The show is winding down and I bet you thought that meant that the show lengths would be winding down as well. Boy were you wrong. In what will likely be the second longest episode of the show, we dive deep into the end title cards and try and contextualize what happens to our friends after the cameras are turned off. We learn the origins of the Puget Sound conservatory, educate ourselves about the history of the Battle of Khe Sanh, and then we try and lighten the mood by coming up with the backstory of why the relationship between Lenny and Kitty didn't work out. The show is winding down but we're determined to go out with a bang instead of a whimper.

102: Pomp and Circumstance

We're two days into our final week and we've already gone off the rails before we even reach the credits. This episode starts with a tangent about who’s the best Tom, before we get into this episode's starts and ends with, then we talk about what Lamarr is up to now that the Ambassador hotel is no more, sing this awesome 90's romantic music, and try and discern what Mr. White is up to now that he has left the Wonders behind. There's a heated discussion about which is worse, emotional or physical cheating which leads to our first curse word uttered by one of our hosts and we try and figure out what happens when Guy and Faye go back to the hotel room. There's so much more including talk about American landmarks and fourth wall breaking so strap yourself in for a marathon episode, we may have gone a little overboard with the final episode of the film portion of the podcast.

It may be our most bizarrely musical episode yet!

We bust out the inflation calculator again, and after a conversation about the origins of the phrase 'chump change' we finally start to over analyze and ultra scrutinize the body language in this minute of the movie which leads to the longest conversation about a single topic in the shows history, and you'll never guess what it is. There's a point where we spend entirely too long analyzing the audience at the Hollywood Television Showcase and the computer up and died at that point. We bored the laptop so much it crashed and had to pick up the conversation trying to figure out where TB Player is while this performance is going on. A whole lot a speculation going on in this investigative Friday episode!

84: Insane in the Brain

(The Hollywood TV Showcase Host's name is Troy Chesterfield by the way, don't know how we missed that one. He and Tom Hanks have worked together a bunch, we'll get into it tomorrow.)

We are joined today by super special guest Lynn Barron from The Sweep Spot, a podcast from people who have worked for the big mouse! Lynn lends us his expertise about all things Disney-mania, which is apropos as this minute features the big guy himself, Mickey Mouse and his best friend Goofy, who both play themselves in this film. We find out what Lynn's history with the film is as well as get a history lesson about what Disneyland would have looked like back in 1964, and what steps the production staff took to make this sequence look as if it was taking place in this time period. We nitpick a few details, but overall give massive props for putting so much detail into such a short sequence. There are plenty of tangents here, as well as some extended cut funniness, and a whole lot of Disney nerd-ery in this jumbo sized episode. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Guy finally meets his hero Del, and we finally officially learn that Guy served in the military. This revelation leads to us trying to place the movie in the history of the time, and we get most of it right, and one small detail very wrong (The Summer of Sam is set in 1977). The show's getting back on track and we're getting ready to have a few more guests before we bring That Thing You Do! Minute! to a dramatic conclusion.

A couple of the band members are having a difficult time adjusting to the scene change as they become star struck by a couple of the Playtone Galaxy of Stars. We spend some time trying to match Diane Dane and Freddie Fredrickson to their real-life counterparts, are pretty sure that The Chantrellines are supposed to be the Supremes, and have another trip into the imdb trivia bucket. After some speculation as to the whereabouts of these two actors, we discuss a fleeting glance between Diane and Jimmy, and how Lenny and Guy can't keep their cool in this situation. Sommer continues to wonder at the awesome hairdo on Diane, and finally, we segue into more scenes from the directorial cut.

43: I Wear my Sunglasses at the Fair

Guy gets his signature look from Mr. White before they join the Playtone Galaxy in Columbus, but first, Guy needs to phone home to give Papa Patterson the good news. Dad doesn't seem to take the news well which leads to a revelation about Darlene that is rather upsetting. We try and decide which is better, Ray-Ban or Foster Grant before we transition to the fairground where the band is presented their first official Playtone record. Topics of discussion include: how the fairground makes money, special collectors vinyl, more extra talk, and a brief digression as to what constitutes 'backstage' at a fair. Missing from the discussion is the fact that when Jimmy pulls the record out of the sleeve he's looking at the B-side, a small but probably crucial point.

