You’ve probably heard Debbie Russ on the station as she presents one of our new shows, the chill out show on Lovesongs247.com. You probably also recognise her voice from a few of the adverts in between the songs.

We thought we’d catch up with Debbie, as the show’s been running for a few weeks now, so she could talk to us a bit about why she loves presenting the Chill Out show on Thursdays and Sundays, and why Lovesongs247.com is the perfect radio station to listen to when you’re looking for love on online dating sites.

We also thought we’d pick her brains about one of her characters that she plays very convincingly, Pepper Dove. R: I'm joined now in the studio by Debbie Russ, who's one of the presenters on Lovesongs247.com. Debbie, you present the chill out show, just tell us a little bit about that.

D: Chill out is the perfect sound for relaxing with a loved one to get you in the mood for love or if you're on the dating websites to help you in the frame of mind to find the person that you can love.

R: SO as well as being one of the presenters on the station, you also do some of the adverts as well. One of which is Pepper Dove, who is an interesting character, just tell me a little bit about her.

D: I'm very fond of Pepper, she's a bit of a man eater, but I think in her heart she's quite lonely and desperate for love and she's also quite playful I think, and a bit of a cougar. She's quite fun to do.

How do you get the perfect online dating profile?

You've bitten the bullet and you've signed up for an online dating site in your quest for love. The first thing you need to do is create your profile. It has to be right - you want to attract the right people. What do you write? Is there anything you really should'nt say?

We thought the best way to find out was to ask someone from Older Dating Online about how to set up the perfect profile. Rod from the Dating Show podcast had a chat with Em from Older Dating Online. E: It's very important to have a good profile on the website because this is your chance to show yourself off to other members before you first speak to them. So, your profile is the first thing people are going to be looking at before they decide to message you. So, if your profile doesn't show you in a positive light, people are more likely to just pass you by.

R: So what sort of things make a good online dating profile?

E:. I think it is important to keep it simple, as people won't be bothered to read a really long detailed paragraph. You don't want to give too much away. The idea is to leave them wanting more and intrigue someone enough to make them want to message you and find out more. All you need to do really is write a little about yourself. So, are you single, divorced, widowed? What do you do for a living? What do you like to do in your spare time? It's also good to let others know what it is you are looking for on the dating website. So, identify whether you want to meet people in a particular age range or with certain habits, like non-smoking for example. And, I would say, a touch of humour in the profile and the photos are always good and go a long way.

R: Ok. And the photo? That's got to be important as well because if you're looking around and you can't see the person then that's going to put people at a disadvantage isn't it?

E: Yes, definitely. I think a photo on your profile is equally, if not more important than writing something about yourself. So, people are a lot less likely to chat to someone with online dating if they can't see what they look like. So, the photos probably the first thing people are going to look at when looking for a date online and people tend to know instinctively if they find that person attractive from their photos. So, yes, it is very important, yes.

R: And how honest should you be with both, because in a way you are trying to sell yourself to try and attract people but should you be totally honest with the photos?

E: I think you should always be very honest with both of them because the truth will come out in the end. Starting an online relationship where you haven't been totally honest with each other won't go very well for a long-term relationship. By all means use a photograph of yourself where you are looking at absolutely at your best but there is a difference between using this and a photograph of a model. R: Now, you work in the customer care team at Older Dating Online. What are the stats on all this? If somebody has got a photo and a profile, how much more likely are they to meet somebody and have a date?

E: Your chances of meeting someone online are 100 times better if you've written something about yourself and have a few good photos. You can't help but sometimes be sceptical when people talk to you about dating sites. Do they actually work? Sure, you may meet people, but can you form long lasting relationships from them?

We thought we'd have a chat with someone who successfully found online after using an internet dating site. Jilly Hudson met with Eliza from the Dating Show in London to have a chat. Jilly says she's now with the man of her dreams. She had some very exciting news to share with us.

E: So, this is after how long?
J: We met in October last year. We were talking to each other for?around about a month before we met up and it's really gone from there. I just instantly knew that he was the one.
E: Where did you go for your first date?
J: Our first date was actually one of the coldest dates ever at Kew? Gardens (south west London, UK) and we just spent the whole time?walking and getting to know each other because until then, all our? Communication had been by email
E: Why did you choose a place like Kew Gardens? Often people go and have? A meal or they go for a drink, why did you choose to go to Kew Gardens?
J: I didn't choose it. He did. So, it was his choice about spending the?day there but they've got like a little cafe and stuff there, so we?could have some lunch but also it's quite mutual territory where we?could just like walk and chat and just get to know each other.
E: So it's sort of took the pressure off in the sense that you didn't? find yourself facing somebody that you couldn't talk to? You had?something that you could talk about as you walked around on your date?
J: Exactly.....look around at what was going on there.
E: I know that it wasn't always easy to find somebody when you were?online dating? It took time and you had to keep looking, and there were?times when it was quite disappointing? How was that period for you?
J: It was quite challenging because as somebody who is naturally quite? Shy, taking the knocks can actually be quite tough but you've got to? Actually be resilient and not take it too personally.
E: Now tell me, how did it actually feel when you knew that the chap?that you had met, when you got to Kew Gardens and you kinda knew that? This guy was the one? How did that feel that you had found him?
J: It was lovely. We had been talking to each other? For so long it was just finally meeting him was absolutely fantastic.? What was nice was that it just felt so natural and we just didn't stop? Talking all day.

