According to leaked market data originally uncovered by Russian newspaper Kommersant, local workers have quietly revived assembly lines to build unauthorized variants of the BMW X5, X6, and X7. Assembled using leftover components and partially outdated production kits abandoned in 2022, these vehicles carry a unique quirk: they retain the pre-facelift body styling of 2022 models but are legally registered as 2025 and 2026 vehicles.

As original German components dwindle, builders have increasingly turned to unvetted, locally sourced components. Wiring harnesses, rubber hoses, and body panels are being retrofitted to bridge the gaps.

Dead Software Rebranded As A "Feature"

The strangest part of this gray-market pipeline isn't just the physical mashup of parts—it’s the digital side. Because BMW severed its connection to Russian infrastructure, these vehicles operate on entirely frozen or reprogrammed software isolated from official corporate servers.

Remarkably, dealerships have flipped this major security and update flaw into a selling point. Salesmen are marketing the disconnected software as a privacy feature, promising wealthy buyers that Western corporate entities cannot track, update, or remotely disable their vehicles.

High Prices, Higher Demand

Despite having zero factory oversight, zero warranties, and zero safety guarantees from Germany, Russian consumers are eagerly lining up. These Frankenstein SUVs fetch anywhere from 11.9 million to 13.6 million rubles—roughly $154,000 to $172,000. While that looks like Range Rover money to an American buyer, it represents a massive discount inside Russia's heavily sanctioned luxury vehicle market. In fact, local market data shows localized BMW sales nearly tripled year-on-year in 2025 because these bootleg models are significantly cheaper than paying astronomical premiums for fully imported gray-market vehicles.

BMW Group has explicitly distanced itself from the operation, issuing warnings to retailers and consumers regarding the extreme safety and quality risks of buying vehicles built completely outside corporate oversight. Still, with experts estimating that the remaining parts cache could fuel low-volume production for years to come, Russia's black-market Bimmers aren't hitting the brakes anytime soon.

Carwow has delivered another high-stakes runway battle, but this time all eyes are on the jaw-dropping Maserati GT2 Stradale supercar. Mat Watson and his team lined up this radical, road-legal race car against its civilized stablemates, including the Grecale Trofeo, GranTurismo Trofeo, and MCPura Cielo. While the other models focus heavily on grand-touring comfort, the GT2 Stradale brings aggressive motorsport aerodynamics and an uncompromising, track-focused attitude to the starting line.

This drag race serves as a fascinating study in weight reduction and track engineering. As rumors circulate that major foreign automakers are eyeing premium Italian assets, the GT2 Stradale stands out as a halo car that asserts the brand's racing heritage. It aggressively strips away unnecessary luxury fluff to maximize raw performance, making it the definitive vehicle to watch on the tarmac.

AWD vs RWD: The GT2 is Legit

The standing quarter-mile race began with a harsh lesson in traction physics. Off the line, the heavy Grecale SUV and the sleek GranTurismo Trofeo utilized their all-wheel-drive systems to rocket ahead. For the first few hundred feet, these luxury cruisers actually led the pack, proving that street-biased grip can initially embarrass a rear-wheel-drive track monster on an unprepared runway.

However, the GT2 Stradale quickly turned the tide as its massive rear tires found purchase. Generating an incredible 640 horsepower and weighing just 3,230 pounds, the carbon-fiber weapon clawed back the deficit with terrifying acceleration. It effortlessly reeled in the entire field, blasting past the open-top Cielo and the all-wheel-drive models to cross the finish line first.

The subsequent rolling race completely eliminated the launching disadvantage, allowing the GT2 Stradale to flex its motorsport muscles. Without the threat of wheelspin, the track special walked away from its siblings instantly, showing the benefit of its aerodynamic downforce. Even with upcoming product updates for the volume models, nothing in the current stable matches the sheer velocity of this racing machine.

Sometimes the automotive world needs a breather, something purely born out of creation and curiosity. In these rare instances, we get a glimpse into the minds of some very resourceful car people who come up with some interesting modified creations.

One such creation is now making the rounds online with no true real-world applications, just for the sake of laughs.

The BMW That Isn't A BMW That Was a VW

CarScoops reported something very interesting from China. Apparently, four years ago, a Volkswagen Lamando went viral after someone converted and modified it. Instead of adding power or body kits, the car was widened- yes, you read that right, not elongated, widened. Instead of more legroom, you get more width, to the tune of 10 feet in total width after the modders were finished.

In an even more interesting take, the already-comical 10-foot Lamando has undergone another major transformation. From VW, it now takes the form of another German model, the iconic M3. As a form of jest and poking fun, the creators have actually called it the M3 squared, in reference to its also large width of 10 feet. Automotive fans need not pick up the pitchforks, because as mentioned, this is just a redressed VW Lamando; a pristine G80 BMW M3 was not harmed in the making of this.

The fact is, while this project seems ridiculous, they did a pretty good job of making it look as if they used a real M3; all the details of the G80's exterior seem to be matched pretty well, including the headlights, which appear real or might be really good replicas. To add more design cues to the M3-squared, there is an additional pair of the oddly shaped kidney grilles, bringing the total to 4. If they thought it made the whole car look more proportional, well... everyone's entitled to their own opinions.

Volkswagen is Skin Deep

Mechanically, this creation retains its VW origins; the interior is unmistakably a Lamando's, with no changes apart from covering the steering wheel logo and what appears to be a large infotainment screen in front of the passenger. The interior was also converted into a lounge style, with beanbags for added comfort.

Mechanically, the M3-squared is still using the same Lamando-derived 1.4-liter engine, so your guess as to how it performs is as good as anyone else's.

Brands like Audi and Lancia may be the most remembered names from the infamous Group B era, but Ford also joined the slugfest. Perhaps because it never stood atop the Group B podium, the Blue Oval isn't remembered to the same extent, but its campaign still paved the way for the RS200, a homologation special limited to just 200 road-going examples.

After Group B ended in 1986, Ford’s remaining RS200 factory inventory was later purchased by British firm R.T. Quaife Engineering. Those parts, including unbuilt tubs, body panels, and engines, helped create this unique 1998 RS200 listed by DK Engineering. It was assembled with Gordon Spooner Engineering, the company behind Ford’s factory rally cars, and built to Evo 2 specification, the more extreme version of the RS200.

Standing Apart

According to the listing, this example is understood to be the only RS200 finished in silver. It comes with 18-inch Raceline competition wheels, Hella 2000 lenses and covers, and the Evo-spec “bunny ears.” Inside, the cabin follows the standard configuration with red bucket seats and a red-rimmed steering wheel, though it gets upgraded carbon-fiber door cards.

The mid-mounted 1.8-liter turbocharged engine produces around 400 horsepower, sitting between the standard RS200’s 250 hp output and the more powerful Group B rally cars. That figure comes from revised camshafts and other motorsport-specification upgrades. While the listing mentions only a 5-speed manual gearbox, the car likely retained its all-wheel-drive system, a layout ideal for rallying. Audi also made the layout famous with the Quattro.

This RS200, which currently has 2,200 miles on the odometer, also received service work in preparation for the sale, including new high-pressure fuel pumps, a new alternator, a turbocharger rebuild, and other work costing £13,500, or roughly $18,400 at current exchange rates.

Rally Roots Run Deep

The asking price for this unique left-hand-drive rally special isn't disclosed. It is also located outside London, making it a bit more difficult for interested American buyers to get, even if its age should make importation less complicated than it would be for a newer car.

That’s just the reality for many American buyers interested in Ford’s rally heritage, which has always been more prominent in Europe. In the U.S., the automaker's image is more closely tied to pickup trucks like the F-Series. Looking ahead, the company appears to be leaning on its motorsports heritage with new rally-inspired models, including electric vehicles developed in collaboration with Renault. Again, however, those models are not expected to make their way stateside.

The BMW iX3 has one of the longest ranges among compact luxury crossovers. Based on EPA ratings, the 50 xDrive model can get up to 434 miles on a single charge. More interestingly, the Norwegian Automobile Federation (NAF) managed to eke more out of it. NAF tested a group of EVs during summer, and the EV crossover managed 485 miles in real-world testing, over 50 miles more than the EPA rating.

A big factor in that is the large battery pack. The 50 xDrive has a 108.7 kWh capacity, which is sizable compared to its peers, and even the two-wheel-drive 40 model still has a fairly large 82.6 kWh pack. That said, it's not even the largest battery pack BMW puts in one of its cars.

The iX5's Whopping Battery Size

But the iX3's pack pales in comparison to the iX5. The midsize luxury crossover comes in at 144 kWh, easily making it the largest pack BMW has put in any vehicle. Although it doesn't use the Neue Klasse platform, the folks from Munich managed to turn the old CLAR platform into an 800V architecture.

So, how did BMW achieve that? That's thanks to the taller battery cells, but likely due to the car's weight, the EPA range is 435 miles, just one more than the iX3. That said, if it had the same cells as the iX3, the iX5 would probably have far less range than currently advertised. It wouldn't be a good look for it, either.

No Sharing?

In this age of platform sharing and cost minimization, one would think that the iX5's arrangement would be lent to the iX3. However, that won't be the case, according to BMW. Speaking to BMWBlog, the very reason why the iX5 has that much capacity is why the packs can't be placed in its smaller sibling.

The cells in the iX5 are 120mm (4.7 inches) tall, whereas they are 95mm (3.7 inches) in the iX3. Packaging limitations mean that's a no from the get-go. Again, the iX5 is not a Neue Klasse-platform vehicle despite appearances, and the CLAR platform floor can apparently accommodate the taller cells. All in all, a logical and reasonable explanation. Either way, if that kind of battery capacity were put in the iX3, it would probably come with an absurd amount of range that's bordering on overkill. There's a chance it would bring the price up by a shocking amount.

Could Other Cars Use It?

BMW didn't say if the iX5's battery pack will be used for other models. That said, the next-generation X7 is expected to get an EV version, and it could be called the iX7. If anything, it'll probably need even taller cells, given the model's potential weight and size. Another model that could benefit from it would be the i7, but likely for the next generation, as the current one was just given a major facelift.

