10 Important Rules of Good Studying

Use recall. After you read a page, look away and recall the main ideas. Highlight very little, and never highlight anything you haven’t put in your mind first by recalling. Try recalling main ideas when you are walking to class or in a different room from where you originally learned it. An ability to recall—to generate the ideas from inside yourself—is one of the key indicators of good learning.

Test yourself. On everything. All the time. Flashcards are your friend.

Chunk your problems. Chunking is understanding and practicing with a problem solution so that it can all come to mind in a flash. After you solve a problem, rehearse it. Make sure you can solve it cold—every step. Pretend it’s a song and learn to play it over and over again in your mind, so the information combines into one smooth chunk you can pull up whenever you want.

Space your repetition. Spread out your learning in any subject a little every day, just like an athlete. Your brain is like a muscle—it can handle only a limited amount of exercise on one subject at a time.

Alternate different problem-solving techniques during your practice. Never practice too long at any one session using only one problem-solving technique—after a while, you are just mimicking what you did on the previous problem. Mix it up and work on different types of problems. This teaches you both how and when to use a technique. (Books generally are not set up this way, so you’ll need to do this on your own.) After every assignment and test, go over your errors, make sure you understand why you made them, and then rework your solutions. To study most effectively, handwrite (don’t type) a problem on one side of a flashcard and the solution on the other. (Handwriting builds stronger neural structures in memory than typing.) You might also photograph the card if you want to load it into a study app on your smartphone. Quiz yourself randomly on different types of problems. Another way to do this is to randomly flip through your book, pick out a problem, and see whether you can solve it cold.

Take breaks. It is common to be unable to solve problems or figure out concepts in math or science the first time you encounter them. This is why a little study every day is much better than a lot of studying all at once. When you get frustrated with a math or science problem, take a break so that another part of your mind can take over and work in the background.

Use explanatory questioning and simple analogies. Whenever you are struggling with a concept, think to yourself, How can I explain this so that a ten-year-old could understand it? Using an analogy really helps, like saying that the flow of electricity is like the flow of water. Don’t just think your explanation—say it out loud or put it in writing. The additional effort of speaking and writing allows you to more deeply encode (that is, convert into neural memory structures) what you are learning.

Focus. Turn off all interrupting beeps and alarms on your phone and computer, and then turn on a timer for twenty-five minutes. Focus intently for those twenty-five minutes and try to work as diligently as you can. After the timer goes off, give yourself a small, fun reward. A few of these sessions in a day can really move your studies forward. Try to set up times and places where studying—not glancing at your computer or phone—is just something you naturally do.

Eat your frogs first. Do the hardest thing earliest in the day, when you are fresh.

Make a mental contrast. Imagine where you’ve come from and contrast that with the dream of where your studies will take you. Post a picture or words in your workspace to remind you of your dream. Look at that when you find your motivation lagging. This work will pay off both for you and those you love!

Passive rereading—sitting passively and running your eyes back over a page. Unless you can prove that the material is moving into your brain by recalling the main ideas without looking at the page, rereading is a waste of time.

Letting highlights overwhelm you. Highlighting your text can fool your mind into thinking you are putting something in your brain when all you’re really doing is moving your hand. A little highlighting here and there is okay—sometimes it can be helpful in flagging important points. But if you are using highlighting as a memory tool, make sure that what you mark is also going into your brain.

Merely glancing at a problem’s solution and thinking you know how to do it. This is one of the worst errors students make while studying. You need to be able to solve a problem step-by-step, without looking at the solution.

Waiting until the last minute to study. Would you cram at the last minute if you were practicing for a track meet? Your brain is like a muscle—it can handle only a limited amount of exercise on one subject at a time.

Repeatedly solving problems of the same type that you already know how to solve. If you just sit around solving similar problems during your practice, you’re not actually preparing for a test—it’s like preparing for a big basketball game by just practicing your dribbling.

Neglecting to read the textbook before you start working problems. Would you dive into a pool before you knew how to swim? The textbook is your swimming instructor—it guides you toward the answers. You will flounder and waste your time if you don’t bother to read it. Before you begin to read, however, take a quick glance over the chapter or section to get a sense of what it’s about.

