Rickmansworth's Community Jubilee Picnic will go ahead tomorrow, but will take place in the Church Centre at St Mary's and in the Church itself. So don't be put off!! Bring your picnic and something to sit on... and don't forget the fancy dress!! Punch & Judy, Magician, face painting for the children. Phoenix Morris, Phoenix Jazz, Folk singing and dancing... will all be there.

Almost there on the pots and baskets, Red White and.... green... Ageratum have not bloomed in time, so a last minute dash to the nursery to purchase some blue lobelia today - will put them in tomorrow. Photos to follow!!

Local Sea Cadets Lead Queens Barge In Jubilee Pageant

Sea Cadets from Rickmansworth & Watford will be taking the lead when they join other Sea Cadets from across the UK to lead HM The Queen’s Jubilee barge, Gloriana, down the Thames on June 3 in celebration of her Diamond Jubilee.

Cadets are training hard in preparation as they will be the focal point in a huge procession of over 1,000 vessels as they crowd the Thames to honour the Queen’s jubilee as part of a huge Thames pageant, the likes of which hasn’t been seen since 1717.

Cadets aged 12-18 are part of a 55 strong team of Sea Cadet boats from all over the country, each one carrying a flag to represent a commonwealth nation, sailing in a diamond formation on an 11km route from Wandsworth to Greenwich.

The boats, Trinity 500’s, were specially designed for Sea Cadets last year by Olympic dinghy medallist Jo Richards and will be fitted with an outboard motor supplied by Suzuki GB.

Captain Sea Cadets, Capt Mark Windsor RN said, “This is a great honour for us, not least as HM The Queen is our Patron, but it also offers our cadets an incredible opportunity to take part in a once in a lifetime event, to be part of history” .’

Commanding Officer Graeme Cawsey said “This is so very exciting and a once in a lifetime opportunity for our young Cadets, a truly memorable experience I’m sure they’ll never forget. This is what being a Sea Cadet is all about.”

Sea Cadets is the UK’s largest maritime youth charity, working across the country in 400 towns with 14000 Sea Cadets aged between 10 and18. Cadets learn vital life skills like leadership and team working via nautical adventure activities, and can earn extra qualifications which help boost confidence and give young people a head start in life. Rickmansworth Festival This Weekend - Battle of Britain Memorial Flight

I have been reliably informed that we have the full monty this weekend! Hopefully in the formation above, they may have split by then - but fingers crossed!

The Lancaster bomber and 4 X Spitfires will flypast the Rickmansworth festival a change in formation! It will be a single low level Flypast owing to air restrictions. This is a unique combination and we are very honoured to have them. This limitations is due to flight restrictions due to the complete flypast which will consist of 85 aircraft.
We have been advised that we will be able to see the other aircraft but they will not be directly over the stage. They will also be higher but should consist of 9 x Typhons at 10:30 followed by the BBMF at 12:30, The Red Arrows, Hawk Aircraft in E 11 R formation and Tucanos in a 60 formation, as well as many other aircraft. These will be dispersing and going in different directions from around Rickmansworth due to different speeds.
As well as this the Festival will have steam boat President visiting which is on its way to the Thames Diamond Jubilee pagent.
Just a reminder that the Festival is organised by Rickmansworth Waterways Trust and they are this year, celebrating 20 years of the festival.

Rickmansworth's Jubilee Picnic - 5th June

Final preparations are being put together for the Community Picnic being hosted by St Mary's Church in Rickmansworth. All are welcome.... just bring something to sit on and a picnic, and the rest will be provided! Entertainment for children in the form of Punch & Judy, a magician, face painting and lots of makey-doey activities. Pheonix Morris, folk singing, Collective Dance and the Pheonix Jazz Band will be performing. There will be nostalgic films being shown of Rickmansworth too, as well as a fancy dress competition of fashion through the decades from 1950 - prizes for both adults and children! WRVS will be serving teas and ice creams.

Soooooo........... get your glad rags on and come and join in the fun!

Wet weather provisions too - so don't worry if it rains - the picnic fun will still go ahead.

When: Tuesday 5th June, 12 till 4pm

Oh, and if you want to join in the Bunting competition - there will be prizes for the longest and the most creative bunting. Entries to St Mary's Church Centre, Church St, Rickmansworth 9-9.30am on Tuesday 5th June. For inspiration on bunting see the blog archive.