Perhaps future iterations of the Neue Klasse architecture can fit larger battery packs. Then again, battery technology is advancing at a pace where efficiency breakthroughs can occur quickly. That means large packs won't be needed to achieve long ranges, which is the long-term goal for EVs. For now, though, big packs are the way to go, just like the one in the iX5.

Harder Hyundai Tucson Design Aims to Replicate Others' Success

The existing Tucson is an attractive vehicle, but it's perhaps a little too pretty, even in the off-road-biased XRT trim, and Hyundai wants the new model to appeal to more than just the city slicker. This may take time, but as the completely redesigned Subaru Outback shows, more aggressive looks can help attract new buyers. The next Tucson won't be a Jeep Wrangler rival, but it should at least look more utilitarian, like the Toyota RAV4 or Honda CR-V Trailsport, for example, with sharper lines, a less curved roofline, bulkier and squarer wheel arches, and a longer hood. This may even be a clamshell to create a stronger front fascia with neater shutlines, and the lighting will feature slim DRLs rather than a plethora of grille-integrated LEDs like the current Tucson.

At the back, we see a full-width light bar, but it's inside where the changes will be especially obvious. Basically, imagine the new Avante/Elantra crossed with the Santa Fe, and you should have a rough idea of what to expect. What will appear under the hood remains an unknown, but we expect new hybrid offerings, likely accompanied by turbocharged four-cylinders.

2027 Hyundai Tucson to Feature New PLEOS Infotainment

The big addition to all new Hyundais going forward is the new PLEOS infotainment system, which will pair a 9.9-inch, narrow bar of a driver instrument cluster with a huge 17-inch central touchscreen display. The Android-based operating system is said to have a smartphone-like interface and will offer an integrated app store to make vehicle integration easier. As is the trend with all automakers of late, AI will make an appearance through "Gleo," an assistant that should allow for natural conversation when setting navigation routes or climate controls. Fortunately, the cabin will remain a button-rich environment, and that includes the steering wheel. Rather than opting for touch-sensitive haptic pads, normal buttons that you can feel your way around while keeping your eyes on the road appear on both horizontal spokes, though the wheel itself has jumped on the squircle bandwagon. We've still got a few months of spying before we learn exactly what Hyundai has planned for America and other markets, with a reveal expected in late autumn, but we'll update you as more information becomes available.

Last year's record was set by the faster, more powerful, limited-run M2 CS, and some, including me, felt that, as impressive as the time was, beating the previous record holder, the Audi RS 3, with a special edition was kinda cheating. Well, BMW returned to the 'Ring on May 22 to rectify the problem, because this Track Kit is for any ol' M2; it's "just" an options package.

The M2 CS makes a fantastic 532 horsepower from its S58 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder, but the regular M2 responsible for this record uses the same engine but in a lesser state of tune (473 hp), including for the transmission. With the Track Kit, the M2 gains an adjustable front splitter, dive planes, a manually adjustable top-hung/swan-neck rear wing with a dedicated Race Mode (the splitter and wing are meant to stay in a certain, less aggressive setting when the car is driven on the road), and motorsport-derived yet road-legal coilover suspension with four-stage rebound and compression damping adjustment. The M2 gets 20 millimeters (0.7 in.) lower as a result, but BMW hasn't revealed any downforce figures. Still, it clearly works, with BMW test engineer for chassis development, the record-holding Jörg Weidinger overseeing the overall setup.

Yes, it's only half a second faster than an M2 CS over 12.944 miles, but at €23,500 ($26,834), an M2 (€77,500/$88,487) with the Track Kit (€101,000 total/$115,318) is still a lot cheaper than the limited edition (€115,000/$131,303). Sadly, this kit is being launched in Germany, not the U.S., but at least our M2 and M2 CS are cheaper, at $69,000 and $98,600, respectively, plus $1,175 for destination. Would the new M2 xDrive go faster? It's heavier, but BMW said the temperatures of both the atmosphere and the asphalt were high, so an AWD M2 could well find some performance in cooler temperatures, but ideal conditions are rare at the Green Hell.

An M2 CSL Could Still Happen

Last year, BMW M's veteran former head of engineering, Dirk Häcker, was asked by BMWBlog about the possibility of an M2 CSL. He said, "I think it's one of the options we can perhaps discuss in the next [few] years, because we have started with the car two years ago. It could be an option. The point is, what is the next big step to increase the performance? It's possible, but there's no decision to do that."

The G87 was first shown to the public in 2022, so it's currently around the middle of its life cycle, and that means BMW will doubtless find more ways to celebrate the model beyond just the CS. The remarkably composed M4-based (CLAR) G87 M2 is still more civilized than the rawer F87 that came before, but BMW has been slowly turning the wick up. BMW created the M2 in manual or auto, now with RWD or AWD, then the M2 CS, and now the M2 CS Track Kit. Perhaps all of these cars are helping BMW develop a new halo for the M2 before the next generation inevitably gets even heavier and makes the L in CSL even harder to justify.

What to Expect From Bentley's New Crossover

The solitary teaser image reveals the tailgate of a crossover, with a flat hatch featuring the Bentley wings in the middle and a pair of horizontally aligned and intricately detailed taillights on each side. Up front, we expect a more upright fascia, potentially with inspiration from the EXP 15 concept, but this teaser seems fairly curvaceous. A license plate recess sits in the lower section of the bumper, and higher up, a roof spoiler is evident, apparently featuring some carbon fiber. Bentley will want to save as much weight as possible because the Torcal is expected to be the brand's first all-electric vehicle, one we've spied on multiple occasions. Under the skin is the 800-volt Premium Platform Electric architecture found under the new Porsche Cayenne EV, which means we can expect a dual-motor AWD powertrain, a range of over 300 miles (Bentley says buyers won't need more), and a peak charging rate of 400 kW.

Previously referred to as the Luxury Urban SUV, the Torcal will be less than 5 meters (16.4 feet) in length so that wealthy city-dwelling buyers can legally park on the street. Despite market conditions suggesting that EVs aren't yet ready for prime time, Bentley is adamant that it won't pivot to hybrid combustion power for this new crossover, though a second EV won't arrive until after the end of the decade.

Bentley Torcal Will Have a Lavish Interior

Bentley hasn't revealed the cabin of its new creation yet, but spy shots have confirmed a two-tone leather interior with a three-spoke steering wheel bearing physical roller switches. A stalk alongside the steering column with apparent Audi influence was also seen, and along with a digital cluster for the driver, the dashboard will house a curved infotainment screen in portrait orientation, shared with the Cayenne EV. We'll learn more on 23 September 2026, when the Torcal will debut in London for the 2027 model year. Will it be a strong seller in the U.S.? That remains to be seen, but given the wealth of EV options out there, Crewe will have its work cut out for it.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is one of the most coveted 911 variants, especially among enthusiasts who appreciate track-focused upgrades. The only catch is that it usually sits near the top of the range, alongside models like the Turbo S, which, as the name suggests, uses a turbocharged setup instead.

But as they always say, if there’s a will, there’s a way. That is what YouTuber Mat Armstrong proved with a lemon Porsche 911 GT3 RS from the previous 991 generation, which he bought for £87,000, or about $116,000 at current exchange rates. Because of its issues, Porsche allegedly refused to repair the car under warranty, with Armstrong saying the engine wear did not match the mileage shown on the car. According to him, the automaker suspected that a mileage blocker may have been used.

That is why Armstrong, who previously DIY’d his way around Bugatti’s expensive service bill for a Veyron, decided to fix the 911 GT3 RS himself.

Digging Deeper

Some of the issues he found included loose sump plugs, which he suspected may have lowered the oil level and contributed to the engine problems. He also found a missing fuel pump fuse sitting on the passenger seat, which prevented the car from starting, along with missing camshaft finger followers and a damaged intake camshaft lobe.

Identifying those problems allowed him to source the parts needed to get the engine running again. Armstrong said the replacement parts cost around £5,500, or about $7,300. Later in the repair process, he suspected that when the engine had previously been rebuilt, the cam variators on one side had been installed incorrectly. After correcting the cam variators and timing the engine, the car ran properly without warning lights on the dashboard.

Worth The Effort?

The 911 GT3 RS was sent to a Porsche technician for a 111-point inspection in a bid to regain the warranty. After the inspection, Armstrong said the result was generally positive, but it still was not enough to immediately reinstate the warranty due to a few remaining concerns. These reportedly included potential issues with the axle joints, brake pads, and the roll cage, which was said to be causing unusual noise and vibration.

He also noted that the warranty would only be considered once those issues were fixed and after he had owned the car for 90 days.

All this work may not go in vain. According to Armstrong’s estimates, after spending around £92,000, or about $122,700, the car could be worth around £135,000 to £140,000, or roughly $180,000 to $186,700. On paper, that works out to an estimated profit of around $60,000, before any taxes, fees, or other selling costs. On top of that, the project also gave him content for his YouTube channel and personal brand.

The complaint was filed in a California federal court and argues that the automaker knew about the issue before the affected vehicles were sold, yet failed to disclose it to customers.

Faulty Rear Window Design

According to the lawsuit, the problem affects certain 2019 and 2020 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500, 2500 HD and 3500 HD models equipped with rear sliding windows. The plaintiff, Filiberto Loza Gonzalez, claims the plastic-framed rear window assembly can develop leaks around its seals, allowing water to enter the rear of the cabin. Besides causing inconvenience, the complaint alleges that prolonged water intrusion can damage electrical components and interior trim, and even encourage mould growth. The lawsuit stems from Gonzalez's experience with his 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 after he reportedly discovered water entering the cabin while washing the vehicle.

Although a dealership confirmed the leak and carried out repairs, Gonzalez says he was left with a repair bill of more than $1,000. The lawsuit also warns that the consequences could extend well beyond a wet interior, stating: "Electrical failure can result in vehicles being unsafe to drive due to the failures of the electrical and mechanical systems, rendering them unfit for safe operation on the roadway."