Not checking with your instructors or classmates to clear up points of confusion. Professors are used to losing students coming in for guidance—it’s our job to help you. The students we worry about are the ones who don’t come in. Don’t be one of those students.

Thinking you can learn deeply when you are being constantly distracted. Every tiny pull toward an instant message or conversation means you have less brainpower to devote to learning. Every tug of interrupted attention pulls out tiny neural roots before they can grow.

Not getting enough sleep. Your brain pieces together problem-solving techniques when you sleep, and it also practices and repeats whatever you put in mind before you go to sleep. In the early years of the 20th century, the British introduced formal education in agriculture primarily to produce revenue workers and landlords and not professional farmers. By 1947 India had 17 colleges of agriculture with an annual enrollment of about 1500 students. These included the colleges at Coimbatore, Nagpur, Kanpur, and Pusa. Considering the importance of Agricultural, the first State Agricultural University (SAU) was established in 1960 at Pantnagar (Nainital) on the pattern of the Land Grant Colleges of the United States by integrating education, research, and extension education. The UGC accorded the status of Deemed-to-be-University (DU) to Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi in 1958 which became the first ICAR Institute as Deemed University conducting postgraduate teaching and research.

Today, India has a large ICAR-AU network with 66 Agricultural Universities (with 265 constituent colleges) out of which 56 are State Agricultural Universities (including 16 specialized Veterinary and Animal Sciences and Horticulture and Forestry Sciences Universities), 1 Central Agricultural University, Imphal, 5 deemed-to-be-universities (four of them are ICAR Institutes – IARI, IVRI, NDRI and CIFE, the fifth being Allahabad Agricultural Institute, Allahabad (also known as Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences (SHIATS)), 4 Central Universities having agricultural faculty (Varanasi; AMU, Aligarh; Vishwa Bharti, Shantiniketan and Nagaland University, Medziphema) awarding various kinds of degrees in different disciplines of agricultural, veterinary and allied sciences. Agricultural education in some traditional universities of the country where about 50 agricultural colleges affiliated to 16 general universities, and 7 Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) are also imparting education and research in agriculture science and technology.

The Agriculture education is imparted at the level of diploma, degree (11 major disciplines at undergraduate), masters (95 subjects at post-graduate level), and doctoral level with a total intake capacity of 35,000 students per year. As of now, it is estimated that there are 3,15,000 professionally qualified persons in agricultural sciences to which about 15000 graduates, 11,000 Masters, and 2,500 Ph.D. Degree in agriculture are added every year. The degrees awarded by the Universities associated with the ICAR are well recognized and accepted for higher education globally and prepares them even to start their own business units including the Agri. The main aim of agricultural education is to prepare human resources for the agriculture sector. Global food demand is expected to be doubled by 2050 and at the same time, natural resources are gradually reducing and deteriorating. Knowledge-based, input efficient, Eco-friendly, and high tech precision agriculture is the next stage for which efforts have been directed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Agricultural Universities in planning, designing, and executing the national agricultural educational programs. In order to face the challenges like an increased requirement of food quantities, demand for quality food, the threat from natural disasters, dwindling rainfall, decreasing soil fertility, ever-rising pollution, there is a need for more and more agriculture professionals. Humans can live without roads, buildings, highways, but no human can ever live without food. So be proud of aspiring to become agriculture professional. इस किस्म का नाम इसके उद्गम स्थल, पश्चिम बंगाल के एक जिले मालदा से आता है। ये आम अपने मीठे स्वाद और पतली त्वचा के लिए प्रसिद्ध हैं। इसके अलावा, इस आम की देश के साथ-साथ विदेशों में भी काफी मांग है।

9. नीलम (Neelam)

नीलम मुख्य रूप से भारत में कर्नाटक, तमिलनाडु और आंध्र प्रदेश जैसे दक्षिणी राज्यों में बढ़ता है। यह किस्म अपने नारंगी रंग और अनोखी खुशबू के लिए प्रसिद्ध है। इसके अलावा, इस किस्म का आकार दूसरों की तुलना में छोटा है।

10. बंगनपल्ली/ सफेदा/ बेनिशान

(*Banganpalli/ Safeda/ Benishan)

