GLOBE & SMART Begins Compliance to One-Year PREPAID LOAD VALIDITY

Good news for all of us prepaid mobile subscribers!

The country's two telco operators finally start compliance with the NTC memo to extend the validity of prepaid loads to one year.

Thankfully, Globe and Smart will start adhering with NTC’s Memorandum Circular No. 03-07-2009 Guidelines on Prepaid Loads.

As per DICT's official announcement:

[UPDATED, 5 January, 2018]

In order to avoid any public inconvenience, the DICT has given telcos a 6-month grace period to adjust their systems to the one-year extension of prepaid load validity. However, loads of P300 and higher made after January 5 will be already valid for one year.

This grace period, starting January 5, was allowed to prevent telcos’ systems from crashing if changes are made abruptly, which may cause serious damage to the industry and disturb the consuming public.

NTC was instructed to closely monitor and address all complaints of prepaid loads being eaten up before the present expiration periods lapsed during the adjustment period.

Initially, only prepaid loads 300 pesos and up will be valid for a year. After 6 months, all prepaid loads regardless of amount will be valid for the whole year.

Took long than necessary but, a victory nonetheless, for all of us prepaid mobile subscribers.

I am now officially into BITCOIN. Thanks to my best buddy, Ranel, via Coinsph.

For my Globe prepaid, I used to avail of GoUNLI50. But recently, I learned of a better promo to avail - GOCOMBOIJHD95

GOCOMBOIJHD95 allows me to enjoy unlimited calls to Globe/TM subscribers, unlimited text to ALL NETWORKS for a week. Plus, it offers 100 MB surfing & free Facebook. All these for only Php 95.00.

Whereas, GoUNLI50, only allows 3 days of unlimited calls to Globe/TM subscribers, unlimited text to ALL NETWORKS.

LoadXtreme or LX Corporation now finally offers direct load wallet replenishment via banks.

Meaning, the amount you paid will directly be credited to your retailer/dealer account. Finally, after 8 years of being a Loadxtreme retailer/dealer. Hahaha!!! Sorry, can't help being critical. As they say, it is better late than never.

But wait....

There's one caveat.

Doing this kind of hassle-free load wallet replenishment costs you another Php 10.00.

We might as well replenishment more than 500 pesos load wallet. So that we can save ourselves the trouble of going to the bank on more occasion and the corresponding fee every time we do so.

Gladly, I did check out the LoadXtreme website today.

There was a pop-up notification box informing me of LoadXtreme's new information on load wallet replenishment via banks.

Hopefully, all loadxtreme dealers & retailers get to be informed of this:

The most significant change is the account name. From Vmobile Technologies Inc. to LX Corporation. The change in company name probably required new bank accounts.

I hope that LX Corporation conduct SMS notification to all members for vital info such as this one.

A couple of days ago, I received an SMS Ad from Smart regarding Big Bytes 70.

This is another mobile data option for me since I am using a dual-sim prepaid smartphone. Plus, the pricing and the duration of service is exactly the same as Gotscombodd70.

Smart's Big Byte 70, as the SMS says, offers subscribers to enjoy 1000 Mb of mobile data and 1000 texts/SMS to Smart, TnT & Sun for the whole week (7 days) for only 70 php. To avail, subscribers need only to text BIG70 to 9999.

A quick check into smart's website today, provides no denomination for Big Bytes 70. Click on the image below to see all Big Bytes packages being offered by Smart.

I am not sure if Smart is doing personalized ads to select subscribers but that might be the case for such.

Interestingly, this appears more advantageous for me since I have a lot of contacts at work using Sun Cellular. As things now stand, I am only using Gotscombodd70 for my mobile data needs and using my sun sim for my calls and/or texts needs. However, Smart signal in the vicinity of my work is quite poor, giving second-thoughts to try it now for myself.

But I guess, it's not bad to have options especially if I go to an area where Globe signal turns out to be unreliable.

Ouch! My Nokia 220 Easily Gets Filled with Messages :(

It seems that the honeymoon with my Nokia 220 is over as I am starting to notice its flaws.

As my secondary phone unit to be used primarily for my line of work, it turned out that it has limited capacity to store messages.

In my line of work, I am in constant coordination with colleagues (superiors & subordinates alike), consultants, sub-contractors, suppliers and even owner representatives. Some vital correspondences via SMS (or Text messaging) are quite important in resolving issues, disputes and/or conflicts. Not to mention, that those correspondences may serve me well while I'm out of the office.

I am very much dismayed that my back-up phone is only able to store few messages. By my count, its message storage today contained only 26 conversation threads, with only 183 different messages in total including those that I composed but unsent to respective numbers due to mobile coverage issues.

