This year's festival will include several Market Screenings, adding 65 films to the 55 films that are official selections in the festival's competition. The festival also announced another five short films as part of their "Easter Eggs" dispersed throughout the festival which runs November 10-14 in Southern Utah.

Festival director Matt Marxteyn said "The Easter Eggs are similar to those on a DVD — they are surprise little short films that will screen unannounced before various film programs. The Market Screenings are either films that didn't enter the competition, films that already made it through the festival circuit, or films our programmers felt were worth watching for the industry, filmmakers and other patrons of the arts that visit the festival."

Of the 65 films selected for the Red Rock Film Market Screenings, films from 13 countries were granted screenings that were produced in 21 countries with the USA and Canada leading the pack. Films from Utah that were accepted into Red Rock's curated market screenings include Michael Shumway's "The Edison Effect", Jonathan Martin's "An Evening With My Comatose Mother", Michael Zaccaria's "The Pail", and Clayton Olsen's "Polly" — all dramatic shorts, the most popular type of submission at the festival this year.

The 5th Annual Red Rock Film Festival opens this year in Springdale on November 10, with the remainder of the films scheduled in St. George November 11 and 12, and ending in Ivins on November 13 and 14. The Festival has already begun selling tickets online at http://redrockfilmfestival.eventbrite.com. Patrons interested in seeing the Market Screenings will need to register on the festival's website. This year's festival will have nine categories of competition, including Documentary and Fiction categories of Feature, Featurette, and Short plus Animated Short, Experimental Short, and Short-Short. The Special Screenings and Market Screenings will be announced on a later date. The 2011 Red Rock Film Festival runs November 10-14 in Springdale, Ivins and St. George, Utah.

The most popular categories included Documentary Feature and Fiction Short. Festival Director Matt Marxteyn said, "We received so many doc features and fiction shorts and several still coming in, we could have run a festival on those two categories alone. When the 19 on our preview committee watch film, they're not just looking for what they like – it's all about where to place a film. Each programmer spends weeks and some even months comparing and contrasting the films on how the film can be placed, asking is this good for a community event, good for television, good for the theaters or good for a gala premiere? It is this passion for detail that reserves only the best films in the festival with a keen eye open for placement of the other films."

Before his film was even selected, Franco Sacchi, director of "A Tiny Spark," was so impressed by Red Rock's democratic process, he wrote "I want to thank you for the outstanding organization and feedback you provide about your selection process. I am simply blown away. Your model is truly the future and you should become an example for all the other film festival out there."

Screenwriter and former Southern Utah resident Robert Herrick, wrote "Red Rock Film Festival made sure that our religious-themed film wasn't overlooked. Everyone involved at RRFF was wonderful, they kept us informed of where our film was in the selection process and gave it every chance to succeed."

Of the 55 films selected for the Red Rock competition alone, 11 countries are in the competition and they were produced in 33 countries with the USA and Spain leading the pack. Spanish speaking fans of the Red Rock Film Festival have been growing ever since the festival had the US premiere of "Sultans of the South," and today outnumber the english speaking fans. Nine of the officially selected films are first time filmmakers, and five genre-bending films are in multiple categories. Not on the list this year are Utah filmmakers, which typically do quite well. Marxteyn said "This was a surprise, since the Utah films have had a high acceptance rate, 33% last year. Each year is different – you never know what you are going to get. The good news is that there was not one film deemed unacceptable out of all the Utah films submitted this year."

The Red Rock Film Festival has received great support this year from its sponsors the St. George Convention and Tourism Office, Canon, Xerox, Optoma, The Hollywood Edge Sound FX, Cherry Creek Radio and several hotels such as Lexington Hotel and The Inn at Entrada, and several other partners. Support that helps take out the huge expenses associated with the annual festival. The festival is needing much more support. Marxteyn says, "I absolutely love how our sponsors have come in, especially our hotel partners that all pitch in and help. Even so, it's funny how people have this common misconception that film festivals make money. When you work the entire year on one event and show as many premieres and quality films as we do, our ticket sales pay for only a portion of our shipping costs – that's if the shows sell out."

The festival is continuing taking sponsors by sending requests to redinfo@redrockfilmfestival.com, and supporters of the arts can help the festival by becoming a RRFF member with several benefits at: http://redrockfilmfestival-memberships.eventbrite.com.
