To avoid a repeat of the drama that played out in Kogi state last year, the Senate has proffered a solution to the controversy over who succeeds a governorship or presidential candidate who dies after election had begun and before the announcement of the results.
While passing the clauses of a bill seeking to amend the Electoral Act 2010 for the sixth time, the lawmakers, during the plenary on Thursday, December 1, recommended the conduct of a fresh primary should be done within 14 days to choose the new candidate, The Punch reports.
Senate approves new primary for dead candidate’s successor to avoid a repeat of what happened in Kogi state
The bill also recommended the suspension of the poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission for 21 days.
The amendment in the Electoral Act 2010 was inspired by the development in Kogi during the last governorship election in the state.
The development had forced the suspension of the consideration of the report by the Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission on a bill titled, ‘A Bill for an Act to Amend the Electoral Act 2010.’
The report proposed the amendment of Section 36 of the Electoral Act by inserting a new ‘Subsection 3’ to address the legal logjam that greeted the last governorship election in Kogi state, after the death of the All Progressives Congress candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu, during the collation of results.
The late APC governorship candidate was leading his opponent Captain Idris Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party by 41,353 votes before his death. Hence, the INEC declared the poll inconclusive and scheduled a supplementary election in 91 polling units for Saturday, December 5, an election Audu’s replacement Yahaya Bello won.
Governor Bello, who is Igbirra from Kogi state’s central senatorial zone, had polled 703 votes to finish second to Audu who polled 1, 109 votes in the APC primaries.

Ribadu says following the appointment of Waziri, as EFCC chairman corrupt practices that were unheard of became widespread in the commission.
A former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Nuhu Ribadu has named some Nigerians he said did all they could to frustrate the nation’s fight against corruption.
Ribadu made the disclosure on Thursday, December 1, when he presented the lead paper at the 2016 annual lecture organised by the Law Chambers of Joe Kyari Gadzama in Abuja, Premium Times reports.
According to Ribadu, foremost lawyer, Ben Nwabueze, former attorney general and minister of justice, Michael Aondoakaa, and his successor at the EFCC, Farida Waziri undermined the country’s efforts to fight against the cancer of corruption.
“I still recall with amazement and shock how some very senior lawyers made it a duty upon themselves to bring down the EFCC and stop the work we were doing. Many of them, like Prof. Ben Nwabueze, SAN, teamed up with politicians to wage a very serious propaganda to discredit the work we were doing,” he said.
He said Mr. Nwabueze hindered the fight against graft by personally going to court on many occasions to challenge the powers of the EFCC to fight corruption.
“One thing that also did a serious damage to the war against corruption was the active connivance of some senior lawyers who represented the governors we charged to courts after the 2007 election,” he said.
“It is on record that we charged the former governors of Jigawa, Taraba, Adamawa, Plateau, Enugu, Ekiti, Delta, Abia and Edo states as the first set of ex-governors to face prosecution. However, almost 10 years after most of the cases have not gone anywhere because of deliberate action by lawyers to frustrate the trials,” he said.
Mr. Ribadu said he was shocked that some lawyers who found themselves in government also worked against the fight against corruption.
“Take the case of Mr. Michael Aondoakaa, whose most cardinal agenda as the AGF seemed to be destroying EFCC by every means possible and frustrating all the cases.
“In that regard he attempted to take over the prosecutorial powers of the commission, which would have rendered the EFCC into a toothless bulldog. But of course we resisted,” he said.
He said after Farida Waziri replaced him as the chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Aondoakaa found a partner in her.
Mr. Ribadu said Mrs Waziri “inflicted serious damages on the EFCC from which the commission is still struggling to recover”.
He said following the appointment of Waziri, corrupt practices that were unheard of became widespread in the Commission and outside lawyers were brought in to handle very important cases that sometimes were turned into avenues of making money.
He cited one of such cases as the Halliburton scandal.
“We did all the work and took the investigation to a very advanced stage, but the case was handed over to private lawyers who connived with some officials to feather their nests from it.
“The lawyers ended up earning more than even the government, to the anguish of those diligent workers who built the case. That was a very unprofessional practice and against global best practice,” he said.
He also said that the United States and the UK who had similar cases did not involve any private lawyer to handle it for them.
“All these are today pieces of history but as the saying goes; truth is constant while lies fizzle out,” he said.
Mr. Ribadu also listed some Nigerian lawyers that he said contributed immensely to the fight against corruption in the country.
He said Gani Fawehinmi, Femi Falana, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) Mr. Tayo Oyetibo (SAN) Mr. Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) and Chief Kanu Agabi, (SAN) supported the EFCC by offering to take on our cases for free.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the resignation letter by the party’s national legal adviser, Dr Muiz Banire, SAN, The Sun reports.
In a letter dated December 1, 2016 and signed by Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, the APC national chairman, the party said its NWC “resolved that your voluntary submission for investigation by the EFCC and subsequent offer to step aside from your position as National Legal Adviser to the party is an exemplary representation of the credo of our party. The NWC is proud of your conduct in this respect.”
APC rejects Muiz Banire’s resignation as party’s legal adviser
The letter however said that “after intense discussion, the NWC unanimously decided not to accept your offer to step aside as the National Legal Adviser.”
The party explained that its decision is hinged on the fact that Banire’s offer is “inappropriate since your responsibility as the National Legal Adviser of our party will not, in any way, impede any on-going investigation by the EFCC, more so, as the allegation has no nexus with the party.
“The party is currently saddled with a number of sensitive litigations and your role in professionally handling the on-going cases is critical. The NWC is of the view that we keep to the credo of our jurisprudence where an accused is considered innocent until otherwise proven guilty by a competent jurisdiction. In this case you have not even been accused.”
Recall that Banire had about three weeks ago written to step down as the party’s national legal adviser following an investigation launched by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that he allegedly bribed a judge with N500,000.
However, Banire said the alleged bribe was a gift from him to the judge who is an old friend of his, and had sought his financial assistance to defray part of the burial expenses of his late mother, about three years ago.