Technical Bulletin Under Scrutiny

A major focus of the complaint is GM's Technical Service Bulletin 18-NA-383, which outlines repair procedures for water leaks around the rear sliding window. According to the filing, the bulletin has been revised numerous times over the years. The service bulletin's existence suggests the issue has appeared on previous vehicles, lending weight to the plaintiff's argument that this is far from the first time owners have experienced the leak. The lawsuit goes even further, claiming: "GM has willfully, knowingly and wrongfully failed to disclose the existence of the water intrusion defect to consumers."

GM is also facing another class action lawsuit involving its 10-speed automatic transmission. On top of that, the company has recently had to recall more than 26,000 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans over a steering gear defect. Despite these legal challenges, GM remains America's best-selling automaker after delivering 714,896 vehicles in the United States during the second quarter of 2026.

Jury Trial Requested

The rear window lawsuit adds yet another legal challenge for the Detroit automaker, although it remains in its early stages. Gonzalez is seeking a jury trial and is asking the court to award declaratory relief along with exemplary, compensatory, and statutory damages on behalf of himself and all proposed class members. Whether the case ultimately results in compensation or no liability at all will be decided in court. For now, however, it adds another lawsuit to GM's growing list of legal battles and places fresh attention on whether the company acted in good faith after becoming aware of the alleged defect.

Mercedes-Benz had a rocky start with its electric vehicles. Its initial models, namely the EQS and EQE, weren't warmly received. It tried to add electric crossovers to boost appeal, but the first EQ cars had quickly become a money-losing experiment.

But then, things started to turn around. Ditching the separate models-for-EVs strategy, the recovery began with the electric CLA, finally earning praise that Mercedes had long been waiting for when it comes to its EVs. After that, it was the GLC EV, also receiving critical acclaim.

The question now is this: Can Mercedes make it three out of three with the C-Class EV? Autocar was granted a first ride on it, and the British publication made some pretty bold claims.

From the Passenger Seat

Autocar noted that the car was docile for something that packed over 480 hp. Whether it's because of the silence or refinement, those looking for a quiet cruiser will probably like it, but those seeking more involvement might not. Then again, the electric C-Class isn't pitched as a sport sedan, even though there are AMG-style packages available.

But what was most notable to us was the comfort. The publication praised it for its refinement, with tire noise being kept to a minimum. As for the ride, it was described as "plush, yet not too wallowy." Now, we're not expecting S-Class levels here, but we're genuinely curious if it floats or glides. Yes, there is a difference.

In a sportier setting, the ride is said to become noticeably firmer. Hopefully, that doesn't translate to 'needlessly stiff' as in many cases, but the general vibe of the new electric C-Class is on the calmer side.

Not Perfect, but Promising

So, a decent, if limited, first impression, but the magazine did point out one or two things it didn't like about it as early as now. In the metal, it was mentioned that it looked a little too slab-sided, along with 'a hint of the EQE's egginess.' Then there's the grille, or rather the number of stars on the grille.

Autocar said it was 'peacocking' in an age where more automakers are going for a little more visual restraint. Also, while not a criticism, the car's rear-wheel steering becomes more pronounced in a sportier mode, which is fine for the one behind the wheel, but perhaps giving the passengers a heads-up might help.

Still, it's a car that holds a lot of promise. The publication stated that the BMW i3 should be worried about it. Of course, the only way we'll ever get to know is if we can actually put the two cars side by side. That said, for those who find the C-Class EV too out there, there's no need to worry, as the updated fuel-fed model is coming soon, along with the return of six-cylinder power.

First Hennessey Venom F5-M Debuts in Gold and Purple Glory

The first production Hennessey Venom F5-M is going to a U.K.-based customer who specced their car through the Texas-based outfit's Maverick bespoke division and has chosen exposed purple carbon fiber for the body with anodized gold accents making the car pop. A 24-karat gold badge on the nose and their commissioning family's name, 'Sheikh,' has been added to the rear of the car and the interior stitching. Speaking of the cabin, the gated billet aluminum shifter has also been given a gold finish, as have the center console and the air conditioning vents. The auric hue also appears on the charge pipes in the engine bay that feed boosted air pressure from the massive Precision turbos to the 6.6-liter 'Fury' V8.

To provide greater contrast and more of a wow factor inside the Roadster, the leather upholstery is a pure white for the seats, door cards, and steering yoke, while less obvious details include hand-painted British Union and American Stars and Stripes flags that are hand-painted on either end of the 55-inch dorsal fin above the engine. While the F5-M is limited to only a dozen examples, its updated carbon fiber chassis architecture and the option of a manual transmission will be available to other F5 variants, including closed-roof Coupe variants and the track-biased Revolution models. Now that F5-M production models have begun being unveiled, it won't be long before the creative minds at Hennessey start getting bored and choose to work on something new. The company has already hinted at a new hypercar, so we just need to be patient. Hopefully, we'll see more at next year's Festival of Speed, but in the meantime, Monterey Car Week takes place next month, and Hennessey will doubtless make a splash there too. One thing about car concepts is that they can spark ideas and design cues that may later be used for production models. This internship project, shared by Volkswagen design boss Andreas Mindt, shows a very future-forward take on a VW supercar called the ID.DIN T14.

According to Mindt, designer Fabian Reitz took a more logical, technical approach, grounding the project in precision, structure, and function rather than purely emotional or artistic expression. The result is a simpler and more easily understood design, the kind of minimalist-esque thinking that can already be seen in road-going models like the Tesla Model 3. This particular sketch is also reminiscent of Audi’s Concept C and the new Nuvolari.

Technical By Design

Audi is under the Volkswagen Group, so a broader connection is not hard to imagine. What is immediately apparent is the monolithic body, minimal surfacing, and canopy-style cabin. But it is not as straightforward as it first seems, as the ID.DIN T14 also gets pronounced wheel arches and a massive rear diffuser that give it a more aggressive character.

Not a lot of technical details were disclosed about the sketch. However, it does raise the question of whether Volkswagen will ever tap into extreme creations again. One of the automaker’s best-known entries into that space was the ID.R, an all-electric prototype that still holds the overall Pikes Peak record in Colorado. Speaking of the ID.R, it also shares some visual similarities with this concept.

Wishful Thinking

While a production version of something like this would be compelling, it is worth noting that halo supercars are rarely easy business cases, as evidenced by the Lexus LFA. Volkswagen is still navigating the modern era of electrification, where choosing the right powertrain strategy can make or break a product plan. Many automakers are still trying to recover from EV-related spending, while VW is also preparing more affordable small electric cars in Europe.

Still, concepts like this show that Volkswagen's performance ambitions could extend well beyond the Golf GTI and Golf R. Whether that ever translates into a production supercar is another question entirely. The reception to the Audi Nuvolari could offer a glimpse of whether this more technical design language has real appeal.

It's tough to reinvent your brand if you've already become something of an "establishment"; any changes, big or small, could be met with ridicule. Even worse is if loyal fans and customers are completely turned away because of said changes.

Jaguar's currently undergoing its biggest shakeup since, probably, its creation, turning itself from a purveyor of old-school British performance and luxury into what it defines as the new ideals of luxury and sustainability. To accommodate the new branding, Jaguar quietly halted production last year, but it seems not all cars have been sold yet.

Years-Old Brand-New Jag

When the new branding was unveiled last year, people were expecting the new GT EV to debut soon after to capitalize on the momentum. However, for various reasons, the new car has been delayed, with reports now claiming it will (possibly) be ready towards the end of the year.

Now it's also being reported that while production of previous-generation Jaguars has stopped, the final batches of cars are still sitting in dealership lots across the nation, according to a report by CarScoops. After a quick research, it was revealed that over 900 units of older-model Jaguars are still available for new purchases. The 900 cars include an interesting mix, ranging from the 2024 E-Pace to the 2026 F-Pace SVR.

Savings Galore

Since these are technically run-out models, heavy discounts have been applied. In the report, it was found that one of the cheapest Jaguars is a 2024 E-Pace P250. While it's old stock, the dealer listed it at $42,668, which is $10,000 less than the original MSRP. Looking at some non-EV options, there is a 2024 XF R-Dynamic SE for $51,603, a sizeable $5,000 off from the original price.

The bigger savings can be found in the more niche offerings; if you're okay with an older, somewhat range-derived EV, there are a few I-Pace models with discounts of up to $29,000, and, more surprisingly, a $20,000 discount on the V8 F-Type. Most of the remaining models, though, are the F-Pace, which isn't surprising, given it was the last car to cease production; some 2026 models are discounted by up to $10,000 off MSRP.

Nearly a decade after its unveiling, Tesla has finally started production of the Semi, its Class 8 truck powered solely by electricity. However, the rollout appears to have hit an early setback following reports of the Semi's first known fatal crash in Dayton, Nevada.

According to Forbes, citing the Nevada Highway Patrol and Lyon County Sheriff's Office, a Tesla Semi collided with two passenger vehicles at an intersection on U.S. 50 in late June 2026. Both occupants of a Volkswagen Beetle died from their injuries, while the Semi driver was uninjured.

Keeping Watch

Because the investigation is still ongoing, it would be unfair to draw conclusions. What is notable, however, is that preliminary statements suggested the Semi driver may have fallen asleep before the crash, despite reports that the all-electric truck is equipped with a driver-monitoring system. The technology can warn the centrally seated driver if it detects a lack of attention to the road.

The Tesla Semi does not offer Full Self-Driving (FSD). However, the automaker says the all-electric truck is equipped with active safety features and advanced motor and brake controls, which are especially important given its curb weight of around 20,000 pounds.

Considering the massive weight difference, a vintage VW Beetle was always likely to suffer catastrophic damage in a collision with a Class 8 truck.

