The Schwarzman Scholars program is an elite, fully-funded fellowship designed to build a bridge between the world’s future leaders and China. Organized by the Schwarzman Scholars foundation in partnership with Tsinghua University, this initiative selects a diverse cohort of up to 200 scholars annually to pursue a one-year Master’s degree in Beijing.

5. Annual Application Process

The application is entirely digital and typically follows this sequence every year:

1. Online Portal: Applicants register and complete sections on personal history, professional experience, and academic records.
2. Essays: Two mandatory pieces—a Leadership Essay (750 words) and a Statement of Purpose (500 words).
3. Recommendations: Three letters that specifically address leadership and academic prowess.
4. Video Intro: A 60-second video introduction (highly recommended).
5. Interviews: A select group of finalists is invited for interviews with international panels (conducted in the fall for global applicants and early summer for Chinese applicants).