गर्मियों के दौरान उपलब्ध, इस उत्तम आम किस्म में मीठा और खट्टा दोनों का स्वाद होता है। यह मुख्य रूप से उसी स्थान पर अपनी उत्पत्ति के साथ आंद्रा प्रदेश में बढ़ता है।

11. केसर (Kesar)

आम की यह किस्म गुजरात के जूनागढ़ जिले में अपनी जड़ें जमाती है। खुशबू के लिए केसर या केसर के लिए प्रसिद्ध है, आम के लिए आम जैसी स्वादिष्ट बनाने के लिए यह आम सबसे अच्छा है।

12. हिमसागर (Himsagar)

यह आम मुख्य रूप से पश्चिम बंगाल के मुर्शिदाबाद जिले में उगता है। हालाँकि, आप इसे बिहार में भी पाएंगे। इस फल में फाइबर रहित गूदा होता है और इसलिए यह विभिन्न प्रकार की मिठाइयों और पेय बनाने के लिए उपयुक्त है।

13. लालबाग (Lalbagh )

महाराष्ट्र की भूमि से एक और, यह किस्म अपने लाल-भूरे रंग और मोटे गूदे के लिए प्रसिद्ध है। इस प्रकार, यह विभिन्न प्रकार के अचार और जेम बनाने में उपयोग किया जाता है।

14. आम्रपाली (Amrpali)

यह दशहरी और नीलम के बीच एक क्रॉस से बना एक संकर किस्म है। यह विविधता से पूरे भारत में बढ़ती है। इस किस्म के पेड़ छोटे फल देते हैं। हालांकि, ये लाल-पीले फल स्वाद में आनंदमय होते हैं।

15. मुलगोबा (Mulgoba)

मूलगोबा दक्षिण भारतीय राज्यों, मुख्य रूप से कर्नाटक और तमिलनाडु के कृषको के लिए

महत्वपूर्ण हैं। ये आम आकार में गोल होते हैं और पकने पर भी हरे रहते हैं। उनके पास एक मीठा गूदा है, जो स्वाद में बहुत अच्छा होता है।

भारत में बड़ी मात्रा में आम उपलब्ध हैं। अर्थात् मल्लिका, किशनभोग, सिंदूरी, रसपुरी, बॉम्बे ग्रीन, गुलाब ख़ास, लक्ष्मणभोग, ब्लैक, और रोज़, आलमपुर, राजापुरी और इमाम पासंद।

उर्वरक (Fertilizers) कृषि में उपज बढ़ाने के लिए प्रयुक्त रसायन हैं जो पेड-पौधों की वृद्धि में सहायता के लिए इस्तेमात्र किए जाते हैं। पानी में शीघ्र घुलने वाले ये रसायन मिट्टी में या पत्तियों पर छिड़काव करके प्रयुक्त किये जाते हैं। पौधे मिट्टी से जड़ों दूवारा एवं ऊपरी

छिड़काव करने पर पत्तियों दवारा उर्वरकों को अवशोषित कर लेते हैं। उर्वरक, पौधों के लिये

आवश्यक तत्वों की तत्काल पूर्ति के साधन हैं लेकिन इनके प्रयोग के कुछ दृष्परिणाम भी हैं।

ये लंबे समय तक मिट्टी में बने नहीं रहते हैं। सिंचाई के बाद जल के साथ ये रसायन जमीन के

नीचे भौम जलस्तर तक पहुँचकर उसे दूषित करते हैं। मिट्ठी में उपस्थित जीवाणुओं और

सुक्ष्मजीवों के त्रिए भी ये घातक साबित होते हैं। इसलिए उर्वरक के विकल्प के रूप में जैविक

खाद का प्रयोग तेजी से लोकप्रीय हो रहा है। भारत में रासायनिक खाद का सर्वाधिक प्रयोग

पंजाब में होता है।

उर्वरक का वर्गीकरण

कार्बनिक/जैविक उर्वरक (कम्पोस्ट, यूरिया) या अकार्बनिक उर्वरक (अमोनियम नाइट्रेट)

प्राकृतिक (पीट) या कृत्रिम उर्वरक (सुपर फॉस्फेट

प्रमुख रासायनिक उर्वरक

यूरिया

पहचान विधि :

सफेद चमकदार, लगअग समान आकार के गोल दाने।

पानी में पूर्णतया घुल जाना तथा घोल छूने पर शीतल अनुभूति।

गर्म तवे पर रखने से पिघल जाता है और आंच तेज करने पर कोई अवशेष नही बचता।

डाई अमोनियम फास्फेट (डी.ए.पी.)