Twelve lecturers of Auchi Polytechnic in Edo state were dismissed, sixteen demoted, four warned in connection with sexual-related offences, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) reports.

Besides, two other educators were advised, another two cautioned and one more lecturer would be mentored for some time.
The news was made public by Masa’udu Kazaure, the executive secretary of the board, at a news conference in Kaduna on Thursday, November 30.
A fact-finding committee launched inner investigation after the Punch newspaper had published an article in April this year titled: “School Where Prostitutes Assist Male Students to Get Marks”
Mr Kazaure said: “The summary of the publication indicated that students hire prostitutes or beg their girlfriends to sleep with lecturers on their behalf in order to earn higher grades in their courses.
The lecturer chooses a hotel of his choice and the affected students pay the hotel bills, which include the meals before the action.
Some of the lecturers give the option of paying by cash, which cost between N10, 000 and N20, 000, which could give the student not more than a ‘C’ grade.
We promptly informed the Minister of Education, Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and Department of Security Services (DSS).”
It took a week for the committee that comprised of representatives from EFCC, ICPC, DSS, NBTE and the Federal Ministry of Education to investigate and then propose long-lasting solutions to the problem.
The report with recommendations that was submitted to Adamu Adamu, the minister of ediucation, in June this year were finally approved on November 21.
“Consequently, the minister approved the dismissal from the services of the Polytechnic two chief lecturers, two principal lecturers and one Lecturer I.
Also, four chief lecturers, one principal lecturer, one lecturer I, one lecturer II and one higher technician had their appointments terminated.
The minister also approved the demotion of one chief lecturer, four principal lecturers, three senior lecturers, three lecturer I, four lecturer II, and one senior instructor.
One chief lecturer, one principal lecturer, one lecturer I, and one lecturer II were warned, while a chief lecturer and one senior technologist were advised to be of good conduct.
In addition, two senior lecturers were cautioned, an Assistant Lecturer is to be mentored and one ND student is to be advised, while another student denied admission into the polytechnic,” Mr Kazaure concluded.

The speaker of the Lagos state House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has revealed that Nigeria, just like other democracies need good governance and that this can only come through a virile legislature.
Obasa said this while delivering a lecture at a book launch in the Ikorodu area of Lagos state, western Nigeria.

