Survey Junkie is a smooth and clean site that lives up to its name. With a clean interface and a straightforward process, this site feels as if it were made by someone who is experienced with using survey sites. The site is set up as an aggregator of surveys from other sites, which means you are almost never waiting for new survey opportunities. Due to the large number of available surveys you will have options in terms of the amount of time you want to spend on each survey and what point total you are willing to shoot for. Though the options for earning may be narrow, you at least can feel comfortable with what you are getting with Survey Junkie, a plethora of surveys and transparent payout rates.

Sign Up Process: Survey Junkie does a great job of simplifying the signup process. You simply enter your email or you can sign up through your Facebook or Google+ account. I suggest creating and using a separate email account for survey sites, as you can get a lot of emails from these companies.

Once your account is created, you will be asked questions and offered options to better set up your profile. This is important to do, as it will allow Survey Junkie to find the surveys you are most likely to be qualified for. An added bonus is that Survey Junkie will give you a small reward for adding more answers to your profile surveys and doing simple things like confirming your email. This is something that will save you a lot of lost time as you move forward and will also net you a little cash to start the process.

I went through all 7 of the profile surveys:

Is There a Mobile App?: No, however the mobile site is very user-friendly and resizes in a way that makes it easier to use than the desktop version in some ways. The only drawback would be that Survey Junkie cannot control what the sites that it aggregates these surveys from does with their mobile experience. However, it seems that they are aware of which sites and surveys function appropriately on mobile, as they have blocks on certain surveys which are only available on the desktop version.

Payout Minimum: One area where Survey Junkie shines is the payout minimum and transparency in your earnings. Your point total and corresponding cash amount is clearly shown on the left side of the page for you to keep track of as you work through surveys. The minimum payout is 1,000 points which is equal to $10.00, as essentially 1 point is equal to 1 penny. This is great as you can get to that point pretty quickly, and is much better than many sites.

Payouts can be through PayPal, bank transfer, or through Amazon and other e-gift cards. These payouts are near instantaneous, which is rare as most sites take at least a day or so to get you your money and some go as far as taking weeks to mail a check! I received my PayPal payout in less than 30 minutes.

Ways to Earn Money: Survey Junkie is true to its name. They really are all about the surveys. Money (aka: points) is earned through taking surveys which are found on the dashboard of the site or through email survey offers sent to you. They even give you a few points for each survey you don't qualify for.

The options are limited compared to a site like Swagbucks, which has a plethora of earning options (check out it's review here). However, there is something to like about the simplicity of Survey Junkie if you are someone who prefers surveys over the other earning methods. The straightforward nature of it can be great for avoiding distractions. This is key in order to maximize your per-hour earning rate.

My Personal Survey Qualification Percentage: I qualified for just under 70% of the surveys I attempted on this site. This is a rate that is surprisingly high for these types of sites. When a site aggregates surveys from other providers, there tends to be some disconnect, so I was happy to qualify for as many as I did.

An important note to consider in terms of strategy is to find sites that may put you through a disqualifying loop (where you are asked demographic or qualifying questions repeatedly in order to find a survey) and avoid those types when you see them come up. This is due to the amount of time these repeated qualifying questions take to find you a survey. Sometimes they may not find a survey at all, and you are stuck in the loop. It will take a little experience to get a feel for which survey providers take the longest to qualify. If you avoid these, you will be able to maximize your time and make more money.

Survey Invite Rate: With Survey Junkie, the dashboard offers you many options for taking surveys. But you will get offers by email as well. I have been receiving 1 to 3 email offers per day (remember, this is why a separate email account for survey sites is important) and the offers are similar to what you will find on the dashboard.

However, there are different types of offers you will receive by email. Some of them are for incredibly short surveys for a few points, usually done on the Survey Junkie site, while other offers are for larger point totals and longer surveys.

