Now, how did these savage hunters end up working with the Tau Empire—the high-tech, peace-and-plasma-loving squad that usually prefers negotiation over biting? During the War in the Place of Union, the Tau stumbled on Kroot warspheres under attack by Orks. Watching these underdog warriors getting blasted didn’t sit well with the Tau commanders (probably because they didn’t want the jungle to smell like barbecue all the time).

So, the Tau stepped in, wiped out the Ork invaders, and formed an alliance with the Kroot. The legendary Kroot leader Anghkor Prok swore allegiance to the Tau at the sacred Oathstone on Pech, pledging his warriors to the Greater Good — mostly because the Tau pay well and don’t mind when the Kroot get a little... messy.

Since then, the Kroot have become the most common alien mercenaries in the Tau armies, prized for their brutal combat skills, adaptability, and willingness to eat the enemy (which is both handy and slightly unsettling). These massive, ape-like beasts are evolutionary dead ends — which means they’re not about to evolve into anything smarter anytime soon. But who cares? With their hulking muscles and enough anger to fuel a small supernova, Krootox are perfect for carrying heavy gear, smashing through enemies, and generally causing mayhem.

Heads-up from the T’au: If you see a Krootox looking angry, your best bet is to run. Like, yesterday.

KROOTOX RIDERS

Mounted on the backs of these beasts are Kroot warriors armed with heavy weapons — because what’s better than a rampaging beast? One with a Repeater Cannon or a Tanglecannon strapped on their back!

They move fast for their size (7” movement), soak up a good amount of punishment (Toughness 6, 5 wounds), and bring some serious firepower to your army. When enemy shooters pick on nearby Kroot infantry, the riders get to retaliate immediately — like a well-aimed slap from a gorilla, but with guns.

KROOT RAMPAGERS

If the riders are the “big guns,” the rampagers are the “big fists.” These beasts charge into combat swinging their massive fists, knocking enemies to bits with brutal melee attacks. VESPID STINGWINGS: THE ALIEN WARRIORS WITH A STING (AND A CRYSTAL ADDICTION)

When the T’au first bumped into the Vespid, they spotted something shiny and smart—and not just because of the crystals these insectoid warriors are obsessed with. The Vespid evolved on a jungle world full of giant bugs and treacherous terrain, developing powerful crystal-based tech but somehow never quite figured out how to leave the planet. Space flight? Nope, they were too busy perfecting their stinging claws and perfecting their “What even is communication?” faces.

Early attempts at chatting with the Vespid were less “hello” and more “are you alive?” because their alien brains didn’t even register the T’au as sentient beings. It took a fancy Ethereal-engineered interface device called the Communion Helm to literally plug the two species into the same conversation. Suddenly, the Vespid got the memo on the Greater Good—and agreed to join the cause.

The XV88 Broadside Battlesuit is the T’au Empire’s answer to a simple battlefield question: "What if we took a Crisis Suit and replaced all the agility with EVEN MORE gun?" The result? A near-immovable chunk of death-dealing ceramite and grav-locked weaponry, built to turn battlefields into smouldering craters.

They may move slower than a pensioner queuing at the post office, but make no mistake—when a Broadside sets up shop, something’s going to explode. Probably several somethings, and quite possibly with impeccable aim and a cup of tea on the side.

LORE: A RAILGUN A DAY KEEPS THE LEMAN RUSS AWAY

Developed after the initial success of the XV8 Crisis Battlesuit, the XV88 Broadside was born from a simple T’au doctrine: why dance around the enemy when you could just vaporise them from across the map?

First unveiled during the Damocles Gulf Crusade, Broadside teams were rapidly recognised by Imperial forces as a very serious problem. Their heavy rail rifles—essentially portable tank cannons—turned the most durable vehicles into smoking ruins with pinpoint accuracy. Guardsmen would speak in hushed tones of the rail shot's distinctive whip-crack, which could only be heard after the round had already hit and destroyed its target. In short, if you heard it, it wasn’t meant for you. Lucky you.

As the T’au Empire expanded its borders during the Third Sphere Expansion, Broadsides became an essential part of the Fire Caste’s war machine. Whether holding defensive lines or forming the backbone of a firebase, their mix of precision and sheer brutality earned them a terrifying reputation. Even hardened Ork warbosses have been known to pause when facing a unit of them—although only briefly, before charging and being promptly erased from existence.

During the Kel’shan campaign against Hive Fleet Gorgon, Broadside teams proved their adaptability once again. The standard smart missile systems were swapped for twin-linked plasma rifles—an upgrade that made them even more effective at putting down the largest Tyranid monstrosities. Imagine trying to chew through a T’au defensive line when every one of your big scary bugs is getting double-tapped by walking rail turrets. Bio-Titans? More like Bio-firewood.

So while your Broadside might be slower than a Grox stuck in molasses, it’s also way less likely to die to sneaky backstabs or arcane nastiness.

BUILT FOR SPEED AND LETHALITY

The TX-4 Piranha is like the caffeine-fueled messenger of the Tau Fire Caste — a lightly armored skimmer that zooms across the battlefield faster than you can say “run for cover.” It seats two crew members: one to fly the thing and the other to blow stuff up. Powered by anti-gravity tech and jet thrusters that basically make it hover like it’s got a personal force field, the Piranha can glide over terrain, dodge obstacles, and generally embarrass anything slower than it.

Its armor is made from something fancy called Fio'tak — a nano-crystalline metal that’s light, strong, and apparently doesn’t mind getting scratched. This lets the Piranha keep its speed without turning into a glass cannon. Plus, it’s got these nifty little winglets on the sides that carry gun drones. These tiny robotic buddies either boost firepower or go off on solo missions. Basically, the Piranha travels with its own little drone squad — because why wouldn’t it?

A SNEAK PEEK INTO HISTORY (BECAUSE LORE IS COOL)

The Imperium first spotted the Piranha during a diplomatic mission on the Tau world of Dal'yth — where it was just casually ferrying Tau diplomats around like a fancy hover limo. But don’t be fooled by the serene first impression. It was during the Taros Campaign that the Piranha showed its teeth (pun absolutely intended).

At Hydro Processing Plant 23-30, these speedy skimmers played havoc with the 114th Cadian Regiment’s relief column. They lobbed seeker missiles, zipped between Chimeras, and generally made life miserable enough to delay the entire force — paving the way for the Tau to take control. Later, in desert combat, Piranhas relentlessly harassed retreating Imperial forces, proving their worth as both scouts and hit-and-run specialists. Since then, the Piranha’s armor and weapons have been upgraded, and it’s become a beloved tool of the Fire Caste. Getting trained to pilot one is like earning a spot on the Tau’s ‘fast and furious’ squad — highly competitive and seriously prestigious.

