TRON Grid Photoshop Tutorial

We used the highest resolution (unscaled) images available to write thistutorial. If you would like to follow this tutorial using the same settings we used, download the highest resolution (unscaled) images available.

IMPORTANT: When working with any image in Photoshop, always play things on the cautious side and make new layers for everything. This way, if you make a mistake, you won't have to start all over, but you might just have to re-do one layer, possibly saving you hours of work. Everything in thistutorial should be done on separate layers.

Step 1 - Create a new Document

Create a new document. 1920px in width and 1200px in height. This is a standard large wallpaper size.

Step 2 - Invert it to black

Press (control/command + I) to invert the white to black.

Step 3 - Open the image of the Mountain

Load the image of the mountain into Photoshop. To do this, choose File > Open, browse for the file, then click OK. Before you do any selecting, scale down the image (Image > Image Size...) to a 1920px width, and let the height auto adjust to match. For thistutorial , I didn't want to use the whole image, but instead, about only half of it (600px in height). So, in the picture below, you can see that I selected a portion of the mountain that I wanted using the marquee tool.

Step 4 - Put the mountains in the new document

Alright, so with that portion of the mountains selected, copy it (control/command + C) and paste it into your new document. You're going to want it in the upper half of the document, so this is super easy if you turn on your photoshop grid, and you can let Photoshop snap the mountains above the 600px mark for height.

Step 5 - Turn off Grid / Name Layer

Turn off the grid. Name this layer "mountain".

Step 6 - Darken Mountains

Go to Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast and put the brightness to the lowest setting, and the contrast to the highest setting.

Step 7 - Duplicate Layer

The quickest way to do this is to type (control/command + J). The new layer will be called mountain copy.

Step 8 - Flip the Mountains upside down

Press (control/command + T). This will allow you to left click (with your mouse) and select "Flip Vertical". The following images are a before and after.

Step 9 - Move the Mountains to the bottom

If you are still in the control/command + T view, then you will be able to click and drag the flipped mountains to the bottom of the document, and they should snap when you get it to the right spot. Click enter to exit this mode when you're done moving it.

Step 10 - Create a Mask

In your layers menu, select the 3rd button to the right (the white circle inside a gray rectangle icon) to create a mask, and using your gradient tool, create a black to transparent gradient from the bottom of the document to about 600px (the midline where the two mountain halves mirror each other.)

Step 12 - Checkpoint

If you've done your mask correctly, you will have arrived at something like this.

Step 13 - Add some Blue

Create a new Layer (Layer > New > Layer). Select the bottom of the document. A good way to do this is quickly and accurately is to select the "mountain copy" layer because you know that it is half of the screen. To do this, go into your layers palette, select the layer "mountain copy" (control/command + click on the icon for the layer "mountain copy").
Note: If you cannot seem to select the layer by clicking on it, you are probably clicking the wrong thing. To the left of the layer name, there is a small icon of the layer. You should control/command + click on that image, not the text itself.
Select a blue for your foreground (I choose #216a82) and black for your background, and create a gradient. Set the opacity for this layer to 50%.

Step 14 - Lens Flare

Create another new layer (Layer > New > Layer), and call it "lens flare". Fill this layer with black using the fill tool (G), and then head up to Filters > Render > Lens Flare. Select 105mm Prime, and leave the brightness at 100%. Then center the lens flare as best you can (if you miss the center you can always undo and try again, or just move it using the move (V) tool)0.

Using these settings you should get this:

Step 15 - Up the Contrast

Go to Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast and move the contrast to the highest level possible.

Step 16 - Colorize

Go to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation and move the mimic the settings below.

Step 17 - Checkpoint

Just look at your layers palette and make sure that your layers are like this (order and number of layers should be the same as this). Then, set the blending mode for the layer "lens flare" to linear dodge (add).

Step 18 - Another Lens Flare

Duplicate the Layer (control/command + J) and press (control/command + T). Shrink the height and expand the width of this flare to either side (try to copy the picture below).

Step 19 - Blur It

Go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur, and apply a blur of about 7px.

Step 20 - Center It

Move the flattened and elongated lens flare up to the center line.

Step 21 - Center Gradient

Create a new layer (Layer > New > Layer), and select your gradient tool. Choose the reflected gradient option, and using a blue foreground (I used #216a82), create a foreground to transparent gradient from the center. To do this correctly, you will want to start in the center and click and drag to either the top or the bottom. When you're done, se this layer to 50% opacity.

Step 22 - Creating the Grid! -- A

Create a new layer (Layer > New > Layer), and set the background to black (this is so you can see what you're doing... DO NOT put anything on this layer in later steps besides the black color that is already there!). Press (U) and select the rounded rectangle tool. Set the radius to 50 px. Also make sure that you're on paths, not shapes.

Step 23 - Creating the Grid! -- B

Holding shift to ensure that your drawing perfect squares, create a rounded rectangle like the one below.

Step 24 - Creating the Grid! -- C

Create a new layer (Layer > New > Layer), name it "grid", and make white your foreground color. Right click in the box and select fill path.

Step 25 - Creating the Grid! -- D

You should see this. Then click (shift + H) to hide the path.

Step 26 - Creating the Grid! -- E

Select the layer contents (instructions on how to do this are on step 13)

Step 27 - Creating the Grid! -- F

Go to Select > Modify > Contract, and choose 25px. If your squares are a little smaller or larger than mine, and this doesn't look good with these settings, than adjust as necessary.

