Fitness Series Episode 1 - 6 Simple Mobility Exercises to Improve Flexibility and Reduce the Risk of Injury

Don’t underestimate the power of mobility exercises! These simple movements can improve flexibility, increase range of motion, and reduce the risk of injury. Hence we are kick starting our series with these first. You can do a minimum of 5 reps and a maximum of 10 reps of each exercise. Check them out in the video where we show you 6 Simple Mobility Exercises to start your workouts with.

Importance of mobility

1. Upper body mobility - helps avoid injuries while workout and improves blood flow especially around shoulders.
2. Lower body mobility - helps to stretch our hamstrings and inner thigh. Also helps to avoid lower back pain and injury.
3. Mobility exercises can also help to improve posture and reduce muscle imbalances, which can lead to better overall physical performance.

This is the perfect warm-up before you start any workout.

For the upper body mobility exercises you can use a resistance band (like me) or a PVC pipe (like Milind).

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2023! Our family is so grateful for all the love and support we received in the past year and for the memories we have made. Here's to a new year filled with love, laughter, new beginnings, endless possibilities, adventure, growth, self-discovery and all the things we've been dreaming of.

Along with my new year wishes, I also wanted to share something that has been running through my mind which I plan to do for sure and also want to share with you guys.

As the new year 2023 starts, it's important to start it on a positive note. Not only does this set the tone for the rest of the year, but it can also have a lasting impact on our overall well-being and happiness. Here are a few ways to start the new year off right:

Practice gratitude: Taking a few moments each day to reflect on the things you're grateful for can help put things into perspective and start the year off on a more positive note. Gratitude has been shown to have numerous benefits, including increased happiness, improved physical health, and stronger relationships.
Set achievable goals: It's important to set goals that are meaningful and important to you, but it's also important to make sure they're achievable. Setting unrealistic goals can lead to frustration and disappointment, so it's important to find a balance.

Know Your Skin with Galderma!

Everyone's skin is different and so each one of us needs to take care of it in our own unique way. However, most of us don't realize this and so we follow set routines and use products just by their name and usage which may not suit us. I am glad that companies like Galderma who have successful brands like Cetaphil and Biluma, have launched a new initiative and made this month the Skin Awareness Month. With this they aim to educate consumers to Know their Skin, and what one needs to keep it healthy and beautiful. Basically one needs to know the importance of the right selection of products depending on our skin type.

I was glad to be a part of their event in Mumbai recently to know more about the initiative, where we had an informative panel discussion between dermatologists and beauty and travel influencers. My takeaways from the panel discussion that I would like to share with you were:

1. One should always know their skin type.

2. Always consult a dermatologist to know the right care to take and for that the right products to use for your skin type.

3. Skin has its own rhythm – Skin circadian rhythm for a healthy and glowing skin. The skin functions differ from the daytime and the time. During the day, the skin functions to brighten and protect the skin and during the night it functions to rejuvenate and nourish the skin. An imbalance in this day & night skin cycle due to internal & external factors leads to skin issues. However, do not treat your skin issues on your own. It could become worse if you take the wrong course of action. Always head to a dermatologist.

4. Age is a huge factor to be considered in your skincare routine as the condition of your skin changes with time.

5. Sunscreen come what may is one thing that we must not miss ever in our day skincare routine.

I also got to check out Cetaphil and Biluma products and saw that they had a such a relevant offering for my skin type and issues.

Cetaphil

A Big Thank you on Ri(t)ch Styles 12th Blogversary!

I completed 12 beautiful years of my blogging journey yesterday. From 2009 to 2021 - it's been quite a ride! A journey which I started alone, but along the way these 2 joined me at different points, became a vital part of it all and have made it even more memorable. Aryaa definitely is the best business partner ever, and you will have to agree that the cutest business partner one can have. Prateek's support has undeniably a huge huge role to play.

Also behind the scenes I’ve always had my parents day and night taking charge of so many things for me, so that I could make this work, and whom I can't thank enough personally and professionally. My brother despite being in a different time zone has been there whenever I have needed him and hopefully will lead my international business arm one day. Also my family, my friends, my team (all who have been my side anytime in this journey), and of course you guys too have kept me going. So a big thank you to everyone for making these 12 years some of the best of my life! I am super overwhelmed and can’t believe that I am celebrating my 12th Blogversary today! 🙏🏼

It's not been easy, but its definitely been worth it. So many wins, so many learnings and so many happy and sweet memories, trust me, I wouldn't change one bit of anything. I'm thankful, I'm grateful and I feel immensely blessed. My belief in God and my guardian angles has definitely kept me sane through it all.

