Marikina Bike Lanes

Have you roamed around Marikina through its improved bike lanes? Lately, it has takenover the internet because of its aesthetic vibes and unique bike paths.

Though bike lanes in Marikina are not new, the power of the internet through trends made waves and reminded people, even those non-residents of the city, of this unique experience of roaming Marikina through its renowned bike paths.

It all started when an online post featured the Simeona bike trail, which is directly beside a creek without fences. Though it was seen as unsafe, the curiosity of the people, even the city residents who were unfamilar with the path, was enough for them to take the trip and visit the site. Well, that includes me.

I never knew we had something like this in our own city, so visiting it myself was really very interesting which led me to explore more of what we had been missing for years.

And true enough, something more came. A bike path going through a tunnel - the Goodfriend bridge near the Goodrich village. And when I posted my video, mixed reactions were shared. The more exciting part here is that the city has just made a specific office (Marikina Bikeways Office) just to improve the bike lanes, so plans were already in place, and actions to restore and develop everything were soon to be implemented.

I was blessed enough to be invited to the city's bike lanes lighting event and see the more lighted bike trails in person. It should serve the bikers with safer and more accessible bike paths in terms of time, so we can use it even in the wee hours.

Aside from lights, paved and cleaner paths were done, bollards were installed, newly painted cements and walls were seen, plants were planted on some restored areas, and even specialized railings were installed on the creekside bike path for additional safety.

A lot of things still need to be developed, but seeing the actions taken is already a good head start in moving further.

Junior Regional Badminton 2025 Super 750 Luzon at Vigan

In partnership with JPA Sports, we covered this national badminton tournament that has been nurturing the grassroots talents of our country in terms of this racket sport. And it just happens to happen in one of the most iconic cities here in the Philippines, Vigan City, in Ilocos Sur.

The Junior Regional Badminton 2025 Super 750 (Luzon leg) was supported by the local government, making it FREE ADMISSION for all. It all happened inside the new Chavit Coliseum making it one of the best hosts to date of the JRB 2025. The Coliseum was spacious, air-conditioned, well-lit, neat, and iconic. With its beehive-inspired center lighting, I am pretty sure this will be remembered pretty well.

Though cut short due to the typhoon coming, our experience was a breath of fresh air. Walking on Calle Crisologo, eating Ilocos empanada, and seeing Kalesa still being used as a mode of transportation, experiencing the authentic Filipino traditions were something to recollect.

Europe Tour

Never expected this but hey, we roamed some countries of Europe including Czech Republic, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, and France! This a summary of our trip since I was more focused on doing content each day uploading a video same-day mostly of a meal but also did a museum tour at the end. If you wanna see them, I'll put those links at the end of this article.

Wurzburg residence (palace)

This 12-day European tour started from the Manila International Airport (MIA) going to DOHA, Qatar airport for about 8-9 hours then to Prague for another 5-6 hours. They were long flights but the Qatar Airways entertainment kept us company even with complimentary fast wifi on board.

CZECH REPUBLIC (Prague & Karlovy Vary)

First city was at Prague and we stayed at the Uno Prague hotel. Breakfast buffet was always complimentary - in all of the hotels actually. We visited places like the Prague castle, Old royal palace, a lot of cathedrals and basilicas, and their Old town where the Astronomical clock can also be found.

We also visited a UNESCO World Heritage Site Karlovy Vary which is a super relaxing place to visit where world-famous icons spend their vacations too. The place is known for its natural thermal springs where the healing water is believed to be found.

GERMANY (Nuremberg. Wurzburg, Frankfurt, and Cologne)

Upon arriving at Germany's Arvena Reichsstadt hotel in Nuremberg we visited the city's medieval castle including some huge cathedrals and churches and did not miss eating an authentic German sausage in the Heilig Geist Spital restaurant.

We went to Wurzburg exploring the Wurzburg Residence with some chappel, bridge, and fortress before heading to Frankfurt and seeing their timber houses, iconic town hall, plus some more churches and cathedrals.

Before heading out to the next city on the next country we also visited the Gothic Cathedral of Cologne staying at the InteCity hotel in Cologne.

NETHERLANDS (Roermond, Amsterdam, Holland-Volendam-Keukenhof, and Rotterdam)

From the Steigenberger airport hotel, we went to a shopping place called Designer Outlet Roermond at Roermond then to Amsterdam to check out how some diamonds are made at the Royal Coster Diamonds. We also went for a Canal cruise which was quite a very relaxing experience.

