The prospect of carrying around a DSLR is a daunting one. To say the least they’re cumbersome cameras, but on the upside they take amazing photos that put most if not all point and shoot cameras to shame. However, in recent years there has been an influx of pocketable DSLRs, thanks to the likes of Olympus, Nikon, and a few others. Now joining the ranks is Canon, who today officially introduced the EOS M Digital Camera.

It’s a mirrorless setup that promises stunning images, crisp HD video, and a depth of field that promises to take on its bigger brother. In fact, the EOS M Digital Camera boasts a comparable technical setup to that of Canon’s Rebel T4i. And by that we’re referring to Canon’s hybrid CMOS AF that is said to deliver fast autofocus speed for video and photos – it combines phase-difference AF and contrast AF to achieve operational stability, speed and precision. For those shooting in low light, or bright, the EOS M digital camera’s IOS can range from 100 – 12800 (expandable to 25600 in H mode) in still mode, or 100–6400 (expandable to 12800 in H mode) for video recording. There is also an 18-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, and a 3-inch 1.04MP smudge resistant touchscreen that boast pinch to zoom and touch to AF (there is no electronic viewfinder, though one can be added using the built-in hot shoe).

The EOS M Digital Camera will ship with Canon’s newest pancake lens, the the EF-M 22mm, which is capable of reaching an f-stop of 2. That being said, the total weight will be 14.2 ounces, though you can probably adjust for some extra fat when you attach the optional EF-M 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens, though that’s a caveat we’re willing to accept for a greater focal length.

Canon’s EOS M Digital Camera will ship this October with the EF-M 22mm lens for $799.99. It will be available in black or white. The optional 18-55mm kit will sell for $299.99, though you’ll be able to buy an adapter to use the EOS M with the full line of Canon EF and EF-S lenses.

So you love going snorkeling, and while you are at it, why not snap
some photos? After all, it makes perfect sense to capture the overall
feeling of wonder whenever you are swimming a few feet below the sea’s
surface, not to mention having that surreal environment which is a whole
lot calmer (in most cases, unless you jump right into the middle of a
feeding frenzy) than what we get up here on solid ground. For those who
are wondering whether to purchase a waterproof case for your digital
camera, you might want to consider an alternative – the iGills SE-35,
where the name itself gives the game away.

Basically, the iGills SE-35’s primary function would be to make sure
your iPhone remains nice and dry despite you being underwater, but it
will also do far more than that. In fact, the iGills SE-35 is said to be
able to transform your iPhone into a fully-featured dive computer. This
is a waterproof scuba diving case that works great in protecting the
iPhone nice and dry down to depths of 130 feet (40 meters), and it also
makes life easy for you to use underwater thanks to half a dozen buttons
that have been integrated into the design.

Not only that, you will be able to retain access to your iPhone’s
camera to shoot underwater images, while the iGills SE-35 will also come
with a complementary app that paves the way for you to take advantage
of its navigation tools. Are your surroundings too dark? Not to worry,
there is also a built-in torch to help you out here, with of course, an
automatic dive log to boot.

Polycarbonate is the material of choice for the iGills SE-35’s
housing, where it is said to feature similar material used to
manufacture bulletproof glass, and it will place nice with all iPhones
except for the original iPhone from 2007 and the iPhone 3G. Basically,
anything from the iPhone 3GS and newer will work, although I do think
that it will not work with the next generation iPhone. You cannot
receive data transmission or make calls when underwater though, but that
should not be an issue. The iGills SE-35 has a pre-order price of
$329.99 a pop.

The world of smartphone accessories is an interesting one, where many
manufacturers zoom in on a particular make and model and start churning
them out by the hundreds of thousands, be it cases or screen protectors
as well as speaker add-ons. Of course, some third party manufacturers
are even more daring, deciding to come up with a case for a yet
unreleased device – as this had already happened with the iPhone 5 (or
next generation iPhone, depending on how you want to call it). Seidio is
much more conservative with their latest device release, announcing the
Seidio Desktop Charging Cradle that caters for a range of HTC devices
such as the HTC EVO 4G LTE, HTC One X, and HTC One S.

This would mean only the fairly recent and more powerful handsets
from HTC are the ones being catered to here – if you are using a
mid-range or entry level HTC device, then you can forget about it.
Seidio hopes that the design philosophy of timeless and elegant products
will be captured by the Desktop Charging Cradle, touting it to be an
ideal accessory for the desk of the business professional. Is it really?
Only those who have bought and used it are able to tell.

Sporting a unique design which enables one to synchronize and juice
up your HTC smartphone simultaneously, it ensures your HTC device will
always remain powered up at all times.

David Chang, CEO of Seidio, said, “This charging cradle is the final
accessory to round out the full-line of products we [Seidio] offer for
the HTC devices. Our goal is to provide our consumers with a complete
system solution for their mobile device. The Desktop Charging Cradle
works seamlessly with Seidio’s HTC cases and, of course, the smartphone
itself.”