Piranhas aren’t your typical slowpoke tanks. They’re nimble, fast, and hit hard — perfect for flanking, scouting, and harassing enemies. They can work alone or in packs of up to three, making them flexible little nightmares for enemy forces.

In the swirling dust and blazing sun of a war-torn Imperial colony, a strange thing happens. A hulking Space Marine steps onto the field and—before he can utter "For the Emperor"—gets lit up like a disco ball by a burst cannon, two ion rifles, and something called a rail rifle (which really should come with a do not stand in front of warning).

What happened?

The Pathfinders happened.

PATHFINDERS – TACTICAL HIPSTERS OF THE T’AU EMPIRE

THE LORE

Pathfinders are the eyes and ears of the T’au Empire’s Fire Caste. While the bulk of the T’au army engages from long range with advanced technology and overwhelming force, Pathfinders slip ahead of the main battle lines. They’re recon operatives, forward observers, and special weapons specialists—each one a walking threat detector, GPS beacon, and weapons tester rolled into one.

Trained to infiltrate hostile terrain, spot enemy vulnerabilities, and relay targeting data to the larger T’au war machine, Pathfinders are often the first to arrive on the battlefield—and the first to make the enemy regret being there at all.

They’re fast, flexible, and extremely disruptive—like battlefield influencers armed with rail rifles instead of ring lights.

THE RULES (AND WHY THEY'RE SNEAKY-SMART)

TARGET UPLOADED

This is the main event: when Pathfinders Spot a unit, they mark it for destruction with advanced T’au tech. Every T’au unit that shoots at that target gets +1 to Ballistic Skill and [IGNORES COVER] Ontop of all this they are the only unit that in the whole tau army that can get the same benefits from there own spotting bonus.
What does this mean? Your opponent’s fancy ruin-hugging elite infantry now might as well be standing in a parking lot under floodlights. And your Hammerhead just got a free AimBot.

SPECIAL WEAPONS

Pathfinders bring unique toys to the party:

• Rail Rifles – 30" range, AP -4, D3 damage, and Devastating Wounds. Perfect for mulching elite units and heroes. One shot, one mess.

• Ion Rifles – Flexible with two modes:

  • Standard: S7, AP -1, D1 – ideal for light armor and infantry.

  • Overcharge: S8, AP -2, D2, [Hazardous] – punchier, but risky. Like strapping a grenade to a taser and hoping for the best.

DRONES: BECAUSE WHY NOT BRING A ROBOT BUDDY?

You get one drone system, but oh boy, each one is worth considering:

• Grav-inhibitor Drone: Makes enemy charges -2" when coming at your unit. Makes your squad annoyingly hard to engage in melee.

• Pulse Accelerator Drone: Adds +6" range to your pulse carbines. That’s a serious boost when you're using volume fire to chip down hordes.

• Recon Drone: Gives the unit the Infiltrators ability and carries a drone burst cannon. Deploy up the board and lay down surprise firepower.

HOW THEY PLAY

Pathfinders want to infiltrate early, spot threats, and set up the rest of your army for success. They are force multipliers—turning good shooting phases into legendary ones. You’re not just shooting with your Pathfinders—you’re shooting through them.

They don’t just hunt targets. They curate them.

DARKSTRIDER – THE RUIN WHISPERER

“That support beam is load-bearing. Remove it.” – Darkstrider, seconds before a building collapsed on a Chaos Lord

THE LORE

El’Myamoto, known universally as Darkstrider, is a legend among Pathfinders. Equal parts field commander and structural engineer, he is cold, calculating, and grimly effective.

He doesn’t lead in the traditional sense. He points, and people shoot better. He walks into fortified ruins, scans the walls, and tells his team, “If we shoot here, this whole flank falls.”

He’s been in more close-quarters gunfights than some Fire Warriors have fired rifles, and his ability to dissect the enemy’s defenses with cold precision makes him a force multiplier like no other.

If Farsight is the blade of the T’au Empire, and Shadowsun is its spearpoint—Darkstrider is the chisel. He chips away at enemy defenses until the entire warplan cracks open.

THE GHOST WITH A RANGEFINDER

Among the T’au, few warriors command the kind of silent reverence Darkstrider does. He’s not a hero in the traditional sense—he doesn’t seek glory, and he has no patience for ceremony. Where others celebrate the Greater Good with speeches, Darkstrider speaks through precision. He finds the softest point in the hardest target and turns it into a fault line.

Darkstrider earned his moniker after leading a suicidal recon operation into the shattered hive-spires of Vortlas II. His team returned not only intact, but with detailed schematics of the enemy’s stronghold—and within hours, the Fire Caste reduced the fortress to rubble, shot-for-shot, following his analysis. No T’au died. Thousands of enemies did.

Since then, he’s become a living myth among Pathfinder cadres: the one who walks alone through ruin and shadows, calculating angles, marking beams, and returning with just enough information to level an entire warzone.

THE RULES (AND WHY HE'S A BRAINY BEAST)

STRUCTURAL ANALYSER

If Darkstrider is leading a unit, all models in that unit add +1 to Wound rolls for their ranged attacks.
This is huge. Especially when combined with Pathfinders' [Spotter] buffs or special weapons. It turns even Strength 5 carbines into reliable threats against Marines. Ion rifles? Even more devastating. Rail rifles? Now you’re wounding Terminators on 2s and deleting characters with ease.

JAMMER ARRAY

No sneaky shenanigans here—enemy reserves cannot set up within 12" of Darkstrider.
He literally exudes “you shall not pass” energy. Want to drop in your Reinforcements? Do it somewhere else, buddy.

HOW HE PLAYS

Stick him in a squad of Pathfinders (especially with special weapons), and you’ve got a mobile death-dealer that punches above its weight.

• Infiltrate them into a ruin midfield.

• Use Target Uploaded to mark an enemy squad.

• With +1 to hit from spotting and +1 to wound from Darkstrider, your ion and rail rifles become surgical precision instruments of doom.

• Your opponent? Left wondering how their elite Terminator squad got turned into fine dust by a bunch of skinny blue aliens with glowy goggles.

And if they try to deep strike in to stop the carnage? That Jammer Array says “nope.”

But firepower doesn’t coordinate itself. Someone has to lead. And in the T’au Empire, not all commanders wear battlesuits.

Two of the most iconic leaders from the Empire’s ranks are the Cadre Fireblade and the Ethereal — figures who, while very different in purpose and personality, share a critical role: empowering the warriors they lead. One commands through martial discipline, the other through serene authority. Together, they represent the twin hearts of T’au military thought: efficiency and ideology.