On this note, we start a new year in the life of Ri(t)ch Styles and I am sure it will only get better and better with the support of wonderful readers like you. Cheers to wonderful 12 years and cheers to many more to come! 🥂

Making Learning Fun with Disney.BYJU'S Early Learn App

The last month has been one of the best months of my lockdown life. You ask why? Well because now, home schooling is a breeze for me, thanks to Disney.BYJU'S Early Learn app! I am so glad to have FINALLY found a solution that is helping me home school Aryaa in the best way possible and is also something that Aryaa is absolutely loving. So much so that her entire screen time is all about productive learning.

Yes, you read it right - Learning! But the fact is that she is having so much fun, and along with her, so am I. What I have for Aryaa is Disney.BYJU'S Early Learn app for Class 1 which brings together the first-of-its-kind integration of personalised, interactive programs, and fun learning. It enables her to grasp fundamental concepts from lessons that feature her favourite Disney characters from Beauty and the Beast, Frozen, Cars, Toy Story, and more, with ease. Her learning journey is now a productive blend of screen time and hands-on learning as she plays as well as learns, from the app. Over 1000s of animated videos, games, stories, and quizzes not only keep her engrossed but also ensures a comprehensive learning journey. And trust me, we are loving it!

DISNEY.BYJU’S EARLY LEARN GRADE 1 KIT

The Disney.BYJU'S Early Learn kit includes a tablet, a board game, and the Osmo Kit. The Osmo Kit consists of a Reflector, a Base, a Starter Kit and Wizpens. Just mount the tab on the base and fit the reflector over the camera, and your kid is all set to start solving the digitally enabled worksheets.

The kit comes with a super cool, fun pop-up castle board game called BYJU'S Castle Quest. It contains Frozen-themed totems, a dice, and puzzle cards that need to be solved every time you land on a purple block on the castle path. A right answer means three steps forward and the wrong, two steps back. And to spark up the little creative minds and make the learning journey more colourful, there is a booklet of Disney character stickers for adorning their favourite accessories.

It also includes English and Maths workbooks that have digitally-enabled interactive worksheets. Also, it consists of a Starter Kit that Aryaa first practiced with, before starting with the workbooks. Additionally, it contains a set of 3 BYJU Wiz Pens, as it is a requisite for solving the worksheets and workbooks.

After we received the entire kit, my kid was assigned a personal mentor to help her understand how Disney.BYJU'S Early Learn program works in its entirety. Right from understanding the App, to its sections, and how as parents we can evaluate our child's progress and development with the app. Having a dedicated mentor for your child is the world's best feature, keeps my worries at bay! Now I am in constant touch with the mentor to discuss Aryaa's progress along with a Monthly Learning Plan at the start of every month with a day-wise study schedule to ensure that the kids do not overburden and tire themselves. I won't deny the fact that sometimes, Aryaa gets so excited that she is on the app for hours, but on a majority of the days, she follows the plan strictly.

Here is a page of this month's plan for you to understand what it looks like and what the schedule of the first 3 days of the week are. The plan is a healthy mix of Maths and English and is extremely detailed. Saturday and Sunday are days off since, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy!”

With all these in place, while Aryaa is still learning the basic concepts of Maths and English, it is a delight to see that with BYJU’S, she does it in a fun and interactive way. I can see her becoming more curious and imaginative. The personalised learning pattern is building Aryaa’s conceptual foundation strong. What I love about the program is that it has planned modules with smart learning journeys that are based on personalized engine recommendations for what Aryaa should learn/solve next, based on her progress.

It also gives real-time feedback on digitally-enabled worksheets that she solves along with Jane, her cute little online friend. The best part is that she can celebrate all her victories and milestones with cool badges and stickers, that keep her super pumped to learn more!

With access to the Parent Zone, I get to know how Aryaa is developing her skill sets via videos, and is gradually developing an interest in learning through games as well.

A lot of our learning time now is spent reading or watching stories that also helps us unwind. Nothing better than ending your day with Disney characters and their magical stories right?

Thanks to Disney.BYJU'S Early Learn App, home schooling is no more a nightmare and the last month has been the best month of home schooling for me. Also, Aryaa and I are spending more time together and bonding even better! What more does a mommy want right?

Committed to Care – Adapting community outreach during COVID times

My association with Nestlé’s Healthy Kids Programme dates back to 2016 and you all have seen me talk about the initiative since. They celebrated their tenth year anniversary last year, and I was happy to be a part of this commemoration. The Nestlé Healthy Kids Programme was started in 2009, to spread awareness on health and nutrition. In 2014, Nestlé partnered with the Magic Bus India Foundation with the aim to scale up their initiative.

The programme is focused on providing education on nutrition to adolescents between the age group of 10 to 17, in rural and backward areas of urban cities. Nestlé's goal is to create and raise awareness regarding good nutritional practices, cooking methods to enhance the nutritional content of foods and physical fitness among children. They use education as the tool to ensure the youth understand the value of nutrition and physical activity, so that they can lead a healthy life as adults.