Step 28 - Creating the Grid! -- G

Click OK. Man, that was an easy step!

Step 29 - Creating the Grid! -- H

Click backspace/delete to get the middle out of there. If necessary, deselect after this. Haha, that was easy too!

Step 30 - Creating the Grid! -- I

Duplicate this layer, and move the new layer to the right. Hit (control/command + E) to merge the layers, and then repeat. Do the same in a vertical direction, until you have 3 columns and 4 rows like below. Make sure all yoursquares are on one layer when your done (but not on that black layer that we've already talked about in Letter A).

Step 31 - Move the Grid

Hit (V) and move the grid to the bottom half and center it.

Step 32 - Make a Copy

Duplicate this grid layer and turn off the visibility for now.

Step 33 - Perspective

Hit (control/command + T) and right click to perspective.

Step 34 - Perspective

Move the top corners inward slightly, and move the bottom out to either side. You only have to do this on one half of the grid, because perspective will mimic whatever you do on the other side.

Step 35 - Turn off Visibility

Hide the visibility for the black layer that we made at the start of all of this grid madness. Now that you can see again, you might want to move your grid down a bit so that it looks nice.

Step 36 - Turn on Visibility

Go to the layer "grid copy" that we turned off earlier, and turn it back on. Click (control/command + T) and shrink it (holding shift so that it doesn't get distorted) like you see below.

Step 37 - Copy It

Just like we did earlier, copy the layer "grid copy" and move it over and down (hitting control/command + E along the way to speed things up), and you will eventually get a big grid like the one below (make sure that it is all on the same layer "grid copy" at the end). Move the grid to the bottom half and center it just like before.

Step 38 - Perspective

Same as step 33 and 34, just make sure that the perspective looks the same as it does with the larger grid. You will probably have to go out wider on the bottom for this one.

Step 39 - Color

Double click on the layer "grid copy" apply the color overlay effect as seen below. When you've done this, do the same to layer "grid".

Step 40 - Opacity

Then set the opacity of both layers "grid" and "grid copy" (both blue now) to 25% opacity.

Step 41 - Text

Using a font of your choice, although I strongly recommend an outline font like I used, type either TRON, or AEVION, or whatever you want inside there, and center it.

Step 42 - Text

Go to Filter > Pixelate > Fragment.

Step 43 - Text Glow

Double click on the text layer, and set the blending options to what you see below.

Step 44 - Checkpoint

You should see something like this now.

Step 45 - Lens Flare

If you don't have one of these like I did looking back at my old layers palette, make a duplicate of the flattened lens flare ("lens flare copy"). Move it to the bottom of the text like you see below.

Step 46 - Text Reflection -- A

Duplicate the text layer. Hit (control/command + T), and right click to flip the text upside down (vertical).

Step 47 - Text Reflection -- B

Move it down like you see below, so that it looks like a reflection.

Step 48 - Text Reflection -- C

Move the reflection layer below "layer 1", or whatever layer name you have that has a blue gradient on it. Set the reflection layer's opacity to 50%.

Step 49 - Finishing Touches -- A

Go back and find your original and upright text layer. Turn on the visibility of that black layer (if you deleted it, just make another, and put it right underneath the text layer) and put it underneath the text layer. Click on the text layer in your palette, and then hit (control/command + E) to merge the layers. You should see this below:

Step 50 - Finishing Touches -- B

Set the blending mode for this layer to "linear dodge (add)". Then your text should really glow. And then you're done.

Step 51 - Conclusion

Congratulations, you've reached the end of the tutorial! I hope you understood what was going on, and enjoyed learning about this effect as much as I did teaching it. I encourage you to keep playing around with this effect, practice the techniques, and try to improve on areas here and there that you think could use improvement. PHOTOSHOP TUTORIAL : The Dancer - Dynamic Liquid Splash Effect

In this tutorial we'll create an image of a Dancer with a dynamic liquid splash effect.

Here are the few images used:

Preparing the splashes

Fire up Photoshop and open the Dancer and paint/liquid splash images that you want to use.

First the splash image. You will see that this layer is locked. let's make this a working layer by double clicking on it, and then selecting "OK" from the option box.

The layer name will be renamed from "Background" to "Layer 0".

Use the Magic Wand Tool (W) select the background of the splash, then hit delete.

Use the Lasso Tool (L) to copy (Ctrl / Cmd + C) sections of the splash that you want to use (or if you want to use the whole splash as is, just invert the selection (Ctrl + Shift + I) after you delete the background), then paste (Ctrl / Cmd + P) it onto the Dancer image.

Try to look for sections of the clothing that will go well with the "flow" of the splash.

Lower the opacity for the splash so it's alot easier to see where you're placing it.

Use the Free Transform (Ctrl / Cmd + T) and/or Warp Tool (Edit > Transform > Warp) to shape it to the creases in the clothing. Return the splash opacity to 100%.

Apply a layer mask to the paint splash and remove main unwanted areas of it with a soft brush (0% hardness), then slowly blend the paint to the crease with alternating opacities and brush sizes.

I used mainly around 30%-10%.

Applying the splashes

Now here's the tricky part where I can't pin point how or what to do specifically. It's a whole trial and error process that also needs alot of observation.

Let's change and match the colors of the splash at best, according to the colors of the Dancer's clothes, where it is positioned

There are a few ways to do this, but I found the Gradient Map Tool works better and allows more control over the tones.