We encountered the windmills of Zaanse Schans and visited a cheese & clogs facorty in Holland, strode a fisherman village named Volendam, saw the Tulips garden of Keukenhof which is one of the world's largest flower gardens, and ended the Netherlands visit with the modern cube-shape houses at Rotterdam.

BELGIUM (Brussels & Ghent)

After having breakfast at the Van Der Valk hotel we went straight to the Heysel Plateau to see the Atomium at Brussels. We also saw the Grand place, one of world's beautiful squares and Mennekin Pis before heading out to Ghent and explore more the city's castle, churches, town hall.

FRANCE (Paris)

From the Evergreen Laurel hotel in Levallois, Paris, we did another river cruise along the Seine River which happens to be the ones who also serviced all the athletes last Paris Olympics 2024. Yes, we rode the same boats as the olympians. Goals!. Of course, we did not miss seeing the Arc du Triomphe, Galleries La Fayette, and the Eiffel Tower. Well, there was a lot to see here but these are just the famous ones.

By the way, we tried escargots from Chez Edouard restaurant which tastes like pesto!

Our trip was capped by visiting one of the most beautiful museums in the world, the Palais Garnier. This is the inspiration behind The Phantom of the Opera & where Vicky Belo and Hayden Kho got married. Bonjour!

Sa bawat episode, mararanasan ang kakaibang saya ng isang scientific expedition habang binibigyang-pansin ang kahalagahan ng innovation sa mga lokal na komunidad. Collaboration with JPA Sports just started this year 2024 and a lot of things happened already. From featuring Joaquin himself offering his badminton goods, doing car raid which he is known for, and covering badminton tournaments was a few of them.

But the one that has gone a long way was covering and featuring badminton tournaments this year.

JPA Sports is the abbreviation of its owner Joaquin P. Alcantara offering badminton stuff from location to location and court to court marketing everything every time. He is known for always having badminton stocks every time you'll see him and most of the time, he has what you need on the back of his car and maybe even more.

One of my favorite dishes to eat especially when going out is this chicken tonkatsu of Tokyo Tokyo. There was even a time that I was ordering this for consecutive days and be delivered right at our house even if it was the only thing I will buy. I was pretty much amused by it because it makes me want to eat vegetables which is a thing rare for me (well, aside from them being mixed in some main dishes like burgers and flavored rice). When I eat this dish, I can eat more amount of veggies than rice so I feel more nourished than usual after eating.

DIY Chicken Tonkatsu

To be honest, it was a costly thing to do. So upon thinking of other ways to experience and eat it more but would save me money, I decided to make my own version of it. And surprisingly on doing this, I was shocked by how similar the taste ended up. It was super close to the original! So happy! It seems I would be making my own then from now on (hehe). Sharing all the procedures and ingredients here below:

For the Chicken Tonkatsu

Ingredients:

- Chicken (breast part)
- Egg(s)
- Breading/bread crumbs

- Pepper

Procedure:

1. Beat the egg in a container
2. Dip every chicken in the egg mixture
3. Roll every piece of chicken on the breading mix with pepper
4. Then deep fry

For the mix vegetables

Ingredients:

- Cabbage
- Carrot

- Onion (white)
- Pepper

- Butter

Procedure:

1. Saute the chopped white onions with butter
2. Add the chopped cabbage and carrots
3. Put a pinch or two of pepper
4. Then let it simmer for about a minute

For the Tonkatsu sauce

Tonkatsu sauce

Ingredients:

- Ketchup
- Worcestershire sauce

- Soy sauce

- Brown sugar
- Pepper

Procedure:

1. Put 1/2 cup of ketchup in a container
2. Mix 1/4 cup of Worcestershire sauce to it
3. Add 1/6 cup of soy sauce too
4. Put 2 spoons of brown sugar

5. A pinch or two of pepper

6. Then mix thoroughly

How to make a tomato-based nacho dip

I like cheese in pizzas, burgers, and pastas, but seldom with my nachos.. well, if there is no other option, I will, but when dips and sauces are concerned (just for me), tomato-based will always win. For now, I will share with you guys our homemade nacho dip recipe which is to crave for. I literally destroy bags of nacho chips when we make this and to think that this contains a lot of vegetables esp. tomatoes, who would not want that, right?