Timing Couldn't Be Worse

As mentioned, the investigation is still ongoing, so several factors could have contributed to the crash, including driver error or a vehicle-related issue. If it turns out to be the latter, it would be a bad look for Tesla, especially as the Semi is just rolling out. Moreover, the company is already under scrutiny over fatal incidents involving its driver-assistance systems, including a recent case in which a grandmother was killed after a Model 3 allegedly on Autopilot crashed into her home, a claim the company denied.

For reference, the Semi is available in two trims: the Standard Range, with approximately 325 miles of range, and the Long Range, which increases that figure to approximately 500 miles. Using Tesla's Semi Chargers, the all-electric truck can recover up to 60% of its range in 30 minutes. That’s still longer than refueling, but it lines up nicely with the 30-minute break many U.S. long-haul drivers are subject to under federal regulations.

The legal headaches keep coming for Honda in 2026, and now the Honda Odyssey – the automaker’s family hauler – is back in the spotlight. The latest class action claims some Odyssey minivans have a faulty starting system that can leave drivers stranded in the middle of their daily routines.

This lawsuit isn't just a rerun of Honda's other legal troubles from earlier this year. This time, it's all about a stubborn starting problem that owners say haunts 2018-2025 Odyssey models.

The complaint says owners are getting stuck after parking or when the Odyssey's idle-stop system shuts off the engine at a red light. Instead of firing back up, the van might hesitate, refuse to crank, or force drivers to restart it themselves – sometimes while they're stuck in the middle of traffic. Honda hasn't said a word about the lawsuit yet.

What the Lawsuit Alleges

Filed in California, the lawsuit claims Honda sold Odysseys with a starting system that just doesn't cut it. The problems? Weak battery charging, starter motors that wear out too soon, and a starter-to-flywheel setup that isn't up to the job. According to the plaintiffs, all these issues can team up to leave the engine dead when you need it most.

According to the 132-page lawsuit, the defect shows up in two flavors: sometimes the Odyssey won't restart after the Auto Idle Stop kicks in at a stoplight, and other times it just refuses to start after being parked – even if you just ran into the store. Owners say they've been left stranded at intersections, in parking lots, and pretty much anywhere you don't want your minivan to quit.

Plaintiffs claim Honda knew about the problem, thanks to customer complaints, dealer reports, and technical bulletins. The company tried a few fixes – software updates here, a new starter there – but never rolled out a recall or a real solution for Odyssey owners. Now, the lawsuit is after damages, refunds, and anything else it can get for people stuck with the issue.

Another Entry on a Growing List

This Odyssey lawsuit is just the latest in a string of legal headaches for Honda this year, each one about a different problem. Earlier, Honda got sued over V6 engines with supposed bearing issues. Then came a class action about cameras that could knock out driver-assist features. And just last month, another lawsuit said some Odysseys had airbags that went off for no reason at all.

So far, none of these lawsuits have pinned anything on Honda, but together they show just how many problems the company is fighting in court right now. Like any class action, this latest case has to run the legal gauntlet before a judge decides if the claims stick or if the class gets certified.

Ford and Lincoln Hybrid SUV Recall

In a recall report published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Ford has traced the problem down to the following models:

• 2025-2027 Ford Explorer Hybrid (18,242 vehicles)
• 2024-2027 Lincoln Nautilus Hybrid (48,141 vehicles)

In both cases, models with the Phoenix sound system are affected. 

“The vehicle may not emit pedestrian warning sounds in certain instances where there is an error in the audio processing software and the vehicle is driven below 30 kph (~18-19 mph) in electric mode. This condition can occur randomly without input from the driver,” states the recall report.

As these SUVs are capable of being driven in fully electric mode at low speeds, pedestrians may not hear them approaching, which increases the risk of a collision. The Pedestrian Alert function occurs due to a software error in the DSP module or non-DSP related factors that Ford is still investigating.

The same vehicles were recalled in 2025 (recall number 25V691), so this is an expansion of the original recall. Vehicles initially repaired must have the new remedy completed, so some owners will face the inconvenience of having to take their vehicles to a dealer twice.

What Owners Should Do Now

Ford will be mailing interim owner notification letters between August 3 and August 7, 2026. This will be followed by mailing of owner notification letters once a full remedy is identified. In other words, it’s not clear when owners can expect a final fix.

Ford has only stated that Nautilus owners with the 28-speaker sound system equipped will be notified to have their DSP module replaced and software updated at no charge. However, if there is a non-DSP related fault, Ford has yet to determine a remedy for this.  

As of July 7, 2026, owners will be able to use their Vehicle Identification Numbers on the NHTSA to determine if their vehicle is part of the recall group. They may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 for more information using the recall number 26S51.

Explorer and Nautilus Hybrid drivers may notice a “Pedestrian Sounder Fault. Service Now.” warning in the instrument cluster if the fault occurs. We’d also recommend that these drivers exercise caution at lower speeds as nearby pedestrians may not hear them driving close by.

Multiple automakers have experienced recalls related to pedestrian-warning systems, which are typically software-controlled. The Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid and Dodge Charger Daytona are just two other examples, and it once again highlights how software problems have contributed to a large number of recalls in recent years.

Car loans have been stretching for years, but 2026 looks set to break new records. With prices and interest rates still sky-high, more buyers are signing up for seven-year loans (or even longer) just to keep their monthly payments from going off the rails.

The real shocker? 84-month loans are taking off. Experian Automotive says nearly 36% of new-car loans and almost a third of used-car loans now run longer than 72 months. The 73- to 84-month bracket is growing the fastest, and even loans longer than that – once unthinkable – are starting to pop up, according to Automotive News.

Finance managers say seven-year loans are now just part of the landscape. Some dealers are even seeing 84-month financing on used cars – a move that would have raised eyebrows not long ago. A few lenders are now dangling 96-month loans, but most dealers aren’t eager to push buyers that far out on a limb.

Dealers Say Longer Loans Come With Long-Term Risks

Stretching out a loan might make the monthly bill look friendlier, but dealers know it’s a ticking time bomb for problems later. An AutoPayPlus survey of roughly 250 dealership professionals found that 91% said at least half of their finance customers now take loans lasting 72 months or longer. Nearly two-thirds of respondents said more than 75% of their financed deals fall into that category.

When shoppers focus mainly on monthly payments, the most common solution is simply adding more months to the loan. About 60% of finance managers said extending the loan term is their primary strategy for helping payment-conscious buyers. Only a quarter said they first encouraged a larger down payment, while changing lenders or recommending biweekly payment schedules were far less common.

Dealers get why buyers are chasing longer loans, and that’s because cars aren’t getting any cheaper. But they’re also worried these stretched-out deals will keep people stuck in their cars for years, putting the brakes on trade-ins and slowing down the usual upgrade cycle.

Negative Equity Is Becoming a Bigger Concern

One of the nastiest side effects of these marathon loans is negative equity – that’s when you owe more than your car is actually worth. According to the AutoPayPlus survey, 51% of dealers said negative equity frequently prevents trade-in deals from closing, while another 40% said it happens in almost every deal.

Edmunds also found that 31% of trade-ins toward new vehicles in the first quarter carried negative equity, the highest level since early 2021. Buyers in that situation owed an average of $7,813 more than their vehicles were worth, a figure that has climbed sharply over the past five years.

Longer loans make it harder to build equity, plain and simple. Plenty of buyers who grabbed cars during the pandemic price spike are now learning their rides lost value faster than they can pay them off.

Dealers aren’t just thinking about today’s sale. The real worry is whether buyers locked into seven-year loans will be able – or even willing – to come back when it’s finally time for a new set of wheels.

A viral YouTube video completely shatters expectations about what modern software can do in the garage. The footage documents the YouTube channel Lets Learn Something, which uses artificial intelligence to calculate the exact geometry for a custom engine block. Before breaking down the details, it is worth noting that the video actually showcases a "Square Four" engine rather than a Boxer. A Square Four design arranges the cylinders in a distinct square formation rather than in horizontally opposed banks.

The builder refused to leave this experiment inside a computer screen. He sourced four junked scrap crankcases, cylinder heads, liners, and crankshafts to begin the build. He meticulously cleaned and machined the metal to match the precise specifications generated by the software. This required immense fabrication skills. He used heavy welding and custom metal plates to permanently fuse the broken scrap parts into one unified engine block.

The Frankenstein Fabrication Process

The creator acted as the ultimate translator between software code and raw steel. He plumbed custom pipes, fitted throttle bodies, and dropped the pistons into the cylinders by hand. Installing the four-speed transmission and drivetrain gears was the hardest part of the entire project. Getting those bearings properly aligned was a massive hurdle. It proved incredibly satisfying once the complex internal gearing finally clicked together and spun freely.

This rapid garage prototyping mirrors massive structural shifts happening across the wider automotive sector. Big legacy brands are completely rethinking their manufacturing workflows. We see this trend as major automakers like Nissan are slashing development timelines to stay competitive. Global markets are also shifting rapidly toward digital integration. Chinese car companies are racing to turn vehicles into highly intelligent rolling computers. Yet, the raw mechanical assembly in this video feels refreshingly analog.

The real magic happened when oil and gas finally entered the system. The creator cranked the custom motor and manually tweaked the vacuum, timing, and air intake to hold a steady idle. Without a tailpipe, the engine was violently loud inside the shop. It was unrefined and angry, but it worked perfectly. Interestingly, the deafening roar of that homebuilt engine is another data point today, as machine learning tools diagnose mechanical issues via audio signatures.

With the Audi R8 and Lamborghini Huracán gone, the V10 has effectively disappeared from new mass-production cars. Automakers have moved to smaller engines, often with electric motors that help not only with propulsion, but also with meeting emissions regulations. But in motorsports, the layout is not dead, and Judd Power’s GV V10 is one of the standout examples.

YouTuber Mike Fernie visited Judd Power’s shop and worked on a 5.5-liter GV V10 engine, which is rated at 800 horsepower and can rev up to 9,000 rpm. Judd Power has long supplied high-performance racing engines, including engines used in Formula 1. It was also involved in the McLaren Solus GT, a track-only, single-seat hypercar inspired by McLaren’s Vision Gran Turismo concept. It uses a Judd-built 5.2-liter V10 that revs to 10,000 rpm, with only 25 examples built.