Ways to Maximize Earning Potential: On a site that focuses so much on surveys, the strategy can seem simple, take as many surveys as possible for as many points as possible. But there are some tips and tricks that can help to amplify your earning potential with Survey Junkie. Here are a few to consider:

1. Use the estimates to your advantage. Survey Junkie offers you a point amount you can earn for each survey, but it also shows an estimated time that each survey should take. Make sure you take surveys which offer a useful return on that estimated time. While you might be able to finish surveys faster than the estimated time, using the time as a guideline is a good idea for pushing up your per-hour earnings.
2. Focus on 100+ point surveys. While there are many options for under 50 points, usually the time you would take to qualify and take the survey does not make them incredibly worthwhile. My suggestion would be to focus on surveys which are worth 100 or more points. This will allow for some wiggle room in the amount of time that it takes to qualify, etc. I would save the lower point surveys for times when I may be waiting in line or only have a few minutes available.
   
3. Don't overthink it. As you start answering questions, it is easy to start really thinking about what to answer. While you should answer as best and as truthful as you can, the name of the game here is speed. In order to make money effectively, you need to be as efficient as possible. So don't change answers, move quickly, and again don't overthink it!

In Conclusion, Should You Join Survey Junkie?

Yes. If you like surveys as your method of earning, this is a great place for you. If you follow my advice and maximize your time, you can do well with Survey Junkie.

You can, of course, take surveys, but you can also earn points by watching videos, surfing the internet, filling out offers, and even just logging on at various times to collect daily points. Their payout options are various as well with gift cards as low as $2.00 and PayPal payouts starting at $5.00. This is among the best in the industry.

A huge benefit is that PaidViewpoint does not screen you out of a survey, which is a great feature for maximizing time and eliminating frustration. They are a company who looks at things from the user perspective, offering quick payouts and a signup bonus.

I would rank CashCrate even higher for Mexico, however the site states that there are less offers for international members. You should still join, as it is important to join multiple sites for maximum earning potential.

Very few survey companies are available worldwide. SurveySavvy is one of those companies. They offer a few options in terms of earning. They have surveys of course, but also offer a browser add-on and an app called SavvyConnect. SurveyConnect aggregates internet browsing data for behavioral research. The SavvyConnect app is an easy way to earn on your devices. Their payouts start at an incredibly low amount of $1.00 by check. This is one of the lowest minimum payouts you will see, which is great. But getting payouts by check can definitely delay the process of getting paid.

GlobalTestMarket

GlobalTestMarket is a survey company that offers many opportunities for earning. You have to qualify for surveys and may be screened out if you do not qualify. However, if you qualify, the surveys pay out well and are fairly quick to complete. The payout level is 1100 points, or $50, so it may take a little longer than most sites to get a payout, but with the surveys paying more it should balance out.

Prize Rebel

Prize rebel is one of my personal favorite survey companies and they also happen to offer surveys for residents of South Africa as well. Prize Rebel offers numerous ways to make money online. When you first sign up, you'll be asked basic questions about your personal profile such as your occupation, if you own or rent your house, if you have kids etc. After that, you can start taking surveys and earning points.

You can turn your points in for money via PayPal or gift cards. The system works pretty simply in that each point is worth roughly 1 penny, now the reason I say “roughly” is that you can earn bonus tiers where your points can be worth slightly more:

You can redeem your 200 – 500 points for as little as $2 – $5 rewards or even as high as a custom PayPal amount for $500 for example if you earned 50,000 points.

Prize Rebel also offers multiple ways to earn points. You can earn points from taking surveys, completing offers where you do a trial of a company's products, watch videos or completing tasks. My personal recommendation is to focus on taking surveys. You'll earn the most for your money doing that.

Paid ViewPoint

Paid Viewpoint is one of my top survey taking websites, and is fortunately available to people living in South Africa. It is pretty unique in the fact that it doesn't start out paying a lot, but don't let this stop you.

The way Paid ViewPoint works is that they start off with low paying surveys, but use these surveys to start building a profile for you. The more surveys you take, the more your profile gets built out.

Paid Viewpoint keeps track of your profile through your “TraitScore”. These are points that are awarded to you after you take surveys, along with some cash. The higher you get your TraitScore, the more you get paid per survey.

The surveys are also very short and well designed.

So I recommend starting out with Paid Viewpoint and not getting discouraged that you are not making a lot, because later on, they can become your highest paying survey company.