A true story of a first date, when we ended up talking about cheese

We’ve all experienced a first date, haven’t we? We all know how scary it can be. It’s terrifying whatever the situation, whether you’re meeting up with someone you’ve met on one of those online dating sites, if it’s a date set up by friends or even if it’s someone you asked out after meeting them in a bar. Is the venue appropriate? There’s nothing worse than going to a restaurant with someone who doesn’t like anything on the menu or going to a bar where you both feel awkward and out of place.

Then you have to worry about what to wear. Do you go formal? Do you go smart-casual? Are jeans appropriate if you’re a man, or should you wear something a little bit smarter? For girls, does the make up work? Are the clothes flattering and are they sending the right signal? There’s so much to think about on a first date. It seems like you spend more time worrying about the date then you actually do on the date. At The Dating Show, we thought the best way to answer some of these questions was to test out a first date ourselves, so we sent Rod on a first date with someone he’d been chatting with an online dating site for a few weeks in his quest for love. So this is what happened. We’d arranged to meet up in a chic, expensive looking bar in a posh part of North London at 7 o'clock UK time on a rainy Monday after chatting for a while online on one of those online dating sites. I arrived about 10 minutes early. I was wearing nice jeans and a checked shirt. I thought I looked alright really! I texted my date, Em, who’s in her late thirties, ordered a rather expensive small beer, sat in the corner and a few minutes later she arrived. She was a vision in black. She was petite, and had dark hair and olive green eyes. She’s rather quirky, which I’d already worked out by some of her messages and the two phone calls we've already had. She recognized me straight away, smiled and said I look just like my photo – which to be honest, I didn’t really expect. It shows you that it’s always good to upload an honest picture when you’re looking for love online dating sites.

I told her she looked like her picture on the dating site too. She ordered a glass of white wine and we started chatting face to face, sitting opposite each other over a cosy, candlelit table. We spoke about music, our jobs, hobbies and the conversation flowed very well. We spent an age talking about cheese. We were there for around two hours and I enjoyed myself as I found her rather attractive. I had to leave and catch the train, and she offered to walk me to the tube station, pointing out her home on the way. A kiss on the cheek, and she was gone into the night. I sent her a text from the train, thanking her for the lovely evening and letting her know that I was nearly home. She replied almost straight away, thanking me and wishing me a safe journey. I thought it was best to leave it a bit before I replied, so I left it 24 hours, then texted her again to see how she was. We then arranged to meet up again on Friday.

Em wanted to go for a walk, so again we met at the same tube station. This time, she was dressed in a blue top and jeans. First of all we decided to have a cup of tea, then after that, we strolled off for a long walk around the park, which was quite stunning with all the autumn colours. Again, we chatted all afternoon. If I’m honest, the conversation was interesting, intelligent and even a little bit flirty. Within no time at all, we were holding hands, which felt nice and real. After the walk, we decided to go for a pizza and a glass of wine.

Then it was back to the station and a solo journey home. We were there for five hours and we've been texting each other ever since. I feel like I’m attached to my phone as I keep looking at it waiting for the next message to arrive. E: We get advice about creating a online dating profile that works.

R: Now...love at first sight – does it really exist..?

E: Yes?

R: Does it?

E: Of course!

R: Have you ever seen someone and gone WOWWW!

E: You know that's the sort of thing with aliens isn't it? You hear about it existing but you have never actually seen one and....it's true, I've never actually fallen in love at first sight.

R: I have! Now researchers in America in Ohio have recently carried out a study which reveals that people do actually decide on what sort of relationship they want in the first 3 minutes of meeting someone.

E: Well I think that is definitely true.

R: I mean, I decided within 3 minutes that I didn't fancy you at all!

E: -tired laughter!- Is it true that you take 3 minutes? It's all about body language and stuff like that isn't it.

R: So, here on The Dating Show from Lovesongs247.com, we wanted to find someone who had found their perfect match with online dating. We met up with Jilly Hudson from London (UK) who found love using internet dating. She spoke to us at a windy cafe on the South Bank of the river Thames in London, England and gave us some rather exciting news.

J: We've decided we're to move in together!

R: Ruud on a first date, should people be smart or casual?

Rd: I don't know actually.

R: Smart or casual?

Rd: Yes. On a first date, it's always difficult, You need to make a good impression. Maybe yes.....maybe one half smart, one half casual. Smart on the top, casual on the bottom.

E: What clothing items do you think are real dating winners?

Rd: I think the flared trousers are coming back into fashion definitely. Wide flares, like YOU are wearing. They are from the 70's but they are coming back into fashion...flared trousers and very tight tops. For the women anyway.