First, select the Dancer layer, and sample the color of the clothing near the blending point of the splash with the Eyedropper Tool (I).

Then select the Splash layer, got to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Gradient Map.

Click "Use Previous Layer to Create Clipping Mask", click OK, and click on the gradient map box to bring out the Gradient Editor.

You will see that by default, this gradient is called "Foreground to Background". the Foreground color being the one sampled from the Dancer's clothing.

Below it is the Gradient Bar, where we will manipulate the colors using the Color Stops - The left stop coresponding with the Shadows, the right stop with the Highlights.

That being so, for the end result you might want the left Color Stop at a darker tone of that specific color compared to the one on the right.

First, change the color of the right Color Stop by clicking it then selecting "Foreground" as well in the "Stops" option box. This changes its default color to that of the left Color Stop (Sampled color). After this, the gradient name will have changed to "Custom". This is the main color template that we will start with.

Bring up the Color Picker Box by double clicking the Color Stops. While refering to your splash image, alternate between Color Stops and cycle through the Color Field for tones that best match that part of the Dancer's clothing, and also the details of the Splash.

You might also want to move the Color stops and Color Midpoint around to get a better result. Once you're happy with the result, click OK.

Click on the Splash layer and create another adjustment layer for Levels to tweak the exposure slightly, where needed.

To keep the workflow more organized, create a new group folder and place the Splash image and its adjustment layers in there, then name it accordingly.

Repeating the steps, place a few more splashes around. I named all splashes individually and and arranged the group folders into the order preferred.

Use the Layer Mask to remove any sections of the splash that are overlapping.

When it looks good enough to you, flatten the image.

Use the Stamp Tool (S) with a light opacity to further blend the splashes to the clothing.

Dodge and Burn, Highlights

We will intensify the shadows and highlights of the splashes. Other than using the Dodge and Burn Tools (O) directly on the image and damaging it's quality, let's do it the non-destructive way.

Hold down Alt / Opt and click the Create New Layer icon at the bottom of the Layers pallette.

Name the Layer "Dodge and Burn", set the layer mode to "Overlay" and also tick "Fill with Overlay-neutral color (50% gray)". Click OK and make sure that the layer is at the top.

Decide where you want them, then use a white colored brush (B) and a black colored brush to dodge and burn respectively.

Create another new layer on top and use a white brush with opacities of around 30%-10% and brush along the contours of the splash according to the direction of the light source to create glows.

If you think it's not smooth enough, you can use the Smudge Tool to soften the glow some more.

Brushes

Let's create some custom spatter brushes to give the splashes a "Burst" effect.

Open up an image of paint splatters. One with a plain background works best.

Use the Lasso Tool (L) and draw a selection around the area of the spatter that you would like to use as your brush.

Go to Edit > Define Brush Preset and give your new brush a name. Save it, and you will see the brush at the bottom of your drop down brush menu.

Create a few more different brushes, sample the color of the clothing or splash where you want to place it and click around that area. And here's the final version.

VECTOR TUTORIAL : How to Make a Colorful, Environmental Slice

This tutorial is about creating an earth slice that looks like a piece of cake. When doing such “environmental” illustrations it’s kind of hard to stop adding details. The first twenty four steps are about creating the slice and another thirteen cover the rest. The process of adding the details are covered at a quicker pace, as this is where you should add your own illustrative style. Have fun!

Step 1

Let’s begin. Create a new RGB document 900px high and 900px wide.

Step 2

Select Rounded Rectangle Tool and click in the middle of the screen. Use the following dimensions: Width of 500px, Height of 500px, Corner Radius of 50px.

Step 3

Add a rectangle using the Rectangle Tool (M) and subtract (Minus Front) it from the rounded rectangle.

Step 4

Create a wavy shape using Pen Tool (P). Select it and the shape from the previous step and Divide them (open Pathfinder window to use this action, if it’s not already opened). Press Command + Shift + G to ungroup the selection and delete the surrounding shape.

Step 5

Draw another wavy shape, select it and the upper shape from the previous step, Divide them, ungroup (Command + Shift + G) and delete the surrounding shape. Lets call the top shape “water.”

Step 6

Create a mountain-like shape using the Pen Tool (P).

Step 7

Create a copy of the “water” shape, move its top anchor points above the top point of the mountain-like shape using the Direct Selection Tool (A). Now intersect it with the mountain-like shape.

Step 8

Make a wavy shape and intersect it with the mountain-like shape. Repeat this process twice. Each wavy shape should be higher than previous.

Step 9

Make a copy of shape A and make its bottom flat. Make a copy of mountain-like shape and Unite it with shape A. Now delete the bottom line of the resulting shape.

Step 10

Draw the rest of the “ground surface” shape using the Pen Tool (P).

Step 11

Make a copy of the mountain-like shape and Bring it to Front (Command + Shift + Right Bracket Key). Make its bottom line come down and to the right. Subtract it from the “water” shape.

Step 12

Now it’s the last chance to make any changes to the “ground surface.” Make a copy of the top line of the “water” shape and of a part of “ground surface” (You will need only one anchor, but when you copy one anchor you get three of them after you paste the selection).

Step 13

Delete two anchors that you won’t need and Join the anchor that was left with the water-line anchor on the left (select both of them, Right-click > Join).