The speaker described the legislative process is an interesting chain of activities, which involves passing of motions into resolutions and bills into laws which, depending on certain circumstances, contribute in one way or the other to national development.
In every nation, he said, the legislature, as the accredited representatives of the people, has the duty of promoting national development through its chain of activities.
According to him, the legislature in Nigeria has the mandate and is under obligation to initiate debate and show concern on matters affecting the generality of people in the country.
“Expectedly such activities should be directed toward reversing declining economy, stabilizing the polity and integrating society with overall aim of enhancing national development.
“Achieving good governance requires the existence of a strong, effective and efficient parliament.
“This is so because the parliament plays a crucial role in gauging, collating and presenting the views and needs of the people, articulating their expectations and aspirations in determining the national development agenda.
“As oversight body, parliament helps to identify problems and policy challenges that require attention and assists in overcoming bureaucratic inertia,” he said.
Obasa, who noted that democracy is all about ensuring popular participation and control of the process of governance, told the guests at the event that the legislature occupies a central role in any democratic setting, arguing that though a government may exist without the legislature, but that without the legislature, democracy is not possible.
“The existence of a parliament may not be synonymous with democracy, but democracy cannot exist without a parliament.
“Put differently, therefore, nation building that is anchored on good governance becomes a colossal task without the parliamentarians.
“As is evident, legislature is a veritable instrument and institution for national development whose effectiveness is determined by some local variables. With the roles of the legislatures all pointing towards good governance, it is not out place to say that, the legislature is the bulwark of any nation,” he said as he spoke on the topic: ‘The Legislature and the Imperatives of Good Governance’.

]]>A massive crowd of supporters gathered to support their leader Nnamdi Kanu, who appeared at Federal High Court of Abuja today, on Thursday, December 1.
And while the IPOB supporters who agitate for restoration of the sovereignty of Biafra as a separate republic were obviously disgruntled with the decision, Nnamdi Kanu was in high spirit throughout his time in court.
Meanwhile, the IPOB has described the recent launch of “Operation Python Dance” by the Nigerian army as a plot of the federal government and the governors of the south-east zone to unleash terror on its members in the area.
Recall that Nnamdi Kanu is a political activist based in the United Kingdom who was arrested for charges of “criminal conspiracy, intimidation and membership of an illegal organisation by Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) in Lagos on 14 October, 2015.

Senator representing Ondo south senatorial district, Mr. Yele Omogunwa has defected to the APC.
The party’s invitation to PDP senators comes shortly after the PDP senator representing Ondo south senatorial district, Chief Yele Omogunwa, defected to the APC.
Omogunwa’s defection had caused an uproar among PDP senators who staged a walkout after Senate president Bukola Saraki read a letter from Sen. Omogunwa informing his colleagues in the upper house of legislature that he had moved from the PDP to APC.
Following Omogunwa’s defection, the APC on Wednesday, November 30, via its twitter handle @APCNigeria, called on other senators from the country’s main opposition party to join it.
In series of tweets on his verified Twitter handle on Wednesday, November 30, Saraki explained that he and the other senators believed that the internet gave the people a voice and should therefore not be tampered with.
He noted also that at this juncture in Nigeria’s history when the economy is at its worst, increasing tariffs was not the right thing to do.

President Muhammadu Buhari has put an end to the issue of Biafra insisting that the country will not break-up.
Buhari’s administration has witnessed resurgence in the agitation for an independent Biafra state but the president has responded to the call saying the country was better an one.
President Buhari promised to extend projects to south east
In a statement by Garba Shehu who is the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Buhari was quoted as saying focus should be on development.
The president made this comment on Thursday, December 1 while at a meeting with the Council of South-East Traditional Rulers at the State House.
He said: “The question of having another country out of Nigeria is going to be very difficult. From 1914, we have more than 200 cultures living with one another. God had endowed this country with natural resources and talented people. We should concentrate on these and be very productive.”
President Buhari promised that the south-east will also benefit from the new railway architecture being put in place by his administration.
On the issue of having more Igbos in the key positions in the country, Buhari said he was “very conscious of the sensitivities of the South East” which was why four of the five key cabinets were occupied from people from the region.
The president urged the Igbo elders to urge the people in the region to give his administration a chance and also applauded the good work of the ministers from the region in the federal government, saying that they are doing very well for the country.
President Buhari assured that the issue of cattle rustling and kidnapping would be his next focus as “we have managed to calm down the North-East.”
On the issue of corruption, President Buhari noted that the judiciary needs cleansing as some trial dated back to when Chief Olusegun Obasanjo was president.
“We are asking the judiciary to clean itself. Nigerians are tired of waiting. They want some actions.”
His Royal Majesty, Eze (Dr) Eberechi N. Dick (JP) who is the chairman of the South East Council of Traditional Rulers made requests for roads other projects,
He also assured the president of their continued support for his administration.