R: Should you actually go out and buy a special outfit or just stick with what you know?

Rd: Well in YOUR case, I think it's obvious that you need to go out and buy a special outfit.

Rd:.....but in the case of this lovely lady here....you know...wear what you are wearing. Beautiful. No problem “baby”.

This month on the 'dating show' the team look into personal security when dating and all gets awkward with a body language expert.

R: In this edition of the Dating Show we look at your security when internet dating and we find out about an internet radio station called Lovesongs247.com which many daters are tuning in to while they are looking for a partner.

E: And Pierre our resident dating expert looks at body language.

R: Just out of interest, where did we get Pierre from? Have you met him?

E: I haven't met him but there is somebody sitting on the sofa and to be honest...if that is Pierre, I think there has been some terrible mistake. He's a body language expert? He gives you no eye contact at all!

R: He's a little bit odd.

E: ...I have to say..

R: One eye was looking at me and the other was looking for me

R: Ok. Now your security when doing anything these days is vital and so it is the case when internet dating. How safe really are you? We decided to look into this and have a chat with Emma, who works in the customer care team at OlderDatingOnline.com

E: Every photo profile or message, diary entry, icebreaker that is loaded onto the system by a member will actually be submitted to the moderation team and the moderator will then be required to have a look at the submission in order to make sure that the content is suitable for the website but most importantly to ensure that that member is genuine.

So, there are lots of things that we take into consideration when looking for scammer on a OlderDatingOnline.com. These are things like checking the sign up information. So, checking that that matches with the location and address that has been provided with registration. To check that they are where they say they are. There are also some scammers who try to pretend that they are different ages, so depending on the site, you can tell if they are likely to be suitable for OlderDatingOnline.com.

We do a lot of checks on personal details, your location, income, marital status, ethnicity and religion of the member. All of these can indicate a scammer.....and then any profile changes which are uploaded are moderated. We can pick out certain words in the text, such as god-fearing, soul mate, honest, caring. These tend to indicate that it could be a scammer. The scammers will often just use a long list of adjectives to describe things. Then dating profile photo's. We can check to see if they appear anywhere else on the internet. Good looking and professional looking photos which tend to make the person look too good to be true, generally will belong to a scammer.

And finally, private messages of dating website scammers will be impersonal and brief and may use terms such as `hello dear` or `hello beauty` and they are often trying to get daters to give up their privacy measures to try and take the conversation away from the site and therefore away from our moderation. So, we're looking out for those things.

We also have a system by which dating members can report other members that they may come across on the website. So, if a member is concerned about a certain members behaviour, they can let us know by clicking a button and we can check that person out within 20 minutes of receiving the report.

R: It sounds like there is quite a lot there. When you are on these sites, how much information should you give out to people you are chatting too? Should you give out your mobile number or your personal email address? So, that ahead of the date, if you have arranged a date, or should you not?

E:I would advise not giving out any personal information until you have conversed with that other member looking for love for a reasonable amount of time and you trust that they seem to be genuine. If the conversation flows well and it is a two-way conversation, where you are both asking and answering questions, then the person is likely to be genuinely looking for love. So, then it's fine to give out your email address and mobile number and take it from there but, I would advise against giving out your address until you have at least met the person. By all means, once you've been chatting to someone for a little while, talking on the phone is a fairly good gauge of whether they are who they say they are.

R: and when you actually have found somebody and have arranged a date, is it a good idea to maybe arrange to meet at a neutral place and tell people where you are going, just as an added level of security?

E: Yes, definitely I would say, always meet somebody in a public place for a first date. A coffee bar or something like that and let a friend know where you are going. So, keep yourself safe. I don't think meeting in a private home is a very good idea.

R: And, there has been in the last months or so, been media reports about some internet dating sites, some companies, sending out false messages, winks and that. What would you say to those to those reports?

E: There have been some reports in the media that some dating websites do this but all of our websites are user generated.

R: Nice to meet you Pierre, thank you for coming on the programme. Can I just start by saying body language is a very interesting sort of topic. How did you first get involved in all that?

P: I know. I like being close to people. I like being especially the ladies. I like to learn about them by being up close to them, you know?

R: Yes. I mean I was going to ask you as well. What is the right distance? If you are on a first date? What is the right distance?

P: As close as possible of course!

R: I realise that because at the moment you are sitting on my lap!

P: ….very comfortable....

R: I find that a bit intimidating but …..

P: Only because you are not like a Frenchmen. You are not in touch with your feminine side. If you are comfortable, you will feel comfortable with me sitting here.

R: Right.

P: ….warming you up....

R: Right.....What about other things like, if you are talking to a woman. If she is playing with her hair, is that a good sign?

P: I like a woman to play, yes. Especially with the hair, with the feet, with the hands. Anything to play with a woman. Very nice.

E: Pierre can you raise your eyes a little when you are speaking to me.

P: I can not. They are fixed. I am not very tall. What can I say.

R: Do you have ANY tips Pierre?

P: Well yes of course. But, not in front of the ladies.