Never have I imagined that this is just this easy to make. The ingredients are simple and very accessible to have. You even might have all the items you need right now in your kitchen. Here is the video below. I hope you find it useful/helpful.

Ingredients:

- Tomato paste

- Chopped tomatoes

- Chopped white onions

- Chopped red bell pepper

- Butter

- Chicken broth (cubes)

- Salt

- Pepper

- Water (to balance its consistency)

Optional for this version:

- Green chili (Jalapeno is the perfect choice)

Kitchen utensils:

- Slicing board

- Knife

- Cooking pan

- Spatula

- Container bowls

Step by step process:

1. Heat the cooking pan.

2. Melt the butter

3. Saute the veggies then add the seasonings and the flavorings

4. Mix it a little and wait for the veggies to be cooked

5. Finish it by adding some amount of water for your desired dip texture

6. Then let it simmer for some minutes

A simple dip like this is a game-changer for me when it comes to eating esp. with snacks. And just to share, there is an entire industry making tons of profit creating different dips like this for different kinds of food that has flourished over the years. Hungry Joe (Marikina) is located at Parang, Marikina just beside the Parang playground - E. Rodriguez Street. They are inside the Villa Leonora establishment which serves as their main entrance.

They have both alfresco and indoor dining which is very flexible if you prefer A/C'ed or outdoor nature dining. The vibe is very relaxed and homey which adds to the place's charm, not that intimidating to visit.

Serving a variety of dishes that includes all-day breakfast meals, sandwiches, milk tea, rice meals, and other desserts & rice bowls, they are more popular for having the unlimited chicken wings at a very affordable price that even comes with unlimited rice, iced tea, nachos, and fries.

The fries were salty enough even without dipping them on the cheese sauce so it was a good indication to me that it was good. The toppings on the nachos were generous as well and we really enjoyed it. Pumunta kami nang gutom so masarap siya. Haha!

Among the given above, Yangnyeom flavor was a standout for me. Sarap! Manamis-namis anghang. Our second round of flavors were buffalo and crispy sriracha and they were on point as well. Mahilig tayo sa maanghang so bias tayo dun. Hehe.

We also tried their desserts which were the strawberry graham, mango graham, and choco lava cake (from left to right in the photo above). Goods din to lahat especially for their price na sobrang abot kaya. Hinding hindi kayo manghihinayang na i-try. If I were to choose among the three if limited ang budget, go for the choco lava cake. The gooey texture caught me off-guard in a good way.

Personally, I am very happy knowing the place na meron pa lang ganitong kainan malapit samin especially we occasionally play badminton sa court nila within the same establishment - Villa Leonora.

With their package that includes unlimited everything.. chicken wings, iced tea, rice, nachos, and fries.. sobrang sulit. We were very full after eating na hindi na talaga namin kaya kumaen pa that moment.

One of their highlights is having an A/C'ed dining area dahil summer ngayon at sobrang init kaya sugod na dito. Haha! And with their plantito and plantita-friendly surroundings, napaka chill ng place. Very nice for some catch-ups and yung biglaang food trips.

Actually ang lakas maka "secret" nung place dahil medyo tago yung lugar but I think they won't be a secret that long. ;)

Places we visited near Tokyo Japan

Upon visiting Osaka years back, it is now time to explore Tokyo this time. And we are very happy to be joined by the whole set of our father's siblings. This is a very rare occasion for us hence making this trip as memorable as possible.

Oycos in Asakusa

It was February 29th, our first day in Tokyo, and the freezing temperature welcomed us. It ranged from 2°c to 12°c but the wind chill makes everything colder even below freezing point presumably.

We took the train from the airport and thankfully Paolo guided us through from there. Thank you, Pao. Alam mo na. Haha! Though plans were settled, leading the pack was extra pressuring as follow-up questions were being raised and certain conditions arose accordingly.

With eaten, lost, and adjusting train tickets, it was a big help Pao can speak their language. How can we even settle those problems without our guy, Arigatou Gozaimasu!

The hotel we stayed in was at APA Hotel Ayase-Ekimae.

The hotel doesn't much have that amenities and has small room spaces but they still delivered on what was expected. Of course, the standard of living here is high especially as we go near the center of Tokyo City. Even if the rooms were small, they were able to maximize the space efficiently. And even if there were not many entertainment facilities, all our needs were met and more.