Step 14

Draw the rest of the “water surface” using the Pen Tool (P).

Step 15

Add the “sand line” and intersect it with the “ground surface.” Then subtract the “water surface” from the resulting shape. Add a small piece of sand on the front facet of the ground.

Step 16

Select the anchors of the top line of the “sand line” using the Direct Selection Tool (A) and make a copy of them. Draw the rest of the “grass” shape using the Pen Tool (P). Intersect it with a copy of the “ground surface” shape. Add a small shape depicting the grass front facet.

Step 17

Make a copy of the horizontal line of the “water surface” and add an anchor in the middle. Move this anchor down a small distance. Make this shape arched using the Convert Anchor Point Tool (Shift + C).

Create a copy of this curve, Reflect it Horizontally (Right-click > Transform > Reflect), select both of the curves, click the bottom one, on the Align window set the Distribute Spacing value to “0,” click the Vertical Distribute Space. Now unite the selected objects and adjust the height of the resulting shape. Let’s call it “water border.”

Step 18

Rename the Layer 1 to “cake.” Now it’s time to color it. Add PANTONE DS 328-1 C (dark brown) and PANTONE DS 42-1 C (brown) to your swatches palette and color the bottom shape with a gradient fill: dark brown on the left, brown on the right, angle set to 90 degrees, and the Gradient Slider at 16%.

Step 19

Color the next shape with a horizontal gradient at 50% PANTONE DS 5-1 C (yellow) on the left and 68% brown on the right.

Step 20

Fill the mountain-like shape with PANTONE DS 31-3 C (light brown). Fill the bottom wavy shape with a vertical gradient fill (light gray on the left, white on the right, angle set to -90 degrees, and a blending mode of Multiply). Apply this fill to the other two wavy shapes using Eyedropper Tool (I). Set the Opacity of the middle shape to 70% and Opacity of the top shape to 40%.

Step 21

Color the sands front facet with 95% PANTONE DS 19-4 C (sand yellow) and the grass front facet with a gradient fill: PANTONE DS 289-1 C (dark green) on the left and PANTONE DS 302-1 C (light green) on the right, angle set to 0 degrees, and the Gradient Slider at 26%. Set the grass facets blending mode to Multiply.

Step 22

Apply the grass front facets gradient fill to the grass shape using the Eyedropper Tool (I) and set the blending mode of the grass shape to Normal. Change the gradient’s angle to 67.5%. Fill the sand shape with 88% PANTONE DS 18-5 C (light sand yellow). Fill the “ground surface” with a horizontal gradient: 48% yellow on the left, 100% PANTONE DS 35-2 C (light brown) on the right, and the angle set to 0 degrees.

Step 23

Fill the “water” shape with a gradient fill: PANTONE DS 226-1 C (blue) with Opacity set to 41% on the left and PANTONE DS 232-7 C (light blue) with Opacity set to 0% and angle set to 90 degrees. Make a copy of this shape and set the Opacity of the blue color to 70% and light blue to 50%, and set the angle to 0 degrees.

Step 24

Fill the “water surface” shape with a gradient fill: 100% light blue with Opacity set to 70% on the left and 35% light blue with Opacity set to 50%, the angle should be set to 0 degrees. Fill the “water border” shape with a gradient fill: white swatch on the left with Opacity set to 65% and white swatch on the right with Opacity set to 0%, set the angle to 90 degrees.

Step 25

Create a new layer and name it “tree.” Create a “trunk” using the Rounded Rectangle Tool with a horizontal gradient fill: brown on the left and light brown on the right. Add “foliage” using the Ellipse Tool (L) with a radial gradient fill: light green on the left (Location=26%) and dark green on the right. Move the center of the gradient using the Gradient Tool (G) to the top right side of the circle.

Add a copy of this circle and move it along the diagonal to the right. Intersect it with another copy of the “foliage.” Set the gradient fill of the resulting shape to the following: white swatch on the left with Opacity set to 0% and white swatch on the right with Opacity set to 62%, set the angle to 0 degrees, Location of the Gradient Slider at 44%, and set the blending mode to Overlay.

Step 26

Copy the “trunk” and transform it using the Free Transform Tool (E), then add an ellipse using the Ellipse Tool (L). Unite them, Send to Back (Command + Shift + Left Bracket key) and set the fill to a gradient: gray on the left and white on the right with Opacity of the white swatch set to 0%, and set the angle to -150 degrees. Change the blending mode to Multiply.

Step 27

Create a small circle over the foliage and set its fill to gradient: dark green on the left and light green on the right with the Opacity of the light green swatch set to 0%, and set the angle to -135 degrees, and the Location of the Gradient Slider to 77%.

Copy this circle, make it a bit smaller, change the gradient fill Type to Radial, change the left swatch to yellow and right swatch to PANTONE DS 36-1 C (orange). Make two copies of green and orange circles and put them wherever you think is suitable on the foliage. Intersect green circles with a copy of the foliage if needed.

Step 28

Cut the shapes that form the water. Create a new “water” layer between “cake” and “tree” and paste the content inside.

Step 29

Create a new layer “fish” under the “water” layer. Draw a simple fish and color it with gradients using the colors from your Swatches window. Group the shapes forming the fish and make several copies. Adjust the size and angle of the fishes as you like. Put them under the water. You can lock the “water” layer, so it would be easier to position the fishes.