There were lots of events that we have experienced with my wife for these 35 years. We brought up wonderful children. Each of them has a firm marriage and job with good prospects. But this is all the merit of my wife who was praying for them for all these years.
When we retired, me and my wife decided to make an investment in once business. And I should say that everything went off all right! We never had such money before, and I was on could nine from happiness. It seemed to me that my life changed, and I was even offered to enter the «billionaire’s club». What else could I want?
But I started to think that now one woman was not enough for me despite the fact that we lived for so many years together.
We bought luxurious cars, moved to area of good address, we were invited to different private events. There were so many young beauties around me, and all my friends were accompanied by young girls…
These ladies looked at me the way that made me melt. They were saying things because of which I was feeling myself at the top of the world. I was spending money not counting them. And then I met Dolly. Young, beautiful, sexy. It seemed to me that she was ready on anything, and I couldn’t resist. But Dolly had one condition: I had to marry her.
My first woman was always supporting me in any situation and never made me suffer. She brought up our children and made them successful and happy people. This is all her merit. And I… I can’t explain how this happened…
Dolly invited me to house to get acquainted with her mother. She turned to be of the same age with my wife, and she cooked wonderful dinner. Then she started to set conditions explaining them with care for her daughter. Dolly’s mother was divorced. She and her daughter gave me three months to divorce with my wife and settle all things. Otherwise, I would never see Dolly again. Did I promise to do everything the way they demanded? I don’t remember.
At home, I started to blame my wife in absolutely everything. We were quarrelling every day, and I started to hate her. At the family meeting, I decided to «finish her off». I told relatives about all her «sins» such as excessive weight and fanatical attitude to faith. I compared her prayers with spells and even blamed her for having affairs with a priest…
My ex-wife stood hardily against my accusations, and said at the end: I know what happened. I give you away to this young beauty you dangle after. Then all relatives attacked her. Once my wife helped my younger sister in a dreadful situation, and now she even hit her saviour. I was simply watching.
She left that day. She didn’t take anything with her despite the fact that most of things at home belonged to her. She even managed to persuade children who tried to interfere at the beginning.
I paid a huge ransom for Dolly to her greedy relatives. For two weeks, during which our honeymoon lasted, I felt myself as a king. Who wouldn’t feel pleased when a sexy beauty accompanies him at the parties? But that was all. Now I live in hell.
With Dolly, my savings melt like snow in spring. She is heartless and ignorant. We even stopped making love: I’ve got problems in male sphere. It seems to me that she has somebody.
I can’t tell anyone about this. I miss my wife. I miss her kind heart. No one controls my menu, and now I have several diseases that appeared. Dolly doesn’t do anything, she stays at home all day long. She gave birth to a child, but is this my child? Communication with him doesn’t bring me the same happiness it does when I spend time with my children and grandchildren.
Children fell off me. Their mother is fine. God always answered on her prays. Without me, she looks even happier and younger.
Because of Dolly, I stopped communication with my family. I feel myself a prisoner – inside my soul and inside my own house. Mistake that I made is awful, but I can’t tell anyone about it. I suffer. Suffer and smile. There are things I can’t write even in a letter.
It’s not about Dolly. Even if she was an angel, now I understood that you can’t experience the rise with someone when your life goes to the sunset. No matter how hard I wanted this, I can’t be a man who is in the peak of his virility.
I would give everything to bring things back. Sometimes I dream: how wonderful it would be to get old with someone with whom you spent your youth. I sincerely envy the couples that saved their marriage in mature age.
I still don’t lose hope to make peace with my wife, but she doesn’t let me get close. I sent her gifts but she returned them. She says she forgave me but she doesn’t want to have anything with me.

Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has denied media reports that he recommended the arrest of more judges in furtherance of the recent clampdown on judges over their alleged involvement in bribery scandals.
Mbaka made this claim in a statement made available to The Nation. He said he was shocked by the report that he called for the arrest of more judges in his sermon during the special church service to mark this years’ legal year organized by the Enugu state judiciary.
Mbaka says corrupt people working for Buhari should be arrested
According to him, he didn’t call for the arrest of more judges instead he prayed for all the judges showering them with blessings, and at the same time admonishing them to be upright in the discharge of their duties as the last hope of the common man.
He said: “For me, Judges should be beyond corruption because they are like ‘God’; if they make mistake in sentencing an innocent man the person will die in jail. They can save life, they can destroy life. The judiciary should not be merchandized; nobody should think he can purchase justice.
“I raised the question about the arrest; are we sure that the judges arrested are guilty of what they are accused of? For me, if judges could be arrested let them be well examined; if found culpable, punishment could be meted out. I suggested strongly that the arrest of judges should not be selective; that the arrest should be 360 degrees coverage. So if the judges were arrested, what about those who gave the money; were they exonerated?
“While arresting the judges, I suggested that those who gave them the money, if actually they were given money for fraudulent purposes, should equally be arrested. So the arrest should even go to the senators who were found culpable; it should go to the House of Reps, it should even be extended to the executives. People working for Buhari who are corrupt should equally be arrested and that is when the arrest should represent justice, equity and fair play; it should not be only for judges.”
Amid claims that he always quick to defend President Buhari, Mbaka said that he doesn’t even have the phone number of the president.
He said: “So I never asked them to arrest more judges because I have no problem with judges and I don’t even know why the judges were arrested because I don’t speak with the federal government. I don’t even have Buhari’s number; I don’t talk with Buhari so how can I urge people who I don’t speak with to carry out an assignment I don’t know about its origin and intention.
“I couldn’t have said that because many judges are good, many are innocent of what they are being accused of, many are godly; so we lift our caps for those who are good. If there are some who are corrupt, they should repent; and if judges are good it will bring better hope for the common man.
“The revolution that is going on in Nigeria is an attempt to sweep off corruption in all aspects of our lives; in the entire government structure so we don’t make corruption our culture. Revolutions that will exterminate corruption from the tap root because corruption is becoming part and part of our political culture and almost accepted; the war against corruption is a welcome development but should be prosecuted without bias.”
He continued: “Those arresting the judges I pray they should look well and not cause unnecessary earthquake in the Judiciary; the executive is safe; the legislature is safe and the judiciary is under attack. People will raise questions, so let there be justice in whatever arrest they are doing; so I don’t ask them to arrest more judges.
“I equally spoke about the economic recession and I strongly believe that President Buhari should employ more people who can help him implement his political agenda. So why we are praising the president for warring against corruption and insurgency, we still pray that he uses whatever he has to war against hunger.”