Let’s explore what they bring to the tabletop, how they function on the battlefield, and why you might want them standing behind your squads (preferably not glaring at each other too much).

CADRE FIREBLADE – DISCLIPLINE MADE FLESH

The Cadre Fireblade is the embodiment of the Fire Caste’s values: precision, self-control, and devastatingly efficient firepower. These are veteran warriors who, despite earning the right to don a battlesuit, choose to remain on the ground, pulse rifle in hand. To them, war is personal — and honourable.

In game terms, the Fireblade is a powerful force multiplier for T’au infantry. He doesn’t bring flashy tricks or psychic powers — he brings raw ballistic output, and he brings it every turn.

ABILITIES

• Volley Fire: While this model is leading a unit, add 1 to the Attacks characteristic of ranged weapons equipped by models in that unit.
  This turns a standard Strike/Breecher Team into a much more dangerous unit, especially when combined with Markerlight buffs or Coordinated Engagements. Suddenly, that humble pulse rifle is spitting out three shots a model — and that volume adds up fast.

• Crack Shot: Each time this model makes a ranged attack, on a Critical Wound, that attack has an Armour Penetration of -3.
  Not only does he buff the squad, but he can also punch well above his weight when he gets a lucky shot in. It’s not flashy, but it’s satisfying.

BATTLEFIELD ROLE

The Fireblade is a natural fit for leading Strike Teams and Breacher Teams, particularly when you're holding the line or looking to unleash a deadly overwatch. He’s cheap, efficient, and always contributes. That kind of reliability is rare in a universe where daemons erupt from toilets and Eldar have nightmares about Thursdays.

He thrives in static or semi-mobile forces, holding down objectives while making sure the enemy pays dearly for every inch.

LORE INSIGHT

Fireblades are highly respected — and slightly feared — among Fire Warriors. Their refusal to pilot a battlesuit isn’t seen as weakness, but as a statement: true command comes from the ground, not the skies. Many of them act like old-school drill sergeants — exacting, ruthless, and frustratingly correct.

One imagines that their downtime is spent re-oiling pulse rifle parts while muttering about "kids these days" and "the proper way to clear a breach."

ETHEREALS – CALM. COMPOSED. IN CONTROL.

If the Cadre Fireblade is the iron hand of the T’au Empire, then the Ethereal is its unseen guide. Ethereals are more than leaders — they are living symbols of the Greater Good. Their presence on the battlefield does more than inspire; it compels obedience, strengthens resolve, and fuels the strategic engine of an entire army.

Unlike Fireblades, Ethereals do not lead with a weapon. Their authority is something quieter, yet far more absolute. Even hardened Fire Caste veterans will pause when an Ethereal enters the room.

ABILITIES

• Failure Is Not an Option: While this model is leading a unit, models in that unit gain the Feel No Pain 5+ ability.
  This is a powerful buff, turning even basic infantry into surprisingly resilient units. In a game where many units die to chip damage or incidental fire, shrugging off a third of your wounds can make a huge difference.

• Coordinated Leadership: At the end of your Command Phase, roll one D6. On a 4+, gain 1 Command Point.
  Command Points are the lifeblood of the T’au army — activating Mont’ka, using Kauyon, or triggering crucial stratagems. An Ethereal helping you generate CP every turn isn't just helpful — it's strategic gold.

BATTLEFIELD ROLE

The Ethereal excels at keeping units alive and giving you more resources to play the tactical game. He’s best used with durable units — Breachers, Strike Teams,— giving them a huge boost in staying power. Though he doesn’t fight directly, his influence is often felt more than seen.

An Ethereal standing calmly behind your battle line isn’t just a moral boost — it’s a force multiplier. His presence means you can last longer, reposition better, and push when it counts.

LORE INSIGHT

Ethereals occupy a strange and revered position in T’au society. They are philosopher-kings, guiding every aspect of T’au life — military, political, spiritual. Their authority is unquestioned, and their influence over the other castes has always raised eyebrows outside the Empire. Many alien observers suspect there's something more to their persuasive power than just good speeches.

But within the Empire, the Ethereals are seen as the voice of destiny. They don't raise their voices in anger. They don't need to. And when things go wrong? Well... they simply expected it to happen that way.

WHICH ONE TO TAKE?

Both the Cadre Fireblade and the Ethereal are valuable HQ choices — but they serve very different purposes.

Choose the Fireblade if:

• You’re running large infantry squads and want to dramatically increase their firepower.

• You prefer consistent offensive output over buffs or tricks.

• You want a cheap but efficient leader who boosts pulse weapons directly.

Choose the Ethereal if:

• You want to make your units more survivable with Feel No Pain.

• You’re running a CP-hungry list and want more resources for Stratagems.

• You appreciate subtle control over raw firepower.

Or take both. A Fireblade can hammer, while an Ethereal supports. It’s not just a good tactical combo — it’s a philosophical one too.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

The T’au Empire offers a different vision of leadership from most factions in Warhammer 40,000. Where others rely on brute force or zealous screaming, the Fireblade and Ethereal offer discipline, coordination, and belief.

Whether you're pushing the front line with withering pulse fire, or guiding a precise, durable force that bends but doesn't break, these two HQs stand as excellent — and thematic — options.

They may not wear giant exo-suits. They may not tear through enemies with relic blades or demonic talons. But in the quiet seconds between volleys, their presence is felt — in steady hands, tighter formations, and soldiers who know they're part of something larger than themselves.

And at the end of the day, that’s the Greater Good in action.

Shas’La T’au Kais, Strike Team Alpha

In an Empire dominated by the sleek curves of Crisis Suits and the pounding footsteps of Stormsurges, it’s easy to overlook the humble Fire Warrior.But whether you're suppressing flankers from cover or blowing the doors off a bunker at 10”, two units stand as the unshakable backbone of the T’au army: Strike Teams and Breacher Teams.

Strike Teams: Cold Precision and Suppressive Fire

The Strike Team is your disciplined, methodical, long-range infantry. They’re the kind of professionals who wake up at 0400 to do target drills before breakfast and re-fold their sheets tighter than a Cadian command tent.Armed with pulse rifles and backed by Suppression Volley, they’re finally bringing more to the table than "standing still on a back objective and hoping not to die."

STRIKE TEAM STATS

At 15”, you're firing twice with Str 5. Not bad for a humble rifle that looks like it came out of a drone assembly line.

Suppression Volley – Special Ability

“After this unit shoots, select one enemy INFANTRY unit it hit. That enemy unit is suppressed until the start of your next turn. Suppressed units suffer -1 to Hit.”Translation: You now mess with elite infantry. Very decent for a guy wearing paper-thin armour and a helmet made out of repurposed drone casings.