Step 30

Create a new layer “sun” above all the other layers. Add a circle using the Ellipse Tool (L) and apply the radial gradient fill with orange and yellow colors – use the Eyedropper Tool (I) to copy it from the “oranges” placed on the tree.

Make a copy of this circle and add more anchors to it with the Add Anchor Point Tool (+). This will be the “rays” shape. With the rays selected go to Effect > Distort and Transform > Pucker & Bloat. Set the percentage to -18%. Make the rays a bit bigger by holding Alt and Shift-dragging the corner of the Bounding Box. Adjust the color of the rays. It should be brighter at the edges.

Step 31

Create a new layer “treasure chest.” Select the Rounded Rectangle Tool and click on the screen. Set the parameters to: Width=120px, Height=80px and Corner Radius=10px. Create a rectangle using the Rectangle Tool (M) 10px high and align it to the top of the rounded rectangle shape. Press Enter, set the Position to Horizontal:0 and Vertical:-10px and press Copy. Press Command + D seven times to repeat this process.

Unite the two top shapes. Intersect the rectangles with the copies of the rounded rectangle. Send the rounded rectangle to front (Command + Shift + Right Bracket key). Color the shapes with the gradient fill: dark brown on the left, brown on the right, angle set to 90 degrees, and Gradient Slider at 16%. Change the gradient fill of the big rounded rectangle shape to the following: dark brown on the left with Opacity set to 56% and Location set to 16%, brown on the right with Opacity set to 0% , Location of Gradient Slider should be set to 50%, and set the angle to 32 degrees. Group the shapes forming the chest.

Step 32

Select the Rounded Rectangle Tool and click on the screen. Set the parameters to: Width=20px, Height=20px and Corner Radius=3px. Color it with a gradient fill with gray colors of your choice.

Add a small circle with the stroke Weight set to 3pt. Go to Object > Path > Outline Stroke, then Send this shape to back (Command + Shift + Left Bracket key). Create a primitive keyhole, color it dark gray and align all three lock shapes using Horizontal Align Center.

Group them and go to Effect > Stylize > Drop Shadow. Set the parameters to: Mode of Multiply, Opacity at 75%, X Offset of 0px, Y Offset of 0px, Blur at 3px, Color of Black or dark gray. Place the lock over the chest and add a small black rectangle.

Step 33

Add a 10pt stroke to the chests big rounded rectangle, then go to Object > Path > Outline Stroke. Change the fill to a Linear Gradient: PANTONE DS 31-3 C on the left and 74% dark brown on the right. Send this shape to the back of the group (Command + Shift + Left Bracket key).

Group the chest, the lock and the small black rectangle, adjust the size of the group and its angle. Now place it somewhere on the top of the ground front facet. Copy the outlined stroke, Right-click > Release Compound Path, delete the inner rounded rectangle and subtract a wavy shape from the one that is left. Select the resulting shape and the chest, Right-click > Make Clipping Mask. Change the angle of the chest’s transparent rounded rectangle to 103 degrees.

Step 34

Add a new layer “skulls.” Create a simple human skull shape and color it with gradient a fill. The colors should be light gray and pale yellow. Select the skull, go to Effect > Stylize > Drop Shadow. Set the parameters to: Mode of Multiply, Opacity at 75%, X Offset of 0px, Y Offset of 0px, Blur of 2px, Color of gray. Place a few skulls around the treasure chest.

Step 35

Add a new layer “dinosaur bones.” Draw a dinosaur skull and bones using the Pen Tool (P). Change their fill to one similar to humans skulls.

Step 36

To make the texture of the ground front facet more detailed go to the “cake” layer and add some circles with dark brown gradient fills all over the yellowish slice of soil. One of these circles can work as the dinosaurs eye.

Step 37

Create new layer “birds” and make a primitive bird. Color it green and make a few copies of it. Adjust their angle and size. You can change the Opacity of the small birds to a smaller amount, so the will look remote.

Final Image

Step 1: Duplicate The Background Layer

With our photo newly opened in Photoshop, the first thing we need to do is duplicate the Background layer. This is to avoid doing any damage to our original image. If we look in the Layers palette, we can see that our photo is sitting all by itself on the Background layer:

Let's duplicate this layer by going up to the Layer menu at the top of the screen, choosing New, and then choosing Layer via Copy. Or, for a faster way, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+J (Win) / Command+J (Mac):

Photoshop Photo Effects: Go to Layer > New > Layer via Copy, or press "Ctrl+J" (Win) / "Command+J (Mac)".

Either way tells Photoshop to create a copy of the Background layer for us, and if we look again in our Layers palette, we can see that we now have a copied version of the layer, which Photoshop has named "Layer 1", sitting above the original:

Step 2: Select The Main Subject Of Your Photo

Use the selection tool of your choice (Lasso Tool, Pen Tool, etc.) to draw a selection around the main subject of your photo. For clean, professional looking selections, the Pen Tool is your best bet (if you're not sure how to use the Pen Tool, you'll find everything you need to know to get up and running with it in our Making Selections With The Pen Tool tutorial), but the Lasso Tool will also work. In my case, I want to select the soccer player (or football player, depending on where you live), as well as the ball that he's about to kick, so I'll select both of them. When you're done, you should have a selection outline visible around your main subject(s):