Ambode inspects a project
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday said his administration has kept faith with the electioneering campaign promises made to Lagosians, assuring that the State would witness quantum leap in infrastructural development in 2017.
Speaking at the grand finale of the campaign of All Progressives Congress (APC) for Saturday’s bye-election for Ifako-Ijaiye Federal Constituency of the House of Representatives, Governor Ambode assured that no electoral promise made by him would go unfulfilled, saying that he had operated under that principle ever since assuming office and remained committed to fulfilling all pledges and doing even more.
Governor Ambode, who thanked all those who believed in him and voted for him, said the government has faithfully carried out the promise of transforming the communities and running an all inclusive administration where no one is left behind.
He said it was evidently clear to all that Lagos is working, saying that the pledge to transform the communities, among others, has been fulfilled and still ongoing.
“I like to start by thanking you for believing in us; thank you for believing in Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The past, the present and the future belong to all of you and so far that we are all working together, we know that Ojokoro and Ifako-Ijaiye will move forward and there will be tremendous progress in this community.
“I just want to promise you that this government that you have seen what we have done in the last 18 months, we have not started anything yet. As you are aware, we just presented the 2017 budget to the House of Assembly but I tell you what you will see in Lagos by this time next year, you will not believe the progress that Lagos will make.
“This is the best State in Nigeria and we don’t make promises that we cannot fulfill. We will even do more than we have promised,” the Governor said, adding that his administration will commence the construction of Ifako-Ijaiye Stadium within the first quarter of 2017.
The House of Representative seat became vacant following the death of the former lawmaker representing the constituency, Dr Elijah Adewale, while Akinwunmi Olaitan Nurudeen emerged as the APC candidate for the bye-election after a keenly contested primary.
The Governor also commiserated with the family of Dr Adewale over the painful loss of their father, and thanked them and all the leaders in the constituency for the massive support given to his administration and the party.
Governor Ambode, who equally vouched for the candidate of the party (Akinwunmi), urged the people to troop out in droves on Saturday to vote for the APC candidate for more dividends of democracy.
Also speaking at the rally, Senator representing Lagos West at the Senate, Olamilekan Adeola Solomon, urged the people of the constituency to vote for Akinwunmi who, according to him, is well experienced to give quality representation.
Solomon, who alluded to the numerous projects ongoing in the State including the Abule-Egba flyover, pleaded with the people to continue to support the APC government in the State.
At the rally, the candidates of Action Alliance (AA), Yussuf Olawale Abdulfatai and that of Alliance for Democracy (AD), Michael Adebayo also stepped down from the Saturday’s election, and urged their supporters and the people to vote for the APC candidate.

The House of representatives have commenced the process of conferring power that is now exclusive prerogative of President Muhammadu Buhari and Court of Appeal.
The lawmakers want to have rights on deciding who to appoint to the post of chairmen and members of National and State Houses of Assembly election tribunals in the 36 states and Abuja on Chief Justice of Nigeria and National Judicial Council.
A bill sponsored by Rep. James Faleke (from APC chapter of Lagos state) and Rep. Sunday Karimi (from APC chater of Kogi), seeks to alter the section by taking the power off the Court of Appeal President.
On Wednesday, December 1, Mr Faleke explained the move: “The objective is to first and foremost contribute to the ongoing judicial and electoral reforms in the country. Secondly, to create a system of check and balance on the process of appointing these judicial officers.
As it is now, the authority to appoint the judges for the tribunals as well as the appellate tribunal rests squarely on the president of the Court of Appeal.
This is in consultation with the Chief Judge of the state, the Grand Khadi of the Sharia Court of Appeal of the state or the president of the Customary Court of Appeal of the state, depending on the state where the said tribunal members are to be appointed from”

CCT as the enforcement and disciplinary arm of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) compels all public officers in the federal, state and local government levels are compelled to declare their assets within the period of engagement.

Spokesperson to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr Femi Adesina, has admitted that the presidency underestimated the problems facing Nigeria when they assumed office.
President Muhammadu Buhari has been accused of being too slow in his leadership style
Adeshina made the comment while speaking as a guest on a television show ‘Seriously Speaking’, aired on Channels Television on Monday, November 28.
His words: “We all must agree that the enormity of the problem was underestimated. John Oyegun, chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has said that; Segun Oni, former governor of Ekiti state, has said that, too.
“Whoever thought that Nigeria had been run into a hole like we have now seen? There was façade that made you feel that everything was okay with the country, but the country was in a hole.
“As of November 2014, the average income of Nigeria for a month was $3.2 billion. By June, July 2015, it dropped to $500 million.
“You couldn’t have foreseen that because nobody knew that the crash of oil price would have such effect and when the crash came, the next thing was to say: ‘Where are the savings?’ But we looked and found nothing. So, it was real trouble.”
Adeshina also encouraged Nigerians to trust the present administration, saying they mean well and are always sincere with their actions.
“This administration is not the type that will manipulate, that will twist issues, whatever you hear us say, just take it that we mean it. The good thing about the president is his integrity. He also means well.
“If you have your doubts about the captain of a ship and you run into a storm, you begin to panic. But if you know that this captain is tested, he is seasoned, and he will not abandon the ship, then you will stay with him.
“I will like to tell Nigerians that the captain of our ship, the president is someone who knows where he is going. He knows where he is steering the ship to. It may be tempestuous for now, we will get to a safe harbour,” he said.
This was the submission of Okechukwu Enelamah, minister for investment, trade and industry. Enelamah says the government is keen on attracting foreign investment.
In a statement signed by the chief corporate communication officer, Dangote Group, Anthony Chiejina, the group promised to explore opportunities opening up in agriculture, mining and infrastructure through partnership with the governments.