What makes the David Chang, CEO of Seidio so different from the other
somewhat similar products on the market? For starters, it functions
with or without a Seidio ACTIVE or SURFACE case, so you need not worry
about removing a protective case while you dock the device, all thanks
to a tiny albeit sturdy connector piece. The dock will also be able to
hold your smartphone in a horizontal position to deliver a perfect
viewing angle whenever you want to enjoy movies, pictures and other
multimedia formats.

It comes in an all-black cradle with a smooth, matte finish, in
addition to Seidio’s signature soft-touch coating. The external layer
will ensure the cradle remains clean, resisting fingerprints, dirt and
grime, while a discreet power LED light will be located on the back of
the unit. You can pick up the Seidio Desktop Charging Cradle for $29.95 a
pop.

iHome iP76 LED color changing speaker tower - There are speakers, and then to jazz things up a bit in your humble abode, there are speaker towers. The iHome iP76 can be said to reside in the latter category, sporting a full name of the iHome iP76 LED color changing speaker tower. Well, what makes this speaker tower from iHome so different from the rest that you might want to check it out for yourself? For starters, the name itself gives the game away – you are able to experience a snazzy light show as you listen to your favorite tunes being played back over this particular speaker.

Not only does the light show dazzle the eyes, your ears, too, will be treated to quality audio although I would say this particular model will target the average home user and not an audiophile, who will surely have a thing or two (or perhaps far more) to criticize about. Those who want to spruce up your pad will certainly be able to do well with the iHome iP76 LED color changing speaker tower. After all, it does come with Bluetooth connectivity so that there will be far less cables for you to worry about in your home.

Standing proud at three feet tall, this décor-enhancing showpiece will come with 16 multi-color LED clusters which are more than capable of churning out exciting light effects while delivering smooth sounds thanks to the quartet of high performance speakers. Not only that, as mentioned earlier, the untethered audio experience will let you live a life of freedom thanks to Bluetooth connectivity.

Evan Stein, Director of Marketing, iHome, said, “With its unique design and color-changing capabilities, the iP76 is both a visual and audio delight that is as much fun to look at as it is to listen to. Most importantly, the speaker tower produces vibrant audio for your listening pleasure.”

The iP76 LED Color Changing Tower Bluetooth Stereo Speaker System is capable of turning any living room into a private disco alcove, thanks to its vibrant colors and streaming music from Bluetooth-enabled devices. It will be able to juice up power hungry iPhones and iPods when docked, and is also more than capable of sending video content from your device to your TV courtesy of its integrated component video outputs. The asking price for this puppy? $199.99. Too bad it isn’t even listed on the company page just yet.

Global warming? No kidding. This summer has been brutal. With temperatures in the hundreds for the last few days I am willing to try anything to stay cool. Luckily we have air conditioning in the house, but I can’t stay home just because its hot. We have places to go and people to see, whether I want to or not! Maybe it wouldn’t feel so darn miserable if there were a bit of a breeze…

Check out the iPhone Dock Fan from Talme, it simply plugs into the charging port of your iPhone and uses your power supply to keep the breeze blowing. Able to run for up to six hours on a full charge, the iPhone Dock Fan may be just what you need to get through your kids next 4 sessions of sports camp. The fan blades can be adjusted to work in two different directions, depending on how you ‘d like to hold the phone and the blades are made from a soft urethane material that won’t cut your nose off, or any other body parts you’re particularly fond of… very handy.

Although it doesn’t appear that you can actually use the phone to make a call and enjoy the cool breeze while you do so, its still a cute novelty item that could be a plus during whats left of this steamy summer. Designed to work with the iPhone 3G, 3GS, and 4. It also works well with the Apple iPod Touch 1st through 4th generations and for only 9 bucks at amazon.com, it a fun little accessory to have, just don’t get your hair stuck in it!

V Motion Project (video) - People
are getting really creative with the the multi-faceted camera used in
the XBox Kinect – a motion capturing technology that’s meant for video
games. Both artists and techies have been experimenting with it, with
the most interesting project from the folks over at Assembly, a
collective of self-labeled “aesthetic thinkers” who work primarily to
create high-end commercial products and demonstrations. They’ve created
the “V Motion Project” that combines dance, computer programming,
design, music and animation in a really unique, yet interesting, way.

The
V Motion Project uses the Kinect’s many effects in real time, with live
music and animations projected into a futuristic big screen for a
virtual reality explosion of greenness inside of a huge warehouse.
Creating music through motion is at the heart of this creation and uses
the power of the Kinect to capture movement and translate it into music
which is performed live and projected on a huge wall. They created and
designed the live visual spectacle with a music video being produced
from the results. According to their Vimeo page, “the interface plays a
key role in illustrating the idea of the instrument and [they] designed
it to highlight the audio being controlled by the dancer.” Design
elements like real time tracking and samples being drawn on as they are
played all add to authenticity of the performance. The visuals are all
created live and the music video is essentially a real document of the
night.