They follow a four-point approach, which focuses on:
1. Nutrition Awareness
2. Physically Active Lifestyle
3. Waste Management
4. Sports for Development (S4D) - S4D is intentional use of sports as a metaphor to derive developmental outcomes.

Due to the pandemic, they have had to make amendments to the programme in response to the crisis. While speaking to the team, I was thrilled to learn how well they have coped and adjusted to the situation. What had me surprised is the cooperation of the adolescents and their parents! They obliged, when asked to switch to online mediums for accessing the programme.

The sessions conducted by Nestle, that are a part of the #HealthyKids program, on nutrition, health and hygiene were carried out virtually in containment and red zones. WhatsApp and tele calling were also used to pass on necessary information on these subjects. Face to face and interactive sessions were held in all the places where lockdown had been lifted.

Here's how Magic Bus is responding to the COVID-19 situation through virtual training for their staff:

1. Magic Bus has put to use its Learning Management System – Magic Bus Academy and uploaded modules on the prevention of COVID -19 on this mobile app based learning platform thus eliminating the need for physical training.

2. Posters, comic books and videos have also been uploaded to circulate information on COVID.

3. Several staff members have also undergone the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan training and learned the techniques to prevent Coronavirus.

Considering the situation, activities are carried on virtually in many areas. To prevent community outbreak, the team has adopted the following ways to create awareness:

● Social media messages are sent out and phone calls are made to educate community members across India on the steps to be taken to prevent COVID-19. Here’s what the staff did; Every member of the team was asked to record a video of proper hand washing technique and forward it to 10 community members. These individuals were then encouraged to forward it to another 10, creating a chain of information. Video calls, reminder messages and pledge campaigns are carried out continuously in these communities.

● The adolescents part of the programme were encouraged to stay home and assignments were given on topics related to health, nutrition and waste management, to keep them engaged.

● The volunteers demonstrated the use of Arogya Setu app and helped in enabling online application of Ration Cards. They also provided information on immunity boosting foods through phone calls and WhatsApp messages.

● Community mapping was followed by the team for door to door hand washing and sanitization campaigns. In addition, they also created and distributed face masks to the rest of the community.

● The hallmark day, this year, was celebrated virtually and was a huge success.

The initiative by Nestlé in association with Magic Bus India Foundation, has had a strong impact on the lives of many adolescents across the country. The teams have been working tirelessly to achieve their goals and I am honoured to be a part of a project that has the potential to shape the future of many.

Too Stylish, Too Soon?

If you notice these days, not only are adults super stylish, but our young ones are even more stylish. Now there is always a debate going on how much is too much and isn't it too soon to be so particular about their dressing? But I clearly think that as long as it is not over-priced and is pocket-friendly, I think it's all good. Looking dressed to the nine on a budget has always been my policy 90% of the time, and that is what I think matters as far as dressing up Aryaa goes as well. Looking good is important and so we do best what is in our capacity. Sometimes for special occasions it might be an exceptional case, but as long as you know that you are going to wear whatever you are buying more than once and can justify it to yourself, then go right ahead and make your kid wear it. The world will anyway have an opinion to give. So if you ask me - "Too Stylish, Too Soon?", I would say - "Nope! I like my child looking good and she loves to dress up too, and I am not breaking my bank doing it!" 😊

This outfit of Aryaa's including the sunglasses and shoes, is for under INR 1500 and still is super cute and stylish. Trust me to make our children look trendy we don't need to spend a bomb. In fact I know that when Aryaa starts making her own decisions, she will be as budget savvy as her mom and will do complete justice to any look be it for any price. After all, it's about making wise choices and making them work out well for you.

This outfit is currently one of Aryaa's favourites and I picked up everything for her from Hopscotch. She was practically wearing this once a week till lockdown struck us. I love the classic combination of blue and white. What I love even more is the beautiful design of the top and the floral and polka dot cold shoulder design. Aryaa's favourite item from this look are her sunglasses, which she think she looks super cool in. But what you can see at the end of it all is how much she loves the outfit, which is depicted by how joyfully and comfortably she has posed for it in all the pictures that were taken. Now if you achieve your child's happiness without breaking the bank, does anything else matter? 😊

The Little Pink Dress!

We all have our favourite 'Little Black Dress' and I have a couple, but lately I have a favourite 'Little Pink Dress'. I bought it during my birthday shopping last year, but it has been the perfect dress for the Indian Summer that we are facing, and so most of you have seen me on Instagram wearing it quite regularly during the lockdown. I think the term 'LPD' would be just apt for it!

Though I am more of a blush pink and baby pink girl, I fell in love with this dress the minute I saw it. I loved the very girly style, the Indian block print, how airy it was, how comfortable the material was and how well it fit. I have lately been wearing belts with a lot of my outfits, and this dress was ideal for the same.