GlobalTestMarket

GlobalTestMarket is another great survey company that is looking for the opinions of people around the world, including those in South Africa.

They are focused primarily around researching and developing new products and services. This means that when you are taking their surveys, you can happen across cool things that haven't been released to the general public yet.

Their surveys are generally 10-20 minutes long, and they payout through PayPal, which is my favorite form of payment.

SurveySavvy is unique in that it allows you to cash out with only $1 in your account. They offer surveys for you to participate in, but their main focus is centered around their tool called SavvyConnect.

SavvyConnect is a tool that allows market research firms to view data from you surfing the internet. This data is aggregated and provides analysis for people's behavior online. This information is not sold off to other companies, and SavvyConnect uses it purely for research purposes.

Also, more surveys are available to people with SavvyConnect installed on their computer, so it is something to check out.

MindSwarms

MindSwarms is different from the other survey companies in that their surveys are done through video. While this might not be an ideal situation for you if you are camera shy, it is really worth considering since they pay $50 per survey.

Not only that, but the surveys are 7 questions and take less than 20 minutes.

That has to be the highest paying surveys per time spent that I know of. It gets even better in that you get paid your $50 via PayPal within 24 hours of completing the survey.

So even if you are camera shy, it is probably worth getting over to take advantage of MindSwarms.

Why would companies pay for your opinion?

In recent years, more and more companies are looking online for ways to test products, do market research, and find avenues to sample advertising ideas before putting them to market. Online survey sites work very well for this, as the companies can find large numbers of people within their target demographic to test these ideas on and to do further market research with. They also can do this at a lower cost to the company than traditional methods.

What makes this such a fertile ground for scammers is the fact that even legitimate survey companies need basic personal information in order to better serve the needs of the companies doing research. The more information you provide, the more detailed results the companies get. This is great for them, but scammers take this to the next level, as they may try to get more valuable information.

There are numerous legitimate, well-established survey companies (you can find some of these at the end), but as you will read below, there are common red flags for the less trustworthy sites.

What are some common safety pitfalls when looking for online survey companies?

Avoid sites that charge you for access.

Sites that offer access to thousands of surveys and life-changing income if you buy a certain package are looking for easy access to your wallet. Legitimate survey companies want a broad range of participants; as many as possible for the panel. So, charging for this access defeats that purpose.

There are companies who compile these surveys and send them out to you for a fee, and are not a scam. However, you are better off using a free site (like this one) where you can maximize your earnings.

Be cautious of sites offering to send you expensive products upon signup.

If a site offers to send you expensive products like game systems when you sign up, it is most likely too good to be true. If these companies were to send these products to every new person who signs up, it would not be cost effective. Product testing is a legitimate industry, but beware of a too good to be true offer.

Privacy policies, contact information, and disclaimers should be available on the site.

While I know most people avoid reading these, when you are giving personal information, you might want to look at these and see how the information will be used. If a site does not have these (usually at the bottom of the page), you might want to look for income elsewhere.

Contact information is another major clue. When these sites collect information for the research companies, they want things to be efficient. Without contact information, problems could go unnoticed for long periods. Be cautious of survey sites with no contact information, as it would seem they want your information without you getting theirs.

Do your homework

Research firms are the companies behind many of these survey panels. These are legitimate companies attempting to maximize the pool of users and information. Therefore, most of these companies can be found on the BBB site, where you can get more information on them. But it can really be even simpler than that. If it is a site you are not familiar with or have not seen on a trusted source (such as this site), do a simple Google search. You could search the company name and see if there are any listings of it on the scam reporting sites. The top survey companies are trusted and have a solid reputation.

What are they asking for?

Research companies want as much information as possible, as it allows for more thorough, detailed research. However, there is a limit on what they will ask you for. If they ask for critical information such as account numbers, card numbers, social security numbers, or anything to that level of detail, you should avoid that site. That information is something that could be used quickly to your detriment.

This could make it sound scary, so what sites should you use?

Though it sounds like there are thieves around every corner in this industry, it is similar to many industries. There are always potential scammers where money is to be made. To simplify this for you and help you get started, just focus on the top companies and add one or two more as you get comfortable with the process.