Guardian Drone Support

Strike Teams can bring a Guardian Drone:

When being shot, your opponent subtracts 1 from the Wound roll. That’s right. The little floating buddy now passively protects your squad, even without a save roll.

T’au Breacher Teams: The Greater Good’s Loudest Knock at the Door

When the T’au Empire says "We come in peace," they really mean it… right up until you don’t agree. Then the Breacher Teams show up with a boarding shield in one hand and a close-range pulse blaster in the other, and the only thing being negotiated is your life expectancy.

Diplomacy With a Detonator

Breacher Teams are the T’au’s version of a SWAT team—if SWAT teams were bred in a Fire Caste training dome and told to never, ever use the word “subtlety.” They specialize in urban warfare, ship boarding actions, and what the T’au call “zero-metre diplomacy.” (It’s a lot like regular diplomacy, but with more plasma discharges and broken doorways.)

Trained from a young age to operate in high-stress, close-quarters combat, Breacher Teams are the bold edge of the T’au’s usually standoffish doctrine. While most T’au forces prefer a "shoot-you-from-over-there" approach, Breachers relish the opportunity to get up close and ruin someone's cover save.

Strike Teams may have cool heads, but Breacher Teams are the blunt force trauma of the Fire Caste. They’re equipped with pulse blasters, weapons so dangerous at close range that even Space Marines occasionally reconsider whether charging them is worth the effort

BREACHER STATS

They lost the old variable profiles, but this new version is deadly and reliable—and best of all, simple. Just get close. Pull trigger. Problem solved .Breach and Clear – Special Ability Each time this unit makes a ranged attack against an enemy on an objective marker, you can re-roll the Wound roll. That’s right: free wound re-rolls when targeting objective holders. Which, let’s be honest, is where 90% of units want to be.

Guardian Drone Support

Like Strike Teams, Breachers can bring a Guardian Drone: Your opponent subtracts 1 from Wound rolls made against this unit when shooting. Perfect for helping your shock troops survive just long enough to do their job

Strike or Breach? Why Not Both.

With the T’au Empire often leaning into Mont’ka fast attacks or Kauyon bait-and-punch tactics, it’s refreshing to see basic infantry with meaningful utility again. Strike Teams give you suppression and mid-board firepower. Breachers give you objective-trading lethality and serious threat projection at 10”. Both benefit from drones that make them tougher than they look.Add in the Guardian Drone’s passive -1 to Wound, and suddenly these once-frail infantry squads are feeling just durable enough to play the game.

Final Thoughts

In the grim dark of the far future, where titanic walkers and railguns rule supreme, it's the boots-on-the-ground Fire Warriors that still do the real work. So next time you’re fine-tuning your T’au list, remember: Don't just max out on Crisis suits. Don't forget your drones. And absolutely do not underestimate the power of a humble Breacher Team behind a Guardian Drone, storming objectives like it's the last can of recaf in the galaxy.

Rolling into Day 2, I was feeling good — 2 wins and a draw under my belt, technically undefeated, and apparently in the running to place quite high overall. I hadn’t been watching the leaderboard, but someone mentioned it, and I was asked to use a chess clock for the first time. That definitely added some pressure, but I was ready for it.

My opponent for Game 4 (we’ll call him Jo) was running a vehicle-heavy Ironstorm Spearhead — basically a wall of Space Marine tanks with firepower for days. A rough matchup for my list already, but hey, part of the game.

The issue? Ironstorm lets each vehicle re-roll one hit or one wound roll per phase. That’s it. But Jo was re-rolling both hit and wound rolls on every tank, every time. At first, I let it slide thinking it was just a misread. We’ve all made honest mistakes. But it kept happening — and there were other things too: loose measuring, questionable tank pivoting, small stuff that added up.

Eventually, I called the ref over. The judging team were legends, but with only a few of them for 300+ players, they couldn’t always get there fast. When they did arrive, Jo got a warning — but by that point, I was already getting tabled. Final score: 23–100. My worst loss in a long time.

I’m not gonna pretend I wasn’t tilted. Not my proudest moment. But I also want to be real — these things happen. I still would’ve lost that game. Jo’s list was a perfect counter to mine, and he played it well. But the constant misuse of rules soured what could’ve been a great match.

It’s important to show the losses too — not just the wins. Warhammer’s a game we all love, but sometimes things just don’t go your way. Whether it’s the dice, the matchup, or the player across the table, you take the hit, learn from it, and move on.

Game 5 – For the Greater Good (and the scoreboard)

Final round of the Manchester GT, and I was hungry to bounce back after the mess that was Game 4. I walked up to the table, saw Imperial Knights, and I’m not gonna lie — I was buzzing. I know how to play against Knights, and my list had all the right tools for the job. Even better, the mission rule was Scorched Earth — and if there’s one thing Knights aren’t famous for, it’s doing actions and holding objectives.

The game started slow, very cagey deployment on both sides. We both knew that whoever stuck their neck out first was probably getting it shot off. But then turn 2 happened.

My opponent (Alex, lovely guy) drew Area Denial and Secure No Man’s Land — so what does he do? He throws Canis Rex right into the middle of the board. Big lad. Full send. Even tried to Scorch the Earth while he was at it — which I allowed, since Canis is a Titanic Character and technically legal for that mission rule. Bold move, but the shooting that followed definitely hurt. I lost a Devilfish and a squad of Sunforge Crisis Suits. Ouch.

But then it was my turn. And everything came online.

I hit back with all I had. My Broadsides opened up and straight-up deleted Canis Rex — well, his robot form anyway. The pilot was still scurrying about somewhere, but the main threat was gone. Then came Voidbreaker, my Sunforge Commander, dropping in with his squad. He blew up one Armiger, and then — being a bit greedy — he split fire and also took down the second one.

It was risky, but as one of my mates always says: “Your models won’t do awesome stuff unless you give them the chance to.” And Voidbreaker did exactly that.

To top it all off, I’d drawn Bring It Down that turn and maxed it with 10 points, alongside scoring Area Denial myself. It was a massive swing turn — the kind that wins games.

At that point, Alex knew the writing was on the wall. But credit to him, he kept swinging and managed to kill nearly 1,000 points of my army before the game ended. Brutal. But I had the numbers and the speed to keep dancing around the board and racking up points.

Final score: 93–69. A hard-fought win, and a great way to close out the weekend. Sure, it cost me a lot of good men — but their sacrifice was for the Greater Good.

Event Summary – My First GT (and First Super Major!)

And just like that — the Manchester GT came to a close. Five games. Two days. One wild ride.