Checking back Nokia 220 dual sim SPECS via the official Nokia webpage nor via gsmarena, message capacity isn't indicated

I may have to buy another back-up phone, most probably by December, when I could have extra cash. One nephew who is about to graduate will most likely be the heir to my Nokia 220 dual sim.

For those considering this Nokia cellphone, you may want to check your messaging needs first before purchasing one.

I hope that Globe will extend all promos affected by their activity. I'm sure Globe prepaid subscriber's rightfully deserve the extension.

Got this SMS notification around 3 pm Today from Globe regarding their System activity this weekend - October 3-4, 2015.

Here's the SMS notification from Globe:

Hi! We're having a system activity from 10/3, 10PM to 10/4, 3PM. Please reload & register to promos early because during this time, promo & roaming registration, outgoing texts (w/active roaming only), balance inquiry, reloading, Share-A-Load, ringback & downloads will be unavailable. Mobile data will also be unavailable unless you've registered to a surf promo beforehand. Your Globe experience is important to us, & we'll work to complete our activity as quickly as possible.

The sender displayed is GLOBE, so I think that the message is authentic.

The gist of the advisory is basically replenish your load credits to avoid inconvenience.

I, myself, has been availing Globe's mobile data packages thru their GoSakto facility. I am enrolled until Monday so I am not worried.

Nokia 220 Dual SIM - My Secondary/Back-up Phone

For quite sometime, I am on the look-out for a secondary mobile phone or a back-up cellphone. A basic phone as my communication tool at work. I have settled with a Nokia 220 Dual SIM.

Since I bought my ASUS Zenfone 5 last April 2015, I have misgivings about continuing this blog. Obviously, cellphones have been overtaken by smartphones. But as I found out smartphones have limitations.

With a lot of applications running, my smartphone tend to lose its battery charge quite easily. I often find myself unable to make an important call. Worse is when my smartphone dies while my boss is calling. Tsk! Tsk! A secondary phone is indeed very, very necessary in my case.

Nokia is the only brand looked for. In my search, I've noticed that there are now few stores that sell Nokia and they even offer fewer models Nokia models.

I settled for a brand new black Nokia 220 Dual SIM because it addresses all my needs for a back-up phone. Foremost of which is battery life. Nokia's reputation for talk-time & stand-by-time is legendary. For this unit, talk time is 15 Hours while stand-by time is 576 Hours.

My next consideration is the added functionalities that Nokia 220 offered - dual sim, basic camera, basic internet capability and even a flash light (called torch).

Lastly, I am banking on Nokia's history of durability for its line of cellphones - think circa Nokia 3210.

There are many advantages of having a secondary or back-up phone unit. It's up to you to chose the one best suited for your needs.

For me, its Nokia 220 Dual SIM.

My Very First SIM Card - A Smart Buddy SIM

I was rummaging through old things when I found my very first SIM Card.

Yes, it was way back the GSM era circa 2000.

That Smart Buddy Pre-paid Super Sim 3 was inside a gray Nokia 3210 which was a bit pricey then, almost 8K.

Sorry for reminiscing more. 300 was the smallest denomination for Prepaid cellphone cards of Smart then.

I got to use that sim card up to February 2004.

That Nokia 3210 survived countless of falls but was forever lost when it accidentally came out of my slacks' pocket on my way to a new job.

I miss the old days.

As I consider myself sleep-deprived these past months or so, this article I came across with today is quite timely.

I am so guilty! And the explanation seems very sensible to me.

I am literally sleeping with my smartphone beside me. While my main justification is its alarm function to wake up the following day, I agree that my smartphone simultaneously serves as a distraction with my sleeping early.

I can't help checking messages or playing games before dozing off.

I need to have to put my smarthphone farther away when I sleep tonight.

Yugatech reported over the weekend that Globe Prepaid LTE SIMs are now available in all Globe Stores nationwide.

But what interested me is that Globe offers free upgrade of my non-LTE prepaid SIM into the new LTE SIM.

Like any of my fellow Globe non-LTE prepaid subscribers, I dream of accessing the internet thru my mobile phone in blazing speeds. After all, that is the promise of Long Term Evolution (LTE).

While mobile internet speed I experienced, offered by telecom companies in the Philippines in general, remains inconsistent and poor, I guess there's nothing wrong in making our handsets LTE ready.

Thankfully, we can retain our current mobile numbers and get a free upgrade.

Initially, I sent a direct message to Globe in Facebook to inquire about the upgrade.

While waiting for Globe's response, I decided to research more and found the Globe's FAQ page on Prepaid LTE SIM.

Furthermore, I also learned from there that the LTE SIM will work in all cellphones or handsets type. However, fast browsing in LTE speeds may only be enjoyed if you are using a LTE-capable device and if you are within an area with LTE coverage.