The Appeal Court has set aside the judgment of the Rivers state election petition tribunal which earlier affirmed the election of Mr. Andrew Miller of the APC.
A member of the Rivers state House of Assembly representing Opobo/Nkoro constituency, Mr. Andrew Miller of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been sacked by the Court of Appeal in Abuja on Thursday, December 1.
The Punch reports that the Justice Ibrahim Saulawa-led panel nullified the certificate of return issued to Miller by the Independent National Electoral Commission and ordered the commission to issue fresh one to the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate in the re-run, Mr. Diri Adonye.
In delivering the judgment, the court described the March 19, 2016 election as “massively rigged” in favour of the APC and Miller and set aside the judgment of the Rivers state election petition tribunal which earlier affirmed the election of the APC and its candidate.
The PDP and its candidate had filed their petition before the tribunal contending that the APC’s candidate declared as the winner of the poll did not receive the highest lawful votes.
The petitioners argued that the figures were inflated in favour of the APC and its candidate.
But the rivers state election petition tribunal had dismissed the petition on the grounds that the petitioners failed to prove the alleged tampering with the authentic election results and who actually altered with the results.
The petitioners further appealed to the Court of Appeal asking for an order setting aside the judgment of the tribunal.
Justice Mbaba held that results of the election were altered with figures fraudulently inflated and allocated to the APC in the various wards.
Akeredolu speaking with State House correspondents after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari onWednesday, November 30, said that “My own is not to institute any probe of last regime and that is what President Buhari has done.
He also said there may be need to review some campaign promises when faced with realities.

President Muhammadu Buhari has again described the level of corruption that had taken over Nigeria’s government at the time he took over in 2015.
The president spoke when he receiving the letter of credence of the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr William Stuart Symington, at the State House, Abuja on Thursday, December 1.

Buhari said he took over a country riddled with monumental corruption adding that it was now very difficult to salvage the country because of the actions of previous administrations.
He said even at that, his government would strive to meet the key priorities of securing the country, fighting corruption, and salvaging the economy in spite of current challenges.
He said terrorism in the north-east has reduced drastically because of support in training of the military and supply of hardware after the G-7 meeting in Germany in 2015.

Tribune reports him as saying: “When I was invited to the G-7 meeting after my inauguration on May 29, 2015, I thought I was going to be an observer at the meeting, but without prompting, I was asked to brief the leaders on the security situation in Nigeria and I did.
“Since then, we have received support in training and military hardware, and I hope we have not disappointed.”
Buhari said he is focused on reversing the culture of corruption in the country and that this had received support from Nigerians as many have realised the depth of the damage done by some previous administrations.
“The corruption we met at personal and institutional levels was unbelievable. Corruption was turning into a culture. After we came in, people started realizing the truth.

“Nigeria will either kill corruption or corruption will kill Nigeria in the long run,” the president said.
The report quoted the president as noting that the years of mishandling of the economy at a period of financial prosperity affected the economy, thus resulting in difficulties to create employment for the youths and improve the livelihood of many Nigerians.
“It has not been easy for another party to come in and get things done properly especially with the new economic reality of $37 per barrel of oil, against the $100 for the period, and there was no savings, no infrastructure on ground,” he said.
The US ambassador, in his remark, said the interest in the well-being of Nigeria was of mutual benefit adding: “We do it not only for Nigeria, but for ourselves. We did it because it was right for us and right for our people.”
While promising to work hard to further strengthen the relationship between Nigeria and his country, he assured that the president-elect of the US, Donald Trump would also be interested in the well-being of Nigeria.