This wasn’t just my first GT; it was my first Super Major. Out of 339 players, I managed to finish 64th overall — and honestly, I’m still buzzing from it. I came into this event just hoping to win a game or two, get some experience, and have a laugh with the lads. What I walked away with was so much more.

I learned a ton about high-level play — how to manage a clock, how to play under pressure, how to adapt mid-game when things aren’t going your way. I learned where my list sings, where it stumbles, and what pieces I want to tweak going forward. I even learned how to hold my ground when something doesn’t sit right. That alone was worth the price of admission.

But more than that — I had an absolute blast. The energy in the hall, the mix of armies everywhere you looked, the buzz between rounds, the war stories swapped over lunch — it was pure hobby joy. There’s something amazing about being surrounded by hundreds of people who are just as nerdy and passionate about tiny plastic soldiers as you are. It hits different.

Huge love to my two mates Edd and Hodgy who came with me for this crazy ride. I was the newcomer of the trio, but somehow ended up placing the highest — a running joke now, and a badge of honour I’ll wear until the next event comes around. Couldn’t have done it without their support, laughs, and mid-game snack runs.

I came in a student of the game. I left with a win record, new friends, new scars, and a head full of plans for the next event. The Fire Caste burned bright this weekend — and we’re only just getting started.

Game 1 – A Hard-Fought Draw (84-84)

Mission: Terraform & Swift Action

Deployment: Dawn of War

My first game was an absolute slugfest, ending in a rare 84-84 tie. I faced a Genestealer Cults army running the Broodsurge Detachment, packed with Aberrants ready to rip through my lines. I opted for Assassination and Storm Hostile Objective, knowing my opponent wouldn’t want to keep their key characters hidden. Choosing fixed secondaries felt like the right move, as it meant I could focus on systematically eliminating key threats without worrying about shifting objectives. With so many characters in my opponent’s list, Assassination gave me a reliable scoring path, and with his aggressive playstyle, I knew he’d be throwing units onto objectives—making Storm Hostile Objective a strong way to score consistently.

Right from the start, my Crisis Fireknife Team was forced into a reactive role, gunning down key threats as waves of Aberrants and Neophytes flooded the board. Meanwhile, my Firesight Team, benefiting from Precision of the Patient Hunter, eliminated a key Genestealer Cult Magus early on, reducing my opponent's ability to manipulate the battlefield. My Stealth Team provided crucial spotting for long-range firepower, allowing my Broadsides to take down a key Primus before it could coordinate another ambush. The game became a war of attrition, with my Riptide holding firm in the center, tanking an incredible amount of fire before finally being overwhelmed by sheer numbers.

The final turns came down to primary points—both of us scrambling for last-minute holds. In the end, neither of us could pull ahead, making for an intense but evenly matched start to the event. A draw felt fair, but I couldn’t help but think that a slightly more aggressive push earlier on might have tipped the scales.

Game 2 - A Close Victory (89-83)

Mission: Smoke & Mirrors & Purge the Foe

Deployment: Dawn of War

Game two was another tight battle, this time against an Aeldari army running a Warhost Detachment, with a heavy focus on infantry. I chose to go Tactical for secondaries, adapting to the shifting battlefield, which turned out to be a strong decision.

Early on, my Stealth Team marked enemy movements, allowing my Broadsides to unleash devastating volleys that severely crippled a key squad of Warp Spiders. However, my opponent struck back hard, using Fire Prisms to chip away at my forces and movement bonuses from their detachment and army rule to ensure key damage landed.

Midway through, my opponent made a strong push on my left flank, but my Breacher Team pulled off a surprising counter-charge, tying up their advance just long enough for my Coldstar Commander to swoop in and wipe out a unit of Howling Banshees. In the final turns, I leaned on my mobility to contest objectives, and with some last-minute repositioning, I managed to pull ahead for an 89-83 victory.

Game 3 – A Strong Finish to Day One (90-79)

Mission: Hidden Supplies & Take and Hold

Deployment: Search and Destroy

The final game of day one saw me take a solid 90-79 victory against a Chaos Daemons army running the Demonic Incursion Detachment, featuring Be’lakor and Shalaxi Helbane. With Hidden Supplies in play, the extra objectives meant more opportunities to score, and I capitalized on them well.

My Coldstar Commander, enhanced with Exemplar of the Kauyon, spearheaded a surgical strike, eliminating Skarbrand in a devastating fusillade of Fusion Blasters, with Exemplar of the Kauyon allowing my Detachment ability to activate early, ensuring maximum efficiency in my strike, clearing a major threat from the board early on. Bloodletters were still a presence on the battlefield, but without their demonic champion leading them, their assault lost momentum. Meanwhile, my Piranha flanked around the board, harassing enemy backline units and denying objectives. The absolute highlight of the game came when Shalaxi Helbane charged my Riptide—and it didn’t take a single scratch! It withstood the Greater Daemon’s onslaught and continued fighting, only to later be taken down in melee by Be’lakor. However, in a final act of defiance, the Riptide exploded upon death, taking Be’lakor with it! A true legend of the Greater Good.

By the final turn, I had established a strong lead and closed the game with a decisive win. My mobility and firepower had allowed me to control the pace, preventing the Daemons from overwhelming me with sheer numbers.

End-of-Day Reflections

Going undefeated on day one was a huge achievement, but it also meant the road ahead would be even tougher. Climbing the rankings meant I would be facing some of the best players at the event, and every mistake would be punished more harshly. I knew day two would be filled with tighter games where every move, every secondary choice, and every dice roll could be the difference between victory and defeat. The challenge was ahead of me, but I was ready to take it on and push my T’au to their limits.

With a 2-0-1 record at the end of day one, I was feeling confident heading into day two. My list had performed well, with Crisis Suits and Broadsides proving their worth time and time again. The Riptide, while sometimes taking early pressure, still managed to have a big impact when it was allowed to fire freely.

I had some tactical adjustments in mind for day two—perhaps playing a little more aggressively in the early turns and leveraging my mobility even more effectively. But overall, I was happy with how the games had gone so far.

Why XV25 Stealth Battlesuits?

 Elite Spotters. These suits are a brilliant addition to my army, not just for their stealth capabilities but also for their essential role as spotters. Their advanced sensor systems allow them to mark enemy targets, granting reroll ones to hit and wound for guided units. This makes them invaluable for setting up precise and devastating strikes. Whether it's calling in railgun shots or ensuring Crisis Suits land their volleys, their battlefield role cannot be overstated.

XV88 Broadside Battlesuits

While the XV88 Broadside Battlesuits are still with the commission painter, I'm eagerly anticipating their arrival. These units are known for their heavy firepower, equipped with heavy rail rifles or high-yield missile pods, making them formidable against armored threats. Their role in establishing a strong defensive line is crucial, often serving as the backbone of the army's firepower.