The dress is versatile. You can keep it simple if wearing at home, and if you are stepping out then it doesn't need too much accessorizing - throw on a belt, some earrings, a pearl string bracelet, shimmery heels and a nice bag matching the colour of the belt or the heels, and you are set with a look that will take you from day to night. Mommy Humour that I can totally relate to! 🤭

The last couple of months in lockdown have been a total test of parenting for me. While it has been super tough, with a few ups and downs especially since there are no maids to help, I definitely would say that I haven't fared as badly as I thought I would in a situation as distressing as this. I know I have done and said some crazy things during this time, and so today in this post I’ve put together some of my favorite funny mom quotes that I have come across and completely related to, but in good humour. I am sure most of you are also going to relate to each one of these, and so I had to share them with you for you to have a good laugh too. 😊

OMG! Aryaa talks and how much! And even if I tell her to keep quiet for a bit, do you think she listens?? 🤦

Now this is the perfect one in continuation with the previous one. But in general also, nothing that I say seems to go into Aryaa's ears!

And controlling my temper and sometimes not being able to control it at all has been my greatest issue during the lockdown!

Like what is with us buying our kids chocolate and they not sharing even one with us?! I mean especially my favourite M&Ms, like just one teeny tiny one??

And how many times hasn't this happened? In fact, my shower timings have changed to evenings so that Prateek can watch Aryaa when I shower for this not to happen to me.

An just in case I am able to shower peacefully, then this has to surely happen!

But then, every time we think we are done and can't live with our kids anymore, we also realize that we can't live without them at all! 👩‍👧

Recipe: Quick Chocolate Cheese Balls

This blog post is all about a recipe that contains all that a child loves - chocolate and cheese! Today I am sharing with you a quick recipe for Chocolate Cheese Balls that are easy to make, eat and carry along anywhere. In fact making these can be a fun activity with your kids, just like it's one for Aryaa too. It's a great dish to indulge in the goodness of chocolate with a twist, and is loved by kids and adults. It also makes for the perfect lockdown snack.

A lot of you may be new to Chocolate Cheese but it's a fun variant available in the market and this is what I am using in this recipe. It's also perfect for sandwiches for our little ones. I use the Go Cheese Chocolate at my place. Here is the recipe for you!

Ingredients:

2-3 slices of Chocolate Cheese
1/4th bowl grated coconut
1/4th bowl chopped mixed nuts
1/4th bowl powdered sugar

Method:

1. Break the Chocolate Cheese slices into small pieces.

2. Add sugar, 3/4th of the grated coconut and 3/4th of the chopped mixed nuts.

3. Knead the mixture well and then roll them into bite sized balls. This is a great step to involve your child.

4. Sprinkle the remaining grated coconut on the balls and use the remaining chopped nuts to garnish. Your Chocolate Cheese Balls are ready to be devoured.

This recipe is a great one for your kid's school tiffin, a house party or a picnic. Also when you want to bribe your child to do some chores during the lockdown or otherwise, this would be a great reward. Do let me know if you try this recipe out. Would love to know how much your kids liked it!

My 5 Make-up Essentials!

I love make-up and while I have loads of different products in my vanity, there are 5 products that are total essentials for me. With these 5 I can also whip up a basic look in a jiffy, and so today in this blog post, I am sharing with you the 5 make-up products that I can't do without!

1. Concealer

A concealer is a saviour. No other make-up products can mask your blemishes, dark circles, age spots or any other imperfections on your skin better than a concealer. In fact if you are that kind of a woman who is always on the go and has no time for all the steps of make-up especially the base, then the concealer is also a product that you should swear by! When you are running late or just feeling too lazy to apply your base properly or don't like applying layers of the base, just dab on a little concealer, preferably with a brush, under your eyes, on the corners of your mouth, and on the sides of your nose, and you are good to go. I swear by the Maybelline Age Rewind concealer because its a super concentrated formula (MAGIC formula) where the goji berry and haloxyl help to erase the appearance of dark circles and fine lines, while visibly reducing the appearance of puffiness around the eyes.

2. Pressed Powder

A pressed powder is perfect as a light cover-up while setting the base and also as a finishing powder. Since I have dry skin, it requires a light pressed powder. The MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder fits my requirement as it is really light, sheer, silky, not at all chalky(micro-fine) and has the ability to last on the skin for over 6 hours of use, keeping the skin looking fresh and flawless. For a person like me, who mostly has no time for touch-ups and likes the natural look, there couldn't be a better powder to carry in my make-up pouch. Also it sets my foundation and concealer perfectly without an over done look and that I what I love about it. I have been using it for over 10 years now.

3. Blush

Blushes are perfect to add colour to the face and nice flush to the cheeks. A touch of pink/rose/peach blush can absolutely brighten up your make-up. They also do a good job of making patchy dry skin look healthier. I use blushes from multiple brands like MAC, Lakmé, Oriflame, Estee Lauder and Nudestix.

