Etisalat cheapest data plan for Android and iOS - 2GB for N2000

Etisalat is well known for it's fast internet services in the country, but unlike other network operators in the country their services don't come cheap.

Well, that has changed since they recently launched a 2GB plan for N2000. Which is also similar to what Airtel and Glo offers, but from my little research Etisalat seems to be ahead when it comes to fast internet.

Modern Combat 5: Now available for free on Android and iOS

Gameloft's Modern Combat 5 which priced at $7 is now free to download on both the Play and App Store.

The new update all sees the game having new support like controller support, new soldier class and weapon class. For those who already purchased the game before now, you get to receive veteran status which gives you unlimited energy, 200 credits and a few more stuff .

Samsung unveils 128GB memory card for mid-range devices

Samsung has unveiled a 128GB 3-bit NAND based eMMC 5.0 mobile flash storage, capable of 260mb/s of sequential data reading.

The Memory card's IOPS speed which is said to be 10 times faster than that of the normal memory card, has been developed for a wide range of mobile device and will likely debut on a mid-ranged profile phone from the manufacturers.

The last time i wrote an article on Here maps i told you guys the iOS version was on its way. Well, HERE maps is now available on iOS and it packs all the features you can find on the Android version, such as offline navigation, voice guidance and much more. One of the very nice features of Here maps is that, if you walking, Here maps will give you directions, where to take a bus how long before the bus arrives, and when to get off the bus. it's that useful and no wonder the Android version of Here maps just crossed 4 million downloads, a leap from 3 million downloads in January.

Apple CarPlay will be available in all major car brands by the end of 2015

Apple has announced that due to the warm welcome and support from car manufactures around the world for its Car Play service, the service will be integrated into more car brand this year 2015.

For those who don't know what CarPlay is, CarPlay is an advanced technology thats is used to connect your car to your iPhone's music and and information systems and can be controlled via voice, the car's touchscreen interface as you can see in the image above or the car's traditional buttons. iPhones using the new CarPlay will be able to connect using Lightning connector, thereby directly pulling information and data from the iPhone and also charging it in the process.

Latest version of Dropbox for iOS 8 enables you upload files directly from other apps

Dropbox for iPhone and iPad has been updated to version 3.7 which comes with a new Action Extension that lets you upload files directly from an app to Dropbox. Unlike before when you would have to open the cloud storage app to perform this function.

To use the Action Extension, simply open an image or file and tap the share button, scroll to the far right of the button row of gray icons, tap more (...) and click the "save to Dropbox" option. You can also drag the extension icon to place ant where in the list.

Other features in this new version include.

Bug fixes and improvement related to moving and deleting files, printing and exporting, RTF previews and password protected files.
Better experience receiving shared links on iPhone when visiting a shared link, supported files will show an option to "Open in app" that takes you to Dropbox.

HERE map for Android leaves beta with improved features

HERE map for Android has finally left beta stage. If you check the Play Store now you won't be seeing the beta tag anymore. The new version of HERE maps also arrived with some improvement and bug fixes.

HERE for Android improvement and bug fixes include

3D maps: maps for venues like shopping malls and airports are now three-dimensional.

Interaction: when you tap on any place icon on the map, its going to give more information about the place, and you’ll get information about what’s causing traffic jams.

Improved routes: the improved route now enables you view driving, public transport, and walking routes on the same screen so you can quickly make your choice.

Map Downloads: offline country maps can now be downloaded in the background while you do other things. And the download progress will be shown in the notification drawer.

Voice navigation: turn-by-turn navigation volumes for directions has been increased due to numerous complaints from uers about the voice being too low.

There's also been a couple of bug fixes and talks about an iOS version of HERE maps on its way.

Monitor the 2015 Nigerian election with the MTN BetterME app

MTN Nigeria has teamed up with the independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to develop the election monitoring app called BetterME which has been designed to bring transparency to the electoral process through real time online election monitoring, voters education and engagement. The app which will enable Nigerians both within and outside the country to witness and participate in the electoral process is said to have inbuilt curators that would make it very difficult for hackers to distort the streaming of content because the content would directly emanate from INEC or any other credible agency like NOA.

Key features of the app include

An inbuilt content on voter education

Access to information on candidates for the elections, their plans and manifestos as well as their strategic thrust and policy direction of the various political parties.

Curate and upload contents like videos on the app where people on election day can show information around their areas and the way the voting is being conducted though the feature is yet to be integrated

To download the app just send the keyword 2015 to 131 via SMS and an SMS containing the download link will then be sent to your device.

Microsoft recently announced that users who still run it's desktop OS from Windows 7 and above will be able to upgrade to the new Windows 10 for free for the first one year after launch. So if you using Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 you will be able to upgrade without any cost. Although, how Microsoft plans to go about the upgrade is yet to be known.

However, Microsoft also announced that there be an update for the Windows Phone 8.1 users. How they also plan to go about this is also yet to be known, but one thing that is clear is, Microsoft wants the adoption of its new OS to be a quick one.

The Technical Preview for January has also been made available for download on their dedicated website.