Here's the exact SMS message that I received just moments ago:

I am a frequent availer of Smart's UNLISURF50. So this UNLI20 would mean 30 pesos savings for me.

It's just too bad that my unlimited surfing subcription will only expire around 4 pm in the afternoon today.

But I definitely would like to try this out the soonest.

Are Price Mark Ups for Prepaid Load Fair? Globe aims to find out via Autoloadmax Survey

What's up with Globe's AutoloadMAX survey after you buy prepaid load credits?

I dispensed 30 prepaid credits to my Globe SIM, just to keep it active.

After receiving the usual text notification of the load received:

P30.00 prepaid credits was loaded to ur mobile# 09xxxxxxxxx Trace No:861536496 10/31/2014 01:37PM

I received a subsequent test message:

Nabili mo ba ang load sa tama at walang patong na presyo? Yes o No? I-forward ang sagot sa 26621 for free.Ex:YES to 26621.Salamat

Loosely translated:

Have you bought your LOAD in the right and no mark up price? Yes or No? Forward your reply to 26621 for free.Ex:YES to 26621.Thanks

Of course, I replied YES.

Basically, thanking me for participating in the survey.

The autoloadmax survey made me curious of what is the prevailing mark up for prepaid loads. Since, I dispense load via loadxtreme's online facility, I charge the same as the prepaid load credit. Meaning, 30 pesos for 30 pesos of Autoloadmax.

Sun Cellular FREE INTERNET Automatically Enjoyed by Prepaid Subscribers

Sun Cellular Prepaid subscribers automatically get to enjoy FREE INTERNET as long as they have prepaid load credits in their mobile phones or smartphones.

For the past 5 days, I received the following text notification from Sun Cellular:

As of 12MN, may 30MB FREE INTERNET plus UNLI FB ka ulit for 1 more day! Tuloy-tuloy ang saya basta may active Sun Prepaid load ka! To stop, text OFF to 9999

There are two good points about this. First, sun cellular subscribers need not register everyday. Second, there is an unsubscription clause in case subscribers would want to stop the free internet service and avail of other service/promo.

However, there is again that contentious issue on speed. My experience in accessing Facebook is a drag and that is putting it mildly. Anyway, I hope that in my case, it is only due to signal availability in my area.

And that in other areas, subscribers do enjoy the unlimited Facebook.

Error 628 & Disconnection Problem on My Smart Bro Plugit

Does Smart's FREE MOBILE Internet has already reared its ugly head?

So, it seems with my Smart Bro Plugit.

In the past two days, I encountered two problems with my plugit which I seldom experienced before.

Since the launch of such promo, I have encountered Error 628 on my Smart Bro plugit while trying to connect to the internet. I have registered to the UNLISURF 85 promo, by the way.

See this screenshot below:

Error 628: The connection was terminated by the remote
computer before it could be completed.

I had spent majority of my Sunday morning clicking redial but was unable to connect.

Today, I was able to connect but I get disconnected every so often and need to re-Connect just to make the most out of what's left with my unlisurf subscription.

I can't think of other reason for this problems but the traffic and/or congestion brought about by Smart's free mobile internet.

I hope that Smart really has the infrastructure to handle majority of its 72 million subscribers availing of the promo.

My Free Mobile Internet Experience via Sun Cellular Prepaid

Following Smart's announcement on its FREE MOBILE INTERNET offering to Smart, Talk 'N Text and Sun Prepaid cellphone and smartphone subscribers, I immediately used my Smart Bro Plugit. Unfortunately, may attempt proved unsuccessful at the time.

Yesterday, I decided to try the free mobile internet offering via Sun Cellular. And here's my experience...

Around 9 am yesterday, I decided to send FREE to 999 using my Sun Cellular sim. I was surprised to receive the following text confirmation:

Yehey! May FREE INTERNET ka na for the next 24 hours! Text FREE to 9999 daily para tuloy tuloy ang saya! Promo until 11/30/14. Per DTI-FTEB Permit No 3334 series of 2014. For terms and conditions, go to http://suncellular.com.ph

Through this free internet promo, I was able to update the Nokia Express browser on my Nokia Asha 501 smartphone. There was a bit lag but negligible for me. Then, I was able to access Facebook. Because I was glad to confirm this promo, I even put it on my account's status.

This morning, I even received a text reminder that my subscription for this free service is about to expire.

On the other hand, I was trying to connect to the internet via my Smart Bro plugit in my Laptop. But I wasn't able to connect. And my UNLI 50 subscription has expired.

It is very easy for me to think that this FREE internet offering by Smart will have an effect in their network.