4. Gel Eyeliner/Kajal

As I wear contact lenses, I need waterproof options as far as eyeliner/kajal is concerned and so I prefer using waterproof gel eyeliner on my lids and lower lash line so that it doesn’t smudge or smear. A gel eyeliner is super easy to apply and also gives a natural and soft look. It has the absolutely perfect consistency for making a winged eyeliner as well. I use the Maybelline one in black and the L'Oréal one in dark blue.

5. Hydrating Lipstick

I love subtle pink lipsticks for the natural look, and for daily wear I like to use the hydrating ones. The Clinique Lip Colour + Primer is my absolute favourite and I never run out of stock of these. Not only does it have amazing colour pay off but it also has a smoothing primer which keeps your lips moisturized all the time. You can say bye bye to chapped lips while sporting some pretty colours.

With these 5 make-up essentials of mine, I am totally sorted, and they are good enough to put on a basic make-up look to step out for work, coffee or errands. During the lockdown, they do complete justice to the minimal make-up that I need to do for zoom calls, shoots or my lives. What are your make-up essentials that you totally can't do without?

The last one month has been super special. While on the personal front it has meant a lot of quality family bonding time, on the work front too it has been phenomenal. I've had 4 press features and each one has been super special. In times like these when everything is at a low, and one has to keep motivating oneself to work harder, appreciation like these in the form of press features can really be a morale booster. I have been a part of this community since I started blogging in 2009. My Rekindled Love for Crop Tops!

Until a year ago, I was always on the fence about crop tops. I adored the trend but wasn't ready to embrace it because I always thought it's not for me. But how wrong was I! I was aware of all the styles in the market, the ways to wear them, and I knew all the styling tips too as far as a crop top was concerned, but never applied any of them for myself, till one day, a realization dawned upon me. 😀

After Aryaa’s birth, I was never confident that I could carry off a crop top, thanks to all the inches, flab and stretch marks that I had added to my mid section. Before Aryaa I had a flat tummy, and so the change made me uncomfortable about wearing a lot of stuff that I didn't shy from wearing earlier on. At the same time, the funniest thing was that I never felt the lack of confidence when I wore a saree and my mid section showed. But it bothered me a lot when I wore western clothes. Funny na? However the day this realization dawned on me, suddenly my fear of crop tops just reduced. Of course a slimmer mid section with lighter stretch marks, along with an elevated level of comfort with my body despite increased size over time, now makes me a lot more comfortable to carry crop tops off. Am I the only one here or have any of you felt anything similar?

This was the first outfit I put together after I shopped for a few crop tops. This knot crop top was my absolute favourite buy, and so I had to wear it before any of the others. The red striped asymmetrical skirt that you see in this blog post, was also one of my favourite buys last year and I am glad I waited for the right top to come along before I finally wore it. I truly think the whole combination looked super cute and chic!

I take care of a few things when I style my crop tops:

I always wear bottoms that are high waisted, be it skirts, jeans, trousers, or palazzos. This way either your midriff doesn't get bared at all, or even if it does then it's the slimmest portion that will show.
I always wear heels because the it makes the torso look even longer and thus balances out the outfit along with making me look taller.

By the way, some people think that crop tops should only be worn by really young people. But according to me, there is no age limit to wearing a crop top and if you are comfortable wearing it, then you should! Right now they also make for the perfect summer companions over your shorts and joggers especially while you chill at home during the lockdown. 😊

6 Ways I am Adapting as a Content Creator during the Covid-19 Lockdown

As the Coronavirus a.k.a Covid-19 pandemic takes over the world, the lockdown has left a lot of content creators trying out different ways how to adjust to what is being thrown at us. Stepping out of the house is not a possibility nor is interaction with anyone other than immediate family members who we live with, and so for me too its been a time where trying to figure out how to continue churning out fresh yet relevant content has not been easy. However, I have kind of worked my way out and deduced what I think works best for me, given the situation and my increased home responsibilities. What I am really thankful about is that I am safe at home along with family, and so adapting and growing with a positive mindset is how I have to approach everything.

Sharing with you 6 Ways I am Adapting as a Content Creator during the Covid-19 Lockdown:

1. I am focusing on my blog on a daily basis

Till the pandemic hit us, I had literally become non-existent on my blog in the last one year. My energies were all focused on platforms that had gained popularity in the last few years, the main one being Instagram, and then my other social media channels. While I used to blog multiple times a month till 2018, in 2019 the frequency came down to once a month, which also had put me in a guilty spot. Every time I planned to blog more, it didn't work out. Until the lockdown happened and then suddenly on the 30th of April, I had a brainwave and I challenged myself to blogging all of May, everyday. So it's a 31 day challenge to blog everyday which I call the May 2020 Blogging Challenge, which a lot of you already know about, and ya I have been successful till now to produce a blog post every day which I am thrilled about. I plan the topic to write on right on the day of the post and then write and publish it, which has helped me put my brain cells on thinking mode and bring out the true blogger in me again. A lot of you have also joined me on this challenge and have been super sweet to drop your links in the link tool that I share after every blog post, and I have been loving reading your blog posts. A lot of you also come here from my social media channels to read my posts and I truly appreciate that. I’m trying to really think on a daily basis about the type of content people want to consume, and am keeping it a healthy mix of food and nutrition, fashion, motherhood, beauty, and entertainment. Planning to add travel to this too very soon, but any suggestions would help, so do drop that in the comments.