42: Here Til August

We return to Mr. White's spiel, and get a smidge of bad news from T.B. Player, which gives the band a deadline of the end of August. It's a dour minute as everyone's favorite sheepish boy informs us that he signed up for the Marine Corps back home and as such will have to report to South Carolina at that time. Mr. White takes this news in stride as we get mixed reactions from the rest of the band, but it will remain a mystery until tomorrow why Mr. White calls out Guy at the end of this minute. We discuss the Zahn Zinger Quotient again, discuss character motivations, give Jimmy the business for not wanting to admit that Faye is his girlfriend, get into the genealogy of the name Kosslovitch which leads us to talk about a serious subject, learn a little bit of trivia about the Marine Corps and their training facilities, tangent all over the place, and try and come up with silly character names.

41: Sign Your Life Away

Today we hit the ground running with a joke that comes pre approved by half the hosting team as we continue to witness the Wonders' meteoric rise. Mr. White comes at Guy hard with the business negotiations, and we continue to give Tak Fujimoto his due for setting up some stellar shots. We join the band immediately after they sign their Playtone contracts, and speculate as to what instructions Mr. White had for them before we enter the scene. Nick continues to be confused as to the title of the b-side, Sommer proclaims a Zahn Zinger her "favorite joke in the movie," and we try and figure out why Mr. White takes exception to Guy being described as a Nice Boy. We take an early stab at figuring out which boy band stereotypes each of the band members would fit into, and we try and come to terms with our love/hate relatioship withJohnathon Schaech/Jimmy.

40: Phil the Bird Dog

Guy does a lot of hemming and hawing until Mr. White mentions every budding musicians favorite word, tour. We also break down how far the gang have travelled in such a short time, and of course, tangent into a bunch of topics including moving long distances, life changing moments, celestial based naming systems, and why are celebrities called stars? And of course it wouldn’t be another episode without a few nuggets of advice. So remember, keep looking up.

39: Hanks' the First, the Last, My Everything

We discuss what it takes to be a front man of a band, and whether drummers are generally thought of as the center of music groups. It's a surprisingly focused episode as we keep the digressions to a minimum out of respect for the one, the only, Papa Hanks.

38: Tired of Waiting for Hanks

37: Trouble!

We scrutinize more of Kevin Pollack's performance, including his need for nicotine, and his lack of control of the sound crew. We stumble into Sommer's question corner which leads to some classic community theater gaffes, which leads to a cryptic conversation about a show that Nick and Sommer did together, a show about Musclebound Snakes that enjoy canned meats. A lot. Sommer regales us with a tale of stage managing a show where an actor gets arrested before entering River City, and we fritter away the rest of the time we have left on this episode talking about sad and funny stories of failed performances that we were reminded of by this minute.

36: Cool to Hate

He draws a comparison to a certain small handed orange monster, and we talk other characters that scared Sommer as a child. (Monkey Trouble trailer) Talking about monkey movies sends us on a tangent about our favorite simian Films, before Nick viciously slanders the art of ventriloquism. This sends Nick on a path about a Batman villain he barely remembers, before we get back to the minute and pull the podcast train into the Monday station.

35: Movin' On Down

We go through his illustrious credits and have some dubious thoughts about what he actually did in Wayne's World 2. Tina pops back in for a quick phone call, which spurns a long conversation about phone calls in films. Once we get through the theatrical minute we also have a pretty lengthy discussion about the extended cut, including an extended scene between Guy and Phil, the band arriving at the venue, checking out the stage, and getting comfortable in a dressing room. Tina regales Guy with her dentistry plans, while Guy gloats about his song being on the radio. Sommer gives Nick a lesson on what a wet set is, and we make a quick comparison between Tina and Faye. Luckily, Charlize Theron is in this minute, so it can't be all bad. Watch out, or tangent this minute is a doosy.