A secondary school student, Mukthar Jawad has invented a motor-bike prototype in Abuja.
Nigeria’s minister of education, Adamu Adamu
Jawad, an SS3 art student of Community Staff Schools Asokoro told the News Agency of Nigeria today, December 1 that he invented the motorcycle to ease the mode of transportation in Nigeria and Africa at large.
He stated that he has been riding the prototype as a mode of transportation from his house to the school for more than three months without any problems.
He called on the federal government and other relevant stakeholders to promote his motorcycle for mass production and for better means of transportation in Nigeria.
His words: “I like things that involve mechanical, assemble and dissemble. This made me perceived I can do something different to better the means for transportation.
“My motor-bike has features that are partly bicycle and partly motorcycle,’’ he said.
On his part, the principal of the school, Sa’idu Ahmed said that it was a thing of joy for such one of the art students to use his talent for such a discovery.
“I have gone to his house to encourage him and he later told me that he had finished the project.
“This is genuine knowledge from him; it should be cheaper and easier to manage compared with bicycle or motorcycle,’’ he said.
Folarin, 23, a guidance and counselling graduate of the University of Lagos, worked on several development project in rural communities in order to secure livelihood which earned her the award.

Apparently, somebody from Egbegbe’s camp had gotten across to the media personality concerning a report she made over his alleged confession to her police source in Kirikiri prison that he actually rob for a living while using movie making as a smokescreen.

A police source at Kirikiri prison is telling me now that he (Egbegbe) actually steals for a living. Egbegbe said he steals for a living and covers it up with movie production.”

After winning the contest he decided to fulfill his dream of being a singer. Godfrey no longer wanted to show his deformity, he wanted to show his qualities too. And he did it. He recorded a few albums and video clips with songs from his country using the stage name of “Sebabi” (which means “the ugliest of all”), and he was quite successful. In his personal life he faced many disappointments.
He married and had two children, but his wife apparently wanted him only for his money and eventually betrayed him. They divorced and he met Kate Namanda, 20 years younger than him and very pretty. Kate was introduced to him by his aunt who was part of his musical group. They were together for 4 years and he just went to meet her family when Kate got pregnant.
He was afraid that her family would not accept their union. In the sixth month of pregnancy, Kate left him, but returned two months later. Governor Fayose says there is no truth in reports that he wants to quit PDP
Ekiti state Governor Ayodele Fayose has denied reports that he plans to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to a statement from Fayose which was acquired by NAIJ.com on Thursday, December 1, his words were misunderstood because he remains a PDP member and will not quit the party.
“What I said is that if the current man-made crisis rocking the PDP persists till 2018, rather than allow them mess us up like they did in Ondo, we may have to seek an alternative and credible platform. We are not people who betray the confidence of our people. If there will be change at all, it will not be spur-of-the-moment. We shall carry our leaders and the people along”, he added.
In the statement released by his chief press secretary Idowu Adelusi, Fayose lambasted those distorting his statements and peddling the unfounded rumour as mischief-makers and agents of dark and evil forces, which will never have the upper hand in Ekiti.
He described the suggestion that he was getting ready to dump PDP as sheer misrepresentation and deliberate falsehood.
“You don’t just walk out of relationships just like that,” he said, adding that he was being misrepresented for political gains by those who do not wish PDP, Nigeria and Nigerians well.
“Despite its orchestrated leadership problems, PDP remains the stronger party in Nigeria today; by far stronger and more cohesive than any other party in the country. The PDP still remains a solid, nationalistic, and pro-people political party”, he added
Fayose expressed optimism that PDP will come out of its present challenges stronger and better than before.
“Nigerians have a lot of respect for me and my voice. This I cannot trade for a piece of morsel like the biblical Esau”.
“I want to say categorically that the shenanigans of Ondo governorship elections cannot be repeated in Ekiti; they delude themselves if they think they can. I want to assure them that I am not a General without an army.
“I want to also assure them that even if they bring all the funds in Treasury Single Account (TSA) to Ekiti in 2018, supported by all the machinery the Presidency can muster, they will be treated like the Philistines and Egyptians of the Bible. I am the Biblical Israel that has never and can never be defeated”

Yobe state governor, Ibrahim Gaidam on Thursday, December 1, ordered a commissioner sleeping at the presentation of the 2017 budget to the State House of Assembly to go home for more sleep.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) the governor had barely commenced reading the budget speech when the cabinet member started snoring.
Gaidam warned that henceforth any public officer caught sleeping would be sacked.
He said: “As from today, any commissioner or special adviser caught sleeping stands sacked and will immediately be replaced.
