Hair doesn't exist in its natural state forever.

Bleaching can affect the structure and condition of the hair. Frequent heat styling can contribute to dryness and damage. Chemical straightening and repeated coloring can also change how the hair feels and responds to another treatment.

That means two people with similar natural hair may need very different approaches to coloring if one has extensively treated hair and the other doesn't.

It's a simple point, but one that's easy to forget when we're focused on achieving a particular shade.

Should hair color be part of your haircare routine?

Coloring is often treated as a purely cosmetic decision. We choose a shade, book an appointment or pick up a box, and think about the result we want to see in the mirror.

But the coloring process also interacts with the hair itself.

For users who have their National ID number available, that can also be used as part of the verification process.

How does Maya's ID-less verification work?

The new process combines National ID verification with a video selfie and additional identity checks.

Here is what eligible users can expect when upgrading their Maya account.

1. Enter your name and birthday

Instead of immediately taking a photo of a physical ID, eligible users can provide their name and birthday when prompted.

Maya checks the information against records through National ID eVerify.

Users who know their National ID number can use that information instead.

If the details are successfully verified, there is no need to photograph or upload a physical ID.

2. Take a video selfie

The next step is a video selfie.

Maya’s cross-functional football team completed an unbeaten campaign to capture the Corporate Football League 2026 Division 3 Cup, finishing the tournament with nine wins, 31 goals scored and just three conceded.

The team, made up of employees from different functions across Maya, defeated Shopee, 3–1, in the championship match held at Atleta ’63 Turf Field in Bridgetowne, Pasig City.

The July-to-August tournament run saw Maya post a perfect 9–0 record. Before reaching the final, the team recorded wins against UnionBank, Wells Fargo, Shopee, GCash, JPMorgan Chase, RCM and Globe, followed by a 2–0 semifinal victory over UnionBank.

A cross-functional team on and off the field

The Maya squad brought together employees from product development, engineering, technology, data science, consumer business, credit, enterprise, strategic partnerships, marketing, corporate affairs, and strategy and programs.

For Mohamed Omar Mahmoud, Maya football team co-captain and senior strategic partnerships officer, the team's success came from putting aside their different roles and working toward the same objective.

“We came from very different teams across Maya, but on the pitch everyone had one priority: do what the team needed,” Mahmoud said.

He added that the players trained together, trusted one another and stayed focused throughout the tournament.

“Going 9–0 was special, but the best part was winning it together,” he said.
