J-beauty or Japanese Beauty products are not something I was a big fan of during the first few rounds of my trips to the country, but as the K-beauty wave came into the world of skincare, I started looking around for products in the beauty domain for myself , from other countries.

This Toner from Hada Labo is such a gem that I found by chance on one fine round of over buying at the Japanese drugstore and then came across many, many influencers raving about it later in my subsequent trips to the country. There was no other option then, other than just stocking up on the product when I could.

This essense or toner of sorts is such a blessing when it comes to layering for my senstive and combination skin. If you caught the drift , you know which way I am headed with the review -

Price

The Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Lotion is incredibly well priced for what it delivers, you'd be looking at roughly 600-800 yen for the regular size, which in Indian rupees is somewhere around 350-500 INR depending on the exchange rate at the time of your trip, but only at the drugstores.

For a toner that punches so far above its weight, this is almost laughably affordable. There is also a larger size available which, if you are stocking up like I tend to do, is absolutely the way to go. The cost per use works out to be brilliant and given how long a bottle lasts with regular use, this is one of those rare products where you feel zero buyer's remorse. And the fact that this suits most skin types also adds to the punch.

Product

Hada Labo as a brand is built around one thing - hydration, and they do it with very little noise. No fancy marketing, no complicated ingredient lists, no fragrance. The Gokujyun lotion contains multiple weights of Hyaluronic Acid, which essentially means it hydrates at different layers of the skin rather than just sitting on the surface. The white and blue and gold and blue designs is iconic at this point in the J-beauty world, and for good reason , it is instantly recognisable once you know what you are looking for on those drugstore shelves. There are multiple variants that are available of this toner/essence/lotion, get the one for your skin type's concern and do not only go into the hyped buys. Easily distinguishable by their colors.

Should you pick it up?

Without a single doubt, if you are in Japan, or know someone who is headed there, the Hada Labo Gokujyun Lotion is one of those absolute non-negotiables to bring back. You will find it easily at Matsumoto Kiyoshi, Sundrug, or Ain Pharmacy and it is usually stocked well because it is a permanent bestseller.

Skip the Don Quijote run for this one, the dedicated drugstore chains will have the full range and you can actually browse without paying extra for the sensory chaos.

The good news for anyone who cannot make a Japan trip soon is that Hada Labo has become fairly accessible in India too , it pops up on Amazon India from time to time, though the pricing is naturally higher than picking it up directly. Worth checking if you do not want to wait.

For sensitive, combination, or dehydrated skin and honestly, for almost any skin type - this toner is one of those rare products that quietly earns a permanent spot in your routine. I have gone back to it trip after trip and that is really all the recommendation it needs.

Wasosen Adlay Hatomugi Peeling Gel Review

As a millenial growing up in India, the everyouth walnut scrub used to be the go to for a clean up and facial scrub.Now I know How much I have acually made my skin go through, with that super rough scrub. Once I relased that I thought I won't give in to chemical peels- cause I used to always believe chemical peels are super strong and harsh on skin. But then I ended up trying a facial with chemical peel at a dermatolgist's office and became a fan!

The mild chemical peel gave such great results , that lasted for weeks! And then I tried a Peel from Minimalist, the AHA PHA BHA one, and was an utter faliure that I tried by myself. So I kindof swore off of them.

But on my travels to Japan, I had tried the Hatomugi Products and knew their formulations are mild and effective. So when I came across the Wasosen Peeling Gel on my last trip, I was actually in dire need of a peel, cause of the dead skin build up I had in the dry autumn weather. And I gave in an bought it ! and Boy was I surpised with the results ! My skin was feeling veru clogged up and heavy and One use is all it took for a refreshed skin!

Let's get on with the review -

Product

So the Wasosen Peeling Gel, if you are not familiar with Japanese peeling gels, they work very differently from chemical exfoliants. This is a physical-chemical hybrid of sorts. You apply it on dry skin, let it sit for a moment, and then gently roll or lightly massage it between your fingers and applied areas. What happens next is the most satisfying part! Little grey-ish bits start to form, and that is the dead skin being rolled off. It feels almost therapeutic to do, honestly.

The product itself has a clear, slightly thick gel texture and goes on smoothly without any fragrance, which for me is always a green flag. The key ingredients here are plant-based cellulose and mild exfoliating agents , nothing that screams aggressive. Japanese formulations in general tend to lean towards being gentle yet effective, and the Wasosen stays very true to that. No tingling, no burning, no panic.

Experience

Now here is where it gets interesting. My skin at the point of trying this was deeply unhappy, the dry autumn air had done a number on it, and I had that very specific kind of congestion where your skin just feels heavy and dull and like no amount of moisturiser is actually getting absorbed. You know that feeling? It's almost like your skin has a lid on it.

