<title>NWOSU Art Society Silent Auction in the Library</title>

<summary type="html"><![CDATA[Right now, the NWOSU Art Society (NAS) is holding a silent auction in the library. Funds from the silent auction will go toward the Art Society, a student club that promotes the arts within the larger Northwestern Oklahoma State University community.]]></summary>
<content type="html"><![CDATA[<p class="lead">Take a piece of <abbr class="initialism" title="Northwestern Oklahoma State University">NWOSU</abbr> home with you.</p><p class="has-drop-cap">Right now, the <abbr class="initialism" title="Northwestern Oklahoma State University">NWOSU</abbr> Art Society (<abbr>NAS</abbr>) is holding a silent auction in the library. The items for sale are works of art that have been left behind in the Art Department. Funds from the silent auction will go toward the Art Society, a student club with the goal of promoting the arts within the larger Northwestern Oklahoma State University community.</p><p>If one of these works is yours and you wish to recover it, you can contact any of the people listed at the end of this post.</p><p>To participate in the auction, visit our library to view the available art.</p><h2>How to Bid</h2><ul><li class="mb-3">Each item has a number tag (usually in the lower right corner). Find the corresponding tag in the folder and write your name, contact information, and the amount you would like to bid.</li><li class="mb-3">The minimum bid for all items is $<span class="num-cap">2.00</span>. You can bid as much as you want, but please use whole-dollar increments.</li><li class="mb-3">Check back often to see if you are the highest bidder.</li><li>Winners will be contacted on or before <time datetime="2024-11-22">November 22</time><sup>nd</sup> and can pay via cash or check. High bidders have until <time datetime="2024-11-25">November 25</time><sup>th</sup> to pay.</li></ul><p><strong>The auction ends at <time class="small-caps" datetime="17:00">5:00 </time></strong><abbr title="post meridiem"><strong><time class="small-caps" datetime="17:00">pm</time></strong></abbr><strong> on <time datetime="2024-11-21">Thursday, November 21</time><sup>st</sup>.</strong></p><p>Winners will be notified via their given contact information on or before <time datetime="2024-11-22">Friday, November 22</time><sup>nd</sup>. <title>Haunted Oklahoma</title>

<summary type="html"><![CDATA[Halloween is here once again, and that means it’s time for ghost stories! We’ve hunted the internet for three of the spookiest, scariest, allegedly haunted sites in Oklahoma. One of them is right here in our town!]]></summary>
<content type="html"><![CDATA[<p class="lead">Spooktacular sites in Oklahoma!</p><p class="has-drop-cap">It’s Halloween once again, and that means it’s time for ghosts and ghost stories! Oklahoma has gathered its fair share of ghost stories and allegedly haunted locations. Sites all over the internet describe its various haunts of old hotels, old theaters, abandoned buildings, and more. Some of these spooky rumors draw on the state’s rich history (and some appear to be entirely fabricated). Described below are three of the most famous places in Oklahoma where people have claimed to see, hear, or feel ghosts. Public domain.</p></footer></figure><h2>Stone Lion Inn Bed &amp; Breakfast</h2><p>Appearing on many lists of Oklahoma’s haunted places, this bed and breakfast in Guthrie <a class="text-secondary" href="#fig-1">(Figure 1)</a> advertises its alleged haunting as a tourist attraction. <q cite="https://www.hauntedrooms.com/oklahoma/haunted-places/haunted-hotels/stone-lion-inn-guthrie">It was once the home of Mr. and Mrs. Houghton and their twelve children. However, one of the Houghton children, Augusta, became ill and died of whooping cough after the nurse gave her the wrong medicine</q> <a class="text-secondary" href="#ref-3">(<cite>Haunted Rooms</cite>, <abbr title="no date">n.d.</abbr>)</a>. Copyright <time datetime="2014">2014</time> <cite>Abandoned </cite><abbr title="Oklahoma"><cite>OK</cite></abbr>.</p></footer></figure><h2>Saint Vincent’s Mental Asylum</h2><p>Some particularly morbid historical events are associated with Saint Vincent’s Mental Asylum in Oklahoma City <a class="text-secondary" href="#fig-2">(Figure 2)</a>. This mental asylum was founded in <time datetime="1945">1945</time> by a religious order called the Brothers of Mercy. In 1962, a nurse suffocated two patients to death, after which the asylum closed down <a class="text-secondary" href="#ref-1">(Ashley, <time datetime="2023">2023</time>)</a>.</p><p>In <time datetime="1968">1968</time>, Reverend Richard Frank Dolan turned the building into a rehabilitation center for recovering alcoholics, called The Main Artery. In <time datetime="1988">1988</time>, as reported in <cite class="italic">The Oklahoman</cite>, <abbr title="Father">Fr.</abbr> Dolan was found beaten to death in his apartment, though by that time, the Main Artery had already closed and Dolan was no longer an active priest <a class="text-secondary" href="#ref-4">(Minty, <time datetime="1988">1988</time>)</a>.</p><p class="mb-0">In the 1980s, <abbr title="Saint">St.</abbr> Vincent’s building served as a haunted house attraction <a class="text-secondary" href="#ref-2">(Cowan, <time datetime="2014">2014</time>)</a>, which might be the main reason it appears in lists of haunted locations. Formerly, the museum building was a hospital. As is often the case with old hospitals, people have claimed to see evidence of hauntings.</p><figure class="apa-quote"><blockquote cite="https://www.travelok.com/listings/view.profile/id.1305"><p>Since the Cherokee Strip Museum is housed in an old hospital, it has seen its share of death and is reported to be haunted by patients of botched surgeries. <summary type="html"><![CDATA[Come down to the library or check our web resources to get what you need for your classes this semester.]]></summary>
<content type="html"><![CDATA[<p class="lead">The fall term is underway! As you're adjusting (or readjusting) to life at the university, don’t forget to stop by the library.</p><p>The J. W. Martin Library, located on the Alva campus, has the resources you’ll need to succeed in your classes. You might not be thinking about them yet, but you’ll have research projects coming later, and when you do, give us a call or visit. We are open from 7:45 <span class="small-caps">am</span> until midnight on most days of the week. Check our <a href="https://library.nwosu.edu/about/hours">Calendar Page</a> for hours and upcoming events.</p><p>Even if you’re not here in Alva, you still get the same access to our resources that the Alva students do. Our online <a href="https://library.nwosu.edu/az/databases">Research Databases</a> are available twenty-four hours a day no matter where you are. If you need books from our print collection, we can <a href="https://library.nwosu.edu/about/services/interlibrary-loan">ship them to other campuses by courier or even mail them to your home</a>.</p><p>And even if it turns out we don’t have what you need, we can order from another library.</p>]]></content>

<title>Check Out Our New Pages</title>

Further refinements are ongoing.</p><p>In addition, <abbr class="initialism" title="Elton B. <title>Laptops Available for Checkout</title>

<title>APA and Paper-Writing Workshops</title>

W. However, the room is back up and running. If you wish to use this room, simply ask at the front desk of the <b>J. W. Martin Library</b><span class="bold">.</span></p>

W. Martin Library is temporarily <strong>closed</strong><span class="bold">.</span></p><p>Room 7 contains our <span class="initialism">SMART</span> Board and computer. The computer has stopped functioning. We are working with <abbr class="initialism" title="Information Technology">IT</abbr> to get things working again.</p>