2. I am using all my image/video banks to create content that I hadn't shared earlier

In the last few years, I have shot tons of pictures and videos. A couple of them have made it to my social media feeds, but some of them haven't seen the light of day at all. So now I am sorting out everything slowly and steadily, and starting to use the unused ones across my platforms, as well as re-purpose some content that was used on one platform but not on the other. In this way I am able to create content that I hadn't shared earlier. Also for a lot of topics that make sense for now, if I have pictures shot and kept from earlier, then I use those to represent what I want to say. This way I do not have to stress about not being able to shoot regularly.

3. Executing all shoots indoors

If you live in Mumbai especially in an apartment, then the shoot spaces are limited. When I got my new house done up, I had focused on certain spots as being my shoot spots, but that was also keeping in mind, that I would be regularly shooting outdoors as well. Shooting non stop within the house for over 2 months was never something that I had imagined I would ever have to do in my life, and so obviously the spots I had planned for shoots were not enough. So setting up other spaces within the house to shoot is what I have been upto. Also I am relying heavily on my phone to shoot and my apps on my phone to edit, since prior to the lockdown I worked with photographers, videographers and editors for content execution which is what I still prefer, but till the lockdown extends, I have no choice but to give my best shot on doing it on my own. Thankfully I have Prateek who was my photographer and videographer before I started outsourcing, and so he too has been a great help on this front.

4. Capturing what is keeping me busy during the lockdown

Since the lockdown has been all about relevant and helpful content, one of the best ways to create content is to capture that what keeps you busy right now. So for me, since cooking and keeping Aryaa busy has become my priority, a lot of my content revolves around cooking and activities that Aryaa does with me or on her own, be it music, education, exercise, cleaning, reading, movies or cooking. This way I am able to cater to a lot of current requirements of my followers.

5. Collaborating with other influencers for fun ideas

Before the lockdown, most influencers were completely busy with their own content creation and brand collaborations. But with the pandemic, most brand collaborations and work associated with events and travel have gone for a toss. This is giving most of us time to execute organic collaborations with co-bloggers, and I have had a some great experiences creating organic, innovative and meaningful content for such collaborations.

6. Hosting Saturday Night Instagram live parties in collaboration with a DJ

So for the first couple of weeks of the lockdown, I hosted a few Saturday Night Parties by collaborating with a DJ and taking requests from followers. I used to go live with the DJ for an hour on Saturday nights, where my followers would also join in and then we would dance away for the next one hour. It got a fabulous response and everyone who joined in, loved the idea. A leg injury made it difficult for me to continue with the Saturday Night Parties, but now that I am nearly recovered, the plan is to host them again with different DJs churning out some amazing sets, and so stay tuned for it on my Instagram.

Recipe: Peanut Butter and Strawberry Jelly Cookie Sandwich

So today's blog post is all about a fun dish which I had come up with last year for Aryaa's school tiffin time. Aryaa loves peanut butter and strawberry jelly candy, and so using those along with cookies, I created the Peanut Butter and Strawberry Jelly Cookie Sandwich for her. Now during the lockdown too I have to keep making dishes that she likes especially for snack time, and I involve her in no fire cooking as well, so this is a quick and fun one which she loves to make and then eat too.

Here is the Recipe for you!

Ingredients:

1 packet digestive cookies

1/2 cup creamy peanut butter

20 pieces Alpenliebe Juzt Jelly Strawberry candy or any other Strawberry Jelly that you have at home or is easily available at the store

Method:

1. In a bowl mix the peanut butter and jelly candy. Make sure the jellies get coated well with peanut butter.

2. Take one cookie and spread the peanut butter and jelly mixture on it. Then sandwich with another cookie. Enjoy!

Simple isn't it? Do try it out, I am sure your kids will love it! Honestly, I love it too! In case your child doesn't like peanut butter or is allergic to peanuts, then you can substitute the peanut butter with Nutella for a chocolaty version of the same. Once school re-opens, both these variations will make for great tiffin treats too. 😊

6 ways to Twin with your Daughters!

