build on the iPad app platform or just use the web version inside safari.

Well I can allay any fears, MEX will support the iPad app for as long as there is an iPad or iPhone. And we shall be looking at bringing out a new release of the iPad app in the near future with extra functionality added in, and all the other technical stuff that will be required.

So, please enjoy the new version of MEX. We love it and hope that you will too.

Steve Ninnes
New MEX iOS App Version 2.4 Released December 2015

A number of bug fixes and enhancements have been applied to the MEX iOS app V 2.4 released on the 14th of December 2015.

With this version comes the new crash and usage reporting functionality that will be used to better track any user outages. The same functionality will also be used in the new version of MEX scheduled to be released early next year.

The crash reporting prioritizes error’s based on how many users are experiences them and how often they are experiencing them. This allows MEX to fix up the issues that are a priority to our customers and also hopefully get to them before they need to pick up the phone and tell us about it.

If the on screen keyboard overlaps with a field in focus, the screen will now automatically adjust so the field is correctly in view.

General stability enhancements when losing connection or switching between connection types (3G to WiFi)

Reports

When previewing a report there is now a hyperlink directly to the PDF down the bottom left of the screen.

The Bug Fixes for this release include:

Stocktakes

MEX Today

MEX Directors Note December 2015

Rather than a summation of the year, I will look into what is about to happen in the near future.

Two big things that I hope will make your life with MEX even better.

Firstly, a new version of MEX and FleetMEX are due to drop early in the New Year. This version will have the same backbone of the old MEX systems and will be compatible with version 12 and 14 of MEX and version 5 of FleetMEX.

So, you can choose to use any version of MEX that you want to. We understand that change is always not the best thing and so we have made sure our new version is backward compatible with the older versions.

However, have a look at the new one. We will have it online soon and you can play to your heart’s content with it.

What is different in this new version? Well not much really, it is pretty much the old version in a new skin, but we have added a few little things that people have wanted and if you feel so, then use them as well.

For example, one thing that pops to mind is the fact that PM’s now accommodate A B C servicing. For example, say a car has the following servicing intervals; 3,000 km then 10,000 km, then 18,000 km then 25,000 km. Ok, I know these are a bit silly in their intervals. But as an example MEX can accommodate this easily. As this has been requested a lot and it will now be a part of the new system.

It is also completely web based, with no more reliance on Microsoft Silverlight and on top of that performance has been improved.

There are actually lots of little things that have occurred where we have tweaked and changed up things. But in essence it still looks the same, drives the same and does the same job.

This will be coming out in the first quarter of 2016, and we are currently deep into testing and have been for the last 3 months. This new version will not be released until it is ready.

Secondly, we are opening a UK office in March of 2016. This is due to the rise in the number of customers we now have spread throughout Europe, Africa and in the Middle East.

We will have a full sales and support team there, that can accommodate all of your needs for support, training and consulting on MEX and FleetMEX. With the added bonus for Australian and New Zealand customers in having extended support hours. Instead of only 9 ½ hours coverage a day we will now be offering support from 8.30 AEDT through to 2 am the next day. So, the window of support will be greatly increased in the coming year.

The office is seen as being a permanent setup, as we now service a large number of customers in different time zones and will be primarily manned by our Australian staff. We will be seconding people to the UK for periods of time, so the people you will be dealing with are all seasoned campaigners with MEX.

Lastly, I’d like to wish all our customers and Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Don’t be too naughty!

July eNews Directors Note 2015

Never stop, never give in. Good maintenance is just a continuous role of looking after our equipment. Maintenance staff are the guys behind the scenes who keep things running by doing the things the rest of the operation don’t see.

But don’t let that stop you from always looking to improve your operation. Ask yourself, how can I improve my maintenance efforts and get better at how we do it? Why shouldn’t people see the hard work you put in and why shouldn’t your staff know the amount of effort it takes to keep things running? Well the simple answer is that they should already know. You just need to make them see it.

To create transparency associated with your operation, you need to follow these three steps:

Always have an effective maintenance plan and be sure to promote it.

Carry out this maintenance plan

Always be on the lookout for ways to get better at what you are doing.

That is about it!

If you are an engineer of some sort, mechanical plumber, electrical, or carpenter, it really doesn’t matter the point is you know your trade, you know how things work and you know how to get them to work. So why not share the gift of knowledge to others as to how to make it work?

We can all have these thoughts about how to make a place, company, and corporation work better, but they won’t listen as in most cases politics is too huge within the organisation. That’s why you need to market the way you do your maintenance in a way that you are recognised for your effort, and that spotlight can do wonders for your maintenance operation.

As I say, maintenance people need to be a bit political as well, but of course in the right manner.

Sell your service. Put together a yearly plan up (You can do this with MEX) and stick it on the wall, make sure people know about it and you say this is the Preventative Maintenance we are going to do.

And then do your best to carry this plan out. There is no doubt that this approach will make a difference.

Simple as that. Call or chat me if you want to know more.

New MEX iOS App Version 2.2 Released July 2015

A number of bug fixes and enhancements have been applied to the MEX iOS app V 2.2 released on the 6th of July 2015.

The main enhancements in this release is the introduction of the App View. Giving a new easy to read view to the Work Orders, Stocktakes, Issue Return and Asset Readings listings. App View was designed from the ground up, making the screen easier to read under direct sunlight and is intended for those out on the job.

The main Bug Fixes for this release include:

General

When entering a decimal into a numeric field, MEX iOS will no longer incorrectly round it to many decimal places.

Security

Many security mappings from MEX 14 have now been correctly mapped to MEX iOS.

MEX Mobile

When closing a Work Order from a Request, the Request’s completed checkbox is now correctly ticked.

Closing an Inspection and syncing it to MEX 14 will now work as expected.

The all new App View in a Stocktake

Do note that you will need to be on the latest build of MEX (Build 17) in order to access these listings.
