Target Tracking Camera Keeps Eye On Fast Moving Object
Ishikawa Oku Lab has developed a camera system can track fast moving objects and keeping them in the center of the screen at all times. "1ms Auto Pan-Tilt" technology can automatically control the camera's Pan-Tilt angles to keep an object always at the center of the field, just like "autofocus" keeps an object in focus.

This device consists of two mirrors for pan and tilt and a group of lenses. The Saccade mirrors can be controlled at high speed, on the order of milliseconds. Even a high-speed object like a bouncing Ping-Pong ball in play can be tracked at the center due to a high-speed optical gaze controller Saccade Mirror and a 1000-fps high-speed vision.

The mirrors move independently, so this system doesn’t lose its high-speed response even if it’s connected to a large, heavy camera. Also, by connecting a projector instead of a recording device, images can be projected onto a fast-moving object. This could also be used in AR applications, showing interactive content on moving objects.

Currently under development by the Ishikawa Oku Lab, at the University of Tokyo, this latest version captures Full HD video and can be used outdoors. Supposed applications of this target tracking Camera technology are a broadcasting service of a sports game, recording detailed dynamics of a flying bird, an insect, a car, an aircraft etc.

The latest version of Spotify desktop client for Windows and Mac has some serious issues that rises the question whether its an upgrade or a downgrade. The popular music streaming service’s desktop client auto update installs a broken version (v1.0.1) of itself with out giving user a choice. Beside the new user interface and MusixMatch lyrics feature, the latest version of Spotify looses some basic functionalities and options which will frustrate any regular Spotify user and make wander how this version passes as a public release.

The new buggy version of Spotify has lists of broken functionalities, there is no Ctrl+F shortcut filter option to search in playlist. When you click the Spotify window’s red X button in the top-right, the program shuts down, instead of minimizing it to system stray. When you click on the album artwork of the song that's playing it doesn't direct you to the playlist or album where it's playing from. In the Options menu; there seem to be a lot of options missing. And the list goes on.

Apollo MIDI over Bluetooth provides low latency MIDI connections between two iOS devices, or an iOS device and a Mac. With Apollo, MIDI can be sent over Bluetooth LE wireless connections, eliminating hardware adapters, and providing much lower latency than is possible with WiFi. Apollo uses Bluetooth LE: this is supported by the iPad 3 and newer, the iPad Mini, the iPhone 4s and newer, and recent Mac desktop and laptop computers.

Install the app on two iOS devices, select an "A" endpoint for one, and a "B" endpoint for the other. Press the search button on both, and a Bluetooth connection will be established. After connecting, MIDI messages sent to Apollo running on one device will be forwarded to the other -- and these messages can then be redirected to synthesizer or sequencer apps.

In addition to MIDI connections between iOS devices, Apollo can also be used to connect to Mac desktop and laptop computers. Recent iMacs and MacBooks support Bluetooth LE; for older Macs, a USB Bluetooth adapter may be required. The OSX version of Apollo is free, and is available in the Mac app store.

This version is free, with connections limited to 5 minutes; this should be plenty of time to evaluate the speed, and determine if the app works on your equipment. VDrift Free Driving Game: VDrift is a cross-platform, open source driving simulation made with drift racing in mind. The driving physics engine was recently re-written from scratch but was inspired and owes much to the Vamos physics engine. This game is in the early stages of development but is already very playable. The game features simulation-grade driving physics, cars based on real-world vehicles, tracks based on famous real-world tracks, competition against AI players, mouse/joystick/gamepad/wheel/keyboard support.

VDrift is quite realistic game. Every car is different to drive depending on parameters and atmospheric conditions. VDrift has a high quality simulation engine and graphics so needs a fairly decent computer for it to run the best it can. The hardware requirements are what can be reasonable expect to have no problems playing the game.

VDrift requires a relatively fast CPU. A 2 GHz or better clock speed is recommended, although it should be possible to run VDrift with a 1 GHz or better CPU. VDrift requires a recent nVidia or ATI graphics card. Intel graphics cards are not recommended.

VDrift Driving Simulation is released under the GNU General Public License (GPL) v2. VDrift is currently available for Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X and Windows. This game is in the early stages of development but is already very playable.

Animation is the rapid display of a sequence of images in order to create an illusion of movement. 2D Animation has traditionally been very expensive because every frame must be drawn by hand. Traditionally 2D animation is created by drawing each displayed image individually. Those images are called "frames" and thus such method called "frame-by-frame animation".

To create good illusion of movement you need to draw many frames, that's why his method requires a lot of time and resources. Even with today´s digital inking and painting software, the process still relies on individuals hand-drawing each frame. This laborious task is called "tweening".

Synfig – Vector Based Free 2D Animation Software
Synfig is a powerful free vector-based open-source 2D animation software package that is designed for producing feature-film quality animation with fewer people and resources. It provides all the tools, including vector shape drawing tools, layers, masking, animation timeline, audio syncing tool, and documentation to design a professional animated film. Synfig eliminates the task of manual tweening, producing smooth, fluid motion without the animator having to draw out each frame individually. This allows you to produce 2D animation with fewer people while producing art of a higher quality.

Vector Morphing Animation
Synfig uses Morphing technique that takes two images and creates a smooth transition between them. In the process of morphing, one shape is deformed into another and this transformation is usually defined by control points. In Synfig Studio images are constructed from vector shapes and the morphing is done automatically. That allows us to create animation by drawing only key positions at relatively wide time intervals. You need only draw a few frames as needed to create a basic sense of motion for the scene, and Synfig Studio will create the in-between frames.

Cutout Animation
Cutout animation is created by splitting objects into parts and applying some simple transformations to them (like translation, rotation or scale) at different moments of time. Synfig Studio uses those values to interpolate the motion for in-between frames. Cutout animation can be produced from bitmap images or vector graphics.

In both Morphing and Cutout animation, Synfig Studio computes the gaps between the drawn frames (also called "keyframes") and fill the gaps to produce smooth and fluid animation. This process allows animator to create frames for a animated object automatically.

Frame-by-Frame Tracing Animation
Synfig Studio can be used to bring your hand-drawn frame-by-frame animation to the film-quality level by converting bitmap data of each frame into vector format. This process is called "tracing" and usually done by hand by constructing vector shapes on top of bitmap image. In the process of construction you can apply a lot of fascinating effects built into Synfig Studio to achieve a professional look for your animations.

Synfig Studio gives you flexible control over the repeated data, such as colors, outline characteristics, textures, images and many more - even animation trajectories and their sets (actions). Reusing repeated data is achieved via linking. This is a power of Synfig Animation Studio, which is especially important for big animation projects.