Every Thousandth Counts

That makes Fernie’s visit more than just another build video. It started with lubricating the bearings before installing the crankshaft, which Fernie, who recently worked on a Subaru flat-four and Jaguar AJ16, described as lightweight. The team then measured the end float and used a custom micrometer to check the stretch of the connecting rod bolts.

Precision matters. Endurance engines sit at high rpm for long periods, and heat makes parts expand. Wrong clearance can result in friction, bearing wear, or overheating. The V10 also uses a dry-sump layout to keep oil supply consistent under hard cornering, braking, and acceleration. Its machining is so precise that it does not need a traditional head gasket, using O-rings to seal the oil and coolant passages instead.

After the engine block was done, the team installed the pumps, gears, cylinder heads, and camshafts. As a finishing touch, the Judd V10 inlets were installed to help smooth airflow and feed more air into the engine.

Icons Under One Roof

A quick walkaround also showed some of the engines at the shop, including a Ford-Cosworth DFV, considered one of the greatest racing engines of all time, along with a Nissan prototype V8, a Peugeot F1 V10, and a Mugen Formula 3000 engine.

Road-car V10s may be gone, but in motorsports, the layout still has some life. Many major racing programs have moved to V6 and V8 engines, including Cadillac, which currently competes in F1 and the World Endurance Championship, where the Michigan-based automaker fields the V8-powered V-Series.R Hypercar.

Geely’s rise in China has been nothing short of meteoric. What started as a maker of budget-friendly rides has morphed into a tech-savvy powerhouse, especially with its Galaxy sub-brand. The company isn’t shy about its global ambitions either, with Canada on its radar and the US likely not far behind.

Last month, Geely dropped the Galaxy Cruiser 700 – a plug-in hybrid SUV that’s gunning straight for the premium off-road crowd. With its boxy stance and tough-guy looks, it’s clearly eyeing the Toyota Land Cruiser’s lunch.

Now, Geely has finally let us peek into its cabin, and it’s kind of refreshing. While everyone else is busy deleting buttons, Geely’s mixing big digital screens with chunky, old-school switches that look ready for real off-road action.

Built for the Trail Without Giving Up Luxury

The Galaxy Cruiser 700’s cabin makes the Toyota Land Cruiser look almost old-fashioned. There’s a massive floating infotainment screen front and center, a bonus display for the passenger, and a drive selector that looks like it was swiped from a jet cockpit.

Crucially, Geely didn’t hide all the off-road goodies in endless touchscreen menus. Right below the main screen, you get a row of real buttons for the diff locks and four-wheel-drive system, plus chunky aluminum dials to flick between Eco, Comfort, Smart, and Sport modes on the fly.

The center console packs even more dedicated controls for the trick off-road chassis, so you’re not fumbling around when the trail gets gnarly. The buttons have grippy textures, perfect for when your hands are wet or caked in mud.

Luxury isn’t an afterthought, either. Think diamond-stitched leather, metal speaker grilles with wild geometric patterns, speakers built right into the headrests, a panoramic glass roof, and even a readout for altitude and outside temperature just for the front passenger.

Big Power Meets Bigger Ambitions

Of course, all that flash inside would be pointless without muscle to match. The Galaxy Cruiser 700 packs a 2.0-liter turbo engine and three electric motors for a jaw-dropping 1,113 horsepower. It rides on Geely’s new off-road platform with steer-by-wire and active torque vectoring, so it’s not just for show.

That’s more than triple the power of the US-spec hybrid Land Cruiser, though the two SUVs are clearly playing different games. Toyota’s all about tried-and-true toughness, while Geely is chasing headline-grabbing performance and next-level tech.

Will Americans ever get to try one? That’s still up in the air. Chinese brands keep eyeing the US, but politics and trade hurdles aren’t making it easy. Most automakers seem to think it’s a matter of when, not if, but nobody’s betting on a date just yet.

If that day ever comes, the Galaxy Cruiser 700 could totally rewrite the rulebook for what an off-road SUV cabin should be.

Some of the most common benefits of owning a plug-in hybrid vehicle include the ability to drive short distances without using gasoline, improved fuel efficiency, and a more potent powertrain. Ford, however, recently highlighted another advantage through an internal test suggesting that PHEVs can also serve as a better alternative to conventional gas generators.

The Blue Oval used a Ranger PHEV with 6.9-kW Pro Power Onboard for the test, pitting it against a common 4-kW portable generator. The two were tested under several power demands, from charging tool batteries to boiling a kettle. The testing showed that the midsize pickup was able to produce significantly fewer pollutants, operate at a lower cost, and offer several practical advantages.

The Emissions Gap

Looking at the numbers, Ford said the generator emitted up to 9,000 times more nitrogen oxides, more than 1,200 times more carbon monoxide at very high power output, and between 15 and over 110 times more hydrocarbons than the Ranger PHEV using Pro Power Onboard. Sure, vehicles come with more emissions-fighting technologies, including catalytic converters, but the test still helps highlight how many harmful gases conventional generators can produce.

In terms of operating costs, Pro Power Onboard consumed less fuel than the conventional generator, even across three different states: full battery, empty battery with a cold engine, and empty battery with a warm engine. Once the Ranger PHEV was up to temperature, the automaker said the fuel costs dropped to one-third once the engine only cycled on to maintain battery charge.

The test also showed practical benefits, including eliminating the need to carry a separate generator and fuel can, freeing up cargo space, and providing quieter operation than a conventional generator.

Worth Keeping In Mind

Again, this was an internal test, so it may not be as definitive as one conducted independently. Still, it helps car buyers and owners realize that there is more to PHEVs than just saving fuel when going from point A to point B.

The only catch, at least for American consumers, is that the Ranger PHEV is not available in the U.S. Existing electrified truck options in the U.S., including the hybrid Maverick and F-150, make a PHEV-powered Ranger harder to justify. Pro Power Onboard is still available on other models, and it was one of the signature features of the all-electric F-150 Lightning, helping position the now-discontinued truck as something like a generator on four wheels.

Leaving the U.S Lineup

The iX was given a facelift for the 2026 model year, resulting in a cleaner look and important battery and software updates. However, the 2026 model year will be abbreviated for the electric crossover, as it will be the final one for the U.S. Its eventual successor will be the iX5. which will appear in U.S. showrooms pretty soon.

Sales are a likely factor, but the wave of Neue Klasse models means the iX will have to step aside for the new kids on the block. So for those who have warmed up to its space-age design, now is a good time to get one before it's gone for good.

It'll Still be Around Elsewhere

But while U.S. sales will end by the end of 2026, the iX will still be available in other markets. As reported by Drive, the electric crossover will remain on sale in the rest of the world until 2027. It was even said that it might still be available as late as 2028.

That means the iX and iX5 will coexist. Given that the two are about the same size, it will be interesting to see how BMW will pitch the older model to customers. It'll be less expensive than the electric X5, for sure, but the iX comes with older battery tech, a smaller capacity, and less range. Perhaps BMW will be going on a discount spree to keep customers interested.

The iX's Legacy

People had comments about its styling, and it wasn't a massive volume seller, but the iX opened the door for BMW's electric pathway. The technologies applied to the Neue Klasse were previewed in one way or another in the iX, further refining the recipe to give Munich its best chance to own a good chunk of luxury EV sales.

One could probably say the iX walked so the new iX3 and i3 could fly. In terms of sales, it wasn't a smash hit, but the iX makes up for it in terms of significance, regardless of what one thinks of its looks.

General Motors will have several important releases for the 2027 model year, including next-generation versions of two of its top-selling models, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500. Over at Buick, however, reports suggest the brand will have a quieter year, and that appears to be the case with the 2027 Enclave, whose pricing has surfaced ahead of schedule.

GM Authority reported that the 2027 Buick Enclave will receive a slight price increase, along with a few changes compared to the previous model year. The Enclave can be a go-to choice for buyers looking for a three-row midsize crossover that feels a bit more premium than mainstream rivals like the Ford Explorer, but is not as expensive as true luxury models.

A Slight Bump

The base Enclave Preferred with front-wheel drive will reportedly start at $48,595, including the $1,995 destination freight charge. The all-wheel-drive version is expected to cost $2,000 more at $50,595. Meanwhile, the mid-spec Enclave Sport Touring FWD and AWD are expected to start at $52,095 and $54,095, respectively.

As for the flagship Enclave Avenir, the FWD model will reportedly start at $62,195, while the AWD version will begin at $64,195. The publication also stated that the 2027 Enclave Avenir will receive new interior color options, while all three trim levels will gain additional camera features, including Surround Vision Recorder, Cabin Glance, and Security Recording.

Other than those changes, the 2027 Enclave will largely carry over unchanged. That includes its 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-four engine, which produces 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque. The same engine is also found in its GM siblings, the Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia.

All of the aforementioned 2027 model-year prices for the Enclave reportedly represent a $200 increase over the 2026 version.

Change Is Coming

Considering the current-generation Buick Enclave only arrived for the 2025 model year, a major overhaul is not expected anytime soon. It continues to serve as the brand's flagship model above the Envista, Encore GX, and Envision.

While 2027 is expected to be quiet for Buick, 2028 could be busier, with possible changes including a mid-cycle update for the Enclave, a production shift from China to the U.S. for the Envision, and even a potential return to the sedan market.

Its latest creation is a tribute of the nautical kind; the Phantom Regatta is a single commissioned model that takes inspiration from the English South Coast and its accompanying yachting lifestyle.

Phantom Regatta

According to Rolls-Royce, the specific inspiration for the Phantom Regatta comes from the Solent and the waters stretching all the way to Chichester Harbor, all of which are visible from the automotive mecca that is the Goodwood Estate.

For those who don't know, Rolls-Royce's global HQ and plant are in Goodwood, which makes the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed (FOS) the perfect venue to showcase the Phantom Regatta. Another interesting factoid is that Sir Henry Royce's own residence, called Elmstead, is situated along the coast, just 8 miles away from the brand's current home.