Let me be very honest! 😀 One of the main reasons why I always prayed to God that I should have a daughter was so that I could play dress up with her. I mean isn't it cute when mommies and their daughters dress up in matching outfits which we now call TWINNING? Not only is it fun, but it also makes for really good photo opportunities! 😉

Here are 6 ways in which you can TWIN with your daughters:

1. Matching dresses are always a great idea

When it comes to matching dresses, there is no hassle of planning the top and bottom, as you are sorted in one go. The same dresses in different sizes look super cute. Either get them stitched, or head to stores where you get the same dress in both sizes. I got our dresses that you see in the picture above from Westside.

2. Same print but different style of tops

When you want to match but not look exactly the same, you can go for the same print and colour of the top but in different styles. Like I am wearing a blue with white polka dots shirt over black culotte pants, and Aryaa is wearing a blue with white polka dots t-shirt over black jeans. This way both of us are in our own comfort zones, while we showcase our own unique style and personality, and the world still knows that she is my baby girl. This tip is also very useful when you are travelling with your daughter or are sightseeing. Helps you locate each other, as well as the kids can easily help others identify you in case they get lost. In the picture, I am wearing a shirt from Express and Aryaa is wearing a t-shirt from GAP.

2. Mommy Daughter T-shirts

So in the case of Mommy Daughter T-shirts, the T-shirts are 90% the same, other than a difference in the print, like in the image above. Mine says Insta-Mom and Aryaa's says Insta-Kid. I loved these t-shirts the minute I saw them as they were apt for Aryaa and me because of how Instagram active we are. Our t-shirts are from The Children's Place.

4. Exactly the same Polo T-shirts

Most of the brands that make Polo T-shirts for kids and adults would be having identically the same colours and patchwork patterns in T-shirts of both sizes. These look super smart and you can dress them up or dress them down depending on your personal styles. Our Polo T-shirts here are from U.S. Polo Assn.

5. Layering matching tops

As you can see in the picture above, Aryaa and me are wearing exactly the same t-shirt, which has been layered with exactly the same denim shirt. And you can see how cute it looks! You can try doing this the way we did it or by layering solid coloured matching t-shirts/singlets with solid coloured matching shirts, like a white singlet with a red shirt or a black t-shirt with a white shirt. Our t-shirts and denim shirts in the picture above are from Pepe Jeans.

6. Matching the colour of your top and bottom

This is the easiest way to twin and so I kept this tip for the last. All you need is to match the colour of your tops without bothering what the style or material of the top is. Similar wear the same colour jeans/pants and you are set. This way you match but are still not too matchy matchy. It's basically about matching the colour scheme. My top above is from Shein and jeans are from Tommy Hilfiger, whereas Aryaa's lace top is from Central and her jeans are from Zara.

I hope you liked the tips to twin with your girls. In case you have boys, then other than the first tip, all the rest can be used to twin with your boys as well. All in all, these help to put together some cute outfits and create some memorable moments. If you try them out, do let me know. 😊

Perfect Blue Summer Dress + Styling Tips!

After a white dress, I think nothing screams summer more than a pretty blue dress. I chanced upon a beautiful one which you see above during one of my sourcing sprees, and while it didn't fit my sourcing requirement then, it fit the bill for a beautiful blue summer dress that I always wanted to own and so I bought it that very instant. What made the buy even better was that it's made from pure cotton which makes it even more apt, cool and comfortable to wear for the hot hot weather that we face in the summers.

The dress get its blue hue from pretty blue pinstripes that it's adorned with, and the tiered panelled design creates a loose, flowy outline which gives the dress a very charming and romantic appeal. It also has cute tasseled ties at the back.

I have 5 ways to wear the dress. Sometimes just as it is, and sometimes I pair the dress with

a simple white tee
a puffed sleeves white shirt
a simple white shirt
a short bell sleeves eyelet fabric (hakoba) white top

As far as footwear is concerned, I teamed it with a pair of blush pink wedge heels, but you can also pair with

white strappy heels if you have an occasion to attend
a pair of trainers for running errands
strappy sandals for a date night or a cup of coffee with your girls

You can add on simple accessories like a nice long necklace, or a belt on your upper waist, or a hat like I have.

I keep so many options for myself coz when summer comes, and I find something comfy, then I tend to wear it again and again, and so the styling options have to be multiple. If I had the freedom right now to step out, you would be seeing me hitting the streets in all these combinations, but for now let's say it's serving me well as I stay stylish inside the house. 😊

I am back with Part 2 of my series where I am sharing a few Indian and International Drugstore dupes for some iconic high-end products and brands! In this post, the makeup items are different from the earlier ones shared with you, so it only helps to add to your kitty. Last time it was more about the base and the eyes, and this time it's a completely different range of products. So, here you go!

Lipstick

Give a woman the right lipstick and she can conquer the world!

The MAC Meher is an iconic shade and a lot of us can't do without it. But Wet 'n' Wild, also has the same shade called In the Flesh, which is the perfect substitute! Similarly the MAC Whirl, which is one of my favourite nudes, has a great match in the Maybelline Nude Nuance.