पहचान विधि : सख्त, दानेदार, भूरा, काला, बादामी रंग नाखूनों से आसानी से नहीं छूटता।

डी.ए.पी. के कुछ दानों को लेकर तम्बाकू की तरह उसमें चूना मिलाकर मलने पर तीक्ष्ण

गन्ध निकलती है, जिसे सूंघना असहय हो जाता है।

तवे पर धीमी आंच में गर्म करने पर दाने फूल जाते है।

सुपर फास्फेट

पहचान विधि :

यह सख्त दानेदार, भूरा काला बादामी रंगों से युक्त तथा नाखूनों से आसानी से न टूटने

वाला उर्वरक है। यह चूर्ण के रूप में भी उपलब्ध होता है। इस दानेदार उर्वरक की मिलावट

बहुधा डी.ए.पी. व एन.पी.के. मिक्‍्चर उर्वरकों के साथ की जाने की सम्भावना बनी रहती है।

जिंक सल्फेट

पहचान विधि :

जिंक सल्फेट में मैंगनीशिम सल्फेट प्रमुख मिलावटी रसायन है। भौतिक रूप से समानता के

कारण नकली असली की पहचान कठिन होती है।

डी.ए.पी. के घोल में जिंक सल्फेट के घोल को मिलाने पर थक्‍्केदार घना अवक्षेप बन जाता

है। मैगनीशियम सल्फेट के साथ ऐसा नहीं होता।

जिंक सल्फेट के घोल में पतला कास्टिक का घोल मिलाने पर सफेद, मटठमेल्रा मांड़ जैसा

अवक्षेप बनता है, जिसमें गाढ़ा कास्टिक का घोल मिल्राने पर अवक्षेप पूर्णतया घुल जाता है।

यदि जिंक सल्फेट की जगह पर मैंग्नीशिम सल्फेट है तो अवक्षेप नहीं घुलेगा।

पोटाश खाद

पहचान विधि : सफेद कणाकार, पिसे नमक तथा लाल मिर्च जैसा मिश्रण।

ये कण नम करने पर आपस में चिपकते नहीं।

पानी में घोलने पर खाद का लाल भाग पानी में ऊपर तैरता है।

खाद डालने की मुख्य विधिया

(१) तौलिए या थाल्रा में डालना : तौलिए में छोटे पौधों में आधा व बड़े पौधों में एक फुट की

तने से दूरी रखते हुये खादें डाल दी जाती है। खादें पौधों की टहनियों के फैलाव के नीचे बिखेर

कर डालने के बाद मिट्टी में मित्रा दी जातीहै। मिट्टी में खादें मिलाना अति आवश्यक होता है।

जब बहुत ज्यादा नमी हो या बहुत ज्यादा सूखा पड़ रहा हो तो खादें न डालें।

(२) पट्टी में खाद डालना : टहनियों के फैलाव के बाहरी घेरे में 20-25 सेंटीमीटर पट्टी में खादें

डाल दी जाती है और ऊपर से ढक दिया जाता है। ऐसे विधि वहीं प्रयोग में लाई जाती है जहां

ज्यादा बरसात होती है।

(3) छिड़काव विधि : पत्तों के ऊपर छिड़काव किया जाता है। ज्यादात्तर यूरियाखाद को

पानी में घोल कर उसे छिड़काव द्वारा पत्तों पर डाला जाता है। 4 किलो यूरिया को ५० लीटर

पानी में घोलकर छिडकाव करें पानी कम होने पर पत्तियों के झुलसने की संभावना रहती है

(४) बिखेर कर डालना : पौधों की दो पंक्तियों के बीच में पौधों से उचितदूरी बनाते हुये खेत में

बिखेर कर खादें डाल दी जाती हैं। हिमाचल प्रदेश में इस विधि को कम ही प्रयोग किया जाता

है और उन सेब के बागीचों में प्रयोग किया जाता है जहां तौलिए के बदले पूरा खेत ही साफ

रखा हो।