Starting off with the striking exterior, the Phantom is finished in a deep maritime tone called Regatta Blue. To break the monotony and add a welcome touch of contrasting color, the lower part of the car is painted English White. The lower white paint is actually applied by hand and pays tribute to the line where a yacht’s hull meets the water. The rims are a set of 22-inch polished alloys that are a homage to the polished steel winches of a racing yacht.

More Maritime Touches

The exterior influences and colorway also extend inwards into the Phantom's cabin. Rolls-Royce explains it as "deep blue water below, with white canvas above." The front part of the cabin is covered in Navy Blue leather, while the rear looks resplendent in Grace White. The seats, door piping, and steering wheel are a mix of both colors. Some wooden touches like the Piano Milori paired with Open Pore Royal Walnut are found on the rear doors and picnic tables.

As if those weren't enough eye candy, the interior of the Phantom Regatta has a hand-painted artwork called Watercolour. It was done by the in-house artist on an open-pore wooden substrate using specially mixed colors. It wouldn't be complete without any interior lights, and, like most special Phantoms, the Regatta comes with 1,307 hand-placed fiber-optic ‘stars’ and is inspired by the swirling tidal currents around the Isle of Wight.

Rare Gunther Werks Project F-26 Has All the Right Ingredients

Thanks to carbon fiber bodywork, the 4.0-liter air-cooled twin-turbo flat-six only has 2,700 pounds to motivate, and the Rothsport Racing co-developed engine sends all of that power to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual and a limited-slip differential. As any owner of an air-cooled car can attest, the biggest issue with these engines is keeping them from overheating, sometimes doing so unevenly. To address this issue, a race-derived flat fan more than doubles the airflow of a traditional vertical fan and promises even temperatures across all six cylinders.

GW doesn't quote any downforce figures, but the mad bodywork is sure to be doing something, and helping the Continental ExtremeContact Force rubber (295/30R18 in front, 335/30R18 at the back) absorb the load is an all-new double-wishbone front suspension with adaptive JRZ dampers. Importantly, there's motorsport-grade ABS on all four corners, and the wheelbase has been stretched 30 millimeters at the rear to improve weight distribution and center of gravity for the engine. In other words, this won't handle or perform like a traditional air-cooled Porsche. Sadly, very few members of the public will ever find out, as just - you guessed it - 26 units will be made, all with stunningly crafted, bespoke interiors that belie the old-school silhouette of the exterior.

Not expected to take to the hill but showing off in the British summer sun (hopefully) will be the 993-based Gunther Werks Turbo, a twin-turbo, 850-horsepower monster that is also rear-driven through a six-speed manual. This is slightly less likely to be seen on the road than the F-26, with 75 examples being produced. Computer-controlled coilover suspension, beefier roll bars, and Brembo GTR brakes mean this is sure to handle stunningly, too, but it's kind of a moot point now. These cars are so well-made and therefore so valuable that only a tiny percentage will ever attempt to explore their limits. Perhaps that's why brands keep returning to the Goodwood Hillclimb, to show owners just what they're missing.

American performance cars may not carry the same flashy and exotic reputation as the likes of the Ferrari 849 Testarossa, but they’re just as serious when it comes to speed. Chevrolet and Ford have recently gone toe-to-toe at the Nürburgring, posting lap times alongside some of the best from Porsche and Mercedes-Benz.

Now, MotorTrend has brought together some of America’s quickest performance vehicles for a drag race at March Air Reserve Base in California, coinciding with the country’s 250th anniversary year. The lineup included the Czinger 21C V Max, Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X, Ford Mustang GTD, and Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, as well as all-electric contenders such as the Lucid Air Sapphire, TeslaCybertruck Cyberbeast, Tesla Model 3 Performance, and Rivian R1T Quad.

The Ultimate Starting Grid

Both the Czinger 21C V Max and Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X entered the race with the most power at 1,250 hp, followed by the Lucid Air Sapphire at 1,234 hp. The least powerful contender on paper was the Tesla Model 3 Performance at 510 hp, making a Model S Plaid seem like a more fitting entrant. However, the publication noted that the Model S already ended production, leaving the Model 3 and Cybertruck to represent the brand.

EVs have already made a habit of embarrassing combustion cars in drag races. The question was whether that would still happen with America’s heavy hitters lined up together.

Well, spoiler alert: yes. The Lucid Air Sapphire came out on top with a quarter-mile run of 9.14 seconds at 153.2 mph, beating the hybridized Czinger 21C V Max at 9.23 seconds. The hybridized Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X took third at 9.36 seconds, ahead of the Rivian R1T Quad at 10.45 seconds, Ford Mustang GTD at 10.47 seconds, Tesla Cybertruck at 10.97 seconds, Tesla Model 3 Performance at 11.11 seconds, and Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing at 11.66 seconds.

Stretching Their Legs

The top five went for another round, but this time, the runway length was extended to half a mile. That reduced the launch advantage of the EVs and gave higher-top-speed machines more room to stretch. The Czinger 21C V Max took advantage of the longer run and won with a time of 14.40 seconds at 187.9 mph, finishing 0.10 second ahead of the Lucid Air Sapphire. The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X took third at 14.70 seconds, followed by the Ford Mustang GTD at 16.50 seconds and the Rivian R1T Quad at 17.35 seconds.

There are too many variables – such as tire conditions and driver reaction times – to treat this as a definitive ranking of each contender’s overall performance, so it is better viewed as a fun showcase of modern American horsepower during the country’s 250th anniversary year. A Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 would have raised the stakes, but as mentioned, the field was limited to active-production cars.

Some cars have a defining feature that sticks with them throughout their lives. There's the Porsche 911's rear-mounted engine, the Range Rover's split tailgate, the Honda CR-V's vertical tail lights, and so on. It's almost a crime to imagine some of these cars without them, and when it does happen, it feels like a part of the car's personality has been lost.

That brings us neatly to the new-generation BMW X5. Internally known as the G65, the radical redesign has had pretty divided opinions, but one of our bigger worries has been confirmed. In case you missed it, the split tailgate is gone.

Pour One Out for the Split Tailgate

From the very beginning, the X5 always had a split tailgate. Now, we don't know the reason why BMW started with that, but it eventually became one of the SUV's distinct features. Perhaps it was influenced by the time BMW owned Land Rover, but we're glad it reached production.

The G65 X5 now gets a one-piece tailgate, just like any other crossover. It's yet another SUV that had lost the trick tailgate, just like the Lexus LX and the full-size Land Cruiser that Toyota won't sell in the U.S. So, what's BMW's excuse for ditching it? Read on.

First Reason: The Sleeker Design

Speaking to BMWBlog, X5 project head Michael Ahlerssaid that the redesigned model's sleeker roofline was a factor in that. At the same time, BMW wanted the seam that split the tailgate to be eliminated, hence the move.

"[The other bit is that] the new X5 has a bit faster roofline, hence the top end of the tailgate has come down a bit, and therefore the overall height of the tailgate actually has been reduced, but by contrary, we've opened, we've increased the width of the aperture," added Philip Koehn, BMW's senior vice president of Product Line Luxury Class, this time speaking to Motor1.

Second Reason: Claims of Inconvenience

Koehn also effectively said the split tailgate wasn't exactly friendly for persons of 'normal' height, which, of course, varies from country to country. Project head Ahlers echoed Koehn's sentiments, saying the opening at the bottom makes it more difficult to reach the back of the cargo area.

"Any average person with average arm length is actually struggling. If you're perfectly honest, the split tailgate is in itself a cool thing with the low-end opening, and a normal-sized person will really struggle to load, or even more importantly, unload the boot," said Koehn.

Convinced?

Both sound like valid explanations, but we can't help but suspect the true reason for the loss of the X5's split tailgate was cost. After all, it's more complex to produce, as it requires an extra pair of hinges and struts, as well as an additional motor to keep both halves power-operated. But whatever the reason, voices across the web have expressed disappointment that the X5 has lost one of its defining features.

Now, this isn't the first time BMW got rid of a tailgate feature. The 5 Series Touring lost its pop-out glass hatch in its current iteration, something it had for over 30 years. With that in mind, it's starting to look like the future X7 might get a one-piece, too, and the next-gen 3 Series Touring could lose the openable glass hatch.

After Canada moved to open its market to Chinese electric vehicles earlier this year, the U.S. has continued to insist it won't follow suit. But from the perspective of Chinese automakers, it's only a matter of time before they're allowed into the U.S. market, even if the timeline remains uncertain.

Automotive News reported that Chinese automakers could use Canada as a stepping stone before entering the U.S. market. Canada is closer to the U.S. in terms of consumer demand than Mexico, where buyers tend to prioritize affordability. Dealer relationships between Canadian and U.S. groups could also help pave the way for this unprecedented move.

The American Dream Remains

Chery International President Zhang Guibing said, “We definitely have the idea of selling cars in the United States. Everyone definitely has that idea.” Meanwhile, Daniel Ross, director of strategic market insights at Canadian Black Book, argued that entering the Canadian market in limited numbers wouldn't make financial sense for Chinese automakers unless the U.S. market eventually opens up.

For context, Canada is allowing only 49,000 Chinese EVs at a lower tariff rate in the first year, with the quota gradually increasing to 70,000 units over the following five years.

National security is one reason the U.S. remains wary of Chinese automakers, so much so that Polestar, which uses Chinese-linked connected-car technology, will stop selling new vehicles in the U.S. starting with the 2027 model year. Another concern is competitiveness, as lower-cost Chinese vehicles could draw sales away from U.S. legacy automakers.

Given the similarities between the two North American markets, Robert Kerwal, director of automotive solutions at J.D. Power Canada, said, “Canada is the practice run for the U.S.”

Eyes On Canada

It is not hard to imagine some American buyers still preferring homegrown vehicles, such as the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado. But a Cox Automotive study shows that more Gen Z buyers are open to considering Chinese cars because of affordability and technology. Reliability was the most cited reason respondents said they would not consider one.