Just to give you a few ideas, here is what our room looked like:

A mini convenience store is found on their ground floor beside the lobby though whenever the need of supplies or food assistance is needed. This is a manless station where all payments are made via their self-checkout machine beside that microwave while a CCTV camera serves as its security.

One of the famous tourist spots to visit when in Tokyo. As we ride the train to go to the nearest hop-on and hop-off bus, this tower can be accessed through the red line of their tourist bus service. They got great observation decks on top and nice restaurants below which is a norm for famous skyscrapers.

We also walked along the Sumida River sighting some famous attractions like the Golden Flame and building which we'll tackle more about below.

As the thumbnail photo used above, it houses the famous Asakusa temple and has a lot of shopping districts. We roamed around the place and tried some of the food including Takoyaki and some steaming sweet potatoes.

We also got a chance to go up close to one of their rickshaw transports which is one of the unique modes of transportation here in Japan, especially for tourists. Man, the people who carry the rickshaw have great physical forms, particularly the legs. Sana all. LOL. Sabi pa nga ni tito Roy artistahin daw sila.. Haha!

One of the interesting things about their convenience stores here is that they have a good variety of ready-made meals that not only are affordable but taste great as well. I made a video regarding some of Pao and other friend's recommendations on what to try and you can watch it HERE.

As previously discussed above, this is where the golden flame sculpture can be found, the Asahi golden turd and the beer hall building. We also cruised the river and found out that the Tokyo Skytree is just around the corner and that there is a specific spot on the boat ride where the Tokyo skyscraper will reflect on the golden building seeing 3 iconic spots in one view. For the experience, we took a short trip using this bullet train to go to our next destination, Odawara. As we experienced the underground of the busy Tokyo train station, we had some opportunity to go back here again to take some pictures of its ground floor and outdoor facade which we'll put more details about below.

The area has some temples and traditional spots that can be enjoyed including a coffee shop which was set as our meeting place after a while. We walked it out from the train station and later found out that there are scheduled buses that go in and out of the area. Oh well, exercise for the day is done.

Of course, we traversed this chaos intentionally and crossed the crossing many times for the photos and videos. We visited the 6 floors Don Quijote building, had dinner at Cafe Gusto, and dropped by the Hachi statue.

It was actually hard to find a restaurant that reserves or can cater to a family of 17 members all at the same time so this was a first for us all eating in one establishment at the same time but still at different tables. Order-taking was via using the tablet per table and the food was served through a robot. Something unusual but definitely one for the books.

We decided to ride the hop-on and hop-off bus and do a full circle on its green line. This famous landmark was one of its stops including the rainbow bridge which I really enjoyed going through because of its windy experience with an overlooking view of the Tokyo Bay.

As we went to Shinjuku, this was the time we got back to the ground level of the Tokyo train station to capture some moments. As almost every train station passes by this station, well, this is probably the busiest station in the whole of Japan.

We daily pass by this area because the nearest bus stop was just a few blocks away from here wherein the Mistubishi building became our reference point having Starbucks and a restroom inside making it a perfect meeting place for the whole family to rally.

One of our last stops was here at this Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden where many Cherry blossom blossoms. The initial plan was to do a picnic but we ended up doing it on the lower level of the Starbucks located in the center of the area. Lol.

We ended the whole trip in a BBQ place near our hotel before doing some final shopping for the pasalubongs. It was a nice and quiet place where we accomplished a second but final time having dinner all together in one place but still at different tables. LOL.

It drizzled on the last night and it was something to appreciate because I got to use and experience this transparent Japanese umbrella. Not really on the bucket list but something to capture. Haha!

Attending an event is fun but with all the fur babies around makes everything more, well, generally more.

SM City Marikina successfully held its Pet Fun Run in celebration of Women's Month giving away freebies, giveaways, and treats for everyone (Attendees wore pink shirts in theme with the celebration). With 102 participants of both pet and their pet parents, the event was filled with cute and charismatic pets that captured the hearts of not only everyone in the event but online as well.

Every joiner walked and ran around the mall and had fun with their pets. Some leisurely strolled the route while some ran their hearts out. It was a moment to experience seeing pet owners appreciate each other and share their experiences with one another strengthening the pet industry one event at a time, inspiring one another.