Strategically, Broadsides are most effective when positioned to maximize their line of sight while remaining protected. Their synergy with markerlight support enhances their accuracy, making them a consistent threat to enemy armor and monstrous creatures. As highlighted in tactical reviews, "Broadsides exemplify the type of firepower that T'au are best at—the sheer weight of dice from mid-strength, medium-range guns."

The commissioned Broadsides are being painted by Rogue Miniatures to match the cohesive theme of my army, with attention to detail that brings out the intricacies of their design. I look forward to showcasing their completed forms once they arrive.

Detachment Rules

Targeting Triangulation (Aura): My Kroot Carnivores and other units now project an aura that increases the Armour Penetration (AP) of ranged attacks made by friendly T'au Empire models (excluding Kroot, Vespid, and Titanic units) by 1 when targeting enemies within 9" of them. This allows my Kroot units to act as forward scouts, marking targets for devastating follow-up fire from the rest of my army.

Localised Stealth Projectors (Aura): My T'au Empire units shield nearby Kroot units, including my Carnivores and War Shaper, from being targeted by enemy ranged attacks over 18" away. This adds a layer of survivability to my Kroot forces, letting them safely position themselves to control the midfield.

Enhancements

Student of Kauyon: My Kroot Shaper can grant Deep Strike to up to three of my Kroot units, including my Carnivores. This ability lets them deploy into advantageous positions, perfect for ambushing backline units or seizing objectives.

Fanatical Convert: Granting "For the Greater Good" to one of my Kroot units, such as my Carnivores, enhances their overwatch capabilities, making them reliable defenders of key objectives.

Admired Leader: Boosting the Leadership and Objective Control of my Kroot War Shaper ensures that my frontline Kroot units can hold their ground effectively under pressure.

Transponder Lock Module: By leveraging my Kroot’s positioning, I can strategically deploy T'au walkers, such as Piranhas or Broadsides, into critical areas of the battlefield.

With their enhanced AP from "Targeting Triangulation," they can soften up key enemy units for follow-up fire from my Broadsides or Fireknife Crisis Suits. The War Shaper adds durability and melee strength, making this unit a resilient force for holding objectives or contesting critical areas. Using Student of Kauyon to Deep Strike them into ideal positions ensures they’re always a threat.

Flesh Shaper and Kroot Hounds:

My Flesh Shaper’s healing and buffing abilities keep my Kroot Hounds and Carnivores in the fight longer. The Hounds, with their incredible mobility, become even more dangerous with Alien Expertise, allowing them to charge after advancing. Together, they form a fast-moving harassment force that can disrupt enemy plans while staying supported by the Flesh Shaper.

Kroot Shaper:

My Kroot Shaper ties everything together, acting as a force multiplier. With Admired Leader, they bolster the leadership and objective-holding capacity of nearby units, ensuring my Kroot Carnivores and War Shaper can hold their ground when the battle heats up.

Leveraging My Kroot Force

Under the Auxiliary Cadre detachment, my army operates as a cohesive ecosystem. My Kroot units provide disruption, mobility, and target marking, while my T'au core forces capitalize on these opportunities for devastating firepower. The synergy between my Kroot and T'au models has never been stronger, creating a dynamic and rewarding playstyle.

So, why hounds?

Kroot Hounds are designed to be fast, aggressive, and disruptive, making them a fantastic complement to the Kroot Carnivores and the Lone Spear character from my army. Their role is to engage enemies quickly, disrupt formations, and create opportunities for other units to capitalize.

Here’s how they mesh seamlessly with your other Kroot forces:

With Kroot Carnivores: The Hounds serve as an ideal vanguard unit for the Carnivores. They can advance rapidly and tie up enemy units, harassing and softening them for the Carnivores to follow up. This synergy allows the Carnivores to strike harder and more effectively while keeping the pressure on the opponent. It also provides a layered assault, with the Hounds leading the charge and the Carnivores acting as a second wave to consolidate and dominate objectives.

With the Kroot Lone Spear: The Lone Spear acts as a force multiplier for the Kroot Hounds. As a character unit, it enhances the Hounds' effectiveness by increasing their Objective Control capability and providing additional support with its own scouting and shooting abilities. The Lone Spear can create openings and apply pressure to key targets, allowing the Hounds and Carnivores to operate more effectively and secure crucial areas of the battlefield.


Abilities and Synergy

Loping Pounce (Kroot Hounds): This ability allows the Hounds to declare a charge even if they advanced, provided they’re within 6" of a friendly Kroot Infantry unit, such as the Carnivores. This enables a swift and flexible assault, catching opponents off-guard and locking down valuable units. With this speed and aggression, the Carnivores can then follow up and reinforce the assault, adding a significant melee threat.


Hunting Hounds (Kroot Hounds): When within 12" of a Kroot Character like the Lone Spear, the Hounds gain Objective Control, making them more effective at holding key points. The Lone Spear’s presence not only buffs the Hounds' ability to contest objectives but also contributes to your overall tactical options, offering precision attacks and critical support.

The Overall Strategy

Together, the Kroot Hounds, Kroot Carnivores, and the Lone Spear create a fast, adaptable, and aggressive strike force. The Hounds excel at disrupting enemy plans and taking objectives, while the Carnivores bring durability and melee prowess to solidify board control. The Lone Spear enhances this synergy, providing buffs and additional threat potential.

This phase of the Kroot expansion promises to add both visual and tactical depth to my T’au army, bringing a savage edge to the precision of the Greater Good. I’m excited to see how these units perform in the heat of battle—stay tuned for more updates and action!

Game four was a hard-fought battle against Ewan’s Thousand Sons. We played the Take and Hold mission on the Pariah Nexus mission deck, using Hammer and Anvil deployment. I relied heavily on the Kauyon strategy once again, playing a patient game to maximize my army's firepower in the mid-game.

Key Moment:
A turning point came when my Stormsurge obliterated Ewan’s Knight Lancer in one devastating volley. This was crucial, as it allowed me to swing the momentum and press forward onto key objectives.

Strategic Execution:
Primary Objective Control: I managed to score 45/50 points on the Take and Hold mission by dominating the mid-board during turns 3-5. My Crisis Fireknife Team and Broadsides secured important objectives and denied Ewan the ability to score.

Denying Ewan’s Objectives: A critical play was deep striking my Sunforge Crisis Team onto an objective, preventing Ewan from scoring Storm Hostile Objective and Secure No Man’s Land. This maneuver was vital in maintaining my lead.

Unit Highlights:

The Stormsurge not only destroyed the Knight Lancer but also provided covering fire, which allowed my forces to maneuver freely.