With all that said, Canada’s response to incoming Chinese EVs could offer a preview of what might happen if those brands eventually enter the U.S. Chery’s Zhang Guibing appears optimistic about that possibility, saying the automaker hopes to enter the U.S. at a “suitable time.” For now, Geely-owned Lotus is set to bring the first Chinese-owned, Chinese-built EV to Canada under the new Canada-China trade agreement with the Eletre, with BYD and Chery expected to follow.

Video footage from South Korea has just served up one of the clearest looks yet at the upcoming SUV, thanks to a fresh spy video. Sure, the prototype is still wrapped up like a Christmas present on the outside, but the real shocker is hiding inside the cabin.

Right across the dashboard sits what looks like a gigantic single screen – think way bigger than the current Sportage’s dual-screen setup. Most of the interior is still under wraps, but that monster display is impossible to miss and screams that Kia is about to take the Sportage’s digital game to a whole new level.

A Big Screen Usually Means Pleos Connect

This isn’t just another nip-and-tuck for the Sportage. It looks like Kia is gearing up for a full-blown overhaul, lining up with Hyundai Motor Group’s next batch of software-packed machines. It’s a big hint that the next Sportage will be running Hyundai Motor Group’s new Pleos Connect operating system.

Pleos Connect is designed to function much like a smartphone interface, featuring a customizable home screen, split-screen multitasking, downloadable applications, and cloud-based connectivity. Hyundai says the software is built on Android Automotive, allowing for faster updates and a more flexible user experience throughout the vehicle's life.

Even with all these giant touchscreens taking over, Hyundai says physical buttons are here to stay. Drivers still want real knobs and switches for stuff like climate and audio, so don’t expect the next Sportage to go full touchscreen – old-school controls are sticking around despite other brands like Mazda thinking otherwise.

The software platform is expected to roll out across Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis models over the next several years, making the Sportage a likely candidate to showcase it.

A Crucial Model Gets Ready for Its Next Chapter

Saying the Sportage is important for Kia is an understatement. It’s one of the brand’s top sellers worldwide, and in the US, it’s currently wearing the sales crown.

In just the first half of 2026, Kia moved 78,912 Sportages in America alone – a comfortable gap versus the Telluride (62,170) and the new K4 (63,026). The hybrid versions are also flying off the lots, quickly becoming a key piece of Kia’s sales puzzle.

The next-gen Sportage should break cover sometime next year, with a US launch likely as a 2028 model since the 2027 Sportage has already been announced. Word from Korea is that Kia might go all-in on hybrids in some markets, but American buyers can probably still count on at least one gas-powered option alongside the electrified lineup.

While some brands have focused their strategies on crossovers and SUVs, Volkswagen has said it is not walking away from sedans and hatchbacks. In the U.S., the sedan option is limited to the Jetta, which comes with a fairly conservative design language and practical features.

That stands in stark contrast to Volkswagen's new sedan in China called the ID. Era 5S, which has a more apparent modern appeal. ID. Era is a model line developed by the SAIC-Volkswagen joint venture, and the ID. Era 5S is its second model following the ID. Era 9X full-size crossover. CarNewsChina reported that the new sedan not only brings modern aesthetics, but also a plug-in hybrid system with a mixed range of up to 2,000 km, or 1,242 miles.

Following The Trend

At the front, the ID. Era 5S gets slim lighting elements and a full-width LED light bar, similar to modern cars like the Chevrolet Equinox EV, or, in VW's own lineup, the ID.4 EV. The new sedan, however, adopts semi-hidden door handles rather than the fully flush-type handles popularized by Tesla, a design China is moving to ban over safety concerns.

Speaking of Tesla, the ID. Era 5S also adopts a minimalist interior design similar to the Model 3 and Model Y. Available in either dark or light color schemes, the cabin is equipped with a floating infotainment touchscreen, a two-spoke double-D-shaped steering wheel, and an ambient lighting strip.

The 1,242-mile mixed range is made possible by a plug-in hybrid system that pairs a 1.5-liter combustion engine with a 174-horsepower electric motor. It also enables an all-electric driving range of 160 km, or about 99 miles. On paper, that beats every PHEV currently available in the U.S., including the Mercedes-Benz GLC, which is rated at 54 miles of electric range. However, it is worth noting that the ID. Era 5S’s EV range is based on China’s CLTC cycle, which is usually more generous than EPA standards in the U.S.

Volkswagen's Two Worlds

While the ID. Era 5S provides a more trend-conscious take on a Volkswagen sedan, the ID. Era lineup is focused on the Chinese market, so the new model won't directly challenge the Jetta anytime soon. Still, it shows what VW is developing in one of the world’s most competitive markets, and if it becomes a hit, it could influence future global models.

Back in the U.S., the latest Jetta update is that Volkswagen is dropping the manual gearbox option from the Jetta GLI after the 2026 model year, leaving the 7-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission as the sole option. The current Jetta generation debuted for the 2019 model year and has since received two major updates.

After years of declining deliveries, Tesla is showing signs of recovery despite a difficult U.S. market following the expiration of the $7,500 federal EV tax credit. In the second quarter of 2026, the EV maker delivered 480,126 vehicles, up 25% year over year and ahead of Wall Street estimates.

That figure also marks Tesla’s best second-quarter performance, topping the previous Q2 record of 466,140 deliveries in 2023. However, the company’s all-time quarterly record still belongs to Q3 2025, when it delivered 497,099 vehicles as buyers rushed to secure an EV before the federal tax credit expired. The latest Q2 2026 result was driven mostly by the Model 3 and Model Y, which accounted for 467,762 deliveries, while other models, including the Cybertruck and the outgoing Model S and Model X, totaled 12,364 units.

Finding Buyers Abroad

According to Automotive News, citing a Deutsche Bank forecast, Europe had the biggest gain, with an estimated 40% jump in deliveries. One factor behind the improvement was rising gas prices, which encouraged buyers to consider fuel-efficient hybrids or EVs that avoid gasoline altogether.

As expected, Tesla’s U.S. deliveries were down in Q2 2026, with Cox Automotive estimating a 20.1% decline to 114,629 vehicles. The drop reflects the loss of the federal EV tax credit, which has weighed on EV momentum in the U.S. as the current administration rolls back EV-focused incentives and regulations. It also reflects broader pressure across the U.S. EV market, though S&P Global Mobility noted that EV registrations in April 2026 posted the smallest year-over-year decline so far this year.

Automotive News also reported that Tesla’s Q2 2026 deliveries rose 66.5% in Canada and 3% in China.

Back In Sync

In addition to the 480,126 deliveries in Q2 2026, Tesla produced 451,758 vehicles, meaning it delivered more vehicles than it built during the quarter. That is worth noting after the automaker produced over 50,000 more EVs than it delivered in Q1 2026, its largest production-to-delivery gap on record.

Moving forward, Tesla's robotaxi business will play a larger role. The company is expected to announce new details on its two-seater Cybercab on July 7, with the vehicle expected to become the brand's highest-volume model.

In California, the Clean Cars 4 All program can cut $12,000 off the asking price on two conditions: you scrap a running internal combustion vehicle, and your earnings are at or below 300% of the federal poverty line. That means an annual household income of $47,880 or less for a single-person household and $99,000 or less for a family of four. If you qualify, the Slate pickup would effectively cost $12,950 before destination, sales tax, and registration. More Affordable Pickups Are Coming

Slate will hope to take advantage of these credits as much as possible and as soon as possible because it won't have the cheap pickup market all to itself much longer. Ford is developing a four-door electric truck (so bigger than the Slate pickup) that is expected to cost under $30,000, and a new company called REO Industries has announced a small, gas-powered pickup called the Runabout that will do 600 miles on a tank and start at just $21,500. Of course, it's wise to temper expectations until these products actually reach customers because we've been wowed by low prices and big promises many times, only for legislative or economic pressures and developmental challenges to force ambitious prices up. For now, it's nice to see that there's a practical pickup currently on sale that most of us can afford, even if it requires state funding to be so.

The incident reportedly took place in late May in Kunming, China, where footage showed four boys, all believed to be under the age of 10, climbing onto the parked Ferrari. The children could be seen sitting on the windscreen, walking across the roof, sliding down the rear glass and even poking the car with long bamboo poles.

According to the owner, the Ferrari suffered scratches to the bonnet, roof, fenders, taillights and windows, while the front bumper was also cracked. Reports by the South China Morning Post state that the owner originally considered taking the car to an official Ferrari dealership, where repairs would have exceeded 100,000 yuan ($14,700). Instead, he opted for an independent workshop that used aftermarket parts, reducing the bill to 29,360 yuan ($4,300).

Parents Refused To Pay

Despite opting for the cheaper repair route, the parents reportedly offered only 5,000 yuan ($736) in compensation and, according to the owner, "never voluntarily brought the children to apologize." That prompted him to file a civil lawsuit seeking the full cost of repairs. South China Morning Post reports that Chinese law leaves civil action as the primary avenue for recovering damages in cases involving children under 14.

One Of Ferrari's Last V8s

The Ferrari 488 GTB remains one of the brand's most desirable modern supercars. Introduced in 2015, the 488 GTB succeeded the 458 Italia and was the second-last mid-engined V8 Ferrari before the company replaced the F8 Tributo with the hybrid-powered 296 GTB. Today, used examples typically change hands for the mid to high $200,000 range. However, the South China Morning Post values this particular 488 GTB at a staggering 3.6 million yuan ($530,000).

The American automotive landscape is undergoing a massive geopolitical shift as Texas rapidly closes in on California's historic retail sales lead. According to a recent report from JD Power, California’s share of U.S. retail light-vehicle sales has dwindled to 11.4 percent. Meanwhile, Texas has climbed steadily to 10.8 percent, leaving less than a single percentage point separating the two giants. This migration of market share signals a dramatic relocation of the nation's automotive center of gravity toward the South.