TIP: You will want to make a special email address for survey sites, as you will get a lot of emails from them all.

With online surveys, there are a large variety of sites that you can use to make money. While variety is good, it can also be bad because you can get caught up trying to make money with a survey site that just doesn't pay well. I'll explain a little more on that below.

In this quick article, I'll cover what at the worst online surveys will pay you, and at the best what you can be making (at least in my own experience). If you have any additional questions, don't be afraid to ask me in the comments. I'm more than happy to help you out with anything.

If You Don't Know The Best Survey Companies

Since for Survey Chris I actually try out these companies before I review them, I have spent time on some of the worse survey companies. I won't name any names right here, but I will make sure to never recommend a bad site to you.

The reason you may see a bad site recommended to you is because a lot of survey sites pay you to refer people to them. Now in the wrong hands, this could mean that every survey company gets a glowing review, as a hopes to send people over to them.

This is different on Survey Chris. I feel that giving you honest information will pay off more than simply trying to make money by sending you to every site that will pay me. Especially because I know these sites, so if they are bad and frustrating, I have personally experienced that. There's no reason you should go through it as well if I already know it.

With some of these survey sites, I have made as little as $1-$3 an hour. That is not a good return, even for working from my computer from home. The reason this payout can be so little is because some sites aren't good at taking your demographic into consideration. This means that they are constantly sending you surveys that you don't qualify for.

So I would end up spending time taking the initial screening survey only to get disqualified after a few minutes, sometimes longer if the sites are really bad. Eventually, I'll get a survey, but this has been after a numerous amount of tries and tons of failed surveys.

When this happens, you end up making not very much money is a long period of time.

On the bright side however, with trying so many sites, I have come across quite a few that I will gladly recommend to you, and will tell you how much you can expect to earn with these good sites.

When Using the Best Sites

If you know the right sites, you are on a great path to making upwards of around $9 an hour. Now if you know all the right sites and the strategies to use all of them in combination the best way, I would say you could get that up to around $12 an hour, at least in my experience.

So to answer the question you came here to find out, can you actually get paid to test products?

Absolutely

While I spend most of my time on this website reviewing and talking about taking surveys online, I have tried and really enjoy using product testing. It is a great way to get free stuff and make some extra money.

Why Are Companies are Paying You to Test Products

These companies are not only sending out products for you to try and often times keep, but they are paying you to do so.

The way that this works is that a business who is either launching a product or has one on the market, hires a market research firm to get them feedback on their product. This market research firm has survey and product testing panels that users can sign up and join  (You can see my list of the 8 best product testing jobs here).

These market research companies need to get people like you and I to test these products and review them. The reason they pay you money on top of giving you the free product is that they need to incentivize you not to just get the product and not review them. That would mean that they failed at their job.

So to get you to not just take the product for free and move on, they offer you either cash, or points that can be redeemed for cash or gift cards as a reward for reviewing the products. This way, everyone gets what they want. The product company gets feedback on their products, the market research firm has completed their clients work, and you get a free product and something extra, like money or a gift card.

Everyone wins.

Somethings you should know before jumping in to product testing is that you don't alway get to keep the stuff they send you. This is because they sometimes send you big products, such as a game consul, to test out (don't try to keep these products, they obviously have your personal information if they are mailing you things).

However, often times you do get to keep the free stuff and often times it is food. Everyone likes free food.

A lot of the things they send haven't even be released yet to the general public. They are sending you the products to test out and give them feedback on so that they can get it right before fully launching their product. You may get just about anything imaginable with product testing.

One strategy that I recommend for being a product tester is to sign up for as many companies as possible, then accept as many invitations as you get. Since most companies are online survey companies and product testing companies, they tend to send out more surveys then product campaigns.

However, if you are signed up for a bunch of product testing companies, then you will have way more opportunities. And if you accept all these opportunities and follow through with quality reviews, then these companies are more willing to send you more invitations. They want to avoid scams (people just taking products and not reviewing) as much as you do.

If you show you are trustworthy and a good reviewer, then you are going to get more invitations.

I have mentioned PineCone Research quite a few times throughout this website. But only know have I gone in and dug deep into whether or not PineCone Research is a legitimate survey panel or a scam you should avoid.