I applied the Wasosen on clean, dry skin, and this is important, it works best on dry skin. Let it sit for about a minute or 30 seconds, and then started gently rolling it in circular motions. The dead skin started forming almost immediately, which I will admit was both gross and extremely satisfying. Lol! The roll-off itself is quite gentle, nothing pulling or tugging, and it took maybe 3-4 minutes overall.

After washing it off, my skin felt immediately different. Lighter, smoother, and actually clean in a way that my regular face wash just doesn't deliver. I followed up only with my mild moisturiser and could feel my moisturiser actually sinking in rather than just sitting on the surface. The next morning, the glow was very much unexpected, not the kind that fades by noon, but a genuine, from-within kind of radiance. Almost as if I got a facial done the previous night.

For combination skin like mine, that balance is everything and this delivered it without making my T-zone go into oil overdrive.

What I also appreciated was there was zero downtime. No redness, no sensitivity, completely fine to go out the same day. Compared to my disastrous Minimalist AHA PHA BHA experience where my skin threw a full tantrum, this was the opposite end of the spectrum.

One use is genuinely not an exaggeration, the results were visible and felt from the very first try like I mentioned above.

Should you pick this up?

Absolutely yes!!! if you are traveling to Japan, this is one to add to your drugstore list without a second thought. Japanese drugstores are a treasure trove for skincare and the Wasosen Peeling Gel is exactly the kind of understated, no-fuss product that sits quietly on the shelf but absolutely delivers.

Look for it at Matsumoto Kiyoshi, Sundrug, or Ain Pharmacy, these are the drugstores where you are most likely to find it and where the skincare aisles are genuinely worth spending time in. I got myself from a Sundrug at Kyoto.

A small heads up though , I did not find it at any wasosen or hatomugi products at Don Quijote store, and honestly, if skincare is your mission, Don Quijote is not your best bet anyway. It is great for a lot of things but the skincare selection there tends to be more touristy and curated for impulse buys rather than the good everyday Japanese staples. Stick to the dedicated drugstore chains and you will have a much better time hunting for gems like this one and at a more reasonable price.

As for availability in India, I have not come across it on any Indian online platform and I would be surprised if it showed up any time soon, given how niche it is. So this one is firmly in the "Japan trip haul" category for now. If you do have a trip coming up or know someone headed there, put this on the list. For the price point and what it delivers, it is one of those purchases you will not regret.

For anyone with dry, congested, or dull skin, especially if you have been scared off chemical peels like I was, a peeling gel like this is genuinely a great middle ground. Effective, gentle, and no drama. Exactly what good skincare should be. But in any case, after any peel use sunscreen if you plan to be in direct sun atleast!

Multi taskers are what I expect from Gush Beauty and this lip stick stack is no different. I loved Gush Beauty's Super Stack Vegan Matte Lipstick and this multi tasker is no different. For a finicky person such as me , touch ups are not only to sustain the mood, it may aslo be for changing up the mood and vibe!

And the Pen Pal from gush beauty is an outstanding candidate for that soft blurred lip look in various colors and combos. I reach for this on days I am the most confused !

Without any further ado, let's jump into the review !

The Pen Pal comes in a sleek, pen-like multi lipstick format and honestly, the name could not be more fitting. It is slim, travel friendly and clicks together just like the Super Stack but feels a little more refined in hand. Each shade sits in its own section and the whole thing assembles into one neat little column that slides into any bag without a fuss. The packaging has that same fun Gush Beauty energy, colourful and a little quirky, but slightly more fun than the Super Stack.

The applicator tip,essentally the Lipstick bullet, is reminiscent of the eraser stacks that we millenials grew up with, which I think is the real hero of the packaging story, because it is precisely what gives you that blurred, diffused lip effect without needing a separate brush or your finger. A detail that is small but makes a huge difference in application!

Product :

The Pinks and Mauves variant is genuinely one of the most wearable sets I have picked up in a while. The shades range from a soft baby pink to a deeper cool mauve, and together they cover almost every mood I could possibly be in on any given day. What sets the Pen Pal apart from the Super Stack is the finish. Where the Super Stack gives you a more defined matte, the Pen Pal leans into a softer, blurred lip look that feels very effortless and very now. The formula is lightweight and does not settle into fine lines the way some mattes tend to and the blurred soft look is amazing .

Experience:

I remember carrying this to a lunch that turned into an extended dinner situation, one of those days where the plan kept shifting and so did the lighting and the vibe! Started the afternoon with the softer pink, and by the time we moved to a dimmer restaurant setting later in the evening I just dabbed the mauve over it at the table. No mirror, no fuss. The woman at the next table actually leaned over and asked what I was using because she thought I had done a full lip change, which genuinely made my day!