Blush

Well it is a true fact, that you don't need any other make-up if you have blush on you cheeks. They are just perfect for adding that rosy and fresh glow to your face.

The Clinique Cheek Pop shades of pink come quite close to the Nykaa blushes in pink.

Highlighter

You may not be perfect, but your glow can be!

Bronzer

Use a bronzer to add warmth and richness to your face. Can also work super well for contouring.

Setting Spray

A setting spray sets your makeup, keeping your look fresh and in place far longer than it would normally last. I can't do without one!

However, the pricing of these brands still stops a lot of people from buying them due to their not so economical pricing as everyone may not be able to afford them. The perfect base needs to be created before you do the rest of your makeup - you obviously need a foundation!

Empowering our Little Girls!

Empowering our little girls is so important in today’s world - it’s a commitment that you have to make to yourself to make sure that you help them to inculcate a sense of belonging in this world.

Our generation is definitely empowering our little girls in unconventional ways. Actually most of our moms (and dads) were already on this path, which is why we follow what they did and more, for the next generation. This is what I follow with Aryaa (which Prateek takes an active role in as well) and thus help her to

1. Believe in herself
2. Love herself
3. Be confident to achieve what she chooses to
4. Stand up for what she logically believes in
5. Chase her dreams and then live them
6. Develop her own voice
7. Be empathetic
8. Trust her gut
9. Learn to say no
10. Believe in the goodness of her heart and love freely
11. Take her own decisions (this is not easy at all for moms but must be done)
12. Build her communication skills
13. Appreciate the women around her
14. Love her body at any size
15. Believe that everyone is equal
16. Respect herself

A mommy daughter relationship is not always harmonious when you are doing this. It needs a lot of patience at your end and the relationship needs to be carefully nurtured. Mutual respect is very important while doing this and you too need to use the right and positive statements when you are trying to inculcate these qualities. Our daughters are beautiful, strong, smart, which we need to constantly tell them, but we also need to let them fail, and be right there to help them get up again. Also as a woman, while showing Aryaa that she is my priority, I also make sure to make time for myself and other important things in my life. I believe it shows her that self-respect starts with self-care that further leads to confidence which impacts all facets of our lives.

To create ladies of the future with strong characters and who create their own lives their way, empowering them from a young age is definitely the way! And remember, having daughters is the most beautiful combination of gifts and responsibilities, which is exactly what we love. Which is why, no day goes by without me telling Aryaa that - Aryaa Mumma loves you!

My Sunshine Girl! 🌞🌞🌞

The sunshine to my storms - yes that's what Aryaa means to me - My Sunshine Girl, which is why I gave this title to the blog post because she truly is a ray of sunshine. She has made me happy every day since the day she was born, and trust me I do not exaggerate that at all. She is such a happy girl every day, other than a few 5 year old attitude and tantrum moments. In fact till the age of 3 she barely would cry or even throw a tantrum - she was the happiest kid I had seen. I don't say that because she is my child, it was just how she was. I do not deny though that now there are days she makes me want to run away sometimes, especially during this lockdown, but at the end of the day she is the only one who can turn my grumpy mood into a happy one. Her voice and her hugs and her thoughts, nothing for me is more innocent, cute and soothing!

Aryaa has been a ball of energy and sunshine since day one. She is a Tornado and she can drive you nuts, but she also always looks at the positive side, and comes up with some crazy ideas, which I find is the perfect balance! And our lives are all colourful thanks to her, because Art is one of the most important things in her life. In fact she is the perfect business partner I have in this business of blogging - patient, fun and always trying to come up with some unique suggestions when we shoot, and some of the content that you see also has Aryaa's inputs used to execute.

Ask her who is her favourite, and the answer will be "MOM"! Trust me it makes my heart melt when I hear that coz girl's favourites are mostly their Daddies. She always comes and pats my back when she sees mummy tried but didn't succeed which are followed by her 3 most thoughtful words - "It's ok mama!" But she also sees my success and celebrates with me when I finally succeed. I know that if she has ever learnt anything from me, it's that if you work hard, you can make things happen. Even when the world thinks that you cannot!

So to my sunshine girl, who I know is going to go places, for me everyday is Mother's Day coz you make it special every day. I am glad that I got to spend this lockdown with you by my side. Don't know when we will ever get these times again as a family but I am grateful. You are the best! You bore my storms and you calmed them too. Thank you! 💛💛💛💛

Doesn't Aryaa look the cutest in all the pictures? I just loved her dress and and the way she radiates in it. Yellow is the perfect colour for summer and I love how pretty Aryaa looks in this colour. What I love about this dress is the pearl detailing on the top, the embroidery on the jacket, and how versatile it is as it can be worn in 2 ways - with and without the jacket. Due to the vibrant colour, I just need to add simple accessories - cute hair clips and her pretty white Mary Jane shoes, and Aryaa is set! 🌻🌻🌻