Step 3: Copy The Selection To A New Layer

We need to copy the selected area to its own layer so we can work on it separately from the rest of the image. We can do that using the exact same method we used to duplicate the Background layer a moment ago except that this time, only the area inside our selection will be duplicated, not the entire image. Go back up to the Layer menu at the top of the screen, choose New and then choose Layer via Copy, or press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+J (Win) / Command+J (Mac). Nothing will seem to have happened to the image in the document window, but if we look in the Layers palette, we can see that we now have a new layer named "Layer 2" sitting above "Layer 1", and if we look in the preview thumbnail for "Layer 2", we can see that the layer contains a copy of the main subject, while the rest of the layer is blank, indicated by the gray checkerboard pattern:

Step 4: Apply A Stroke Layer Style

To place an outline around our main subject(s), we can use Photoshop's layer styles. Click on the Layer Styles icon at the bottom of the Layers palette, which will pop up a list of all the available layer styles that we have to choose from. Select the Stroke layer style from the bottom of the list:

This brings up the Layer Style dialog box set to the Stroke options in the middle column. By default, the stroke color is set to red. Let's change it to white. Click on the color swatch to the right of the word "Color":

This brings up Photoshop's Color Picker. Select white from the Color Picker. An easy way to select white is to simply enter a value of 255 into the R, G and B options near the bottom center of the dialog box. Click OK when you're done to exit out of the Color Picker:

With the color of the stroke now set to white, let's adjust the width of the stroke. We can do that using the Size slider at the top of the Stroke options. The actual size you choose will depend on the size of the image you're working with and how large you want your stroke to appear, so keep an eye on your photo in the document window as you drag the Size slider to increase or decrease the stroke width. Dragging the slider to the right increases the stroke's width, while dragging to the left decreases it. For my image, I'm going to go with a stroke size of 4 px (pixels):

Don't click out of the dialog box just yet. We still have one more layer style to add. You should now have a white stroke around the main subject(s) in your photo:

Step 5: Add An Outer Glow Layer Style

Let's add a bit more interest to our outline effect by applying an Outer Glow layer style as well. With the Layer Style dialog box still open, click directly on the words Outer Glow on the left of the dialog box. Make sure you click directly on the words themselves, not just inside the checkbox to the left of the words. We want to be able to change some options for the layer style, and the only way to gain access to the options is by clicking directly on the layer style's name:

This changes the middle column of the Layer Style dialog box to the options for the Outer Glow. By default, the color of the glow is set to yellow, which I think works fine with this effect so I'm going to leave it alone. Increase the Opacity of the outer glow to 100%. Then, down in the Elements section of the options, increase the Spread to around 6% and the Size to around 30 px:

You may need to experiment a bit on your own with these settings depending on the size of your image, but when you're done, your outline effect should look something like this:

Click OK to exit out of the Layer Style dialog box at this point. We're done applying our layer styles.

Step 6: Boost The Color Of The Main Subject With A "Hue/Saturation" Adjustment Layer

The main outline effect is now complete, but let's enhance our image even more with a couple of color adjustments and some blurring. First, we'll boost the color saturation of our main subject. For that, we can use a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. We want to make sure, though, that our adjustment layer affects only the main subject, not the entire image, so we're going to clip the adjustment layer to "Layer 2", which is the layer that contains our main subject. Hold down your Alt (Win) / Option (Mac) key and click on the New Adjustment Layer icon at the bottom of the Layers palette. Select Hue/Saturation from the list of adjustment layers that appears:

By holding down the Alt / Option key as we click on the New Adjustment Layer icon, we tell Photoshop to pop open the New Layer dialog box which allows us to set some options before the adjustment layer is added. Directly below the Name option is an option called Use Previous Layer to Create Clipping Mask. This option, if selected, will clip the adjustment layer to the layer directly below it, which means, in our case, that whatever we do with our adjustment layer will affect only our main subject on "Layer 2". Click inside the checkbox to select this option, then click OK to exit out of the New Layer dialog box:

As soon as we exit out of the dialog box, the Hue/Saturation dialog box appears. We want to use it to increase the color saturation of our main subject, so click on the Saturation slider in the middle of the dialog box and drag it towards the right. The further you drag to the right, the more you'll increase color saturation, so keep an eye on your image in the document window as you drag the slider to make sure you don't overdo it. I'm going to drag my Saturation slider to a value of around +35, which gives my main subject a nice boost in color:

Click OK to exit out of the dialog box when you're done. If we look in the Layers palette for a moment, we can see the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer sitting above "Layer 2". Notice how the adjustment layer is indented to the right. This tell us that the layer is clipped to the layer below it:

Here's my image after boosting the color saturation of my main subject:

Step 7: Apply The "Gaussian Blur" Filter To "Layer 1"

We're done working on our main subject. Let's finish things off by reducing the importance of the rest of the photo. Click on "Layer 1" in the Layers palette to select it. The currently selected layer always appears highlighted in blue in the Layers palette. We're going to blur the rest of the photo, and to do that, we'll use Photoshop's Gaussian Blur filter. Go up to the Filter menu at the top of the screen, choose Blur, and then choose Gaussian Blur:

This brings up the Gaussian Blur filter dialog box. Set the Radius of the blur to around 10 pixels. Again, you may need to increase or decrease this amount depending on the size of the image you're working on, but 10 pixels generally works well:

Click OK to exit out of the Gaussian Blur dialog box, and if we look at our image in the document window, we can see that the background is nicely blurred out while our main subject remains sharp:

Step 8: Reduce The Color Saturation Of The Background With "Hue/Saturation"

As a final step, let's lower the color saturation of the background, which will help the main subject stand out even more. With "Layer 1" still selected, click once again on the New Adjustment Layer icon at the bottom of the Layers palette and choose Hue/Saturation from the list. There's no need to hold down the Alt / Option button this time:

When the Hue/Saturation dialog box appears, drag the Saturation slider towards the left to reduce the color saturation of the background. The further you drag to the left, the more you'll reduce saturation. I'm going to drag my slider to a value of around -25:

Click OK when you're done to exit out of the dialog box, and we're done! Here, after reducing the color saturation of the background is my final result:

Jessica Biel rose to fame as the wholesome preacher's daughter on the WB television show 7th Heaven, then gained greater notoriety for trying to get herself kicked off the show via a risqué photo spread in the men's magazine Gear. Making such statements as, "Mary Camden is dead," the 17-year-old Biel indeed got out of her contract to pursue a movie career; when that floundered, she - amusingly - found herself reconsidering her haste and returned for guest spots on the program.

Biel was born on March 3, 1982, in Ely, MN, then raised in Boulder, CO. She was first discovered at the 1994 IMTA Los Angeles Convention, which earned her a scholarship to Diane Hardin's Young Actors Space in Los Angeles. Teen print modeling followed, and in 1996, Biel began her run as Mary Camden on the Aaron Spelling-produced 7th Heaven. Shortly thereafter, she was cast as Peter Fonda's granddaughter in Victor Nunez's rich character study, Ulee's Gold (1997), and as Jonathan Taylor Thomas' love interest in I'll Be Home for Christmas (1998).

But Biel grew tired of playing a good girl on television and tried to force the producers to fire her from 7th Heaven, claiming her pristine image was a factor that kept her from landing the role that went to Thora Birch in American Beauty (1999). When the producers would not release her from her contract, she posed on the cover of the March 2000 Gear under the headline "Fallen Angel." The images inside featured her sprawled topless on a bed and against a bathroom mirror, her hands providing insufficient cover in a manner that pushed even Gear's lax standards for showing skin. The issue become one of Gear's most popular ever, with terrific resale value on Ebay, and got Biel canned from the show.

However, the controversy and exposure did not immediately improve her film career. Biel's first post-Gear role was as a bikini-wearing babe in the Freddie Prinze Jr. baseball movie Summer Catch (2001), but the film barely made a flicker at the box office after being bumped from its initial release date. Biel has since been making guest appearances in her initial Mary Camden role and has been cast in director Roger Avary's The Rules of Attraction (2002). An ill-advised shortcut down the backroads of Texas found Biel and friends pursued by one of the silver screen's most notorious maniacs in the 2003 remake The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, with supporting roles in David R. Ellis's intense pot-boiler Cellular and the vampire-slaying Wesley Snipes action fantasy Blade: Trinity serving well to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. While a blast into the clouds with Stealth provided innoffensive thrills for more forgiving movie-goers, few would stand up to defend Almost Famous director Cameron Crowe's saccharine Elizabethtown as even throwaway fun. In 2006, Biel traveled back in time to become the source of a decidedly supernatural mystery as the ill-fated love of a turn-of-the-centry Vienna magician portrayed by Edward Norton in director Neil Burger's The Illusionist.

Biel began 2007 at a low ebb, as the romantic lead in the apocalyptic sci-fi thriller NEXT. As directed by journeyman Hollywood action stalwart Lee Tamahori (XXX: State of the Union), and adapted (loosely) from the Philip K. Dick story "The Golden Man," the picture stars Nicolas Cage as Cris, an issue-ridden psychic who foresees the nuclear destruction of Los Angeles. Biel plays the seer's tender-hearted lover, who spends her free time every week at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, teaching the children of the Havasupai Indian reservation. After recieving many requests of how to create floral brushes in photoshop here is a tutorial , this tutorial has a source psd file with all the shapes in layers as wellas a brushes file which we will be creating by the end of the tutorial.

Step1

Creating Basic Stems

Start off by creating a new document , i will recommend creating a well big enough document as this will help you to create bigger resolution brushes.

Select the pen tool (P) and then using the path tool create a basic shape.

At this point it will not be perfet you need to adjust the handles of convert Point tool in order to shape it up

open up your Path pallette and do the following , right click the current path > fill Path > select black colour

Hit Delete to get rid of the path.

Create a new layer , using the pen tool create another path. adjust its shape by using Convert Point Tool .

right click in your paths window and fill the path

Repeat the process and draw a few more shapes.

once you fill it up you can hit del to delete the path . Keep in mind to create a separate layer for each shape.

Step2

Creating a Leaf

Use Pen tool ( P ) and create another path on a new layer

right click the path and fill it up with black colour

hit del to delete the path

over the same leave draw another shape Same layer

right click path > fill path > white colour > hit delete

Step3

Creating Petals Set

at this point you can just select white part and delete that as well. so your news leaf will have a cut.

copy this layer of leaf and arrange it into a shape by duplicating & Transforming .

you will have plenty of leave copies click on the layers thumbnails and group them.

This is our leaves set.

Step 4

Creating Brushes

Since all our shapes are in separate layers we will now convert them to brushes.

Here is a break down of all othe layers separated.

i will duplicate one of the leaves and will merge the GROUP of leaves as one layer.

Start by selecting pixels of any layer.