The Crisis Fireknife Team performed exceptionally well, taking down elite units while securing objectives throughout the mid-game.

The game ended with a 95-82 victory. By denying Ewan key points on primary and secondary objectives, I was able to hold onto my lead and secure the win.

Game 5: T'au (Konnor) vs. Astra Militarum (Rich) – Defeat 43-92

Game five was my toughest battle of the tournament, going up against Rich’s Astra Militarum. The mission was Supply Drop with Dawn of War deployment, and this game turned into an uphill fight from the very first turn.

Key Moment:
My Stormsurge was eliminated on turn 1 by a barrage from four Leman Russ Tanks, severely crippling my firepower and making it difficult to contest objectives for the rest of the game.

Strategic Challenges:

Primary Objective Struggles: Rich’s aggressive playstyle kept me off the primary objectives for the majority of the game. I was only able to score 10 points on the primary mission, which ultimately made it hard to catch up.

Counterattack with Broadsides: Despite the loss of the Stormsurge, my Broadsides launched a powerful counterpunch, taking out three Leman Russ Tanks and two Rogal Dorns. However, Rich’s early board control meant that I couldn’t regain the critical left-side objective, which was worth 15 points in turn 5, costing me the game.

Missed Secret Mission: 

 I also made a crucial error in forgetting to use a secret mission, which could have made a difference in the scoreline.

Despite my best efforts and a strong counterattack, the game ended in a 43-92 loss.

Event Overview and Final Positioning
After five intense games over the course of two days, I finished the tournament in 6th place out of 32 players—a result I’m proud of given the strong competition. The tournament was a fantastic experience, filled with learning opportunities and some incredible games against great opponents.

One of the biggest highlights of the event was the amazing team at Tabletop Tactics. It was awesome to meet The Spider, Jinx, and Stigg in person, and getting a tour of the Tabletop Tactics Studio was an unforgettable experience. The whole team was fantastic, and it was a great opportunity to see the behind-the-scenes magic.

Key Takeaways:
Kauyon Strategy: The Kauyon strategy worked brilliantly in most of my games, especially in Game 4, where I was able to control the flow of the battle and secure key objectives in the mid-game.

Early Game Adjustments: Game 5 showed the importance of early board control. Losing the Stormsurge so early on highlighted my army’s vulnerability when facing aggressive, high-damage lists. Moving forward, I’ll be adjusting my list to include more tools for contesting early objectives and dealing with heavy firepower from the start.

Memorable Moments:

Meeting and playing against some fantastic opponents throughout the event. I had a great time engaging with the Warhammer community and learning from each game.

Catching up with some familiar faces and sharing stories about the tournament’s highlights.

Overall, the event was a success, and I’m excited to take the lessons learned and apply them to my future games. Placing 6th in such a competitive field was an awesome feeling, and I can’t wait to continue refining my T’au list for the next tournament.

Game 1 – T’au (Kauyon) vs. Grey Knights (Teleport Strike Force)

Result: Defeat – 56 - 61

Opponent: Sam (Grey Knights - Teleport Strike Force)
Mission: Pariah Nexus (Search and Destroy, Rapid Escalation)


The tournament kicked off with a tough match against Sam’s Grey Knights. His Teleport Strike Force gave me a lot of trouble, constantly repositioning to threaten my objectives. Despite my best efforts, the game ended in a narrow defeat, with a final score of 61 to 56.

Key Moments

Ghostkeel and Riptide Losses: I drew Sabotage in Turn 1 and positioned my Ghostkeel on the No Man’s Land objective, but it was quickly destroyed. In Turn 2, I attempted to complete Sabotage again with my Riptide, but it also fell. Missing out on two turns of secondary points was a major blow.

Crisis Fireknife Team: My Crisis Fireknife Team performed admirably, targeting Sam’s elite units. Unfortunately, without my Ghostkeel and Riptide, they were outnumbered and overwhelmed by the Grey Knights' teleportation and melee threats.

Final Thoughts

This was a hard-fought game, but the loss of key units like the Ghostkeel and Riptide left me in a tough spot. Sam’s Grey Knights excelled at board control, making it difficult for me to keep up on secondary objectives. It was a narrow loss, but a good learning experience heading into Game 2.

Game 2 – T’au (Kauyon) vs. Thousand Sons (Cult of Magic)

Result: Victory – 82 - 78
Opponent: Sven (Thousand Sons - Cult of Magic)
Mission: Pariah Nexus (Sweeping Engagement, Swift Action)

After the loss in Game 1, I came into Game 2 ready to adapt. This time, I faced Sven’s Thousand Sons, a psychic powerhouse. It was an incredibly close game, but I managed to pull off a win, securing a victory with a score of 82 to 78.

Key Units and Plays

Stormsurge: My Stormsurge was the key to victory, holding down the mid-board with its Pulse Blastcannon and Missile Pods. It absorbed a tremendous amount of damage, allowing me to control the battlefield and score on critical objectives.

Stealth Teams: My Stealth Teams were pivotal in spotting and guiding my units, especially against Sven’s psychic weapons. Their role in helping me focus firepower on key targets helped me stay in the game despite Sven’s use of Cabal Points.

Vespid: My Vespid proved their worth again by securing objectives and scoring points, particularly on Behind Enemy Lines.

Final Thoughts

This was a very close game, but my Stormsurge and Stealth Teams played crucial roles in securing the victory. I was able to overcome Sven’s psychic pressure by focusing on physical firepower and mobility. After the loss in Game 1, this win was a great morale boost heading into Game 3.

 Game 3 – T’au (Kauyon) vs. Space Marines (Gladius Task Force)

Result: Victory – 90 - 85
Opponent: Rick (Space Marines - Gladius Task Force)
Mission: Pariah Nexus (Hammer and Anvil, Smoke and Mirrors)

The final game of Day 1 was a close battle against Rick’s Space Marines. His Gladius Task Force packed a punch with Bladeguard Veterans, a Ballistus Dreadnought, and an Aggressor squad led by Marneus Calgar. In the end, I secured a narrow victory with a score of 90 to 85.

Key Units and Plays

Stormsurge: My Stormsurge was a tank, soaking up damage while taking out Rick’s Bladeguard Veterans and their Lieutenant. It was eventually brought down by Rick’s Aggressor squad, supported by Marneus Calgar, but not before turning the tide of the battle in my favor.

Remaining Broadside: Despite losing one Broadside early, the remaining Broadside delivered a clutch railgun shot that took down Rick’s Ballistus Dreadnought, neutralizing a major threat.

Ghostkeel: In Turn 4, my Ghostkeel snuck in and captured Rick’s home objective, denying him key points and securing my victory.

