JaMarion is quite an exceptional young man.  I was introduced to him about two years ago, as he was beginning his dance journey. In addition to his outstanding achievements in academics and student government at Mercyhurst Prep and being inducted into the National Honor Society, JaMarion possesses a pure heart that makes everyone feel accepted and motivated. He is quick to lend a hand and quick to show support. His remarkable natural God-given talent has earned him numerous dance scholarships through NYCDA as well as the Academic Dean and Dance Talent Award to Marymount Manhattan Dance Program in the upcoming fall semester.  I will sincerely miss hearing his deep voice in the studio and seeing his signature split leaps in second on stage. Love you, JaMarion!

Mia has also had her share of obstacles; several ankle fractures, brain surgery due to a tumor a year and half ago, and the worst of all… having to endure me as a mom.  One thing I can honestly say though, I never gave her special treatment.  Every part she got; she earned it.  She worked hard to become the amazing dancer that she’s become.  I love to watch her dance; she has a rich, expressive way of moving, whether she’s doing ballet or contemporary, she dances with confidence and assurance. AND, she’s also an amazingly gifted choreographer.  I’m very proud of all the dancers but I’m especially proud of Mia for her accomplishments in dancing because she did it herself. And SHE should be very proud her. I love you!

Arie is also graduating from PA Cyber and I’m so excited that she plans to continue dancing at Sovereign while also exploring a possible career in nursing.  Arie is also a story of inspiration.  After foot surgery about 4 years ago where she endured 2 years of complications and setbacks, she never stopped fighting for herself.  There was much frustration along the way but I’m so happy she didn’t give up on herself because she was a beautiful “Older Clara” for the new Nutcracker. Love you, Arie!

Amelia has a face that I can’t take my eyes off when she dances kind of face. She is the pin that holds everything together.  Amelia has graduated early from Collegiate Academy and will be moving to New York City in a few short months to continue her studies at Marymount Manhattan College.  She was awarded more than $70 thousand dollars in scholarships to continue dance training, working toward a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with a ballet concentration.  She is also committed to earning a double major, with a second degree in Business. Congratulations, Amelia!

Liz is graduating from PA Cyber and, let me just share something about Liz.  When she first came to the studio, she was not flexible, couldn’t get her leg up at all, and she wobbled so much when she came away from the barre to stand on 1 leg.  She had a very difficult facility and had a lot of work to transform herself into the dancer she is today.  Her determination is spell-bounding and she’s the very definition of “overcomer.”  And with that perseverance, she will be joining Central Illinois Ballet in Peoria, IL as a Trainee.  Congratulations, Liz!

Eunice Lee graduated from Collegiate Academy and is attending Montclair University in New Jersey as a BFA Dance Major on a Performing Arts Scholarship.  I am so pleased that she will continue dancing because this young woman literally never stops moving.  Over the past 3 years, she has been one of the most dependable and versatile dancers I’ve had the joy of training and this past year, she has developed a wonderfully strong stage presence as well.  Although, she may be very quiet to talk with, when she is on stage, she’s like a completely different person.  It’s like the power of God breaks free through her movement and everyone is left in awe and surprise.  I feel very fortunate and blessed to have known you, Eunice, and I look forward to seeing where your dancing will lead you.

DeZire Howard graduated from Collegiate Academy and is attending Hampton University in Virginia, an HBCU institution, Historically Black College and University, for a degree in Business Administration, Management and Marketing and participates in the dance team.  When DeZire first came to the studio, she was just a shy little thing with legs up to her ear.  Now 7 years later, she commands the stage like she owns it and audiences can’t take their eyes off of her.  Her strength and power leaves you wanting to watch more, which is why she won the highest award given at NYCDA, New York City Dance Alliance convention and competition for the solo she danced at the Year End Performance.  She is amazing in any style of dance, yes, even ballet, but watching her dance contemporary and tap just blows everyone away.