Edit > Define Brush Preset > name it and save

Follow the same procedure and save all the stem and leave shapes as brushes.

You should now be able to see your brushes saved in the brush pallette.

Step 5

Using the brushes

you are not done here these are the basic shapes that we have created with just these brushes you can create unlimited floral patterns and save them as More brushes which you can use later. Consider these as your baisic Pen tools with which you can create unlimited bushes and florishes.

Stamp each brush in a separate layer so you can transform its size if required .

Final out come

This is my 5 mins rendering after these brushes are created!

And ofcourse once you have one BUSH created ,you can flatten layers and drag and drop to your artwork where ever you please

OR make a new brush!

Since then, she has starred in movies like The Devil's Advocate (1997); Mighty Joe Young (1998); The Cider House Rules (1999); The Legend of Bagger Vance (2000) and The Italian Job (2003). take some picture of flag made in vectors.

Make a copy of the recently made layer and select the Delete Anchior Point Tool to erase the bottom tops. Using the Add Anchior Point Tool, it’s possible to insert a top on the middle part of the bottom part. The placement of the bottom tops may be changed with the Convert Point Tool. Don’s forget also to change the layer’s parameters of the copy on those you may see below:

Using the standard brush on a new layer, try to make several markings along the edges. The highlights of white color shall be introduced on the left and right sides.

Monica Bellucci was born on September 30th, 1968, in the village of Citta di Castello, in Umbria, Italy. Initially pursuing a career as a lawyer, Monica decided to start modeling in order to help pay for her tuition while at the University of Perugia. But of course, the glamorous life of a model -- which includes travel and a sweet income -- tempted Monica away from her law studies. In 1988, Monica moved to one of Europe's fashion centers -- Milan. There, she signed with Elite Model Management and found plenty of modeling work. By 1989, Monica was making it big in Paris and across the Atlantic, in New York. But although she had achieved huge success in so little time as a model (posing for Dolce & Gabbana and French Elle), Monica thrived for more.

Monica's classic and elegant good looks are matched only by an equally sophisticated and refined fashion sense. She made her film debut in 1990, with roles in Vita coi figli and Briganti (a.k.a Bandits: Love and Liberty). The following year, Monica starred as Francesca in the film La Riffa, and made her American film debut with the role of Dracula's Bride in 1992's Bram Stoker's Dracula, co-starring Gary Oldman and Winona Ryder. Roles began to pour in for the Italian beauty. After a role in Ostinato destino, she appeared in I Mitici (a.k.a. The Heroes) in 1994, and Palla di neve in 1995. She also starred as the Pharaoh's wife in the made-for-TV movie, Joseph. But it was her role in the 1996 film, L'Appartement, that earned Monica her acting accolades. After roles in more European films such as 1998's L'Ultimo capodanno, A los que aman, and Compromis, she starred in 1999's Comme un poisson hors de l'eau (a.k.a. Like a Fish Out of Water). But it was the critical success of the Italian film Malena (2000), in which Monica starred in the title role, that really catapulted her to fame. In 2001, Bellucci starred in Brotherhood of the Wolf (co-starring her husband Cassel) and as Cleopatra in Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatre. The following year she starred in Tears of the Sun, with Bruce Willis, and of course, as Persephone in the highly anticipated sequels to 1999's The Matrix. In 2004, Monica Bellucci was seen as Magdalene in Mel Gibson's controversial blockbuster, The Passion of the Christ, and returned to French film with Agents secrets. She can also add 2004's The Brothers Grimm (with Matt Damon and Heath Ledger), Spike Lee's She Hate Me, and 2005's Lord of War (with Nicolas Cage) to her filmography.

With over 20 movies to her credit she isn't a novice to film, unfortunately her fame comes from Italian cinema. Monica has not benefited from the Hollywood marketing machine that movie studios are capable of. Although the model-turned-actress has reached incredible heights in both streams of her career, she still dreams of working with the legendary Robert De Niro. Critics are quick to compare Monica Bellucci to previous Italian beauties, but she has her own brand of sensual style. With roles as a topless vampire in "Dracula", and her recent role as a sci-fi vixen in the Matrix sequels, Monica has proven to be a bold blend of a seductive actress and a talented star.

Eva Mendes was raised in Los Angeles of Cuban-American heritage. In college she began acting, studying underneath acting coach Ivana Chubbuck. This led to her desire to appear in feature films. Though taking many smaller roles in movies, she was little known until playing the girlfriend of Denzel Washington's character in Training Day (2001). Since then she has been featured in a wider range of roles, from comedic to dramatic. These gave her the ability to work with many highly regarded directors, such as Robert Rodriguez (Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003)), Carl Franklin (Out of Time (2003/I)), John Singleton (2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)), Antoine Fuqua (Training Day (2001)) and the Farrelly Bros. (Stuck on You (2003)).

Eva has co-starred in an independent film, The Wendell Baker Story (2005) with Owen Wilson, Luke Wilson and Will Ferrell, with Luke Wilson directing. Before that, her biggest movie was Hitch (2005/I), a romantic comedy that had her playing opposite Will Smith.

Along with acting, Eva is employed by Revlon Cosmetics as an international spokeswoman. She joins such elite actresses and models as Julianne Moore, Halle Berry and Cindy Crawford, who appear in Revlon's television and print ads. She is also a passionate supporter and active participant in Revlon's fight against breast cancer.