Final Thoughts

This game was incredibly tight, but my Stormsurge and Broadside did serious work, and the Ghostkeel’s late-game objective grab sealed the win. It was a satisfying conclusion to a day of intense battles, leaving me with two wins and one loss by the end of Day 1.

Overview of Day 1

Day 1 of the tournament was a rollercoaster of emotions and tactical challenges. I faced a variety of strong opponents, from the mobile Grey Knights to the psychic Thousand Sons, and finally the resilient Space Marines.

Game 1 was a tough loss to the Grey Knights, where early losses of key units like the Ghostkeel and Riptide hampered my ability to keep up with secondary objectives.

Game 2 against the Thousand Sons was a close win, where my Stormsurge and Stealth Teams helped me counter their psychic threats and secure the victory through sheer firepower and mobility.

Game 3 was another close victory, with my Stormsurge holding the mid-board and absorbing a ton of damage. The Broadside’s railgun shot taking out the Ballistus Dreadnought and the Ghostkeel’s game-winning capture of Rick’s home objective were standout moments.

In the end, I finished Day 1 with two wins and one loss, feeling confident and ready for whatever Day 2 would bring. Each game taught me something new about how to adapt my Kauyon strategy and use my army’s strengths to their fullest

Why I Chose T'au and This List

The T’au Empire is known for its advanced technology, precise firepower, and mobile tactics, which naturally appeals to my playstyle. I enjoy the idea of having an army that can dictate the flow of the battle through long-range superiority and careful positioning. The theme of my army revolves around the Kauyon philosophy—patiently waiting, then striking with overwhelming force at the right moment.

I also wanted to field some of my favorite T’au models. Units like the Riptide, Ghostkeel, and the massive Stormsurge are not only centerpieces on the battlefield but pack serious punch, which adds to the fun factor. At the same time, I’ve included units like Crisis Battlesuits and Stealth Battlesuits for their versatility and tactical flexibility.

Strengths of the Army

Big, Heavy-Hitting Units
The Stormsurge and Riptide Battlesuit are absolute beasts in this list. The Stormsurge brings an incredible amount of firepower to the table, especially with the Pulse Blast Cannon and Destroyer Missiles, which can shred through enemy armor and elite units. Meanwhile, the Riptide with its Ion Accelerator and Twin Fusion Blasters can deal massive damage to a variety of targets, from infantry to vehicles.

Kauyon Tactics
My list is built around Kauyon, which rewards patient play and well-timed aggression. Units like the Stealth Battlesuits and Ghostkeel Battlesuit will help me lay the groundwork, positioning them in key areas to harass the enemy early on while setting up devastating counter-attacks when the time is right.

Versatility with Crisis Suits
Both Crisis Sunforge Battlesuit units are armed with Fusion Blasters, making them ideal for getting into close range and taking out high-value targets like vehicles and monsters. The drones attached to these units give them added survivability, and I can use them flexibly based on how the battle unfolds. Their mobility also means I can apply pressure wherever it’s most needed.

Board Control with Breacher Teams
The Breacher Teams bring numbers to the list and can hold objectives while delivering a surprisingly strong punch at close range with their Pulse Blasters. They’re not the toughest units in the game, but their sheer volume of fire, especially in cover or near drones, will help them hold the line and score points.

Drones for Support and Survivability
I’ve packed in plenty of drones throughout the list, from Shield Drones to Gun Drones, which will help me protect my more fragile units or keep my Crisis Suits alive longer. The drones add a layer of durability that will be vital in maintaining momentum during the mid game.

Weaknesses of the Army

 Close Combat Vulnerability
Like most T’au lists, close combat is a major weakness for my army. Outside of a few units like the Krootox Rampagers and Commander Farsight with his Dawn Blade, most of my units will struggle if the enemy closes in for melee. I’ll need to rely heavily on my firepower and positioning to prevent fast-moving or deep-striking enemy units from getting too close.

Limited Objective Securing
With only two Breacher Teams making up my battleline, I’ll have to be cautious about spreading them too thin. While they pack a punch, they aren’t the toughest infantry units around, so I’ll need to balance holding objectives with keeping them alive long enough to do so. My other units are more specialized and lack Objective Secured, which could make certain missions a bit tricky.

Reliance on Kauyon Timing
Since this army leans into the Kauyon philosophy, I’ll have to be careful about when I commit to the battle. If I strike too early, I risk overexposing key units. On the flip side, if I wait too long, I could miss my opportunity to swing the battle in my favor. It’s a delicate balance, and I’ll need to stay patient and seize the right moments to engage.

How I Think It Will Match Up

Against more casual armies, I think this list will shine. The sheer volume of firepower, combined with mobility and board control, should give me the ability to take down most threats while staying flexible in my movements. My Stormsurge will draw a lot of attention, but that’s part of the plan—it’s a distraction that allows my Crisis Suits and other units to position for critical strikes.

Against more competitive armies, I’ll need to be cautious. My limited battleline units and the army’s vulnerability to melee mean I could be overwhelmed by armies that focus heavily on board control or close combat. However, the T’au’s strength lies in precision, so if I can pick apart key enemy units before they get too close, I’ll have a fighting chance.

Overall, I’m not expecting to dominate every game, but I’m confident that my army will be a blast to play at the Tabletop Tactics event. The mix of units and the theme of Kauyon will allow me to adapt to various opponents while staying true to the fun, tactical gameplay that drew me to the T’au Empire in the first place. This event is more about enjoying the game, and with this list, I’m sure to have some memorable moments on the battlefield!

Welcome to the very first episode of our Tau Battle Report blog!. I’ll share detailed battle reports that capture the excitement of our encounters. From the thrill of facing off against various opponents to the logic and tactics that go into every decision, I hope to provide a glimpse into what it’s like to lead the Tau in their quest for the Greater Good.

I started out when I was 13 with lord of the rings and now, with more time and resources as an adult, I've immersed myself in the competitive Warhammer 40k scene, particularly with 10th Edition, which I believe to be the best edition so far due to its streamlined rules and balanced gameplay.

My main faction is the Tau Empire, a choice driven by my love for their "good guy" ethos—the Greater Good philosophy really resonates with me. I enjoy their playstyle, with a focus on precision firepower and synergy on the battlefield. The tactical depth they offer has always been a huge draw for me, and I take pride in mastering their strategy, whether it's devastating long-range shooting or efficient movement around objectives.

I’ve competed in over five events so far and am currently a part of a competitive 40k league with my local wargaming club. Recently, I achieved a major milestone by winning my first event at Tabletop Tactics, a huge boost in my confidence and skill as a player. This victory has fueled my ambition to push further in the competitive scene and hone my skills at the highest level.