Master Buffalo Restaurant Manila review

Chicken is one of my favorite foods and it turns out that I am not alone. One of the comfort foods that has been present recently is chicken wings and I am eating it more and more exponentially. I have encountered another chicken wings stop that has got my attention so read along if you are riding this vibe as well.

Master Buffalo Restaurant is a chain of chicken wings place that has various branches along Metro Manila. The one we visited was located at Tondo, Manila on Corregidor Street to be exact.

Their open dining place is very inviting and not intimidating making it a good place to spend time with friends and family with good food. Their setup is also simple and direct adding charm to check the place without hesitation.

They serve a variety of flavored chicken wings, poppers, and tenders including some rice bowls and silog meals all affordably priced.

They also have this Master Cafe which serves various drinks like hot and cold coffee blends, fruit lemonades, milkshakes, and snacks like burgers, sandwiches, and finger foods.

Did I miss something? I think that is about it. Anyway, the foods we got to try at the time were the following:

We really enjoyed all these flavourful wings but the standouts were honey mustard, classic mild, and the smoked bbq. Every flavor has a strong taste so be ready to refill your rice if you are a rice person. The classic mild recommendation is if you prefer some spiciness to your wings but the smoked bbq is a must-try for me aside from their best-seller flavor which is the salted egg chicken wings.

We also ordered some from the Master Cafe and the items we tried were the classic burger, baked mac, nachos, and some Master Cafe drinks including the master cup, matcha latte, avocado shake, chocolate shake, and the strawberry shake.

We all agreed that the nachos were good from our first bite until the end even if the nachos weren't that crispy anymore and these drinks delivered. Their serving size is very generous as those nachos and baked mac were humongous than in these photos. We all liked our drinks and every item was worth it, especially for its price. Sulit talaga.

With this experience, I think some of us will be regulars here knowing that they have a branch that is near where we play our sport. When we arrived at the location, the line was long so make sure to visit them during their quiet hours, well, avoiding the usual eating time should do, or better yet arrive there early or late dinner times.

Comparing their pricing to other restaurants, they are definitely competitive hence being one of the go-to food places here. No doubt that they are rocking the market and making the experience of all of their customers the beginning of a habit, a habit of eating here.

Pandecielo Marikina review

It has been a while now since I ate here again and I am happy to know that they already got a bigger and better place. They have been here for quite a while now withstanding the pandemic and it is something to commend.

Pandecielo meals

Pandecielo is a Filipino restaurant here in Marikina. They serve a wide range of Filipino dishes from pika pika sides, and comfort foods, to pang diinang Filipino rice meals and main dishes.

They have 2 full floors for the dining area including some A/C'ed semi-private rooms upstairs.

They have aesthetic setups and Instagrammable corners including this grand staircase that sets a vibe. Ganda!

There are currently 3 operational rooms on their 2nd floor for both dining and private purposes. They really have good set ups and with views making the feels inside very nice.

Anyway, the foods we tried here were the following:

buttered teriyaki chicken wings

pork lumpia

pork sisig

I really enjoyed their buttered teriyaki chicken wings because it was really flavourful. Yung lasa niya hangang sa loob nung chicken meat. I partnered it with some garlic rice at perfect yung lasa, naubos ko. The pork lumpia was as is but their flagship pork sisig also delivered. Hindi nakakasawa yung lasa niya and ang ganda nung pagka luto.

Hindi ko alam kung mas sumarap yung sisig nila ngayon compared sa dati kasi eto talaga yung kinakaen namen years before or namiss ko lang yung lasa basta masarap. Haha!

Not a fan generally ng Kanto Pares pero okay naman sakin yung lasa netong kanila. Hindi malansa yung lasa and I felt it was cleaner than others. Yan eh kung tatanungin mo lang naman ako, hehe. And for their pork garlic strips, Harold found it good but if there is a room for improvement, sa lambot daw nung meat. I second the motion. Masarap naman, mas masarap lang siguro kung mas malambot pa yung meat. Pero goods ah!

We enjoyed our stay here and it is really evident in our video right HERE. The serving sizes of their food were generous and the ambiance of the place was comfortable. Sobrang sakto sa group namen who do food trips together and spend some time talking about life and God.

The other rooms were actually rented at that time for a birthday and a private gathering so doing events here is also ideal. Great job, Pandecielo! Not really a fan of Filipino restaurants but you guys might be my answer if I am to be asked again.