Let's get to the heart of the post first.

*Disclosure:  Right here in my reviews is where I typically tell you I only write reviews about websites that I have personally used either until I cash out, or figure out that the website is not a legit site. However, I am making an exception for PineCone Research that I believe you will appreciate.

I haven't used PineCone Research, but that isn't from a lack of trying. 

If you read my post of the 3 most exclusive survey panels, you'd see PineCone Research is in there. I have tried multiple times to sign up for PineCone Research, and will continue trying periodically. 

They are exclusive, and for good reason. They are completely legit, pay out in cash very quickly, and have great product testings. I'll cover all that more, but the point of me bringing it up here is that PineCone Research, because they are one of the best survey companies out there now, are able to be very selective in who they pick.

They have you fill out your profile before you sign up, and then will determine if they accept you or not. You can search around the internet for what kind of profile they are taking, but that won't help. They adjust depending on what the demographics of their current users are, or if they get a new client who needs to reach a specific demographic.

If I were you, I would bookmark their invitation page (you can't reach it unless you have a specific link, which I have gotten for you), and I would try periodically to sign up, if you don't get it the first time.

Users on this blog have been accepted multiple times, so it is very possible.

If you do get accepted, just know I am jealous of you.

Who is PineCone Research Ran By?

PineCone Research is ran by Nielsen a market research company based out of New York. 

Often times, a good place to check how legitimate survey panel is, is to check who the market research firm is behind them, and check out their Better Business Bureau's (BBB) profile.

Nielsen is obviously doing things right with their A+ rating. Seeing that they are their address listed with contact info makes me feel even better about using their survey panel. 

Along with a stellar BBB profile, Nielsen is also a member of Casro, which is an association for market research companies. Here is there member page. 

Not often times will I look this deep into a company, but since I personally haven’t used PineCone Research, I didn’t want to leave any rock unturned for the sake of you getting the best review possible. 

So PineCone Research is backed by a legitimate market research company. However, that doesn’t mean they are worth your time. There’s a difference between legitimate and good when it comes to survey panels. 

With that in mind, let’s move on to what you can expect to see if you get accepted into PineCone Research.

What Can You Expect as a Member?

Survey Rate: The survey rate for PineCone research appears to be lower than average at first glance. But when looking into a little deeper and comparing it to other companies, it’s actually really good.

While you may get emailed less surveys than other companies, since PineCone Research knows your demographic, they only send you surveys that you qualify for. This is different than other companies who send you every survey they have, but first you have to take a profiler survey first, and may not actually get to take the survey because you don’t qualify.

I really like this aspect of PineCone Research. I personally would rather like to get emailed less, but at the same time, spend less time filling out profile surveys and being disqualified.

Payouts: The payouts for PineCone Research are most of the reason I am writing this review for you without using the company. You get $3 for every survey starting out, but depending on how long you’ve been on the site, you will eventually start to make more money per survey.

For every survey you fill out, you are closer towards your next “pay raise”. You max out at $5, but getting a guaranteed $5 per survey is a really good deal.

What else is great about PineCone Research payouts is that they typically get the payment processed between 24 and 48 hours. You can get cash by direct bank transfer or check, which are usually the best options in my opinion.

Product Testing: Another cool thing that PineCone Research does, and another reason they are exclusive is that they do product testing. Companies that do product testing have to be more secure about who their members are since they are literally mailing you free stuff to use and tryout. 

If you take surveys for PineCone Research, sometimes the client behind the survey wants you to have a chance to test out the product the survey was about. Sometimes you won’t even be notified you were selected and the product will just show up randomly at your house with instructions.

Contests: PineCone Research also holds bi-weekly contests for $500. Every survey you complete gets you an automatic entry into the contests. So not only does doing more surveys get you into a higher pay scale, it also gets you more chances to win $500 every two weeks.

Mobile App: Unfortunately PineCone Research doesn’t have a mobile app. I’m always looking for good survey companies with apps so that I can make money on the go.

So now that you have an idea of what to expect with your membership, let’s look at the overall pros and cons to PineCone Research. These are coming straight from the mouths of current users.