The Lone Star State has already surpassed California in terms of total consumer spending on new vehicles, driven by a booming population and a strong economy. While the Golden State has historically used its sheer size to dictate national trends, its regulatory grip faces significant resistance. The federal government recently took legal action to block California's aggressive mandate to ban internal combustion vehicles by 2035.

How Truck Culture is Dictating Brand Strategy

Texans have an insatiable appetite for pickup trucks, which accounted for a staggering 25 percent of new-vehicle registrations in April compared to just 13 percent in California. These vehicles are no longer just utilitarian tools, as high-end models have effectively become luxury status symbols routinely commanding transaction prices well north of $100,000. This massive revenue stream has forced global automakers to completely re-evaluate their marketing decisions and manufacturing pipelines.

Automakers are aggressively moving to capitalize on this lucrative demographic by introducing highly diversified truck portfolios. Legacy brands are realizing that traditional buyers want robust capability, forcing major overhauls of established nameplates. This is evident as companies invest heavily in next-generation platforms, ensuring that Ford is fundamentally reimagining its iconic F-150 pickup to match shifting consumer expectations. Meanwhile, midsize options continue to generate massive loyalty, especially in regions where the Toyota Tacoma frequently claims top honors at local truck awards.

The hyper-focus on heavy-duty profits leaves a massive opening for entry-level models targeting younger, budget-conscious buyers. Innovative startups are attempting to bridge the gap between utility and affordability with highly adaptable platforms. For instance, budget-conscious buyers are tracking vehicles like Slate's modular $25,000 electric vehicle that transitions between a truck and an SUV.

Tech vs. Tradition

Despite losing ground in raw sales volume, California remains a critical technological epicenter of car culture and automotive design. The state still influences how future vehicles are styled and programmed through its advanced design studios and Silicon Valley tech hubs. This technological focus is reflected in the local infrastructure, as California recently reached a milestone, with more vehicle charging stations than traditional fueling pumps.

However, California's early momentum in the electric vehicle sector is showing signs of fatigue. First-quarter electric vehicle registrations in the state plunged by 40 percent compared to last year, exposing consumer pushback regarding public infrastructure and vehicle affordability. Texas presents a vastly different prototype of the typical American consumer, one grounded in diversification and traditional powertrains. As economic realities force buyers to adjust their spending habits, the automotive industry must learn to balance California's tech-forward vision with Texas's immense purchasing power.

Ask anyone who loves cars and is passionate about design; Genesis is firing on all cylinders right now. The South Korean luxury automaker recently showed up at Le Mans with its Magma GT Concept, a stunning V8 supercar with an audacious interior. Prior to that, Genesis teased the G90 Wingback Concept, a wagon version of its flagship sedan.

Genesis has show a willingness to break outside the status quo in terms of design powertrains, and vehicle segments. Speaking with Autoblog, the brand's chief operating officer explains how being untethered by years of tradition allows Genesis to be more imaginative.

"As a younger brand, we are untethered from legacy. Recent concepts like the Magma GT and Box Buggy are not simply design studies – they are a sign of what’s possible and where we see the market shifting," says Tedros Mengiste, Genesis North America COO.

"Concept cars are an opportunity to express Genesis' vision and brand trajectory. They give us the freedom to explore new directions in design, performance, and technology while reinforcing the identity we are building. We will continue to introduce concept vehicles as part of our broader brand-building effort. They reflect our commitment to being audacious and forward-thinking, while demonstrating the pace, creativity, and clarity of vision that differentiate Genesis," he adds.

Competing With Sedans

Sedans are not the most popular body style in 2026, but Genesis has not given up on them. "Sedans remain an important part of our business. G70 serves as a strong entry point into Genesis, offering a compelling balance of performance, technology, and everyday driving," Mengiste explains. On the other end of the spectrum, the G90 acts as the flagship model, competing with vehicles like the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, albeit at a lower price point starting at $92,700.

"The award-winning G90 is a clear expression of our Athletic Elegance design language. It combines comfort, advanced technology, and refined craftsmanship in a way that helps define the upper boundary of the brand. In doing so, it creates a halo effect that extends across the entire lineup," he adds.

Though the G90 is not a volume seller for Genesis, moving just 1,656 units last year, the brand has teased multiple concepts based on this platform, showing it is willing to build beautiful cars that increase brand perception.

"The G90 Wingback, G90 Convertible Concept and others are not just explorations of design—they are intentional statements about where the brand can go and how we continue to evolve. EVs, Hybrids, And V8s

Genesis has won over customers though its bold design, opulent interiors, and stellar value. However, it lacks something found in the lineups of its competitors and its sister companies in the Hyundai Motor Group: hybrid powertrains. The Korean luxury brand has only sold ICE and EV vehicles thus far, but that will soon change with the Genesis brand announcing plans to introduce hybrid vehicles starting later this year.

"We do not see the industry evolving in a one-size-fits-all direction. Customers have different expectations, use cases, and priorities, and our responsibility is to meet them where they are with compelling, well-executed products," Mengiste explains. Rather than putting all of its eggs into one basket, Genesis will employ a multi-powertrain strategy with ICE, hybrid, and EVs. This may even involve bringing back a V8 engine in the Magma GT.

More Models Driving Sales

Genesis had its based sales year in 2025, selling 82,331 vehicles in the United States, led by the GV70 with just over 35,000 units. The GV80 (including the GV80 Coupe) was a close second with just under 24,000 units, showing the importance of SUVs, but the G70 came in third with 11,000 to remind sales executives that sedans aren't completely dead yet.

"Our focus is clear: to continue growing Genesis as a global brand while strengthening awareness and consideration among customers who may not have considered us in the past," Mengiste says. "For us, growth is not defined by volume alone. It's about expanding the brand with intention—through new products, advanced technologies, and differentiated customer experiences."

The Korean automaker will introduce 22 new or "significantly updated" models by 2030, including the GV60 Magma, the company's first high-performance model. Adding hybrids should help Genesis push past the 100,000 unit mark, competing with the likes of Lexus, a brand that sold over 370,000 vehicles in 2025. That is a high bar, but perhaps Genesis could start by surpassing Acura, which sold 133,433 units in 2025.

America's 250th birthday is an important one, a nation deeply ingrained in the culture of not just itself, but of the world as a whole. Ford can claim the same, having been part of the automotive story for more than a century.

Ford's role isn't limited to being one of the longest-standing American brands; its contribution to the innovation of car production and the mass-market model is undeniable. In celebration of both America's and Ford's shared journey, the latter is taking over Union Station.

Driving America Forward

Ford has just announced that starting July 1 through the 14th, a special interactive display will be held at what they call the "front door" of Washington, D.C. Union Station. The automaker calls it Driving America Forward: A Ford Experience, which will be free, open to the public, and open daily.

The exhibit itself will house some of the most iconic cars throughout Ford's century-long automotive journey. One of the cars traces the very beginning: in 1927, after almost 20 years of being the first mass-produced car, the fifteen millionth (and last) Model T rolled off the production line.

Next is the 1964 World's Fair Mustang, a tourist attraction ride (designed by Disney) that would take guests on a 12-minute journey through mankind's advancements. The ride was active for just 2 years, with most of the Mustangs sold off afterward; this car is one of four known to still exist.

Jay Leno also contributed to the festivities by loaning his 1934 Ford Pickup truck for display, which he considers one of his favorite cars in his vast collection. Alongside the truck is a Ford Model A, which replaced the Model T and was designed by Edsel Ford; it quickly became a worthy successor, ushering in a new era for the brand. The 1956 Ford Thunderbird is one of the most recognizable cars ever made; it was a luxury sports car that looked so good it was the hero car in the film American Graffiti. Rounding out the list are the 1951 Ford 8N Tractor, 1954 Ford F-100, 1966 Stroppe Bronco, Baja winner, and the Ford GP Military Jeep.

The Story Continues

Apart from certain automotive icons, Ford has also had a strong history with racing; in fact, it has notched 125 years of racing heritage. Currently, Ford is present in multiple top-tier motorsports disciplines, but its latest venture is a return to Formula One with the Redbull team.

There are also other displays across the station that showcase the different innovation milestones courtesy of the Ford Motor Company. These include different artifacts still preserved from Ford's history.

Ford's Position

Farley’s core argument is rooted in a simple, economic premise: if you build your products on American soil, you should reap the benefits of the American market. For years, major automakers have capitalized on lower labor costs by shifting production to countries like Japan, South Korea, and Mexico. Ford, however, maintains a massive domestic footprint and proudly employs the highest number of United Auto Workers in the industry.

Recent industry data highlights a stark contrast in how Detroit's legacy brands and global giants structure their supply chains. Last year, Ford assembled over two million vehicles in the U.S., leading the industry in domestic production. Of its 2.2 million domestic sales, only seventeen percent, or 378,000 vehicles, were imported. Crucially, Ford also acted as a major global supplier, exporting 311,000 U.S.-built units to over sixty international markets.

What About Competitors?

The competition tells an entirely different story. General Motors imported 1.17 million vehicles last year, accounting for a massive forty-one percent of its U.S. sales. Toyota sits at the very top of the import list, bringing in 1.19 million vehicles, which amounts to 47 percent of its domestic sales. Farley argues that this current framework creates an uneven playing field. In a recent interview with CNBC, he stated that any new agreement must make it easier to compete with makers who heavily import from overseas.

American Support

For the American consumer, this trade dispute hits incredibly close to home. Buying "American-made" has long been a badge of pride, yet the reality behind that badge is growing complicated. While rivals like Toyota and GM do build popular models locally, their heavy reliance on foreign assembly lines for nearly half their lineups gives them a distinct cost advantage over domestic-focused producers.

As the government pushes for annual reviews of the trilateral trade pact rather than a blanket renewal, Ford is aggressively leveraging its domestic data to lobby for structural changes. Whether regulators will ultimately introduce penalties for importers remains to be seen, but Ford is betting big that its steadfast loyalty to American manufacturing will finally pay off at the negotiating table to level the playing field.
